FourFourTwo:
FourFourTwo is a football based magazine. The colour scheme is rather bright and it makes everything on the cover noticeable,
as the blobs and stars that are on the front cover stand out as well as the main story, this means everything is seen and someone
who may be more interested in another type of story will still be interested in the magazine, in the inside of the magazine the
colour scheme is relevant to the person the article is about, the blue is used as the player plays for Chelsea, who’s main colour is
blue. The photography uses a celebrity as the main focus, the picture
has been set-up and taken in a studio, the other photos that are used
on the cover are taken from other places, such as an in game photo for
one of the side subjects, this is the same for the inside of the magazine.
The writing style and language used appeals to the target audience,
as it uses footballing language and structures to draw an audience in,
for example “The Greatest Premier League Striker Ever” will draw in
an audience that supports and watches the Premier League, as well
as using a lot of exclamation mark throughout the magazine to try
and show importance, as well as this on the inside of the magazine there
isn’t a lot of text and more focus on the image, making it seem as if the target
audience is younger football fans. The website they have for FourFourTwo
is very similar to the magazine, as it produces news articles similar to what is
in the magazine, it’s like an interactive version of the magazine.
Matchday:
Matchday magazine is trying to appeal to a target audience that is more
interested in the tactical and informational side of football rather than
just watching the game and hearing certain player stories, they appeal to
more of an older fan base. The colour scheme used in this magazine is
rather simple, this appeals to the more serious target audience of this
magazine. The photography used on the cover features a big star in
football, probably the most well known current football player, in a shot
that has been set-up and taken in a studio, they have used Cristiano
Ronaldo here as he is the most known person that has a story featured in
the magazine, and therefore he will draw more attention and people to
the magazine, the photography on the double page spread is shots that
are taken from actual games and edited to fit into the magazine. The
writing style on the front cover is very simple, it leaves you wanting to
read the articles as they only give you slight bits of information and not
even a little part of the actual story. Inside the actual magazine the
language is very formal and like a typical broadsheet newspaper style
rather than a magazine style, this again shows the target audience they
are interested in is older football fans.
Big Write Hook:
This magazine is a boxing focused magazine. The colour scheme here is rather simple, as it is
trying to make the full focus on the main picture of the cover, despite this though they have
made the writing along the side, which states other boxers that will be in the magazine,
white, which makes it stand out and be easily shown. The photography used is of a typical
boxing profile photo, so they have taken this from possibly a Sky Sports graphic which will
show a fight screen, and they have edited this to show him as a king, which makes people
who may not know who he is know that he is a big deal, as well as this the photo is of
Anthony Joshua, who is currently one of the most well known boxing heavyweights in the
world. There is not much writing on the front cover and therefore there is not much of a
writing style, the only writing on there is names of boxers, as well as the words “Big
Puncher” along the side of the magazine, the fact that there is not much writing shows that
the target audience they are aiming this at may be a younger audience who doesn’t want to
read a lot of block text. The website of Big Write hook just includes a menu which gives you
the option of reading every magazine edition that they have produced.
Sport Magazine:
Sport Magazine is a general sports magazine, just aimed at all sports fans in
general and not a specific sports fans. The colour scheme that they have used
in this magazine is very simple and this will target more of an older audience
who want to read about serious sporting stories, as it is not a colourful and
all over the place front cover. The photography that has been used will be
from there own studio and features Ronda Rousey, a very popular UFC
fighter, and the subject on the front cover is the rise of women in combat
sports, they have used Ronda Rousey on this as she is the most famous
example of a woman rising to the top of a combat sport, this will make them
appeal to a larger target audience of people due to her being so well known.
The writing style is reasonably simple, as this fits with the colour scheme on
the front cover, it just gives you little bits of one story, making you intrigued
for the rest. Inside the magazine the writing is very formal and includes a lot
of block text, meaning they are appealing to the older and more serious
sports fan base.
OK!
This is a celebrity gossip magazine, the target audience they appeal to is
mostly younger woman and people who are interested in celebrity
personalities. The colour scheme here is that they put most of the important
text in yellow to make sure it stands out from the rest, as well as this it has
every different story in different coloured boxes, this makes you know that
they are different stories and makes sure no readers get confused. Also in
the double page spread the colour scheme matches part of the
photography, the colours they have used in the text and box behind the text
is green and white, the same green and white that Chris in the picture is
wearing on his t-shirt. The photography used is mostly from paparazzi on the
outside of the magazine, but the main story has there own photography that
will have been taken once they had done the interviews with the people in
the story. The writing style is very informal as the target audience they
appeal to prefer this kind of writing than formal and block text, this is shown
on the inside of the magazine through most of the double page spread being
a picture, and the main parts being in large text, with an article taking up
around a third of the page. The website for this magazine has very up to
date celebrity news from the past day, compared to the magazines stories of
the last week or two.
Xbox Official Magazine
The Xbox Official Magazine is a magazine based on gaming news, they
target a younger audience who play video games. The colour scheme used
on the front cover and the double page spread uses relevant colours to
the subject that they are talking about, they use the colour scheme from
the star wars franchise, this will appeal to a target audience who are
interested in Star Wars, as they will instantly recognise the theme of the
magazine. The photography used on the magazine is from the game, the
game developers will have sent this screenshot to show how good the
graphics of the game are. The front cover of the magazine doesn’t include
much text, but the writing style is that of the Star Wars franchise, making
it appeal to the star wars fans. The inside of the magazine has a lot of
block text, but there is more pictures on these pages than text, so this
means the target audience is still a younger audience, as the block text is
not much if you compare it with other parts of the magazine.
PC Gamer
PC Gamer is a gaming magazine, the target audience will be mostly teenage males
who are interested in gaming. The colour scheme for this magazine is that it
shows information on the side, along with blobs and stars, in red, to differentiate
it from the rest of the cover, as well as this the yellow at the top shows that this is
important information. The photography used on the cover, double page spread,
and the website are all taken from games, either these will have been sent from
the game developer to make the game look good, or they are screenshots they
have taken themselves. The writing style on the cover and the double page spread
shows that the target audience is younger, as there are more pictures than text in
the magazine, there is also not much block text in the magazine, the website
shows news and once clicked the news shows a lot of block text, but this would
still be towards this target audience, as they have clicked on the news pages to
find out everything about what has been stated in the article title. The language
they use is informal as well as using a lot of technical language to do with gaming,
this keeps the same target audience as it mostly only uses formal language when
explaining the games, which is the reason many people are reading the magazine
and/or on the website.
World Soccer
World Soccer is a football magazine, the target audience they aim at is
older football fans who know more about the game and are interested in
important news. The colour scheme they use is the same with every
magazine edition, so this is more of a recognisable way of producing the
magazine, regular readers will recognise the colours straight away. All the
photography that is used on the website and magazine are shots taken
during actual football games, that either they have attended and taken
themselves, or taken from a TV feed, they are also photos of famous
sports stars, and the main focus of the magazine cover is of Lionel Messi,
who is the most well known person from any of the stories that they
have in the magazine, they put Lionel Messi on the front cover as he will
attract more eyes to the magazine, as he is recognised by a lot more
people than any other person they have a story on in the magazine. The
writing style they use is very formal, it is more like a broadsheet
newspaper style of writing as this is what they believe the target
audience they are aiming at want, this is as they produce more serious
news than other football magazines. This is the same throughout the
website and the magazine, they keep the same theme throughout
everything that they produce.
Idea Generation
Key:
Mood Board
Proposal
Working Title:
MySports Weekly
Audience:
The age of my target audience will be around 13+, this is as I believe this is the age where they start to take sport seriously rather than reading children aimed sport
magazines, such as Match! or Match Of The Day. The social status is all of ABC1C2DE as I don’t think sport appeals to any specific social status, therefore I will aim my
product at them all. The gender I am aiming at is mostly male, as they are typically more interested in sport, but I won’t be aiming at either gender specifically as
both can be interested in the topics covered in my magazine. The psychographic I will be aiming towards is belongers, as belongers belong to certain societies and
take a lot of there interests from either these or family and friends, and sport is mostly a hobby that is passed down through family.
Rationale:
The skills I have acquired throughout the year will help me in this project, firstly the Photoshop skills I have learnt will transfer over to InDesign as they use very
similar tools and processes, I also made a poster in the first project which will help me in the design work. As well as this I have used a camera in the first project and
this will mean I am used to the techniques with the camera and the photography I will use in my magazine will be better because of this.
Project Concept:
For my magazine I am going to make a sports news & rumours magazine, this will include a front cover, which will feature one main story and a few side stories to
draw in the reader and grab the attention of readers, as well as a double page spread, which will feature one story, with a lot of detail on this, as this will be the main
story on the front cover, meaning this will be the reason a lot of people buy the magazine. The research I will need will be on the Ballon D’or mostly, as this is my
main story, and all the other things on the front cover are things I will not go into much detail about, and I already know enough about them subjects to just write a
brief thing about them on the front cover, the research I will have to do will be mostly on stats, things such as games, goals and assists and then comparing them
with each other to show who is more deserving, as well as individual achievements I will research the team’s achievements as this can also effect they’re standing in
the final Balon D’or rankings.
Evaluation:
I could evaluate my work through audience research, possibly through a questionnaire which asks my audience many questions about my magazine, this will help me
know how the audience took my magazine and will give me good tips for next time, I could also conduct interviews if I want to get more details, as this is a
qualitative method.
Layout – Front Cover:
Top part of magazine will
be the magazine name
Below that is the title of the
magazine edition, this being
the main news article.
The front cover will feature
pictures of the three Balon D’or
nominee’s, this shows big names
which will attract a larger
audience, as well as expanding
on the stories headline, in the
actual product these will be split
into three sections rather than
just having them seemingly next
to each other.
Background of the front
cover will be a photo I
have taken, similar to this.
Bottom of cover will feature
other news stories that will
attract readers attention and will
be featured in the magazine,
separating these from other
stories with boxes to stop any
possible reader confusion, could
be done with blobs and stars
rather than a simple box, but I
think this design leaves it looking
simple and not messy.
Layout – Double Page Spread
The first page of the
double page spread will
be split into three
sections, these being for
each balon d’or
nominee, the three
columns will feature a
picture of the three and
then text showing why
they should be in with a
chance of winning this
year’s balon d’or, these
are the articles of the
magazine, as well as a
show of the stats that
they have from this year
The next page of the
double page spread is
focused on the team of
the year, this will feature
a field with all the
positions on, these are
in green, in the actual
magazine I will make my
choices for the team
rather than leaving them
blank, as well as writing
a little bio of the stats
and achievements they
have in the past year.
In the double page
spread the background
will once again be a
picture that I take, it’ll
follow a similar style of
photo as the last one,
but with a few distinct
differences to separate
the pages.
The same colour scheme
is continued from the
cover onto the double
page spread.
Layout - Website
This is a layout for the homepage of
my website, this will show some
news stories as well as promoting
the magazine, and it will feature a
navigation bar along the top.
There will be a menu bar at the top of
the website page which leads to other
parts of the website. The navigation
layout comes from this page.

Article Plans
• There will be three articles, one on each Balon D’or contestant, these will be bio style and will have all the achievements and stats from throughout
the year.
• The first article will be on Cristiano Ronaldo, this could be like this:
• At the age of 32 Cristiano Ronaldo is still tearing up the La Liga, Champions League and international football. This year Ronaldo is definitely deserving of the top three
nomination for the Balon D’or award, this year with Real Madrid he has won the Champions League, the Supercopa de España, the UEFA Super Cup, and the La Liga, he
was also the top scorer in the Champions League, as well as winning the best player award too. Individually he also won The Best FIFA Men’s Player 2017 and the UEFA
Best Player in Europe Award, and he has been included in the FIFA FIFPro World XI. All them achievements land him as the 1/6 favourite (SkyBet), when you see the
individual stats on top of the achievements he has managed during the year it may make it hard to argue against the odds, in 2017 Cristiano has played 41 games and
scored 36 goals for Real Madrid, this equals a goal every 103 minutes, almost one goal every match for Ronaldo, as well as having 9 assists in these games also. This year
Ronaldo has taken a bit of a different role in the Real Madrid squad, in the past few years he has been used as a left sided winger, but due to the absence of Gareth Bale
due to injury for the majority of this year, Ronaldo has been playing more central and as more of a striker, so that can make these stats even more impressive when you
realise that he is out of his natural position and has had to adapt to a new place on the field.
• The next article will be on Neymar:
• 25-year-old Neymar caused a storm this summer when he left Barcelona in order to cement his legacy as an individual superstar, his £199.8m move to PSG shocked many
as he smashed the transfer record by over £100m when PSG triggered the release clause in his Barcelona contract. This should not overlook the stats he has managed to
achieve in the 2017 calendar year, while having to adapt to life in a new country. The Brazilian winger won the Copa Del Ray with Barcelona this year. Individually he has
managed to score 29 goals and assist 27 in 43 games, added together that is 56 goal contributions in 43 games, as the minutes he has played is 2472 he has made a goal
contribution every 35.77 minutes, meaning at least two goals in a full game, this is a very impressive stat and makes him more than worthy to be at least in the top three
of the Balon D’or.
• Then the last article will be on Messi:
• Lionel Messi has been on fire this past year, him and his Barcelona teammates are doing well to persevere through losing one of the key players of the squad in Neymar,
as of writing they currently sit top of La Liga by 4 points, a good advantage to have at such an early point in the season. Last year Messi may have seemed to have a bit of
a trophy drought for his standards, only winning the Copa Del Ray, which although is an achievement, is not what Messi will have set out to achieve. Heartbreak for his
nation would have undoubtedly happened if it weren’t for his heroics in the last game of the South American World Cup Qualifiers, where Messi secured Argentina’s
place in the world cup with an outstanding performance and a hat-trick to match. Statistics wise Messi is the best of the bunch in the battle for the Balon D’or, bagging 37
goals and 12 assists in 2017 so far, he played a total of 2975 minutes meaning he contributed to a goal every 50.42 minutes, while not being as good as Neymar’s goal
contributions Messi has played a lot more football this season, and Messi stands out from the rest as more of an individual player. In our opinion here at MySports we
believe that Messi deserves the Balon D’or, our reasoning behind this is that he has played better than the other two this year, Ronaldo has achieved more, but this is due
to the team playing behind Ronaldo being in terrific form, Ronaldo hasn’t shone individually as much as Messi has this year.
Style Sheet
These colours are colours that may be
used across the magazine, for relevance
to certain parts of the magazine, or for
use in colour schemes.
These are possible groups of colours that could be
used as colour schemes, all colours that are
touching are together in a possible colour scheme,
some of these are together as they have relevance
to stories, such as the blue and white, red and blue,
and darker red and blue are all used to show the
team colours of the three Balon D’or nominee’s.
MySports – Futura
MySports – Monaco
MySports – Phosphate
These are the texts that I could
possibly use for a headline and
maybe sub titles, the block text
wouldn’t be in fonts as fancy as
this as it may be a distraction, the
top two could be possible fonts
for articles.
Experiments
InDesign Experiments – 5x5 Photography Magazine
To start the experiments we used InDesign, in order to
get used to the grid system that is used on InDesign we
were tasked with creating certain types of products
within certain grids, this was a 5x5 photography
magazine I made. To make this I first made the 5x5
grid, then I decided where the pictures would go with
the picture frame tool, this meant I could choose the
layout of the page before actually finding pictures for
the magazine, this meant I could find and use more
suitable pictures for the layout of the magazine rather
than finding pictures first and then having to change
what type of layout my magazine has. From there I
selected the photo’s I wanted to use and then used the
place tool in order to put them into the frame that was
created before. After that I created the text boxes and
placed them in the remaining parts of the grid. To fill
them rather than creating a load of rambling text I
used Lorem Ipsum, which uses random Latin words to
create block text in order to show you what the page
layout would be like after your articles had been
inputted into it. I also linked the text boxes so that text
would flow from one box into the other, keeping all the
articles together and making it less hassle than having
to keep changing text boxes.
InDesign Experiments – Website (8 Columns)
After that the next type of product was
a website, and this had to be done in 8
columns. For this I made a sports
website, one of the columns I turned
into a menu for the site, and then the
others were split into text and pictures.
Once again I used the same framing
tool to place the pictures before finding
pictures to fit into them, and I used
Lorem Ipsum again for the block text. I
once again linked the two text boxes.
Website Experiment - Wix
From there I made a website, I tried a couple of
different sites and the first was Wix. I chose a
template and used the basis of my real magazine,
which will be sports based, I used a template to
start with but then from there I deleted all the
parts as I didn’t like the template, so from there I
made my own layout of the website, I made the
layout to reflect different links, this would be the
homepage and it would link into all different
parts of the website, such as information on how
to order the magazine.
Website Experiment - Yola
The next website experiment I produced was on
Yola, for this one I didn’t use a template and I
created a similar kind of website to my other
one, in order to compare the websites better, as I
will have used similar tools so they will be easily
comparable. In this site I used more of a news
style than a style with different sections for
different parts of news, this shows more of an
appeal I think as it shows many big stars. Out of
both of the web designing sites I believe Wix is
better as you can do a lot more and a lot better
things and it is much simpler to use.
Magazine Front Cover Experiment - Photoshop
For this experiment I designed a front cover of magazine, this wasn’t to
do with the subject of my final magazine. To do this firstly I created a
layout, in the final product this can still be seen where the yellow lines
and the black backgrounds are, this gave me ideas on the spacing of
certain stories, as well as giving me ideas on the type of images I could
use and the spacing between these images. I think I did that well and
the final product came out well, as all the different sections are spaced
well and it is not messy, yet it still has plenty of information on the
cover. As well as this there is a good colour scheme on the cover of my
magazine, and it has been stuck to all the way across the cover, making
it look professional and consistent, as well as adding a good theme to
the cover. I think the way the main picture looks is also very good, the
way the three men are spaced and cut from the original picture they
were in to fitting into the box I have given them was done well, and the
way they all fit with each other, the champion being higher up than the
others, looks good as well. The colours used also make it stand out, as
the yellow draws attention to the writing, and the back and yellow go
well together in the format they are on on this page. It also uses many
fan favourites and big stars in the industry, which will draw in a lot of
attention to the product.

Magazine Research

  • 2. FourFourTwo: FourFourTwo is a football based magazine. The colour scheme is rather bright and it makes everything on the cover noticeable, as the blobs and stars that are on the front cover stand out as well as the main story, this means everything is seen and someone who may be more interested in another type of story will still be interested in the magazine, in the inside of the magazine the colour scheme is relevant to the person the article is about, the blue is used as the player plays for Chelsea, who’s main colour is blue. The photography uses a celebrity as the main focus, the picture has been set-up and taken in a studio, the other photos that are used on the cover are taken from other places, such as an in game photo for one of the side subjects, this is the same for the inside of the magazine. The writing style and language used appeals to the target audience, as it uses footballing language and structures to draw an audience in, for example “The Greatest Premier League Striker Ever” will draw in an audience that supports and watches the Premier League, as well as using a lot of exclamation mark throughout the magazine to try and show importance, as well as this on the inside of the magazine there isn’t a lot of text and more focus on the image, making it seem as if the target audience is younger football fans. The website they have for FourFourTwo is very similar to the magazine, as it produces news articles similar to what is in the magazine, it’s like an interactive version of the magazine.
  • 3. Matchday: Matchday magazine is trying to appeal to a target audience that is more interested in the tactical and informational side of football rather than just watching the game and hearing certain player stories, they appeal to more of an older fan base. The colour scheme used in this magazine is rather simple, this appeals to the more serious target audience of this magazine. The photography used on the cover features a big star in football, probably the most well known current football player, in a shot that has been set-up and taken in a studio, they have used Cristiano Ronaldo here as he is the most known person that has a story featured in the magazine, and therefore he will draw more attention and people to the magazine, the photography on the double page spread is shots that are taken from actual games and edited to fit into the magazine. The writing style on the front cover is very simple, it leaves you wanting to read the articles as they only give you slight bits of information and not even a little part of the actual story. Inside the actual magazine the language is very formal and like a typical broadsheet newspaper style rather than a magazine style, this again shows the target audience they are interested in is older football fans.
  • 4. Big Write Hook: This magazine is a boxing focused magazine. The colour scheme here is rather simple, as it is trying to make the full focus on the main picture of the cover, despite this though they have made the writing along the side, which states other boxers that will be in the magazine, white, which makes it stand out and be easily shown. The photography used is of a typical boxing profile photo, so they have taken this from possibly a Sky Sports graphic which will show a fight screen, and they have edited this to show him as a king, which makes people who may not know who he is know that he is a big deal, as well as this the photo is of Anthony Joshua, who is currently one of the most well known boxing heavyweights in the world. There is not much writing on the front cover and therefore there is not much of a writing style, the only writing on there is names of boxers, as well as the words “Big Puncher” along the side of the magazine, the fact that there is not much writing shows that the target audience they are aiming this at may be a younger audience who doesn’t want to read a lot of block text. The website of Big Write hook just includes a menu which gives you the option of reading every magazine edition that they have produced.
  • 5. Sport Magazine: Sport Magazine is a general sports magazine, just aimed at all sports fans in general and not a specific sports fans. The colour scheme that they have used in this magazine is very simple and this will target more of an older audience who want to read about serious sporting stories, as it is not a colourful and all over the place front cover. The photography that has been used will be from there own studio and features Ronda Rousey, a very popular UFC fighter, and the subject on the front cover is the rise of women in combat sports, they have used Ronda Rousey on this as she is the most famous example of a woman rising to the top of a combat sport, this will make them appeal to a larger target audience of people due to her being so well known. The writing style is reasonably simple, as this fits with the colour scheme on the front cover, it just gives you little bits of one story, making you intrigued for the rest. Inside the magazine the writing is very formal and includes a lot of block text, meaning they are appealing to the older and more serious sports fan base.
  • 6. OK! This is a celebrity gossip magazine, the target audience they appeal to is mostly younger woman and people who are interested in celebrity personalities. The colour scheme here is that they put most of the important text in yellow to make sure it stands out from the rest, as well as this it has every different story in different coloured boxes, this makes you know that they are different stories and makes sure no readers get confused. Also in the double page spread the colour scheme matches part of the photography, the colours they have used in the text and box behind the text is green and white, the same green and white that Chris in the picture is wearing on his t-shirt. The photography used is mostly from paparazzi on the outside of the magazine, but the main story has there own photography that will have been taken once they had done the interviews with the people in the story. The writing style is very informal as the target audience they appeal to prefer this kind of writing than formal and block text, this is shown on the inside of the magazine through most of the double page spread being a picture, and the main parts being in large text, with an article taking up around a third of the page. The website for this magazine has very up to date celebrity news from the past day, compared to the magazines stories of the last week or two.
  • 7. Xbox Official Magazine The Xbox Official Magazine is a magazine based on gaming news, they target a younger audience who play video games. The colour scheme used on the front cover and the double page spread uses relevant colours to the subject that they are talking about, they use the colour scheme from the star wars franchise, this will appeal to a target audience who are interested in Star Wars, as they will instantly recognise the theme of the magazine. The photography used on the magazine is from the game, the game developers will have sent this screenshot to show how good the graphics of the game are. The front cover of the magazine doesn’t include much text, but the writing style is that of the Star Wars franchise, making it appeal to the star wars fans. The inside of the magazine has a lot of block text, but there is more pictures on these pages than text, so this means the target audience is still a younger audience, as the block text is not much if you compare it with other parts of the magazine.
  • 8. PC Gamer PC Gamer is a gaming magazine, the target audience will be mostly teenage males who are interested in gaming. The colour scheme for this magazine is that it shows information on the side, along with blobs and stars, in red, to differentiate it from the rest of the cover, as well as this the yellow at the top shows that this is important information. The photography used on the cover, double page spread, and the website are all taken from games, either these will have been sent from the game developer to make the game look good, or they are screenshots they have taken themselves. The writing style on the cover and the double page spread shows that the target audience is younger, as there are more pictures than text in the magazine, there is also not much block text in the magazine, the website shows news and once clicked the news shows a lot of block text, but this would still be towards this target audience, as they have clicked on the news pages to find out everything about what has been stated in the article title. The language they use is informal as well as using a lot of technical language to do with gaming, this keeps the same target audience as it mostly only uses formal language when explaining the games, which is the reason many people are reading the magazine and/or on the website.
  • 9. World Soccer World Soccer is a football magazine, the target audience they aim at is older football fans who know more about the game and are interested in important news. The colour scheme they use is the same with every magazine edition, so this is more of a recognisable way of producing the magazine, regular readers will recognise the colours straight away. All the photography that is used on the website and magazine are shots taken during actual football games, that either they have attended and taken themselves, or taken from a TV feed, they are also photos of famous sports stars, and the main focus of the magazine cover is of Lionel Messi, who is the most well known person from any of the stories that they have in the magazine, they put Lionel Messi on the front cover as he will attract more eyes to the magazine, as he is recognised by a lot more people than any other person they have a story on in the magazine. The writing style they use is very formal, it is more like a broadsheet newspaper style of writing as this is what they believe the target audience they are aiming at want, this is as they produce more serious news than other football magazines. This is the same throughout the website and the magazine, they keep the same theme throughout everything that they produce.
  • 11. Key:
  • 13. Proposal Working Title: MySports Weekly Audience: The age of my target audience will be around 13+, this is as I believe this is the age where they start to take sport seriously rather than reading children aimed sport magazines, such as Match! or Match Of The Day. The social status is all of ABC1C2DE as I don’t think sport appeals to any specific social status, therefore I will aim my product at them all. The gender I am aiming at is mostly male, as they are typically more interested in sport, but I won’t be aiming at either gender specifically as both can be interested in the topics covered in my magazine. The psychographic I will be aiming towards is belongers, as belongers belong to certain societies and take a lot of there interests from either these or family and friends, and sport is mostly a hobby that is passed down through family. Rationale: The skills I have acquired throughout the year will help me in this project, firstly the Photoshop skills I have learnt will transfer over to InDesign as they use very similar tools and processes, I also made a poster in the first project which will help me in the design work. As well as this I have used a camera in the first project and this will mean I am used to the techniques with the camera and the photography I will use in my magazine will be better because of this. Project Concept: For my magazine I am going to make a sports news & rumours magazine, this will include a front cover, which will feature one main story and a few side stories to draw in the reader and grab the attention of readers, as well as a double page spread, which will feature one story, with a lot of detail on this, as this will be the main story on the front cover, meaning this will be the reason a lot of people buy the magazine. The research I will need will be on the Ballon D’or mostly, as this is my main story, and all the other things on the front cover are things I will not go into much detail about, and I already know enough about them subjects to just write a brief thing about them on the front cover, the research I will have to do will be mostly on stats, things such as games, goals and assists and then comparing them with each other to show who is more deserving, as well as individual achievements I will research the team’s achievements as this can also effect they’re standing in the final Balon D’or rankings. Evaluation: I could evaluate my work through audience research, possibly through a questionnaire which asks my audience many questions about my magazine, this will help me know how the audience took my magazine and will give me good tips for next time, I could also conduct interviews if I want to get more details, as this is a qualitative method.
  • 14. Layout – Front Cover: Top part of magazine will be the magazine name Below that is the title of the magazine edition, this being the main news article. The front cover will feature pictures of the three Balon D’or nominee’s, this shows big names which will attract a larger audience, as well as expanding on the stories headline, in the actual product these will be split into three sections rather than just having them seemingly next to each other. Background of the front cover will be a photo I have taken, similar to this. Bottom of cover will feature other news stories that will attract readers attention and will be featured in the magazine, separating these from other stories with boxes to stop any possible reader confusion, could be done with blobs and stars rather than a simple box, but I think this design leaves it looking simple and not messy.
  • 15. Layout – Double Page Spread The first page of the double page spread will be split into three sections, these being for each balon d’or nominee, the three columns will feature a picture of the three and then text showing why they should be in with a chance of winning this year’s balon d’or, these are the articles of the magazine, as well as a show of the stats that they have from this year The next page of the double page spread is focused on the team of the year, this will feature a field with all the positions on, these are in green, in the actual magazine I will make my choices for the team rather than leaving them blank, as well as writing a little bio of the stats and achievements they have in the past year. In the double page spread the background will once again be a picture that I take, it’ll follow a similar style of photo as the last one, but with a few distinct differences to separate the pages. The same colour scheme is continued from the cover onto the double page spread.
  • 16. Layout - Website This is a layout for the homepage of my website, this will show some news stories as well as promoting the magazine, and it will feature a navigation bar along the top. There will be a menu bar at the top of the website page which leads to other parts of the website. The navigation layout comes from this page. All NewsFootball News Combat Sport News Contact Page Magazine Order Page English Football Spanish Football German Football Italian FootballFrench Football Rest of the World Football. Links to Different Sports from this UFC/MMA Boxing Others Links to Social Media
  • 17. Article Plans • There will be three articles, one on each Balon D’or contestant, these will be bio style and will have all the achievements and stats from throughout the year. • The first article will be on Cristiano Ronaldo, this could be like this: • At the age of 32 Cristiano Ronaldo is still tearing up the La Liga, Champions League and international football. This year Ronaldo is definitely deserving of the top three nomination for the Balon D’or award, this year with Real Madrid he has won the Champions League, the Supercopa de España, the UEFA Super Cup, and the La Liga, he was also the top scorer in the Champions League, as well as winning the best player award too. Individually he also won The Best FIFA Men’s Player 2017 and the UEFA Best Player in Europe Award, and he has been included in the FIFA FIFPro World XI. All them achievements land him as the 1/6 favourite (SkyBet), when you see the individual stats on top of the achievements he has managed during the year it may make it hard to argue against the odds, in 2017 Cristiano has played 41 games and scored 36 goals for Real Madrid, this equals a goal every 103 minutes, almost one goal every match for Ronaldo, as well as having 9 assists in these games also. This year Ronaldo has taken a bit of a different role in the Real Madrid squad, in the past few years he has been used as a left sided winger, but due to the absence of Gareth Bale due to injury for the majority of this year, Ronaldo has been playing more central and as more of a striker, so that can make these stats even more impressive when you realise that he is out of his natural position and has had to adapt to a new place on the field. • The next article will be on Neymar: • 25-year-old Neymar caused a storm this summer when he left Barcelona in order to cement his legacy as an individual superstar, his £199.8m move to PSG shocked many as he smashed the transfer record by over £100m when PSG triggered the release clause in his Barcelona contract. This should not overlook the stats he has managed to achieve in the 2017 calendar year, while having to adapt to life in a new country. The Brazilian winger won the Copa Del Ray with Barcelona this year. Individually he has managed to score 29 goals and assist 27 in 43 games, added together that is 56 goal contributions in 43 games, as the minutes he has played is 2472 he has made a goal contribution every 35.77 minutes, meaning at least two goals in a full game, this is a very impressive stat and makes him more than worthy to be at least in the top three of the Balon D’or. • Then the last article will be on Messi: • Lionel Messi has been on fire this past year, him and his Barcelona teammates are doing well to persevere through losing one of the key players of the squad in Neymar, as of writing they currently sit top of La Liga by 4 points, a good advantage to have at such an early point in the season. Last year Messi may have seemed to have a bit of a trophy drought for his standards, only winning the Copa Del Ray, which although is an achievement, is not what Messi will have set out to achieve. Heartbreak for his nation would have undoubtedly happened if it weren’t for his heroics in the last game of the South American World Cup Qualifiers, where Messi secured Argentina’s place in the world cup with an outstanding performance and a hat-trick to match. Statistics wise Messi is the best of the bunch in the battle for the Balon D’or, bagging 37 goals and 12 assists in 2017 so far, he played a total of 2975 minutes meaning he contributed to a goal every 50.42 minutes, while not being as good as Neymar’s goal contributions Messi has played a lot more football this season, and Messi stands out from the rest as more of an individual player. In our opinion here at MySports we believe that Messi deserves the Balon D’or, our reasoning behind this is that he has played better than the other two this year, Ronaldo has achieved more, but this is due to the team playing behind Ronaldo being in terrific form, Ronaldo hasn’t shone individually as much as Messi has this year.
  • 18. Style Sheet These colours are colours that may be used across the magazine, for relevance to certain parts of the magazine, or for use in colour schemes. These are possible groups of colours that could be used as colour schemes, all colours that are touching are together in a possible colour scheme, some of these are together as they have relevance to stories, such as the blue and white, red and blue, and darker red and blue are all used to show the team colours of the three Balon D’or nominee’s. MySports – Futura MySports – Monaco MySports – Phosphate These are the texts that I could possibly use for a headline and maybe sub titles, the block text wouldn’t be in fonts as fancy as this as it may be a distraction, the top two could be possible fonts for articles.
  • 20. InDesign Experiments – 5x5 Photography Magazine To start the experiments we used InDesign, in order to get used to the grid system that is used on InDesign we were tasked with creating certain types of products within certain grids, this was a 5x5 photography magazine I made. To make this I first made the 5x5 grid, then I decided where the pictures would go with the picture frame tool, this meant I could choose the layout of the page before actually finding pictures for the magazine, this meant I could find and use more suitable pictures for the layout of the magazine rather than finding pictures first and then having to change what type of layout my magazine has. From there I selected the photo’s I wanted to use and then used the place tool in order to put them into the frame that was created before. After that I created the text boxes and placed them in the remaining parts of the grid. To fill them rather than creating a load of rambling text I used Lorem Ipsum, which uses random Latin words to create block text in order to show you what the page layout would be like after your articles had been inputted into it. I also linked the text boxes so that text would flow from one box into the other, keeping all the articles together and making it less hassle than having to keep changing text boxes.
  • 21. InDesign Experiments – Website (8 Columns) After that the next type of product was a website, and this had to be done in 8 columns. For this I made a sports website, one of the columns I turned into a menu for the site, and then the others were split into text and pictures. Once again I used the same framing tool to place the pictures before finding pictures to fit into them, and I used Lorem Ipsum again for the block text. I once again linked the two text boxes.
  • 22. Website Experiment - Wix From there I made a website, I tried a couple of different sites and the first was Wix. I chose a template and used the basis of my real magazine, which will be sports based, I used a template to start with but then from there I deleted all the parts as I didn’t like the template, so from there I made my own layout of the website, I made the layout to reflect different links, this would be the homepage and it would link into all different parts of the website, such as information on how to order the magazine.
  • 23. Website Experiment - Yola The next website experiment I produced was on Yola, for this one I didn’t use a template and I created a similar kind of website to my other one, in order to compare the websites better, as I will have used similar tools so they will be easily comparable. In this site I used more of a news style than a style with different sections for different parts of news, this shows more of an appeal I think as it shows many big stars. Out of both of the web designing sites I believe Wix is better as you can do a lot more and a lot better things and it is much simpler to use.
  • 24. Magazine Front Cover Experiment - Photoshop For this experiment I designed a front cover of magazine, this wasn’t to do with the subject of my final magazine. To do this firstly I created a layout, in the final product this can still be seen where the yellow lines and the black backgrounds are, this gave me ideas on the spacing of certain stories, as well as giving me ideas on the type of images I could use and the spacing between these images. I think I did that well and the final product came out well, as all the different sections are spaced well and it is not messy, yet it still has plenty of information on the cover. As well as this there is a good colour scheme on the cover of my magazine, and it has been stuck to all the way across the cover, making it look professional and consistent, as well as adding a good theme to the cover. I think the way the main picture looks is also very good, the way the three men are spaced and cut from the original picture they were in to fitting into the box I have given them was done well, and the way they all fit with each other, the champion being higher up than the others, looks good as well. The colours used also make it stand out, as the yellow draws attention to the writing, and the back and yellow go well together in the format they are on on this page. It also uses many fan favourites and big stars in the industry, which will draw in a lot of attention to the product.
