1. Question 7: Looking back at your preliminary task (the school magazine task), what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to full prod
2. Research and Planning In my print prelim task I did not carry out any research into other school/college magazine, therefore, it effected my work as when drawing my flat plans I didn’t really have any ideas on layout, content or images. Whereas in my final products I have carried out research into magazines of a similar genre, giving me ideas on layout, photography and content for my magazine. In research and planning of my magazine it made my magazine resemble professional practice more than my prelim as it gave me a better idea of the forms and conventions of a magazine of the genre. It also made me more time efficient as carrying out photography research helped give me a clear idea of what kind of photographs I wanted to use in my products. The font research also helped make me more time efficient as I knew which fonts I wanted to use, unlike on the prelim task, where I spent lessons picking the right fonts. In carrying out my research and planning it developed my skills in prezi, as I have used this to present the findings in the research. I have also developed my skills in blogger as I am now able to change the order of posts in my blog. In the research and planning stage of my product I have also learnt about the rule of thirds, and eye line, and positioning of the models to signify different things. Finally in the research stage of my products I have developed skills on different websites, such as slidshare.com
3. Construction - Photography In making my main product I have learnt about the three point lighting set up in the studio to make sure my image is well lit. I have also learned about the rule of thirds, clearly visible in my main image. In my prelim task it is evident that I didn't know about shooting the model with their eye line in the centre third, which left me with no room at the top of the page for my masthead. On photo shop I have edited the brightness and contrast of the image on my main task, a sill which I have learned during the construction process.
4. Composition - Layout My prelim magazine cover does not look like a professional magazine as I didn’t carry out the research and planning like on my main task. In constructing my main magazine cover, the research and planning helped me as I included more features which would be found on a conventional magazine, for example a skyline and poof. I have also learned how to put text on a banner, and changed the layout to resemble a professional magazine. I have also learned how to change the curning and leading of text, and followed the three colour pallet of a professional magazine using suitable colours.
5. Composition I have also used more appropriate fonts on my main task, which helps to represent the genre of the magazine. I have also used models which will represent the genre, as on a professional magazine. Unlike on the prelim task, I have selected the costume for the models, as well as make up and hair choices. This is to again make the models look like they would be on the cover of a professional magazine of this genre, unlike on the prelim task, where I didn’t plan what my model was going to wear.
6. Composition – Contents Page I have also used InDesign for my contents page. On InDesign I have learned how to set up the page with three columns, and how to place images properly, unlike on my prelim where the image is too far down. I have also learned how to change the curning and leading of text, making it look more professional, and. I have also learned how to put text on to a banner.
