The document provides an evaluation of the student's music video production project. It summarizes the strengths and weaknesses of the student's research, planning, time management, technical qualities of the video, aesthetic qualities, audience appeal, and peer feedback. The student's research focused narrowly but helped inform their video concept. Planning allowed preparation but didn't account for issues like equipment availability. Time management was poor and rushing affected quality. The video used a phone camera, had editing effects, and appealed to the target genre audience. Peer feedback noted low quality, suggested more angles and locations, and a stronger ending.
3. RESEARCH
A strength of my research is that I thoroughly researched
a specific band in how their music video's reflect the
music they make and have been consistent with their
branding but still managed to evolve. Research helped
me gain a better idea of what I wanted to do for my video
and made me take into consideration the difficulty of
producing some types of music videos.
A weakness of my research is that I only researched a
small amount of bands, which narrowed my perspective
on music videos. Another weakness is that I wasn't able
to research music videos from the genre I used for my
music video. To improve, I would have tried harder to
find music videos so I could incorporate themes of the
genre into my own video better.
4. PLANNING
A strength of my planning is that it allowed me to
prepare well for production. I was able to know exactly
what I needed to do via creating things like shot lists and
planning the equipment needed.
A weakness of my planning is that I didn’t take into
account the aspect of anything going wrong. For
example, I wasn't able to book a camera to use so I was
delayed with filming and I also had to use a phone
camera. To improve, I would have made sure I had
enough time to book a camera so I could film properly
and in better quality.
5. TIME MANAGEMENT
I did not manage my time well as I found that I would
frequently fall behind. I rushed to complete my music
video. I think that my products would have improved
with additional time as I would have spent more time
filming the video.
6. TECHNICAL QUALITIES -
CAMERA
- Both videos have poor camera quality
Almost exclusively wide
shots
Mostly medium close-
upsFilmed with a phone camera
7. TECHNICAL QUALITIES –
EDITING/POST
In my product I used a red tint in
the video footage. In the existing
product, the video has a slightly
blue tint.
A difference is that I included lyric
subtitles in my video, and the
existing product does not.
8. AESTHETIC QUALITIES
I like the colours in my music
video
I also like the fonts I used for the
titles and lyrics as it fits the
gothic theme of the video.
A strength of my video
is that it is consistent
in the visual themes,
every shot having the
same color palette.
A weakness is that the
poor camera quality
brings down the
aesthetic quality of the
video. To improve this,
9. AUDIENCE APPEAL
My video appeals to my audience as it follows
general goth motifs such as darkness, blood, and
christianity. This appeals to my audience as my
targeted audience is fans of goth music.
11. FEEDBACK 1
What did you like about the product?
•Good use of low angle shots
•Intriguing and grabbing imagery used throughout
•Visuals are cut to the beat in a satisfying way
What improvements could have been made to the product?
•A larger variation in angles and locations
•Video quality sometimes looks low (don’t know if that’s an
exporting issue or something to do with the camera)
12. FEEDBACK 2
What did you like about the product?
The iconography makes it clear of the genre and this
ties in to the font used and the colour scheme. The
shots used demonstrate create a good connection
between the artist and the audience. The location is
suited to the narrative and the editing is good to match
the beat and lyrics to the action. The choreography is
filmed well, in focus and in frame.
What improvements could have been made to the
product?
The font could have been edited manually to make love
look less like lobe. The blood on hands shot could have
been graded in black and white and cut quickly to flash
to create more impact. Snapping the cross of the
necklace or dropping it would have created more of a
finite ending.
13. FEEDBACK 3
What did you like about the product?
What improvements could have been made to the
product?
14. PEER FEEDBACK SUMMARY
What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
I agree with the statement that the camera quality is low. I also agree
with the statement about creating a more finite ending via ripping off
the cross necklace.
What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
I disagree that more locations should have been used, as there
wouldn't be much point due to the dark lighting which makes it hard
to see the backgrounds.
15. PEER FEEDBACK SUMMARY
The changes I would make would be to improve the
camera quality. I would achieve this by filming on a
better camera. The camera I used to film my music video
was a smartphone camera, as I did not have access to a
better one.
Another change I would make would be to add more
location variety, as I filmed in one location only.
