2. This has benefitted greatly as when I did my
preliminary task, I only specifically looked at
one magazine to help my production. I
basically only took into consideration the
layout of the products and missed a vast
amount of techniques including photography,
audience feedback and social groups
represented.
3. Instead of only taking into Another key factor from
account the layout of a the preliminary task is that
magazine, I looked at
other aspects too such as I learned from these
how the photos are laid mistakes by recording
out and the Mise-en scene audience feedback on my
of them such as props, products. This enabled me
costumes and positioning.
I also got an insight into to see how they would
how various magazines of react to my product,
a similar genre to mine are outlining the advantages
set out. Rather than and disadvantages. I also
looking at just the one
magazine, I looked at a outlined my production
variety which increased process and explained in
my knowledge of what detail what I was doing
types of aspects should be with my products and why
included in my products.
4. When looking at other magazines, I found that
both Kerrang! And Rocksound magazines always
follow the three colour palette rule. Therefore, I
decided to incorporate this technique into my own
products to help conform to the needs of the
intended target audiences. By using the three
colour palette rule, this made my magazine look
more organised and professional. I believe that this
helps connote the genre of the music represented
within my magazine as by using the same colours
throughout will help make the audience identify
what genre my magazine represents and connotes.
5. . This enabled me to
gain experience and
knowledge when
taking photographs
and editing them.
. This helped me take notice of factors
such as lighting, location and positioning
when taking my actual photos for my
products to help portray the genre or
image I want to the audience.
6. Time management for my preliminary task was a minor
problem. The models intended to be used for my photo shoots
originally were unable to fulfil this as our free time in and
outside college differed greatly. I overcame this by rearranging
my models who were free when I was which allowed me to
carry on with the production of my products.
For the production of my coursework, I made sure beforehand
the models I assigned could fulfil my requests which made my
time management much easier.

10. My final products in comparison to my preliminary products are
much more detailed in terms of the layout and pictures. Looking
at the fonts on my prelim, they seemed really basic and plain
which made the whole products unprofessional. However, on my
final products the fonts I used differ greatly as I did specific
research into fonts and spent a lengthy period considering which
fonts to use. I created a detailed analysis outlining the strengths
and weaknesses of specific fonts which I felt represented the forms
and conventions. I took inspiration from the both Kerrang! and
Rocksound when researching fonts for my own magazine, I did
this to help make my magazine fit the forms and conventions of
these professional magazines as my magazine intends to have a
similar target audience.
11. For my front cover, I decided to use only one
image similar to my prelim. I felt that the
photography for my music magazine was much
more prepared and organised as I used the three
point lighting set up which was missing when
producing the photography for my prelim. The
professionalism of the photography for my music
magazine is prevalent as I planned the shots both
effectively and efficiently by taking positioning
and lighting into account whereas in the
preliminary task I didn’t.
12. The layout of my final products in comparison to my prelim
products differ greatly. The layout of my final products were
based around the photography, specifically for the front cover as I
positioned the mast head, sell lines and other features based on
the positioning of the image. This was apparent on the contents
page as well with the text accompanying the background image,
thus emphasising it to the audience.
When looking at the colours used for my final products, in
comparison to the prelim they don’t differ that much as they both
follow a limited selection of colours as they use the three colour
palette technique. This makes the products appear much more
organised and professional to the audience.
