Task Four

The magazine publisher in which I have chosen to analyse and research for the
suitability of my magazine would be IPC Media.

The Background of IPC Media:

IPC Media (International Publishing Corporation) was founded in 1958 and its
headquarters are located in London. Additionally, IPC Media is a consumer magazine
and digital publisher in the United Kingdom, with a large portfolio selling over 350
million copies each year. There magazines reach over 70% of UK women and 50% of UK
men.

In the year 1998, IPC Magazines Ltd entered a management buyout which was financed
by Cinven-a British private equity firm that was founded in 1977. In addition, Cinven is
widespread and have offices in London, Paris, Frankfurt, Milan and Hong Kong.
Furthermore, the company was renamed IPC Media and a little down the line in 2001,
sold the company to Time Inc. which is the magazine publishing subsidiary of Time
Warner.

Magazines published by IPC:

IPC covers a wide range of magazines, each consisting of different genres a few
examples would be the following:

Fashion & Beauty…

Music, Television and Entertainment…

       NME
       Uncut

       Soaplife

Task Four

The Target Audience:

IPC Media is bound to target a very wide range of audience due to the variety of
genres such as: fashion, music and entertainment, lifestyle, sports. There website
tells us that the target audience’s mass market is: women, young men and upmarket
men and women. In my opinion, the IPC would have a space in the market for my
magazine being as they don’t really publish many magazines based around the
music genre as well as targeting the age of the younger generation such as 17 to
early 20’s.

Is it suitable?

I think the suitability of IPC Media for the publishingof my magazine is rather high
due to the fact that it’s popular and a well-respected publisher. Furthermore, they
publish a wide variety of magazines but very limited amount on the music genre so
it would fit in perfectly. Additionally, they publish for the NME Magazine which
covers many types of music but mainly mainstream style, which is what I am aiming
towards for my magazine alongside extending it into a mix of music genres, such as
the chart music as well which link together due to mainstream music appearing in
the charts. Furthermore, NME Magazine seems to target a wider audience, whereas
mine would be limited to the younger youth such as 16 to the early 20’s and I’d
make unisex because that as well as the age being something I can relate to, also it
makes a newer and more original magazine that the IPC Media can publish to a
wider audience which will bring in a higher number of consumers. In conclusion,
due to ICP Media being a company of a very high standard and an extremely
successful publishing company, I think I could full-fill the place to make it more
profitable.
