2. 1.What types of magazine and target audiences
has IPC been associated with over the years?
• IPC have been associated with many different types of magazines. They
have been associated with entertainment magazines such as Womens
Weekly, Chat etc. As well as this they have been associated with many
special interest magazines such as Classic Boat and Motor Boats Monthly,
they have been associated with many magazines like this. They bring in a
lot of money because there is not much competition for these special
interest magazines. IPC have also taken advantage of the childrens
magazine market by publishing children magazines such as Mizz. There
target audiences are young girls this is a very different target audience to
the target audience for Classic Boat.
3. Why might IPC be an appropriate publisher
for a new music magazine?
• Ipc would be an appropriate publisher because they have a lot of
experience. They have been around for 150 years, they are the longest
running magazine publisher. They will know how to publish the magazine
so it appeals to the target audience. People are also more likely to buy a
magazine from a well known publisher because they can trust it. This
means that more people will buy the music magazine so there will be
more profit.
4. What sorts of music/types of magazines might they be
likely to publish?
• IPC are already associated with one of the main music magazines on the
market ‘NME’. Therefore IPC would not want to publish another music
magazine similar to ‘NME’. I think IPC would be more likely to publish a
music magazine completely different to ‘NME’. This could be a classical
music magazine as this is a magazine that they are not associated with and
there is space in the market for it. They will get more money from this
because there is not much competition.
5. Why might alternative publishers like Bauer be
appropriate?
• Bauer are not associated with as many magazines as IPC this means that
they will have more time to focus on your music magazine. They will also
not have as much competition as IPC this means that more copies of the
music magazine will be sold.
