What types of magazine and target audiences has IPC been associated with over the
years?
IPC throughout the years has been associated with
many different magazines, from the 1800’s IPC has
collaborated with magazines such as: Horse &
Hound, Woman’s weekly, Wedding & Home,
Shoot!, NME Etc. They target a variety of people
who are interested in fashion & beauty, home
interest, lifestyle, sport and leisure, TV
entertainment, women's weeklies and young men
& music. In the 1800’s they first started targeting
mainly middle aged men as they launched
magazine like: ‘Yachting World’, and ‘The Railway
Magazine’. Then in the 1900’s they started to
expand their target audience to middle aged
females by publishing ‘Woman’s Own’ and ‘Ideal
Home’. By having such a wide variety of magazines
targeting different audiences it maximises their
profit.
Why might IPC be an appropriate publisher for a new music magazine.
IPC would be an appropriate publisher for a new magazine as throughout the years
they have targeted many different target audiences therefore they evidently know
how to target a particular audience. Also they have a lot of knowledge and experience
on publishing and advertising magazines which a new magazine would need in order
to get well known. IPC would be a reliable publisher as it has been running for many
years and publish lots of different magazines. They have published many successful
magazines such as ‘NME’ therefore they are more likely to make a new magazine just
as successful as they know what sells to the readers and how to do it.
What sorts of genres of music/types of magazines might they be likely to publish?

IPC have been publishing NME magazines for
many years therefore if they were to publish
another music magazine they may target the
same audience as they have experience with
attracting males who are interested in
rock/indie already. However they may publish a
magazine with a different genre to widen there
target audience in order to make more money.
Why might alternative publishers like Bauer be appropriate?
Bauer have published more music magazines than IPC so they will be able to appeal
to a wider variety of music genres. Where as IPC have only ever published rock
magazines, such as NME, and although that magazine is very successful, Bauer have
published magazines such as mojo, Q and Kerrang which is just as popular and
successful. The music magazines Bauer have published are different genres so they
have experience with targeting different audiences therefore they would be able to
publish a new magazine successfully.
