This is a cover for four four two magazine which is a football magazine which is released
weekly. The magazine colour has lots of vibrant colours included in its background, on the
lettering and also on some graphic designs that have been included onto the image. The
lettering on this cover is bright and bold with many of the lettering being bright yellow, this
has been done so that the topic of the magazine is clear and also so it catches the eye of
any potential buyer making them more likely to buy it. The main focus of this addition of
the magazine focuses on a footballer called Mohamed Salah, he is the main focus of the
cover with an image of him taking up a large proportion of the screen. Doing this attracts
fans of both the man himself and also fans of the club and country he plays for. There are
also smaller photos of other players on the cover in order to make the cover itself more
attractive on the eye and therefore makes someone looking at the more likely to buy it.
Existing Product
This is a double page spread which is what I will also be doing for this project. This double
page spread includes a large photo of what the article is about, which in this case is Real
Madrid. The photo takes up the majority of the page and the actual article works around it.
This helps to make the page easier on the eye which may make its audience buy the product
itself. My product will be similar to this as I will have a photo on my own on my double page
spread.
Existing Product
This is a piece of merchandise from Liverpool F.C. This t shirt is white in colour with the
design on it being red, this is because red is the official colour of the club which is likely
why they have chosen red. The design is the clubs logo as the focus with the clubs moto
and accomplishments being lower down on the t shirt. Having the clubs official product
on their merchandise makes the audience which is fans of the more likely to buy it. My t
shirt however will be black and will include an image connected to Liverpool fc that I have
taken myself, which includes the clubs moto. I will include this image to make my
audience which is Liverpool fans want to buy my product.
Existing Product
This is a magazine cover of ‘MATCH’ magazine from 1989. The cover focuses on a Football
player who used to play for Liverpool fc. The cover itself uses the image of the player
because the magazine itself is centered around Liverpool. The red kit stands out on the
page as well as the title of the magazine written across the top of the page which makes
it clear what the magazine is called. The page also includes smaller pieces of writing also
in bold and white of colour, like the title, telling the reader what content is inside.
Research Analysis
• What common features do the researched products have?
– A common feature of my research is that all the products researched were
football related. This is to help me for my own product which is also football
related. Another common feature is that the magazine covers both had a
similar layout with the title being written in bold across the top of the page, an
image of a specific player taking up most of the cover and also other pieces of
bold text to show what’s inside of the magazine
• What aspects of the research will you include within your on
work?
– An aspect of my research I will take into my own project is the lay out of the
magazine covers with the name at the top with various images being the focus
of it and also titles which show the content of the magazine

Interviews
Interview 1
• What do you focus on when reading a magazine the photos or the
articles? Please explain your choice.
I focus on the photos mainly because there more eye catching.
• How can I make a football magazine appeal to a wider audience? Make
the magazine about football as a universal topic.
• If you rarely read magazines what would make you want to read one?
If it was about the premier league.
• Would you prefer a magazines that focuses more on the photography
aspect rather than in depth articles and interviews? No
• For the photography would you prefer photos of the players, stadiums or
the fans? Please explain your choice. I would prefer to see photo of
players because they are more of a representation.
Interview 1
• Observation: From this interview I can see that the
person I interviewed prefers the photos in magazines rather
than the articles themselves. He also says he prefers photos of
football players over photos of stadiums or fans
• What this says about my audience: It tells me that
my audience favour photos over articles when reading
magazines
• How will your product appeal to this
audience: My product will appeal to my audience as I will
be including photos of football players on my magazine cover
and also on my double paged spread
Interview 2• What do you focus on when reading a magazine the photos or the articles? Please
explain your choice: I prefer reading the articles themselves, it gives me facts and
information you can’t find by just looking at some pictures. Furthermore that’s the main
thing I focus in on, when skimming over the front cover, to see what interesting facts I
can find inside.
• How can I make a football magazine appeal to a wider audience?: Include facts and
statistics of particular players that everyone will likely enjoy, especially those who enjoy
playing games like fifa and pes (which appeal to younger and older audiences alike), as
these games mainly orientate around the players themselves and their unique traits.
• If you rarely read magazines what would make you want to read one?: Transfer “gossip”
is something which heavily intrigues me, as it happens to be one of the most exiting
parts of football; whether or not you may see a world class player transferring to a new
club, is a huge aspect of football.
• Would you prefer a magazines that focuses more on the photography aspect rather
than in depth articles and interviews: Personally in depth articles intrigue me over the
photos themselves as they are the main source of information, however there is
something enticing about a high quality photo during a heated game of football.
• For the photography would you prefer photos of the players, stadiums or the fans.
Please explain your choice: The players are what sell the magazine, as they are the main
talking point when discussing football, as they can have a huge impact on whether
certain football clubs can achieve success.
Interview 2
• Observation: From this interview I can see that the person I
interviewed clearly prefers articles in magazines rather than photos.
He makes it clear that he likes when articles are in depth and full of
information that he can take and use himself in the future.
• What this says about my audience: This tells me that
my audience read magazines for the information inside of them and
not just for the photos.
• How will your product appeal to this audience:My
product will appeal to my audience as my double paged spread will
include an in depth article talking about Liverpool football clubs
semi final triumph over Barcelona.

Research Evaluation
Research Evaluation
– Product Research – For my product research I looked at two different football
magazine covers (one from 1989 and one from the present day), A double paged
layout from another football magazine and also some merchandise from Liverpool
football club. I looked at each product and identified their strengths and
weaknesses so I can implement or exclude them from my own product.
– Questionnaires – I asked my audience questions about magazines asking questions
about both photography and the articles that are in magazines. I also asked
questions about sports merchandise in order to see what my audience looks for
when buying merchandise from sports teams. I did this to see what my audience
want included in my products in order to make it appeal to them more
– Interviews – For my interviews I interviewed two people asking them questions
based around sports magazines. I asked questions about the photography aspect in
football magazine and what that person likes to see in a football magazine. From
these interviews I was able to gain qualitive data which will help me when
producing my products as I know specifically what some people want.
Research Evaluation
– What sort of a response did you get? – I got a good response from my survey.
The results of my survey have helped me identify what my audiences
preferences are when it comes to magazines, sports merchandise and
photography. I will implement these results from my survey into my final
products in order to make them appeal to my audience even more.
– How did you distribute your survey? Give an advantage and a disadvantage – I
distributed the survey via survey monkey and email, an advantage of doing
this is that it is easy to distribute the survey amongst your audience. A
disadvantage however is that I had to pick who to email my survey too
individually which can take time depending in how many people are sent the
survey.

Similar to Here are the key points from the interview:- The interviewee focuses on both photos and articles when reading magazines. - To appeal to a wider audience, the magazine should include content beyond just football - like lifestyle stories and fashion.- In-depth profiles of players and behind-the-scenes access would make them more interested in reading a football magazine. - They prefer a balance of photos and articles, rather than a magazine focused mainly on photography.- For photos, they like seeing action shots of players on the pitch, as well as photos showing the passion of fans. This tells me my audience wants a good mix of visual and written content. They don't just want match reports

Here are the key points from the interview:- The interviewee focuses on both photos and articles when reading magazines.

  • 2. Existing Product This is a cover for four four two magazine which is a football magazine which is released weekly. The magazine colour has lots of vibrant colours included in its background, on the lettering and also on some graphic designs that have been included onto the image. The lettering on this cover is bright and bold with many of the lettering being bright yellow, this has been done so that the topic of the magazine is clear and also so it catches the eye of any potential buyer making them more likely to buy it. The main focus of this addition of the magazine focuses on a footballer called Mohamed Salah, he is the main focus of the cover with an image of him taking up a large proportion of the screen. Doing this attracts fans of both the man himself and also fans of the club and country he plays for. There are also smaller photos of other players on the cover in order to make the cover itself more attractive on the eye and therefore makes someone looking at the more likely to buy it.
  • 3. Existing Product This is a double page spread which is what I will also be doing for this project. This double page spread includes a large photo of what the article is about, which in this case is Real Madrid. The photo takes up the majority of the page and the actual article works around it. This helps to make the page easier on the eye which may make its audience buy the product itself. My product will be similar to this as I will have a photo on my own on my double page spread.
  • 4. Existing Product This is a piece of merchandise from Liverpool F.C. This t shirt is white in colour with the design on it being red, this is because red is the official colour of the club which is likely why they have chosen red. The design is the clubs logo as the focus with the clubs moto and accomplishments being lower down on the t shirt. Having the clubs official product on their merchandise makes the audience which is fans of the more likely to buy it. My t shirt however will be black and will include an image connected to Liverpool fc that I have taken myself, which includes the clubs moto. I will include this image to make my audience which is Liverpool fans want to buy my product.
  • 5. Existing Product This is a magazine cover of ‘MATCH’ magazine from 1989. The cover focuses on a Football player who used to play for Liverpool fc. The cover itself uses the image of the player because the magazine itself is centered around Liverpool. The red kit stands out on the page as well as the title of the magazine written across the top of the page which makes it clear what the magazine is called. The page also includes smaller pieces of writing also in bold and white of colour, like the title, telling the reader what content is inside.

  • 25. Research Evaluation – Product Research – For my product research I looked at two different football magazine covers (one from 1989 and one from the present day), A double paged layout from another football magazine and also some merchandise from Liverpool football club. I looked at each product and identified their strengths and weaknesses so I can implement or exclude them from my own product. – Questionnaires – I asked my audience questions about magazines asking questions about both photography and the articles that are in magazines. I also asked questions about sports merchandise in order to see what my audience looks for when buying merchandise from sports teams. I did this to see what my audience want included in my products in order to make it appeal to them more – Interviews – For my interviews I interviewed two people asking them questions based around sports magazines. I asked questions about the photography aspect in football magazine and what that person likes to see in a football magazine. From these interviews I was able to gain qualitive data which will help me when producing my products as I know specifically what some people want.
  • 26. Research Evaluation – What sort of a response did you get? – I got a good response from my survey. The results of my survey have helped me identify what my audiences preferences are when it comes to magazines, sports merchandise and photography. I will implement these results from my survey into my final products in order to make them appeal to my audience even more. – How did you distribute your survey? Give an advantage and a disadvantage – I distributed the survey via survey monkey and email, an advantage of doing this is that it is easy to distribute the survey amongst your audience. A disadvantage however is that I had to pick who to email my survey too individually which can take time depending in how many people are sent the survey.
