This is a game magazine that follows the theme and cinematic of the idea I’m
interested within. I love the background of this cover and the color scheme that
is presented with it. The yellow writing and the dark scheme is there because
black and yellow is the main theme of the move "Star Wars” and this is what
particular game they are showcasing. The mast head of this magazine is very
edgy and jagged, which is reminiscent of the name of the magazine, obviously
intentional. The mast head is also transparent and see through indicating that
the main cover image in the magazine is the most important thing stated within
the magazine, as the mast head is purposely illustrating the image behind is
more important than the title. The amber color light presented within the title
is also quite cautious looking and gives the aurora of the magazine quite a
danger look, which I like as it could symbolize the character as bad. The selling
line of this magazine Is very persuasive as it mentions the fact that the edition
is “special”. Enticing its audience into understanding that the product is limited
and because of themselves purchasing it as they feel privileged as its quoted as
being “special”. The products trademark underneath the mast head is really
effective and although may not be the truth it still instructs the audience that
they must be if stated on their magazine. Looking at the center piece writing
we are stated with the name of the game and a little slogan underneath.
Although the writings quite small this just states the importance of the image,
showing that just seeing the image tells you what game it is, its that famous.
The writing also aligns perfectly with the characters mask/helmet. The subtitle
underneath the “Star Wars Battlefront” Is a rhetorical question asking the
audience their opinions on the question and also prompting the audience to
open and read in to find out. The writing shown at the bottom left and right of
the magazine are advertisements, unfortunately I’m unable to see the
advertisements shown but its clear to see that they follow the same color
scheme of that of the cover. The circle shown in the bottom is a really cool way
of indicating the issue number and like the rest of the magazine it follows the
same color pattern but still manages to stand out from the rest.
Existing ProductThis is a game magazine and is very similar to the design that I will be wanting to
produce. The style of image represented within the image is in my opinion really
well done. As the background is expertly cinematic and the rest of that cinematic
theme shows throughout. The darkish colour scheme, like the background, fits
really well as it goes well with every shade of colour they use in this magazine.
The effects of the magazine is really cool as well. It’s a image within an image as
you can make out as If its very important in order to this particular magazine.
Noticing as well that this whole magazine focuses on one game implying that this
game must be important or be new. The use of lighting is really well done in this
magazine as well, as it starts of really light in the top right hand corner but
gradually gets darker passing diagonally to the bottom left. Which perhaps means
some evil and good between the two characters. The masthead of this magazine,
showcasing its logo and boldly telling anyone who made the magazine.
Interestingly enough the mast head stands out more than the title of the game.
The titles font is seen throughout, so that everything shown Is relevant to this
particular magazine. In my opinion though the use of the fonts colours could have
been improved on. As looking at the font on the left hand side you can’t really
make out the top red parts and for the white parts shown underneath the red bits
they are equally as hard to read. I think the layout of this magazine is really good
and it connotes well with the look of the guys blade whose stood at the front.
Speaking about the layout of the magazine I like how the information is diagonal
to each other, informations on the left than the right than the left. I think this is a
great idea as it isn’t bunching all the information together and making it hard to
read such cramped information. Whilst with this one its sparse and easy to read
what's going on, minus the colour of the font. Looking in the bottom right hand
corner you’ll notice there's a barcode, the barcode adds a lot of professionalism
tend for me it looks better on the front than the back. This product is interested
by its audience because of the game cover for a start, its visually beautiful and
excellently laid out, another reason would be the games on the left included,
meaning that this game has variety and doesn’t just stick to advertising one game.
As I’d guess audience members want a game that includes multiple games than
just the one.

This a magazine product made from Xbox , that is what I myself are wanting to
create. I like the magazine idea of this, as it is out there it is bold and really strikes
the eye of the person viewing this particular magazine. The person presented on
the front is obviously connected to the game as the title of the game is connected
to the man, meaning he could be icon of the game? The “MW3” shown is very big
and is the biggest and brightest thing on the page this is to represent the fact that
it is the most important thing about the magazine and I really like how they have
done this, as it looks great. The rest of the magazine also fits in with the main
color of the title of the game. So everything with the magazine follows the theme
of the main game being advertised for the magazine. The main headline for the
magazine is big and bold but is out shunned by the game title which I will be sure
to put into my main magazine. In the right of the magazine you can see a big
green plug that is there to second the main title of the game magazine. Once
you’ve read the main title your eyes go straight towards the plug, as it’s the next
biggest and the next colorful from the main cover art. This like the main cover art
is telling you about a new game that will be featuring in the magazine, but it’s
more factual and isn’t really reviewing the game but telling you about the certain
game comparison to others or just facts about the game. I like the up lighting on
the character and composition of the background featured in this magazine. As it
looks faded, same with the font. The lighting makes the game look very dark but
in theory the magazine is very light due to the luminous green choice of color
presented throughout the magazine. On the left there is a little preview of a game
illuminated in the same font as the rest of magazine. I like this as the language
used is very intriguing and makes you want to read more. It uses a sense of
persuasion within it, using a rhetoric question to wonder the answer of that
question. The main headline of the magazine that being the big Xbox logo. A bit of
it is cut off so you can’t read all of it but that’s what is so interesting about it. As
you don’t need to be able to read it all as you know the companies name and you
know the familiarity of it, so its basically telling its audience the names not
important here is what is.

This is a interview for IGN and is similar to the kind of audio interview I would go
for and want to create. The interview is very professional but remains casual at
the same time. The language used within the interview is very informal, which
targets their audience of 12-25. The interview is mainly visual though as a
interview I will be doing will be mainly audio based and you won’t be able to see
anything whilst viewing the interview. The logo of this programme is good and
contrasts well with the rest of the theme of the whole interview. The interviewer
when interviewing the person does refer to himself via the name of the show so,
this is what intend to do with my interview. The interview was in a studio, with a
very gaming based setting. The studio was made and looked really well, On the
companies part I think this was a great idea and gave the interview more
interesting. The lighting used throughout this interview was creatively done, as
without the light binding the camera, it lit everyone's faces perfectly, giving the
viewers a perfect chance to see the interview in great quality. The composition of
this interview was very well done. As the layout of the planning ran really smooth
and felt as though it was a couple of people just hanging out and chatting to each
other. The angles In this interview were done well. As the interview starts off with
a wide shot of the two talking to each other, every time one of them is talking
solo, the camera goes into a close up of them, which I think is a great idea as it
engages the audience and makes us feel as though were actually there watching.
In the background there is also pictures of games and other greatly attractive
props, just adding to the things to look at within this interview. The colours within
this interview is mainly focused around the colour blue, due to the fact that “IGN”
is doing an interview with the ex- PlayStation boss and PlayStations main colour
and main theme being the colour blue. The mise en scene is really well done, as
I’ve mentioned earlier about the props looking very eye-catching and well ordered
and placed throughout the interview. For me adding a few details such as this,
just makes the interview that bit more professional and great to watch. It will
make the audience want to watch it because it targets its gaming audience
perfectly and everything included any gaming fan would be stupid not to like.

Compared to the newer magazines the old ones are quite similar in design and follow
the same cinematic theme within them which I think is really cool. The colours of
font of this magazine clearly reflect the characters and the location of those
characters as, the place is hot so the colours are there to resemble that which I think
is a cool idea to broadcast. It makes the audience want to buy it because of its eye
striking appeal and its interesting design it has to it. Its insanely colourful so it incites
the viewer in to look at it closer and read more features and eventually buy it. I really
like the heading and how the font is produced, it makes the product look bold and
stand out over the rest of the magazine but it compliments the colour scheme of the
magazine. The design of the font is also made to symbolise that of the console which
adds a lot of power to the magazine in my opinion. The boldness and the design of
the title of the game that is advertising itself upon the magazine is really cool and
looks impressive. The colours blended throughout are interesting and fit the look as
the character on the right, to which they both compliment each other, like the
majority of the magazine. The sub title of underneath the title of the game is witty
and allows you a little insight into how the game plays. The cover lines include a little
section suggesting what other games are a sub to the main game presented on the
front. These cover lines contrast really well with the black box, acting as if it’s a plug.
The red title of it complimenting the black background really well and that goes for
the white writing complimenting the black and the red. The Nintendo bar at the
bottom adds such authenticity and professionalism. I like the little writing as well, as
another little insight towards the contents of the magazine. Once again the red and
yellow colour scheme is being showcased throughout and its seen even clearer on
this part. Like I mentioned earlier the audience would want to buy a magazine such
as this, due to the colour and the design and the amount of these going on. The look
of its great. Plus the front cover doesn’t include that much information within it,
which is another plus, especially for a game cover, as you don’t want the front cover
to overwhelm your audience with blocks and blocks of writing. All you need is a little
information telling you what's included and a picture of the game that’s being
showcased. To which this game does perfectly.
Research Analysis
• What common features do the researched products
have?
• The common features that the researched products have is that they are all very organised and well structured in how they are presented. They all
also include similar colour schemes and dark textures presented throughout. They also all include a clear idea of what their product is advertising
which is good. As with the magazines I have reviewed they all have a clear idea of what games are on and what is their main game they are
advertising and what is connected to what. Another common feature is the layout of each of the magazine covers. With the masthead at the top of
the page and whatever game is being advertised on the front cover, that’s the theme of the rest of the magazine. This is shown throughout all the
magazines on my research. They all include a website link to their supposed website, linking the viewer to more information. The website link Is used
on all magazine covers, not just for looking professional but for redirected the viewer to the magazine on a online view, so you can read it online and
in hand. Another common feature is that they have all used their logos to support the masthead and included a plug to advertise and show case
something that’s within the magazine. Another common feature is the colour scheme of each of them is generally quite dark apart from the oldest
one. The magazines that are most recent though with a almost black colour scheme, still manage to stand out as much as the oldest one with the
brightest colours standing throughout it.
• What aspects of the research will you include within
your on work?
• The aspects of the research that I will include within my work is pretty much all of it as I think all of what I have researched is a great example of what
I should be making my magazine like and my interview about as all what was being shown and what was being said was all really good stuff and if any
of my products look like they selected few I have shown I will be happy. Another aspect of my research I would like to include is the website link. As I
think it’s a great idea to showcase my website and doing so makes my work look miles better and more professional. Another aspect I will include will
be a dark colour scheme as I like how it goes with pretty much every colour, which means I could experiment with multiple fonts and colours as the
dark scheme fits more or less everything. I think also including a plug would be an excellent idea, as It allows me to advertise something that's going
to be in the magazine without overwhelming my audience with too much blocky information. It also adds a bit of character too my magazine as well.
I also think I will take the idea of putting the logo up with my mast head as I think it makes the magazine look a lot more authentic and correct.
Questionnaire Analysis
Audience research
• Observation: My observation of this particular question is that my audience are 100% male.
What this says about my audience:
• This says that all my male audience only happened to take the survey, which is why its so biased as it is now, therefore it looks as
though my products are going to appeal to males more than females.
• How will your product appeal to this audience:
• My product will appeal to my audience as I can make my product more masculine so that my audience enjoy my product more. My
product will also appeal to my audience because I will be able to specify my masculine audiences needs and make things accordingly to
that.
Audience research
• Observation:
• My observation of this question is that my audience is made up of people above the age of 16.
• What this says about my audience:
• This says my audience are interested in different things as the age rating changes between a couple of years meaning some may be more mature
than others so they may like a more formal or an informal product instead.
• How will your product appeal to this audience:
• My product will appeal to my audience as I will make sure I Include both formal/informal language and image styles in my products, so that it applies
to all audiences. I will also ask what kind of content and what kind of genre those particular ages like so I can incorporate that into my products.
Audience research
• Observation:
• My observation of this question is that my audience are 50/50 between two of my options.
• What this says about my audience:
• This says that my audience is interested in two of my options, which is good as I will be able to incorporate both of these things into my work. It also says my
audience didn’t like one of my other options, implying that I should not include that. It could also possible say that my audience aren’t that creative as they haven’t
really given me another viable option.
• How will your product appeal to this audience:
• My product will appeal to my audience because I will make sure that I add both answers that my audience have mentioned into my magazine, I will also not add the
other option that hasn’t been chosen because my audience have decided that they don’t think it’s a great idea.
Audience research
• Observation:
• My observation of this particular question is that 100% of people who took this survey wanted new games to be shown.
• What this says about my audience:
• This says that my audience has no interest in anything else apart from having new games in. This also says that my audience are not interested in
having an old game or both an old and a new game. This also says that my audience are a fan of new and don’t really like old material.
• How will your product appeal to this audience:
• My product will appeal to my audience as I will include a newer game as my main magazine review. I will also to appeal to my audience not include
both the two other options being shown, as it was clearly stated that my audience prefer “A new one” option.
Audience research
• Observation:
• My observation of this question is that there was a 50/50 split between what my audience wanted.
• What this says about my audience:
• This says my audience want both things incorporated into my logo. This also says that my audience like simple and not complex designs, as they don’t want to feel
overwhelmed and confused perhaps?
• How will your product appeal to this audience:
• My product will appeal to this audience by myself including the things my audience are informing myself to include, so I will put the suggested things into my logo. I
will also not include the other options that are not mentioned, as that doesn’t seem sensible to do, if my audience don’t want it.
Audience research
• Observation:
• This observation shows that my audience have answered my survey question, with two helpful responses.
• What this says about my audience:
• This says that my audience are helpful and are mature, as they have given me serious responses and helpful responses that I will most likely use. It also shows more
audience are cooperative and willing to help, as the survey question didn’t have to be answered.
• How will your product appeal to this audience:
• This will appeal to my audience because I have two great questions that I can use in my interview when questioning my peers about my topic in hand. It also will
appeal to my audience because I’ll be asking the questions that they want me to ask, instead of myself, so I’m helping/educating them and letting them feel involved,
Audience research
• Observation:
• My observation of this question is that I have a 50/50 split between two answers.
• What this says about my audience:
• This says that my audience is interested in two of my options that I have put forward. It also says that my audience prefer brighter colours and enjoy
lighter things rather than the dark colour schemes not no one has answered with.
• How will your product appeal to this audience:
• My product will appeal to this audience as I will include the theme styles that my audience want me to use, so that my audience will like how it looks
and enjoy the well lit colours that they have suggested.
Audience research
• Observation:
• My observation of this question is like previous ones in that it is even with the readings, 50/50.
What this says about my audience:
• This says that my audience likes both things mentioned, it also says that my audience are more picture factual than they are writing. As it seems as
though they would rather have pictures and a bit of writing, than big clumps.
How will your product appeal to this audience:
• My product will appeal to this particular audience as I will make sure that I include both writing and pictures in the same amount as that can kill two
birds with one stone in this instance. I will also make sure my product does not include any big chunks of writing either as my audience haven’t stated
that they won’t that.
Audience research
• Observation:
• My observation of this question is that 100% of people chose Action/adventure.
• What this says about my audience:
• This says that my audience is clearly interested in seeing action/adventure being incorporated in my product rather than any other option shown. It also shows that
my audience favour action/adventure rather than the other genres I have stated as well.
• How will your product appeal to this audience:
• My product will appeal to this audience as the action/adventure genre of game will be my favoured choice in choosing the correct game, due to my audiences
decision. My product will also appeal as I won’t include the other options within my product as my audience don’t want/feel that I need to add that genre in.
Audience research
• Observation: Here is shown that I have been given two Reponses in this particular question. One that is taken serious and
the other that I’m assuming is a joke.
What this says about my audience:
• This says that my some of my audience are slightly immature and haven’t really been as useful as I would of liked, this also says that
some of my audience is also helpful in giving in me a useful response, allowing me to gather the idea and perhaps use it. It also says that
my audience in this particular instance haven’t really been that helpful, in helping me with this particular question.
• How will your product appeal to this audience:
• My product will appeal to this audience because I will take these responses and perhaps use them within my product.
Interviews
Interview 1
• What is you’re favourite video game?
– FIFA 17
• What games would you like to see in a video game magazine?
– Sports, Action and Horror games
• Who is your favourite video game developer?
– EA
• What video game would you like to see remastered?
– Modern Warfare 2
• What is the most important aspect of a game and why?
– Story Line
Interview 1
• Observation:
• My observation of my first interview is that the person is interested in sports games and appreciates the sports franchise, as he has
stated that his favourite game is FIFA 17. You would also get assumptions like this as the person has stated that there favourite game
developer is EA. The creator of FIFA, so by logic the person clearly likes his sport and FIFA games. I can also see that this particular
person likes FPS’s as he has said that he wants a “Call of duty” to be remastered. “Call of duty” being a FPS. You can also tell that he’s
interested in the likes of call of duty as he likes action and sport genres in a magazine. Although he mentions that he would like to see a
horror game featured within and he likes good narration. Which is strange as FIFA doesn’t really have a story, call of duty does but it
isn't a horror. So this particular person like a good mix of games.
• What this says about my audience:
• This says that my audience is interested in the sport, action and horror games. This could imply that my audience likes a good varied list
of games and is interested in seeing the majority of games featured within my product. It also says that my audience is more interested
in seeing sport featured within the magazine and my product. As this person in particular seems to like everything to do with football.
• How will your product appeal to this audience:
• My product won’t necessarily appeal to this kind of audience but I will try and adapt to. I could put a FIFA or another sport game
present within my magazine to show that I was listening to my audience. A call of duty would also show that this magazine is for this
particular audience. My product will also try appeal to their audience by including the action genre within this magazine. This could be
any game of that particular genre and that audience would be interested in viewing. Which is a big varied section to choose from.
Interview 2
• What is you’re favourite video game?
– Mass Effect 3
• What games would you like to see in a video game magazine?
– Action, Horror and Sports
• Who is your favourite video game developer?
– Bioware
• What video game would you like to see remastered?
– Mass Effect
• What is the most important aspect of a game and why?
– Narrative because it makes it more cinematic and immersive.
Interview 2
• Observation:
• My observation for this particular interview is that this person in particular is interested in big open world games. As he has stated that
his favourite game developer is Bioware. A game developer that specializes in those kind of games. I can also tell from observing this
particular persons interview that he is very interested in Bioware as a game developers work. I can see this because his has chosen his
favourite game to be that of the mass effect franchise, in particular Mass effect 3. This person, much like the person before has stated
that he is a big fan of action and sport and horror. This is very convenient and fortunate for myself as I don’t need to incorporate any
new things in my magazine as they are both in that of the same genre. Like I mentioned earlier this person likes Bioware and mass
effect so he has chosen to go with that for another one of the questions. This person very predictable has gone for a game needed a
story for it to be a good game, this is because mass effect is built upon its story, so I could have seen that coming before he answered.
• What this says about my audience:
• This says that my audience is very much the same as the one interview before they more or less like the same things. This is fortunate
for me as the people I have interviewed have the same interests as myself. This also says my audience likes multiple different genres
which I am pleased about as I have more of variety of games to include. This also suggests that this particular person is interested in the
role playing genre, like the games he mentions in his interview.
• How will your product appeal to this audience:
• My product will appeal to my audience because I will include the necessarily things that my audience has mentioned into my products.
Much like the previous interview I will try and incorporate all the genres that this particular audience likes. That being the horror, action
and sport. My product will also appeal to my audience because I will can place a mass effect game in my magazine for this particular
audiences benefit.
Audience Profile
Category Demographic Content to appeal to this audience
Age Range
The age range of my
products would be 15- 35 as
these are the kind of people
who would be interested
within the games I will be
reviewing.
• My particular audience will be appealed to this product as I will be
included information that will interest the age gap I have chosen.
• It would also appeal to my audience as I can use more
formal/informal language, than I may do with a younger audience.
Gender
The gender for my product
would be male and female.
• My particular audience will be best suited for both genders, as
there is nothing offensive to any of the genders in any of my
products.
• This audience would also appeal to this audience because the
game I will be showing are unisex games.
Psychographic
The psychographic of my
product will be in the
mainstream zone as it
seems to fit the category
I’m aiming for.
• My particular audience would appeal to this certain psychographic
as I feel as though my audience fit this the best out of the other
psychographics.
Social Status
The social status of my
product will be for any
social status.
• This will appeal to my audience as it will apply to more audience
members then just if I decided to restrict it to a individual social
class.
Research Evaluation
Research Evaluation
• Give an overview of how you conducted your research.
Discuss the strengths and weaknesses of each method
– Product Research
– I conducted my product research by looking at magazine covers that I thought looked good and which I wanted to bass my
product around. I thought that by choosing magazine covers with good looking quality and a lot of things going on with the
cover. So I had a lot to write about and could evaluate that magazine and understand how to make my magazine look as good as
theirs. The strengths of this method was being able to see how other products do It and how I should do it, so it looks as good as
theirs. A weakness of this would be that its quite time consuming to find products and evaluate them.
– Questionnaires
– I conducted my product research for my questionnaire by using the software survey monkey and using other questionnaire
examples. The strengths of this was the responses I gathered were somewhat helpful. The weaknesses of this was it was time
consuming and annoying to create.
– Interviews
– I conducted my product research by researching interviews I’d found online, over social sites such as “YouTube”. I also
researched interviews that
Research Evaluation
– What sort of a response did you get?
– I got a mostly negative response from my questionnaire but positive bits shone throughout. A few of my answered questions
were answered immaturely and not honestly or helpful, which was really frustrating in pleasing my audience, as I didn’t know
what things would please my audience because of this. Although the negative responses I received were only on a couple of
questions and didn’t seem to affect my whole questionnaire. I think as well why I thought my response was negative was
because I only got 2 responses, which restricted my view on the people who answered my question. I think if a few more people
answered my questionnaire I think my opinion may have been different. On the other side though there were some great
responses and I did end up getting some really useful responses, to which helped me in putting some of those ideas into my
products.
– How did you distribute your survey? Give an advantage and a disadvantage
• I distributed my survey via sharing it on social media and asking people in my class weather they could fill it in foe me. Unfortunately
people in my class had other things to do and ever really got time to do it. So admittedly it probably wasn't the best method to get my
questionnaire out there and looking back on it I probably should of found a better way. Although getting it out on social media got me
the two replies that did the survey, so if I was to do the survey again, I’d probably try and get it out on social media a lot more and to
more social media platforms, rather than just one.

  • 2. Existing Product This is a game magazine that follows the theme and cinematic of the idea I’m interested within. I love the background of this cover and the color scheme that is presented with it. The yellow writing and the dark scheme is there because black and yellow is the main theme of the move "Star Wars” and this is what particular game they are showcasing. The mast head of this magazine is very edgy and jagged, which is reminiscent of the name of the magazine, obviously intentional. The mast head is also transparent and see through indicating that the main cover image in the magazine is the most important thing stated within the magazine, as the mast head is purposely illustrating the image behind is more important than the title. The amber color light presented within the title is also quite cautious looking and gives the aurora of the magazine quite a danger look, which I like as it could symbolize the character as bad. The selling line of this magazine Is very persuasive as it mentions the fact that the edition is “special”. Enticing its audience into understanding that the product is limited and because of themselves purchasing it as they feel privileged as its quoted as being “special”. The products trademark underneath the mast head is really effective and although may not be the truth it still instructs the audience that they must be if stated on their magazine. Looking at the center piece writing we are stated with the name of the game and a little slogan underneath. Although the writings quite small this just states the importance of the image, showing that just seeing the image tells you what game it is, its that famous. The writing also aligns perfectly with the characters mask/helmet. The subtitle underneath the “Star Wars Battlefront” Is a rhetorical question asking the audience their opinions on the question and also prompting the audience to open and read in to find out. The writing shown at the bottom left and right of the magazine are advertisements, unfortunately I’m unable to see the advertisements shown but its clear to see that they follow the same color scheme of that of the cover. The circle shown in the bottom is a really cool way of indicating the issue number and like the rest of the magazine it follows the same color pattern but still manages to stand out from the rest.
  • 3. Existing ProductThis is a game magazine and is very similar to the design that I will be wanting to produce. The style of image represented within the image is in my opinion really well done. As the background is expertly cinematic and the rest of that cinematic theme shows throughout. The darkish colour scheme, like the background, fits really well as it goes well with every shade of colour they use in this magazine. The effects of the magazine is really cool as well. It’s a image within an image as you can make out as If its very important in order to this particular magazine. Noticing as well that this whole magazine focuses on one game implying that this game must be important or be new. The use of lighting is really well done in this magazine as well, as it starts of really light in the top right hand corner but gradually gets darker passing diagonally to the bottom left. Which perhaps means some evil and good between the two characters. The masthead of this magazine, showcasing its logo and boldly telling anyone who made the magazine. Interestingly enough the mast head stands out more than the title of the game. The titles font is seen throughout, so that everything shown Is relevant to this particular magazine. In my opinion though the use of the fonts colours could have been improved on. As looking at the font on the left hand side you can’t really make out the top red parts and for the white parts shown underneath the red bits they are equally as hard to read. I think the layout of this magazine is really good and it connotes well with the look of the guys blade whose stood at the front. Speaking about the layout of the magazine I like how the information is diagonal to each other, informations on the left than the right than the left. I think this is a great idea as it isn’t bunching all the information together and making it hard to read such cramped information. Whilst with this one its sparse and easy to read what's going on, minus the colour of the font. Looking in the bottom right hand corner you’ll notice there's a barcode, the barcode adds a lot of professionalism tend for me it looks better on the front than the back. This product is interested by its audience because of the game cover for a start, its visually beautiful and excellently laid out, another reason would be the games on the left included, meaning that this game has variety and doesn’t just stick to advertising one game. As I’d guess audience members want a game that includes multiple games than just the one.
  • 4. Existing Product This a magazine product made from Xbox , that is what I myself are wanting to create. I like the magazine idea of this, as it is out there it is bold and really strikes the eye of the person viewing this particular magazine. The person presented on the front is obviously connected to the game as the title of the game is connected to the man, meaning he could be icon of the game? The “MW3” shown is very big and is the biggest and brightest thing on the page this is to represent the fact that it is the most important thing about the magazine and I really like how they have done this, as it looks great. The rest of the magazine also fits in with the main color of the title of the game. So everything with the magazine follows the theme of the main game being advertised for the magazine. The main headline for the magazine is big and bold but is out shunned by the game title which I will be sure to put into my main magazine. In the right of the magazine you can see a big green plug that is there to second the main title of the game magazine. Once you’ve read the main title your eyes go straight towards the plug, as it’s the next biggest and the next colorful from the main cover art. This like the main cover art is telling you about a new game that will be featuring in the magazine, but it’s more factual and isn’t really reviewing the game but telling you about the certain game comparison to others or just facts about the game. I like the up lighting on the character and composition of the background featured in this magazine. As it looks faded, same with the font. The lighting makes the game look very dark but in theory the magazine is very light due to the luminous green choice of color presented throughout the magazine. On the left there is a little preview of a game illuminated in the same font as the rest of magazine. I like this as the language used is very intriguing and makes you want to read more. It uses a sense of persuasion within it, using a rhetoric question to wonder the answer of that question. The main headline of the magazine that being the big Xbox logo. A bit of it is cut off so you can’t read all of it but that’s what is so interesting about it. As you don’t need to be able to read it all as you know the companies name and you know the familiarity of it, so its basically telling its audience the names not important here is what is.
  • 5. Existing Product https://www.youtube.com/watch?v= z88tlFKdp-k This is a interview for IGN and is similar to the kind of audio interview I would go for and want to create. The interview is very professional but remains casual at the same time. The language used within the interview is very informal, which targets their audience of 12-25. The interview is mainly visual though as a interview I will be doing will be mainly audio based and you won’t be able to see anything whilst viewing the interview. The logo of this programme is good and contrasts well with the rest of the theme of the whole interview. The interviewer when interviewing the person does refer to himself via the name of the show so, this is what intend to do with my interview. The interview was in a studio, with a very gaming based setting. The studio was made and looked really well, On the companies part I think this was a great idea and gave the interview more interesting. The lighting used throughout this interview was creatively done, as without the light binding the camera, it lit everyone's faces perfectly, giving the viewers a perfect chance to see the interview in great quality. The composition of this interview was very well done. As the layout of the planning ran really smooth and felt as though it was a couple of people just hanging out and chatting to each other. The angles In this interview were done well. As the interview starts off with a wide shot of the two talking to each other, every time one of them is talking solo, the camera goes into a close up of them, which I think is a great idea as it engages the audience and makes us feel as though were actually there watching. In the background there is also pictures of games and other greatly attractive props, just adding to the things to look at within this interview. The colours within this interview is mainly focused around the colour blue, due to the fact that “IGN” is doing an interview with the ex- PlayStation boss and PlayStations main colour and main theme being the colour blue. The mise en scene is really well done, as I’ve mentioned earlier about the props looking very eye-catching and well ordered and placed throughout the interview. For me adding a few details such as this, just makes the interview that bit more professional and great to watch. It will make the audience want to watch it because it targets its gaming audience perfectly and everything included any gaming fan would be stupid not to like.
  • 6. Existing Product Compared to the newer magazines the old ones are quite similar in design and follow the same cinematic theme within them which I think is really cool. The colours of font of this magazine clearly reflect the characters and the location of those characters as, the place is hot so the colours are there to resemble that which I think is a cool idea to broadcast. It makes the audience want to buy it because of its eye striking appeal and its interesting design it has to it. Its insanely colourful so it incites the viewer in to look at it closer and read more features and eventually buy it. I really like the heading and how the font is produced, it makes the product look bold and stand out over the rest of the magazine but it compliments the colour scheme of the magazine. The design of the font is also made to symbolise that of the console which adds a lot of power to the magazine in my opinion. The boldness and the design of the title of the game that is advertising itself upon the magazine is really cool and looks impressive. The colours blended throughout are interesting and fit the look as the character on the right, to which they both compliment each other, like the majority of the magazine. The sub title of underneath the title of the game is witty and allows you a little insight into how the game plays. The cover lines include a little section suggesting what other games are a sub to the main game presented on the front. These cover lines contrast really well with the black box, acting as if it’s a plug. The red title of it complimenting the black background really well and that goes for the white writing complimenting the black and the red. The Nintendo bar at the bottom adds such authenticity and professionalism. I like the little writing as well, as another little insight towards the contents of the magazine. Once again the red and yellow colour scheme is being showcased throughout and its seen even clearer on this part. Like I mentioned earlier the audience would want to buy a magazine such as this, due to the colour and the design and the amount of these going on. The look of its great. Plus the front cover doesn’t include that much information within it, which is another plus, especially for a game cover, as you don’t want the front cover to overwhelm your audience with blocks and blocks of writing. All you need is a little information telling you what's included and a picture of the game that’s being showcased. To which this game does perfectly.
  • 7. Research Analysis • What common features do the researched products have? • The common features that the researched products have is that they are all very organised and well structured in how they are presented. They all also include similar colour schemes and dark textures presented throughout. They also all include a clear idea of what their product is advertising which is good. As with the magazines I have reviewed they all have a clear idea of what games are on and what is their main game they are advertising and what is connected to what. Another common feature is the layout of each of the magazine covers. With the masthead at the top of the page and whatever game is being advertised on the front cover, that’s the theme of the rest of the magazine. This is shown throughout all the magazines on my research. They all include a website link to their supposed website, linking the viewer to more information. The website link Is used on all magazine covers, not just for looking professional but for redirected the viewer to the magazine on a online view, so you can read it online and in hand. Another common feature is that they have all used their logos to support the masthead and included a plug to advertise and show case something that’s within the magazine. Another common feature is the colour scheme of each of them is generally quite dark apart from the oldest one. The magazines that are most recent though with a almost black colour scheme, still manage to stand out as much as the oldest one with the brightest colours standing throughout it. • What aspects of the research will you include within your on work? • The aspects of the research that I will include within my work is pretty much all of it as I think all of what I have researched is a great example of what I should be making my magazine like and my interview about as all what was being shown and what was being said was all really good stuff and if any of my products look like they selected few I have shown I will be happy. Another aspect of my research I would like to include is the website link. As I think it’s a great idea to showcase my website and doing so makes my work look miles better and more professional. Another aspect I will include will be a dark colour scheme as I like how it goes with pretty much every colour, which means I could experiment with multiple fonts and colours as the dark scheme fits more or less everything. I think also including a plug would be an excellent idea, as It allows me to advertise something that's going to be in the magazine without overwhelming my audience with too much blocky information. It also adds a bit of character too my magazine as well. I also think I will take the idea of putting the logo up with my mast head as I think it makes the magazine look a lot more authentic and correct.

It could also possible say that my audience aren’t that creative as they haven’t really given me another viable option. • How will your product appeal to this audience: • My product will appeal to my audience because I will make sure that I add both answers that my audience have mentioned into my magazine, I will also not add the other option that hasn’t been chosen because my audience have decided that they don’t think it’s a great idea.

  • 20. Interview 1 • What is you’re favourite video game? – FIFA 17 • What games would you like to see in a video game magazine? – Sports, Action and Horror games • Who is your favourite video game developer? – EA • What video game would you like to see remastered? – Modern Warfare 2 • What is the most important aspect of a game and why? – Story Line
  • 21. Interview 1 • Observation: • My observation of my first interview is that the person is interested in sports games and appreciates the sports franchise, as he has stated that his favourite game is FIFA 17. You would also get assumptions like this as the person has stated that there favourite game developer is EA. The creator of FIFA, so by logic the person clearly likes his sport and FIFA games. I can also see that this particular person likes FPS’s as he has said that he wants a “Call of duty” to be remastered. “Call of duty” being a FPS. You can also tell that he’s interested in the likes of call of duty as he likes action and sport genres in a magazine. Although he mentions that he would like to see a horror game featured within and he likes good narration. Which is strange as FIFA doesn’t really have a story, call of duty does but it isn't a horror. So this particular person like a good mix of games. • What this says about my audience: • This says that my audience is interested in the sport, action and horror games. This could imply that my audience likes a good varied list of games and is interested in seeing the majority of games featured within my product. It also says that my audience is more interested in seeing sport featured within the magazine and my product. As this person in particular seems to like everything to do with football. • How will your product appeal to this audience: • My product won’t necessarily appeal to this kind of audience but I will try and adapt to. I could put a FIFA or another sport game present within my magazine to show that I was listening to my audience. A call of duty would also show that this magazine is for this particular audience. My product will also try appeal to their audience by including the action genre within this magazine. This could be any game of that particular genre and that audience would be interested in viewing. Which is a big varied section to choose from.
  • 22. Interview 2 • What is you’re favourite video game? – Mass Effect 3 • What games would you like to see in a video game magazine? – Action, Horror and Sports • Who is your favourite video game developer? – Bioware • What video game would you like to see remastered? – Mass Effect • What is the most important aspect of a game and why? – Narrative because it makes it more cinematic and immersive.
  • 23. Interview 2 • Observation: • My observation for this particular interview is that this person in particular is interested in big open world games. As he has stated that his favourite game developer is Bioware. A game developer that specializes in those kind of games. I can also tell from observing this particular persons interview that he is very interested in Bioware as a game developers work. I can see this because his has chosen his favourite game to be that of the mass effect franchise, in particular Mass effect 3. This person, much like the person before has stated that he is a big fan of action and sport and horror. This is very convenient and fortunate for myself as I don’t need to incorporate any new things in my magazine as they are both in that of the same genre. Like I mentioned earlier this person likes Bioware and mass effect so he has chosen to go with that for another one of the questions. This person very predictable has gone for a game needed a story for it to be a good game, this is because mass effect is built upon its story, so I could have seen that coming before he answered. • What this says about my audience: • This says that my audience is very much the same as the one interview before they more or less like the same things. This is fortunate for me as the people I have interviewed have the same interests as myself. This also says my audience likes multiple different genres which I am pleased about as I have more of variety of games to include. This also suggests that this particular person is interested in the role playing genre, like the games he mentions in his interview. • How will your product appeal to this audience: • My product will appeal to my audience because I will include the necessarily things that my audience has mentioned into my products. Much like the previous interview I will try and incorporate all the genres that this particular audience likes. That being the horror, action and sport. My product will also appeal to my audience because I will can place a mass effect game in my magazine for this particular audiences benefit.
  • 24. Audience Profile Category Demographic Content to appeal to this audience Age Range The age range of my products would be 15- 35 as these are the kind of people who would be interested within the games I will be reviewing. • My particular audience will be appealed to this product as I will be included information that will interest the age gap I have chosen. • It would also appeal to my audience as I can use more formal/informal language, than I may do with a younger audience. Gender The gender for my product would be male and female. • My particular audience will be best suited for both genders, as there is nothing offensive to any of the genders in any of my products. • This audience would also appeal to this audience because the game I will be showing are unisex games. Psychographic The psychographic of my product will be in the mainstream zone as it seems to fit the category I’m aiming for. • My particular audience would appeal to this certain psychographic as I feel as though my audience fit this the best out of the other psychographics. Social Status The social status of my product will be for any social status. • This will appeal to my audience as it will apply to more audience members then just if I decided to restrict it to a individual social class.
  • 26. Research Evaluation • Give an overview of how you conducted your research. Discuss the strengths and weaknesses of each method – Product Research – I conducted my product research by looking at magazine covers that I thought looked good and which I wanted to bass my product around. I thought that by choosing magazine covers with good looking quality and a lot of things going on with the cover. So I had a lot to write about and could evaluate that magazine and understand how to make my magazine look as good as theirs. The strengths of this method was being able to see how other products do It and how I should do it, so it looks as good as theirs. A weakness of this would be that its quite time consuming to find products and evaluate them. – Questionnaires – I conducted my product research for my questionnaire by using the software survey monkey and using other questionnaire examples. The strengths of this was the responses I gathered were somewhat helpful. The weaknesses of this was it was time consuming and annoying to create. – Interviews – I conducted my product research by researching interviews I’d found online, over social sites such as “YouTube”. I also researched interviews that
  • 27. Research Evaluation – What sort of a response did you get? – I got a mostly negative response from my questionnaire but positive bits shone throughout. A few of my answered questions were answered immaturely and not honestly or helpful, which was really frustrating in pleasing my audience, as I didn’t know what things would please my audience because of this. Although the negative responses I received were only on a couple of questions and didn’t seem to affect my whole questionnaire. I think as well why I thought my response was negative was because I only got 2 responses, which restricted my view on the people who answered my question. I think if a few more people answered my questionnaire I think my opinion may have been different. On the other side though there were some great responses and I did end up getting some really useful responses, to which helped me in putting some of those ideas into my products. – How did you distribute your survey? Give an advantage and a disadvantage • I distributed my survey via sharing it on social media and asking people in my class weather they could fill it in foe me. Unfortunately people in my class had other things to do and ever really got time to do it. So admittedly it probably wasn't the best method to get my questionnaire out there and looking back on it I probably should of found a better way. Although getting it out on social media got me the two replies that did the survey, so if I was to do the survey again, I’d probably try and get it out on social media a lot more and to more social media platforms, rather than just one.
