whopromisedto writealetteronhis behalfin anattemptto havehim released.Hewasreleased
thenlxt day. Hewasamemberof aforty-manTalibanunit,ledby Abdul kazzak,(ISN942),
thatwasformedin November2001. HesaysthattheunitreceivedmoneyandweaponsfromAl-
Qaida. Thedetaineeattendedatrainingcampoutsideof Kandahar,AF, wherethetraining
consistedof introducingpoisonintowatersystems,suicideattacksandtheuseof explosives.ln
late2001-early2}}2trJparticipatedin aconvoyescortingUsamaBin Ladin(UBL) andhis
familyto thePakistanborder.Onapproximately18October2002,hewasorderedby Abdul

Razzaktoconductafourdaymissionto SarShela,anAfghanistan/ hanianbordertown. On2l
October2002,MullahGul AhmedandMullahMuhammedShahapproachedhim in Kandahar,
AF, askinghim to work for theTaliban.His first surveillancemissionfromAhmedwasto
conductsurveillanceonKandaharAirfield. In Septemberor Octoberof 2002hewaspaidby
Ahmedto find Abdul Ghani, (ISN934)andassisthim in arocketattackontheKandahar
Airbase.AnalystNote: Detaineedescriptionwasconsistentwithdetailsof the24 October2002
rocketattackonKandaharAir Base.Hissecondmissionwasto conductsurveillanceonthe
formerresidenceof Mullah Omar,whichwasbeingusedasabasefor US forces(Firebase
Gecko).
. On 27 October2002whileconductingsurveillanceonthefirebase,hewas
questionedby aguardandreleased.Detaineeclaimsthattheguardwarnedhim notto return.
He returnedto thefirebaseonthe28thof Octoberto continuehismission.Oncein positionat
therearof thecompound,whilehewasobservingseveralAmericansrunning,hewasspottedby
securityforcesandwaspursuedbrieflybeforebeingarrestedby securityforces.Whilebeing
questioned,theguardwhohadwamedhim to stayawaythepreviousdayarrivedandreported
hispreviousencounterwith thedetainee.Thiswaswhenhewastakeninto custodyby US
forces.
