I feel that this image is similar to my
product as my product takes place
in a worn down abandoned
building much like this one. The
overall interior of this image has a
very damp, and eire like tone,
which is one thing I would like to
implement into my own project, as
it is a survival game. The lighting in
this image is also very dim, and the
walls themselves are very colourful
with graffiti, which gives the image
more of a lively look. My project
will have a building much like this
one, with old, decaying walls and
dim lit lighting, as I feel it contrasts
and fits the apocalyptic theme very
well.
The overall blue connotation in this image gives it more of
a deserted tone in my opinion. There are a lot of dark
elements to this picture, with darkness creeping in
around the corners. I like this kind of scenery, and am
going to implement as much as I can of it into my project.
3. Existing Product
This existing product is a video game called H1Z1:
Just Survive.
The game is a multiplayer horror survival game
where players collect recourses, weaponry &
materials to help them survive against zombies,
and other online players. This game has a very
similar style to how I want my project to be, and
also follows a similar gameplay style that I want
to implement into my project.
Aspects of this game which will be featured in
mine consist of weaponry (Finding weapons to
use for protection), collecting materials to survive
such as food and water, and challenging
gameplay, for example, when you die, you have
to start all over again.
H1Z1: Just Survive runs on a simple narrative. The
main goal of the game is to survive, and I would
like my gameās main objective to be the same.
4. Existing Product
Both of these images have an apocalyptic
vibe to them, for one the scenery is very
damaged and broken, which highlights that
something really bad has happened,
perhaps an outbreak of zombies or the
aftermath of a war. Both of these pictures
are form completely different video games,
but look very alike, and also look like they
are similar in gameplay style. Both images
feature characters with guns, that appear to
be hunting or looking for something and the
scenery around them is very broken, and
looks quite dangerous with fire and fallen
buildings.
This is the kind of scenery I want to
implement into my own project, as I feel it
fits the theme perfectly, and can highlight to
an audience what kind of situation they are
in when they play the game.
5. Research Analysis
ā¢ What common features do the researched
products have?
ā¢ They all consist of a similar pattern, which is a broken environment,
e.g. abandoned cities / buildings and the feel of human extinction,
as the images show little to no humans, and the ones that consist of
humans, are portrayed as if they are fighting for their lives or trying
to survive in their environment / location.
ā¢ What aspects of the research will you include
within your on work?
ā¢ I will definitely be including the production design aspect. I love the
abandoned and broken theme, and I think it will fit well with the
type of game I am making. I will also be going with the zombies
theme, and the gameplay style where players have to fight for
survival.
