2. Title:...Mosh!
Rock 4U
Here are some names I
came up with in a brain
storm upon deciding on one
relevant for my magazine
final title.
The name has to be closely bound to an iconic set object, event or
thing surrounding the genre of rock in music. I wanted it to be short
snappy but effective, and to the point.
I Decided to use....
Mosh!
I feel this is a well known event that takes place during
heavy metal concerts and has a great reputation along side
hard core fans of ‘rock’. Its simple, effective and snappy. It
idolises rock as a word and among the younger generation is
a great source of debate and often a thrilling experience
when you take part in one, like this magazine will be. The
word priorities all the aspects I want my magazine to be a
success in, excitement, entertainment and fun.
As shown the devils
horns in this image. We
can clearly see mosh
pits are very common in
rock concerts and gigs
and people can relate
to them. Mosh pits
appeal to the really
enthusiastic, die hard
fans who love loud
music and are willing to
try anything along as its
heavy and has a great
riff.
3. Fonts
The ‘mosh!’ font I have concluded with help of other designs
and analysis...
Font 1, was called too drunk to ****
Font 2, was called slave only
dreams to be king
Font 3, was called star avenue
Font 4, was called peinture fraiche
An member of the public having his say on the
fonts I have came down to, its pros and cons.
This is alright to read but it has
white cracks coming in touching
the lettering making it harder to
read.
This is quite clear expect from
how the letters are at different
levels.
It is very clear to read and I
personally could read this from a
distance.
It is not really that clear to read
4. Fonts
In the new, rock magazine Mosh! it will feature the
‘was called slave only dreams to be king’ font. (font 2)
This font cam across being the most dynamic and
interesting in its appearance. The letters are distorted
across the fonts feature and is exciting to view. The
font yet black looks vibrant and bold. The letters
standout early despite its unusual shape.
The stamp like appearance will appeal to younger
generation that I am looking to set as my target
audience. This is because its got a modern style and
the text looks like its been dashed on aggressively, this
could suggest the like to rock being heavy, strong
willed music and passionate. The text framed work
appeals to my ideas regarding making the magazine
look quite dashing and exciting , therefore I will be
using this on articles to follow.
5. The Magazines genre…
Mosh! Will be a fully functional ‘Rock’ based magazine in close competition with
Karrang and MOJO.
I am to stick to the genre alternative rock followed by new heavy metal bands to the
world. I will not feature bands from beyond the 20th century as I want to primarily
focus on new, exciting bands rising to fame, and other successful artists in the time
period this magazine works in.
I look to feature the following artists,
-Fallout boy
-Royal blood
-Glory hammer
-Green day
-Foo fighters
-Metallica
-Prodigy
this is because I personally enjoy there music, I feel I can use my passion in this area
to develop creative stories articles and make the advertisement of these bands extra
special. They also strongly fit the category of music I am looking for and based on the
surveys I took out, rock came out as most popular among younger audiences.
6. Cover Price…
Based on my market research and Surveys completed I have
decided on a overall price of….
£2.99 !
This sum in my opinion for a monthly magazine seems very
reasonable, its not too expensive for the lower disposable
income my target audience statistically proven, appear to
have.
In the graph u can see most people would be happy to pay
this price for a magazine like Mosh! And I have specifically
targeted the lower price in this bracket (£2.26-£5)
Its not £3 but £2.99 because it’s a way I can philological
price they predict and make it seem much lower in the value
that it actually is, makes consumers feel they are buying a
product at a profitable price.
7. Frequency of publication…
Mosh! Will be a monthly release so 12 copies a year.
This is because I want to be able to connect with the younger
generation and provide a quality magazine of there taste.
Because most younger people and teens are not in work or
currently have a low disposable income, the pricing will be a
suitable standard, however the month release means they don't
have to spend as much on regular copies. Thus feeling they are
making a good profit from the content they receive and overall
costs
In my survey it showed more people liked to do a monthly buy so I
am trying to connect with the majority's opinion regarding
purchases.
10. Sample Images and drafts…Front Cover
Here are my designs in production of MOSH!. I
concluded my market research, planning and
preparation with 3 individual designs that all
share qualities and defaults. I used a kerrang!
Front cover as the baseline of the sketch up
because I fell this brand has a similar image
and idealistic view of music I intend to
recreate in my final product. I assessed
important factors regarding visual impression
and the importance of setting up a branded
magazine that meets the target audience
needs a decided to use design 1.
Here is the basis of my designs where I
assessed the Cover of kerrang! And made a
mock up of boxes containing the cover tags
and techniques that identify the terminology
used in professional standard design
procedures.
11. Here are the following designs I had completed to specification of the factors
concerning my magazine (entertainment value, professionalism, genre etc.) they all
follow different motives I could execute in Microsoft office publisher.
12. Sample Images and drafts…Contents
• Kerrang! Contents uses a
very detailed layout to
connote its range of
information and in depth
articles. The page is very
colourful and I will
replicate this in the
following Contents page I
am to complete based on
this good exemplar. To
the right we see a
simplified version
contents page I have
constructed using the
baseline of the pages
borderlines, features and
images. From this I can
identify key roles in how
the contents page is
effective and assess its
use and availability to do
in my magazine.
13. Sample Images and drafts…Contents designs
The following Designs were constructed in Microsoft publisher and reflect 3 idealistic
views I wish my contents page to be presented as. It will reflect a range of engaging
colour schemes and bold fonts to compliment my stories and its articles.
Design 2 is the final product of contents pre-production and experimentation. I feel
it’s a exotic and different layout that will standout on the page. The splash image
intends to compliment all other features in a flowing representation through
similarity of colours and fonts. Mosh! Fans can expect excitement from its
informative page as its visually eye catching and reflects the style my front cover
and rest of magazine intends to follow.
14. Sample Images and drafts…2 page spread
The2 page spread is a very important magazine component, having A3 is relative size of
space to use this often occupies the magazines big articles and stories. Therefore
readers will expect to find the best a brand has to offer in respect of quality hen
reading the magazines top article. Its very important therefore that the 2 page spread
meets guidelines and specific criteria to as effective and professional as the one below
(Kerrang! 2PS-2 page spread)
Double page spreads often occupy articles
and stories such as;
Events
Interviews
Photo shoots
Chat rooms
Based on this information I intend to make a 2
page spread which incorporates a Artists
Interview, including a Question and answer
based article. I Would also like to involve
Questions provided by the public via social
media that the artist will have responded too.
15. Sample Images and drafts…2 page spread
basic design of
Kerrang!’s two page
spread shown on
previous slide.
16. Sample Images and drafts…2 page spread
The final out come
of planning and
designing my
overall 2 page
spread plan. This is
what I want to
achieve in layout
and will strive to
use this design as a
basis of my
magazine article.

I also got tickets to attend An event at Fibbers where live act Shed
Seven performed. I was able to collect a good source of images
and I aim to use this experience as a baseline of my 2PS (2 page
spread) article. I think I can use this to create a more exciting and
factual Event review which is required In this section of the
magazine. The image swill bring to life the articles reliability and
altogether the double page spread should connote a professional
status to which it has been completed
