1979whenthe Sovietoccupationbeganandhis fathermovedthe family to a refugeecampin
Haripool, Pakistan(PK). Detaineedid not return to Afghanistanto fight with the mujahideen
againstthe SovietUnion dueto beingwoundedduringthe shellingof his village beforeleaving
for Pakistan.
o TrainingandActivities: Detaineereturnedto Afghanistanin approximately1993to

theair. Herealizedhemadeamistakewhenheheardairplanesoverheadandbeganto believe
theyweresoldiers.US forcesreportedthataftersecuringtheperimeter,theyrepeatedly
announcedtheirpresencein EnglishandPashtuwhentheycameunderheavyfire frommultiple
positions.USforcesreporteddetaineehidbehindwomen,threwgrenadesandallowedsome
shootersto escape.Detaineesunenderedhimselfafteranhour-longfirefightandaCloseAir
Support(CAS)missionwasinbound.DetaineewasdetainedatBagram,AF,beforetransferto
GuantanamoBay,Cuba.

o Duringdetainee'scapture,hedidnotinitially surrender.Detaineeresistedcapturefor
overanhour,firing andlobbinggrenadesatAfghanandUSforces.He surrenderedafterhearing
theinboundCAS.

Detaineewasarresteddueto hisassociationswith SaifullahRahmanMansour,aformerTaliban
commanderwithtiesto Al-QaidawholedAnti-CoalitionattackswithinthePaktiaProvinceof
Afghanistan.Mansouris knownto havesupportedAl-Qaidaafterthefall of theTalibanandled
TalibanandAl-Qaidaforcesin theShah-e-KhotvalleyduringOperationAnaconda.Detaineeis
notknownto haveparticipatedin anydirectattacksagainstUSor coalitionforces,buthe
activelyresistedcaptureduringanhourlongfire fightwith USandAfghanforcesalthoughtheir
