3. Research
• What were the strengths of your research?
• The Strength of my Existing Products research was that it allowed me to look at existing podcasts in the industry
which I could look at and take inspiration from them on what I would wish to do in my final product
• The strengths of my Research analysis was that it allowed me to see what aspects I liked out of my research and I
decided which ones I would plan to put into my final product
• The strengths of my Audience profile Research it helped me find what audience would most likely be interested in
my product and how we could direct it towards them more
• How did your research help your product?
– My researched helped me come up with ideas on what the final product could be and those ideas would be moved to planning where I can decide which
ones I want to keep and which ones wouldn’t work in my product
• What were the weaknesses of your research?
• The weaknesses of my Existing Products research were that 2 of the existing products are not well known
podcasts and one had a lot of floors in its production such as no sound editing. Taking inspirations from
unprofessional products could be a bad idea and might make the product uninteresting because it takes on some
of the floors of its bad design. There is also a risk of making the product to similar to an existing one which would
mean the audience that would be interested in the product would already be interested in the existing product
available
• The weaknesses of my Research analysis was that some of the good ideas wouldn’t reach the final product and I
could also miss some good ideas which I found in my research that could improve the product greatly
• The weaknesses of my Audience profile research was that it was a huge risk of not choosing an audience that
would be interested in the product, or interested in an already existing similar product
• What could you have done better/improve? What effect would this have had on your
product?
• I would improve my research by choosing very different professional and successful existing products which I
would take a inspiration from.
• I would also make surveys for my target audience so I know that I would have the right audience
• I would also make a survey to make sure I have chosen the right ideas for my final product and what the audience
things I should include
4. Planning
• What were the strengths of your planning?
• The strength of the Formal Proposal was that it allowed me to set up an idea which I can follow all the way to the final
product.
• The strengths of my Sound effects and music planning allowed me to plan out what sounds I might need and how and where I
will get it or create it.
• The strengths of my Software and resources planning help me figure out what I will need during the production.
• The strengths of my Contingency Planning is that it helps me work out what problems I might run into during my production
and helps me work around them before or if they happen
• The strengths of my Schedule are that it helps me plan how long each part of the production will take and when it will/should
be finished.
• How did your planning help your product?
• Planning my product helped me create an idea of what I wanted my final product to be and how I would get to that point. It
also helps me come up with solutions and problems which may come up in production; such as health and safety issues. The
planning also figures out what software and material I will need to finish the final product and how I will get it and how I will
use it.
• What were the weaknesses of your planning?
• The weaknesses of my Formal Proposal was that its difficult to change the direction of the project now its down a set path. I
had this problem during my Production where I was stuck with too much time in the audio but couldn’t only feature one
subject because of my proposal, but I also couldn’t make it longer than 3 minutes
• The weaknesses of my Sound effects and music planning is that I don’t know what music or sound effects I will need in the
end until I have finished recording but at least I have some kind of idea about what I could use
• The weaknesses of my Software and resources planning was that if I forget a crucial software it could disrupt my production
schedule as I might not have that software at home or at college.
• The weaknesses of my Health and Safety planning is that I might not come up with a solution for a problem I haven’t thought
of. If a employee was hurt during production they could sue
• The weaknesses of my Schedule was that I might not accurately predict how long it will take for something in the product to
do or finish. This could lead to a lot of problems and setbacks if its not predicted right
• What could you have done better/improve? What effect would this have had on your product?
• That I make sure that I checked my experiment to see what software I used in its production and make sure all those software
were included in my planning
5. Time Management
• Did you manage your time well?
– I did, but I completed the project too quickly actually; though I handed it in on time. I still think
there were some improvements to be made to the product. I reached all my scheduled work
before the times it was needed so I was able to make some improvements where I didn’t plan to
make them before; but a lot of time was also put into shaving down over 20 minutes of audio to
5 minutes while sticking to the brief and the Formal Proposal I had made for myself
• Did you complete your project on time or would your products have improved
with additional time?
– I did complete my project on time. A little earlier than I would have expected but if I had longer
to improve my work I would have taken it because obviously there will always be ways to
improve the production but even though I didn’t have that time I feel it worked well
• What would you have done if you had more time to produce your work?
– I would have tried to make the sound gate more effective so non of the background sound could
be heard. Unfortunatly I didn’t make it effective enough but Ill try to next time.
– If I had additional time I would have also tried to write the script more effectively because I felt
like the script was useless other than talking points but I did try to stick to the script where I
could.
– I would have also re recorded some freestyle lines which I stuttered during my first recording
and hopefully this would have improved my product with recording clearer lines.
– I would have also rehearsed lines so there was little stuttering, and so that I wouldn’t ramble on
for 20 minutes
6. Technical Qualities
• Differences
– two people talking where on theirs but mine only has me talking. I
think it works when it’s two people talking because it doesn’t get
boring as easily
– Mines more random where as JRE is more about politics, Specifically
the politics of sargon who is a Centrist. Mine is more random talking
about star wars and things that have happened to me recently.
– JRE offers a visual version with camera footage where mine is
completely audio. Offering a visual version is also good too because
people can watch it on youtube and see who is talking rather than
just an option of an audio version which doesn’t work on Platform like
youtube
– Mine goes on for 5min where JRE goes on for almost 4 hour. As I
learned 5min isnt reallly much time to get indepth in anything, but
the nearly 4 hour podcast has a chance for them to talk about almost
anything
– The JRE podcast has a logo mine doesn’t. a logo is good when trying
to advertise your podcast. Since my podcast doesn’t have a logo its
harder to advertise
– My podcast has an intro where theirs doesn’t. JRE just starts in the
middle of a conversation as its live. Live streaming is a bonus because
people get to see the podcast live and ask questions. But pre
recording is also good because it allows you to edit it as much as you
like.
– Theirs is live and mine is prerecorded which gives me the advantage
of adding effects to the audio after it has been recorded where as live
cannot apply these effects after it has already been streamed to the
audience. Also lots of things can go wrong when streaming live so it
can be quite hard to do
– In the JRE they swear quite a lot where mine has barley any swearing.
This really isn't a advantage or disadvantage as its just how they talk
to each other and swearing doesn’t really mean much to them where
as to someone else it could mean a lot more
– Theirs has better mic’s which have better quality and no background
sound where mine isn't as good. Those high quality mics are a huge
advantage because it makes the sound a lot more clearer.
– Theirs is set up more like an interview, where Joe often asks sargon
(Carl) questions throughout where mine is set out more like a
conversation. This is neither an advantage or disadvantage as its just
how they prefer to run their podcast
• Similarities
– Both talking about recent events that
have happened. Mine talks about
trumps recent blaming of video games
and the recent final episode of star
wars rebels. Where they talk about
the shadow bannings on twitter and
Vidcon. Talking about recent events
works very well because it keeps
thewatch audience coming back to
– Both are very informal conversations,
its very relaxed and layed back which
seems to work well. This works well as
it works to make the audience feel
layed back and relaxed too
– Both offer a audio version of the
podcast so people can listen to it
anywhere. Listening to it anywhere is
a huge advantage as it doesn’t restrict
when you can listen.
– Both are Podcasts, podcast are one of
the most common forms of audio
products beside music. They are very
good online and often do well with
their audience
My product and https://youtu.be/xrBCsLsSD2E 0:00-11:00
7. Aural Qualities
• Does your work sound good?
– My work sounds clear, the audio effects help make my voice clearer but unfortunately I was unable to fix
the sound gate so some of the sound from my PC’s fan still got in the audio
• Was it creative?
– Yes, I had to come up with solutions for my problems and im creating something new and different
• What aspects of your product’s audio do you like?
– I liked the tune I did for the intro. It was also very fun to do when I was messing around with it in garage
band
• What would you improve?
– If I could I would have improved the audio further with no background sound as that seems to be what is
holding it back
• How would you improve it?
– I would remove the background noise by improving the sound gate effect I did in audition
Strengths:
• Custom made Intro Music, this works well because its
made by me and its unique to the intro. It also means it
cant be copyright claimed because I made it myself.
• Effects been added to the sound to make it play better,
S’s and T’s which are the harder to hear sounds can now
be heard thanks to these effects I added. They also
helped make it sound more professional
• Unexpected alex jones improve it as it is random and
makes it more funnier
• Fits the specifications perfectly, as I made it exactly 5
minutes long and is in the correct format asked for
weaknesses:
• The background noise is very easy to hear and isnt
removed enough from the audio. This could be fixed by
improving the noise gate
• Still has some stuttering from me talking because I didn’t
have a chance to re record lines and some stutters
coudnt be edited out. But it could have easily be fixed
with re recording these lines
8. Audience Appeal
• How have you appealed to your target audience?
• I made my podcast appeal to my target audience by talking about recent events and
things I have seen recently. My target audience is 14-25, Male and female Belongers in
middle class
• What specific bits of content would appeal to your target audience.
• It appeals to my audience when I talk about star wars because they are in the age
range and in the belongers.
• It appeals of my audience when I talk about recent events like trump blaming video
games. It appeals to my audience because its talking about recent events in which
appeals people ages 14-25, male and female, belongers
• my intro appeals to my audience because its funny and livens up the podcast because
it appeals to belongers
I could have made it appeal to my target audience more by
• Including subjects which appeal more to the middle class
• Improving it to make it funnier which would appeal to ages 14-25 more
• Maybe I could have made it appeal to women more by talking about subjects
more women would be interested in.
• I could have made it appeal to belongers more by including recent events
which relate to them
10. Feedback 1
• What did you like about the product?
– I like the intro but alex jones is a bit much
– I think the audio is good but it could use
improvements
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
– Improve the audio by removing background sound
– Maybe have more than one person in the audio, a
friend or someone
11. Feedback 2
• What did you like about the product?
– I love the intro and alex jones was very funny
– Sound was very clear and could understand most
of what was being said
– Intro was very creative, though short
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
– It got very boring towards the end. Maybe shorten
it down or maybe try to make it more interesting
– Try to add more sound effects
12. Feedback 3
• What did you like about the product?
– I like that it talks about different topics
– I like it when it talks about star wars
– It should be shorter with sound effects
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
– Improve the intro by removing alex jones and making
it longer with more in it
– Improve the noise gate to get rid of background noise
– The personal stories are pretty uninteresting and need
more interesting stuff added into it
13. Peer Feedback Summary
• What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
– It does seem to become very uninteresting towards the
end of the podcast
– I also liked the “REE” intro
– I agree that maybe I should have added more sound
effects to it
– I agree that I should have improved the sound gate so I
could remove the background sound
• What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
– I disagree on removing the alex jones I think it works
better than what I had originally planned, but I think its
worth listening to the others when they say it’s a bit dumb
14. Peer Feedback Summary
Changes I would make
• I would improve the sound gate. I would do this because the background sound is very noticeable
in the audio, I could also improve this by trying to muffle the sound as it mainly came from my
computer which I was recording and editing on at the time.
• I should make the stories and what I talk about more interesting because in my feedback lots
noticed that it got a little boring listening to me for 5 minutes. I could improve this by trying to liven
up my voice and the stories to make them seem more appealing
• I would improve by adding more sound effects. I would do this because it would make my stories
more interesting. as i have mentioned before in my feedback people said they didn’t like how
boring they were so I would have added sound effects to attempt to liven it up
• I would remove alex jones from the intro. I would do this because alex jones was never meant to be
in the intro but when I accidently mixed up the files I got him so I decided to stick with it because it
sounded funny, but multiple people mentioned in my feedback saying they didn’t like it. So If I
would have gone back and removed it and replaced it with the clip I originally intended to use
• I would also have someone else recording with me so I could have a conversation with them about
the topics and talking points I listed in my script. I would do this because in my feedback it was
mentioned that it seemed boring only listening it me, and recommended that I record talking with
someone else as I recorded. Kylee would seems to be the best choice as she has knowledge of what
im talking about and we skype regularly so it would have been very easy to do. This would like back
to my other feedback where they said it got very boring towards the end. I would do this by maybe
skypeing with someone like my girlfriend having them record the audio too and them sending it to
me where from there I can edit it in the audio and shorten it down to the time specified
