This document discusses potential fonts to use for a print production. It analyzes several fonts and their suitability based on the connotations and themes they may evoke. One font is described as formal with neat handwriting, linking it to the ideas of romance explored in the music video. Another font is said to be commonly associated with romance due to its use in restaurants, though it may provide too much contrast given the theme of a complicated break-up. A third "stereotypical" font risks making the demographic seem too young. In the end, the document recommends a font with lines that project continuity and is inspired by psychedelic art, linking it to the illusory nature of love depicted in the music video.
2. This font has a very formal style to it. This type of font replicates the handwriting
that is very neat, not only this but the slick finish to each letter gives the font a
romantic appeal. Creating a direct link to the music video, and how this idea of
romance is explored throughout it. Not only does the font give this potential aspect,
but it also replicates the idea that the album/ music video is a handwritten diary
entry/ story.
The name of this font alone suggests connotations of romance; from which the
audience can link it to the relationship of the two characters in the music video.
However, this sort of font is common within more classy restaurants; from which the
connotations are romance, because restaurants can be very intimate places, as it’s
usually the place for a first date etc. The simplicity of this font provides a contrast to
the album, as the single on the album explores a complicated break-up.
This font can be interpreted as a more stereotypical, ‘cheesy’ so-to-speak type of
font. Which instantly gives the message to the audience of what they can expect
from the album. However, this font is more commonly associated with a much
younger audience, as the font itself (as well as other variations) is often found in
media texts for the audience type. I don’t think it’s likely I will be using this font as it
has the potential to decrease the age of my demographic.
3. This font provides a real contrast to the other fonts I have analysed. The boldness of
the font really makes the text stand out, which could be good for brand identity for
my artist, the boldness draws the eyes of the potential consumer. Not only this, but
the text itself has some gaps and the text seems rather unfilled, with pieces missing.
This could be a visual representation of a link to my music video as the song and
video explore a fragmented and unfulfilling relationship.
This font has an immediate downfall, which is just the text is not as clear. However,
this could prove to be a positive as, if put on my poster, could force the potential
consumer to stop and try to read it. The main feature of this font is the lines within
the text that replicate a sketch-type idea. This sketch-type idea can be consumed as
a visual represent this idea that the album/ music video is a sketch drawn by the
artist, creating a more personal connection between the audience/consumer and the
artist.
This font is the font I am most likely to include on my print production. The lines that
create the text project this idea of continuity, and this is a key idea in my music video
as the relationship explores this idea of how long a relationship will last. The font
also has inspiration from the psychedelic art movement, not necessarily in terms of
shape and colour, but instead this idea of illusion, which is key in my music video, as
this idea that love and relationships are an illusion is a common theme.
