Argument On Dinosaur
Argument 1: Why I believe there is dinosaurs in my backyard because back when there was dinosaurs
there was a shallow sea around hallett cove south Australia which it would be where we are right now.
Why is this an important point? This is an important point because you need a large amount of water
to make sedimentary rocks.
What factual evidence do you have to support your point (reason)? Because i have and people have
found dinosaur bones around south australia befor.
Argument 2: Why I believe this point (reason); some elaboration and evidence.
What is the point (reason)? I believe this because no one has dug under our house because thats our
house and we can t dig like 300m under our house to find dinosaur bones.
Why is this an important point? Well no one has tried to find dinosaur bones around our place befor. ...

can find them in the cliff around the beach.
Why is this an important point? That tells us that there can be fossils around our place or even

Harriet Tubman Essay
Harriet Tubman
Harriet Tubman was a very interesting women. Harriet Tubman, was born as Araminta Ross in 1819

mother, and Ross of course was after her father. Harriet was born into slavery. There were eight
children in her family and she was the sixth. Her mother died when she was only five years old. The
first person that owned her wasn t as mean to her as other slave owners were at this time, But sadly

Description Of A User Interface
AS91074 User interface The exact definition of a user interface is The features through which users
interact with the hardware and software . The reason that there is a user interface is so the user can
control and manipulate the device to his/her needs. Good interface This would be the google.com
home page. This is because this is a straight forward interface that is easy for the person who wants to
use it. Bad Interface A bad interface would be the Skype exiting mechanism. This is because when you
want to sue a computer and you clock the Close button at the top left of the screen the application
exits. But when you use the Close button at the top of the Skype application it just minimises the
window. This is very inefficient as it the application has two way of minimising and will confuse the
user. When I had tested person A with taking a screenshot on an IPod 4G she had kept accidently
locking the phone. Although the user was able to take a screenshot in the end she had wasted a lot of
time accidently locking the phone four times. On the other hand when I had tested the IPod on Person
C they had no trouble taking a screenshot. I think this is due to the age difference and the experience
that both subject have had. Doing this small test I was able to identify the problems with this function.
The problems were that this function required time to master and the user must be familiar with the
interface before using the device. It does present some usability in

2. Dora is right in believing that there is a medication that helps patients that are experiencing a stroke.
This medication is given to patients that are having an ischemic stroke. This medication is a tissue
plasminogen activator also known as a TPA, which is a thrombolytic and it breaks up clots (Stroke
Treatment). There are two fibrinolytics that can be used, alteplase and tenecteplase (Bledsoe, p.g.
112). This medication improves the chances of recovering from an ischemic stroke. Alteplase is an
enzyme called serine protease that has the same property of fibrin enhanced conversion of
plasminogen into plasmin. It produces limited conversion of plasminogen in the absence of fibrin.

The muscles then begin to spasm and further begin to violently shake and convulse (Silverman, Isaac

of the muscles and extension of the extremities with an immediate loss of consciousness (Grossman,

the reticular activating system becomes functional again (Grossman, p.g.521). These seizures typically

most of them were from different parts of Africa. They believe in god and believe that he was the king
of the universe, I could tell by the way they sing and the way they participated. They also believe in
Jesus, based on how they had the statue of Jesus in the center of the church. They also saw each other
as a community, as a church. They all looked really united and even though many of them didn t knew
each other they great each other like they did, because that probably might be a norm for them.

Second coming People believe that Christ will return one day and everyone will be able to see him.

Malcolm X s Use Of Rhetorical Patterns In My First Conk
Rhetorical Patterns in My First Conk In the excerpt from, The Autobiography of Malcolm X (1994) ,
titled, My First Conk , Malcolm X used the rhetorical pattern of description to paint a picture of the
scene in the reader s mind, he used process to thoughtfully describe each step and build suspense, and
finally, he used narration to connect with the readers. Malcolm X used the device of description in his
autobiography in order to paint a picture in the reader s mind so that one can better understand the
context, the overall situation, and in this case, the result of his project. An example of his use of
description is in paragraph 17, where Malcolm wrote, And on top of my head was this thick, smooth
sheen of shining red hair real red as straight as any white man s . This is an example of description
because it uses expressive word choice which helps one to have a thorough understanding of how the
author wants to portray the scene. Using description helped Malcolm X to enhance his message
because it shows to the readers all of the details that he wants us to know about what he was aiming
for in this time of his life. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He used process to completely describe each step and to build suspense during the scene. An example
where Malcolm used this pattern is in paragraphs 2 and 5, where he wrote, I took the little list of
ingredients he had printed out for me, and went to a grocery store, where I got a can... He peeled the
potatoes and thin sliced them into a quart sized Mason fruit jar . This example demonstrates the
rhetorical pattern process in that it explains in each of the steps that it took Malcolm in order to
complete the task that he had planned, as well as the fact that it built up suspense to the final results. In
using the pattern of process, Malcolm X enhanced his message by organizing his story, and by giving
the reader more context so that the message is

Why Animals Should Laws Obeying Animals And Animals
How often do you eat meat, eggs, or any dairy product? Do you ever think about the animal or the
animal s feelings? When you look at the biology food chain you find that wildlife are predators
preying among each other. Plants are eaten by small rodents and insects which are eaten by frogs.
Snakes eat frogs and foxes eat rabbits which are consumed by humans. Mushrooms feed off of dead
animals and plants and such is the cycle of food. Even though Animals should be safe, there should
not be laws protecting animals on farms and in the wildlife. Animals are needed for important research
and Humans should not be expected to follow laws animals won t obey. There should not be laws
protecting animals on farms and in wildlife. Animals provide many great sources, and without them
we wouldn t have the majority of the things we have. Animals provide meat, milk, fur, and sources of
protein. Without animals there would not be insulin for the regulation of diabetes, valves for human
heart surgery, or suede for shoes. I believe pets should be protected, but not farm animals or wild
animals who are used for important by product. Animals are used to make parts such as water filters,
insulation, rubber, and anti freeze. Laws humans are expected to comply with cannot be regulated in
the wilderness. Humans should not be expected to follow laws animals won t obey. One law that
humans are expected to follow that cannot be regulated in the wild is The right of animals to be free

As a result, there are many cases that are left unreported. With this, CPA s are in a unique position to
bridge the gap in reporting of fraud committed against elders, as they are a trusted source for their

elder demographic. Although this role is atypical for a CPA, they are in a position to do so as they
have a high amount of knowledge about the client. One of the best measures CPA s can provide is
awareness to the subject. CPA s can begin by ensuring the elder is well informed about common scams
and risks associated with particular activities as the fraudsters consistently look to take advantage of a

Good Will Immanuel Kant
In this essay, I will show that Immanuel Kant is wrong to think that the only thing good without
limitation is the good will. My first step in defending this thesis will be to review Kant s argument
about how the good will is intrinsically good. I will then try to undermine his view by showing it
supports implausible claims. For example, the premise of Kant s claim is that good will is
unconditioned. However, the good will may depend on outside factors to bring about good in a person.
Thus, I argue that if Kant s theory were true, it would be very difficult to be a good person as
utilitarianism do not allow for acts that go beyond duty. Kant s argument suggests that good will is the
only thing good without qualification. First, Kant begins to distinguish between things that are good
without qualification and things that are good only under certain qualified conditions. For example,
gifts of nature such as understanding, wit, and judgement, or gifts of fortune such as power, riches, or
honor may be used for the good or bad, and they also have limited ... Show more content on

The person decides that he must jump in and save the person from the river because he believes it is
the morally good thing to do. Although he did not have to jump in and save the person, he decided to
because there was a morally good reason to do so, and it was an act that went above the call of duty.
Consequently, if one wants to be a good person in the world, it would be implausible for someone to
put their own duty above feelings in their intentions, as that would seem to make the act insensitive.
Therefore, if someone does a kind act for someone else, they are doing it because it is a morally good
action and in contrast to Kant, not necessarily because it is a morally right action, as people do good
for others because they feel positive towards the end

Reflection Paper On Clubbing
This section drove me confused at some crucial points and I was literally got scared for the fact of
getting different answers from one student to another. In my survey, I collected data among equal
number of male and female correspondents and I found out that most of the students are not
appreciating of what I thought about joining a club along with acquiring good academic results.
Figure 1: Column chart showing how students feel about clubbing
Here, my goal was to find out what the students think of clubbing before driving them into my main
questions and it seemed around 50% correspondents rated 3, around 29% rated 4 when on the other
hand, rest of the people nearly hate clubbing as around 4.17% rated both hate it and 1 as their
responses which was quite shocking for me to know about the fact that most of the correspondents
were not interested enough of feeling good about clubbing.
Figure 2: Pie chart showing student s response on clubbing as a mandatory part
In this part I wanted to know whether the students want clubbing as their obvious choice along with
their academic subjects or not. Major part of correspondents disagreed with around 37.5% responses,
29.2% stayed neutral as they were unable to decide probably, 12.5% strongly disagreed with the fact
when only 20.8% correspondents agreed with it and they assumed yes it should be a mandatory sector
for every student along with academic subjects. This led me to a thought that students do not want to
drive themselves into clubbing without a solid interest and they ended up discouraging those who
wants to be a part of clubbing to learn something new.
Figure 3: Line chart showing whether the clubbing students are advanced or not
I also wanted to know about the preference of my correspondents and whom do they support in
respect of advanced students as some might think that students who are involved in clubbing might
have something extra than the other ordinary students or some might think that joining a club cannot
make one advanced literally and around 75% responded that no it is not mandatory to join clubs to be
more advanced and only 25% correspondents agreed that yes clubbing students are advanced than the
ordinary students because of their daily field

Comparing Differential Gene Expression Of The European...

TITLE OF RESEARCH PROJECT PROPOSAL: Comparing differential gene expression of the
European honey bee Apis mellifera and the Asian honey bee Apis Cerana when infected with Varroa
destructor
SCIENTIFIC ABSTRACT:
The European honey bee Apis mellifera is in serious decline as colonies worldwide are wiped out by
the Varroa mite, Varroa destructor. Even though many colonies die out once infected there is
significant variation observed in the time that it takes, leading to the assumption that some colonies
may be resistant to the mite. In this proposed experiment genes responsible for resistance would be
identified in the Asian honey bee and would then be used to identify similar genes in the European
honey bee. Hives infested with the Varroa mite would be tested to ascertain the levels of up regulation
and down regulation of the target genes. The hypothesis is that various genes will be up and down
regulated in both species, not necessarily the same ones. RT PCR would be used to identify the alleles
responsible for immunity in both species. Once resistant strains of Apis Mellifera have been identified
they would be tested for resistance via exposure to the Varroa mite. The discovery of resistant strains
of Apis Mellifera would allow for selective breeding to be carried out to increase the species numbers,
which is why this

Types of Grand Nursing Theorists
There are a multitude of grand nursing theorists and theories available to nurses for the
use of knowledge and adaptation into practice. The four categories of grand theory include
needs, interaction, outcomes, and caring. Each type of grand nursing theory has its own unique
concepts, definitions, and proposition, with the purpose of assisting and bettering a patient s
well being. Even with the same focus, each theory and corresponding theorist is much different
in regards to the approach in which the theory plans to achieve that goal. The following text will
discuss four particular grand theorists and their theories, as well as a synopsis of which which
theorist is most congruent with my personal philosophy of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Through this process, human beings, both patients and nurses can
find their own meaning. The nurse must accept the patient as they are currently, but also as what
they have the potential in becoming. (Meleis, 2012, p. 173) The concept of caring is central
within the nursing profession and practice. Without thinking about it, nurses care deeply for their
patients, and in return, find meaning every day.
After reviewing the four previously mentioned grand nursing theorists, I believe Imogene
King s views and philosophy of nursing is most congruent with my personal ideas regarding nursing.
Without the process of setting goals, a nurse is unable to gauge or know where their
patients care is headed. When nurses, such as myself, set mutually agreed upon goals for their
patients, they can evaluate progress, as well as plan ahead in the patient s care. I make a personal
point to make at least one obtainable goal with the help of my patient or their family to work
towards during my twelve hour shift. I also use my employer s care planning tool to judge the
patient s progress towards that goal. Without goals, the nurse patient relationship runs the risk of
becoming stagnant, resulting in a decrease of independence and the possibility of longer hospital
stay.

Shakespeare s thoughts on Modern Culture
To aide in this paper, I have chosen the song We didn t start the Fire, by Billy Joel to help provide
modern events that William Shakespeare s works can relate to. Shakespeare s plethora of works
provide information about his thoughts on society during his life. Many events and topics that are seen
in modern culture are relatable to events that occurred during Shakespeare s life, such as government,
assassinations, and controversies. Shakespeare s characters from his many plays reflect his thoughts
and provide an instant ability to connect modern culture back through Shakespeare s writing.
Government in England during the time of Shakespeare s life consisted of a Monarchy.
In the United States the governmental system used is a Representative Democracy (Kurtus).
Shakespeare in his life had a strong view on government, Fit to be govern? You re not fit to live,
(Macbeth) Shakespeare writes this as Macduff frets over the future of Scotland with Macbeth in
command. Shakespeare writes these lines talking about Macbeth, but the lines send a message about
Shakespeare s thoughts on government. Shakespeare s opinions would still be strong today, with
corrupt political systems, the United States needs a man such as William Shakespeare to bring
attention through literature to the ruins of our nation s political system.

Ishmael Beah Quotes
Character Essay Fighting. Death. Rebels. Children. Wars aren t fought how they used to. They are now
fought by 13 year olds wielding AK 47s and G3s. Ishmael Beah was one of them. Ishmael is a kind
looking Sierra Leonean man. If eyes are truly windows to the soul then his dark eyes reveal pacifism
and kindness. He tends to wear collared shirts and jackets, giving off an air of sophistication. He is a
good man and his looks show it. Ishmael is a kind man, working for his fellow child soldiers. He is
someone I look up to. He is a former child soldier who was forced to do unspeakable acts even though
at heart he is a fairly gentle person. He is a lover of music and often memorized songs and used to sing
and rap them with his friends. He is a strong person who has gone through hell and back, and yet he is
still able to smile and forgive himself for what he s done. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of these experiences is when he was about to see his family, then the village they were staying in
was attacked by rebels. His mother, father and two brothers were trapped in their house and slowly
burned to death. This happened only a few weeks after their former home was attacked and raided by
rebels. But it is a better fate then some because one of his now deceased, friend s 3 sisters were raped
over and over again. while their father was knocked out for trying to defend them and their mother
being forced to watch. The rebels took the girls with them. Ishmael s fate was not much better than the
3 girls for he became a child soldier: traumatized and hopped up on drugs and told to avenge his
family by killing every rebel and snorting cocaine until he no longer felt anything. Remember war is

Dred Scott s The Supreme Court Of The United States
It has been presented to the Supreme Court of the United States of America that Mr. Dred Scott pleas
for freedom from his slave master, Mr. Sanford. Initially Mr. Scott was owned by Dr. Emerson until
Mr. Emerson s death when Scott was sold to Mr. Sanford. Under intense scrutiny and discernment it
has been decided by the Supreme Court that Mr. Dred Scott has the inalienable right to be a free
citizen of the United States of America. Scott is a slave, owned by Mr. and Mrs. John Emerson since
1836. Scott currently resides in St. Louis, Missouri as of 1830. Mr. Dred Scott has presided residence
in both Illinois and Wisconsin Territory, accompanied by his slaveholder. The Illinois and Wisconsin
Territories are free, meaning that no man nor woman can be private property of another. Because of
this, Mr. Emerson has no control nor jurisdiction over Scott. Mr. Scott resided in free territory for
several years, therefore, he must leave this courtroom as a free man. Although slavery is not abolished
in the South, it is abolished in both of the territories that Scott visited during his involvement with Mr.
Emerson, making it his right to be free. It is of the slaveholder s duty to not enter the territories of
Illinois and Wisconsin expecting his slave to maintain in his possession. The responsibility is left on
Mr. Emerson and it is due to his ignorance that his slave will gain freedom today. Slavery is prohibited
in both territories, making it unreasonable that a man should remain a

Bill Clinton Immigration Policy Analysis
Immigration: If elected, Clinton plans to reform the immigration system within the first 100 days in
office. Her plan will treat every person with dignity, fix the family visa backlog, uphold the rule of
law, protect our borders and national security, and bring millions of hardworking people into the
formal economy. She will fight to terminate the three and ten year bars that bar illegal immigrants that
must return to apply for a green card from returning for three to ten years. In terms of President
Obama s executive actions DACA and DAPA (programs that allow for deportation exemptions and
work permits in certain circumstances), Clinton believes these are within the realm of executive
authority and plans to defend them. In Clinton s plan, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She believes that all students should have the opportunity to graduate from colleges in their state
without racking up thousands and thousands of dollars in debt. She cites that families that have an
income under $125,000 won t pay for tuition in in state colleges by 2021. While during her first term
she pledges to make in state public college free for families that make up to $85,000. Building on
Obama s plans, Clinton promises to make community colleges free of tuition. She believes that states
need to invest in higher education while colleges should consistently be working to control tuition
costs. She wants to give extra aid to historically black colleges as well as other institutions that aid
minorities. In Clinton s plan, no one will have to pay more than 10% of their income to student loan
bills, after 20 years the debt is forgiven. Borrowers that are struggling will be given aid and Hillary
wants to drastically cut interest rates for future borrowers and so that the government is never
profiting from student loans. Clinton would like to simplify the process, and entice employers to help
with student loan debt, while entrepreneurs should be allowed to defer their loans, and in certain
circumstances the government should forgive up to $17,500 while they are in the process of risk
taking. A big part of Clinton s plan is just reducing penalties against borrowers and making

To Speak or Not to Speak Essay
Learning is dynamic. It is kinetic in its growth, as humans begin to learn at their first breath and end
with their final. Some things people learn are small, like that a coworker loves a certain shade of blue;
while other things can save lives, such as when a toddler learns not to put silverware in an electrical
socket. Yet, how are many lessons learned in life? Simply said, the answer is through speech. Whether
by a mother s worried scolding or a professor s educated explanation, being able to speak is the
general way of spreading knowledge, and quite frankly why humans created language. With this
evident, the freedom of speech is irrefutably one of the most vital gifts given, especially during times
of mental exploration like that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, this also means revenue loss for the college and programs within. If the school also forbids
dating, such as in the first video, some people may never realize that their special person was right
there beside them the whole time and pass them by. Overall, any type of personal or educational
growth would be stunted tremendously.
Additionally, many required classes for a degree that stretch the mind of each student past its previous
level will be ineffective if freedom of speech is taken. For example, most degrees include a mandatory
ethics class, one that challenges their typical viewpoints and forces them to observe the world from the
other side. Debates in this class must be free to contemplate all angles and reasoning in order for them
to truly hold influence and spark the minds of its participants. The events of these friendly debates
would be impossible in a university that controls the speech of its students. Or what about those in
classes studying government? Students would learn about laws and the Constitution only to know that
their first amendment rights are being disregarded. What about those studying the Holocaust or
African American history? Their textbooks would be moderated, and any who wanted to look further
into his or her topic could be punished unrightfully like Keith John Sampson was for his novel. The
nation s universities must be fully aware of the dilemmas that eliminating the freedom of speech
would cause.

Importance Of Adrc Based Lfc Of Interconnected Power System
PhD Research Proposal School of Engineering Information Technology UNSW, Canberra, Australia
Proposed Supervisor: Dr. Hemanshu Pota, UNSW, Canberra, Australia
Applicant: Md. Mijanur Rahman
Title: Determination the response characteristics of ADRC based LFC of Interconnected Power
System.
Introduction:
The control of active power and frequency in a power system is referred to as load frequency control
(LFC). Stable operation of interconnected power system requires both constant frequency and constant
tile line power exchange [1]. An area control error (ACE), defined as a linear combination of tie line
power and frequency deviations, is taken as the controlled output of LFC. LFC regulates ACE to zero
such that frequency and tie line power errors are forced to zeros. PID controller is widely used in LFC
due to its simplicity but is gives long settling time and produces large frequency deviation [2]. In
recent years, active disturbance rejection control (ADRC) developed by J. Han [3] and modified by Z.
Gao [4, 5] has been proposed for the LFC controller [6 9].
ADRC has been studied for LFC of Bangladesh Power System (BPS) [6]. The work proposes
feedback connections from load rich area to generation rich area by considering load change in a
single area only, not simultaneous load change in all areas. Tie line power exchange of a power system
is inversely proportional with the reactance of transmission line [10]. In [11], it is described that

Black Hawk Down By Mark Bowden
For my cultural event I watch a war film. I decided to watch the movie Black Hawk Down. This
movie was based off of a true story and the book Black Hawk Down written by Mark Bowden. It was
directed by Ridley Scott. It was released October 10, 2002, nine years after the event happened. Many
people fought in this war and their stores were told in this film. On of them was sergeant Matt
Eversmann who was played by Josh Hartnett. Private John Grimes was played by Ewan McGregor.
Tom Sizemore played the character Mcknight. There were many other soldiers in the movie that also
played a very significant role in this war story. Black Hawk Down is about a group of U.S. special
forces, also know at the Delta forces, who were sent into Somalia to help the people. They were there
to provide aid and food to the starving people. While there they went to arrest president Mohamed
Farrah Aidid while trying to avoid the Militia and his military. The movie is about the Battle of
Mogadishu that happened on October 3, 1993. What was supposed to be an hour mission, but turned
into a day and a half rescue mission. After the helicopters dropped their men two Black Hawks were
shot down and others had been badly damaged. Thus the name Black Hawk Down. The soldiers had
no way to get out because the helicopters had gone down. They spent that day and night under gun fire
waiting for rescuers to come. On the morning of October 4th they had halves armed military cars

Total War During World War II
Definition:
What is meant by the concept of Total War? Total war is best described as a country s 100% effort. All
means of production and accomplishment are geared towards what is the best way to win a war.
How was WWII the maximum example of Total War? Most Allies and Axis countries, namely
Germany, had geared their economy towards pouring all their resources into the attempt of winning
the war. In no other war was this done as much as it was during World War II.
Mass Produced Warfare:
Compare the military production of the various major Allied and Axis powers during WWII. What
observations can you make about the outcome of the war based on this information? There are many

By not taking in other factors, and by looking at production amounts only, it is obvious that the Allies
would win. There was no means of resources that the Axis powers excelled in, and had few people
who fought in the war. Both sides of the war had at this time undergone industrial revolutions, had at
least somewhat equal caliber machinery. This means that it would be almost physically impossible for
the Axis to defeat the Allies.
Strategic Bombing:
What do the websites say about the effectiveness of bombing campaigns in disrupting the war effort of
the Axis during WWII? According to the majority of the information on the websites, the bombing
campaigns put in place by the Allies were not very effective. The main goal of the bombing campaigns
were to break the morale of the Axis citizens, specifically Germany. This was done by instead of fully
wiping out cities, leaving them only half damaged to show the power of the armies. However, these
bombings did little to no damage to the will of Germans. People still were willing to support the Nazi
cause. The German economy was very much destroyed, thanks to the bombing efforts, but military
production was still proceeding, as the Germans were prepared for the Total War involved. It is also
stated that as a result of the bombings, Germany s mobility was shrunken, as they could not move as
fast as they wanted.

Devolution And The Scottish Parliament Essay
Within the United Kingdom, a recurring issue has been raised regarding the political position of
Scotland and how the Scottish Parliament could better govern the country. To establish whether the
quality of life could be improved for the Scottish people, key events, devolution, and the Scottish
Parliament must be evaluated and analysed. The argument for greater power in decision making and
the ability to implement change for the citizens of Scotland, has been central to Scottish politics for
some time.
The process of establishing devolution for Scotland began with the Scotland Act 1978, which made
way for a referendum on devolution and attempted to gain more power and legislature abilities for
Scotland. The rise of the SNP forced the Labour Government of James Callaghan to react. The terms
of this Act stated 40% of the entire electorate had to vote yes for devolution and the establishment of a
Scottish Assembly, this included those who did not vote which were counted as a no vote. The 1979
Referendum, on 1st March, saw a majority of 52% in favour of devolution, to 48% against. At first
glance it appears Scotland was successful in its referendum, however only 32.9% of the electorate had
joined the majority, meaning the 40% required to achieve devolution was not met. With this failure to
achieve devolution, the SNP backed a Tory motion of no confidence in the Labour government which
saw the 1979 election being called by just one vote. The 1979 election saw the rise of

Mandatory Drug Testing for High School Athletes Essay
A medical dictionary defines a drug as any substance that when taken into the living organism may
modify one or more of its functions (Newton 12). However, when speaking of drug testing for abuse a
person is usually thinking about illegal drugs or drugs that can alter athletic performance in sporting
events. Mandatory drug testing was not allowed in public schools until June 2002 when the Supreme
Court allowed for public schools to do random drug testing (Carroll 23). This decision allowed for
drug testing in all schools throughout the United States not just for athletes but also students who are

prevent drugs within their school system, by putting in place mandatory drug testing for all students

Over the past couple of years drugs have grown within the younger generations. Nearly one in five
teens have taken prescription medications to get high, according to a recent study by the Partnership

schools that had, and still have, drug problems within their schools (Yamaguchi). These are few
examples of mandatory drug testing in high schools athletics and why it is needed across the country.
Mandatory drug testing for high school athletes should be required because it decreases drug use in
schools. By having mandatory drug testing in schools the risk for youth becoming addicted to drugs is
lowered. The risk for drugs within a school is lowered when there is mandatory drug testing for
athletes because most drug problems within a school start with steroid use within certain sports in a

Truth And Truth In Dawn By Elie Wiesel
History is written by the victors. Winston Churchill. The depth of this statement is almost like an
abyss, unending and unknown. It holds plethoras of secrets and has no rival to match its ability. No
other single entity within this world has the ability to change and morph truth. What is written by the
victors is the truth told, and in most cases, a stretched truth can become actual fact. But, while the
victors may be able to write the world s past, they will never be able to write individual truth and
perspective. The most complex stories the world will ever know lie are seen through each pair of eyes.
Each human has their own story, perspective, and truth that only they will be able know. Each unique
individual has the ability to write their own past and personal set of beliefs. And most importantly,
each person chooses what they fight for. All of this comes together to create the complexity hidden
within the book Dawn by Elie Wiesel. His main character, Elijah, is apart of a revolutionary force in
Palestine fighting for the freedom of his people. To him and his comrades, they are the patriots, the
freedom fighters, the light to their people, but to the British, their captors, they are a disease in the
world, blight to the crops, and most importantly terrorists. While these two perspectives are clashing

Another technique they use and one of the most commonly used by Seventeen is the use of celebrities.
Teens often look at celebrities as superhumans. They find celebrities to look up to. They idolize them,
want to be like them. Magazines use this to their advantage. They plaster the faces of some of the most
influential stars to their front pages claiming to help teens become just like their idol. They make sure
to cover all social platforms from actresses to singer, models, and socialites. Seventeen has used
people such as Sarah Hyland, Maddie Ziegler, Zendaya and Carrie Underwood. They use these people
as marketing tools. These people are seen in the public eye as credible sources especially by the girls
who look up to them. They try to appeal to the fact

South Korea Suicide
The prominent education frenzy in South Korea places students in a high stress environment which
can contribute to the risk for suicide ideation. The average school day in South Korea lasts eight to
nine hours, which is then followed by cram school and multiple hours dedicated to studying. An
anonymous student, quoted by BBC News, described her day as the following:
She rises at 6.30am, is at school by 8am, finishes at 4pm, (or 5pm if she has a club), then pops back
home to eat. She then takes a bus to her second school shift of the day, at a private crammer or
hagwon, where she has lessons from 6pm until 9pm. She spends another two hours in what she calls
self study back at school, before arriving home after 11pm. She goes to bed at 2am, and rises in the

In an article for the Economist by S. C., the author summarizes that the purpose of the exam is to
provide an analogous view of students abilities that universities or future employers can easily
reference. However, the fundamental problem with this method is that the test is only empirical if
students study for the same amount of time, otherwise those who study the most have an advantage
going into the test. With this knowledge in mind, students become overly competitive in an attempt to
get into leading colleges and spend a majority of their time studying or in academically related
situations. In order to accommodate for cram schools and the extra homework provided by them,
students sacrifice their time for themselves and their sleep. In a study published in the Korean Journal
of Pediatrics on sleep patterns and school performances, data indicated an average of less than six
hours of sleep on the weeknights for high schoolers. Additionally, the National Sleep Foundation
attributes behaviorally induced insufficient sleep syndrome, otherwise known as voluntary sleep
deprivation, to, poor work performance,

Syntax And Diction In My Papa s Waltz By Theodore Roethke
The controversial poem, My Papa s Waltz by Theodore Roethke has spurred passionate academic
debate from professors, scholars, and students alike; the imagery, syntax, and diction of the poem
clearly support the interpretation that Roethke writes My Papa s Waltz to reminisce on a bittersweet
memory with his father. His unclear commemoration has sparked a divide on what the true purpose of
the poem is. Some may argue the poem s purpose is to shine light on the subject of abuse, whereas
others believe the father and son were sharing a moment while roughly playing. However, the more
one examines this piece of literature, it becomes undeniable that the poem portrays a scene of a toxic
father son relationship. Although there are a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main form of syntax that Roethke uses is rhyme scheme. My Papa s Waltz contains a simple
ABAB rhyme scheme, in which many slant rhymes are used; further, this makes the poem sound
similar to the way a song would. Notably, waltzes are guided dances... just as the father in My Papa s
Waltz, guided his son through life. Yet, it is also important to note that waltzes are meant to be simple,
swift, and loving. Although waltzes are described as these things, Roethke s childhood is described as
a waltz gone wrong. He makes it obvious he faces abuse and the effects of alcoholism in his early life.
As stated, the rhyme scheme used by Roethke helps develop the true main idea of this poem by
shaping it as it were a song, more specifically a waltz. If the poem, My Papa s Waltz, was a song, it
would be a pessimistic and depressing one. Clearly, Roethke s unfortunate experiences portrayed by
using syntax make us one step closer to discovery the real purpose of the poem. In short, the syntax of
this story shapes its meaning through rhyme scheme. Diction is arguably the most important literary
device carried throughout the duration of this poem. Many readers were disoriented by the use of
Roethke s word choice, yet it is arguably the most indisputable piece of evidence used to portray the
background of abuse in the author s poem. Roethke uses words that carry negative connotations such
as: beat, battered, death, and more.

Introduction
Given the current concern for our planet, worry over climate change
Formation of Glaciers
To begin formation of a glacier, snow falls. This snow transforms into firn, which eventually changes

Flow of Ice Masses
There are many categories of glacier that depend on their properties, for example relative size,
location and flow speed. A glacier can be on land or floating. Thick, floating glaciers are referred to as
ice shelves. Ice streams are channels in which ice flows much faster than the ice surrounding it.
Reaction of Glaciers to Environmental Change
Glacial flow is the primary cause of differentiation between glaciers in their growth and retreat.
Broadly, glacial change happens simultaneously with similar rates of development. Occasionally,
random fluctuations seem to occur, as can be found in rock records from the Pleistocene epoch, where
continental ice sheets were subject apparent random growth and retreat, (Cuffey Paterson, 2010). The
most direct influence on the progress of a glacier is climate. A change in climate has the obvious direct
effect of melting ice or depositing more snow, these processes are called the mass balance. A

A convenient and intuitive approach to conceptualizing the multifaceted visual quality assessment
problem is to make an analogy with the classical communication problem. We will make extensive use
of Fig. 1, which depicts a number of important concepts, beginning with the lower part of the figure,
which depicts the elements and flow of a transmitter channel receiver communication system. As the
caption explains, in this analogy, the transmitter is the world of visible radiant energy and of object
surfaces that interact in a physically and statistically lawful manner, projecting through lenses to
images that are incident on a sensor. Because of the coherent nature of matter and the physical
properties of light, natural images that are formed by an optical process obey laws that can be
statistically expressed. Section III elaborates on this, but for now the term natural image or natural
video may be construed to mean an optical signal sensed from visible light that has been captured by
an ordinary good quality camera equipped with a low distortion lens under reasonably good
conditions. This means that the image is not distorted by noticeable aliasing from poor resolution, over
or under exposure from poor lighting, or other impairments arising from poor technique. Further,
naturalness implies that the signal was not synthetically created by computer graphics techniques, nor

The Marketing Strategy Analysis of Starbucks Corporation
Introduction
Under today s ever changing market, strategic marketing planning has become more and more
significant whether of the functional or the fundamental. Especially, although financial crisis leaded
economy growth slowdown, it did not cause a serious influence for chain coffee shop. As Howard
Schultz said, CEO of Starbucks, I don t think we had a business plan for the severity of what has taken
place. History demonstrated to us that a downturn in the economy would not affect us, and in fact, we
would be recession proof. (Katie Couric, 2008) Based on Financial Times, Starbucks revealed that

(Jobber and Fahy, 2009) Therefore, the strategic marketing becomes more and more significant since
it can help organizations to find its own position of the competitive market; thus, they just can justify
their strategy against whether the existing or the potential competitors. Therefore, organizations
should classify the marketing environment including competitive environment (its immediate
competitors and customers) and the macro environment (the wider social, political and economic
setting they operate.) In order to develop the right strategy whether for short term or long term,
organizations not only need to know the concept of strategic marketing but also how to use it within
the competitive marketing.
In addition, fundamental to strategic thinking is the concept of strategic fit. It indicates how
organizations match the internal resources and capabilities with the opportunities in the external
environment. The strategic model used to evaluate the appropriateness of the vision or decision
making of the organizations (Hooley G et al 2008). A competitive advantage can be developed
successfully by a suitable and unique combination of capabilities and resources. Nevertheless,
organizations should pay more attention to classify the differentiation between resources and
capabilities. Capabilities are focused on the learning effect of the organizations

Greek Food History
History of Greek Cuisine
Greek cuisine is much more than just delicious food. It is part of a rich culture rooted in religion. The
religion of the ancient Greeks is known today as Greek mythology. Ancient Greeks believed that
world was ruled by Gods and Goddesses, and that the food that they ate, the crops that they grew, and
how successful the crops were, were all tied to these mighty rulers. In fact, perhaps the most known
food found in Greece, olive oil, was believed to have come from one of their Goddesses. According to
the ancient story, a King named Cecrops wanted to find a God or Goddess to look after his city state.
He chose two; Athena and Poseidon. To choose one winner, a contest was held to see who could give

Pinderfield Hospital Interview Report
06 01 2017: Interview as a Safety Support Worker for MidYorks Hospital.
I had an interview for a new job today at Pinderfields Hospital. The interview went really well and the
Senior Sister gave me an offer instantly. However upon realising that I could only work part time (23
hours/ week) and not a bank position, I started to wonder whether the job will be suitable for me.
Initially was really keen in getting the job because I was fed up of cleaning the wards for mediocre
results. I was even more delighted that there was an opportunity to work at Dewsbury Hospital, as I
missed volunteering there a lot. However I was upset that a bank position was not available (despite
advertising it) and that I had to work contracted hours.
The interview went well. This was no surprise as a lot of the questions were based on protocols and
the job description (which I knew fairly well). There was one question that did throw me; asking how
I could improve a patient s memory (and therefore, decrease the risk of dementia). I tried to stay calm
throughout, however, I did feel like I mumbled a lot in my answers. However the Senior Sister insisted
that I worked on her ward (a stroke rehab), so I m glad I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Analysis Of The Journey Song Dont Stop Believin
The Journey song Don t Stop Believin is one of the band s most famous songs, and arguably their
magnum opus. However, the song itself goes deeper than its literal meaning, and tackles the theme of
finding your identity, following your dreams, and doing what you re passionate about. The name of
the song, Don t Stop Believin , follows its overall message and conveys it to listeners in a way that
they will understand its themes regardless of whether they are listening closely and trying to break it
down, or just singing along.
The first two stanzas read:
Just a small town girl
Livin in a lonely world
She took the midnight train
Goin anywhere
Just a city boy
Born and raised in South Detroit
He took the midnight train
Goin anywhere
The first two lines of each stanza, Just a small town girl / Livin in a lonely world (1.1 2) and Just a city
boy / Born and raised in South Detroit (2.1 2), describe two different people from two different
settings, who are supposedly united when they take the midnight train goin anywhere . The midnight
train referred to in each stanza might be symbolic for some common goal, or it might be more literal,
as two different people take a train in search of something new in their lives.
The third stanza reads:
A singer in a smoky room
The smell of wine and cheap perfume
For a smile they can share the night
It goes on and on and on and on
The first two lines of this stanza, A singer in a smoky room / The smell of wine and cheap

Synthesis Essay on Indocumented Immigrants in the US
In my ENC 1101 class, we were required to go through several of processes to map out the formula of
writing our final assignment in our class: a synthesis essay. The most imperative part of our
assignment was to choose a synthesis essay question on a list that our professor gave us. The second
most vital ingredient in the formula was to choose two texts from our Allyn Bacon Guide to Writing
book which would be the backbone of our synthesis essay that we would have to expand on and create
our own ideas from. The question that I choose to further my vague knowledge on immigration was:
What should the United States do to make progress in solving the problem of undocumented

Seeing the many sides of the immigration conflict, I believe the Congress should allow undocumented
immigrants to live in America, but they must show that they are an asset to America. Despite the fact
that Williams writes for a call to action for the resolution of immigration in the United States, his
article is a blog article written for his blog followers. Williams article is not intended for scholarly
audiences, while Hanson s article is. Hanson s article is published on the History News Network,
which requires great thought and reviewing, whereas Williams is just required to write an article and
post on the Huffington Post in his profile, without an editor to review the contents of the article.
Williams is free to voice his opinion in whichever language he desires due to it being a blog article,
and Hanson is not. However, due to this being so, Hanson s article proves to more credible that
Williams article, especially due to the fact that Hanson is a military historian and political essayist.
But, Williams article provides pathos in his article by including a personal anecdote in the introduction
of it. The anecdote transcends the article to his purpose of explaining the political part of the
immigration issue, making his standpoint and call to action clear. But then again, Hanson writes with
logos, making his readers look

  • 5. Description Of A User Interface AS91074 User interface The exact definition of a user interface is The features through which users interact with the hardware and software . The reason that there is a user interface is so the user can control and manipulate the device to his/her needs. Good interface This would be the google.com home page. This is because this is a straight forward interface that is easy for the person who wants to use it. Bad Interface A bad interface would be the Skype exiting mechanism. This is because when you want to sue a computer and you clock the Close button at the top left of the screen the application exits. But when you use the Close button at the top of the Skype application it just minimises the window. This is very inefficient as it the application has two way of minimising and will confuse the user. When I had tested person A with taking a screenshot on an IPod 4G she had kept accidently locking the phone. Although the user was able to take a screenshot in the end she had wasted a lot of time accidently locking the phone four times. On the other hand when I had tested the IPod on Person C they had no trouble taking a screenshot. I think this is due to the age difference and the experience that both subject have had. Doing this small test I was able to identify the problems with this function. The problems were that this function required time to master and the user must be familiar with the interface before using the device. It does present some usability in ... There are two fibrinolytics that can be used, alteplase and tenecteplase (Bledsoe, p.g. 112). This medication improves the chances of recovering from an ischemic stroke. Malcolm X s Use Of Rhetorical Patterns In My First Conk Rhetorical Patterns in My First Conk In the excerpt from, The Autobiography of Malcolm X (1994) , titled, My First Conk , Malcolm X used the rhetorical pattern of description to paint a picture of the scene in the reader s mind, he used process to thoughtfully describe each step and build suspense, and finally, he used narration to connect with the readers. Malcolm X used the device of description in his autobiography in order to paint a picture in the reader s mind so that one can better understand the context, the overall situation, and in this case, the result of his project. An example of his use of description is in paragraph 17, where Malcolm wrote, And on top of my head was this thick, smooth sheen of shining red hair real red as straight as any white man s . This is an example of description because it uses expressive word choice which helps one to have a thorough understanding of how the author wants to portray the scene. When you look at the biology food chain you find that wildlife are predators preying among each other. Plants are eaten by small rodents and insects which are eaten by frogs. Snakes eat frogs and foxes eat rabbits which are consumed by humans. Mushrooms feed off of dead animals and plants and such is the cycle of food. Even though Animals should be safe, there should not be laws protecting animals on farms and in the wildlife. Animals provide many great sources, and without them we wouldn t have the majority of the things we have. Animals provide meat, milk, fur, and sources of protein. Without animals there would not be insulin for the regulation of diabetes, valves for human heart surgery, or suede for shoes. I believe pets should be protected, but not farm animals or wild animals who are used for important by product. Animals are used to make parts such as water filters, insulation, rubber, and anti freeze. Laws humans are expected to comply with cannot be regulated in the wilderness. With this, CPA s are in a unique position to bridge the gap in reporting of fraud committed against elders, as they are a trusted source for their clients. CPA s should look to take on a financial elder planning role when providing services to the elder demographic. Although this role is atypical for a CPA, they are in a position to do so as they have a high amount of knowledge about the client. One of the best measures CPA s can provide is awareness to the subject. CPA s can begin by ensuring the elder is well informed about common scams and risks associated with particular activities as the fraudsters consistently look to take advantage of a changing environment. However, despite implementing preventative measures, the fraudsters may still prevail with a growing complexity in their schemes. Therefore, it is beneficial for CPA s to recognize the signs of potential abuse to protect their client s interests. Red Flags At the root of many financial elder abuse cases are fraudsters who have built relationships with the elder and later took advantage of the elder s trust placed in them. • 12. Good Will Immanuel Kant In this essay, I will show that Immanuel Kant is wrong to think that the only thing good without limitation is the good will. My first step in defending this thesis will be to review Kant s argument about how the good will is intrinsically good. I will then try to undermine his view by showing it supports implausible claims. For example, the premise of Kant s claim is that good will is unconditioned. However, the good will may depend on outside factors to bring about good in a person. Thus, I argue that if Kant s theory were true, it would be very difficult to be a good person as utilitarianism do not allow for acts that go beyond duty. Kant s argument suggests that good will is the only thing good without qualification. First, Kant begins to distinguish between things that are good without qualification and things that are good only under certain qualified conditions. For example, gifts of nature such as understanding, wit, and judgement, or gifts of fortune such as power, riches, or honor may be used for the good or bad, and they also have limited ... Consequently, if one wants to be a good person in the world, it would be implausible for someone to put their own duty above feelings in their intentions, as that would seem to make the act insensitive. Therefore, if someone does a kind act for someone else, they are doing it because it is a morally good action and in contrast to Kant, not necessarily because it is a morally right action, as people do good for others because they feel positive towards the end ... • 13. Reflection Paper On Clubbing This section drove me confused at some crucial points and I was literally got scared for the fact of getting different answers from one student to another. In my survey, I collected data among equal number of male and female correspondents and I found out that most of the students are not appreciating of what I thought about joining a club along with acquiring good academic results. Figure 1: Column chart showing how students feel about clubbing Here, my goal was to find out what the students think of clubbing before driving them into my main questions and it seemed around 50% correspondents rated 3, around 29% rated 4 when on the other hand, rest of the people nearly hate clubbing as around 4.17% rated both hate it and 1 as their responses which was quite shocking for me to know about the fact that most of the correspondents were not interested enough of feeling good about clubbing. Figure 2: Pie chart showing student s response on clubbing as a mandatory part In this part I wanted to know whether the students want clubbing as their obvious choice along with their academic subjects or not. Major part of correspondents disagreed with around 37.5% responses, 29.2% stayed neutral as they were unable to decide probably, 12.5% strongly disagreed with the fact when only 20.8% correspondents agreed with it and they assumed yes it should be a mandatory sector for every student along with academic subjects. This led me to a thought that students do not want to drive themselves into clubbing without a solid interest and they ended up discouraging those who wants to be a part of clubbing to learn something new. Figure 3: Line chart showing whether the clubbing students are advanced or not I also wanted to know about the preference of my correspondents and whom do they support in respect of advanced students as some might think that students who are involved in clubbing might have something extra than the other ordinary students or some might think that joining a club cannot make one advanced literally and around 75% responded that no it is not mandatory to join clubs to be more advanced and only 25% correspondents agreed that yes clubbing students are advanced than the ordinary students because of their daily field ... YOUR NAME: Ruan Rupasinha NAME OF GROUP MEMBERS: Ruan Rupasinha, Danny Hoskins, James McCusker, Oliver Tancred, Josh Davis, Joe Howes, Giselle Edge TITLE OF RESEARCH PROJECT PROPOSAL: Comparing differential gene expression of the European honey bee Apis mellifera and the Asian honey bee Apis Cerana when infected with Varroa destructor SCIENTIFIC ABSTRACT: The European honey bee Apis mellifera is in serious decline as colonies worldwide are wiped out by the Varroa mite, Varroa destructor. Even though many colonies die out once infected there is significant variation observed in the time that it takes, leading to the assumption that some colonies may be resistant to the mite. In this proposed experiment genes responsible for resistance would be identified in the Asian honey bee and would then be used to identify similar genes in the European honey bee. Hives infested with the Varroa mite would be tested to ascertain the levels of up regulation and down regulation of the target genes. The hypothesis is that various genes will be up and down regulated in both species, not necessarily the same ones. RT PCR would be used to identify the alleles responsible for immunity in both species. Once resistant strains of Apis Mellifera have been identified they would be tested for resistance via exposure to the Varroa mite. The discovery of resistant strains of Apis Mellifera would allow for selective breeding to be carried out to increase the species numbers, which is why this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(Meleis, 2012, p. 173) The concept of caring is central within the nursing profession and practice. Without thinking about it, nurses care deeply for their patients, and in return, find meaning every day. After reviewing the four previously mentioned grand nursing theorists, I believe Imogene King s views and philosophy of nursing is most congruent with my personal ideas regarding nursing. Without the process of setting goals, a nurse is unable to gauge or know where their patients care is headed. When nurses, such as myself, set mutually agreed upon goals for their patients, they can evaluate progress, as well as plan ahead in the patient s care. Shakespeare s plethora of works provide information about his thoughts on society during his life. Many events and topics that are seen in modern culture are relatable to events that occurred during Shakespeare s life, such as government, assassinations, and controversies. Shakespeare s characters from his many plays reflect his thoughts and provide an instant ability to connect modern culture back through Shakespeare s writing. • 25. Importance Of Adrc Based Lfc Of Interconnected Power System PhD Research Proposal School of Engineering Information Technology UNSW, Canberra, Australia Proposed Supervisor: Dr. Hemanshu Pota, UNSW, Canberra, Australia Applicant: Md. Mijanur Rahman Title: Determination the response characteristics of ADRC based LFC of Interconnected Power System. Introduction: The control of active power and frequency in a power system is referred to as load frequency control (LFC). Stable operation of interconnected power system requires both constant frequency and constant tile line power exchange [1]. An area control error (ACE), defined as a linear combination of tie line power and frequency deviations, is taken as the controlled output of LFC. LFC regulates ACE to zero such that frequency and tie line power errors are forced to zeros. PID controller is widely used in LFC due to its simplicity but is gives long settling time and produces large frequency deviation [2]. In recent years, active disturbance rejection control (ADRC) developed by J. Han [3] and modified by Z. Gao [4, 5] has been proposed for the LFC controller [6 9]. ADRC has been studied for LFC of Bangladesh Power System (BPS) [6]. The work proposes feedback connections from load rich area to generation rich area by considering load change in a single area only, not simultaneous load change in all areas. Tie line power exchange of a power system is inversely proportional with the reactance of transmission line [10]. In [11], it is described that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Devolution And The Scottish Parliament Essay Within the United Kingdom, a recurring issue has been raised regarding the political position of Scotland and how the Scottish Parliament could better govern the country. To establish whether the quality of life could be improved for the Scottish people, key events, devolution, and the Scottish Parliament must be evaluated and analysed. The argument for greater power in decision making and the ability to implement change for the citizens of Scotland, has been central to Scottish politics for some time. The process of establishing devolution for Scotland began with the Scotland Act 1978, which made way for a referendum on devolution and attempted to gain more power and legislature abilities for Scotland. The rise of the SNP forced the Labour Government of James Callaghan to react. The terms of this Act stated 40% of the entire electorate had to vote yes for devolution and the establishment of a Scottish Assembly, this included those who did not vote which were counted as a no vote. The 1979 Referendum, on 1st March, saw a majority of 52% in favour of devolution, to 48% against. At first glance it appears Scotland was successful in its referendum, however only 32.9% of the electorate had joined the majority, meaning the 40% required to achieve devolution was not met. These are few examples of mandatory drug testing in high schools athletics and why it is needed across the country. Mandatory drug testing for high school athletes should be required because it decreases drug use in schools. By having mandatory drug testing in schools the risk for youth becoming addicted to drugs is lowered. It holds plethoras of secrets and has no rival to match its ability. No other single entity within this world has the ability to change and morph truth. What is written by the victors is the truth told, and in most cases, a stretched truth can become actual fact. But, while the victors may be able to write the world s past, they will never be able to write individual truth and perspective. The most complex stories the world will ever know lie are seen through each pair of eyes. Each human has their own story, perspective, and truth that only they will be able know. Each unique individual has the ability to write their own past and personal set of beliefs. And most importantly, each person chooses what they fight for. All of this comes together to create the complexity hidden within the book Dawn by Elie Wiesel. His main character, Elijah, is apart of a revolutionary force in Palestine fighting for the freedom of his people. To him and his comrades, they are the patriots, the freedom fighters, the light to their people, but to the British, their captors, they are a disease in the world, blight to the crops, and most importantly terrorists. While these two perspectives are clashing on the battlefield fighting for the right to the land of Palestine they are also fighting to write history. Even more than on the battlefield, the ... Syntax And Diction In My Papa s Waltz By Theodore Roethke The controversial poem, My Papa s Waltz by Theodore Roethke has spurred passionate academic debate from professors, scholars, and students alike; the imagery, syntax, and diction of the poem clearly support the interpretation that Roethke writes My Papa s Waltz to reminisce on a bittersweet memory with his father. His unclear commemoration has sparked a divide on what the true purpose of the poem is. Some may argue the poem s purpose is to shine light on the subject of abuse, whereas others believe the father and son were sharing a moment while roughly playing. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The main form of syntax that Roethke uses is rhyme scheme. My Papa s Waltz contains a simple ABAB rhyme scheme, in which many slant rhymes are used; further, this makes the poem sound similar to the way a song would. Notably, waltzes are guided dances... just as the father in My Papa s Waltz, guided his son through life. Yet, it is also important to note that waltzes are meant to be simple, swift, and loving. Although waltzes are described as these things, Roethke s childhood is described as a waltz gone wrong. He makes it obvious he faces abuse and the effects of alcoholism in his early life. As stated, the rhyme scheme used by Roethke helps develop the true main idea of this poem by shaping it as it were a song, more specifically a waltz. If the poem, My Papa s Waltz, was a song, it would be a pessimistic and depressing one. Clearly, Roethke s unfortunate experiences portrayed by using syntax make us one step closer to discovery the real purpose of the poem. In short, the syntax of this story shapes its meaning through rhyme scheme. Diction is arguably the most important literary device carried throughout the duration of this poem. Many readers were disoriented by the use of Roethke s word choice, yet it is arguably the most indisputable piece of evidence used to portray the background of abuse in the author s poem.
