has IPC been associated with over the years?

IPC has been associated with many different genres of magazines throughout the years. I
don’t think there is a predominant genre of magazine that IPC produce however there are
more of sporting and leisure magazines

3. Why might IPC be an appropriate publisher for a
new music magazine?
IPC have various different genres of magazines they are interested in being a
publisher for this is because IPC are interested in niche markets. These
markets will be of specific interest to specific people such as ‘Motor Caravan
Magazine’ will be of interest to someone interested in caravans not someone
who is interested in Aeroplanes.
Therefore IPC will be an appropriate publisher for a new music magazine as
music magazines are generally targeted at a specific target audience- a niche
market- this will mean their aim is to target this music magazine to a specific
target audience due to the genre.
IPC are also a very well established and experienced company therefore they
would be the most appropriate to help launch a new music magazine with the
help of their expertise. They are very successful in publishing magazines
aimed at niche markets with a genre of any type in any aspect therefore they
would know what features in a magazine would be appropriate for the target
audience. They have also published one of the biggest, most successful music
magazines- NME.
IPC would be a reliable publisher as it has been running for many years and is
well established having published many different types of magazines.
4. What sorts of genres of music/types of
magazines might they be likely to publish?
IPC are likely to publish magazines specific to certain
genres to appeal to niche markets.
IPC are likely to publish an indie/rock magazine as they
are well experience in this genre due to publishing NME
for many years. However, due to focusing on indie/rock
with NME they could want to begin publishing other
genres such as pop magazines. Pop magazines are
generally targeted at females, IPC have a lot of
experience at aiming magazines towards the women’s
niche market as they focus a lot on women in their
various music magazines.
5. Why might alternative publishers like Bauer be
appropriate?
Publishers such as Bauer would be appropriate as a
publisher because they have experience with a large range
of target audiences.
Bauer produce more music magazines than IPC do such as
‘Q’ ‘Mojo’ and ‘Kerrang’ therefore their experience in
different target audiences is varied, they will know how to
appeal to the preferred target audience.
Bauer are more likely to aim their magazines at more of a
variety of music magazines such as pop, rock and indie
genres.
Bauer publishes magazines at lower prices than IPC
therefore this may mean more sales as it makes the
magazine more affordable for the target audience.

The sub-genre I would like to produce will be a pop magazine.
The magazine top of the pops links to the genre of magazine I would
like to base my magazine on because it is also a pop magazine.
Top of the pops magazine is a monthly publication published by
Immediate Media Company.
Immediate Media Company have 36 websites, 58 magazines and
over 70 brands.
Over 70 million magazines are sold every year and 22 million people
are reached online per month.
Although Immediate Media Company don’t specialise in music
magazines they may still make a suitable publisher for my final
magazine due to them being experienced in publishing many
magazines per year. This would mean they would know how to
appeal to certain target markets.
