3. Research
STRENGTHS
• Bettered my understanding of the style of Kim Petras and defined the
boundaries of her ‘brand’
• Gave me ideas on how to approach creating the video from a filming
standpoint (rapid cuts, close-ups of the artist)
• Taught me to abide by what’s feasible, don’t go to levels of production
that would require a whole crew, respect your limits and work with what
you have
WEAKNESSES
• Not much variation in video style for inspiration
• Lack of inspiration that could be used to create very unique and stylish
shots other than rapid cutting and close-ups etc.
4. Planning
STRENGTHS
• Storyboard that reflects most of what was trying to be achieved and
helped visualise what the finished product might look like before filming
to give a better idea of what I’d be working with
• Detailed structural breakdown that allowed me to approach each verse,
bridge and chorus individually and still maintain consistency between
the 3 when brought together.
• Structural breakdown lessened workload as it allowed me to quickly
check up on whereabouts in the video needed more or less clips
WEAKNESSES
• Shot list is not super in-depth (remedied by structural breakdown being
what was relied on mostly for filming when on set)
• Storyboard doesn’t reflect the colour palette used in the final video
5. Time Management
Managing my schedule for this project went incredibly well,
with each segment of the production process being
completed and finalised by the end of each week (even if out
of numerical order) as well as the filming of the actual video
itself going very smoothly with more than enough time to film
and a well dressed and well used set along with an actor that
dressed the part and performed excellently, which really
brought the whole thing together. If given more time I
would’ve considered a larger cast and a few crew and more
equipment that I could’ve then used to make a higher
budgeted version of the work I’ve already produced.
6. Technical Qualities – Camera & Editing
I used a lot of framing ideas that are present in Kim’s official music video for Heart to Break, such as;
the phone, her taking selfies and her performing alone on her bed. These shots helped add to the
style of Kim’s brand and make the video feel more authentic in what she herself would do when
making a video
7. Aesthetic Qualities & Audience Appeal
Aesthetically I really like my video’s
overall look, I think the black and
purple colors are also very on brand
with Kim’s aesthetics as well so it
works with remaining on-brand to
the source material.
I also think the usage of the phone’s brightness to
illuminate some scenes was also a creative way of
using lighting to show more detail in some scenes.
However I do think in retrospect I should’ve used
this a lot more to keep the video a lot more clear
overall.
Audience wise I think this appeals perfectly to my
target audience, especially fans of Kim with the
particular clip used for “Woo-ah” in the later half of
the song as it is a common soundbite used by Kim
that fans have noticed and thus transformed into an
in-joke amongst her and her fans

12. Peer Feedback Summary
• What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
• I agree there should be some changes to the colours in editing, brightening
the scenes up slightly so more detail is visible and that there should be some
more variety with transitions between scenes.
• What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
• Variety in location
13. Peer Feedback Summary
I would change the colors of the music video in post-production
to lighten up a lot more of the video to make details more
visible as they are when the phone lights up a lot of the
actresses face in some scenes already present in the video
