1. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product
and why?
There are many different media institutions today which distribute media products, many of
them distribute a range of different media magazines such as lifestyle, hobbies, etc. The
institutions I will be focusing on is the ones which distribute music as this is the media
product that I have created.
IPC produce all sorts of media magazines one which includes music. IPC distribute NME
which is a very popular music magazine to this day, they started to distribute it in the
1950’s. NME also known as New Musical Express was created by Theodore Ingham. It is a
British music magazine which is weekly. NME is largely associated with rock, alternative and
indie music.
Why IPC would be good for my magazine –
Loyalty- IPC have been producing magazines for years, magazine such as NME have been
distributed by IPC for over 60 years, this shows to me that IPC are a loyal company who get
the job done. If IPC wasn’t loyal or trustworthy massive magazines such as NME wouldn’t
stay with them but however would find another company.
Risk takers- IPC have produced many new magazines, they wouldn’t know if they were going
to become really big and successful so therefore they would be risk taking. As my magazine
is new this would also be a risk take for them. They have made so many magazines which
are new massive, therefore this shows to me that IPC would benefit my magazine as it could
become successful like the rest of the magazines IPC distribute.
Experience- IPC have been around for many years, this shows that they know their job and
how to do it. They also have experience in music magazines, one as big as NME. Therefore, if
my magazine was to be produce by them I would know they know what they’re doing.
