Waimanalo Research Paper
The key geological features played a significant role in creating Waimanalo. Waimanalo was formed
by a catastrophic landslide from the Nuuanu Pali all the way down to the coast and to the ending of
Makapu`u. Under the water lay debris and material from this landslide. In the 1960 s, the US Navy
first found out about this information by a single beam sonar surveying a utilized improved radio
navigation system. In the 1980 s, a multibeam side scan sonar, GLORIA, imaged in unprecedented
detail known landslides, and also discovered new ones. Then finally, came the JAMESTEC multibeam
profiler which surveys and utilized GPS navigation, produced detailed maps of the entire landslide for
the first time. Waimanalo was created by a catastrophic landslide that happened millions of years ago.

Although it may seem complicated, the ahupua a system was land divisions. Each ahupua a had a

had a system like no other monarchy ever had. As it is said in the books that this is one of the most
devastating overthrows of any monarchy in the world. The United States had recognized Hawaii s
presence long before they wanted to overthrow the monarchy s . America had seen how Hawaiians
take care of their land. The overthrow was led by American sugar planters under Sanford Ballard

provincial government. When the coup happened, it was not only led with a U.S. minister to Hawaii
(John L. Stevens), but also 300 U.S. Marines. The marines were allegedly here to protect American

Experiment to Determine How Heart Rate is Affected by...
Throughout this investigation, I will be conducting a number of experiments to help solve whether or
not heart rate is affected by exercise. My aim is to identify the difference of every volunteer s heart
rate and take down how old they are so I can evaluate whether or not the age of a person make a
difference in their bpm (beats per minute).
Many people know when you exercise for long periods of time; your breathing becomes more shallow
and quick. The main human organ system used when exercising is the respiratory system. There are
two types of respiration your body can carry out, aerobic, with oxygen, and anaerobic, without. The
reason for getting tired from exercise is because when the body runs out of the oxygen it needs,
anaerobic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The exercise I have chosen to do throughout this investigation is skipping (jumping). The reason I
have chosen this specific activity is because I think it will produce more interesting results than a basic
exercise, such as running.
I managed to gather a total of 10 people to help conduct my experiment. Four people for year 9, three
for year 7 and three for sixth form. The reason I have chosen at least three people per age group is
because it is the smallest number of people you can have to find an accurate average. As said, I have
chosen four people for the year 9 age group. This is because the heart rates of the first original three
people varied far more than in the other two groups. I then decided to bring a fourth person so they
could help justify my results and show they are as valid as possible.
There are three variables in my experiment. The amount of time, the pulse rate and the age of the
people. I asked my volunteers to skip for five short but different periods of time. These time periods
varied from 30 seconds to 2 and a half minutes. I asked the people who had volunteered to jump for
the given time, and straight after jumping, count their pulse rate for 20 seconds (which was timed) and
I would then multiply it by three, to give a total of 60 secind/1 minute.
You can see the results fit very well with what was expected to occur. You could see that the heart rate
was increasing the

Allegory In The Grapes Of Wrath
In John Ford s Grapes of Wrath, the audience is introduced to an American allegory of the suffering
people endured during a rough period in history brought on by the greed of the banking industry and
the dust bowl Migration. A man named Tom Joad returns to his homeland after being incarcerated for
the last four years for manslaughter. As a surprise, when Tom arrives home, he finds out that his
family is no longer on their land that they have been on for many years. Tom then finds out that his
family is planning on leaving their once beloved home state to move to the promise land, California.
The movie accurately captures the representation of the good guys versus the bad guys and shows the
cruel conditions that actually existed during this time in history. In further research, John Flinn Sr.

The Great Depression was a time where many sharecropper families faced many problems. Some of
the problems were due to the lack of rain which made it difficult for sharecroppers to stay on the
farmer s land because there was no income coming from the land the families were supposed to be
taking care of. With the lack of crops and money coming in, banks and bigger industries started to buy
the land that sharecroppers lived on for very cheap and lacked compassion while kicking the families
out of their homes. These social injustices continued to happen throughout the movie and at the end of
the film, Tom tells Ma that he is going away to fight against all of the unfair policies. Even though Ma
doesn t understand, he says that she will always be able to find him. He said the way to find him was

We Must Learn from the Holocaust
The holocaust is not only humanities darkest hour, but also one of the most educational experiences
that ever occurred. Failure is not something good, but you should always learn from it. This also
applies to the holocaust. The thing we should have known before the holocaust was that before
punishing someone, think of the choice they did or didn t have in the matter. The Germans failed to do
this when they brutally persecuted the jews. The people caught in the middle didn t realize that the
Germans were wrong in their persecution, and the jews actually forgave the children of the holocaust
because they were raised to only know one thing and didn t know that they had a choice. The Germans
were wrong in their persecution of the jews for many reasons. They didn t think about why they were
persecuting jews, who sometimes were only persecuted because someone in their family was a jew.
The Germans didn t even think about why they were taking land from other countries. People believed
that Hitler would honor his agreement not to take land from France, but He said the same thing about
Poland six months ago (page 43). This quote refrences an argument between Alfons and his mother in
the book Parrallell journeys. Alfons was a young kid who was loyal to hitler while many of his family
memebers were not. Alfons believed Hitler s every word, but his family could see the lies that he said.
Alfons was not the only one to have blind leadership in Htiler. There were many who believed his

Socialization Of Boxing
Since the dawn of time man has always had the urge to up one each other. Dating back 2000 years
before the birth of Christianity man was gathering in public spaces to watch others run, throw and
jump to see who is best. These basic human abilities would evolve into what we as humans see as the
apex of achievement. Romans later created a new sport called boxing which turned savage beatings
into a game. At this time, there was no limits to the fighting and death was common. Fast forward to
today and sports in the United States is at the forefront of entertainment. From Rugby to Wrestling,

Doctors say that this is where kids are most likely to get a concussions that will eventually lead to
CTE. Doctor Dompier posted of JAMA Networking where he said one in 30 football players ages 5 to

like not much one concussion a year can have many side effects of future play. And for every 10,000
games a practices in high school football 11 players a diagnosed with a concussion. Not including
ones gone undocumented (Frontline, 2013). 11 may not seem like a lot but as of a study done in 2014
there are approximately 1,088,158 amatuer football players at the high school level in the United
States. Assuming a regular football season runs from mid June and ends roughly around Thanksgiving
that leaves hundreds of concussions a year that were documented. When is comes to high school
athletics within most public schools in the United States allow everyone to equal opportunity to play.
Leading to an increase in inexperienced players in the sports. This is predominant in football
especially where students use improper form when hitting making extreme contact with the top of the
head. Another factor to the increase chance of CTE in the future for athletes is that lack of not being
able to afford sports doctors or especially in rural areas where the average income may be much lower.

The Effects Of Domestic Violence On Domestic Abuse
Susan Cisneros
English 1301
Lacina Taylor
2 December 2014
Stop The Abuse Underreported and underestimated, domestic abuse rips families apart every single
day. Domestic violence comes in mainly five different forms, physical, sexual, psychological,
emotional, and economic. This violence ruins families, demoralizes the victims, and the public
downplays the household terrorism that goes on every day. Generally thought of as taboo, the public
belittles and humorizes domestic abuse as a way to deal with it, that avoidance must come to an end.
The five forms of domestic violence are economic, emotional, physical, psychological and sexual. The
most commonly known physical violence occurs when a partner or parent inflicts injury such as
hitting, stabbing, and shoving. Physical violence also takes place when food or fluids, medical care
and other sources that maintain health get withheld. The most commonly recognized form of sexual
violence is rape, or non consensual sexual intercourse. Sexual and physical violence oftentimes both
wind up reported by the same victim. Some individuals actively engage in sexually abusive lifestyles,
bondage, dominance, sadism and masochism, or BDSM is a wildly growing underground culture in
America. It focuses on dehumanizing the submissive partner and empowering the dominant one.

lifestyle a veil and treating it like a glamorous relationship to be

others eliminate the membranes by representing them as double sided walls and removing the

Play Summary Of The Play Los Vendidos By Luis Valdez
Los Vendidos was written by Luis Valdez in 1967, the play tells us issues that Mexican Americans
faced throughout history. Los Vendidos translates to The Sold Ones, which interpreters Valdez s
opinion on Mexican s conformity to the American culture. The play defines four different versions of
Mexican men. The farmworker, Johnny Pachuco, The Revolucionario, and the Mexican American.
Luis Valdez addresses through humor the stereotypes and historical struggles that Mexican Americans
faced in 1967. Although the play was written almost half a century ago I believe it s still relevant
today.
We make assumptions about people, we label and categorize the world, putting people into little
groups. In the play Los Vendidos we can see four different types of Mexican stereotypes. ... Show

The secretary asks for a Mexican who is dark, but not too dark and a hard worker. The farmworker is
the right complexion, hardworking, friendly and economical. The farmworker represents hard working
Mexicans who work in American fields and factories, and jobs that require low skills. Honest Sancho
exults that the Farmworker can go with little food, sleep out in the field and returns to Mexico after
the harvest season. Eventually, he is not purchased because he does not speak English. The second
Mexican model is Johnny Pachuco the urban model. He represents the Lazy Thug. Pachuco steals
rather than works, uses drugs and is violent, runs on fast food, and can be beaten and bruised. The
secretary rejects Pachuco. The third Mexican model is the Early California Bandit Type. This Mexican
is most popularly seen in movies, traditional and romantic who rides horses, leads revolutions and
lives out in the mountains. Revolucionario is a rougher version of a Mexican who has a romantic side.

We Are All Familiar With Bible Stories And Fairy Tales
We are all familiar with Bible stories and fairy tales. They typically began as verbal stories, passed
down from generation to generation, before they were put down on paper or made into a film. Stories
which use outlandish situations to, ideally, teach the readers how to live as good people. Stories such
as Cinderella, The Three Little Pigs, Snow White, Jonah and the Whale, Noah s Ark, Hansel and
Gretel, and The Adventures of Pinocchio include situations which could not have possibly happened.
These stories may help lull children to sleep but, at the same time, teach morals in a harsh or even
violent manner. Like fairy tales, the Bible was written to teach stories to impressionable minds.
Unlike fairy tales, Bible stories are still read today, they are not only read by children, but by adults
with or without children. Many Christians today will argue that the Bible stories, such as Jonah and
the Whale, Noah s Ark, Adam and Eve, and such, were not written to take literally. If they are correct
in assuming those stories are not literal encounters, then how would someone venturing through the
bible know what to take literally and what to take as the word of God? If the stories of the Bible were
never meant to be accepted as real events, then can they be considered fairy tales? If all stories in the
bible are, in fact, the word of God and meant to be taken literal, then scientists need to re evaluate
almost everything they know about the world and how it works. It is

Oroonoko, By Aphra Behn
Aphra Behn s work Oroonoko was ahead of its time in its discussion of slavery and colonization.
Oroonoko revealed the negative side of the slave trading industry which was something almost
unheard of in the 17th century when slave trading was a booming business and a part of everyday life.
In the work it can be validated that Behn s reason behind writing this novel in this time period was
that she did not want this man s life to be forgotten or be lost in vain. Furthermore, it is believe that
Behn was taking a stand against slavery using experience, change, and the truth. In America today
slavery has been abolished for over 150 years and yet it is still a very real situation for countries
around the world. When Behn was alive slavery was an everyday occurrence in most countries around
the world in some form. Slavery in the 17th century meant, as it does today, that a person had no
control over his destiny, no choice of occupation or employer, no rights to property or marriage, and
no control over the fate of his children. (Mier and Kopytoff 3). Many higher class Europeans viewed
slaves as goods and not real people ignoring the fact and treating them as animals to do their bidding.
Some people treated their slaves better then others, however the fact that they were still slaves
remained. Slavery was a so common it was not unordinary for the people of Europe, and later on
America, to have them as a commodity while importing and exporting them. Freeing the slaves was

Uncivilized In Things Fall Apart
To have a civilized society is when that society has a highly developed culture. Things that makes a
society civilized is having basic freedoms, authority etc. An uncivilized society is opposite of that
which the igbo society mostly shows. Having an uncivilized society means that the culture does not
have a social order that is characterized by a government, a system of justice, a social structure, and
some kind of spiritual belief system. The Igbo society of the story Things Fall Apart is uncivilized,
this is because men beat their wives, the Oracle finalizes decisions, and the different ways of

In the story it states, ... every man whose arm was strong, as the Ibo people say, was expected to invite
large numbers of guests from far and wide (Achebe, N.D.,pg. 37). The amount of yams in a household

authority. Just because one man has a couple more yams than the other should not be the only reason
to why that man should be given more respect or is more powerful and stronger than the other, but in
this society that is what the Igbo people believe is right which it should not be. Each man s title should
be determined on their personality not about what they own. Therefore, that is the last reason to why

Comparison Of The Great Gatsby And Moulin Rouge
Similarly to The Great Gatsby , Luhrmann s Moulin Rouge takes on the same effect of displaying
anachronism by working with Monsted to create a soundtrack with a modern twist. However, the
soundtrack of Moulin Rouge has a much different timbre as it s a jukebox musical and the songs itself
are used in replacement of dialogue at various points of the film. With the vocals of the lead characters
of the film, played by Ewan McGregor, Nicole Kidman and more, this film also recreates different
original singles with different genres, timbre and tempos to make the songs relate more to the literal
environment of the film and the audience at the time it was released. One important example would be
Kidman s rendition of Marilyn Monroe s classic song, Diamonds Are a Girl s Best Friend . The
significant aspect of Kidman s take on this song was that her character, Satine, performed it by
recreating the original into a medley with Madonna s mimicry performance of this song, Material Girl
. Satine begins her introducing performance, with her sultry and provocative vocals in a accapella
version of Monroe s first few lines of the song giving a more raw and less theatrical take on the song.
Satine s whole performance in general, is much less theatrical than it s origin as it neglects the classic
and smooth orchestral version, for a more jazzy and burlesque vibe that perfectly corresponds to her
seductive performance. Which is then followed by a series of improvisations such as

The Stamp Act and the Tea Act
Screaming occurred as a group of men argued while deciding to form into a group to go against things
they knew they had the rights too and to shape their powers. They were frustrated because they knew
that American s had more rights and that more could have been done. Starting from the Loyal Nine s
and wealthy families, the Sons of Liberty achieved many things , their ideas were best expressed
through the rights they determined Americans had, what roles they each played in saving those rights
and how important they thought those rights were. They got together and formed in 1765, in Boston
right after the stamp act and that s originally where they got their name. They had another name that
they were also known as called the loyalist. They had quite an amount of members and they all were
helpful in some way. The men s who leaded this party were John Adams, Samuel Adams, and Paul
Revere. Altogether those that formed the Sons of Liberty were helpful because they helped get the
group out there. The Sons of liberty had publishers, writers and they had a very good start to be out
there and become known. They did keep their little organization alittle secret, just because they didn t
want anyone to find out, along the secret meetings they had, they had secret things they said to each
other. Conducted into codes so no one can know what they were saying, it was a smart way of sharing
things to not actually reveal their stuff and ruin their plans.

Write An Essay On Bioethanol From Ethanol To Brazil
Ethanol, also called ethyl alcohol or drinking alcohol, is an organic compound belonging to the
alcohol group. It could also be abbreviated EtOH. The hydroxyl, OH, functional group differentiates
the compound from the other organic compounds and hence shares some of the same physical and
chemical properties, with other alcohols. Ethanol is used as fuel, solvents and in alcoholic beverages.
It is also used as antiseptics, household cleaning products, varnishes and in alcohol thermometers
(Garcia). The molecular formula of ethanol is C2H6O, normally written as C2H5OH or CH3CH2OH.
The molar mass, boiling point and melting point of ethanol is 46.069g/mol, 78.29ºC and 114.14ºC,
respectively (Ethanol). Ethanol is a colorless liquid with a slight odor, soluble in water, flammable,
volatile and evaporates easily when left in the open (Garcia). Brazil is the largest country in the

Bioethanol is made from renewable resources hence, it is infinite. It is greener and better for the
environment by producing fewer greenhouse gases. More planting of sugarcane meant more uptake of
CO2 and release of O2. Ethanol also produces six less molecules of carbon dioxide when combusted
versus gasoline, seen in the following equations. C2H5OH + 3 O2  2 CO2 + 3 H2O (ethanol
combustion) versus C8H18 + 12.5 O2  8 CO2 + 9 H2O (gasoline combustion). Finally, a lot of

Metallic Copper Lab
Introduction:
Metallic copper and its compounds have played an important role in history, from ancient civilizations
to today s economy. It also has biological and environmental significance. In this experiment, we
explored copper in its metallic and ionic forms and examined the reactions which form metallic
copper and copper compounds as well as calculated percentage yield of final metallic copper product.
Materials and Methods:
In this experiment, 5 different chemical reactions took place before the final percentage yield of
metallic copper was calculated. For the first reaction, a fume hood made up of a funnel and some
rubber tubing attached to a tap was set up above a 50 ml beaker. Next, 0.2574 g of copper turnings
were measured out and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The solution went from being black and cloudy to green and transparent, indicating that there is no
longer a precipitate in the solution.
In the fifth chemical reaction copper sulfate reacted with zinc resulting in this equation:
CuSO₄(aq) + Zn(s) → Cu(s) + ZnSO₄(aq)
This is a single displacement, redox reaction as zinc replaces the copper cation in copper sulfate
resulting in metallic copper solid and zinc sulfate. This is evident from the observations as initially a
black solid formed in the solution but as the hydrochloric acid was added and it reacted away the
excess zinc a reddish brown solid formed, which is copper, indicating that zinc displaced the copper
cation. It is a redox reaction as copper is reduced as its oxidation number decreases from +2 to 0 and
zinc is oxidized as its oxidation number increases from 0 to

Karl Marx And Communism
In any society, there have always been exclusive classes of people who make decisions on behalf of an
entire population. However, historically speaking, it has been evident that these choices were only
made to protect the economic and moral interests of the wealthy and elite, proving itself disastrous for
the common people. Even today, there is a certain awareness that allows us to talk about the massive
amounts of inequity and inequality that particular groups face in our country due to the strains of a
flawed economic, social and political system. Subsequently, American citizens can agree that our
current system needs improvement, however, they usually fail to acknowledge capitalism s most
notorious critic: Karl Marx.

Analysis Of Demagoguery And Fallacies Essay

Demagoguery and Fallacies In all speeches, we used different types of demagoguery to make our
statements more appealing to our audience. Patricia Roberts Miller studied the principles of
demagoguery and how they appeal to the public to make appropriate decisions. Patricia Roberts also
state that the most that information, the less likely the public will make appropriate decisions , with
this information we can conclude how they can be used to appeal to the people. in different topics we
use different demagoguery or fallacies to divide people into two different groups; the ingroup and
outgroup. The ingroup is viewed as the good and correct group while the outgroup is viewed as wrong
and bad. Demagoguery occurs mostly in times of political and economic crisis. In the speech of
George Wallace on the topic of segregation and Donald Trump s speech on the topic of immigration
are perfect examples of the use of demagoguery. I will analyse the use of demagoguery and fallacies;
such as grandstanding, demonising, nationalism, and hasty generalization, throughout their speeches
to see how they appeal to the audience, I believe that the strategies use will show how the argument is
inaccurate or how it relies on fear . In George Wallace in his speech as the Governor of Alabama was
written by Asa Carter, a Ku Klux Klan leader during the height of the civil right movement. Wallace

The Outsider What Does It Mean To Be Different
What does the word different mean? In a world full of trends and copycats, what does it really mean to
be different? Alternatively, what do we really consider as normal ? Are you considered normal? Or
you? Or maybe you? And after a few rounds of this finger pointing game, we realise that we will
never know what normal is. So in this case normal is merely a figment of societal perceptions and
restrains.
But in all seriousness, why is this idea of being different always taken as a negative classification. In
our modern society, being different and striving away from conformity can often present challenges

The Growth Of Marine Diatom
Abstract
The growth of marine diatom, Chaetoceros muelleri, used as live feed in aquaculture, was optimized
using response surface methodology (RSM). The variables initially screened for biomass production
using Plackett Burman experimental design were nitrate, phosphate, silicate, temperature, pH, salinity
and agitation speed. The screening revealed that nitrate, phosphate, silicate, temperature and pH
significantly influenced the biomass production of C. muelleri. These five variables were further
optimized by central composite design (CCD) of RSM for biomass production and the medium was
constituted accordingly to have nitrate 180 mg l 1, phosphate 7.5 mg l 1, silicate 30 mg l 1, and
temperature of incubation 31oC and pH 6.46. At the end of 10 day culture period under the above
conditions biomass, protein, lipid and carbohydrate were found significantly increased from 360 ±0.01

Immigration As An Ethical Issue
IMMIGRATION AS AN ETHICAL ISSUE
2
Immigration as an ethical dilemma has attracted decades of debate. It is an ethical issue that has not
found a solution, and it does not appear that it will find one soon. Immigration debates may look
interesting but the two antagonistic groups: those who support immigrant and those who oppose them
seem to score equally with no solution (Kourtsounis, 2014). The groups that oppose immigration have
strongly accused the government for allowing its borders to remain porous to illegal guests. These
groups have strongly indicated that, both legal and illegal immigrants are a threat to American
citizens. On the other hand, even though there is no one who is advocating for immigration directly,
the groups that support immigration urge the Federal and local governments to develop policies that
will legalize refugees who are already seeking
American residents. These groups dwell on the fact that immigrants are also human beings and that
they are possibly looking to the Unites States in search for a safe haven. They also emphasize that
Americans have a sense of obligation through their humanitarian philosophy, and so they cannot
afford to lock them out, nor can they afford to send back illegal children who are looking for safer
place to live. Debaters in this ethical dilemma both have genuine reasons why they support or oppose
immigration.
At the heart of immigration debate are the groups that oppose legal and illegal migration
(Kourtsounis, 2014).

Reagan And Goneril In King Lear By William Shakespeare
It is popularly repeated that we do not appreciate the things or people that form a part of our life until
we squander them. William Shakespeare depicts a flawless illustration of this throughout his play,
King Lear. Not only does he display how much it can impact a person, but he also exhibits that we
must learn to preserve before we lose what we have. King Lear, the protagonist of the play carrying
the same name, opens the scene asking for words of love coming from his daughters in order to divide
his kingdom among the three. Both his eldest and middle daughters, Reagan and Goneril, proceed to

When he realizes that he was erroneous by disowning his youngest daughter, he falls into a cycle of
thoughts that only bring him regret. As events begin to unravel in his life and he sees that Regan and
Goneril are harsh and unappreciative, he finds out that the one who truly loved him and the one who
would have been willing to pick him back up when he needed her help was truly Cordelia. Moreover,
The Fool, Lear s protector, tells him about the huge mistake he made and attempts to advise him
during this period of time. Once he falls into the realization of what he has done, Lear is deeply
embarrassed to show his face to Cordelia because he cannot bear to look at her straight in the face and
concede by accepting that he was wrong for disowning her. Thus, all of the problems that have piled
up onto Lear s life allow him to realize that his values and qualities were not set straight, and the
remorse then haunted him allowed him to clarify his mind about the consequences of the measures he
had taken. The play, when analyzed, permits the readers to take a lesson from the story of the king and
his three daughters. Additionally, by emphasizing the aftermath of his reactions to the incidents in his
life, the reader can observe that following the steps of Lear would only lead to self destruction and
massive anguish within his or her mind. The tragedy is no more than a lesson that we must reevaluate
what we possess and control our emotions before proceeding to make a decision on something that
may permanently harm us or hurt us

Weber Vs Durkheim
When an individual goes against the norms of the collective conscience they are punished (The
Division of labor in society 79 80). The government represents society and is the collective conscious
in one force. When people break the rules the collective conscious reaffirms their norms and adjusts
them if society feels necessary. For example, if someone commits a crime citizens get upset because it
goes against the collective norms. Durkheim promoted cult of personality in his society. The cult of
personality is when individuals respect diversity whether it is religious, class, race, gender, or ability.
He encourages people to recognize that we all come from different backgrounds and have different
ideas of norms based on our society. Durkheim ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Weber believed that capitalism stemmed from the religious ideas of Protestant, Lutheran and
Calvinist. In the protestant church if you are wealthy god blessed you with wealth and you are going
to heaven and if you are poor god did not bless you and you are probably going to hell. In
Lutheranism ones has a calling. You have a mission in life that God wants you to complete. In
Calvinist you can understand your mission in life by how much wealth you have. So if you are making
a lot of money you are completing your calling and God is rewarding you. Weber thinks everything is
being secularized so just take god out of the equations and you have Capitalism. He thinks the best we
can do is Capitalism, and while not an ardent supporter, also acknowledges that anything else would
be worse. Weber does not believe that society has any laws. There is one trend in society and it is
towards rationalization (every greater things getting done for the benefit of productivity). Weber
ardors the idea of society being bureaucratized, working together for the best strategy. However, he
also acknowledges that socialism may be more efficient, but it impedes one s creativity and mind.
Therefore, Bureaucracy is the means of carrying community action over into rationally ordered
societal action (Economy and Society, pgs. 229 30). By having a bureaucratic society means

Formerly known as the European Champions Clubs Cup (European Cup) the UCL was the result of a
measured overhaul of European football, in response to advances in technology, namely satellite
television. The challenge the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) faced was how best to
oversee this transitional phase whilst maintaining the crucial brand equity attached to the European

The report will discuss the affiliation between UEFA and marketing specialists Television Event and

for clubs who would bring in large sums of revenue to be eliminated after merely two games. In 1992,

Today, high levels of people populate public settings causing many requirements and demands to

restaurant layout, it is important to consider how much privacy will the visitors have. One of the
biggest dilemmas in restaurant design is the need for tables and seating space which maximizes the

people don t like very crowded spaces, they don like very big ones either for they seem cold and

  • 2. Waimanalo Research Paper The key geological features played a significant role in creating Waimanalo. Waimanalo was formed by a catastrophic landslide from the Nuuanu Pali all the way down to the coast and to the ending of Makapu`u. Under the water lay debris and material from this landslide. In the 1960 s, the US Navy first found out about this information by a single beam sonar surveying a utilized improved radio navigation system. In the 1980 s, a multibeam side scan sonar, GLORIA, imaged in unprecedented detail known landslides, and also discovered new ones. Then finally, came the JAMESTEC multibeam profiler which surveys and utilized GPS navigation, produced detailed maps of the entire landslide for the first time. Hawaii had a system like no other monarchy ever had. As it is said in the books that this is one of the most devastating overthrows of any monarchy in the world. The United States had recognized Hawaii s presence long before they wanted to overthrow the monarchy s . America had seen how Hawaiians take care of their land. The overthrow was led by American sugar planters under Sanford Ballard Dole. The plan was to overthrow Queen Liliuokalani, the Hawaiian monarchy, and establish a new provincial government. When the coup happened, it was not only led with a U.S. minister to Hawaii (John L. Stevens), but also 300 U.S. Marines. The marines were allegedly here to protect American ... • 3. Experiment to Determine How Heart Rate is Affected by... Throughout this investigation, I will be conducting a number of experiments to help solve whether or not heart rate is affected by exercise. My aim is to identify the difference of every volunteer s heart rate and take down how old they are so I can evaluate whether or not the age of a person make a difference in their bpm (beats per minute). Many people know when you exercise for long periods of time; your breathing becomes more shallow and quick. The main human organ system used when exercising is the respiratory system. There are two types of respiration your body can carry out, aerobic, with oxygen, and anaerobic, without. The reason for getting tired from exercise is because when the body runs out of the oxygen it needs, anaerobic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The exercise I have chosen to do throughout this investigation is skipping (jumping). The reason I have chosen this specific activity is because I think it will produce more interesting results than a basic exercise, such as running. I managed to gather a total of 10 people to help conduct my experiment. Four people for year 9, three for year 7 and three for sixth form. The reason I have chosen at least three people per age group is because it is the smallest number of people you can have to find an accurate average. As said, I have chosen four people for the year 9 age group. This is because the heart rates of the first original three people varied far more than in the other two groups. I then decided to bring a fourth person so they could help justify my results and show they are as valid as possible. There are three variables in my experiment. The amount of time, the pulse rate and the age of the people. I asked my volunteers to skip for five short but different periods of time. These time periods varied from 30 seconds to 2 and a half minutes. I asked the people who had volunteered to jump for the given time, and straight after jumping, count their pulse rate for 20 seconds (which was timed) and I would then multiply it by three, to give a total of 60 secind/1 minute. You can see the results fit very well with what was expected to occur. You could see that the heart rate was increasing the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Allegory In The Grapes Of Wrath In John Ford s Grapes of Wrath, the audience is introduced to an American allegory of the suffering people endured during a rough period in history brought on by the greed of the banking industry and the dust bowl Migration. A man named Tom Joad returns to his homeland after being incarcerated for the last four years for manslaughter. As a surprise, when Tom arrives home, he finds out that his family is no longer on their land that they have been on for many years. Tom then finds out that his family is planning on leaving their once beloved home state to move to the promise land, California. The movie accurately captures the representation of the good guys versus the bad guys and shows the cruel conditions that actually existed during this time in history. The Great Depression was a time where many sharecropper families faced many problems. Some of the problems were due to the lack of rain which made it difficult for sharecroppers to stay on the farmer s land because there was no income coming from the land the families were supposed to be taking care of. With the lack of crops and money coming in, banks and bigger industries started to buy the land that sharecroppers lived on for very cheap and lacked compassion while kicking the families out of their homes. These social injustices continued to happen throughout the movie and at the end of the film, Tom tells Ma that he is going away to fight against all of the unfair policies. Even though Ma doesn t understand, he says that she will always be able to find him. • 6. We Must Learn from the Holocaust The holocaust is not only humanities darkest hour, but also one of the most educational experiences that ever occurred. Failure is not something good, but you should always learn from it. This also applies to the holocaust. The thing we should have known before the holocaust was that before punishing someone, think of the choice they did or didn t have in the matter. The Germans failed to do this when they brutally persecuted the jews. The people caught in the middle didn t realize that the Germans were wrong in their persecution, and the jews actually forgave the children of the holocaust because they were raised to only know one thing and didn t know that they had a choice. The Germans were wrong in their persecution of the jews for many reasons. They didn t think about why they were persecuting jews, who sometimes were only persecuted because someone in their family was a jew. The Germans didn t even think about why they were taking land from other countries. People believed that Hitler would honor his agreement not to take land from France, but He said the same thing about Poland six months ago (page 43). This quote refrences an argument between Alfons and his mother in the book Parrallell journeys. Alfons was a young kid who was loyal to hitler while many of his family memebers were not. Alfons believed Hitler s every word, but his family could see the lies that he said. Alfons was not the only one to have blind leadership in Htiler. There were many who believed his ... • 8. The Effects Of Domestic Violence On Domestic Abuse Susan Cisneros English 1301 Lacina Taylor 2 December 2014 Stop The Abuse Underreported and underestimated, domestic abuse rips families apart every single day. Domestic violence comes in mainly five different forms, physical, sexual, psychological, emotional, and economic. This violence ruins families, demoralizes the victims, and the public downplays the household terrorism that goes on every day. Generally thought of as taboo, the public belittles and humorizes domestic abuse as a way to deal with it, that avoidance must come to an end. The five forms of domestic violence are economic, emotional, physical, psychological and sexual. The most commonly known physical violence occurs when a partner or parent inflicts injury such as hitting, stabbing, and shoving. Physical violence also takes place when food or fluids, medical care and other sources that maintain health get withheld. The most commonly recognized form of sexual violence is rape, or non consensual sexual intercourse. Sexual and physical violence oftentimes both wind up reported by the same victim. • 11. We Are All Familiar With Bible Stories And Fairy Tales We are all familiar with Bible stories and fairy tales. They typically began as verbal stories, passed down from generation to generation, before they were put down on paper or made into a film. Stories which use outlandish situations to, ideally, teach the readers how to live as good people. Stories such as Cinderella, The Three Little Pigs, Snow White, Jonah and the Whale, Noah s Ark, Hansel and Gretel, and The Adventures of Pinocchio include situations which could not have possibly happened. These stories may help lull children to sleep but, at the same time, teach morals in a harsh or even violent manner. Like fairy tales, the Bible was written to teach stories to impressionable minds. Unlike fairy tales, Bible stories are still read today, they are not only read by children, but by adults with or without children. Many Christians today will argue that the Bible stories, such as Jonah and the Whale, Noah s Ark, Adam and Eve, and such, were not written to take literally. If they are correct in assuming those stories are not literal encounters, then how would someone venturing through the bible know what to take literally and what to take as the word of God? If the stories of the Bible were never meant to be accepted as real events, then can they be considered fairy tales? If all stories in the bible are, in fact, the word of God and meant to be taken literal, then scientists need to re evaluate almost everything they know about the world and how it works. It is ... Oroonoko revealed the negative side of the slave trading industry which was something almost unheard of in the 17th century when slave trading was a booming business and a part of everyday life. In the work it can be validated that Behn s reason behind writing this novel in this time period was that she did not want this man s life to be forgotten or be lost in vain. Furthermore, it is believe that Behn was taking a stand against slavery using experience, change, and the truth. In America today slavery has been abolished for over 150 years and yet it is still a very real situation for countries around the world. When Behn was alive slavery was an everyday occurrence in most countries around the world in some form. Slavery in the 17th century meant, as it does today, that a person had no control over his destiny, no choice of occupation or employer, no rights to property or marriage, and no control over the fate of his children. (Mier and Kopytoff 3). Many higher class Europeans viewed slaves as goods and not real people ignoring the fact and treating them as animals to do their bidding. Some people treated their slaves better then others, however the fact that they were still slaves remained. However, the soundtrack of Moulin Rouge has a much different timbre as it s a jukebox musical and the songs itself are used in replacement of dialogue at various points of the film. With the vocals of the lead characters of the film, played by Ewan McGregor, Nicole Kidman and more, this film also recreates different original singles with different genres, timbre and tempos to make the songs relate more to the literal environment of the film and the audience at the time it was released. One important example would be Kidman s rendition of Marilyn Monroe s classic song, Diamonds Are a Girl s Best Friend . The significant aspect of Kidman s take on this song was that her character, Satine, performed it by recreating the original into a medley with Madonna s mimicry performance of this song, Material Girl . Satine begins her introducing performance, with her sultry and provocative vocals in a accapella version of Monroe s first few lines of the song giving a more raw and less theatrical take on the song. Satine s whole performance in general, is much less theatrical than it s origin as it neglects the classic and smooth orchestral version, for a more jazzy and burlesque vibe that perfectly corresponds to her seductive performance. Patricia Roberts Miller studied the principles of demagoguery and how they appeal to the public to make appropriate decisions. Patricia Roberts also state that the most that information, the less likely the public will make appropriate decisions , with this information we can conclude how they can be used to appeal to the people. in different topics we use different demagoguery or fallacies to divide people into two different groups; the ingroup and outgroup. • 27. The Outsider What Does It Mean To Be Different What does the word different mean? In a world full of trends and copycats, what does it really mean to be different? Alternatively, what do we really consider as normal ? Are you considered normal? Or you? Or maybe you? And after a few rounds of this finger pointing game, we realise that we will never know what normal is. So in this case normal is merely a figment of societal perceptions and restrains. But in all seriousness, why is this idea of being different always taken as a negative classification. In our modern society, being different and striving away from conformity can often present challenges such as: isolation, horrid accusations, or even pessimism. Regardless of the community, we learn that these consequences can be damaging, an idea which is powerfully explored through the novel, The Outsider by Albert Camus. ... The variables initially screened for biomass production using Plackett Burman experimental design were nitrate, phosphate, silicate, temperature, pH, salinity and agitation speed. The screening revealed that nitrate, phosphate, silicate, temperature and pH significantly influenced the biomass production of C. muelleri. These five variables were further optimized by central composite design (CCD) of RSM for biomass production and the medium was constituted accordingly to have nitrate 180 mg l 1, phosphate 7.5 mg l 1, silicate 30 mg l 1, and temperature of incubation 31oC and pH 6.46. • 32. Immigration As An Ethical Issue IMMIGRATION AS AN ETHICAL ISSUE 2 Immigration as an ethical dilemma has attracted decades of debate. It is an ethical issue that has not found a solution, and it does not appear that it will find one soon. Immigration debates may look interesting but the two antagonistic groups: those who support immigrant and those who oppose them seem to score equally with no solution (Kourtsounis, 2014). The groups that oppose immigration have strongly accused the government for allowing its borders to remain porous to illegal guests. These groups have strongly indicated that, both legal and illegal immigrants are a threat to American citizens. On the other hand, even though there is no one who is advocating for immigration directly, the groups that support immigration urge the Federal and local governments to develop policies that will legalize refugees who are already seeking American residents. These groups dwell on the fact that immigrants are also human beings and that they are possibly looking to the Unites States in search for a safe haven. They also emphasize that Americans have a sense of obligation through their humanitarian philosophy, and so they cannot afford to lock them out, nor can they afford to send back illegal children who are looking for safer place to live. Debaters in this ethical dilemma both have genuine reasons why they support or oppose immigration. At the heart of immigration debate are the groups that oppose legal and illegal migration (Kourtsounis, 2014). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

William Shakespeare depicts a flawless illustration of this throughout his play, King Lear. Not only does he display how much it can impact a person, but he also exhibits that we must learn to preserve before we lose what we have. King Lear, the protagonist of the play carrying the same name, opens the scene asking for words of love coming from his daughters in order to divide his kingdom among the three. As events begin to unravel in his life and he sees that Regan and Goneril are harsh and unappreciative, he finds out that the one who truly loved him and the one who would have been willing to pick him back up when he needed her help was truly Cordelia. Moreover, The Fool, Lear s protector, tells him about the huge mistake he made and attempts to advise him during this period of time. Once he falls into the realization of what he has done, Lear is deeply embarrassed to show his face to Cordelia because he cannot bear to look at her straight in the face and concede by accepting that he was wrong for disowning her. Thus, all of the problems that have piled up onto Lear s life allow him to realize that his values and qualities were not set straight, and the remorse then haunted him allowed him to clarify his mind about the consequences of the measures he had taken. The play, when analyzed, permits the readers to take a lesson from the story of the king and his three daughters. Additionally, by emphasizing the aftermath of his reactions to the incidents in his life, the reader can observe that following the steps of Lear would only lead to self destruction and massive anguish within his or her mind.
