eventually enacted. Because of this kind of work in Hull House, Jane Addams emerged as a great
leader in the social reform movement. She fought to write and edit legislation about housing,
sanitation, factory regulations, immigrant right, and child labor laws. Addams firmly believed
that every person deserved his or her equal share of rights as a citizen of the United States. She
allowed union meetings to be held at Hull House and was a member of the Progressive Party (Izzo,

Ancient civilizations of the eastern world have proved to be prosperous regardless of the time
period. The cultures along the Nile River in Egypt and in the Indus River Valley share many
similarities along with numerous differences. For example, geography contributed to the
development of these settlements in both positive and negative ways. Behavior and religious
beliefs were also affected by the civilizations current government. Advancements in science,
technology, and architecture allowed the people to further develop their cultures. The geography of
both civilizations protected the region from potential invaders. Because the Nile River flowed from
south to north and most nations were not willing to risk crossing the vast, unforgiving desert, the

of the civilization. The pharaoh was believed to be a god, therefore when he died he was buried

Because of this, more is known about Egyptian government due to the fact more information has
