GOLFERS OF THE WEEK
MEN’S
Lucas McCubbin, Texas A&M University-Commerce, JR, Midland, Texas, Midland HS
McCubbin was the runner-up at the St. Mary's Rattler Invitational at 2-under par 142 in the 36-hole tournament. He shot
71 (-1) in both rounds. He had three birdies and two bogeys on the back nine in the second round after starting with
nine consecutive pars. He had seven birdies in the tournament. The No. 14 Lions shot 298 in both rounds, finishing third
in the event. They have not finished outside the top four in their five events this season.
CO-WOMEN’S
Casey Wild, Tarleton State University, SR, Wodonga, Australia, Wodonga Senior Secondary College
Wild and Tarleton won the St. Edward's Invitational for their first tournament win of the 2017-18 season. Wild led the
TexAnns with a third-place finish, firing a 147 (+7) overall and had rounds of 73 (+3) and 74 (+4). Wild recorded a team-
best five birdies, including three in the final round. The senior finished second in the field for Par 5 scoring, with a -4 on
Par 5's.
Ueakarn "Loukyee" Songprasert, West Texas A&M University, SO, Chian Mai, Thailand, Strisrinan School
Songprasert paced the No. 18 Lady Buffs to a fourth-place finish at the St. Edward's Invitational with a 36-hole team
score of 611 (305-306). Sonprasert finished tied for third with a 147 score on rounds of 75 and 72. She tied with
Tarleton State's Casey Wild for third in the tournament as the highest finishing athletes from the LSC.

Braxton Sides, West Texas A&M University, finished tied for 15th at the St. Mary's Rattler Invitational with a 149
score on rounds of 75 and 74 in the shortened tournament due to inclement weather. He paced the Buffs to a 36-hole
score of 612 on rounds of 313 and 299 for the team and a 10th place finish.
Pedro De La Vega, Western New Mexico, was right near the top of the leaderboard at the Rattler Invitational after
tying for fifth after rounds of 76 and 70 for a 146. His round of 70 was the best on the team throughout the tournament,
as he helped the Mustangs place fourth out of 16 teams. De La Vega tied with teammate Sam Ruston for the top spot in
par-three scoring (2.88) and tied for the team lead in par-five scoring (4.50). He was also tied for the top mark in the
field in birdies with eight. Last week, he tallied a tie for 20th at the CSU San Marcos Fujikura with rounds of 78-74-73 for
a 225. WNMU as a team placed eighth out of 16 teams.
Brenda Dominguez, Western New Mexico, had a strong tournament at the St. Edward's Invitational as she fired
rounds of 78 and 72 for a 150 to tie for fifth. She led the team in par-four scoring (4.45) and also led the team in both
pars (22) and birdies (3) as WNMU finished 13th out of 16 teams.

Tarleton golf battled the weather in the final round and prevailed to win the St. Edward's Invitation at the Onion Creek
Country Club. The TexAnns held on for a two-stroke victory, their first of the 2017-18 season. The TexAnns had rounds
of 299 and 307 for a final score of 606 (+46) on the Par 70, 5,802-yard course. St. Mary's came in second, carding a 608
(+48). Casey Wild led the TexAnns with a third-place finish, firing a 147 (+7) overall. Wild had rounds of 73 (+3) and 74
(+4). Wild recorded a team-best five birdies, including three in the final round. The senior finished second in the field for
Par 5 scoring, with a -4 on Par 5's. Junie Khaw and Casey Leatherman each tied for eighth with a scorecard of 151 (+11).
Khaw had rounds of 74 and 77 that included 19 pars. Leatherman had a 75 in the first round and 76 in the second and
had 19 pars. Sarah Gee tied for 23rd with a score of 157 (+17) and led the TexAnns with 20 pars and also sank four
3. birdies. Gee had rounds of 77 and 80. Breanna Smith finished tied for 62nd with a 166 (+26) and tied for the
tournament lead with two eagles. The TexAnns will travel to California for the Lancer Shootout in Jurupa Valley on Feb.
