Culture In The Nacirema
I believe culture is the attitudes and feelings a group of people share. Culture can include practices
like rituals and customs like religion. It is how you eat, drink, and speak. Culture can be either tacit or
explicit. Tacit is very much like an unspoken behavior, it is something people lack words for. Explicit
culture can be spoken or written. No matter what category culture falls into it truly makes us different
from one another. It is everywhere shaping people all around the world every day. The Nacirema May
sound like strange a tribe, but if you read very closely you will notice they are not. Nacirema is
American spelled backwards and latipso is ospital backwards which almost spells hospital. In this
passage the American people are really the ones who are being talked about. All the rituals that are
spoken of describe our everyday life. Bathrooms are described as shrines and medicine cabinets as
charm boxes. Doctors are referred to as medicine men and dentists to holy mouth men as they rid the
mouth of evils. The story of the Nacirema really does make a good point about out how we have a
ridiculous amount of medications, and we take unnecessary trips to the hospital too often. Miner, the
author is trying to illustrate the obsessions of the American people like our obsession with self image
and health and how strange and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During culture shock it is unclear what is proper and how to act (Spradley). I see female circumcision
as the main things that contributed to Katherine Dettwylewr s culture shock. It seems to be the most
alarming thing to her. I also find this practice extremely alarming and have never heard of it before.
Female genital mutilation seems so wrong to me, first of all because it is dangerous and cause females
to be even more susceptible to infection and also because no one should have to go through intense
pain like that

It s The Furthest Thing From Extreme
That all sounds a little extreme. It s the furthest thing from extreme. You may have carved out a sweet
little community for yourself, but you are an island in a sea of misery the tide is rising quickly. It s
only a matter of time before you and your estate are consumed by famine, pestilence, and death. We
have a small window; I m thinking maybe three to five years to try and put the genie back in the
bottle. How? We have men and women in place in state capitols across the region who are working to
reconstitute local and state governments. Many of these people are the same men and women who you
worked with during the movement. If we can get some structures re established, the goal is to hold a
second round of constitutional conventions and repeal all the Liberty Amendments and the Supremacy
Amendment at the state level. Once the Liberty Amendments and Supremacy Amendment are gone,
we can begin making and enforcing laws once again. As soon as we can enforce law, we can begin to
rebuild society based on those laws. So, let me see if I ve got this straight, William said. You took your
grandson and fled Rosewood, leaving Edward Birch in the dust, and now you re bent on starting a
counter movement, and you want me to help you foment this revolution. That s exactly right. You re
doing this because you believe that Edward Birch is some demon, perhaps even the anti Christ
himself, whose goal all along has been to unleash an apocalypse on America. You believe

Joan Of Arc Thesis
Joan Of Arc
1430
Joan of Arc has been taken by the Burgundians and taken to the castle of Bouvreuil. It is confirmed
that she is being pronounced a death sentence. On the morning of May 30th, she is to be burned at the
stake at the old marketplace of Rouen. They have charged her with many things, including witchcraft
and dressing like a man. So far, no one has attempted to save her from them, not even King Charles.
He is predicting that they want to take the King and Joan out of power. Therefore, he is fearful to
make an attempt to help Joan.
This all started in 1412 when Joan of Arc was born. She claimed to hear the voice of God at the age of
13. She had one mission from this voice, to save France by getting rid of the enemies and making

1992 LA Riots On April 28, 1992, several riots erupted throughout Los Angeles, California due to the
unjust trial when several officers were caught on video brutally beating Mr. Rodney King on the

voices of thousands were heard throughout the country and throughout the world. They were able to
get justice for Rodney King by following a famous quote of a civil rights activist Malcolm X This is
our aim. It s rough; we have to smooth it up some. But we re not trying to put something together that

in this society, on this earth, in this day, which we intend to bring into existence by any means

We Real Cool: Poetry Explication
We Real Cool is a poem written by Gwendolyn Brooks in 1959, and published in her book The Bean
Eaters (We Real Cool, pg 1). A simple and light poem, We Real Cool is vague enough to allow readers
to visualize their own characters and setting, but specific enough to keep a consistent rebellious image.
Brook s attitude toward the characters is undecided, as the tone is neither tragic nor victorious, but
more so just balanced and neutral.
We Real Cool is written from the perspective of the involved fictional characters. It is as if the reader
is in the presence of these characters as they introduce themselves. They speak with confidence and ...

The second half of this stanza is, We left school. This is an obvious statement of action, but leaves the
reader questioning whether they left a not yet dismissed school day or a school day that had come to
an end. As a third option, the reader might also assume they left school for good.
The couplets continue in the next stanza with, We lurk late. With this line we can assume the verb lurk
is meant to represent a much less gracious movement, an almost monstrous, but comical way of
walking. In the poem s consistent three word lines, the word late is included to end the sentence. This
gives the reader an idea of when the poem can possibly take place within the time of day. Although it
may not be a literal statement regarding the time of day, as it can also translate to a rebellious activity
the characters wish to point out. The second sentence within this stanza is, We strike straight. This line
can also have multiple meanings depending on the usage and perspective of the words strike and
straight. Two possible literal translations can be deal with fighting, as strike means hit or punch, while
another meaning of strike is how one lights a cigarette.
The fourth stanza begins with, We sing sin, a line that can also have multiple meanings. If taken from
a paradox angle, the gentleness and innocence of singing contradicts with the literal meaning of sin.
This method of verbal irony is what keeps the tone consistently light throughout

The Stages Of Psychological Development
Erik Erikson is a well known psychologist one of his most well known theories is the stages of
psychological development. With Erikson s theory he takes on the idea that social events or situations
will affect a person s personality throughout one s life rather than just when they are developing in
their childhood. His big idea was about identity and how a person develops their identity, with this is
where he came up with the identity crisis and the eight stages of development. The eight stages are
trust verse mistrust, autonomy verses shame and doubt, initiative verse guilt, industry verses
inferiority, identity verses role confusion, intimacy verses isolation, generatively verses stagnation,
and ego integrity verses despair shape us as individuals and are a guideline to follow. The next main
theories of Erik Erikson is the stages of psychological development, there are eight stages that Erikson
divides development into. The first stage is trust verses mistrust which occurs during the ages of new
born to about one, one in a half. This is the stage in which the child looks to the primary care giver for
their needs (McLeod, 2008). In order for this stage to be successful with trust it leave a great deal of it
up to hope and that the trust and care is born along with the child (Ginsburg, 1992). They are just
entering this world so they are uncertain about most things so they rely on them to help them get
through the first year or so with consistent and stable care (McLeod,

Nat Turner s Slave Rebellion Essay

Nat Turner s Southampton Slave Revolt and How it Paved the Way for the Abolitionist and
Civil Rights Movement
Nat Turner was a man with a vision that would change America forever. His vision may
have not sounded right to the average person but to Nat Turner, he was on Earth to realize his vision.
Nat Turner is the most famous and most controversial slave rebel in American history, and he
remains a storm center of dispute( Fires of Jubilee author Stephen B. Oates).
Nat Turner s slave revolt may have not been the greatest way to solve the problem of slavery,
but it did open many people s eyes. Slavery was an accepted practice in society but it was not a

Reading the bible is where Nat received many of his callings to start his massive slave
revolt.
As Nat grew a little older, his life began to change in a succession of unsuspected shocks.
First, his father ran away to the North, leaving Nat and Nancy still in slavery. After escaping he was
never heard from again, but Nat never forgot him( Fires of Jubilee ). Around 1810 Nat s master
Benjamin, died of a typhoid epidemic that was sweeping through the small Virginia neighborhood.
In Master Benjamin s will, he divided his land and his slaves among his children. Nat and his
mother now became property of Samuel Turner. Master Samuel was a cruel slave owner compared
to his. Like his father he was religious but he scared Christian religion into his slaves. He told them
that God had brought them to the new world to serve the white man, and that they were to be
obedient to the whites. He said if the slaves tried ever to revolt or try to escape they would burn in
hell with Satan forever. Nat lived under these ridiculous beliefs while on the plantation yet his
belief in the lord and the bible never favored. Another new experience was presented to Nat when
he turned twelve, he started to work difficult and laborious chores like the older male slaves. He
could no longer play games with white children, no more fishing and cavorting. The same white
children he and the

the most powerful earthquake to hit Mexico in a century. Then again on September the 19th Mexico
suffered another earthquake which took place approximately 100 miles from Mexico City. Officials
were finally able to report that there were no longer any missing children at a Mexico City school that

Scientist say strong earthquakes can sometimes alter stresses nearby, leading to subsequent quakes.
(p.4, Stevens 2017) Natural disasters are based on many things, but I think the single most important
is physical geography, or location. If you lived in the drier parts of california, then you would be more
prone to wildfires. If you lived in alaska, then you would be more prone to avalanches. Unfortunately
for those who lived in Mexico, where the North American and pacific plate meet and create transform

call a subduction zone plate boundary. Subduction zones are the part of the earth where one slab of the
crust is slowly sliding under another (pt.6, Stevens 2017) in simpler terms when two plate boundaries

their partner Sexual faithfulness while, and women were more concern with the emotional intimacy
aspect of it. Men are universally worried about paternity certainty (hence, his mate s sexual fidelity is
his main concern) while women will feel more threatened by any emotional intimacy. (Sex At Dawn

No, I don t think they experience Jealousy different. I think men and women both can experience
jealousy the same way. Jealousy should not differ because of your gender. The reason I say that is that
BOTH can feel emotionally hurt if their partner falls in love with someone else. They both can have
the same negative thought pattern to get back at the spouse. What makes it appear as though they are
experiencing jealous different is caused by environment factors. They are both expect generation after
generation to be a certain way. Males were always the head of the house, while the women cook,
clean, and look after the children. Those roles already created a set personality for how men and
women should act in a relationship. Times have changed but the controlling aspect along with
insecure, negative emotions haven t. Thus, when put into a situation where their emotions get the best
of them they can only be how they seen others were. This chapter mentions how males were more
jealous of their partner having sex with another man while the female was jealous of the men falling in

A family law attorney basically deals with all the familial legal matters. Within a family and between
family members there might arise a thousand types of situations that require the intermediation of an
attorney who understands all the aspects of the family law. While there are situations like divorce and
premarital agreement, there are also cases regarding child custody, adoption, and alimony. Given
below are some of the things that family law attorney handles:
1. Marriage is one of the commonest aspects of family law. You may seek legal help and counsel
before your marriage. Such meetings can be arranged to discuss your and your spouse s assets. You
can also discuss the consequences of a divorce in respect to the properties. If you want to negotiate
some terms of marriage, such a lawyer will also create a prenuptial agreement. There are also post

Child custody is another crucial area of practice by the lawyers who deal with family law. Such a case

paid to the parent sharing the custody of the child. It is a major responsibility of the attorney to give
the child/children in safe and caring hands.
4. Did you know that family law attorneys also represent children before the court of law? There are
cases of being abused or neglected by the parents or guardian that requires the help of an experienced
attorney. There are specialized lawyers for child advocacy.

proper legal decision about the distribution of estates is done by a family law attorney. An attorney

The Portuguese empire possessed strong naval power by the 15th century, which enabled the empire
to start looking abroad to expand their influences. By 1415, the Portuguese had begun their oceanic
voyages in Africa. Their overall purpose was to obtain access to the African gold mines to expand
their markets. As the trade progressed with the Africans, the Portuguese began trading copper, brass,
and other local goods for gold. As a result, the Portuguese began establishing trade post all over
Africa. Additionally, the Portuguese established trade post in the region of Liberia as they looked for
gold to fuel their voyages to the new world. Since the exploration and gold rush by the Portuguese was

Africa. Liberia and Sierre Leon became famous for their extensive amount of Malagueta pepper,

these questions gives an opportunity for the employee to feel engaged and see themselves as a critical
part of the overall success of WorldVentures. Once the employees answer the prompted questions they
are asked to grade their performance 1 5, five being the highest. At this point the PMP is turned into
the direct manager, their task is to then fill out the last comment box with their own observations and
set a meeting time for each of their employees. The meeting is one on one in a fairly comfortable
setting. The employee is then given a chance to hear their manager s observations and goal ideas with
time to discuss and ask questions along the way. At the end of the meeting each person signs the PMP
agreeing that they will work towards the agreed upon goals and understand the grade their manager
has given, wither it is the same or different from the grade they gave themselves. HR is then given the

The True Beauty Of Society In The 21st Century
Every minute there are about 105 deaths and every minute there s 250 babies born. This is the reality
of the beautiful and brutal earth within the 21st century. No matter what changes we make upon our
actions, history would repeat itself. This unfortunate motif is seen through texts such as The Book
Thief and V for Vendetta which displays key contextual ideas and values that is relevant and relates to
the 21st century today. These contextual values consist of totalitarianism, rebellion for freedom and
oppression.
Brutality to some people is rare to their eyes, but when experienced they are scarred for life. Within
The Book Thief , it is evident that totalitarianism has been a continuous event occurring for the past
century and in the present moment as we speak. Its purpose is to convey a message that words play a
significant and powerful role in manipulating individuals into believing that brutality is the true beauty
of nature. This is represented within the novel The Book Thief , set in 1939 the beginning of World
War II, were the Nazi Party was in control in the movement and the changes made within Germany.
The Book Thief has effectively represented the value of beauty through Hitler s birthday, in which
every individual had to gather and appreciate and hail him as their leader. Every time something was
said, all had to say Heil Hitler . The forced tone of the majority suggests that the government was

Or again when Napoleon s troops scored a victory against Egypt s military rulers, the Mamluks, at the
Battle of the Pyramids in July 1798. This was a major blow to British supply routes and a great victory
for France, and especially Napoleon. He was able to acquire direct control over an important and
profitable trade route. This is very important as not only did these conquests display Napoleon s
capabilities and prepare him and his army for the coup as well as the Napoleonic wars that would soon
follow, but it also earned him more and more political and military power with each battle he won. It
also granted him resources and territory from which to stage his coup and seizure of power. He used
his conquered territories in Italy to fund his military campaigns and his acquired trade routes to
facilitate the influx of power and wealth into his newly conquered territories.
Taking territory also allowed him to establish his own regional governments. In 1797, he defeated the
Italians and the Austrians and created his puppet government of the Cispadane Republic. He did
similarly with his conquest of the so called low countries, which ended with his victory and the treaty
of Campo Formio. This is a very pivotal point in Napoleon s rise to power as it is the first instance of a

responsible and balanced sexuality education that seeks to assist young people in understanding a
positive view of sexuality, provide them with information and skills about caring for their sexual
health, and help them acquire skills to make decisions now and in the future. It is medically accurate
and provides information about abstinence and contraceptives as tools to prevent unintended
pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases. On the other hand, abstinence only sex education is a
form of sex education that teaches abstinence from sex. This type of sex education promotes sexual
abstinence until marriage and avoids discussion of use of contraceptives. Comprehensive sex
education goes against some family morals and encourages teenagers to have sex. But abstinence only
sex education does not teach students enough about sex or how to protect themselves from STDs and
pregnancy. Comprehensive sex education should be mandatory in all of our nation s schools.
In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, sex education was strongly effected by Victorian values. Sex
education at that time taught that sexually transmitted diseases were the result of punishment for
immoral behaviors. The discussion over what to teach children about sex in school occurred as early
as 1912. In the 1950 s the

Hurricane Mitch Research Paper
In late October of 1998, Hurricane Mitch landed in Central America, claiming the lives of more than
11,000 people, and causing more than $5 billion in damages of homes, and businesses. Hurricane
Mitch was considered the most ferocious hurricane to hit the Western Hemisphere in over 200 years.
Hurricane Mitch began as a tropical depression on October 22, 1998. Four short days later, on October
26, it had intensified into a Category 5 hurricane. Winds had reached 180 mph, and gusts were
reaching up to 200 mph. First, this hurricane landed on the island of Honduras on the date of October
29. It moved through Central America, and finally reached Florida as a tropical storm on November 4
5. The islands of Honduras and Nicaragua were hit extremely hard by Mitch. In Honduras, entire
villages were washed away by the heavy rainfall causing mudslides and floods. The intensity of the
rain was nearly 75 inches. Nearly all crops were destroyed. The Hurricane also left many affects on
Nicaragua. In one specific area called Posoltega, more than 2,000 people were caught in a huge
mudslide. Many other nations were affected by this hurricane but the death tolls in these places were
much lower and insignificant than Honduras and Nicaragua. In total, 11,000 people died, which places
this storm as the most deadly storm since the Great Hurricane of 1780. Besides the deaths, many
people were made homeless and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After four days of its birth, it had become a tropical depression. By 2100 UTC on October 26, the
monster storm had grown to a pressure of 905 millibars with sustained winds of 155 knots and gusts
over 200 mph. Mitch was already placing high on the charts for the strongest hurricane until six hours
later, when it was remaining at a Category 5, even though the pressure was continuing to rise. The
hurricane stayed at this level for 33 hours. Mitch maintained sustained winds of 155 knots for 15

Power To Hurt Analysis
If one is the parent of a middle or high school student, there is a probability that one s child is either
engaged in, or spectator to, online behavior that you would find alarming and un easing. For many
teens though this behavior has become just another challenge of youth, and another facet of their lives
that parents either don t know about or feel as though they cannot understand to the child s full
potential. The existence of a generation gap between what adults and teens believe is acceptable
language, behavior, or communication on social media today is one of the findings in an extremely
detailed article in the Palo Alto Weekly Power to hurt: How social media impacts our kids. The
bundles of stories reveal the unprecedented struggles facing today s teens as they find their way in the
unsupervised, deranged and raw world of social media. Teens related stories about the silent suffering
that they endured when peers, which they consider friends, anonymously post obscene, sexually
explicit and frequently downright false comments that are designed to hurt ones feelings, gain social
advantage at their own expense or to boost the bully s ego. For some, especially those at the top of the
social pyramid or consider the popular kids; it is just another tricky social ... Show more content on

It s a lot easier to say or do something truly hurtful to someone else, without considering the
consequences, when it requires only a few keystrokes on a computer or cell phone. An assistant

another. One teenage girl told the Weekly she intentionally avoided developing close relationships out
of fear that a friend might turn on her and reveal personal information on social

Casa Valentina By Harvey Fierstein
Casa Valentina by Harvey Fierstein. The play certainly was not what I expected once I saw it live.
Before going to see it and writing this paper, I decided to do some research on both of the plays to see
if I could get a better understanding of them. As a result, I decided on Casa Valentina because it was
about a topic that I was unfamiliar with. The play is set in the early 1960s when men would go to the
Catskill Mountains and escape. But escape what? In this play, they would escape being men. Seeing
the photographic oddness of men being dressed in little neat dresses has always been a source of
comedy and a favorite in theatre. This play is no different. The play was also a huge success, being
nominated for multiple awards, including four Tony s and winning other awards. With this in mind, I
thought I was ready to view the play. What the playwright was trying to say about life is that everyone
is different. It raised universal questions of who am I? What is my identity? To what are the
differences in gender identity and sexual orientation? It truly posed some fascinating questions about
these identities. It even provoked the question of what ensues in matrimony when one of the partners
begins to represent both genders. What happens? Is one simply cut off? Is there room for them both? It
brings out the central conflict of illusion versus reality in my eyes. This is because these are grown
adult men, married with a spouse of the opposite sex. Yet in spite of all this,

Critical Information About A Patient s Plan Of Care
Specific problem requiring change and Situation description: The shift report between the off going
and oncoming nurses must include all of the critical information about a patient s plan of care. This
information must be communicated. The change of shift report that is done incorrectly can be a result
of missed information and poor communication between nurses, affecting their ability to deliver safe
and efficient care for the patients. This problem occurs not just at one but at most hospitals, where
inter shift report still continues to take place at the nursing station without inclusion or a visual of the
patient until the report is done. As I witnessed shift report in the hallways or at the nursing stations of
SCVMC of the 33 bed mother and baby unit, I noticed that at times unnecessary information is
received and critical information may not be communicated. On the other hand, at Redwood City
Kaiser neuroscience unit bedside inter shift nursing report works well and I have witnessed better
nurse patient relationship, lower incidents of falls, strong teamwork, as well as improved nurse
accountability and prioritization at the beginning of the shift. As evidence shows in the article
Improving Client and Nurse Satisfaction Through the Utilization of Bedside Report , there is a direct
correlation between the bedside report and both client and nurse satisfaction in care settings,
validating the importance of changing to bedside report (Vines, Dupler, Guido, 2014). I

Examples Of Just War Utilitarianism
Just war theory includes the justification of the how and why that wars are fought. The justification of
war can be either viewed from a theoretical or historical perspective. The theoretical aspect regards
justifying war in an ethical manner and the specific forms that combat may or may not involve. The
historical aspect, or the just war tradition, deals with the rules or agreements that have been applied to
wars throughout time. Ethics examine institutional agreements for their philosophical coherence as
well as to inquire about whether aspects of the conventions should be altered. The just war tradition
may also consider the thoughts of various philosophers and lawyers throughout time and to examine
both their philosophical visions of war s ethical limits (or absence ... Show more content on

This can be applied to the just war theory. For the utilitarian approach, the end justifies the means.
Therefore, a nation would not need a just war cause other than having the right intentions and making
sure that the war would produce the greatest good for the greatest number of individuals. The notion
of jus in bello is to make sure that less evil will come about if the war is fought. For example, when
looking at New York City s 9/11 bombings, a utilitarian would say that this was wrong : it was a
selfish approach that did not end in the greatest good for the greatest number; a utilitarian would not
go against a threat made by a country or world leader if the outcome would be the best for the entire
world and would make it a better place than it was before. The other approach: people are going to
war without a just cause other than for just good intentions. This would make the world a volatile,
shaky unstable place. Overall, the utilitarian and the jus in bello advocate would agree with the just
war theory that war might be necessary to make the world a better place as long as the war is justified
through just

Mammogram Vs Women
Why is it that the regulations on receiving a mammogram are always changing? I believe it has to do
with the different generations of women. Society s views are always adapting with new facts and
inventions. Upcoming generations are becoming more informed with the evolution of technology. This
knowledge plays a significant role in how we manage our lives. One important aspect of our life is our
health. Today, people are proactive about staying healthy and learning about their body. Since
technology is now a major factor in our lifestyle; people who grew up in this era are more familiar
with it. This group of people are called Generation X and Generation Y. The time span for this
generation are people born between 1965 and 1986. Generation X and Generation Y have a different
mind set than the generation before them (Andolina Lillé, 2011). The Baby Boomers are a generation
that grew up in a time before technology started to expand. They ... Show more content on

Generation X and Generation Y are more likely to research their physician, disorder, and medication.
In earlier time, it used to be that what the doctor said was correct, and you had to do what they said.
With having the internet and being able to communicate all over the world, people now question if
their doctor has the best plan. Generation X and Generation Y are most known for this type of action.
They are comfortable working with technology and finding a possible better solution to their health. A
portion of Baby Boomers are still prone to take their doctor s advice to heart. They still hold onto the
idea that what the doctor says is best. However, the majority of Baby Boomers have some similarities
of Generation X and Generation Y because unlike their parents, they are proactive. If something is
wrong, you fix it before it becomes a serious problem. This new change in mind set lead to
mammography becoming as important as it is

Lord Byron s View Of Prometheus
For hundreds upon hundreds of years, writers have utilized poetry to express a certain feeling. To do
this, poets rely primarily on pathos to make the reader feel something and allow them to identify with
the poet himself. Master of establishing mood, which Merriam Webster defines as, a distinctive
atmosphere or context, Lord Byron never fails to communicate his exact thoughts. With the precision
and accuracy of a surgeon, he manipulates words and sentences to say exactly what he means nothing
more, nothing less. Lord Byron uses words to convey his reverence of and thanksgiving towards
Prometheus, ad his hatred of Zeus.
According to some versions of the Greek myth, Zeus tasked the Titans Prometheus and Epimetheus
with the job of distributing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although the writer understands Prometheus sacrifice and offers him praise for it, he detests the
outcome of the situation. Lord Byron seems to foster resentment towards Zeus for punishing
Prometheus when the Titan only acted out of pity. Using phrases like, the deaf tyranny of Fate, and,
the wretched gift Eternity, Byron appears all too familiar with twisted forms of judgement. Displayed
so ruthlessly in this story, Zeus heartlessly exiled Prometheus to a fate so terrible, no mortal could
truly imagine it. Zeus heartless decisions establish a tone of bitterness and resentment which subtly

Subsistence Patterns Of Anthropology
Horticulture is defined as the production of plants using a simple nonmechanized technology (Nanda
and Warms 2006:148), while Webster s Dictionary defines horticulture as the art or science of growing
fruits, vegetables, plants, flowers, or trees. When most people think of horticulture, they simply think
of gardening or farming. Most people do not associate horticulture with culture itself or how
horticulture relates to anthropology, or the study human culture. In all actuality, horticulture is a major
part of cultural anthropology. The groups that hunt and grow food, and the associated eating rituals or
ceremonies associated with food differs by culture or environment. This paper will discuss the
subsistence pattern of horticulture as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Carvalho et al. 1989:239) The Yanomamo Indians of the Amazon rain forest are organized by
patrilineal kinship relationships, patrilineal descent from ancestors, and marriage exchanges between
kinship/descent groups. In the Yanomamo tribes, the men are the leaders. The male leaders positions
are mostly because of marriage patterns and kinship. Yanomamo people often participate in arranged
marriages and the tribesmen often take multiple wives. In addition to polygamy, cross cousin
marriages are also a part of the Yanomamo culture. Woman are more or less possessions in the
Yanomami culture and the males position of power or importance is often rated or scaled based on the
number of wives he has. The woman spend most of their time fetching water, caring for their children,
and visiting with one another. The woman of the tribe often spend a good deal of time weaving
baskets and other small crafts and also engage to some degree in fishing. The other main
responsibilities include cooking, gathering firewood and berries and fruits. The men of the tribe are
responsible for the distribution of food for the Yanomamo people. Males do the majority of the fishing
and hunting and while they do not eat the animals they hunt, rather they share their meat with others
within the tribe. The favor is returned by other male hunters within the tribe. Male Yanomamis also

Wildlife Is Being Threatened But We Can Protect It
Have you ever wanted to have a bonfire? Do you love the home you live in? Do you ever waste the
water you drink? The next time you focus on these conveniences or advantages of your life, consider
what you re doing to the wildlife environment. Wildlife habitats are being destroyed in many ways by
many factors. For the purpose of this paper I m going to focus on the following five areas.
Increased Development
Fire
Pollution of water
Redistribution of water
Natural Disasters
All three factors above represent destructive factors contributing to habitat destruction. A habitat is
defined as an undisturbed natural region in which wildlife lives. For example, fish live in ponds, bears
and wolves, as well as deer and squirrels live in the forest. Lizards and snakes reside in the desert. To
begin with, increased development is a major effect of threatening wildlife. Agriculture is causing
wildlife to be destroyed because forests are being turned into croplands. They re increasing pressure to
redevelop land conservation and crops. Agriculture is killing wildlife because the habitats are being
taken over by croplands. Deserts and forests are continually being wiped out by developers and
investors who are more interested in making money than preserving wildlife. Habitat destruction is
increased by the rapidly growing human population. As populations increase, we, as humans tend to
demand the use of more agricultural land consumption to build our cities and towns and

  • 2. Culture In The Nacirema I believe culture is the attitudes and feelings a group of people share. Culture can include practices like rituals and customs like religion. It is how you eat, drink, and speak. Culture can be either tacit or explicit. Tacit is very much like an unspoken behavior, it is something people lack words for. Explicit culture can be spoken or written. No matter what category culture falls into it truly makes us different from one another. It is everywhere shaping people all around the world every day. The Nacirema May sound like strange a tribe, but if you read very closely you will notice they are not. Nacirema is American spelled backwards and latipso is ospital backwards which almost spells hospital. In this passage the American people are really the ones who are being talked about. All the rituals that are spoken of describe our everyday life. Bathrooms are described as shrines and medicine cabinets as charm boxes. Doctors are referred to as medicine men and dentists to holy mouth men as they rid the mouth of evils. The story of the Nacirema really does make a good point about out how we have a ridiculous amount of medications, and we take unnecessary trips to the hospital too often. Miner, the author is trying to illustrate the obsessions of the American people like our obsession with self image and health and how strange and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During culture shock it is unclear what is proper and how to act (Spradley). I see female circumcision as the main things that contributed to Katherine Dettwylewr s culture shock. It seems to be the most alarming thing to her. I also find this practice extremely alarming and have never heard of it before. Female genital mutilation seems so wrong to me, first of all because it is dangerous and cause females to be even more susceptible to infection and also because no one should have to go through intense pain like that ... • 3. It s The Furthest Thing From Extreme That all sounds a little extreme. It s the furthest thing from extreme. You may have carved out a sweet little community for yourself, but you are an island in a sea of misery the tide is rising quickly. It s only a matter of time before you and your estate are consumed by famine, pestilence, and death. We have a small window; I m thinking maybe three to five years to try and put the genie back in the bottle. How? We have men and women in place in state capitols across the region who are working to reconstitute local and state governments. Many of these people are the same men and women who you worked with during the movement. If we can get some structures re established, the goal is to hold a second round of constitutional conventions and repeal all the Liberty Amendments and the Supremacy Amendment at the state level. Once the Liberty Amendments and Supremacy Amendment are gone, we can begin making and enforcing laws once again. As soon as we can enforce law, we can begin to rebuild society based on those laws. So, let me see if I ve got this straight, William said. You took your grandson and fled Rosewood, leaving Edward Birch in the dust, and now you re bent on starting a counter movement, and you want me to help you foment this revolution. That s exactly right. You re doing this because you believe that Edward Birch is some demon, perhaps even the anti Christ himself, whose goal all along has been to unleash an apocalypse on America. On the morning of May 30th, she is to be burned at the stake at the old marketplace of Rouen. They have charged her with many things, including witchcraft and dressing like a man. So far, no one has attempted to save her from them, not even King Charles. He is predicting that they want to take the King and Joan out of power. Therefore, he is fearful to make an attempt to help Joan. This all started in 1412 when Joan of Arc was born. She claimed to hear the voice of God at the age of 13. • 8. Essay on We Real Cool, Poetry Explanation STUDENT NAME PROFESSOR CLASS DATE We Real Cool: Poetry Explication We Real Cool is a poem written by Gwendolyn Brooks in 1959, and published in her book The Bean Eaters (We Real Cool, pg 1). A simple and light poem, We Real Cool is vague enough to allow readers to visualize their own characters and setting, but specific enough to keep a consistent rebellious image. Brook s attitude toward the characters is undecided, as the tone is neither tragic nor victorious, but more so just balanced and neutral. We Real Cool is written from the perspective of the involved fictional characters. It is as if the reader is in the presence of these characters as they introduce themselves. They speak with confidence and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The second half of this stanza is, We left school. This is an obvious statement of action, but leaves the reader questioning whether they left a not yet dismissed school day or a school day that had come to an end. As a third option, the reader might also assume they left school for good. The couplets continue in the next stanza with, We lurk late. With this line we can assume the verb lurk is meant to represent a much less gracious movement, an almost monstrous, but comical way of walking. In the poem s consistent three word lines, the word late is included to end the sentence. This gives the reader an idea of when the poem can possibly take place within the time of day. Although it may not be a literal statement regarding the time of day, as it can also translate to a rebellious activity the characters wish to point out. The second sentence within this stanza is, We strike straight. This line can also have multiple meanings depending on the usage and perspective of the words strike and straight. Two possible literal translations can be deal with fighting, as strike means hit or punch, while another meaning of strike is how one lights a cigarette. The fourth stanza begins with, We sing sin, a line that can also have multiple meanings. If taken from a paradox angle, the gentleness and innocence of singing contradicts with the literal meaning of sin. This method of verbal irony is what keeps the tone consistently light throughout ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With Erikson s theory he takes on the idea that social events or situations will affect a person s personality throughout one s life rather than just when they are developing in their childhood. His big idea was about identity and how a person develops their identity, with this is where he came up with the identity crisis and the eight stages of development. The eight stages are trust verse mistrust, autonomy verses shame and doubt, initiative verse guilt, industry verses inferiority, identity verses role confusion, intimacy verses isolation, generatively verses stagnation, and ego integrity verses despair shape us as individuals and are a guideline to follow. This is the stage in which the child looks to the primary care giver for their needs (McLeod, 2008). Jealousy should not differ because of your gender. The reason I say that is that BOTH can feel emotionally hurt if their partner falls in love with someone else. They both can have the same negative thought pattern to get back at the spouse. What makes it appear as though they are experiencing jealous different is caused by environment factors. They are both expect generation after generation to be a certain way. Males were always the head of the house, while the women cook, clean, and look after the children. Those roles already created a set personality for how men and women should act in a relationship. Times have changed but the controlling aspect along with insecure, negative emotions haven t. The establishment of Liberia was similar to the establishment Sierre Leone executed by the British Crown in 1787 because they both forcibly established colonies in an area where thousands already inhabited. By 1415, the Portuguese had begun their oceanic voyages in Africa. Their overall purpose was to obtain access to the African gold mines to expand their markets. As the trade progressed with the Africans, the Portuguese began trading copper, brass, and other local goods for gold. As a result, the Portuguese began establishing trade post all over Africa. Additionally, the Portuguese established trade post in the region of Liberia as they looked for gold to fuel their voyages to the new world. Since the exploration and gold rush by the Portuguese was successful, by the 16th century the English, the Dutch, Spanish, and French joined the trade with Africa. Liberia and Sierre Leon became famous for their extensive amount of Malagueta pepper, resulting in their location to be referred as the Pepper Coast. Each job, job description and expectation is created with their specific core values in mind. The defining step of performance management is done before an applicant is interviewed. Managers and HRM both find exactly what is needed for that role, leaving little guesswork in the application and interview process. It has been stated, You have no right to appraise the performance of and individual or group unless you have set the parameters and standards of performance and explained them to the individuals prior to the performance period. Once the employees answer the prompted questions they are asked to grade their performance 1 5, five being the highest. At this point the PMP is turned into the direct manager, their task is to then fill out the last comment box with their own observations and set a meeting time for each of their employees. The meeting is one on one in a fairly comfortable setting. The employee is then given a chance to hear their manager s observations and goal ideas with time to discuss and ask questions along the way. At the end of the meeting each person signs the PMP agreeing that they will work towards the agreed upon goals and understand the grade their manager has given, wither it is the same or different from the grade they gave themselves. HR is then given the PMPs for everyone s files and assists the managers with any escalations or over the top issues as they come up. This is the reality of the beautiful and brutal earth within the 21st century. No matter what changes we make upon our actions, history would repeat itself. This unfortunate motif is seen through texts such as The Book Thief and V for Vendetta which displays key contextual ideas and values that is relevant and relates to the 21st century today. These contextual values consist of totalitarianism, rebellion for freedom and oppression. Brutality to some people is rare to their eyes, but when experienced they are scarred for life. Within The Book Thief , it is evident that totalitarianism has been a continuous event occurring for the past century and in the present moment as we speak. Its purpose is to convey a message that words play a significant and powerful role in manipulating individuals into believing that brutality is the true beauty of nature. This is represented within the novel The Book Thief , set in 1939 the beginning of World War II, were the Nazi Party was in control in the movement and the changes made within Germany. The Book Thief has effectively represented the value of beauty through Hitler s birthday, in which every individual had to gather and appreciate and hail him as their leader. This was a major blow to British supply routes and a great victory for France, and especially Napoleon. He was able to acquire direct control over an important and profitable trade route. This is very important as not only did these conquests display Napoleon s capabilities and prepare him and his army for the coup as well as the Napoleonic wars that would soon follow, but it also earned him more and more political and military power with each battle he won. It also granted him resources and territory from which to stage his coup and seizure of power. He used his conquered territories in Italy to fund his military campaigns and his acquired trade routes to facilitate the influx of power and wealth into his newly conquered territories. Taking territory also allowed him to establish his own regional governments. In 1797, he defeated the Italians and the Austrians and created his puppet government of the Cispadane Republic. He did similarly with his conquest of the so called low countries, which ended with his victory and the treaty of Campo Formio. • 22. The Best Kind of Sex Education There is much controversy over which form of sex education should be taught, comprehensive sex education, or abstinence only sex education. The definition for comprehensive sex education is responsible and balanced sexuality education that seeks to assist young people in understanding a positive view of sexuality, provide them with information and skills about caring for their sexual health, and help them acquire skills to make decisions now and in the future. It is medically accurate and provides information about abstinence and contraceptives as tools to prevent unintended pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases. On the other hand, abstinence only sex education is a form of sex education that teaches abstinence from sex. This type of sex education promotes sexual abstinence until marriage and avoids discussion of use of contraceptives. Comprehensive sex education goes against some family morals and encourages teenagers to have sex. But abstinence only sex education does not teach students enough about sex or how to protect themselves from STDs and pregnancy. Comprehensive sex education should be mandatory in all of our nation s schools. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, sex education was strongly effected by Victorian values. Sex education at that time taught that sexually transmitted diseases were the result of punishment for immoral behaviors. The discussion over what to teach children about sex in school occurred as early as 1912. In the 1950 s the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Before going to see it and writing this paper, I decided to do some research on both of the plays to see if I could get a better understanding of them. As a result, I decided on Casa Valentina because it was about a topic that I was unfamiliar with. The play is set in the early 1960s when men would go to the Catskill Mountains and escape. But escape what? In this play, they would escape being men. Seeing the photographic oddness of men being dressed in little neat dresses has always been a source of comedy and a favorite in theatre. This play is no different. The play was also a huge success, being nominated for multiple awards, including four Tony s and winning other awards. With this in mind, I thought I was ready to view the play. What the playwright was trying to say about life is that everyone is different. It raised universal questions of who am I? What is my identity? To what are the differences in gender identity and sexual orientation? It truly posed some fascinating questions about these identities. It even provoked the question of what ensues in matrimony when one of the partners begins to represent both genders. What happens? Is one simply cut off? Is there room for them both? It brings out the central conflict of illusion versus reality in my eyes. This is because these are grown adult men, married with a spouse of the opposite sex. Yet in spite of all this, ... Critical Information About A Patient s Plan Of Care Specific problem requiring change and Situation description: The shift report between the off going and oncoming nurses must include all of the critical information about a patient s plan of care. This information must be communicated. The change of shift report that is done incorrectly can be a result of missed information and poor communication between nurses, affecting their ability to deliver safe and efficient care for the patients. This problem occurs not just at one but at most hospitals, where inter shift report still continues to take place at the nursing station without inclusion or a visual of the patient until the report is done. As I witnessed shift report in the hallways or at the nursing stations of SCVMC of the 33 bed mother and baby unit, I noticed that at times unnecessary information is received and critical information may not be communicated. On the other hand, at Redwood City Kaiser neuroscience unit bedside inter shift nursing report works well and I have witnessed better nurse patient relationship, lower incidents of falls, strong teamwork, as well as improved nurse accountability and prioritization at the beginning of the shift. The historical aspect, or the just war tradition, deals with the rules or agreements that have been applied to wars throughout time. Therefore, a nation would not need a just war cause other than having the right intentions and making sure that the war would produce the greatest good for the greatest number of individuals. The notion of jus in bello is to make sure that less evil will come about if the war is fought. For example, when looking at New York City s 9/11 bombings, a utilitarian would say that this was wrong : it was a selfish approach that did not end in the greatest good for the greatest number; a utilitarian would not go against a threat made by a country or world leader if the outcome would be the best for the entire world and would make it a better place than it was before. The other approach: people are going to war without a just cause other than for just good intentions. This would make the world a volatile, shaky unstable place. The next time you focus on these conveniences or advantages of your life, consider what you re doing to the wildlife environment. Wildlife habitats are being destroyed in many ways by many factors. For the purpose of this paper I m going to focus on the following five areas. Increased Development Fire Pollution of water Redistribution of water Natural Disasters All three factors above represent destructive factors contributing to habitat destruction. A habitat is defined as an undisturbed natural region in which wildlife lives. For example, fish live in ponds, bears and wolves, as well as deer and squirrels live in the forest. Lizards and snakes reside in the desert. To begin with, increased development is a major effect of threatening wildlife. Agriculture is causing wildlife to be destroyed because forests are being turned into croplands. They re increasing pressure to redevelop land conservation and crops.
