Evaluation
Who would be the audience for your
media product?
To find out the audience for my media product, I sent out a survey on survey monkey and the people who answered
it are people that are interested in music, mainly in the rock genre. I also did research of the readers of NME, Q and
KERRANG! I did this to find out what the readers were like of magazines similar to mine to find out how I should lay
out my magazine and what I should include to appeal to the reader. From all of that I created a reader profile to
generally describe the sort of person my magazine is aimed at. This was the result:
Jack is a 17 year old male in the ABC1 social grade who likes rock music, he is a full time student with a part time job
at weekends. In Jack’s spare time he likes to listen to music, go on the internet and use social media sites on a regular
basis, he also likes to socialise with his friends at music gigs when he has the time and money to do so. He also likes
to play sports when he can.
Jack reads a lot of magazines such as NME, Q and Kerrang and stated that he likes the way that they look.
Jack uses ITunes quite a lot to download music but states that there is always so much more music that he wants but
doesn’t have enough money to justify buying it all, so some music he just doesn’t end up getting.
When jack has the money he likes to go to festivals such as Leeds fest with his friends. He stated that a good
competition for the magazine would be tickets to festivals as it would encourage him to buy and subscribe to the
magazine.
Jack is also at the age where he wants to start learning how to drive, but the cost of insurance is a major put off and
the general cost of driving.
Jack stated that he is into fashion and quite likes clothes and try's to dress well.
From all of my research I have decided that I will create
my magazine so it will be suitable for both genders and
have no gender bias, I have done this by having gender
neutral colours and gender neutral themes throughout
the magazine, with a simple layout and colours that
aren't stereotypically linked to any gender so that it
doesn’t turn males or females away from wanting to
read it.
My magazine is aimed at people aged 16-24 so it will
have themes aimed at people of this age, advertising
festivals and music events as these are highly dominated
by people of this age. But the themes will not be limiting
to this age to make sure we don’t turn away any older
readers that might want to read the magazine. But all
themes will be based on people that age, such as the
artists featured will be people that readers in this age
range enjoy listening too.
I also have links to the popular social media sites in my
magazine such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram as
people in this age range tend to be the main users of
social media sites as they are in the peak of their social
lives and like to stay connected, so social media can be
used as a good marketing scheme to keep the readers
entertained and to help them connect with us as a
brand.

He also likes to play sports when he can. Jack reads a lot of magazines such as NME, Q and Kerrang and stated that he likes the way that they look. Jack uses ITunes quite a lot to download music but states that there is always so much more music that he wants but doesn’t have enough money to justify buying it all, so some music he just doesn’t end up getting. When jack has the money he likes to go to festivals such as Leeds fest with his friends. He stated that a good competition for the magazine would be tickets to festivals as it would encourage him to buy and subscribe to the magazine. Jack is also at the age where he wants to start learning how to drive, but the cost of insurance is a major put off and the general cost of driving. Jack stated that he is into fashion and quite likes clothes and try's to dress well.

From all of my research I have decided that I will create my magazine so it will be suitable for both genders and have no gender bias, I have done this by having gender neutral colours and gender neutral themes throughout the magazine, with a simple layout and colours that aren't stereotypically linked to any gender so that it doesn’t turn males or females away from wanting to read it. My magazine is aimed at people aged 16-24 so it will have themes aimed at people of this age, advertising festivals and music events as these are highly dominated by people of this age. But the themes will not be limiting to this age to make sure we don’t turn away any older readers that might want to read the magazine. But all themes will be based on people that age, such as the artists featured will be people that readers in this age range enjoy listening too. I also have links to the popular social media sites in my magazine such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram as people in this age range tend to be the main users of social media sites as they are in the peak of their social lives and like to stay connected, so social media can be used as a good marketing scheme to keep the readers entertained and to help them connect with us as a brand.
