Beethoven Moonlight Sonata Essay
baseball is purer than life

Piano Sonata No. 14 Moonlight Sonata Music has been surrounding the human race since nature itself
whistled through the earth s first oak leaves. Throughout the centuries upon centuries of existence,
music has developed and adapted into what plays today through car radios across the world. Ludwig
van Beethoven himself helped pioneer music into what we understand of it in today s day and age.
Piano Sonata No. 14 commonly referred to as the Moonlight Sonata is the perfect example of a
musical cairn. This piece has three individual movements that can stand on their own, yet turn the
sonata as a whole into a masterpiece, speaks through both profundity and grace, and retains many of
the musical elements that cause sonatas such as this to maintain relevancy throughout the test of time.
Moonlight Sonata is really a composition of three movements that keep the piece interesting. The first
movement, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the second movement, Allegretto, the listener will develop a calm and relaxing demeanor.
Beethoven implements the key of Db major, which is recognized worldwide as the standard parallel to
C# minor, the prior key. What this means is that after the mysteriousness and suspense of Adagio
Sostenuto, Beethoven turns the next movement into the exact opposite. What was slow is now fast;
mystery is now understanding; cringing is now comfort. Most importantly, what was mournful is now
buoyant. All of this is changed simply because of the transition from C# minor to Db major. The
sostenuto is fully resolved unexpectedly, and the cheerful disposition is maintained by sforzandos and
forte pianos, both of these causing sudden spurts of joyful loudness, strategically placed throughout

As a result, the correlation between job satisfaction and job performance is also rather strong
(Robbins, 2007). However, George and Jones (2008, p93) pointed out: job satisfaction is not
meaningfully associated with job performance . A study that was conducted by Iaffaldano and
Muchinsky (1985) in the 1980s in this area concluded that job satisfaction only accounted for 2
percent of the difference in performance levels across employees. Another more recent review
indicated a very similar result that job satisfaction only accounted for 3 percent of the difference in
performance level across employees. (Judge, Thoresen, et al., 2001) George and Jones (2008) also
mentioned that work attitudes such as job satisfaction affect work behaviours only when employees
are free to vary their behaviours. The study suggested that most of the employees are not free to vary
their behaviours at work because organizations spend a considerable amount of time and effort to
ensure that members perform their assigned duties dependably regardless of whether they like their
jobs or not. However, it is worth mentioning that the hospitality industry might be an exception to this
rule simply because the work attitudes of the employees account for a very heavy portion of the level
of the service in delivering satisfaction to

Prior to this, there were even excavators whose arms and its mechanism for digging were run by
cables, running along pulley systems. Excavators have a wide variety of uses and can be customized
to fit the desired job. The customization of an excavator involves changing of the bucket or adding
hydraulic attachments. The standard bucket can be changed with various sizes of different types of
buckets (ditch/trench cleaning) and other attachments include augers, hammers, vibratory compactors,
dozers, breakers, grapples, thumbs, clamshells, wood clippers, brush cutters and concrete crushers.
Excavators are used in digging of trenches, holes for foundations beams, general construction or even
demolition of old buildings, sewage works, road widening works, pipe laying and rock breaking and
dragging; resources mining which include overburden, removal in coal mining, gravel collection;
forestry works which entails timber handling and prune off work; metal recycling which involves slag
handling and scrap handling; brush cutting with hydraulic attachments, general grading and
landscaping. To assist in understanding the basis of operation of the excavator, an article on hydraulics
was used. This article gave a general understanding of the principles governing the transmission of
pressure due to hydraulics and its widespread application. The basic idea behind any

Abstract
Steve Cowan is the owner of a distribution company of salon hair products. The company,
Professional Salon Concepts, (PSC) was growing and decided to upgrade their AIS to support the
demands of the company. Steve hired Mike, his brother in law to assist him and the two of them began
to research the different products available believing they could better determine the needs of the
company than a consultant could. After a short time they bought first one and then changing their
minds and bought a second system. After a short training period the new system was installed with
some very problematic first few days. Eventually the system was up ... Show more content on

Missing Features
How could PSC have avoided the problem of the missing features? If PSC had gotten RFPs the
problem of missing features in the system they chose would have been eliminated during the vendor
selection process. However, in the route they did take those features that were important to Steve but
were not included in the AIS could have been included by having a systems requirements list and a
written contract with the specifications explicitly written out.
Conversion and Reporting
How could PSC have avoided some of the conversion and reporting problems it faced? As I stated
before, more time was needed in the testing and training portion of the conversion before the new AIS
went online. One trick I learned from our own system change at the city I work in is to train a few
operators on the new systems during the testing phase and then have them train a few more in their
own departments. By using your own employees to train each other they are gaining a better
understanding of how the system works. This way on the day of the change you have more people
who understand the system and how to fix or correct the things that can go wrong. The more people
you can have trained this way before the system change the better off you will be at the critical
moment.

Analyzing Mexican Culture Of Mexico
Analyzing Mexican Culture Directly south of the United States is over 761,000 square miles of land.
It consists of beautiful beaches, high mountains, low coastal plains, high plateaus, and multiple
deserts. Divided into 31 states and 1 federal district, the vast area of land is home to more Spanish
speakers than any other nation in the world. This country, The Estados Unidos Mexicanos (Mexico),
has acquired a rich history, retained government that has remained optimistic about the future, despite
facing frequent hardships, and the influence of past culture remains obvious. The first major
civilization in Mexico, the Olmec, dates back to 1200 BC. They resided in the southern regions of
present day Mexico, and spent the majority of their time nurturing crops, such as corn, beans, chili
peppers, and cotton. They recorded their culture s history using graphic symbols, and took part in
creating fine art and pottery. In 400 BC, the Olmec civilization died out, which gave way to multiple
other civilizations; the 3 most notable are the Mayans, Toltecs, and Aztecs. The Mayans, often
remembered for their intellect, also produced admirable pottery and art. Their arithmetic, writing,
astronomy, and architecture skills surpassed that of their predecessors. The Mayans developed an
extremely accurate calendar, which divided a year into 365 days (Tondering). In addition, they built
large pyramids to reference as calendars. Many of these pyramids remain in Mexico today. One of

The resort provides an excellent service and the facilities are one of a kind but, there is a vast amount

Character Development In The Call Of The Wild
Structures And Style Enhance Theme
Once you begin a book, you re thrown into a story. As you read you begin to see the true meaning of
the book. You see the theme. Character development shows you how the character progressed
throughout the story and changed to enhances the theme. Plot events show the character s reaction to
an event to enhance the theme. Setting puts the character in a place that they have to adapt to, which
helps bring out the theme. Although each book has its very own unique theme, all authors use
character development, plot events, and setting to express the theme. Character development is one
structure authors use to express the theme. In Call of the Wild Buck, a domesticated Scottish shepherd
dog, became a primitive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And strange Buck was to him, for of the many Southland dogs he had known, not one had shown up
worthily in camp and on trail. They were all too soft, dying under the toil, the frost, and starvation.
Buck was the exception. He alone endured and prospered, matching the husky in strength, savagery,
and cunning. Then he was a masterful dog, and what made him dangerous was the fact that the club of
the man in the red sweater had knocked all blind pluck and rashness out of his desire for mastery. He
was preeminently cunning, and could bide his time with a patience that was nothing less than
primitive (London 28). This quote from Call of the Wild by Jack London shows the theme of
primitivity. Buck has endured what nature has thrown at him. He will fight for survival until he has no
more fight left in him. His transition from being domesticated to fending for himself, had brought out
the dormant instincts in him. There he d been, denying The Wave could hurt anyone, and at the same
time he d hurt Laurie, his own girlfriend, in the name of The Wave (Strasser). This quote from The
Wave shows the theme of power. David hit Laurie, his girlfriend. He felt it was within his power to
push Laurie out of danger. There was no one else but David s friend that was there. He wouldn t have
pushed her in school. Not being in school allowed him to push her without any consequences. The

Military Services Act
Essay Title: Military Services Act In 1917 during WW1, the Canadian government justified in
enacting the Military Services Act to register and conscript men for war. Almost all French Canadians
opposed conscription because they felt they had no loyalty to France and Britain. Other Canadians
were at ease with the conscription as they supported the British Empire. The farmers, union heads, and
pacifists were all opposed of the conscription like the French Canadians. I believe the Military
Services Act was not the best choice because it ripped up the relations between the English and the
French Canadians, it eliminated the freedom of the people by forcing them to go to war, and caused a
riot in Quebec City leading to a few deaths. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Quebec City mayor sent reinforcements from Ottawa to help control the rioting, which had been
going on for two days. On the Easter Monday the crowds organized against the military presence in
the city. Armed rioters started to fire at the troops and vise versa. There was an estimated four men
killed by the fire and dozens injured. These riots represent one of the most violent disturbances in
Canadian history. These riots erupted over conscription, which grew from how things were before in
French Canadian nationalism. The military crackdown that lasted in Quebec until the end of the war
resulted in an increase in state power in the growing of French Canadian nationalism. These riots over
the conscription and the French Canadians sticking to their ways lead to a many difficult and
unpleasant times in Quebec. The Military Services Act had more cons than pros as it destroyed the
relationship of the English Canadians and the French Canadians, it limited the freedom of the males
by forcing them to attend war and fight, and also caused a dangerous and damaging riot in Quebec. By
the spring of 1918, the government had amended the Military Services Act so that there were no
exemptions. This left many English Canadians opposed. The war ended within a few months but the
issue left Canadians divided and distrustful of their government. Then in 1920 Borden retired and
conservatives were shut out of Quebec for the next fifty years. The conscription crisis stuck

So far in this course we have discussed how some important aspects of human societies such as
religion, agriculture and hierarchy emerged. However, if we want to provide a full account of human
history, we have to explain how consciousness would ever exist, without which human beings could
never establish any institutions at all, not to mention all these complex features. Since Rene Descartes,
a cohort of philosophers have explored this topic. Yet disappointingly, they have failed to reach a
consensus just as in many other philosophical inquiries. In his book, Nagel ambitiously aspires to
address not merely the origin of consciousness but also its relation to the ultimate question concerning
the human existence. A satisfactory ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Suppose consciousness is a bowl of soup. Although no one yet has a clear idea what this soup is made
of, simple or complicated, it must have a recipe. While an layman can not figure that out after three
bowls, a gourmet might be able to tell at the first sip. Correspondingly, our not deep enough physics
knowledge should be held accountable for our inability to find out the ingredient of consciousness.
Nagel disagrees with reductionists: It is prima facie highly implausible that life as we know it is the
result of a sequence of physical accidents together with the mechanism of natural selection (Nagel, 6).
The final phase of reductionism thinking is that it eventually reached a point where there is nothing
more to be said, except this is just how things are . This logic does not explain anything. It is absurd to
call an equation, such as X+Y+Z=consciousness, whose one side is all unknowns, an explanation. By
contrast, a holistic or emergent answer to the constitutive question comes to seem increasingly more
likely than a reductive one as we move up from physical organisms to consciousness. An emergent
view insists that mental character of the complex organisms governed by principles specifically
linking mental states and processes to the complex physical functioning of those organisms to their
central nervous systems in particular, in the case of humans and creatures somewhat like them. The
difference from a reductive account is

Growing Up In Ancient Hawaiian Culture
Growing up in an environment filled with a variety of cultures, there are words that mean different
things and are used in different ways. In Hawaii, there is an official language, but there is also a slang
language, pidgin , that was used during the era where sugar plantations were very popular. They
created this language so that people of different ethnicities could communicate with one another as
they traveled from other countries such as, Japan, China, Philippines, and Korea. Today, pidgin and
the Native Hawaiian language are used amongst the locals allowing us to connect on another level by
keeping our culture alive. Some words, however; have changed since ancestral times from something
innocent to something derogatory and insulting. The word, haole , pronounced hau lay , was used to
describe Captain Cook and his men, today; this word is used to describe Caucasian people and is used
as an insult amongst one another. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

no relations with race as racism was not a traditional Hawaiian way of thinking. Haole was just used

Night Reflection Paper
The Holocaust, lasting from 1933 to 1945, was a period of time when German Nazis sent Jews,
Gypsies, and others ostracized by the Nazis to concentration camps. They were sent to die, and in turn
the prisoners got their identity stripped from them. Elie Wiesel, a survivor of the Holocaust was 15
when his town was relocated to the camp Auschwitz. For 11 months, Elie moved from one camp to the
next, escaping Death with the skin of his teeth each time. After being liberated in April 1945, Elie
went on to write books about his experience, and to even win a Nobel Peace Prize in 1986. In Elie s
book Night, he writes about his identity being stripped from himself by the SS officers working in the
concentration camps. Right from the first few days at camp, Elie witnessed how SS officers decided
who got to live and die merely by the smallest discrepancy in their posture, whether it was a quivering
finger on the trigger, or the brisk flick of a baton, telling prisoners which side of a forked path to
follow; one leading to the crematorium. With his father, Elie met Dr. Mengele at the center of a
crossroad; he was holding a conductor s baton and was surrounded by officers. The baton was moving
constantly, sometimes to the right, sometimes to the left (Wiesel 31). Dr. Mengele got to choose life or
death of the prisoners merely by his own preference, making the prisoners seem nothing more than
play pretend dolls or wide eyed pigs on their way to the slaughterhouse. After being assigned

Fear Manifests In Lord Of The Flies
Fear Manifests Fear is the most powerful thing in the universe. It can bring grown men to tears and
tear apart nations. In Lord of the Flies by William Golding, a rescue plane full of schoolboys crashes
on a deserted island. Without any adults, the children must maintain order, find supplies to survive and
keep hope of being rescued while dealing with their own struggles and suspicions. Throughout their
time on the island, the boys are overcome by fear which shows that in a time of weakness people are
capable of committing inhumane actions. The fear the boys acquire on the island becomes detrimental
to their self worth and their ability to function normally. A thin wail out of the darkness chilled them
and set them grabbing for each other. Then the wairl rose, remote and inearthly, and turned to an
inarticulate gibbering. Percival Wemys Madison of the Vicarage, Harcourt St. Anthony, lying in the
long grass, was living through circumstances in which the incantation of his address was powerless to
help him (94). After all the time the boys spend on the island they lose their sense of who they are. As
kids, they take pride on where they are from and it helps bring them comfort throughout their troubles.
But, as time goes, on they start to forget who they are and it becomes unimportant. The way Percival
feels shows us how it affects them. The kids, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the flames saying that they were busy about the tent and that they drew their eyes gives a perception

Catcher In The Rye By JD Salinger
In Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger, Holden s history teacher advises Holden, Life is a game, boy.
Life is a game that one plays according to the rules. This scene occurs when Holden visits Spencer
after getting the ax or an expulsion. Therefore, this quotation emphasizes the irony of Holden s
rejection of rules set up by phony adults. Holden knows he cannot run away from his role in society
forever, and Spencer is the significant character that reminds Holden. The style of writing is a first
person perspective because Salinger wants the reader to view events from Holden s perspective, which
allows reader to understand Holden s feelings. Hence, this quote helps the reader understand the
theme, people cannot escape from society s rules and traditions even though the rules seem outdated
by using Spencer s metaphor, Life is a game because society s rules are set like a game s rules are

Did the Development in European Warfare During the...
Did the development in European warfare during the Sixteenth Century amount to a Military
Revolution ?
By the Sixteenth century, Luther had successfully challenged the Catholic Church from 1517 and
Copernicus had declared a solar centric universe in 1543. These are both historical events in early
modern Europe. The dramatic changes in Military warfare are also seen as key to European
developments in separating the medieval society from the Modern. The military developments change
that art and organisation of warfare effecting the development of the early modern European state. The
Sixteenth Century brings about new technology, weapons, tactics and armies that some see a resulting
in a European Military Revolution .

Where European military experts, engineers, captains and intellectuals recreated the art of war.
Without Military thinkers such as Gonzalo de Cordoba, Maurice of Orange and Gustavus Adolphus
the military changes would never have taken place. Maurice of Orange had small units of highly
trained soldier in manoeuvres that need many more officers and NCOs to lead them. Gustav Adolf
improved fire discipline and the long practise in arms. Also enforces the importance of military
education and mathematics in European warfare.
Strategy was another major area of revolution in military Europe in the sixteenth century. With the
development of new soldier and armies strategies become more ambitious. Ruler were more confident
about campaigning against many different armies at the same time and took part in decisive battles
without the fear that mercenary soldier would run away. Gustavus Adolphus was one of the first to put
these new strategic concepts to the test according to the historian Roberts8. He returns to a linear
formation for shot armed infantry and an aggressive style of charge for the cavalry.
However strategic development does not confirm the argument that a Military revolution took place in
sixteenth century Europe. There were changes but rather evolutionary and progressive then that of a
revolution. Gustavus Adolphus strategic warfare may not be seen as

The Effect Of Ph On The Rate Of Photosynthesis
Maggie Morris
Leaf Disks: The Rise from Bottom to Top
ABSTRACT
This experiment demonstrates the effects of pH on the rate of photosynthesis by examining the
behavior of leaf disks in different pH solutions under light. In this experiment, we used five different
pH levels: pH 5, pH 6, pH 7, pH 8 and pH 9. These solutions were created using a combination of
hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide. Spinancia olcerea or spinach, leaves were used in the
experiment to examine the effects of pH on the rate of photosynthesis. The rate of photosynthesis was
measured by counting the number of leaf disks that rose to the surface of the solution after each
minute. In acidic solutions, the rate of photosynthesis increased while in basic solutions, the rate of

DEFINING THE PROBLEM AND SELECTING VARIABLES The intention of this experiment is to
determine the effects of pH on the rate of photosynthesis in living leaves. Photosynthesis is a process
by which plants convert light energy captured from the sun into chemical energy which they use to
perform various plant functions. During the photosynthesis process, light, carbon dioxide, and water
react to produce products: sugar and oxygen. The equation for photosynthesis is:
Photosynthesis occurs in the palisade mesophyll of plant leaves. During photosynthesis, carbon
dioxide is broken up into 6 carbon for the sugar molecule and 12 oxygen. In this lab, I determined the

The Character Of Linda From Blood Simple, By Frances...
The character of Linda is very similar to the character of Abby from Blood Simple, who was also
portrayed by Frances McDormand. Abby is described as the woman whose weakness and
dissatisfaction set the story in motion. She saves herself against all odds, but this is more of a matter of
random good fortune than of either sangfroid or intelligence (16 17). A similar case could be made for
Linda. Linda s dissatisfaction with her body and need to reinvent herself drives the plot as she
desperately tries to acquire money to pay for her plastic surgeries. She fails to recognize that the intel
she thinks she has is completely useless, and she still selfishly pushes onwards coming up with plan
after plan, without even realizing the deadly full extent of her actions.
Alan Woolfolk comments in Deceit, Desire, and Dark Comedy: Postmodern Dead Ends in Blood
Simple that in Blood Simple, Abby s misunderstanding...[made] her an unintentional femme fatale
(Woolfolk 88). This would also make Linda the unintentional femme fatale in Burn After Reading
since she inadvertently leads to the downfall of Ted, Osbourne, Harry, and Chad. Ted and Chad are
both killed while on the mission to secure money for Linda s surgeries. Osbourne is put into a coma
because he tried to kill Ted, who was only at Osbourne s house out of his love for Linda. Harry also
goes crazy in part because of Linda s cluelessness. While Linda may indeed be clueless, her actions
drive the plot of the film and

Taking a Look at Harriet Tubman
Eagle success biography paper
Harriet Tubman Harriet not only had dream but she was determined to stand up for what she had
believed. Harriet was a brave young girl who had escaped slavery at a young age and wanted to help
others get out of that life just as she did, and that s what I am going to be telling you today.
At first, In my research I couldn t find any evidence on which exact day harriet was born but i could
find that she was born around 1820 s near Dorchester County on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, near
the town of Cambridge (graceproducts.com). Harriet was given the name Araminta Ross later that
year she had taken on her mother s name of Harriet. When she had turned six she had been taken ten
miles to live with James Cook. His wife who was a weaver was to teach her the trade of weaving.
Cook had her work on the trapline to help catch wild animals. He had to work the lines while she was
ill with the measles, and catching cold from wading in the water in the condition, she grew very sick. I
had reasoned this out in my mind; there was one of two things I had a right to, liberty, or death; if I
could not have one, I would have the other; for no man should take me alive; I should fight for my
liberty as long as my strength lasted, and when the time came for me to go, the Lord would let them
take me. Harriet Tubman (graceproducts.com).

So we stayed in Nice for two weeks, joined a beach club on the Mediterranean for eleven dollars each,
and had a ball, Grandpa said, afterwards taking a deep breath with his mouth open and his eyes closed.
We were just about ready to run out of money when we decided to go to a casino in Monaco, which
was right next to Nice you could walk there. We took whatever cash we had and put it on the roulette
wheel on the black. I m nowhere near an expert when it comes to casino games, I replied while
scratching my right elbow with my left hand. But, I used to play simulated roulette years ago on my
old PC, and if my facts aren t off it s fifty fifty if you bet red or black on a roulette wheel. It doesn t
appear to me as though it d make one lick of difference what color someone chose as far as the odds.
Any reason you chose black? No particular reason, Grandpa said while pushing his hair backwards
with his right hand and scratching the top of it with the left. You re right the color makes no
difference. There are eighteen red and eighteen black numbers in a game of roulette, which means an
eighteen in thirty seven chance for a wheel with no double zero and a nine in nineteen chance for one
with two greens. You get paid one to one for your nine to ten in Las Vegas casinos and those in other
states, so you lose the difference on average. Grandpa went on to explain how, if you bet red or black

The Political Establishment in Germany Succeeded in...
The political establishment in Germany succeeded in maintaining the political status quo through a
policy of moderate reform. How far do you agree with this statement?
The political establishment during the Second Reich in Germany were successful in maintaining the
political status quo between the years 1871 and 1918. It can be argued however, that they were
successful in doing so through more than just a policy of moderate reform. During these years,
Germany abided by a rigid constitution which allowed power to ultimately be firmly held in the hands
of the Kaiser. A great sense of nationalism and patriotism also existed in Germany and the vast
majority of the German population heavily valued the Kaiser. Furthermore, the constitution ... Show

In 1902, during Von Bulow s chancellorship, the Tariff Law was introduced which put higher duties on
imported grain and thus raised food prices. Despite the Kaiser heavily approving of the Tariff Law, it
served to turn worker support away from the Kaiser s system and to the SPD. This can be seen in the
sharp rise of votes in the 1903 general election. This may suggest that moderate reform was never the
mechanism to keep power in the hands of the old elites or maintain the status quo. However, the threat
of Socialism was undoubtedly overestimated by the political establishment who were under the
misconception that the Socialist movement was wholly revolutionary. It may therefore be argued that
since the threat of the socialists was smaller than perceived, it was in fact the existing structures of the
Kaiserreich that maintained the political status quo.
It could be argued that under Bulow s chancellorship, the fact that he carried such an interest and
passion in foreign policy, allowed stability to remain as policies such as Weltpolitik and
Sammlungspolitik helped to reduce conflicting interests on the domestic front. However, Bulow was
confronted with the difficulty of financing Weltpolitik as the government had been in deficit since
1900. Bulow s proposition to raise indirect taxes and introduce an inheritance tax created immediate
opposition. Bulow proceeded to form

A Madman s Diary By Lu Xun
Imagine a world where it s perfectly normal to eat people with no consequences. Where something
completely out of the ordinary becomes unusually normal. Chinese culture is purely based on
everyday life and morality inside the lives of their followers. Having a deep connection to your ethics
links to the human aspect of Chinese culture (Violatti). Filial piety plays a vital role because the
Chinese believe how one treats one s elders reveals a lot about oneself (¨Filial Piety in Chinese
Culture¨). In A Madman s Diary , the impetuosity for rebellion drives the storyline within the main
character. The madman is the only individual that has an amiss, rather than the conventional view on
the way society treats inferiors. Xun equates cannibalism allegorically with the dismantling of

madman considers his brother s perspective significantly. His brother agrees with the cannibalism
unknowingly, changing his brother´s perspective on him. Nevertheless, this changes relationship
structure because all of a sudden the madman realizes that his own family is just as abominable. The
madman is left questioning normal versus what is the right thing to do or believe. To sum up, rebellion

Essay On Personal Reflection
Introduction Learning and participating in workshops provides one with an opportunity to gain
knowledge. The knowledge gained is beneficial to the individual when put into practice, otherwise,
that knowledge is futile. However, one can only apply the information gained through better
information processing and synthesis. One of the approaches used in evaluating the effectiveness of
the information gained involves undertaking an in depth personal reflection. The purpose of this
investigation is to conduct an in depth personal reflection on one area of personal strength emanating
from the workshops carried out throughout the year. Definition of Personal Strength To evaluate one s
strengths, one needs to undertake a range of tests. Already, there exist a plethora of approaches to
evaluate the strengths within oneself. Some of these tests include personal intuitions and preferences.
However, undertaking a professional evaluation is important to ensure consistency. One of the most
important tools to evaluate one s personal strengths is the Myers Briggs Type Indicators (Bower 2015;
Culp Smith 2009; Das Sharma, 2015). In particular, this evaluation protocol allows an individual to
see the person within other than the behavior. Primarily, the inner personality influences the outward
behavior. Moreover, the environment plays an important role in the behavioral approach.
Consequently, performing a focused investigation provides a better evaluation metric. Furthermore,
the Myers Briggs Type Indicator allows an individual to conceptualize both internal and external
factors and the decisions made under such environments. After a careful evaluation, I have realized
that organization or orderliness is my personal strength. In part, planning plays a central role in most
of the decisions made (Cui Wu 2016). Essentially, I feel that whenever the time is spent on the
planning stage, the implementation and evaluation of a process become easier. However, failure to
plan leads to delays in the implementation process. Particularly, a lot of delays in the implementation
process are attributable to the order of activities. In other cases, people try to undertake more than one
activity simultaneously as a time saving strategy.

environment with colorful elements such as the rainbow track and surroundings, and the trumpet and

rainbow filter creates a lively atmosphere by placing the audience in a visually busy setting. The train
speeds by rainbow rural and urban areas, preparing the audience for the shots of the two women in
pastoral and urban areas. The second and third shots introduce the female protagonists: the blonde
character causes surprise when she jumps into the frame and the second causes curiosity. The sound
effect when the blonde actress jumps into the frame is startling, creating a strange relationship
between the actress and the audience because of her unexplained sudden presence. Her disoriented
acting helps to strengthen this connection because the audience is equally disoriented. The eleven

Issues warranting a need for change are then brought before an internal review committee. A fourth

Analysis Of The Film Moonlight
Theorist Vsevolod Pudovkin claims that narrative films are mainly a product of construction and
cautious compilations of selections of images that have been shot (Renée).
Thus, editing enhances the narrative and enables the viewers to better understand and connect with the
characters. This idea is apparent in the film Moonlight (2016), directed by Barry Jenkins, surrounding
a young black man, Chiron s journey to adulthood. With a limited amount of dialogue in the film, the
filmmakers attempt to show, instead of tell the audience, the narrative. Therefore, the film is formally
creative, utilizing various cinematic techniques such as, twirling camera angels, non sync sound, and
bold colors to engulf the audience. One particular example of the filmmakers decision is the pivotal
diner scene between Chiron and his childhood friend, Kevin.
In the diner scene, the personal relationship between Chiron and Kevin is showcased. Jenkins
immediately cuts to Chiron exiting his car with loud rap music blaring, purposefully illustrating the
world in which he currently resides. However, upon entering the diner, the atmosphere immediately
shifts to a calm and intimate setting with subdued sultry music. The director intentionally included
music that would establish the tone of the scene, while accurately depicting the distinct places these
characters represent. Furthermore, with the two long takes at the beginning, the viewer is purposefully
given time to become familiar with the new

love. Along with these conflicts, Hawthorne uses the theme of love to pose the question of whether or
not love is worth fighting for as well as critiquing a tragic flaw in romantic relationships. These
elements combine together to make a compelling argument that love is simply not worth the struggle
it imposes. The first conflict that arises in the short story is the internal conflict of Giovanni. Giovanni
moves from his home in order to study at the University of Padua and sees Beatrice Rappaccini
underneath the window of his new home. The conflict Giovanni faces stems from his affection and
blooming love for Beatrice. Giovanni sees Beatrice s beauty as brilliant, so vivid in its character, that
she glowed amid the sunlight (pg. 7). However, her beauty is rivaled by her horror. Whenever a
creature is near her breath, it dies. Giovanni begins questioning whether or not loving Beatrice is a
wise decision. Her horror keeps him at bay while her beauty and her personality draw him in closer.
The second conflict that

Cinderell Sibling Rivalry And Oedipal Conflicts

Cinderella : A Story of Sibling Rivalry and Oedipal Conflicts Summary Cinderella : A Story of Sibling
Rivalry and Oedipal Conflicts was written by Bruno Bettelheim and states that sibling rivalry is the
most prominent theme of the classic story Cinderella. This rivalry, however, possibly creates issues for
kids. By seeing the damsel in distress overcome her challenges, kids subconsciously believe this will
happen to them as well, and whether accepted or denied, this opinion raises the interests of many
readers. The main concept of the story Cinderella has been passed down for generations and has come
to mean many things. Parallels to the modern day story are found

Memoirs of Princess Dashkova
The Memoirs of Princess Dashkova Analysis Eloquent, brilliant, unorthodox, poise, and loyal all of
these unique characteristics allowed Dashkova to gain the highest regard among the members of the
elite society and more importantly, to earn the respect of Catherine the Great. Dashkova is a peculiar
female character. She s fully narcissistic, but at the same time, rejects her recognition and claims
herself as unworthy of the credits Catherine II had given her. In her autobiography The Memoirs of
Princess Dashkova, Dashkova justifies her role as a noble woman, her early life contribution in
helping Catherine rise to the throne, and the frugal life she bore as a widow and a mother of two.
Dashkova voiced her significance in a society where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Dashkova s memoir, she gave credits to her large role in the plot of overthrowing Peter III;
however, Catherine disagreed. She rebutted that it was her plan of action after the death of the
Empress Elizabeth and the vision of the coup was established long ago. My initial observation of
Dashkova is her ability to be extraordinary despite her difficult upbringing. Her intelligence was
compelling to the Empress Catherine and the men that she had encountered during her traveling.
Dashkova portrayed herself as a strong, versatile woman, who s not only different from most of the
women during the time period, but can also outperform her male counterparts in various tasks (e.g.
surgery, debate, carpenting, etc.) (pg. 144). She surprised the readers at the first moment when she met
Prince Dashkov, a Moscow man. She fell in love with him and got married at the age of 16. The
proposal was informal and emotional unlike the traditional arrangement with its strict regulations. Just
5 years after, Prince Dashkov passed away, leaving Dashkova 2 children and his mountainous
gambling debt. In the most hopeless scenario, Dashkova managed to raise her 2 children and provided
her son a wonderful education while still remaining faithful to the Empress Catherine II. She declared,
My own poverty affected me not at all (pg. 149). Ironically, as a member of the aristocratic class, she
wore nothing but the oldest clothes (pg. 64). According to Dashkova s

Maxwell s Equation Essay
INTRODUCTION
Maxwell s Equations are a set of four mathematical equations that provides the foundation to the
largely abstract concepts of electricity and magnetism. They are a mathematical condensation of all
the basic rules, by which electricity and magnetism function. Refer to Figure 1 for the equations.
Although James Clerk Maxwell himself only contributed to the last equation, his contribution led to
one of the most important discoveries in the history of science. However, it wasn t until 25 years later
that these equations were interpreted and used rightly by the rest of the world. On the right is an image
of Maxwell.
Maxwell s work as quoted by Einstein:
The formulation of Maxwell s equations is the most important event in physics since Newton s time,
not only because of their wealth of content, but also because they form a pattern for a new type of law

The equation is actually incomplete, and valid only for a long straight wire. An example to prove that
it s incomplete is given below.
Suppose a pot is taken and the exterior surface is considered the enclosed surface mentioned in the
law, and the circumference of the bottom is considered to be the closed curve. When the equation uses
the term i , it actually means the current enclosed within the path, piercing through the surface.
If the pot were shaped in such a way that the wire carrying current ended inside the pot after piercing
through and coming out, current enclosed would be 0. This either means that dl and the magnetic field
are always perpendicular (cosine 90 = 0), or that the magnetic field itself is 0. Both are impossible and
there lies the contradiction.
MAXWELL S CORRECTION
Maxwell corrected the equation by adding another term to it. Considering the above example, there is
a change in electric field as the current pierces through one surface of the pot and goes out through the
other. This field can be expresses

5 Places Research Paper
When I was younger I started to really look into traveling. I started watching videos of amazing places
all over the world. I watched videos of places like Madrid, Spain, Switzerland, The Netherlands,
Bangkok, Thailand, and Rome, Italy. I started to voice my opinions to my family and they really
supported me. Now, I have a Bucket List of the places I would list to go, and I can t wait to travel to
those 5 places. I once watched a video of a restaurant in Switzerland and I started to become
interested. The video was about how they put cheese on everything. It looked absolutely amazing and
I just wanted to learn more. I then saw another video of the view of a city in Switzerland and I was
hooked. It was one of the most beautiful sceneries I have ever seen. There were clouds in the sky and
it was rainy, but the grass was so green, it was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the movie/book, the couple goes to Amsterdam to visit. I was very intrigued after watching and
started looking into it. The city is quite beautiful and the director of the movie did a great job of
showing off the city. When I go there I want to go to the Anne Frank house and explore. I want to
walk down the streets of Amsterdam and take touristy pictures and just live up the experience. It
definitely a place everyone should want to visit. Bangkok, Thailand really caught my attention when I
saw a video of the street food in their markets. The video showed how busy the market was, and how
long the lines for some of the vendors were. The foods varied from fried squid, to different types of
ice cream. I also saw some pictures overlooking the city and it looked beautiful. I would love to go
and take all kinds of pictures of the market, so I could show everyone how different their culture is. I
believe that that is what I would like to do when I get older, take pictures of amazing places and show
people the beauty of different

Antagonistic Coevolution Between Bacterial And Phage...
Antagonistic Coevolution Between Bacterial and Phage Populations
PCB 4674
Fall 2016
Abstract
Often termed an evolutionary arms race, the enduring battle between bacterial and phage defenses
against one another has shed insight into the mechanisms behind coevolution, and how these
adaptations have led to diversification and speciation within both populations. Research into the
relationship has yielded evidence that antagonistic coevolution can be advantageous for both phage
and bacteria, often resulting in adaptations that would not have evolved by mutation through natural
selection alone.
This review provides background information on the relationship between bacteria and their phage,
elucidating some of the mechanisms behind antagonistic coevolution and the resulting adaptations
therein, and discusses the controversial use of phage therapy as treatment for some strains of antibiotic
resistant bacteria. Data extracted from a study utilizing a species of marine bacteria and phage is
provided as an example of a few basic adaptations behind coevolution and how they can lead to
diversification in both host and parasitoid defenses, and subsequently, their populations.
Introduction Bacteriophage, or simply phage, are obligate intracellular viruses that invade bacterial
cells and take over the cellular machinery to replicate their viral genome and create new viral progeny
via lysis of the bacterial host cell (Buckling and Rainey 2002). Phage have been identified as the

Washington Irving and Romanticism Essays
The short stories of Washington Irving are examples of the literary movement of Romanticism and its
characteristics which are evidenced in this author s works. These characteristics are sometimes found
in abundant quantities or limited amounts in each of his short stories. However, no matter what short
story Washington Irving wrote, the Age of Romanticism and its defining characteristics are found in
each of his selections. So, too, do each of the author s short stories present a unique study about the
author s intentions for creating his work. In Washington Irving s selection The Three Kings of
Bermuda , the author portrays tone in a way that he changes it often throughout his writing to help the
reader understand the emotion and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Romanticism as a conviction that intuition, imagination, and emotion are inferior to reason is often
thought as the best known characteristic. It was used to show the human abilities and the source for
the subjects. This helps us to understand the world around us and also how we take part in it.
Emotions were thought to be one of the main factors in place of logic and reason. People looked to
making music often to express feelings that were being felt. Washington s tone helps to convey the
emotion in this story. Washington changes the tone throughout the story to help the reader better
understand the emotion of this short story. He is a true enchanter, Irving states, whose spell operates
not only upon the sense, but upon the imagination and the heart. When they are stranded he uses tone
showing that they were happy and felt a sort of power that they were the kings of this island. Then he
changes it to anger and a fight for the ambergris when they discovered it. When the ambergris is taken
away from them by the new landowners, he shows the emotion of disappointment. The quote, All
kingdoms, however, are doomed to revolution, conclusion, or decay; and so it fared with the empire of
the three kings of Bermuda. is a powerful quote showing the emotion in Irving s tone. Romanticism as
a conviction that poetry is superior to science is a common characteristic because of the growing
popularity of poetry at the time. Many times the meaning

  • 2. Beethoven Moonlight Sonata Essay baseball is purer than life Jonathan Zajac Professor Palke 26 September 2014 1345 Words Piano Sonata No. 14 Moonlight Sonata Music has been surrounding the human race since nature itself whistled through the earth s first oak leaves. Throughout the centuries upon centuries of existence, music has developed and adapted into what plays today through car radios across the world. Ludwig van Beethoven himself helped pioneer music into what we understand of it in today s day and age. Piano Sonata No. 14 commonly referred to as the Moonlight Sonata is the perfect example of a musical cairn. This piece has three individual movements that can stand on their own, yet turn the sonata as a whole into a masterpiece, speaks through both profundity and grace, and retains many of the musical elements that cause sonatas such as this to maintain relevancy throughout the test of time. Moonlight Sonata is really a composition of three movements that keep the piece interesting. The first movement, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the second movement, Allegretto, the listener will develop a calm and relaxing demeanor. Beethoven implements the key of Db major, which is recognized worldwide as the standard parallel to C# minor, the prior key. What this means is that after the mysteriousness and suspense of Adagio Sostenuto, Beethoven turns the next movement into the exact opposite. What was slow is now fast; mystery is now understanding; cringing is now comfort. Most importantly, what was mournful is now buoyant. All of this is changed simply because of the transition from C# minor to Db major. The sostenuto is fully resolved unexpectedly, and the cheerful disposition is maintained by sforzandos and forte pianos, both of these causing sudden spurts of joyful loudness, strategically placed throughout the ... However, George and Jones (2008, p93) pointed out: job satisfaction is not meaningfully associated with job performance . A study that was conducted by Iaffaldano and Muchinsky (1985) in the 1980s in this area concluded that job satisfaction only accounted for 2 percent of the difference in performance levels across employees. Another more recent review indicated a very similar result that job satisfaction only accounted for 3 percent of the difference in performance level across employees. (Judge, Thoresen, et al., 2001) George and Jones (2008) also mentioned that work attitudes such as job satisfaction affect work behaviours only when employees are free to vary their behaviours. The study suggested that most of the employees are not free to vary their behaviours at work because organizations spend a considerable amount of time and effort to ensure that members perform their assigned duties dependably regardless of whether they like their jobs or not. However, it is worth mentioning that the hospitality industry might be an exception to this rule simply because the work attitudes of the employees account for a very heavy portion of the level of the service in delivering satisfaction to ... Steve hired Mike, his brother in law to assist him and the two of them began to research the different products available believing they could better determine the needs of the company than a consultant could. Missing Features How could PSC have avoided the problem of the missing features? If PSC had gotten RFPs the problem of missing features in the system they chose would have been eliminated during the vendor selection process. However, in the route they did take those features that were important to Steve but were not included in the AIS could have been included by having a systems requirements list and a written contract with the specifications explicitly written out. Conversion and Reporting How could PSC have avoided some of the conversion and reporting problems it faced? As I stated before, more time was needed in the testing and training portion of the conversion before the new AIS went online. One trick I learned from our own system change at the city I work in is to train a few operators on the new systems during the testing phase and then have them train a few more in their own departments. By using your own employees to train each other they are gaining a better understanding of how the system works. This way on the day of the change you have more people who understand the system and how to fix or correct the things that can go wrong. The more people you can have trained this way before the system change the better off you will be at the critical moment. Steve s Analysis Steve s analysis of the numbers is incomplete in my opinion. It consists of beautiful beaches, high mountains, low coastal plains, high plateaus, and multiple deserts. Divided into 31 states and 1 federal district, the vast area of land is home to more Spanish speakers than any other nation in the world. This country, The Estados Unidos Mexicanos (Mexico), has acquired a rich history, retained government that has remained optimistic about the future, despite facing frequent hardships, and the influence of past culture remains obvious. The first major civilization in Mexico, the Olmec, dates back to 1200 BC. They resided in the southern regions of present day Mexico, and spent the majority of their time nurturing crops, such as corn, beans, chili peppers, and cotton. They recorded their culture s history using graphic symbols, and took part in creating fine art and pottery. In 400 BC, the Olmec civilization died out, which gave way to multiple other civilizations; the 3 most notable are the Mayans, Toltecs, and Aztecs. The Mayans, often remembered for their intellect, also produced admirable pottery and art. Their arithmetic, writing, astronomy, and architecture skills surpassed that of their predecessors. The Mayans developed an extremely accurate calendar, which divided a year into 365 days (Tondering). In addition, they built large pyramids to reference as calendars. They were all too soft, dying under the toil, the frost, and starvation. Buck was the exception. He alone endured and prospered, matching the husky in strength, savagery, and cunning. Then he was a masterful dog, and what made him dangerous was the fact that the club of the man in the red sweater had knocked all blind pluck and rashness out of his desire for mastery. He was preeminently cunning, and could bide his time with a patience that was nothing less than primitive (London 28). This quote from Call of the Wild by Jack London shows the theme of primitivity. Buck has endured what nature has thrown at him. He will fight for survival until he has no more fight left in him. His transition from being domesticated to fending for himself, had brought out the dormant instincts in him. Almost all French Canadians opposed conscription because they felt they had no loyalty to France and Britain. Other Canadians were at ease with the conscription as they supported the British Empire. The farmers, union heads, and pacifists were all opposed of the conscription like the French Canadians. I believe the Military Services Act was not the best choice because it ripped up the relations between the English and the French Canadians, it eliminated the freedom of the people by forcing them to go to war, and caused a riot in Quebec City leading to a few deaths. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Quebec City mayor sent reinforcements from Ottawa to help control the rioting, which had been going on for two days. On the Easter Monday the crowds organized against the military presence in the city. Armed rioters started to fire at the troops and vise versa. There was an estimated four men killed by the fire and dozens injured. These riots represent one of the most violent disturbances in Canadian history. These riots erupted over conscription, which grew from how things were before in French Canadian nationalism. The military crackdown that lasted in Quebec until the end of the war resulted in an increase in state power in the growing of French Canadian nationalism. These riots over the conscription and the French Canadians sticking to their ways lead to a many difficult and unpleasant times in Quebec. The Military Services Act had more cons than pros as it destroyed the relationship of the English Canadians and the French Canadians, it limited the freedom of the males by forcing them to attend war and fight, and also caused a dangerous and damaging riot in Quebec. By the spring of 1918, the government had amended the Military Services Act so that there were no exemptions. This left many English Canadians opposed. The war ended within a few months but the issue left Canadians divided and distrustful of their government. Then in 1920 Borden retired and conservatives were shut out of Quebec for the next fifty years. The conscription crisis stuck ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

So far in this course we have discussed how some important aspects of human societies such as religion, agriculture and hierarchy emerged. However, if we want to provide a full account of human history, we have to explain how consciousness would ever exist, without which human beings could never establish any institutions at all, not to mention all these complex features. Since Rene Descartes, a cohort of philosophers have explored this topic. Yet disappointingly, they have failed to reach a consensus just as in many other philosophical inquiries. In his book, Nagel ambitiously aspires to address not merely the origin of consciousness but also its relation to the ultimate question concerning the human existence. A satisfactory ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Suppose consciousness is a bowl of soup. Although no one yet has a clear idea what this soup is made of, simple or complicated, it must have a recipe. While an layman can not figure that out after three bowls, a gourmet might be able to tell at the first sip. Correspondingly, our not deep enough physics knowledge should be held accountable for our inability to find out the ingredient of consciousness. Nagel disagrees with reductionists: It is prima facie highly implausible that life as we know it is the result of a sequence of physical accidents together with the mechanism of natural selection (Nagel, 6). The final phase of reductionism thinking is that it eventually reached a point where there is nothing more to be said, except this is just how things are . This logic does not explain anything. It is absurd to call an equation, such as X+Y+Z=consciousness, whose one side is all unknowns, an explanation. By contrast, a holistic or emergent answer to the constitutive question comes to seem increasingly more likely than a reductive one as we move up from physical organisms to consciousness. An emergent view insists that mental character of the complex organisms governed by principles specifically linking mental states and processes to the complex physical functioning of those organisms to their central nervous systems in particular, in the case of humans and creatures somewhat like them. For 11 months, Elie moved from one camp to the next, escaping Death with the skin of his teeth each time. After being liberated in April 1945, Elie went on to write books about his experience, and to even win a Nobel Peace Prize in 1986. In Elie s book Night, he writes about his identity being stripped from himself by the SS officers working in the concentration camps. Right from the first few days at camp, Elie witnessed how SS officers decided who got to live and die merely by the smallest discrepancy in their posture, whether it was a quivering finger on the trigger, or the brisk flick of a baton, telling prisoners which side of a forked path to follow; one leading to the crematorium. With his father, Elie met Dr. Mengele at the center of a crossroad; he was holding a conductor s baton and was surrounded by officers. The baton was moving constantly, sometimes to the right, sometimes to the left (Wiesel 31). Throughout their time on the island, the boys are overcome by fear which shows that in a time of weakness people are capable of committing inhumane actions. The fear the boys acquire on the island becomes detrimental to their self worth and their ability to function normally. A thin wail out of the darkness chilled them and set them grabbing for each other. Then the wairl rose, remote and inearthly, and turned to an inarticulate gibbering. Percival Wemys Madison of the Vicarage, Harcourt St. Anthony, lying in the long grass, was living through circumstances in which the incantation of his address was powerless to help him (94). After all the time the boys spend on the island they lose their sense of who they are. As kids, they take pride on where they are from and it helps bring them comfort throughout their troubles. By the Sixteenth century, Luther had successfully challenged the Catholic Church from 1517 and Copernicus had declared a solar centric universe in 1543. With the development of new soldier and armies strategies become more ambitious. Ruler were more confident about campaigning against many different armies at the same time and took part in decisive battles without the fear that mercenary soldier would run away. Gustavus Adolphus was one of the first to put these new strategic concepts to the test according to the historian Roberts8. • 21. The Effect Of Ph On The Rate Of Photosynthesis Maggie Morris Leaf Disks: The Rise from Bottom to Top ABSTRACT This experiment demonstrates the effects of pH on the rate of photosynthesis by examining the behavior of leaf disks in different pH solutions under light. In this experiment, we used five different pH levels: pH 5, pH 6, pH 7, pH 8 and pH 9. These solutions were created using a combination of hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide. Spinancia olcerea or spinach, leaves were used in the experiment to examine the effects of pH on the rate of photosynthesis. The rate of photosynthesis was measured by counting the number of leaf disks that rose to the surface of the solution after each minute. In acidic solutions, the rate of photosynthesis increased while in basic solutions, the rate of photosynthesis decreased. DESIGN (D) DEFINING THE PROBLEM AND SELECTING VARIABLES The intention of this experiment is to determine the effects of pH on the rate of photosynthesis in living leaves. Photosynthesis is a process by which plants convert light energy captured from the sun into chemical energy which they use to perform various plant functions. During the photosynthesis process, light, carbon dioxide, and water react to produce products: sugar and oxygen. The equation for photosynthesis is: Photosynthesis occurs in the palisade mesophyll of plant leaves. During photosynthesis, carbon dioxide is broken up into 6 carbon for the sugar molecule and 12 oxygen. In this lab, I determined the rate of photosynthesis in spinach ... • 23. The Character Of Linda From Blood Simple, By Frances... The character of Linda is very similar to the character of Abby from Blood Simple, who was also portrayed by Frances McDormand. Abby is described as the woman whose weakness and dissatisfaction set the story in motion. She saves herself against all odds, but this is more of a matter of random good fortune than of either sangfroid or intelligence (16 17). A similar case could be made for Linda. Linda s dissatisfaction with her body and need to reinvent herself drives the plot as she desperately tries to acquire money to pay for her plastic surgeries. She fails to recognize that the intel she thinks she has is completely useless, and she still selfishly pushes onwards coming up with plan after plan, without even realizing the deadly full extent of her actions. Alan Woolfolk comments in Deceit, Desire, and Dark Comedy: Postmodern Dead Ends in Blood Simple that in Blood Simple, Abby s misunderstanding...[made] her an unintentional femme fatale (Woolfolk 88). This would also make Linda the unintentional femme fatale in Burn After Reading since she inadvertently leads to the downfall of Ted, Osbourne, Harry, and Chad. Ted and Chad are both killed while on the mission to secure money for Linda s surgeries. How far do you agree with this statement? The political establishment during the Second Reich in Germany were successful in maintaining the political status quo between the years 1871 and 1918. It can be argued however, that they were successful in doing so through more than just a policy of moderate reform. During these years, Germany abided by a rigid constitution which allowed power to ultimately be firmly held in the hands of the Kaiser. A great sense of nationalism and patriotism also existed in Germany and the vast majority of the German population heavily valued the Kaiser. Furthermore, the constitution ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 1902, during Von Bulow s chancellorship, the Tariff Law was introduced which put higher duties on imported grain and thus raised food prices. Despite the Kaiser heavily approving of the Tariff Law, it served to turn worker support away from the Kaiser s system and to the SPD. This can be seen in the sharp rise of votes in the 1903 general election. This may suggest that moderate reform was never the mechanism to keep power in the hands of the old elites or maintain the status quo. However, the threat of Socialism was undoubtedly overestimated by the political establishment who were under the misconception that the Socialist movement was wholly revolutionary. It may therefore be argued that since the threat of the socialists was smaller than perceived, it was in fact the existing structures of the Kaiserreich that maintained the political status quo. It could be argued that under Bulow s chancellorship, the fact that he carried such an interest and passion in foreign policy, allowed stability to remain as policies such as Weltpolitik and Sammlungspolitik helped to reduce conflicting interests on the domestic front. The knowledge gained is beneficial to the individual when put into practice, otherwise, that knowledge is futile. However, one can only apply the information gained through better information processing and synthesis. One of the approaches used in evaluating the effectiveness of the information gained involves undertaking an in depth personal reflection. The purpose of this investigation is to conduct an in depth personal reflection on one area of personal strength emanating from the workshops carried out throughout the year. Definition of Personal Strength To evaluate one s strengths, one needs to undertake a range of tests. Already, there exist a plethora of approaches to evaluate the strengths within oneself. Some of these tests include personal intuitions and preferences. However, undertaking a professional evaluation is important to ensure consistency. One of the most important tools to evaluate one s personal strengths is the Myers Briggs Type Indicators (Bower 2015; Culp Smith 2009; Das Sharma, 2015). In particular, this evaluation protocol allows an individual to see the person within other than the behavior. Primarily, the inner personality influences the outward behavior. Moreover, the environment plays an important role in the behavioral approach. Consequently, performing a focused investigation provides a better evaluation metric. Furthermore, the Myers Briggs Type Indicator allows an individual to conceptualize both internal and external factors and the decisions made under such environments. After a careful evaluation, I have realized that organization or orderliness is my personal strength. In part, planning plays a central role in most of the decisions made (Cui Wu 2016). Essentially, I feel that whenever the time is spent on the planning stage, the implementation and evaluation of a process become easier. However, failure to plan leads to delays in the implementation process. Particularly, a lot of delays in the implementation process are attributable to the order of activities. In other cases, people try to undertake more than one activity simultaneously as a time saving strategy. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 40. Analysis Of The Film Moonlight Theorist Vsevolod Pudovkin claims that narrative films are mainly a product of construction and cautious compilations of selections of images that have been shot (Renée). Thus, editing enhances the narrative and enables the viewers to better understand and connect with the characters. This idea is apparent in the film Moonlight (2016), directed by Barry Jenkins, surrounding a young black man, Chiron s journey to adulthood. With a limited amount of dialogue in the film, the filmmakers attempt to show, instead of tell the audience, the narrative. Therefore, the film is formally creative, utilizing various cinematic techniques such as, twirling camera angels, non sync sound, and bold colors to engulf the audience. One particular example of the filmmakers decision is the pivotal diner scene between Chiron and his childhood friend, Kevin. In the diner scene, the personal relationship between Chiron and Kevin is showcased. Jenkins immediately cuts to Chiron exiting his car with loud rap music blaring, purposefully illustrating the world in which he currently resides. However, upon entering the diner, the atmosphere immediately shifts to a calm and intimate setting with subdued sultry music. The director intentionally included music that would establish the tone of the scene, while accurately depicting the distinct places these characters represent. Furthermore, with the two long takes at the beginning, the viewer is purposefully given time to become familiar with the new ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Analysis Of Rappaccini s Daughter Lauren Thomas Professor Saunders ENGL 231 October 23rd, 2014 The Theme of Love in Rappaccini s Daughter Nathaniel Hawthorne s short story Rappaccini s Daughter holds the theme of love at its forefront. The story delineates the struggles, both internal and external, that Giovanni Guasconti faces when courting a young woman named Beatrice Rappaccini. Beatrice s love of a plant and her father s love of science are conflicts that also highlight the theme of love. Along with these conflicts, Hawthorne uses the theme of love to pose the question of whether or not love is worth fighting for as well as critiquing a tragic flaw in romantic relationships. These elements combine together to make a compelling argument that love is simply not worth the struggle it imposes. The first conflict that arises in the short story is the internal conflict of Giovanni. Giovanni moves from his home in order to study at the University of Padua and sees Beatrice Rappaccini underneath the window of his new home. The conflict Giovanni faces stems from his affection and blooming love for Beatrice. Giovanni sees Beatrice s beauty as brilliant, so vivid in its character, that she glowed amid the sunlight (pg. 7). However, her beauty is rivaled by her horror. Whenever a creature is near her breath, it dies. Giovanni begins questioning whether or not loving Beatrice is a wise decision. Her horror keeps him at bay while her beauty and her personality draw him in closer. The second conflict that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. Memoirs of Princess Dashkova The Memoirs of Princess Dashkova Analysis Eloquent, brilliant, unorthodox, poise, and loyal all of these unique characteristics allowed Dashkova to gain the highest regard among the members of the elite society and more importantly, to earn the respect of Catherine the Great. Dashkova is a peculiar female character. She s fully narcissistic, but at the same time, rejects her recognition and claims herself as unworthy of the credits Catherine II had given her. In her autobiography The Memoirs of Princess Dashkova, Dashkova justifies her role as a noble woman, her early life contribution in helping Catherine rise to the throne, and the frugal life she bore as a widow and a mother of two. Dashkova voiced her significance in a society where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Dashkova s memoir, she gave credits to her large role in the plot of overthrowing Peter III; however, Catherine disagreed. She rebutted that it was her plan of action after the death of the Empress Elizabeth and the vision of the coup was established long ago. My initial observation of Dashkova is her ability to be extraordinary despite her difficult upbringing. Her intelligence was compelling to the Empress Catherine and the men that she had encountered during her traveling. Dashkova portrayed herself as a strong, versatile woman, who s not only different from most of the women during the time period, but can also outperform her male counterparts in various tasks (e.g. surgery, debate, carpenting, etc.) (pg. 144). She surprised the readers at the first moment when she met Prince Dashkov, a Moscow man. She fell in love with him and got married at the age of 16. The proposal was informal and emotional unlike the traditional arrangement with its strict regulations. Just 5 years after, Prince Dashkov passed away, leaving Dashkova 2 children and his mountainous gambling debt. In the most hopeless scenario, Dashkova managed to raise her 2 children and provided her son a wonderful education while still remaining faithful to the Empress Catherine II. She declared, My own poverty affected me not at all (pg. 149). Ironically, as a member of the aristocratic class, she wore nothing but the oldest clothes (pg. 64). According to Dashkova s ... • 44. Maxwell s Equation Essay INTRODUCTION Maxwell s Equations are a set of four mathematical equations that provides the foundation to the largely abstract concepts of electricity and magnetism. They are a mathematical condensation of all the basic rules, by which electricity and magnetism function. Refer to Figure 1 for the equations. Although James Clerk Maxwell himself only contributed to the last equation, his contribution led to one of the most important discoveries in the history of science. However, it wasn t until 25 years later that these equations were interpreted and used rightly by the rest of the world. On the right is an image of Maxwell. Maxwell s work as quoted by Einstein: The formulation of Maxwell s equations is the most important event in physics since Newton s time, not only because of their wealth of content, but also because they form a pattern for a new type of law ... ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The equation is actually incomplete, and valid only for a long straight wire. An example to prove that it s incomplete is given below. Suppose a pot is taken and the exterior surface is considered the enclosed surface mentioned in the law, and the circumference of the bottom is considered to be the closed curve. When the equation uses the term i , it actually means the current enclosed within the path, piercing through the surface. If the pot were shaped in such a way that the wire carrying current ended inside the pot after piercing through and coming out, current enclosed would be 0. This either means that dl and the magnetic field are always perpendicular (cosine 90 = 0), or that the magnetic field itself is 0. Both are impossible and there lies the contradiction. MAXWELL S CORRECTION Maxwell corrected the equation by adding another term to it. Considering the above example, there is a change in electric field as the current pierces through one surface of the pot and goes out through the other. This field can be expresses ... • 46. Antagonistic Coevolution Between Bacterial And Phage... Antagonistic Coevolution Between Bacterial and Phage Populations PCB 4674 Fall 2016 Abstract Often termed an evolutionary arms race, the enduring battle between bacterial and phage defenses against one another has shed insight into the mechanisms behind coevolution, and how these adaptations have led to diversification and speciation within both populations. Research into the relationship has yielded evidence that antagonistic coevolution can be advantageous for both phage and bacteria, often resulting in adaptations that would not have evolved by mutation through natural selection alone. This review provides background information on the relationship between bacteria and their phage, elucidating some of the mechanisms behind antagonistic coevolution and the resulting adaptations therein, and discusses the controversial use of phage therapy as treatment for some strains of antibiotic resistant bacteria. Data extracted from a study utilizing a species of marine bacteria and phage is provided as an example of a few basic adaptations behind coevolution and how they can lead to diversification in both host and parasitoid defenses, and subsequently, their populations. Introduction Bacteriophage, or simply phage, are obligate intracellular viruses that invade bacterial cells and take over the cellular machinery to replicate their viral genome and create new viral progeny via lysis of the bacterial host cell (Buckling and Rainey 2002). Phage have been identified as the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Washington Irving and Romanticism Essays The short stories of Washington Irving are examples of the literary movement of Romanticism and its characteristics which are evidenced in this author s works. These characteristics are sometimes found in abundant quantities or limited amounts in each of his short stories. However, no matter what short story Washington Irving wrote, the Age of Romanticism and its defining characteristics are found in each of his selections. So, too, do each of the author s short stories present a unique study about the author s intentions for creating his work. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Romanticism as a conviction that intuition, imagination, and emotion are inferior to reason is often thought as the best known characteristic. It was used to show the human abilities and the source for the subjects. This helps us to understand the world around us and also how we take part in it. Emotions were thought to be one of the main factors in place of logic and reason. People looked to making music often to express feelings that were being felt. Washington s tone helps to convey the emotion in this story. Washington changes the tone throughout the story to help the reader better understand the emotion of this short story. He is a true enchanter, Irving states, whose spell operates not only upon the sense, but upon the imagination and the heart. When they are stranded he uses tone showing that they were happy and felt a sort of power that they were the kings of this island. Then he changes it to anger and a fight for the ambergris when they discovered it. When the ambergris is taken away from them by the new landowners, he shows the emotion of disappointment. The quote, All kingdoms, however, are doomed to revolution, conclusion, or decay; and so it fared with the empire of the three kings of Bermuda. is a powerful quote showing the emotion in Irving s tone. Romanticism as a conviction that poetry is superior to science is a common characteristic because of the growing popularity of poetry at the time. Many times the meaning ...
