Question 7: Looking back at your preliminary task (the school magazine task), what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to full prod
For my prelim magazine I went through three steps: my prelim flat plans, then my final prelim and evaluation. This contrasts hugely to my final product as I went through several steps of research, planning, developing, correcting and producing my final product. However, in both of my magazines I used flat plans: For my prelim flat plans I didn’t use any inspiration for content or structure of each of my pages. Both of these flat plans are also not as well thought out as the ones for my final product. I also only used flat plans for a front cover and contents page for this prelim magazine.
My flat plans for my first ideas of my final product were created from the research and inspiration I gathered from different magazines of the same genre. Each of my pages also has a clear structure which has come from this inspiration. I also gave a detailed analysis of each of these pages and why I had chosen to set them out in this way, where as I didn’t do this for my Prelim flat plans.
For the models I used in my prelim I didn’t do any costume or image research for the genre of magazine I was portraying. This also meant that I did not pick any specific looks or costume for this photo shoot, meaning the models I used were dressed and posing in their own way which may not have worked for my genre. However, because my magazine was made as a college magazine this consequently worked to my advantage.
However, for my final product I used my research to evaluate and plan the different costumes I would put each of my models in, evaluating each choice onto my blog. I also created model release forms and call sheets which were filled in my each of my models to give proof of the planning of my photo shoots and the permission of each of the models I used.
I also took both of my different locations of my photo shoots into consideration during my planning, creating a Recce , Risk assessment and Hazard Evaluation for each location to show evidence of my development for each photo shoot. During my prelim magazine I only used one location for one photo shoot and I didn’t document each location in a detailed way like I did for my final product.
For my final product I also used research and analysis for the different fonts I would use in my magazine and where they would be used. This was to show I had thought about how this would effect my magazine. However, in my prelim I didn’t do any research and used the same font for each piece of writing on both pages, just using different colors.  For my final product I also used my Focus group to decide what 3 color palette would appeal to my audience where as in my prelim I just chose 3 colors I felt would stand out.
While I was creating my final product I needed to make sure my product was looking how it needed to and any corrections I needed were being made. To do this I pitched a rough cut of my magazine and got feedback on post it notes from my peers and teachers. This enabled me to improve my magazine hugely and I didn’t have this advantage in my prelim because I didn’t do this rough cut.
My final prelim and product also contrast hugely. For my final product I have added an extra DPS, this makes it seem a lot more like a professional magazine. The layout and information shown in my final product also look more professional compared to my prelim magazine because of the different ways of development, production and research I used that made it easier for me to make my final product as much like a professional magazine as I felt I could where as I didn’t do this for my prelim magazine.
For my prelim magazine I only did one version of my evaluation where I analyzed each different page. However, for my final product I answered several different evaluation questions which gave a detailed over view of what I had done and learnt throughout the process of making my magazine.
Throughout the two different processes of making these two very different contrasting magazines I learnt how to use different technologies and research to make my magazine more professional and appealing to my genre of magazine. I also learnt how important it was to do this research to make my magazine as professional as possible.

I also created model release forms and call sheets which were filled in my each of my models to give proof of the planning of my photo shoots and the permission of each of the models I used.

I also took both of my different locations of my photo shoots into consideration during my planning, creating a Recce , Risk assessment and Hazard Evaluation for each location to show evidence of my development for each photo shoot. During my prelim magazine I only used one location for one photo shoot and I didn’t document each location in a detailed way like I did for my final product.
  • 7. For my final product I also used research and analysis for the different fonts I would use in my magazine and where they would be used. This was to show I had thought about how this would effect my magazine. However, in my prelim I didn’t do any research and used the same font for each piece of writing on both pages, just using different colors. For my final product I also used my Focus group to decide what 3 color palette would appeal to my audience where as in my prelim I just chose 3 colors I felt would stand out.
  • 8. While I was creating my final product I needed to make sure my product was looking how it needed to and any corrections I needed were being made. To do this I pitched a rough cut of my magazine and got feedback on post it notes from my peers and teachers. This enabled me to improve my magazine hugely and I didn’t have this advantage in my prelim because I didn’t do this rough cut.
  • 9. My final prelim and product also contrast hugely. For my final product I have added an extra DPS, this makes it seem a lot more like a professional magazine. The layout and information shown in my final product also look more professional compared to my prelim magazine because of the different ways of development, production and research I used that made it easier for me to make my final product as much like a professional magazine as I felt I could where as I didn’t do this for my prelim magazine.
  • 10. For my prelim magazine I only did one version of my evaluation where I analyzed each different page. However, for my final product I answered several different evaluation questions which gave a detailed over view of what I had done and learnt throughout the process of making my magazine.

Throughout the two different processes of making these two very different contrasting magazines I learnt how to use different technologies and research to make my magazine more professional and appealing to my genre of magazine. I also learnt how important it was to do this research to make my magazine as professional as possible.
