THEORY- AUDIENCE
James Horner-Borrett
AUDIENCE PROFILE• Primary Audience
This films primary audience is teenagers
from the age of 15-24. This film is aimed
toward males as the film has a masculine
main character and the film itself is an
action film which caters more toward a
teenage boy than perhaps any other age
group or gender. Another reason this may
appeal to a younger fan base is because it
is set in a fictional world and provides that
sense of escape for the viewer.
• Secondary Audience
The films secondary audience for this film
is adult males from the ages of 25-44, this
is because the film has a slightly dark
setting and also has references and jokes
which an adult will pick up whilst watching
the film which children may not
AUDIENCE PROFILE
• Primary Audience
The primary audience for this films is
adults from the age of 25-44, this is
because the story of the film is serious
and is quite sad, it is also set during world
war 2 which would perhaps attract a male
audience rather than a female one
• Secondary Audience
The secondary audience for this film is
teenage boys from the age of 15-24, this
is because the war setting of the film may
attract a younger audience who are
attracted to violence and action.
AUDIENCE PROFILE• Primary Audience
The primary audience for IT is adults of
both genders from the age of 25-44.
This is because the film is a horror film
which creates a sense of tension and
fear to the viewer whilst they are
watching the film which children or
elderly people may not like or be able
to sit through
• Secondary Audience
The secondary audience for this film is
teenagers, this is because they will be
attracted to the fact that it is a horror
film.
HYPODERMIC NEEDLE
• Definition – This a theory from the 1940s and 50s that
suggested that media had a immediate and direct impact on
its audience
• Example – In WW2 the Germans used their film media in
order to display their power in the world in order to unify the
people during the war. The Americans did the same thing
but instead used film to show how bad the Germans were to
their own people
USES AND GRATIFICATIONS
INFORMATION
• When I want to find out any new information/news I use the
internet to go onto sky news’s website, however I also use social
media platforms such as twitter as news outlets often release
stories on their social media to reach more people. I use these
outlets to gain information and access news because they are
easily accessed and updated as soon as something happens in the
world
USES AND GRATIFICATIONS
PERSONAL IDENTITY
I reinforce my personal beliefs and values in media in a number of
ways, one way is that I follow certain celebrities on social media and
through news outlets who also share the same beliefs as me and
express the same views on certain topics as I do.
USES AND GRATIFICATIONS
INTEGRATION AND SOCIAL
INTERACTION
I can find a sense of belonging through interaction and social
media as I can follow pages and people which I like and
potentially connect with others who share similar interests and
people who I may feel comfortable with as we have common
interests
USES AND GRATIFICATIONS
ENTERTAINMENT
I use media as an escapism in many ways, one way is that tv shows
or movies set in either a fictional setting or in alternate present day
can provide an escape from the real world for many people including
myself, another way media can do this is with games as they are
more interactive than tv and cinema.
CONSUMER GENERATED
CONTENT• Example
YouTube
• What are the advantages to media producers?
An advantage to the media producers at YouTube is that content is
always being uploaded by its users and which brings in
advertisement revenue
• Why would the audience generate content?
The audience generates content for many reasons one being they
can earn advertisement revenue from videos they uploads. Also
YouTube gives them a platform to promote themselves and
potentially make a name for them selves on social media and other
media platforms
