Costumes
1. Plan Costumes
Harry Ames (Male Character)
The costuming for Harry’s character will be simplistic to the generation – the reason
being that it will be relatable, and the male audience would easily be able to put
themselves in his shoes and grasp the narrative from his perspective. He will wear a
long sleeve shirt rolled up (being branded yet not visibly branded as it could cause
copyright issues). This will connote that he is relatively ‘out-going’ and eager, due to
the revealed arms. The buttons on the shirt could connote how his ‘out-going’
personality is ‘put on’ and isn’t who he truly is. Inferring that he is trying to comply
with the modern generation to give himself a false image that is considered
‘necessary’. The shirts closed buttons will represent how strong of a grasp he has on
this false image; therefore, we will unbutton one or two buttons which will give the
impression that he is struggling to hold on. He will wear blue – rolled up – chino jeans
with white socks, inferring that he has an ‘edge’ to him (lacking a basic personality)
but with control over his ‘wild side’. He will also wear Adidas trainers, again, keeping
up to trend.
Yasmin Braithwaite (Female Character)
Yasmin’s costume will represent a binary opposite meaning yet will identify with
some aspects of Harry’s costume to generate an idea that the two characters are too
similar *. Yasmin will wear a pair of ripped denim dungarees, with the rips inferring
how her ‘outgoing’ personality isn’t put on and it pushes out from any restriction. As
well as how, like Harry’s costuming, she complies with the modern generation in
terms of style due to the proliferating popularity of dungarees as ‘casual’ clothing.
She will also wear – under her dungarees – a lightly coloured top, connoting
innocence and purity. The tops simplicity will give the impression that she doesn’t
need to put on an image, whereas Harry’s character does, overall developing two
characters who represent the same image but in different ways.
*With the newtons cradle being a motif in the video, representing the couple’s relationship
and how they constantly repel each other. With the idea surrounding magnetic pull in the
sense that two ‘like’ poles repel – applying this idea to the physics behind a newtons cradle.
