4) Who would be the audience for your
media product?
For my audience research I created some questions on Survey Monkey and had an
interview of a teenager who would be interested in my product. I also researched similar
music magazines by looking at their average age and class.
After looking on my survey I decided that my target audience would be females between
16-24 years old. After designing and putting the magazine together I feel the target
audience has changed a little since I started with the research. The majority of the
audience is still girls, but the content is appropriate for all genders as indie/alternative are
genres which appeal to everybody.
After analyzing my survey and interview I created a reader profile to describe the type of
person that my magazine is aimed at:
Jessica is a 18 years old girl who lives in Manchester. She is an A2 student at college where
she studies music, photography, english and psychology. She is a passionate music fan and
especially of the indie/alternative genre. Jessica plays the guitar and ukulele, and is now
trying to learn how to play the piano. When she is not at college she likes to hang out with
her friends and go for a cup of coffee or have a picnic in a park. She also likes to skate and
owns a longboard and two penny boards.
Like most people her age, Jessica likes to spend a lot of time on social mediums to
communicate with her friends, share her interest in music and also share her love for taking
pictures.
Jessica listens mostly to bands like The Killers, The 1975, Arctic Monkeys, The Smiths, Of
Monsters and Men, Imagine Dragons and Fun. She loves to read Shuffle to discover new
music and be updated on the artist and bands she likes, and also to find out more
information about new gigs and festivals.
