This is a football magazine which is called four four two. The name four four two and which is the masthead of
the magazine implies to the audience that this is a football magazine. This has been done by them naming their
magazine after the most famous and traditional formation in football. The masthead which is bold and white
stands out on the magazine. This has been done so that the audience instantly see the name of the magazine as
soon as they pick it up. The masthead also creates a contrast on the red background. The background color on
the magazine has been used due to the main image being Salah who plays for Liverpool and the color is the
color of that team. This has a deeper meaning , meaning that his club and country both play in red colors. This
color also has a gradient which consists of a darker red and a lighter red this could symbolize the colors of the
Egypt and Liverpool kits which are both teams he plays for. The red color on the background stands out
instantly. The main image consists of a well known footballer Salah. He has been chosen to be the main image
due to himself being crowned premier league player of the year. This is the reason a crown has been placed on
his head. The golden crown has been used as this award has been used to display how good this award is. This
magazine has included all the conventions of what a magazine should include. One of the conventions they have
not followed is to do with the target audience related to the genre. By this I mean that usually with football and
sport magazines they are usually aimed at younger kids , these are magazines like match of the day magazine ,
kick and shoot. The cover of this magazine makes the audience want to buy this due to it being more of a
mature and factual football magazine. The cover of the magazine also makes the audience want to buy this due
to the main image of the front which targets several different football fans as well as their main target audience.
The barcode they have used has been included so that customer can buy the magazine. The headings used have
been used to intrigue the reader and make them interested in that story. These have been covered in gold so
that they easily stick out on the background. This color has also been chosen because it matches with the color
of the crown. Usually in magazines they wont include to many different colors. They have included a large
yellow bold font with the text ‘Salah’ , this has been used so that the newer audience know who he is. This is
quite important as they may have heard of him but may not recognize him. This is important as newer football
fans may feel like they want to hear more about this player. The ,magazine has also included several other
images which are shown at the top and bottom of the cover. These will target possibly fans of their clubs. The
magazine has then included several pugs for example “I could play in midfield” and “I want to win the ballon
dor” , these pugs will cath the readers eye by only saying a statement. This will make the audience want to find
out more about for example why Son wants to win the ballon dor. This is another reason why the audience will
want to purchase the magazine. These pugs have been included at the top and the bottom of the page so that
the audience see them first and last if they were to scroll down the page. This has been done most likely so the
remember what is coming up in this edition.

4. This is a double page spread which was included in the four four two magazine. This double page
spread is showing the rivalry between both Barcelona and real Madrid. This has been included as this
Is a well known rivalry within football. The colors which have been included are basic however they do
make the writing and the font stand out. The picture at the bottom of the page has been used possibly
so that the audience can see how bug this game is in the world of football this has been shown by
their facial expressions. The heading TWO TRIBES has used an alliteration which then will make the
heading sound more dramatic and will also excite the reader for this game. The white color has been
used within this heading so that it stands out upon the black background. The font may have also been
used as it fits in with the color of the real Madrid kit. the small font has been used within this page
due to their target audience being more 14+ , this typically means they can read better.

This is the music magazine vibe. This magazine has covered its masthead due to it being a world
famous magazine. This masthead has also been covered due to the audience only really needing to
see the bold V so recognize this magazine. This is because there are not many magazines which start
with the letter v and also because this is a well known magazine. The masthead has included a bold
font with the color blue . This color has been used to make the magazine look more organized and
professional. This is because if magazines include too many different colors they can look quite
messy. The main image of this magazine is Kanye west this is because he is a internationally
recognizable rapper. He is also the on this specific issue of the magazine as he would have been very
relevant when this was made. This will target not only music fans but his fans as well , this will make
the audience want to purchase this. The color of the background is grey however it features a darker
shade behind the rappers head. This is to make the image of the rapper stand out. The magazine has
also used colors such as blue and pink these both have opposite connotations for example blue has
quite masculine connotations and pink has female connotations. This could suggest that both gender
read this magazine however it could be more on the male side due to them including more blue. The
main image on the magazine also includes the same blue color. This could also suggest that this is
more of a male magazine. This also shows that the mise en scene is organized and includes many
deeper meanings. The headings used have been to draw the readers attention into reading this
magazine. This has been done by them including stories and things that people want to see. They
have also included capital letters in a bold pink font. This has been done to catch the audiences eye.
These are also called pugs. Bright bold headings are one of the connotations within print based media
.the headings have included the name Kanye West who is instantly recognizable and this will alert
people who may not recognize him but no of him that this is him. Usually on covers they will use
alliterations or a play on words but music magazines don’t often include this. On this cover they have
also included something he says which can make the audience question what he has said. In this case
it says ‘I am rap’ this may make the audience question and make them interested into this statement.
This will bring the audience in. The magazine also includes a barcode , this barcode is used on all
magazines so that the audience can purchase the product. At the top of the cover the magazine uses
words such as secret and won’t , they have included specific words like these so that the audience
will buy the product. This has been done due to them words been done due to people wanting to
hear information only a small amount of people will hear.

7. This is a double page spread for the magazine vibe. In this magazine they have included a layout which is very similar to most double page spreads , this
includes a main image on one side and a lump of text at the other side. Some magazines include a bigger image and less text however these tend to be
magazines with younger target audiences. The main image they have included is a picture of Bruno mars. They have included Bruno mars here due to
people can instantly recognize him due to how famous he is. On this image they have used lighting on and around his face , this could be due to him
wearing glasses and a hat which would make him less recognizable if you were to see him about. They have also included a what seems to be a retro
boom box however it looks like a suitcase. They have included this just to show that this is a music magazine and this is a pop star. On the image they
have also included a dark navy color and a spot of light. This may have also been done due to him being surrounded by lights often and to try and make
it seem like he is stood on a stage. Finally the main image shows Bruno mars bending his leg and doing quite an odd stance. This may be because he
wants people to recognize his dance moves and possibly to show his young side. At the other side of the double page spread they have used a huge
lump of text. This indicates that this magazine is for teenagers and above. This is because younger members of the audience would rather look at bright
colors and pictures due to their reading not being that good or possibly due to them not enjoying it. At the top left of this page they have included a
bold text larger than the other section. This is because they want to give the audience a bit of information about what the main text is about. In this
heading they have used ‘when Mars Attacks’ , this has been written in a quite urban font , this indicates what type of music is which is rnb and hip hop.
They have also included the word ‘Attacks’ . This will make the audience question a number of outcomes such as who, what ,when ,where and why.
This will make the audience want to read this magazine. The color0 0of the font used in the main heading links to the color used in the main image. This
has been done to create a more organized and professional layout. They have used this navy font possibly due to it having connotations of his gender
and possibly him as a person. The connotations of blue being masculine , loyalty and also trustworthy.

This is a magazine cover by bcc called good food. The masthead used in this magazine is ‘Good
food’. The masthead isn’t hidden since the magazine isn’t well known , this is different to
magazines such as billboard and four four two. The color used here is white which has
connotations such as goodness and purity. These connotations imply that the food covered in
this magazine is going to be good and pure. The word good has been bolded to emphasize on the
quality of the food they’ cover. The masthead stands out on the blurred background which makes
it eye catching. Above the masthead the magazine then includes a little tag line , ‘Britain's biggest
selling food magazine’. This is to attract the audiences attention. This has been placed in a small
font and is in yellow. This is because they want you to be attracted by the main image or the
masthead and this will most likely only be visible if you pick it up. They have done it like this to
then pursued you even more. By including this tag line the audience will instantly think it must be
good due to it being the most popular food magazine. This will make you want to buy it. Next to
that there is again some text however this is slightly bigger. This is ‘75 recipes’. This has been
made slightly different to emphasize the amount of recipes you get. The main image on this
magazine is a close up of an Easter cake. this has been done due to it being relevant to when this
issue was made. The picture also lings to the masthead ‘good food’ this implies that this cake is
good. The picture of the cake stands out on the blurred background which will instantly draw the
audiences eyes to that image. This would most likely be the first thing they see. On this
magazine cover they have also include several headings all of which are in either yellow or white.
This is because they both stand out on this blurred background. The text is all bold and clear to
see. On the cover they have emphasized the word ‘Easter’ by making it bold and larger than the
other text. This has been done because they want the audience to know that this is about Easter.
This magazine then includes a puff which is the yellow rectangle at the bottom of the cover. One
this rectangle they have included Mary Berry who is arguably one of Britain's most famous cook.
She has been included on this as she has quite a large fan base and she is also very well liked.
This will appeal to her fans as well as just fans of cooking. The magazine has then included a
barcode which features on most magazine covers. This magazine has followed the conventions
of print based media due to it including a large bold mast head , bold headings and main image
and a barcode. The language used on this magazine is quite simplistic , this shows that their
audience is anyone hover they will try and target possibly adults who are women.

10. This is a magazine double page spread for the delicious magazine. This magazine double page spread shows a lot of differences compared to the music
and sport magazines. One difference being that this magazine is including more pictures. Another difference is that this double page spread looks more
classy and posh. This has been shown due to the marble background effect and marble is quite an expensive material. In music magazines they usually
just use standard colors with a gradient. This is because they both have very different target audiences . Food magazines being targeted at 30+ and
music magazines targeting teenagers and young adults.
This front cover includes several images all of which0 are of food. These dishes on the magazine have all been made to look good to show the audience
that they can also cook good food too. The images also reflect the name of the magazine which is delicious and these dishes reflect that. The images
have been edited to enhance the colors of the greens and whites to make the dish look more appetizing , this will also appeal to the audience more due
to them wanting to eat that. The magazine then includes quite a lot of text which again reflects their target audience , this is because these recipes
must be quite complex which means that this will be for the people who really like to cook. The amount of text also shows that they are targeting this
magazine at an older audience due to younger people liking more images and less text. The headings they have used are very simple and just tell you
what you can make. This indicates that this is a formal magazine this again reflects their target audience. The font they have used is quite classy , this is
due to them not including bubble or graffiti style writing. This font is instead noticeable and quite thin.

products have?
• All the magazines follow the magazine conventions to an extent however not every magazine follows them. Also
the magazines all have big bold text especially the magazine name this is unless the magazine is very well known.
some of the magazines also have pugs on the front cover , these are things like stickers or text in bold shapes.
These draw the audiences attention to them. Another feature I found which was common was the fact they they
all included different fonts and colours to appeal to their target audiences. This is also shown with the amount of
text used inside it. For example if a cover includes bright images and bright text with informal language they will
most likely be targeted at younger people. The final feature I have found is that is is very common to include a
barcode on the front of the magazine cover. This is done so that the audience can buy the product
• What aspects of the research will you include
within your on work?
• One aspect I will include within my work is going to be the conventions of the magazines it self. One of them
being including a big masthead. I will include this because I feel that my magazine is going to be something which
is going to target younger people. This may be because I am thinking of making a music or a football magazine.
Another aspect I will include is to use big headings and informal language this is again due to the target audience.
The main image I will include will be something to do with the magazine I will make , for example if I make a music
magazine I will have a music pop star on the front. The final aspect I will include is to include a double page
spread which will include similar conventions o the three covers I analysed. One being including an image of
someone who reflects the genre on the magazine. I will also include some text which links to the genre of the
magazine.
