3. RESEARCH
A strength of my research was that I was able to find
enough background information surrounding the artist.
My research helped with my final product as it gave me
more insight. The weakness of my research was that I
wasn’t able to go into as much detail on background
context which would help give more insight into lyrical
meaning.
4. PLANNING
By planning, a strength of this was that it gave me an
idea to follow through with for my concept. The planning
also made my production easier as I was able to schedule
my shooting days, plan shots and be generally prepared.
A weakness of my planning however meant that once I
had filmed the stuff based of planning I had noticed that
there was some lacking in footage which was due to my
planning not being as detailed. What I could have done
better in terms of my planning was go into more detail
and plan more thoroughly, this would have allowed me
to have been more prepared for filming, editing etc.
5. TIME MANAGEMENT
I believe my time management was unbalanced at times.
Through the pre production phase of this project, I did
find myself rushing through finishing the proformas and
having all my planning into 2 weeks. When turning in my
final project being the music video itself I was able to
have it finished on time but for future reference I wish I
had spent more time working on certain aspects of the
video that I wasn’t pleased with in the final result. If I had
more time to produce my work, I would have spent time
going back and touching up certain parts An example of
this is some of the text effects not syncing with the lyrics
so I would go back and change the keyframes to time it
right.
6. TECHNICAL QUALITIES -
CAMERA
In terms of camerawork, mine is similar to the majority of music videos
as I use establishment and scenery shots to be the footage behind the
lyrics.
7. TECHNICAL QUALITIES –
EDITING/POST
A similarity in editing between these two videos
that drew my inspiration was that the lyrics had
the ‘handwritten’ look to the videos. However a
difference between this video and my own is that
the lyrics used in the JB music video are
handwritten by the artist whereas mine is a font
downloaded that has the handwritten style and
look to it.

8. TECHNICAL QUALITIES –
EDITING/POST
Justin Bieber – What Do You Mean, Lyric Video
What is similar between the video I have created
and the JB video is that they both use animation.
This specific animation focuses on where the
animation is similar with the fact that they are
both the outline of a person. The editing
technique used to do this effect is by drawing the
‘animations’ as they are called frame by frame as
if you are drawing a picture. This does take a
long period of time as there is a significant
number of frames in a single clip so animating
the frames can take a while.
9. AESTHETIC QUALITIES
In my personal opinion, I believe
that my work does look good. In
terms of creativity, even though it
is similar to other videos in
comparison, my lyric video idea
was original and by adding my
own style and personal ’aesthetic’
I feels as if I made this piece of
work unique to me.
One thing that I added to my music video to enhance the aesthetic style I
was looking for was adding a light leak overlay on top of footage.
10. AUDIENCE APPEAL
I have appealed to the audience of the band by keeping a simplistic
approach to my video.

15. PEER FEEDBACK SUMMARY

oThat the timings messed up when rendering
oThe font style and choice
oShot choices
What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
oSome people may not have understood why I chose
certain things in the frame
16. PEER FEEDBACK SUMMARY
I would definitely go back and make sure that the timing of my lyric
animations were closer to the exact so when rendering they would be as
close to the singers pace as possible because at different times his pace
and speed would change therefore changing the animation speed. I also
agree that there isn’t as much footage as I wish so I would definitely go
and film more footage for a variety of shot types.
