2. This typeface provides a reinforcement of the key theme of our piece, love and affection. Symbolized
through the hearts in the letters, it connotes emotions that are also created through the lyrics and visuals
of the music video. This font evidently displays the more positive and blissful parts of the relationship;
which although we have scenes of romance and affection, could act as a contrast to the unhappy ending
of the relationship. In relation to the logistics of the typeface. The ascenders and descenders are
accentuated suggesting extravagance and elegance; emphasizing the aesthetics of the characters. This
typeface provides a rounded style, insinuating a sense of softness and comfort; similarly the thin
characters create a hand written style, reinforcing this feeling of reassurance and tranquility. In
summary, this typeface would be effective in my print productions as it connotes the key theme of the
music video and song; maintaining continuity in all aspects of the piece.
This typeface would prove to be very effective in my print production as it follows a handwritten
style; connoting simplicity to independence. This style correlates perfectly with our artist being
independent and low budget. The sans serif style is shown through the consistency of strokes
within the typeface and also the short ascenders and descenders with the lack of elegance, this
consistency is maintained through the width of the stems. The handwritten style further
reinforces the main theme, love, as it's in the style that a love letter would be written in.
Furthermore, the handwritten style connotes personality and rawness which is a typical
convention of the Indie/Singer Songwriter genre. Overall, this typeface would be an effective
style as it displays a handwritten format that perfectly adheres to the genre of music.
This typeface contradicts and contrasts the theme of the music video, song and print
production. But, through this contrast, it adds complexity and depth; connoting feelings of
distress, ambiguity and fear, this typeface could be seen to symbolizes the dark side of
relationships. Along with the comparison of love being a game; this comparison determines
there must be a loser; when incorporated to my piece it could represent how the male character,
of whom we follow, is this loser that feels these emotions the font connotes. Furthermore, this
typeface challenges all Indie conventions and looks entirely out of place. However, when
applied to the symbolism this font poses powerful and effective implications. This typeface is
serif shown through the consistency of the stems and spacing. Overall, although this font would
have a substantial symbolic meaning it fails to adhere to genre conventions and would look
significantly out of place; especially when attempting to formulate a brand identy.
3. This typeface could be incorporated into my print productions as a relatively safe and simple option; this hand
drawn style maintains a simplicity that is certainly key within the indie genre; connoting comfort and
recognizability. Similarly, the characters remain in a lower case which is certainly an element I would like to
incorporate within my piece, based on the grounds it suggests informality and personality. Being a serif style it
reinforces this lucidity and translatability for all audiences, including our chosen demographic. Unlike other
fonts analyzed, this typeface has limited symbolic value aside from its evidential clarity of meaning and simple
style linking with our conventional linear narrative. Overall, this typeface displays a clear and understanding
font, that would turn the attention to the imagery of the print production; however, it provides no symbolic
meaning which I feel is key within our piece.
This typeface incorporates an eroded and urban decay look; through the seemingly damaged letters, linking with
the symbolism of love's negative implications of heartbreak and sadness. The symbolic nature of this typeface
increases its effectiveness, especially applied to my imagery of urban decay and perished purity in my print
production piece. With relatively tame ascenders and descenders, this typeface uses a distortion and rotation of
individual letters. This is effectiveness as it resonates uniqueness and individuality; further linking to our theme of
love and how relationships have imperfections; just as this typeface does. In addition, the spines and stems of
some letters are deteriorating, reinforcing this symbolism further suggesting how a destructive or toxic
relationship can hurt you right to the core. Overall, this typeface poses a strong candidate as it incorporates
complex symbolism alongside simple and accessible typography.
This typeface provides a unique and fancy look, that symbolizes comfort and a grand
nature. This expensive and fancy look is produced through the extended and elegant
ascenders, descenders and ligature; linking in with our intertextuality influence of 'Grand
Expectations'. This link increases its complexity and meaning for the audience, which is
key in the indie genre due to the emotional and metaphoric meaning of lyrics. Interestingly,
this font has narrow spines and stems, creating an elusive and untypical atmosphere
around the typeface. In summary, this typography would be effective as it holds symbolic
value whilst maintaining a simple read, also, it uses unorthodox stems and spines of the
characters increasing its complexity to some extent.
