2. Initial Reaction
• Overall, after completing the production experiments, I feel more confident regarding
the brief for the final video game project.
• After these experiments, I believe that I would like to create a game centred
around/containing Goth like imagery as I enjoyed creating and animating these types of
assets for my experiments.
• Due to my choice of animating object rather than characters, I could try and create an
almost stationary game, such as a card game or a different type of matching game
• I also could try making a turn based RPG, but use a similar style to games like Undertale,
which do seem to incorporate a spooky, Goth like style in terms of background,
character design etc.
• I also think that throughout my game, I could incorporate other types of animation such
as slight background movement during main gameplay.
• I could also try and create a game that includes some sort of jump scare, an example
being a player finishes a task, the screen fades back to the area they are in, and there
will be an apparition of some sort behind the player, before a light flickers and they are
gone.
6. Mood Board Analysis
Is there any repetition in the images you have collected?
Repeated colours/images styles/fonts/tone/mood
• The pixel art image has been repeated so to create a connection to the art style I will be
using. The goth and horror genre has also been repeated through characters and locations,
such as the staircase image, the main character images and backgrounds such as the sealed
off doorway and the writing on the wall. The puzzles are also a recurring theme and may end
up representing what the puzzles in my final game will actually look like and play as. The
colour scheme may also be considered recurring as colours such as purple, red and black
appear throughout. I have also tried to repeat a type of environment I want to convey, even
though the game will take place in a mansion setting, alterations could be going on
throughout the environment, such as the walls bleeding or writing appearing etc.
How will your mood board influence your final product?
My mood board will mainly influence the gothic/horror style of he game I want to capture, how
the character(s) and environment will look in relation to this theme and also part of the main
gameplay, as I have intended for the main character to be able to explore the mansion (to an
extent) and be able to interact with and solve puzzles that allow them to progress through the
game. It may also influence the type of puzzle(s) I create, such as match 3's, tile puzzles etc.
