3. RESEARCH
• For research I looked at other products similar to what I’m
doing and examined what they look like such as the colours
and fonts that are used. This helped me think about what the
game will look like. It gave me ideas for the font I used which
was Mesquite STD, I chose this because I think the font had a
certain old fashion/haunted style to it that fitted the
tone/theme of the game. Research also helped me think in a
lot of detail about what the target audience is going to
be(18+ for blood and violence) as well as make an audience
profile.
• But doing all this can take time and effort which could be
spent doing the actual product and it can be hard to find the
other products.
4. PLANNING
• For planning I did mind maps to suggest what I was going
make the game about as well as a mood board, a style sheet
to suggest what colours the game will look like and an app
logo for a front cover of the game. These really helped me
with these parts of the game. E.g. I used the colours green
and red from my style sheet and I made an app logo similar
to the one I had made for practice. So they had helped give
me ideas for those parts of the game.
• Planning can take time to do and can the ideas can be hard
to come up with whilst you could be doing the actual
product. I could have used more of the colours on my mood
board, this probably would have made my product look
more colourful.
5. TIME MANAGEMENT
• I did manage my time well, I met all the deadlines
which was part of my plan. The animating took
longer than I thought it would and became pretty
tricky, whilst the writing took less time than I
expected. I completed most of my work on time. If I
had more time I would go back to my game and I
would fix some of the graphics because they seem
to be mixed up and copied into different places, I
would also go back and make the game more
colourful.
6. TECHNICAL QUALITIES
Similarities:
• Both have green ugly
looking zombies.
• Both involve killing
zombies
• Both are violent
Differences:
• One is pixelated
• The zombies in one are natural
whilst the in the other they
have been created by nazis
7. AESTHETIC QUALITIES
It has an interesting concept and backstory and the
violence is creative. But I don’t think there was enough
blood in the game, and the visuals seemed a bit blurry
and out of focus. The background colours weren’t very
interesting either, they seemed too dull and ugly. There
were also some flaws on the main character and there
were some mistakes with the direction of the bullets and
sometimes the zombies movements. Sometimes the
zombie would take a step back for a second instead of
walking forward.
8. AUDIENCE APPEAL
I believe I have appealed to my target audience by
using the right amount of creativity in the kills of the
game by having the head separate from the body at the
jaw. But I think I disappointed a bit with the blood but
they might like the detail in the bloodless decapitation.
10. FEEDBACK 1:MATTHEW
• What did you like about the product?
• The sound effects and the theme soundtrack, work well with
the theme of the game.
• The character design are good and in detail.
• What improvements could have been made to the product?
• I would change the points at the top at the game, because
its stay the same.
• I would also get rid of the random bullets, for example the
bullet random at the top of game. 3.5/5
11. FEEDBACK 2: DANNY
What did you like about the product?
• The fonts that are used are fitting for the theme.
• The concept of the game is good.
• The music fits the theme and is very intense
• What improvements could have been made to the product?
• The quality is not very good. The main character isn’t very detailed
and the zombies look the same. The background is very boring
and the colours are all too similar. The main colour is green
however everything is green so nothing stands out. The resolution
is too low. Animation isn’t good e.g. the bullets coming the gun. If
I was to make the game I would change the resolution and make
the characters stand out more. I would also change the animation,
the bullets would fly without any lag. 3/10
12. FEEDBACK 3: SJ
• What did you like about the product?
• I thought the music for the game added to the tense atmosphere already
created by the infestation of zombies.
• What improvements could have been made to the product?
• However in comparison to everything else, this game is utterly unfinished,
the animation is clunky and mechanical, the visuals and resolution are
quite awful and physically hurt my eyes due to it’s blurriness. The colour
scheme is bland and dull, nothing really pops and grabs your attention
straight off the bat, everything seems to blend into itself adding to the
disorientating visuals which drains any single drop of enjoyment watching
this 30+ second animation. The character design is very basic and boxy, it
looks like an extremely low resolution version of Minecraft, which is an
insult to Minecraft and its creators. Using only two zombies which are
completely identical just shows an air of laziness and or lack of skill, as to
even change a few features would show some willingness and creativity.
Even some basic issues which could be easily fixed have been left
untouched, such as the points tally in the top right hand corner which
stays on a hundred even though after you kill the second zombie is meant
to wind up to 200 points, an easily fixed problem which just hasn’t.
13. PEER FEEDBACK SUMMARY
• What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
• Everything. But I was planning to get bad reviews the whole
time as it was part of my artistic vision to learn from my
mistakes and understand what people wood want so I can
improve. I intended to make its awfulness somewhat comedic
but I failed. But it gave me something to write about in my
peer feedback summary.
• What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
• I think the feedback is fair and reasonable.
14. PEER FEEDBACK SUMMARY
I am starting to regret making the game I have made and I
wish I could have done something more colourful and creative
rather than have my game be inspired by a movie. If I could
do it again I would have it be more inspired by the classic
Mario games and give it some more colour.
