Sophocles Antigone
The Two Protagonists of Antigone
In the classic model of dramatic structure, two characters move the action of the play from
introduction to climax to resolution with their conflict. One of these characters is the protagonist; the
other is the antagonist. The protagonist is generally regarded as the good guy, and the antagonist is the
bad guy. In Sophocles play Antigone, the lines between protagonist and antagonist are blurred. In the
Greek tradition, the title character is the protagonist, but in this play, the supposed antagonist Creon
also displays characteristics of the protagonist.
Webster s Dictionary defines protagonist as one who takes the leading part in a drama; hence, one who
takes lead in some great scene, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the way his actions work and feed the conflict throughout also make Creon fit our definition
of a protagonist. After Antigone s capture, the play centers on Creon. He boasts of his decision to the
town leaders (the Chorus in this play), and he argues with Tiresias about his actions and leadership
ability. Tiresias endless enforcement of truth forces Creon to face his mistakes, even though his pride
is hurt: It s a dreadful thing to yield . . . but resist now? / Lay my pride bare to the blows of ruin? /
That s dreadful too. (page 661).
Not only does Creon possess too much pride, but he is also stubborn, not unlike Antigone. However,
Creon s pride and stubbornness are related. He does not want to admit to himself or others that he
could be wrong, so he makes the same mistakes over again. He could have pardoned Antigone, or
reversed his edict after his point was made clear, but no, he does not. Perhaps he is afraid of admitting
that he is capable of making mistakes in light of his less than perfect predecessors (Laius, Oedipus,
Eteocles, and Polynices, none of whom make very good role models for aspiring kings). Maybe he has
been king long enough that he has developed a large ego and does not recognize his own mortality.
Either way, his pride and stubbornness reflect in nearly every action that Creon makes in Antigone.
Creon undergoes a full realization in the play, which is

Ectodermal Dysplasias Essay
Ectodermal dysplasia is not a single disorder, but a group of syndromes all deriving from
abnormalities of the ectodermal structures.More than 150 different syndromes have been
identified.Despite some of the syndromes having different genetic causes the symptoms are sometimes
very similar. Diagnosis is usually by clinical observation often with the assistance of family medical
histories so that it can be determined whether transmission is autosomal dominant or
recessive.Worldwide around 7,000 people have been diagnosed with an ectodermal dysplasia
condition. Some ED conditions are only present in single family units and derive from very recent
mutations. Ectodermal dysplasias can occur in any race but are common in caucasians than any other
group and especially in fair caucasians.Ectodermal dysplasias are described as heritable conditions in
which there are abnormalities of two or more ectodermal structures such as the hair, teeth, nails, sweat
glands, salivary glands, cranial facial structure, digits and other parts of the body. ... Show more

The normal arrangement of internal organs is known as situs solitus while situs inversus is generally
the mirror image of situs solitus. Although cardiac problems are more common than in the general
population, most people with situs inversus have no medical symptoms or complications resulting
from the condition, and until the advent of modern medicine it was usually undiagnosed.Situs inversus
is found in about 0.01% of the population, or about 1 person in 10,000. In the most common situation,
situs inversus totalis, it involves complete transposition (right to left reversal) of all of the abdominal

Summary Of The Most Dangerous Game By Richard Connell
When I fell off the boat and into the water I could barely breath .. The story is mostly about how a
man gets hunted by another man and learns how animals feel when they get hunted. . Also how it feels
to get hunted like an animal. Also how people feel about each other. One important lesson readers can
learn from Richard connell s story The Most Dangerous Game is you don t know how someone feels
unless you are in a similar situation.
Rainsford tells Whitney that jaguars don t have feelings or fears or any emotions when they are being
hunted (Connell 3). This scene shows that Rainsford does not care about animals or their feelings. He
believes that they are mindless and emotionless. It also shows that he does not think of human beings

Democracy In The Lesson By Toni Cade Bambara
While the United States government is proclaimed to be a democracy, it consists many of the
imperfections demonstrated in the story written by Toni Cade Bambara, The Lesson . The protagonist
as well as her friends are enlightened as they explore a new environment, a toy store that contrasts
greatly with the slums they ventured from. Although the difference between the wealthy children and
the youth described in the story is missing, the injustice is displayed by their surroundings in addition
to the interactions they have with each toy they find. Through these expensive gadgets, the children
are shown how defective their democracy is, observing the many injustices inflicted on them and their
families. In a rights based society, there should ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Consequently, through being raised in an unjust system, these children demonstrate the importance of
living in a true democracy while they resort to habits that oppose a rights based society. Due to their
upbringings, they inflict the same injustices imposed on them. The protagonist is shown to interact
with the world in a negative manner, believing that due to her situation, she is allowed to get away
with stealing. For instance, when attempting to cheat the cab driver out of money, she decide[s] he
do[es]n t need it [as] bad as I do (Bambara 83), reasoning that the money is more useful for her family
than the cab drivers. This selfish judgement, like the inequality already imposed on her by society,
reveals how distorted her understanding of democracy is. A nation cannot function as a democracy if
not all understand the value of it; if given a taste of the true system, the children in this account would
not think of ways to corrupt it. By giving all an equal standard of living, negative thoughts like such
will dissipate. Likewise, when the group of children meet up with Miss Moore, Sugar asks very
serious like she s getting the ground rules

A Brief Note On The Air Temperature Inversion
1. Is a temperature inversion more likely to form on a calm or a windy night? Why? The air
temperature inversion is more likely to occur on a calm night versus a windy night. The inversion will
happen when the air, closest to the earth is a lot colder than the air higher in the atmosphere. Wind will
naturally mix and causing the temperature preventing an inversion. Temperature inversion may
happen during a cold front moving through. 2. What are the various methods used to protect sensitive
crops from damaging low temperatures? Explain why each method works. Fruit trees can be very
vulnerable for farmers (Ahrens 65). Many ways a farmer can protect their crops as they are
blossoming during low temperatures is by using orchard heaters or Smudge pots. Smudge pot warm
the air around the trees close to the ground producing heat to raise the temperatures. Another way that
farmer protects their crops to warm the ground. They way the ground is warmed is through a devices
such as a wind machine (Ahrens 65). A wind machine is a fan, which emulates propellers. One of the
advantages that the wind machines provide is that they turn on and off as they reach certain
temperatures. The basic way to protect crops is by covering them. On a cold night to protect small
plants of shrubs covering them with straw, cloth, or plastic sheeting will prevent ground heat from
being radiated away (Ahrens 65). 3. Would a strong radiation inversion be more likely to form on a

Athletes Being Good Role Models
Justin Perales Professor Hoke English 1301 4 16 2013 Role Models In professional sports today, there
are thousands of professional athletes. Some have more fame than others and have varying levels of
influence on young children throughout the world. It is important for all athletes to realize that they
are role models. Also to reflect a positive character to the youth around the world. Athletes tend to do
things in a selfish manner, not realizing that they have thousands of kids following their every move.
According to Solberg and Ringer professional athletes generally operate with a different set of values
and behavioral norms than do non athletes who participant at a less competitive level (93). When

outs in schools. When a kid sees the likes of LeBron James telling them that they should not drop out
of school, this is big in the eyes of the viewers. James also raised two point five million dollars for the
Boys Girls club of America. James is one of the best players in the NBA quite possibly the best player
on the face of the earth. For him to give time between his busy schedule for the kids, this shows that
there are athletes out there willing to be role models. Michael Jordan is another modeling figure, for
his efforts on the court and off. Jordan is a legend in any ones books; he is labeled as the best
basketball player of all time. Michael helps with the Special Olympics also with the Boys and Girls
Clubs of America, UNCF/College Fund, and a number of other charitable organizations that support
children and families. Michael Jordan makes people want to help others; this is what a role model
should be. Tim Tebow might be one of the biggest figures in any professional sport. For Tebow it s not
for the negative things he doesn t either, it s for all the good this young man does. Tebow is a
quarterback for the New York Jets, but this is not what he s known for the most. Tim is more
recognized for what he does off the field. Tim is a child of two missionaries; he has actually been on a

Archaeology shows that pistachio seeds were a common food as early as 6750 BC.[2] Pliny the Elder
writes in his Natural History that pistacia, well known among us , was one of the trees unique to Syria,
and that the seed was introduced into Italy by the Roman Proconsul in Syria, Lucius Vitellius the Elder
(in office in 35 AD) and into Hispania at the same time by Flaccus Pompeius.[5] The early sixth

Yale Symphony Orchestra Analysis
Bassoon, Brass, and Brahms: Highlights from Woolsey Hall On Saturday evening, the Yale Symphony
Orchestra delivered its final performance of the fall in the cavernous Woolsey Hall, featuring guest
conductor Andreas Stoehr and mezzo soprano Janna Baty. While the concert s title was full of
alliteration (Beethoven, Berg, and Brahms), the music itself was devoid of repetition and
predictability, with vast dynamic and melodic contrasts highlighting the performance. To begin the
concert, the orchestra delivered a strong rendition of Beethoven s Coriolan Overture, accentuated by
strong dynamic contrast and forceful brass sound throughout the piece. While the French horn and
trumpet added power to the piece through their volume, the melodic line, ... Show more content on

Particularly exciting was the hair raising fourth movement of the symphony, in which the conductor
came to life, jumping while conducting and giving sweeping, emotional cues to the orchestra. When
the first theme from the sonata form movement began in the strings, it seemed as if it would be
another peaceful movement. However, when the tutti played the theme with a sforzando volume, the
entire audience was reengaged. The orchestra executed with elite technical precision, with all strings
bows in sync. As with the rest of the concert, the group did a nice job contrasting loud, tutti sections
with minor, modulated solos, especially in the flute and clarinet. Even in a hall as cavernous as
Woolsey, the orchestra did a superb job with crisp pizzicato and staccato cutoffs. The only flaw in the
rendition of Brahms symphony was extreme dynamics: the trombones played with such vigor that
their sound began to spread, perpetuating the intonation problems the orchestra had throughout the
concert. Overall, the Yale Symphony Orchestra delivered an exquisite performance, riddled only by
perpetual intonation problems. The audience was very engaged, with a lengthy standing ovation at the
end of the concert, and no cell phones in sight throughout the truest sign of a phenomenal

Hayden Symphony 94 Analysis
The piece that I have decide to use is the Hayden Symphony 94. I will be using all four movements to
identify which criteria has been met by this piece. The Haydn Symphony 94 follows a form that works
for it with each of the four movements have an expressive section then a rhythmic section. Also,
during the second movement which is a theme and variation he repeated both themes but the second
time he would use a drastic dynamic change. (Criterion #1) Within movement 2 Haydn uses dynamic
contrast frequently. The first 15 measures of the piece are a succession of soft melodies then in the
16th measure Haydn places a loud note to grab the attention of the audience then he returns to his
quiets melodies. Haydn also wrote solos for the oboist and flautist, and concluding with a sweeping
and lyrical forte repeat in triplets (Symphony no. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Criterion #2) Movement 2 shows that Haydn use the different instruments families to add different
colors to each section of the piece. He starts this movement with the strings having the main theme
then adding the woodwinds to the main theme and to the accompanying parts. At certain parts of the
movement he has all instruments playing some form of the main theme. We can also here that the
main theme has moved from the high voices to the low voices throughout the movement. By the end
of the movement the we have the woodwinds completely taking over the melody while the stings are
playing the accompanying parts. (Criterion #3) Within the second movement of the symphony there is
this one loud note or chord among a group of soft chords. Once the audience has heard this once or
twice they come to predict the note because the previous nots grabbed our attention. (Criterion #4)
The expressive introduction section of movement 1 is followed by the very rhythmic section. This
shows that the music is not obvious and direct but it does set up the following movements form wise.

Voting Rights Act of 1965 Essay
The history of gerrymandering started during the term of Elbridge Gerry, the Governor of
Massachusetts, when he approved an obscure redistricting plan ahead of the 1812 elections that helped
Republicans hold on to power in the legislature. One of the redistricted districts that primarily
consisted of a one party defendant was shaped as a salamander, which later gave rise to this political
term (Keck, 2010). The term relates to the drawing of the boundaries of electoral districts in a way that
gives one party an unfair advantage over its rivals, which gives rise to the disproportionate
representation of Democratic and Republican parties (Encyclopedia Britannica, 2013). Historically,
both parties have used this form of redistricting to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Supreme Court reversed the ruling and held that bipartisan gerrymanders are constitutionally
acceptable.
In Davis v. Bandemer (1986), the Supreme Court held that partisan gerrymandering violated the Equal
Protection Clause, but the court couldn t agree on the appropriate constitutional standard against
which legality claims of partisan gerrymandering should and should not be evaluated. Justice White
said that partisan gerrymandering occurred when a redistricting was enacted with the both the intent
and the effect of discriminating against an identifiable political group. Justices Powell and Stevens
said that partisan gerrymandering should be based on multiple factors, such as electoral district shape,
adherence to local government boundaries. Justices O Connor, Burger, and Rehnquist disagreed and
held that such claims should be dismissed (Issacharoff, Karlan, Pildes, pp. 777 779).
Gerrymandering is often compared to redistricting which is supposed to achieve equality in districts
voting power, so called one person, one vote requirement. In the U.S. redistricting happens every 10
years to account for changes in population, so the votes will be worth the same amount (The James
Irvine Foundation ). Gerrymandering is based on the wasting or weakening of votes of what is usually

The Ethics Of Computer Forensics
In a world where technology is increasingly becoming the way of life, it was only a matter of time
before crime was no longer just in the streets but happening online as well. Criminals now get a new
approach to carry out their crimes with the use of computers. Since technology is more like a murder
mystery than catching the bad guy in the act, a new discipline of forensics needed to be put into place.
This is known as computer forensics. Forensic science is any science used for the purpose of law. In
the case of computer forensics it is the discipline that combines elements of law and computer science
to collect and analyze data from computer systems, networks, wireless communications, and storage
devices in a way that is admissible as evidence in a court of law (U.S. Cert, 2008). Meaning if you do
something illegal on the Internet it can be found. Since the widespread use of computers, computer
crime has caused an increase in computer investigations during the twenty first century. Some reasons
for investigation include: identity theft, such as stolen social security and credit card numbers, to find
evidence of a cheating spouse, to investigate hackers on a computer system, to find evidence of child
pornography, and much more.
History of Computer Forensics
The 1970s were when military investigators first started finding instances of computer related criminal
activity and needed a more comprehensive approach for solving these technical crimes. These first

The Importance Of The Social Identity Of American Culture
Since the dawn of mankind, society has proven subject to constant evolution, thus increasing the
importance of the understanding of customs present worldwide, among such habits proving both the
correlation and differentiation between each form of communication. An immense necessity under the
intention of providing international peace, whilst simultaneously maintaining respect of cultural
diversity, the ability to contribute amongst one another to the progression of civilization through
minimal conflict has proven a possibility through the awareness of alterations between the social
identity of others within the cultural spectrum. However, should misinterpretation result upon contrast
between separate social dynamics, the expectation of unity may fail to prove synonymous with reality,
thus creating the inability to decipher the exchange of ideas and the connection among others. Among
each form of communication, the social values present within my family have led to the belief of
having identified as direct in communication. Evident through the importance taught of honesty, I
have proven similar in social dynamics to the vast majority of American culture, thus primarily
remaining true to my personal opinion, the contextual circumstances present held in little regard.
Unfortunately, despite the apparent benefits of such matters, I have failed to prove similar in customs
in communication to those present among an English teacher of South Korean nationality. In

Stock Car Auto Racing Economic Analysis
Beginning in 1948, the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) organized the
sport in almost all of the Southeastern part of the United States. North and South Carolina, Georgia,
Florida, Alabama were among some of the first tracks on which NASCAR competed. With little
change in its relatively small fan base, fifty years later NASCAR began to search for ways to gain
mass appeal.
One of NASCARs most successful attempt to expand its fan base began in the late 90s with the
introduction of additional racetracks in large metropolitan areas, such as Las Vegas, Nevada;
Homestead, Florida; and Fort Worth, Texas. With the amount of revenue being brought by owners of

NASCAR s biggest challenges is trying to drive the production of new race tracks to other parts of the

Every year during March to April, is the months that the seal fisheries are active. This is known as the
seal hunting season, great amount of seals were killed for commercial purposes (Liberation BC, para
1). The hunting activities took place on the Newfoundland coast, the northern Gulf of St. Lawrence
and Inuit regions (Government of Canada, 2013, para 2). The seal hunt has been a dispute for years
between the support side and the oppose side. The argument is still being continued Seals are killed in
a cruel ways. Hakapik is a tool used by the fishers to hit the heads of the seals causing the seals to die.
Forty two percent of the seals are skinned alive (Liberation BC, para 9). The seal skins are warm and
waterproof; it is an excellent source to use to make coats, hats or scarfs for winter (Government of
Canada, 2012, para 3). It is illegal to kill seals that are under 11 days old because they haven t lost
their fur yet. Baby seals lose their white furs when they are 11 days old, and it is then legal to kill
them. Even though they are only babies (Liberation BC, para 2). The quota of the seal hunt was
400,000 in 2012. However, the quota suggested by the scientists was smaller (Liberation BC, para 1).
Fortunately, the numbers of seal hunters are starting to decrease. The reason is, that they do not make
much money out of it (Liberation BC, para 24). The action of hunting seals is not ecological because

but also all the people that live with him, see him express his homicidal tendencies but just ignore, or
who see him buy the guns, go outside, head to school and do nothing about this. The way she blames

She let people see how strongly and passionately she wants to end gun violence throughout the

To summarize, after her viral rally, there is almost nothing that can catch the nation from paying
attention to the Parkland tragedy at this moment. Some celebrities and media outlets have amplified
her speech and that helps to raise the chances of prevention. She is determined never to lose

Cluster Analysis And Factor Analysis
Introduction
Cluster analysis has many different algorithms and methods to classify objects(Saunders, 1994). One
of the challenges faced by the researchers in different areas is to organize their data which is possible
by cluster analysis, it is a data analysis tool which focus on classifying the different objects into
groups such that the degree of association of the objects in a same group is highest if they belong and
least if they do not belong. Cluster analysis is a simple term, it does not identify any statistical method
or model and also there is no need to make any assumptions about distribution of data, it is used to
form groups of relevant variables without providing any explanation (Stockburger, n.d.).
Despite their popularity, cluster analysis do provide a great opportunity for confusion and
misapplication when compared to factor analysis, discriminant analysis and multidimensional scaling
(Saunders, 1994). Both cluster analysis and factor analysis is used to organize the data into clusters or
onto factors, most of the researchers who are new to this concept may feel that these two analyses are
same, but they differ in many ways, the main objective of cluster analysis is to categorize the data,
whereas factor analysis simplify the data, it explains the correlation in a set of data and relate variables
to each other (Verial, n.d.). Cluster analysis and discriminant analysis are the two terms where we can
often get confused, the basic difference between them is

The Impact of the Tuberculosis Vaccine Essay
The Impact of the Tuberculosis Vaccine
Abstract
Tuberculosis is one of the most infectious diseases in the world. With almost one third of the world
infected with this virus, people are striving to help prevent the spread of this disease (NIAID, 2001).
One prevention technique for tuberculosis is the BCG (Bacillus of Calmette and Guerin) vaccine. In
the early twentieth century Calmette and Guerin worked together to isolate a strain of the disease
creating the first BCG vaccine. Throughout the century the scientists improved the BCG vaccine and
today there are several different strains of the vaccine available. However, even today its full effects
on the disease are unknown. The exploration of the effects of the vaccine, the best ... Show more

Mycobacterium bovis to immediately contain the Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The goal of the
vaccine is to keep the body functioning normally, even after contact with Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
The BCG vaccine was first created in the early twentieth century. In 1906, in Paris, scientists Calmette
and Guerin began experimenting with the vaccine for tuberculosis (NIAID, 2001). They isolated a
strain of Mycobacterium bovis from a cow and began their experimentation on the living organism.
After running tests on animals for over a decade, genetic changes began occurring in the original
strain; this new strain was called the BCG vaccine. In Europe, in 1921, Calmette and Guerin
introduced their vaccine to their first human subjects (WHO, 5). They fed the vaccine to baby patients
orally. By 1928, the Health Committee of the League of Nations admitted it into use (Pediatric
Research, 2002). Tuberculosis got off to a rocky start when it was first administered. In Lubeck,
Germany, almost a quarter of the babies given the BCG vaccine got the tuberculosis disease or
infection from the vaccine itself. The scandal caused general public to be skeptical of the vaccine.
Following the outbreak, it was discovered that the vaccine had been

The 18th Amendment And Prohibition
The 1920 s of America was a time of many dramatic social and political changes. New fads arose, the
economy changed, and thousands of people were transitioning from rural to urban areas. During this
time, new amendments emerged, like the 18th amendment. The 18th amendment, prohibition, may
have seemed like a positive thing at the time, but it caused countless problems like increased crime
rates, the court system and law enforcement became corrupted, and the making of homemade alcohol
increased. Crime rates, especially in urban areas, rapidly increased once Prohibition began. Crime was
already troublesome with gangs and such then, but with Prohibition crime became even worse, during
the first year of Prohibition the number of crimes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Prohibition affected lots of people s trust, which continues to be true today. The making of homemade
alcohol, also known as bathtub gin or bootleg alcohol, increased during Prohibition. During
prohibition, no one could produce, manufacture, transport, or sell alcohol; so people began making
their own, and it wasn t always the safest thing to drink. People would put any kinds of ingredients in
their bootleg alcohol, bootleg liquor is so concentrated and almost invariably contains other and more
deadly poisons than mere ethyl alcohol. Because no one could produce alcohol, anyone who wanted to
could make their own. Homemade alcohol started becoming increasingly popular, and it resulted in
many deaths because most of the time it was dangerous to ingest. Deaths because of homemade
alcohol started climbing more and more, the death rate from poisoned liquor was appallingly high
throughout the country. In 1925, the national toll was 4,154 as compared to 1,064 in 1920 (Thornton).
Thus, the new trend of homemade alcohol was not a good one. Prohibition influenced this unlawful
behavior, and it resulted in an increase of deaths. The approval of the 18th amendment produced many

Audi launches e tron, its nascent line of hybrid electric vehicles. The Audi A3 Sportback e tron name

Audi registered trademark, representing this brand s electric and hybrid vehicle efforts, much in the
same way Ford uses Energi to describe its own line of electrified vehicles. The 2016 Audi A3

the market the same year Audi s diesel engines were put on hold due to parent Volkswagen s emissions

what the diesel models would have provided. Nevertheless, Audi s US sales continue to rise despite

My Teaching Experience In Education
Am I a better teacher after working in the classrooms at BSES and KES? Absolutely. Before student
this experience, my teaching strategies were limited to book knowledge and my experiences of
teaching dance and theatre for the past five years. Working within the school setting, I learned the
importance in being flexible. Each time I entered a school, I generally knew what age student I would
be teaching, the progression of skill I planned to teach them, and how much time I had to complete my
lesson plan. What I did not know was how many students I would be managing, if my students could
speak English, what level of physical competency my students had mastered, or if I would be dealing
with any physical or mental impairments. I learned to think quickly on my feet and to adapt to the
class size; for instance, on my last day of teaching, I had prepared a lesson around using scoops,
because I thought my students already knew how to use them. When I found out they did not know
how to use them, I adapted, by changing from the games I had planned on teaching, to teaching the
basics of handling the scoops and practicing over hand and under hand throws and catching with the
scoops. The new skills were easy for some, yet hard for others; therefore, I adapted exercises to meet
the needs of diverse students. For some, I simplified, and, for others, I made the tasks more difficult.
Ultimately, the students enjoyed learning a new set of skills. Similarly, I learned to be flexible in how I

Biography of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
Although Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is often regarded as just an author, he was much more. His works
were inspired by the times and the people he met, and his literary influence remains relevant today. On
May 22, 1859 Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle was born in Edinburgh, Scotland to Charles and Mary
Doyle. He was their third child, and one of ten children all together. Charles Doyle was a political
cartoonist and civil servant who earned only £300 per year, so money was very tight in the household.

published in London Society. He said, It was in this year that I first learned that shillings might be

the whaling boat Hope. He loved the adventure and camaraderie on the barge saying, I went on board
the whaler a big straggling youth, I came off a powerful well grown man. and that the arctic awakened
the soul of a born wanderer. These experiences influenced the story Captain of the Pole Star. He went

Gerard David Virgin And Child With Four Angels
Gerard David created his oil on wood painting Virgin and Child with Four Angels from 1510 to 1515
in Bruges, Netherlands. The piece is currently located at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York
City and is found in Gallery 640 as part of the museum s collection of European paintings. Just as the
title indicates, the painting s subject is the Blessed Virgin Mary holding her infant son Jesus Christ, the
prophesied Messiah of the Old Testament, while being crowned by angels. Through the use of formal
artistic techniques, David conveys the miraculous and perfect nature of the Mary, stressing her
importance as the Mother of God and the Queen of Heaven in a realistic and relatable manner.
Throughout the Virgin and Child with Four Angels, David employs the use of color to emphasize the
miraculous nature of the religious subject matter. From the ornate jewels of the crown to the ruby red
color of Mary s gown to the amethyst purple sash of the angel in the upper right, the application of
rich jewel tones induces a sense of royal holiness to figures. Their brightness and warmth successfully
draw the viewer s attention to figures possessing them and generate an atmospheric serenity to the
scene. Additionally, the subtle flushness of the figures ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the top of the work, the angels are holding a crown, which is typically perceived as a symbol of
royalty, honor and/or glory. Hence, this symbol represents the glory of Mary as Queen of Heaven and
as the virgin Mother of God, which can be seen as worthy of both honor and praise. Another symbol is
in the middle ground of the piece, where a monk is praying in the field by the stone wall. In
Christianity, monks live solemn lives of prayer and service, completely devoted to spreading the Word
of God in the Christian Gospel. Therefore, the monk s presence creates a sense piety and holiness in
the scene, which lends well to the religious

The Copyright Law Of Canada Connected With An Ethical Line...
This paper discusses the copyright law in Canada connected with an ethical line in music sharing.
Before embarking on the discussion, it is imperative to understand what copyright entails under the
umbrella of intellectual property; the latter refers to intangible property, which is entirely a creation of
the mind (Alexander Penalver, 2012, p. 188). Copyright is the exclusive right granted to the original
author of literary work. In this effect, it prevents other people from using an authorship without
authorization by the original author. The latter grants license for the reproduction of copies of the
work, its usage, as well as distribution in lieu of some fee, i.e. royalty. Merges (2011) explains that
literary work encompasses a wide ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

music industry has been in dispute for many years in respect to music piracy. It went after software

however, not toward those who pirate from them (Easley, 2005, p.163). There is clear evidence of a
willingness to pay for online music in general through legal download services such as iTunes (Easley,
2005, p.163). It is clear that some new markets are emerging; for example, services such as 4G LTE
combine music with other services. These markets may provide both better margins and better
copyright protection to the music industry. Nevertheless, some forms of music piracy may ultimately
come to be seen as an effective marketing channel for those services (Easley, 2005, p.163). Clearly the
industry is adapting piracy issues. Based on the information mentioned above, the objective of this
paper is to emphasize the ethical dimensions of sharing music in the Canadian context. There are
different ways of such sharing like burning, lending, downloading, and uploading among others. The
argument is that burning and downloading are unethical while

Social Blindness
Authorial figures for many years, in many countries have been brain washing citizens. Social
blindness, the misuse of technology, and individuality all have to do with a society becoming totally
blind. The societies do not understand that their so called leaders who run their country are
indoctrinating their lives. A society becomes blind by authorial figures brainwashing citizens into
thinking all the wrong attributes are right, thus leading to a society with bigger problems than before.
To begin, social blindness is a way humans become blind folded to the worldly, economic problems in
the world. This problem of social blindness is not only displayed in the book, by Ayn Rand, Anthem,
but also in the modern day country of North Korea. In the documentary by National Geographic about
North Korea, it is stated that no one has control over their own lives, everything is dictated by their
supreme leader, Kim Jong un. He controls over the whole country. His policy is communism. Similar
to the book Anthem, he makes everyone believe how he rules is how it is supposed to be. That is
wrong. He rules as almost a God like dictator. This has been going on for so many years, it is normal
for the people of North Korea, thus making them socially blind to the all the wrong attributes set forth
by Kim Jong un. This verifies the idea of citizens being indoctrinated because of authorial figures and
the inhuman ways they rule. They rule as a person who is way higher or above the citizens of

The Importance Of Corporal Punishment In Education
Corporal punishment has been practiced for many centuries, available throughout many countries.
This form of punishment is thought to be an effective method for obedience. However, corporal
punishment is becoming a growing concern throughout the US. Multiple research reveals that the
obedience gained from corporal punishment lasts only for a short amount of time and may cause other
issues, both mentally and physically. Each individual has a set of ethics that differs from every other
person. Due to this difference, there have been many controversies in the use of corporal punishment.
This becomes an issue in multiple environments for teachers and parents alike. As said before, each
individual s set of ethics differethical frame differs and thus each teacher must incorporate their own
ethics into the educational environment. Since there are no defining lines for the degrees of physical
pain dealt to the students,#there are line 2017 its called abuse it is up to those in charge to see if the

punishment is often used for academic reasons, howeverbut western countries, such as the United
States, often incorporate corporal punishment to reinforce the compliance of students. Educators need
to reexamine the situation and gauge the student body s voice.

always believed that great writing centered around well written stories that would both provide a
certain measure of unaffected pleasure, as well as challenge the readers perception of the world at

encompasses both of those requirements; by enfolding his readers, through a variety of means, within
the intricate workings of his narrative. It centers around would be heroine Oedipa Maas, a practical

reader by deciding to go on, however aimlessly, she is forcibly drawn out of the complacency of her

Divine Command Theory also believes that there is an absolute moral law which is what God says to

Analysis Of The Crucifixion Of Christ
The crucifixion of Christ is the most important event that is recorded in the Bible. One of Christ s final
sentences before dying on the cross, It is finished! , means that the price of salvation for all the world
was paid in full with the crucifixion of Jesus (John 14:6, NAS). Jesus dying on the cross for our sins is
not just a story in the Bible, it is an event that a man was tortured until He died all because He loved
us so much that we could have everlasting life (John 3:16, NAS). The painting of Christ being tortured
evokes an emotional response. The image makes the story in the Bible come to life.
The tempera on canvas was a triptych painted for St. John s in Hamburg, Germany in 1394 (Art and
the Bible, 2017). The depiction of this event by Bertram of Minden is one of the very few art pieces
that show the nailing of Jesus to the cross (Art and the Bible, 2017). During the Christianization of
Germany in medieval times, the Bible influenced almost every aspect of German life (Jeep, 2017, p.
54). During the time of Bertram, the Bible was primarily a Latin document only available to the
educated (Jeep, 2017, p. 54). Readings of the Bible during church services were spoken or chanted in
Latin. Germans who did not understand Latin could attend church and have access to the stories and
teachings of God through paintings and motifs such as the painting of the crucifixion by Bertram.
Why is the crucifixion of Jesus so important? If the Romans at that time were willing

Essay on Imperialism- Conrad s Heart of Darkness
Imperialism and its oppressive processes have affected societies as well as individual lives for
centuries. In Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness, oppression through imperialism demonstrates how a
certain civilization, the Congolese, is affected negatively by imperialism. By focusing on Africa, it
allows for a graphic recount of the many years spent reigned by foreign oppressors and tyrannies. In
Heart of Darkness, the Congo is oppressed by the imperialists economically and geographically. As
well, the oppressed people are taken advantage of spiritually. Conrad describes how the ruling tyrant is
affected by the process of conquering a local people and this draws a parallel to the ruling empire.

land and its resources; it also affects those inhabiting it. Marlow describes the Congolese s spirituality
being oppressed, The conquest of the earth, which mostly means the taking is away from those who
have a different complexion of slightly flatter noses than ourselves, is not a pretty thing when you
look into it too much. (Conrad, 69). Marlow discusses his aunt s thoughts on the process, She talked
about weaning those ignorant millions from their horrid ways. He watches the Europeans using their
own laws to control and oppress the people of the Congo, for example, he sees an ugly chain gang at
the first station, which does not seem as though they are criminals. Nevertheless, the European law
had decided for the natives, Marlow describes, like shells from the man of war, like an insoluble
mystery from the sea. (Conrad, 12). The Congolese appointed to work on his ship, he describes as,
still belonging, to the beginnings of time, but as long as there was a piece of paper written over in
accordance with some farcical law or other made down the river, it didn t enter anybody s head to
trouble how they would live. (Conrad, 33 34). Skulls of then men judged by the European law were

The Problem Of Violent Crime
1.0 INTRODUCTION
Violent crime is a serious problem and could not to be neglected in present society. It means all
incidents of wounding and assault with or without injury in the Crime Survey for England and Wales
(ONS, 2015). The crime rate in Liverpool was about 90.86 per 1000 population in police record by the
end of June 2015 (HO, 2015). According to Liverpool City Council (2015), the violence rate per 1000
population was increase 16.6% from 2013 to 2014 and reach 10.2 from April 2014 to March 2015,
higher than other crime. At the same time, the number in 1000 people that experience personal
robbery was about 485, not all robberies would be reported to the police so maybe the real condition
was graver. Hence, violence and robbery continue to be of increasing concern.
In order to descend violent crime, arrange more police on the street might be a suitable option. Many
researchers found this solution lead to the steady decline of crime rate (Ratcliffe et al, 2011).
However, the expensive cost might limit the scale of this method. Correctional education is also an
effectively solution of offender but take a long time. A combined system of hotspot policing and
prison education may be possible if care is reducing crime rate.
Therefore, this report will compare the feasibility of police patrol and correctional education in terms
of cost and effectiveness, thereby exploring the more viable method to reduce violent crime in
Liverpool.

The Roman Empire and the Han Empire
After the collapse of the Qin Dynasty in the third century BCE, the Han Empire emerged as a massive
imperial power in the East. Its culture was compiled upon the teachings of Confucius and ancestor
worship. Meanwhile in the west, the Romans solidified their authority as being a dominant force in the
Mediterranean. Both the Roman Empire and the Han Empire were similar in their governments as
they both supported a centralized government. On the other hand, they were different in the manner of
how they dealt with foreigners and outside visitors. Although the Han Empire and the Roman Empire
were alike, there are more differences between them than similarities. One difference between the two
empires were their treatment with foreigners. The Hans believed that they had no need for them to be
included within the Empire. However, this was not the case for the Romans. The Roman Empire
would accept outsiders and tolerate them. The Empire treated the foreigners well even to the extent of
making them citizens. During this time however, the Romans did not have enough people to go to war.
This led them into giving the barbarians jobs in the military. Soon, there were so many foreign soldiers
to the degree that almost 70% of the entire army were barbarians. The reason why the Hans looked
down upon the barbarians was because the Hans thought that the barbarians were inferior. One reason
why the Hans thought that they were so superior was their belief of the Mandate of Heaven. The

Airline Industry Essay 15
The airline industry is a large and growing industry. Air travel plays a very important role in economic
growth and world trade. It is expanding for either of the following reasons that is for business purpose
or leisure travel. It helps in increasing the international investment as well as tourism. The airlines
have made it more comfortable to travel from one place to another, and now are offering reasonable
rates. Affordable rates encourage people to travel further to new places. As a result, people have
started traveling to new exotic destinations. Billions of passengers are traveling every year by way of
the airline industry. The airline industry is not only growing in developed countries but it is growing in

In the year 2006, seat load factor recorded a growth of 76 percent. In the past five years, non fuel unit
cost has dropped by 15 percent.
The main air travel market in terms of passenger trips will continue to be in and between North
America, Europe and Asia. Events at the international level, affects the air travel business directly. For
instance, during the first half of the 1990 s, the airline industry suffered a lot because of world
recession. The Gulf War also affected the air travel during this time. Profitability of the airline industry
is closely related to the economic growth and world trade. During 1990 to 1994, the member airlines
of the International Airport Transport Association suffered cumulative net losses of $20.4 billion.
After this, the member airlines realized that if they want to survive and become profitable, it is
essential for them to bring drastic changes. Without bringing changes, it is not possible for them to
become prosperous. Many actions are being taken. Some airlines tried to cut costs, increase the load
factors etc. Many airlines tried to reduce the capacity growth. These efforts helped a lot to the industry
in gaining profitable position, which existed earlier. In the year 1996, the member airlines recorded a
profit of $5 billion, which was only 2 percent less than the total revenues. According to the
International Airport Transport Association, this profit level is not

Use Of A Theory And Pagerank Algorithm
Mathematics in Football
The purpose of this report is to research the use of mathematics in football. In particular, we have
researched the use of network theory and PageRank algorithm. The report aims to consider which
strategies are optimal and discuss whether teams ought to adopt a more mathematical approach to on
field play.
Introduction
Network theory is becoming more and more used within football to help teams analyse and change
their style of play. It consists of a collection of nodes, with edges joining them that are weighted
depending on how frequent a path is used. In football, the nodes represent the players of a team, the
edges will be the passes between them and the weight will be the amount of passes between them. We
will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The PageRank algorithm gives more weight to a link if it comes from a high ranking page. In terms of
football this means a pass from a popular player is more valuable than a pass from a player who is
hardly involved in the game. Player s statistics constantly change throughout the game and the
PageRank score of a player depends on the score of his teammates so all scores must be computed at
the same time and the algorithm is only finished once the game has ended. In summary, PageRank
algorithm roughly assigns to each player the probability that he will have the ball after a reasonable
number of passes have been made. [8]
Mathematical Background
One way to analyse players position is closeness centrality, which is defined as the inverse geodesic
distance of a node in the network [1]:
(1)
Where Aij is the total amount of passes from player i to j. This formula uses incoming and outgoing
passes as equal measure. This will show how well connected the players are to each other.
Another way is betweenness centrality, which measures the extent to which a node lies on paths
between other nodes[2]:
(2)
Where is the number of geodesic paths from j to k going through i and is the total number of geodesic
paths.
The PageRank algorithm can be defined by: (3)
Where = is the total number of passes made by player , is a heuristic parameter that represents the
probability of the player keeping the

Cdc And Its Partners Are Piloting A High Impact Prevention
CDC Involvement CDC and its partners are piloting a high impact prevention tactic to improvement
the goals of the National HIV/AIDS strategy (NHAS), increase the proficiency of present HIV
prevention approaches, and improve scrutiny among AI/AN. Listed below are some of the activities
that included:
1. Working with the Indian Health Service (HIS) and tribal leaders of the CDC Tribal Consultation
Advisory Committee to discuss methods for developing and implementing scalable, effective
prevention intervention approached that reach those at great risk for HIV and AIDS, including young
gay and bisexual AI/AN men .
2. Providing support and technical assistance to the health departments and community based
organizations to deliver effective prevention intervention for AI/AN .
3. Ensuring that capacity building assistance providers incorporate cultural competency, and
linguistics and educational appropriateness into all services delivered . (CDC)
Treatments
The most common reason AI/AN respondents were tested for HIV was because of illness. The primary
prevention is to prevent, secondly prevention would be getting tested early/detect and treat disease that
has not yet become symptomatic, tertiary prevention would be staying adherent to the ARV
regimen/prevent further deterioration, recurrent symptoms, and subsequent events (Rowan, 2013).
There are additional factors that will help patients with HIV /AIDS for example, the drug called AZT.

Examining Evidence Based Practice For Patients With Chest...
The important arguments for the need to implement evidence based practice (EBP) are that it leads to
the highest quality of care and the best patient outcome (Melnyk Fineout Overholt, 2011). It is the
standard of practice for nurses to be able to use research skills for evidence based knowledge that are
relevant to their clinical practice. The purpose of this paper is to outline and compare the selected
articles on how the study findings related to patients with chest pain, to determine the validity and
reliability of the selected articles, and to formulate a plan for implementing the newly acquired
knowledge into clinical practice. Selected Articles to the Phenomenon of Interest Chest pain is a
common complaint in all health care setting. The cause can be from mild self limiting musculoskeletal
disorder to life threatening condition like acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Approximately 24.5 to
49.8% of patients with chest pain have chest wall syndrome, and only 1.5 to 3.6% of patients have
ACS that need immediate interventions (Haasenritter et al., 2015). Therefore, the selected meta
analysis articles will be focus on the most common cause of chest pain the musculoskeletal pain,
(Croft, Peat, van der Windt, 2010), and the most serious cause of chest pain, the ACS (Abbas, 2015).
Brief summaries of the selected quantitative and qualitative articles appear in the Appendix. The cause
of pain can be puzzling and is not always related to specific pathology (Croft et al.,

Business Analysis On Business Communication
Although much associated with business still relies on face to face communication, technology has
taken its place in business to business communication practices as being reliable, effective, and
efficient. Whether discussing a major decision with an executive level officer, starting a new company
in search of product and distribution, or informing a department that layoffs may occur, the
communication process remains the same. A purpose defines the reason a process begins. The initiator,
or the sender, has an intended message for a specific audience, the receiver. With business to business
communication, technology used to deliver the message, the environment in which the communication
takes place, and the noise that causes distractions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(About.com, 2011). On a good day, walking into a business to solicit a different product, service, or
partnership opportunity means that a decision maker has been spoken with and an additional
appointment may be established so that decision maker can have more available time to hear what is
being pitched. More than likely, however, a card or name will be collected with contact information
and that particular individual must create a method of re contacting those potential business
opportunities at a later time. Through the use of VOIP, or voice over Internet provider as a less
expensive way for a business to have phone services, a call is made to create a relationship that could
potentially provide additional opportunities. The salesperson acts as the sender with the purpose of
selling his company s products or services. The receiver should be the decision making contact that
had been collected while cold calling. The environment is more than likely a cubicle to personal office
setting and depending on how the day of that decision maker is going will determine if the noise
becomes too distracting. If the message is delivered successfully, hopefully that salesman will receive
positive feedback.
In this particular situation, the message and technology used are appropriate given the environment
and purpose because unless that salesperson makes face to face contact on the initial visit, phone and e
mail will be that individual s only available means of

Parent Writing Contest Analysis
Parent Writing Contest
In completing this essay I was provided an opportunity to share the academic, social, and emotional
success of my child Jamya Horton. Initially when I was informed of the contest I was not eager to
participate. However, after reflecting on her growth I realized, not sharing her testimony would be a
disservice of the developmental tools Michigan Math and Science Academy has provided to her.
In 2014, I made an executive decision to transfer her to MMSA due her prior school failing her.
During middle school Jamya taught herself how to complete class assignments and homework via
textbooks and YouTube. Once accepted at MMSA was placed into 9B classes. She took the initiative
to meet with her counselor to see what steps she could take in order to be promoted into 9A honor
classes. After meeting with her counselor, she wholeheartly put an effort into studying which ... Show

  • 2. Sophocles Antigone The Two Protagonists of Antigone In the classic model of dramatic structure, two characters move the action of the play from introduction to climax to resolution with their conflict. One of these characters is the protagonist; the other is the antagonist. The protagonist is generally regarded as the good guy, and the antagonist is the bad guy. In Sophocles play Antigone, the lines between protagonist and antagonist are blurred. In the Greek tradition, the title character is the protagonist, but in this play, the supposed antagonist Creon also displays characteristics of the protagonist. Webster s Dictionary defines protagonist as one who takes the leading part in a drama; hence, one who takes lead in some great scene, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the way his actions work and feed the conflict throughout also make Creon fit our definition of a protagonist. After Antigone s capture, the play centers on Creon. He boasts of his decision to the town leaders (the Chorus in this play), and he argues with Tiresias about his actions and leadership ability. Tiresias endless enforcement of truth forces Creon to face his mistakes, even though his pride is hurt: It s a dreadful thing to yield . . . but resist now? / Lay my pride bare to the blows of ruin? / That s dreadful too. (page 661). Not only does Creon possess too much pride, but he is also stubborn, not unlike Antigone. However, Creon s pride and stubbornness are related. He does not want to admit to himself or others that he could be wrong, so he makes the same mistakes over again. He could have pardoned Antigone, or reversed his edict after his point was made clear, but no, he does not. Perhaps he is afraid of admitting that he is capable of making mistakes in light of his less than perfect predecessors (Laius, Oedipus, Eteocles, and Polynices, none of whom make very good role models for aspiring kings). Maybe he has been king long enough that he has developed a large ego and does not recognize his own mortality. Either way, his pride and stubbornness reflect in nearly every action that Creon makes in Antigone. Creon undergoes a full realization in the play, which is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although the difference between the wealthy children and the youth described in the story is missing, the injustice is displayed by their surroundings in addition to the interactions they have with each toy they find. • 6. A Brief Note On The Air Temperature Inversion 1. Is a temperature inversion more likely to form on a calm or a windy night? Why? The air temperature inversion is more likely to occur on a calm night versus a windy night. The inversion will happen when the air, closest to the earth is a lot colder than the air higher in the atmosphere. Wind will naturally mix and causing the temperature preventing an inversion. Temperature inversion may happen during a cold front moving through. 2. What are the various methods used to protect sensitive crops from damaging low temperatures? Explain why each method works. Fruit trees can be very vulnerable for farmers (Ahrens 65). Many ways a farmer can protect their crops as they are blossoming during low temperatures is by using orchard heaters or Smudge pots. Smudge pot warm the air around the trees close to the ground producing heat to raise the temperatures. Another way that farmer protects their crops to warm the ground. They way the ground is warmed is through a devices such as a wind machine (Ahrens 65). A wind machine is a fan, which emulates propellers. One of the advantages that the wind machines provide is that they turn on and off as they reach certain temperatures. The basic way to protect crops is by covering them. • 20. Cluster Analysis And Factor Analysis Introduction Cluster analysis has many different algorithms and methods to classify objects(Saunders, 1994). One of the challenges faced by the researchers in different areas is to organize their data which is possible by cluster analysis, it is a data analysis tool which focus on classifying the different objects into groups such that the degree of association of the objects in a same group is highest if they belong and least if they do not belong. Cluster analysis is a simple term, it does not identify any statistical method or model and also there is no need to make any assumptions about distribution of data, it is used to form groups of relevant variables without providing any explanation (Stockburger, n.d.). Despite their popularity, cluster analysis do provide a great opportunity for confusion and misapplication when compared to factor analysis, discriminant analysis and multidimensional scaling (Saunders, 1994). Both cluster analysis and factor analysis is used to organize the data into clusters or onto factors, most of the researchers who are new to this concept may feel that these two analyses are same, but they differ in many ways, the main objective of cluster analysis is to categorize the data, whereas factor analysis simplify the data, it explains the correlation in a set of data and relate variables to each other (Verial, n.d.). When the body is finally faced with the Tuberculosis Vaccine Page 2 organism, it will hopefully have adapted enough to the strain of Mycobacterium bovis to immediately contain the Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The goal of the vaccine is to keep the body functioning normally, even after contact with Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The BCG vaccine was first created in the early twentieth century. In 1906, in Paris, scientists Calmette and Guerin began experimenting with the vaccine for tuberculosis (NIAID, 2001). They isolated a strain of Mycobacterium bovis from a cow and began their experimentation on the living organism. After running tests on animals for over a decade, genetic changes began occurring in the original strain; this new strain was called the BCG vaccine. In Europe, in 1921, Calmette and Guerin introduced their vaccine to their first human subjects (WHO, 5). They fed the vaccine to baby patients orally. By 1928, the Health Committee of the League of Nations admitted it into use (Pediatric Research, 2002). Tuberculosis got off to a rocky start when it was first administered. In Lubeck, Germany, almost a quarter of the babies given the BCG vaccine got the tuberculosis disease or infection from the vaccine itself. The scandal caused general public to be skeptical of the vaccine. Following the outbreak, it was discovered that the vaccine had been ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Before student this experience, my teaching strategies were limited to book knowledge and my experiences of teaching dance and theatre for the past five years. Working within the school setting, I learned the importance in being flexible. Each time I entered a school, I generally knew what age student I would be teaching, the progression of skill I planned to teach them, and how much time I had to complete my lesson plan. What I did not know was how many students I would be managing, if my students could speak English, what level of physical competency my students had mastered, or if I would be dealing with any physical or mental impairments. I learned to think quickly on my feet and to adapt to the class size; for instance, on my last day of teaching, I had prepared a lesson around using scoops, because I thought my students already knew how to use them. When I found out they did not know how to use them, I adapted, by changing from the games I had planned on teaching, to teaching the basics of handling the scoops and practicing over hand and under hand throws and catching with the scoops. The new skills were easy for some, yet hard for others; therefore, I adapted exercises to meet the needs of diverse students. For some, I simplified, and, for others, I made the tasks more difficult. Ultimately, the students enjoyed learning a new set of skills. Similarly, I learned to be flexible in how I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The piece is currently located at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City and is found in Gallery 640 as part of the museum s collection of European paintings. Just as the title indicates, the painting s subject is the Blessed Virgin Mary holding her infant son Jesus Christ, the prophesied Messiah of the Old Testament, while being crowned by angels. Through the use of formal artistic techniques, David conveys the miraculous and perfect nature of the Mary, stressing her importance as the Mother of God and the Queen of Heaven in a realistic and relatable manner. Throughout the Virgin and Child with Four Angels, David employs the use of color to emphasize the miraculous nature of the religious subject matter. From the ornate jewels of the crown to the ruby red color of Mary s gown to the amethyst purple sash of the angel in the upper right, the application of rich jewel tones induces a sense of royal holiness to figures. Before embarking on the discussion, it is imperative to understand what copyright entails under the umbrella of intellectual property; the latter refers to intangible property, which is entirely a creation of the mind (Alexander Penalver, 2012, p. 188). Copyright is the exclusive right granted to the original author of literary work. In this effect, it prevents other people from using an authorship without authorization by the original author. Social blindness, the misuse of technology, and individuality all have to do with a society becoming totally blind. The societies do not understand that their so called leaders who run their country are indoctrinating their lives. A society becomes blind by authorial figures brainwashing citizens into thinking all the wrong attributes are right, thus leading to a society with bigger problems than before. To begin, social blindness is a way humans become blind folded to the worldly, economic problems in the world. This problem of social blindness is not only displayed in the book, by Ayn Rand, Anthem, but also in the modern day country of North Korea. In the documentary by National Geographic about North Korea, it is stated that no one has control over their own lives, everything is dictated by their supreme leader, Kim Jong un. He controls over the whole country. His policy is communism. Similar to the book Anthem, he makes everyone believe how he rules is how it is supposed to be. That is wrong. He rules as almost a God like dictator. This has been going on for so many years, it is normal for the people of North Korea, thus making them socially blind to the all the wrong attributes set forth by Kim Jong un. One of Christ s final sentences before dying on the cross, It is finished! , means that the price of salvation for all the world was paid in full with the crucifixion of Jesus (John 14:6, NAS). Jesus dying on the cross for our sins is not just a story in the Bible, it is an event that a man was tortured until He died all because He loved us so much that we could have everlasting life (John 3:16, NAS). The painting of Christ being tortured evokes an emotional response. The image makes the story in the Bible come to life. The tempera on canvas was a triptych painted for St. John s in Hamburg, Germany in 1394 (Art and the Bible, 2017). The depiction of this event by Bertram of Minden is one of the very few art pieces that show the nailing of Jesus to the cross (Art and the Bible, 2017). During the Christianization of Germany in medieval times, the Bible influenced almost every aspect of German life (Jeep, 2017, p. 54). During the time of Bertram, the Bible was primarily a Latin document only available to the educated (Jeep, 2017, p. 54). Readings of the Bible during church services were spoken or chanted in Latin. • 42. The Problem Of Violent Crime 1.0 INTRODUCTION Violent crime is a serious problem and could not to be neglected in present society. It means all incidents of wounding and assault with or without injury in the Crime Survey for England and Wales (ONS, 2015). The crime rate in Liverpool was about 90.86 per 1000 population in police record by the end of June 2015 (HO, 2015). According to Liverpool City Council (2015), the violence rate per 1000 population was increase 16.6% from 2013 to 2014 and reach 10.2 from April 2014 to March 2015, higher than other crime. At the same time, the number in 1000 people that experience personal robbery was about 485, not all robberies would be reported to the police so maybe the real condition was graver. Hence, violence and robbery continue to be of increasing concern. In order to descend violent crime, arrange more police on the street might be a suitable option. Many researchers found this solution lead to the steady decline of crime rate (Ratcliffe et al, 2011). However, the expensive cost might limit the scale of this method. Correctional education is also an effectively solution of offender but take a long time. A combined system of hotspot policing and prison education may be possible if care is reducing crime rate. Therefore, this report will compare the feasibility of police patrol and correctional education in terms of cost and effectiveness, thereby exploring the more viable method to reduce violent crime in Liverpool. 2.0 BACKGROUNG Liverpool is a city in ... • 43. The Roman Empire and the Han Empire After the collapse of the Qin Dynasty in the third century BCE, the Han Empire emerged as a massive imperial power in the East. Its culture was compiled upon the teachings of Confucius and ancestor worship. Meanwhile in the west, the Romans solidified their authority as being a dominant force in the Mediterranean. Both the Roman Empire and the Han Empire were similar in their governments as they both supported a centralized government. On the other hand, they were different in the manner of how they dealt with foreigners and outside visitors. Although the Han Empire and the Roman Empire were alike, there are more differences between them than similarities. One difference between the two empires were their treatment with foreigners. The Hans believed that they had no need for them to be included within the Empire. However, this was not the case for the Romans. The Roman Empire would accept outsiders and tolerate them. The Empire treated the foreigners well even to the extent of making them citizens. During this time however, the Romans did not have enough people to go to war. This led them into giving the barbarians jobs in the military. Soon, there were so many foreign soldiers to the degree that almost 70% of the entire army were barbarians. The reason why the Hans looked down upon the barbarians was because the Hans thought that the barbarians were inferior. One reason why the Hans thought that they were so superior was their belief of the Mandate of Heaven. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For instance, during the first half of the 1990 s, the airline industry suffered a lot because of world recession. The Gulf War also affected the air travel during this time. Profitability of the airline industry is closely related to the economic growth and world trade. During 1990 to 1994, the member airlines of the International Airport Transport Association suffered cumulative net losses of $20.4 billion. After this, the member airlines realized that if they want to survive and become profitable, it is essential for them to bring drastic changes. Without bringing changes, it is not possible for them to become prosperous. Many actions are being taken. Some airlines tried to cut costs, increase the load factors etc. Many airlines tried to reduce the capacity growth. These efforts helped a lot to the industry in gaining profitable position, which existed earlier. In the year 1996, the member airlines recorded a profit of $5 billion, which was only 2 percent less than the total revenues. • 45. Use Of A Theory And Pagerank Algorithm Mathematics in Football The purpose of this report is to research the use of mathematics in football. In particular, we have researched the use of network theory and PageRank algorithm. The report aims to consider which strategies are optimal and discuss whether teams ought to adopt a more mathematical approach to on field play. Introduction Network theory is becoming more and more used within football to help teams analyse and change their style of play. It consists of a collection of nodes, with edges joining them that are weighted depending on how frequent a path is used. In football, the nodes represent the players of a team, the edges will be the passes between them and the weight will be the amount of passes between them. We will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The PageRank algorithm gives more weight to a link if it comes from a high ranking page. In terms of football this means a pass from a popular player is more valuable than a pass from a player who is hardly involved in the game. Player s statistics constantly change throughout the game and the PageRank score of a player depends on the score of his teammates so all scores must be computed at the same time and the algorithm is only finished once the game has ended. In summary, PageRank algorithm roughly assigns to each player the probability that he will have the ball after a reasonable number of passes have been made. [8] Mathematical Background One way to analyse players position is closeness centrality, which is defined as the inverse geodesic distance of a node in the network [1]: (1) Where Aij is the total amount of passes from player i to j. This formula uses incoming and outgoing passes as equal measure. This will show how well connected the players are to each other. Another way is betweenness centrality, which measures the extent to which a node lies on paths between other nodes[2]: (2) Where is the number of geodesic paths from j to k going through i and is the total number of geodesic paths. The PageRank algorithm can be defined by: (3) Where = is the total number of passes made by player , is a heuristic parameter that represents the probability of the player keeping the

  • 48. Examining Evidence Based Practice For Patients With Chest... The important arguments for the need to implement evidence based practice (EBP) are that it leads to the highest quality of care and the best patient outcome (Melnyk Fineout Overholt, 2011). It is the standard of practice for nurses to be able to use research skills for evidence based knowledge that are relevant to their clinical practice. The purpose of this paper is to outline and compare the selected articles on how the study findings related to patients with chest pain, to determine the validity and reliability of the selected articles, and to formulate a plan for implementing the newly acquired knowledge into clinical practice. Selected Articles to the Phenomenon of Interest Chest pain is a common complaint in all health care setting. The cause can be from mild self limiting musculoskeletal disorder to life threatening condition like acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Approximately 24.5 to 49.8% of patients with chest pain have chest wall syndrome, and only 1.5 to 3.6% of patients have ACS that need immediate interventions (Haasenritter et al., 2015). Therefore, the selected meta analysis articles will be focus on the most common cause of chest pain the musculoskeletal pain, (Croft, Peat, van der Windt, 2010), and the most serious cause of chest pain, the ACS (Abbas, 2015). Brief summaries of the selected quantitative and qualitative articles appear in the Appendix. The cause of pain can be puzzling and is not always related to specific pathology (Croft et al., ... Whether discussing a major decision with an executive level officer, starting a new company in search of product and distribution, or informing a department that layoffs may occur, the communication process remains the same. A purpose defines the reason a process begins. The initiator, or the sender, has an intended message for a specific audience, the receiver. On a good day, walking into a business to solicit a different product, service, or partnership opportunity means that a decision maker has been spoken with and an additional appointment may be established so that decision maker can have more available time to hear what is being pitched. More than likely, however, a card or name will be collected with contact information and that particular individual must create a method of re contacting those potential business opportunities at a later time. Through the use of VOIP, or voice over Internet provider as a less expensive way for a business to have phone services, a call is made to create a relationship that could potentially provide additional opportunities. The salesperson acts as the sender with the purpose of selling his company s products or services. The receiver should be the decision making contact that had been collected while cold calling. The environment is more than likely a cubicle to personal office setting and depending on how the day of that decision maker is going will determine if the noise becomes too distracting. If the message is delivered successfully, hopefully that salesman will receive positive feedback. In this particular situation, the message and technology used are appropriate given the environment and purpose because unless that salesperson makes face to face contact on the initial visit, phone and e mail will be that individual s only available means of ... Initially when I was informed of the contest I was not eager to participate.
