3. RESEARCH
The strengths of my research is that it gave a strong idea
about what the pop/rock genre of music's videos would
look like with mainly live performances and the more
modern ones featuring narrative and interesting visuals.
This helped my product as I was able to conform to to the
standard of music videos of songs from that era more
easily This includes camera work editing and misé en
scene.
4. RESEARCH-WEAKNESSES
One of the largest weaknesses of my research is that I
didn't link or entirely utilize the elements from the
researched videos into my project, I could've improved
on this by using more comparable videos , as none of
them really featured a narrative line, to the idea that I
wanted to create. If I had done this then my product
would have most likely not been changed much.
Another weakness is that my research into the videos
may have gotten formulaic leading to writing similar
content for each video. This probably would’ve had
minimal effect on my video other than maybe less static
camera angles
5. PLANNING
The strengths of my Planning is that it covered a wide
base of everything that I would need in order to complete
the project and how I would go about doing so. The
planning was able to help my project as it streamlined
the process allowing me to focus on the filming and prop
creation.
One of the weaknesses of my planning is that despite
covering a large base I probably could've gone into
greater depth of the planning Which would've lead to a
more efficient production phase which would've given me
greater time on post production.
6. TIME MANAGEMENT
As a whole I would say that my time was well managed
as I was able to create the props and complete filming
before eating into my editing time. The project as a
whole was finished on time with editing being finished
on the expected deadline albeit that if I had more time I
may be able to do , possibly necessary reshoots and add
more footage in general. As well as refining the edits on
the TV transition.
7. TECHNICAL QUALITIES -
CAMERA
Both main
singers with
acoustic
guitars in
centre frame
Wide shot of
band albeit
mine is in
medium long
shot whereas
ELO is in Long
shot
Both use still shots
with no camera
movements
8. TECHNICAL QUALITIES –
EDITING/POST
Heavy amount of
colour correction as
apposed to very little
on ELO
All performers
in ELO are
actually people
whereas in mine
they are cut and
pasted copies
Performers in
mine slowly fade
out where as in
ELO they stay
throughout the
performance
ELO is filmed on a
green screen and
replaced with a
painted background
whereas mine is shot
on a black screen
9. AESTHETIC QUALITIES
I would improve on
the “3D” effect given
to the starmen
characters as it is
maybe a bit too
strong.
One of the
biggest strengths
is the select in
colour elements
as it gives a large
amount of
personality.
I would also
improve on the
lighting in the select
colour segments as
it can lead to the
colour looking
washed out and a
lack of vibrancy.
I would say it is
creative as I
haven’t seen
another music
video like it.
10. AUDIENCE APPEAL
One way this appeals
to the audience is the
use of old styled
props that were used
in the era of the song.
This mainly appeals
to older fans of the
song.
Another way it
appeals to
audience is the
unique ‘select
colour’ elements
which would be
intriguing and
eye catching to
the audience.
This method
would appeal to
both younger
and older
audiences
The video also
appeals to audiences
with the vibrant
colours and effects
seen in the chorus.
This appeals to a
younger more
modern audience
12. FEEDBACK 1
What did you like about the product?
The text at the start of the video was clear and I could easily read it.
The shots within the music video were all in focus and the lighting of the video were also
very good because I could clearly see what was going on.
All the shots were on the beat and the speed of the clips were at a perfect speed in
correlation to the song.
The guitar strums were on point throughout the music video.
The colours were alluring and matched the tone and style of the song. Selective colouring
made the music video as a whole much more aesthetically pleasing.
Lip syncing was on point, which made the music video ten times better because it felt like the
person within it was actually singing the song.
The zooming was carefully and beautifully done.
What improvements could have been made to the product?
There was one shot of a speaker that when on for a little bit too long.
One shot of the TV was a little bit shaky which made the video in that part of the video look
satisfactory.
In the intro the frames were a bit jumpy when the video was zooming out which made look
less smooth then if you used a higher frame rate.
At when there was ten seconds left, in the video, you were strumming the guitar in the video,
when in the song there wasn't a guitar playing at the end of the clip which made it feel less
in sync with the song then if u stopped strumming in the video at the right time in the song.
13. FEEDBACK 2
What did you like about the product?
-All the scene transitions was in time with the song
- I liked how you duplicated yourself into the same scene I thought
that worked really well
- All the lip sync was in time with the song as well and I liked the
effects you added to it.
-The title at the beginning was good and I liked when the video is
black and white and clock and radio are in colour.
What improvements could have been made to the product?
- some of the scenes in the video lasted a long time so maybe cut
some scenes up and some extra scenes in.
-On some scenes it’s a little dark and I can’t really see what’s
going on so you could brighten some of it up a bit.
14. FEEDBACK 3
What did you like about the product
I liked the constructed objects in this video, they make the video
seem cartoony.
I liked transitions in the video, especially where the camera zooms in
on the television screen and then it moves screen.
I really like the style of the piece/ futuristic glasses.
What improvements could have been made to the
product?
You could make the screen, where you duplicated yourself three
times, a little lighter. It is a little hard to see.
15. PEER FEEDBACK SUMMARY
What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
I agree with the comments of saying the radio shot went on for to long
and the rest of the shots in general
Its also good to know people liked the colour effects
What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
I have to disagree with people saying that the chorus segments were
too dark although in the first chorus shot I can see where people are
coming from.
16. PEER FEEDBACK SUMMARY
Via My peer feedback I would edit:
• the chorus segments to be brighter, as some bits agree too
dark (despite my personal view)
• I would Also cut in some extra footage in order to break up
some of the longer shots as they do seem to drag quiet a bit
