sequential gearboxes Essay
Running Head: SEQUENTIAL GEARBOXES
Abstract
This paper will discuss the technology of sequential gearboxes. Relatively new technology, the
sequential gearbox has been applied mostly in ATV s, motorcycles, and the automobile racing
industry. Recently this technology has begun to reach passenger cars. There are three main points of
discussion; the workings of a manual transmission, how a sequential gearbox works and the
advantages of them, and the applications of it today. The sequential gearbox is extremely
revolutionary and is only used in high end passenger cars, but maybe one day it will be a luxury the
majority of the population will be able to experience.

How Sequential Gearboxes Work
In a regular manual transmission there are three forks controlled by three rods that are engaged by the
shift lever by the driver. The normal H pattern that the driver sees on top of the shifter enables him or
her to move the shift lever between the control rods for the three forks and thus moving the rods back
and forth. When all of these aspects are combined a successful shift is accomplished.
Transmissions on ATV s or motorcycles using sequential gearboxes have a set of gear selection forks
that move collars, which engage the gears just like on regular manual transmissions. The gearshift
lever is moved up and down by the foot and the transmission is moved from gear to gear. When the
gearshift lever is moved by the foot, a ratcheting drum is rotated. This ratcheting drum has grooves cut
into the side of it. The grooves on the ratcheting drum will direct the control rods when the drum is
away from the transmission s gears. Moving the gear selector fork is the most common use of the
grooves. With this in mind, whenever the lever is moved up or down, the drum is rotated one
increment. The rotation of the drum allows for movement of the rods or forks as set by the grooves in
the drum and the gears are then changed (Brain, n.d.). The gear shifting sequence can only be done in
order; this means that no gears can be

The Life Of Prophet Muhammad
Amine Lehachi
Islamic History 1100
Mrs. Jorati
September 20th, 2015 The Life of Prophet Muhammad
The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH Peace be upon him) is the messenger of God in Islam. He was born
in the city of Makkah (Mecca) in the Arabian Peninsula around 570 CE. Many historians believe he
became an orphan at a very early age. The Arabian Peninsula at the time had no law or order; people
were described as savages for their ill customs and traditions. People of Arabia worshipped idols and
ancient Arabian religions; some were also Christian and Jewish. When it came to religion people were
divided in the region, people were divided into tribes and had different sets of beliefs. Prophet
Muhammad set to change this, he wanted to unify the region and establish an independent nation.
Before he started his Prophecy he married an older woman, a widow named Khadijah, for whom he
had worked for in the caravan trade. When he was a merchant, he was known as al Amin, the trusted
one. When Prophet Muhammad was forty years old, he had a profound experience that really changed
his life. In this essay I will evaluate the significant events of his career starting with The First
revelation; The migration to Medina and lastly the great Battle of Badr. These significant events play
an important role on how the foundation of a newly reformed monotheistic religion called Islam came
to be.
A significant event that really changed the course of his life was when Prophet Muhammad was 40
years old.

Examples Of Evil In Young Goodman Brown
Young Goodman Brown: Good versus Evil
Throughout Young Goodman Brown and other works of Nathaniel Hawthorne, the themes of sin and
guilt constantly reoccur. Like many authors, Hawthorne used events in his life as a basis for the stories
that he wrote. Hawthorne felt that ones guilt does not die with him/her but is rather passed down
through the generations. Hawthorne s great great uncle was one of the judges during the Salem
witchcraft trials. Hawthorne felt a great sense of guilt because of this. Hawthorne used a great deal of
symbolism to depict what would come to be known as the subconscious. In this allegory he used
symbolism to speak of a dreamlike process. Hawthorne used the characters and the events of the story
to create a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This unexpectedly causes Young Goodman Brown to distrust things due to his unexpected decision of
occurrence a having gone through either a dream or reality. In Young Goodman Brown, a figurative
allegory is taking place. This traditional allegory is different from most others in that it derives from
the symbolism of the plot, the setting, and the characters. The sub meaning of this story has social,
political, and religious connotations. The characters in this story were often personifications of
theoretical emotions such as faith, greed, and evil. The characters names such as Goodman, Faith, and
Gookin are symbolic of religion and are at opposing ends of evil in the story.
On the day of their wedding, Faith, Goodman Brown s wife was wearing pink ribbons in her hair. This
was very symbolic of her being childlike and young. Also, everything that has to do with her is about
her doubting herself and her relationship with Young Goodman Brown. It was important for
Hawthorne to show the youth in these two characters. This was another religious reference. In the
bible it states Who ever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not receive it at all.
(Hawthorne, 635) This means that it is important to be like a child and be content without knowing
everything else that is out there. It also means that if one is on a quest for knowledge then he/she does
not leave room for someone else to be

Temperature Of Alka Seltzer
Alka Seltzer being affected by different temperatures in different cups
Research Question How does the temperature affect the speed in which an Alka Seltzer tablet fully
dissolves in three cups filled with water with different temperatures.
Background Information A chemical reaction is a process that involves change of the molecular or
ionic structure of a substance, as opposed to a change in physical form or a nuclear reaction. The key
concepts of a chemical reaction are:
The atoms and molecules that interact with each other are called reactants
The molecules and atoms produced in a chemical reaction are called products
No atoms are destroyed or created they only end up in other products
Reactants collide with each other so new bonds between atoms in the reactants are broken, and atoms
rearrange and form new bonds to make new products ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A larger concentration of products is usually linked to a lower reaction rate.
Usually an increase in temperature in a chemical reaction means that there will be an increase in the
reaction rate of the reactants. Temperature is a measure of the kinetic energy of a system. If
temperature is the measure of the kinetic energy of a system, higher temperature implies a higher
average kinetic energy of molecules and more collisions per time. This would happen because when
the temperature is increased and the reactants will start moving faster and will collide more than
before with other reactants and will start forming products.
This image explains that the higher the temperature, the concentration, and the pressure the faster the
rate of the reaction is.

Theme Of Voice And Silence In The God Of Small Things
The God of Small things is the polyphonic novel, where characters are demarcated on the basis of
their certain elements of language, which enhance their importance and employ meaningful existence
in the story. Readers and critics elicit meanings through gestures, actions, voices and silences of the
characters. Language acts as a synecdoche, thus voice, its intonation and accents has also significance
in creation of characters. Voice and silence work paradoxically as metonymy. Both are mandatory in
the world of literature, themes of plays, novels and poetry become significant with these two devices
of language; where voice leaves its words, silence shows meaning. It may sound illogical to discuss
voice and silence within the written text, which is mute form of language and contrary to ... Show

The Negative Effects Of Nuclear Bombs
Nuclear bombs can bring a genocide to countries and people within less than a minute. Nuclear
bombs, an enormous war bomb, can kill thousands of people and start and end wars. World War 2
bomb Little Boy measured 9.8 feet tip to tail and let off a chain reaction explosion that killed more
than 80,000 people. Nuclear bombs are made out of uranium which is one of the most potent materials
for bombs. If a bomb such as Little Boy were to be dropped on Los Angeles, California it would kill
100,330 people and leave 154,240 injured (Wellerstein).
Nuclear bomb, Little Boy was dropped on Hiroshima, Japan on August 6, 1945 ending World War 2.

This bomb was developed and tested by The Manhattan Project. When uranium cracks it breaks up
into a group of nuclear fragments and releases energy. It will then set off a chain reaction creating a
destructive explosion. The original A Bomb gained its power by the splitting of all the atomic nuclei in
several different places of plutonium( Nuclear Weapons ).
The outside of nuclear bombs have lenses, which are highly explosive materials. Lenses are designed
to concentrate the blast towards the center of the bomb. The most important part of the nuclear bomb
is the core, which consists of cracking material which is compacted with pressure. This powerful
pressure technique is called implosion. Little Boy and A bomb were both catastrophic bombs.

Pros And Cons Of Chainsaw
OREGON CS1500 Self Sharpening Electric Chain Saw: Product Review
First rule of running a chainsaw: Never, ever work with a dull chain!
One of the most difficult parts in owning a chainsaw is the upkeep that the equipment needs.
Sharpening your unit is a seemingly tedious task that several people would rather leave to
professionals instead of doing it on their own. Nevertheless, this practice may be quite expensive,
especially if you need to sharpen several chains. Eventually, you will be torn between spending your
money on a professional or putting in more effort to do the sharpening on your own.
You may think that there is no compromise for this dilemma... However, Oregon has created a
technology that enables the chainsaw to be sharpened ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, this could be caused by human error, since these reports appear to be an isolated issue. As it
is a corded electric chainsaw, your work area is limited to places situated within the reach of an
extension cord that should also have an access to an electrical outlet. The extension cord also needs to
be securely locked to avoid being detached from the outlet while you work.
Pros
This unit comes with a patented technology called PowerSharp Chainsaw Sharpening System that
allows for tool free chainsaw sharpening within three seconds
It has an over mold handle that causes the chainsaw to produce less vibrations and allows the user to
run the equipment comfortably and conveniently
The Oregon CS1500 is engineered with an automated chain braking system that is designed for the
added safety for the users
It is easy to maintain and eliminates the cost of professional chainsaw sharpening
Cons
There are a few users who have commented that the chain falls off easily
Since it is a corded electric chainsaw, the working space that you can work with is limited to the
radius of the extension cord
You must avoid heavy duty cutting with any electric chainsaw, however, this unit can cut through
thicker pieces of wood (with a diameter of 16 inches) compared to other electrically powered

Competitive Advantage Of Amazon
Amazon throughout the years has expanded their facilities throughout the U.S and growing at a rapid
pace in rest of the world in the past five years. Amazon was able to develop business in the Midwest
as well as in the Southern State. One of their main focus is to build many headquarters and facilities
around the world mostly near large populated cities because it can be easier and quicker to distribute
them. Based on Amazon s Fulfillment Center Network it is mentioned that the largest amazon s
fulfillment center is located in 6835 West Buckeye Road, Phoenix, Arizona. The size of the facility is
1,009,400 square feet 2. Some of the large cities that is located near the facility are Mesa, Tucson,
Chandler, Glendale, and Scottsdale. One of the main reason why Amazon plan to build more facilities
in Arizona is the fact that it is a highly competitive corporate headquarters for many business and is in
the top five largest cities in the United State. Moreover, in the past years technology has penetrated
industries and without no doubt in couple year s automation would be replacing humans as it is seen
as a competitive advantage. Even though, automation is setting the standards for many businesses and
a highly competitive factor in today s industries, there are many advantages of automation taking over
the workforce as well as disadvantages. It is used to complete a task faster, cheaper, and with a greater

Lord Of The Flies Civilization Analysis
Within any civilization, there are multiple key components required in order to create a functioning
society. As explained through Lord of the Flies by William Golding, these pivotal building blocks of a
civilization can play a great part into bringing a group of people to society, or drag them all down into
savagery. The conch shell is an excellent example of political legitimacy and democratic power.
Although, while this device can be used for good; providing others with order and sanity, it can also
be used for the utter destruction of a civilization. The conch shell in Lord of the Flies by William
Golding begins as civilization and order, becomes the fragility of power and influence, and concludes
with the collapse of any civilized thoughts. Civilization and order can be found within every society,
and this is no exception within the group of boys in the beginning of the novel. Throughout the
exposition of the story, governance over the group of boys was unknown. No order was established to
influence the boys to cooperate and fulfill the needed tasks to get off the island. Although, there was a
stillness about Ralph as he sat that marked him out: there was his size, and attractive appearance...yet
most powerfully, there was the conch. The being that had blown that, had sat waiting for them on the
platform with the delicate thing balanced on his knees, was set apart (Golding 22). The conch shell
was able to control and demand a large audience. It provided Ralph with a

Collegiate Athlete Argumentative Essay
Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection we can catch excellence (Vince Lombardi).
Collegiate athletes have the best chance of success in college, because they constantly get pressure
from the coaches to get good grades, won t have any debt after college because they are on full
scholarship and playing sports helps builds social network.
Coaches keep players on their toes by staying on them every second of the day to keep their grades up.
If coaches didn t stay on their players about their grades, then they will be lackadaisical about their
school work. Coaches and players have a hand and hand relationship, players feed off their coaches
enthusiasm. Everyday in practice and workouts there is not a day where our coaches don t speak on
grades, tutors or even establishing a relationship with our professors. As an athlete grades are
everything because without passing grades, according to the NCAA you are not permitted to

Winston Churchill Personality
Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. (Xplore). This quote
by Winston Churchill exemplifies his hardworking and stubborn personality which helped him
become a figurehead of British history. Churchill s time as a young boy inspired him to pursue a
career in politics, which in turn transformed him into a masterful public speaker and the legendary
personality that he is remembered and celebrated for today. Winston s early years played a major role
in shaping him into the legendary leader he was later in his life. Winston Leonard Churchill was born
on Nov, 30, 1874, in Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire, England. His father was Conservative politician,
Lord Randolph Henry Spencer Churchill and his mother was Jennie Jerome, daughter of a New York
stockbroker, financier and newspaper proprietor. They were a glamorous high society couple but,
distant parents. They were more interested in being part of the English society than caring for her son.
His parents were rarely around to care for and love him; this lead to him resenting them at times. He
felt they treated him as an afterthought (International Churchill Society 1 2). Winston had one younger
brother, named Jack Churchill, who took up his parents attention even more. Since their parents were
always away from home, the Churchill boys were cared for by a nanny named Mrs.Everest. Winston

This widespread transmission of a corporation s misconduct will then have significant ramifications
for their reputation and profitability. The case of Shell in Ogoni (Niger Delta, Nigeria), the Brent Spar

conducts of a corporation can affect their reputation. However, the tension between CSR concepts and
CSR practices remain and this has led some to 3 declare that there is a need for logic and empirical
evidence to show the true cost and benefit of CSR for both business and society (Devinney, 2009, 44).
This paper attempts to contribute to the CSR debate by addressing the following questions: (1) To
what extent has the adoption of the CSR principles and practices resulted in positive outcomes for

for his reign but also for marrying six wives. While married to his first wife, Catherine, only one of
their seven children survived, Mary Tudor. Wanting to produce a male heir and for the sake of
convenience, Henry became Protestant. He became Protestant because he wanted to divorce

wars, but she cannot stay out of this one because her land was at stake. Her counsel, the majority of
which consists of Catholics, urges her to make a decision. Duke of Norfolk (Christopher Ecclesston),
a contender for the throne, is left in charge to make a final decision. In the middle of the movie, the
viewer is shown a clip of the ending of the war; Scotland has won. The small rivers have turned red
from all the open wounds of the soldiers and hundreds are lying dead in a big field across Mary of

of England s Protestant boys struggling to rise to his feet in English blood. Mary of Guise walks
slowly up to his side and wipes his blood on a blue cloth, which represents the Scottish flag. She asks
the boy to give that cloth to his queen. The scene ends with Mary of Guise saying, English blood on

children were being sent to fight the war and risk their lives because Catholics did not want to send
their reinforcements to fight for a Protestant Queen, thus causing untrained children to die.

Music Piracy s Impact On The Industry
Music Piracy s Impact on the Industry
The digital age has brought innumerable benefits to society throughout the past decade. Many new
markets have been created, and routes for innovation have opened, but not all industries have
flourished as a result of this era. Music piracy, which is the illegal act of obtaining or distributing
sound recordings without the owner s permission, is theorized to be the ultimate downfall of the music
industry. CD sales have plummeted and caused the music moguls to panic, but their worriedness might
be narrow sighted. Through speculative research, it can be surmised that the act of piracy can
positively influence a musician s career, allow for new opportunities and niches in the market, and
have little side effects to anyone else in the business. Pirating music, regardless of reason, is illegal in
the United States and holds great penalties. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) is
the entity in charge of enforcing copyright violations. According to their website, Criminal charges
may leave you with a felony record, accompanied by up to five years of jail time and fines up to
$250,000 (RIAA). With charges at that rate, the public would be expected to pay the $0.99 fee for a
song on iTunes rather than face the repercussions, but the rate only increased. The problem lies in the
actual enforcement of the laws. Mass CD distribution can be sourced back to a seller and exploited in
that manner, but the average person in this

What Caused The Egyptian Revolution
Our freedom is not up for negotiation. (Mohamed ElBaradei). The Egyptian Revolution was a battle to
take back rights that had been taken away for nearly thirty years.Socially, the main causes were a lack
of human rights, and poor living conditions.Economic changes also promoted the development of
protests. Political leaders were unjust, provoking citizens to create an uproar of resistance. The
Egyptian Revolution has had many harsh social, destructive economic, yet promising political impacts
on the Egyptian people while the prospect for peace remains uncertain. The Egyptian revolution took
place all over Egypt. The conflict involved two groups, the Egyptian people, and the government. The
first protest was on January 25th, 2011. The people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Poor conditions sparked the Egyptian Revolution. The work conditions were so poor, that ...a street
vendor in Tunisia set himself on fire in front a municipal building to protest his work conditions
(Global Issues in Context Online Collection). This is an example of the many forms of protests in the
Egyptian revolution. A street vendor had been severely mistreated in his job, so he put on a public
display to draw attention to his struggles. Setting himself on fire was his way of telling the world that
he needed a change. A social impact of the Egyptian Revolution were the emergency measures taken
by the government to control protesters. Although protests were non violent, the police used very
abusive tactics to end them. Police used tear gas, rubber bullets, firehoses and even guns, to end
protests. (Egyptian Anti Government Protests). Despite the country s fight to end police brutality, and
other violations of human rights, their protests were stopped by any means necessary. The struggle
that Egypt was going through was so harsh, the police had the right to mistreat anyone participating in
even the most peaceful protests. The biggest social impact of the Egyptian Revolution was the number
of casualties. Egyptian people faced mass arrests of protesters, injuries, and even deaths. Over the
course of the revolution, there were at least 840 deaths.(Britannica School). Despite both sides good
intentions, the number of casualties in the Egyptian revolution was astounding. Protesters were abused
in protests, but they needed a better life. The police force and government wanted to keep things under
control, but their efforts sparked more and more protests. This illustrates that a need is often granted
with a sacrifice. In Egypt s fight for human rights, it was clear it would not be easy, but the impacts
were more significant

Hrm Best Practices and Transfers to the Asia-Pacific Region
HRM Best Practices and Transfers to the Asia Pacific Region
Table 21.1 Selective Research on Best HRM Practices by Author

Approaching the second decade of the 21st century provides a fresh opportunity to think about kinds
of possible management. In this regard, the area of human resource management (HRM) has become
even more important to business, policymaking, and nations, including in the economically dynamic
Asia Pacific region. Most of the Asian economies had rapid growth rates for the past two to three
decades, although uneven from year to year, and were then hit by the 1997 Asian Financial Crisis.
Interestingly, now the very same HRM practices formerly seen as paragons (and taken as best
practices by some), ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, in best practice thinking, a universal prescription is preferred (Boxall Purcell, 2003, p. 61).
One strand in the area is the development of lists of best practices. Among the most famous are those
of Pfeffer (1994, 1998), whose list of 16 (of relevance here included employment security, selectivity
in selection, promotion from within, high pay, incentive pay, wage compression, and training and skill
development), later narrowed to seven (of relevance here were employment security, selective and
sophisticated hiring, high compensation contingent on performance, extensive training and
development, reduction of status differentials, and sharing information self managed
teams/teamworking; see overviews of other lists in Boxall Purcell, 2003; Redman Wilkinson, 2006).
Some take a broad definition that best practices are those that can add value to the business. Others are
more specific and pinpoint certain practices in particular situations. For others, they are those present
in successful and/or high profile companies. Indeed, research on best practices including collective
issues of work organization and employee voice is rare (Boxall Purcell, 2003).
Recent studies (Tables 21.1 sorted by author and 21.2 by practice) typically include comprehensive
employee recruitment procedures, incentive compensation, performance management systems,
extensive employee training, and so

Are Child Beauty Pageants Beneficial Or Harmful
Are child beauty pageants detrimental or beneficial to children who participate in them? Contestant s,
primarily young girls in different age divisions, are evaluated in a variety of categories by multiple
judges, with the end result being the crowning of the winner who possesses, in pageant parlance, the
complete package. There are usually multiple runners up as well. The winner in each age division
typically moves onto the next pageant in the series from the regional level to the state level or to the
state level to the national level. Like other extracurricular activities, child pageants are meant to be
enjoyable learning experiences. The history of beauty pageants began in the U.S. in 1921, with the
introduction of the Miss America Pageant. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Zappos Customer Service
1. Zappos logistics contribute to its core competency and competitive advantage
Sharing Information with Suppliers Zappos has a very special relationship with all of its suppliers.
Through every interaction they work to WOW them by not only being great business partners but
Zappos shares all of their inventory information with them. They developed an Extranet which allows
venders to see on hand inventory, sales and pricing and margins. This insight provides Zappos with a
clear competitive advantage when it comes to managing their inventory. Instead of only having
internal buyers worry about when and what to purchase the venders themselves can make
recommendations. If a supplier sees that one item is selling really well they can ... Show more content

This move would have severe tradeoffs when it comes to customers and UPS. Currently Zappos is
UPS number 3 next day air shipping customer. By not utilizing this service it could have a significant
impact on UPS and Zappos relationship with UPS. Even though Zappos would still use UPS for the
ground shipping, UPS would see a significant revenue drop since next day air shipping is more
expensive.
Since only 60% of customers would receive their order within 2 days the other 40% would not get that
WOW factor of fast delivery. Zappos is known for its fast delivery and service and without that
customer satisfaction may drop. Having 40% of customers not being having a WOW experience could
significantly hurt the customer base.
3. Expanding the business
I would expand Zappos by extending the supply web to current retailers such as Target or Macy s.
Take Target for example. On Target.com they have an extensive shoe selection which the inventory
needs to be stored in a Target distribution center. Zappos could hold this inventory and make the
shipments when someone orders shoes on Target.com. This would benefit both Target and Zappos.
Target would be able to reduce their shoe inventory in their distribution centers. They would also be
able to offer wider selection of shoes on Target.com. Zappos would benefit by gaining a large portion
of new customers who are regular Target guests. A second way I would expand Zappos would be to

Suspense In The Film Jaws
In the film jaw Steven spielberg uses a blend of tracking and low angle shots to show what is
happening and a mix of non diegetic sound and lots of low angle shots to provide you with the feeling
of being underwater to give you the feeling of suspense and you can also tell from their costumes they
were in a rush to get ready because everything was kind of falling then again when she was going to
swim. As soon as the scene starts their is an element of suspense throughout the way they were
dressed as if they were in a big rush to go swim which makes you think why were they doing this.
There is also the fact when she starts getting attacked by the shark the music gets faster giving you the
feeling of being on edge ultimately creating suspense.

Feminism In Willa Cather s O Pioneers !
Willa Cather, a nineteenth century American female writer, used her childhood experiences growing
up on the great plains of Nebraska to write about a woman named Alexandra Bergson and her
struggles on her family s farm on the Nebraskan frontier in the book, O Pioneers! ( Willa Sibert Cather
). The narrator follows Alexandra throughout her life, and shows how she became successful while
overcoming the patriarchy. Conversely, Cather also wrote about a young, confused girl named Marie
Tovesky, who found herself in a crumbling relationship, not sure if she loved the man she married, or
Alexandra s sibling Emil. Her story both regales the reader with a tragedy, but also shows how others
treated and oppressed women during that time. Cather s O Pioneers! tells the tales of two women who
find themselves on varying levels of society, and uses their stories to address feminism. Alexandra
Bergson grew up in the small town of Hanover, Nebraska on her family s farm, otherwise known as
The Divide. After many catastrophes blighted the farm, her father, John Bergson was on the brink of
death. Feminism first appears here, when, on his deathbed, John Bergson gave his farm to Alexandra
because she was the one who ...read the papers and followed the markets, and who learned by the
mistakes of their neighbors , and the one who ...could always tell about what it had cost to fatten each
steer, and who could guess the weight of a hog before it went on the scales... (Cather

The Design of Life
The Design of Life God or Evolution?
Life has indeed been designed, but by whom or what is the central controversy. Creationists believe it
was an intelligent designer, namely, God; evolutionists believe it was a driving force of nature,
namely, natural selection. Natural selection works when life forms with advantageous survival traits
live long enough to breed, therefore passing on those traits to the next generation. Life forms with
weaker traits die before breeding, and therefore disappear from the gene pool. Genetic diversity results
in slight variations of these hereditary traits from generation to generation, which allows a species to
adapt to the changing demands of a changing environment. This results in a suitability ... Show more

The problem is one of choosing the correct analogy. He pointed out that the universe more resembles a
living organism than a mechanical watch which indicates that the universe must have started as a fetus
in a cosmic womb! Other scholars also lampooned Paley s argument; Voltaire argued that noses must
have been designed to hold up glasses, and that bunny rabbits must have been given white tails so they
could be easier to shoot. The idea of design was so thoroughly and effectively ridiculed that
theologians of the time actually stopped using it as an argument, although, curiously enough, it would
resurface in the 20th century.
Darwin essentially agreed that life had been designed, although not necessarily by the designer that
Paley evoked. Darwin s advance on the argument was that the designer did not have to be an
intelligent being, but could also be a driving force of nature. Consider the example of horse breeding.
A rancher can select any trait among his horses that he would like to emphasize for example, small
size. By breeding his smallest horses together, he will eventually obtain a line of miniature horses.
Evolutionists cite this as proof that species can change as a result of selective breeding. Creationists
respond quite rightly that the process needs a designer, in this case the rancher. But evolutionists point
out that the same process happens in nature. Imagine a land separated by a mountain range a thousand
miles long.

American Sign Language Essay
American Sign Language, ASL or Ameslan, is a visual gestural language of the Deaf community that
was made for and by Deaf people. It is visual due to its use of body movements rather than sounds, so
receivers are using their eyes to understand what is being said. While by gestural it refers to the
elements that are comprised of specific movements and shapes of the hands and arms, eyes, face, and
head and body posture that act as the words and tone (Charlotte, pg. 1).
Personally a great deal of what was mentioned and discussed in this brochure I did not know nor
realized, especially about its history. There are several different sign languages like Chinese, French,
Danish, and Taiwanese Sign language. American Sign Language was actually a combination of sign
language(s) used in America prior to 1817 and Old French Sign Language. Since there is hardly any
information about deaf people in America before 1817, it is assumed that foreigners brought
knowledge of sign languages used in their countries. However, if one was not known they probably
made their own signs or home signs. In 1817, Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet and Laurent Clerc
established the first American school for deaf people and an important outcome was that it was the
first time that large numbers of deaf ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The following case highlights the problems associated with lack of cooperation between employees of

environment in an organization.
Introduction:
Starworth Airlines is a successful air carrier service provider which has its inflight services in New
York and also in six major cities. It was established in 1984 with its first base in city of New York and
has been successful right from its inception in providing airline services to passengers. In these years
it has expanded its bases to six major cities.

passengers. The personnel involved in passenger services were spending lot of time in paperwork
during the boarding time of passengers. She thinks, this has led to unnecessary delays in flight
operations in New York. So, she has decided to make the boarding procedures more efficient by
coordinating with the passenger service personnel and the flight attendants. This may probably reduce
the ground time of the flights and also increase the passenger satisfaction as more emphasis will be

the first African American Fighting group that flew combat missions for the United States military in
World War II. Throughout their time overseas they were breaking down racial barriers by proving that
colored men can fly a plane just as well as their white aviation counterparts. In order to get their
chance to prove that they were able to serve their country, many things had to go right before they
were allowed to take their wheels off the ground. They faced constant discrimination but because of
that discrimination they were able to conquer the stereotypes and rise to become some of the most

This was a huge stop on the way to success of having the first class of recruits leave the airfields and
move into combat. The wife of the president gave encouragement and fully backed the Tuskegee
Airmen and gave them determination and consequently the space to push out the first class of recruits.
Before this could happen there were a few problems on the camp that the recruits had to overcome.
One of which being Colonel Von Kimble. As the commanding officer on the base, he oversaw the day
to day operations of the entire base including, the training regimen and schedule of the current
recruits. Von Kimble was a white man that was not very supportive of the program making it near
impossible for expansion and advanced training to occur on the base. Col. Edward Glenn makes the
point in his interview with Studs Terkel that even on the base in training the whites ate separately then
the blacks . Von Kimble kept tight to the law of the land Alabama and did not deviate from the
mentality that the southerners had adopted throughout the the decades.(Terkel) In December of 1942
Lt. Col. Parrish became the director of operations due to this, Von Kimble was relieved of his duties.
Lt. Col. Parrish was much more cognizant of segregation and pushed for a completely desegregated
airfield. (Historynet) He refused to cut corners and was determined to see the recruits as nothing more
than trainees and not races. This determination and resilience helped to

Corruption In The Oedipus Complex
Cormac McCarthy s novel exemplifies the nature of power and corruption in a post apocalyptic
setting. Throughout the entirety of the novel, readers are witnessed to a relationship between a man
and boy displaying their encounters in a corrupt dystopia. Following the death of his wife, the man
and his son embark on a journey through this setting in hopes of reaching the coast where they would
be isolated from cannibalism, corruption, and empowerment. These different acts can relate to
multiple readings of psychology and mythology. Readers are first captured by the corruption of this
dystopia immediately at the beginning of the novel. The author addresses the man believing as if the
month was October , stating that he has not kept a calendar for years (McCarthy 1). By inferring that
the month is October we can assure that the man and boy have been living in this corrupt dystopia for
an expanded time. As they continue on this journey, images of a psychological comparison come to
mind. Dr. Sigmund Freud s, The Oedipus Complex, is a theory of psychosexual stages of development
to describe a boy s feelings of desire for his mother and jealousy and anger towards his father. This
Oedipus Complex directly correlates to the boy s relationship to his father, specifically when they
encountered another man: this man was struck with lightning and was struggling to survive. Instead of
helping, the man decided to worry about their own survival and continue their journey to the

The Chase Approach
The Chase Approach, developed by Marian Chase, is the dance/movement therapy orientation that
continues to be studied and practiced the most to date. This orientation focuses on the therapist joining
a client on their verbal and physical level through mirroring or attunement. These interventions
involve group work that builds trust and communication through rhythmic movements. Mirroring of
the clients movements is a key rehabilitative intervention that validates their emotions on a deeply
personal and genuine level (Malchiodi, 2005, p.71). Susan Sandel, a student of Marian Chase,
identified the need to expand on the concept of mirroring through empathic reflection , which
highlighted the importance of nonjudgmental and supportive growth.

The complex structure and foreign nature of Tibetan medicine makes it difficult to relate its practices
to Western medicine, making it difficult to determine the clinical efficacy of Eastern medical practice.
Several clinical analysis studies have recently been performed in order to determine the efficacy of the
holistic practices of Eastern cultures. Whether the studies show Eastern or Western practices to be
more effective, I believe that the most effective treatment should be a combination of both practices.

It is a strong belief of the Tibetans that their karma of previous lives plays a significant role in their

Tibetan medicine practices the belief that methods must be practiced as equally as they are learned
academically. Misinterpretations of certain Buddhist aspects of Eastern medicine create difficulties in
relating Eastern and Western principles. Some Westerners feel that all you need to practice medicine in
the East is a strong sense of compassion to help people, without having any real knowledge of the
medical practices: A few weekend courses and all the good intentions in the world it would seem is all
that is thought to be necessary. (Dummer p. 11). This, however, is not the case at all. Eastern
practitioners spend years learning medical procedures and techniques before going into practice. They
are also fully educated in the spiritual aspects of medicine as well, as for religion plays a significant
role in Eastern practices. Inadequate training may result in improper care and detrimental diagnosis to
those who may be seriously ill or suffering from undiagnosed diseases.7
Eastern medicine also differs from Western practices in the way in which the human body is classified.
In Tibetan medicine, the constituents of the body are quantified more on an observatory and physical
basis, rather than the scientific and technological methods used in Western medicine. Tibetan practice

  • 2. sequential gearboxes Essay Running Head: SEQUENTIAL GEARBOXES Abstract This paper will discuss the technology of sequential gearboxes. Relatively new technology, the sequential gearbox has been applied mostly in ATV s, motorcycles, and the automobile racing industry. Recently this technology has begun to reach passenger cars. There are three main points of discussion; the workings of a manual transmission, how a sequential gearbox works and the advantages of them, and the applications of it today. The sequential gearbox is extremely revolutionary and is only used in high end passenger cars, but maybe one day it will be a luxury the majority of the population will be able to experience. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... How Sequential Gearboxes Work In a regular manual transmission there are three forks controlled by three rods that are engaged by the shift lever by the driver. The normal H pattern that the driver sees on top of the shifter enables him or her to move the shift lever between the control rods for the three forks and thus moving the rods back and forth. When all of these aspects are combined a successful shift is accomplished. Transmissions on ATV s or motorcycles using sequential gearboxes have a set of gear selection forks that move collars, which engage the gears just like on regular manual transmissions. The gearshift lever is moved up and down by the foot and the transmission is moved from gear to gear. When the gearshift lever is moved by the foot, a ratcheting drum is rotated. This ratcheting drum has grooves cut into the side of it. The grooves on the ratcheting drum will direct the control rods when the drum is away from the transmission s gears. Moving the gear selector fork is the most common use of the grooves. With this in mind, whenever the lever is moved up or down, the drum is rotated one increment. The rotation of the drum allows for movement of the rods or forks as set by the grooves in the drum and the gears are then changed (Brain, n.d.). The gear shifting sequence can only be done in order; this means that no gears can be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Life Of Prophet Muhammad Amine Lehachi Islamic History 1100 Mrs. Jorati September 20th, 2015 The Life of Prophet Muhammad The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH Peace be upon him) is the messenger of God in Islam. He was born in the city of Makkah (Mecca) in the Arabian Peninsula around 570 CE. Many historians believe he became an orphan at a very early age. The Arabian Peninsula at the time had no law or order; people were described as savages for their ill customs and traditions. People of Arabia worshipped idols and ancient Arabian religions; some were also Christian and Jewish. When it came to religion people were divided in the region, people were divided into tribes and had different sets of beliefs. Prophet Muhammad set to change this, he wanted to unify the region and establish an independent nation. Before he started his Prophecy he married an older woman, a widow named Khadijah, for whom he had worked for in the caravan trade. When he was a merchant, he was known as al Amin, the trusted one. When Prophet Muhammad was forty years old, he had a profound experience that really changed his life. In this essay I will evaluate the significant events of his career starting with The First revelation; The migration to Medina and lastly the great Battle of Badr. These significant events play an important role on how the foundation of a newly reformed monotheistic religion called Islam came to be. A significant event that really changed the course of his life was when Prophet Muhammad was 40 years old. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Examples Of Evil In Young Goodman Brown Young Goodman Brown: Good versus Evil Throughout Young Goodman Brown and other works of Nathaniel Hawthorne, the themes of sin and guilt constantly reoccur. Like many authors, Hawthorne used events in his life as a basis for the stories that he wrote. Hawthorne felt that ones guilt does not die with him/her but is rather passed down through the generations. Hawthorne s great great uncle was one of the judges during the Salem witchcraft trials. Hawthorne felt a great sense of guilt because of this. Hawthorne used a great deal of symbolism to depict what would come to be known as the subconscious. In this allegory he used symbolism to speak of a dreamlike process. Hawthorne used the characters and the events of the story to create a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This unexpectedly causes Young Goodman Brown to distrust things due to his unexpected decision of occurrence a having gone through either a dream or reality. In Young Goodman Brown, a figurative allegory is taking place. This traditional allegory is different from most others in that it derives from the symbolism of the plot, the setting, and the characters. The sub meaning of this story has social, political, and religious connotations. The characters in this story were often personifications of theoretical emotions such as faith, greed, and evil. The characters names such as Goodman, Faith, and Gookin are symbolic of religion and are at opposing ends of evil in the story. On the day of their wedding, Faith, Goodman Brown s wife was wearing pink ribbons in her hair. This was very symbolic of her being childlike and young. Also, everything that has to do with her is about her doubting herself and her relationship with Young Goodman Brown. It was important for Hawthorne to show the youth in these two characters. This was another religious reference. In the bible it states Who ever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not receive it at all. (Hawthorne, 635) This means that it is important to be like a child and be content without knowing everything else that is out there. It also means that if one is on a quest for knowledge then he/she does not leave room for someone else to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Temperature Of Alka Seltzer Alka Seltzer being affected by different temperatures in different cups Research Question How does the temperature affect the speed in which an Alka Seltzer tablet fully dissolves in three cups filled with water with different temperatures. Background Information A chemical reaction is a process that involves change of the molecular or ionic structure of a substance, as opposed to a change in physical form or a nuclear reaction. The key concepts of a chemical reaction are: The atoms and molecules that interact with each other are called reactants The molecules and atoms produced in a chemical reaction are called products No atoms are destroyed or created they only end up in other products Reactants collide with each other so new bonds between atoms in the reactants are broken, and atoms rearrange and form new bonds to make new products ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A larger concentration of products is usually linked to a lower reaction rate. Usually an increase in temperature in a chemical reaction means that there will be an increase in the reaction rate of the reactants. Temperature is a measure of the kinetic energy of a system. If temperature is the measure of the kinetic energy of a system, higher temperature implies a higher average kinetic energy of molecules and more collisions per time. This would happen because when the temperature is increased and the reactants will start moving faster and will collide more than before with other reactants and will start forming products. This image explains that the higher the temperature, the concentration, and the pressure the faster the rate of the reaction is. Rate of Reaction. CHEM4KIDS. N.p., n.d. Web. 16 Aug. 2016. ... • 7. Theme Of Voice And Silence In The God Of Small Things The God of Small things is the polyphonic novel, where characters are demarcated on the basis of their certain elements of language, which enhance their importance and employ meaningful existence in the story. Readers and critics elicit meanings through gestures, actions, voices and silences of the characters. Language acts as a synecdoche, thus voice, its intonation and accents has also significance in creation of characters. Voice and silence work paradoxically as metonymy. Both are mandatory in the world of literature, themes of plays, novels and poetry become significant with these two devices of language; where voice leaves its words, silence shows meaning. One of the most difficult parts in owning a chainsaw is the upkeep that the equipment needs. Sharpening your unit is a seemingly tedious task that several people would rather leave to professionals instead of doing it on their own. Nevertheless, this practice may be quite expensive, especially if you need to sharpen several chains. Eventually, you will be torn between spending your money on a professional or putting in more effort to do the sharpening on your own. You may think that there is no compromise for this dilemma... As it is a corded electric chainsaw, your work area is limited to places situated within the reach of an extension cord that should also have an access to an electrical outlet. The extension cord also needs to be securely locked to avoid being detached from the outlet while you work. Pros This unit comes with a patented technology called PowerSharp Chainsaw Sharpening System that allows for tool free chainsaw sharpening within three seconds It has an over mold handle that causes the chainsaw to produce less vibrations and allows the user to run the equipment comfortably and conveniently The Oregon CS1500 is engineered with an automated chain braking system that is designed for the added safety for the users It is easy to maintain and eliminates the cost of professional chainsaw sharpening Cons There are a few users who have commented that the chain falls off easily Since it is a corded electric chainsaw, the working space that you can work with is limited to the radius of the extension cord You must avoid heavy duty cutting with any electric chainsaw, however, this unit can cut through thicker pieces of wood (with a diameter of 16 inches) compared to other electrically powered ... The size of the facility is 1,009,400 square feet 2. Some of the large cities that is located near the facility are Mesa, Tucson, Chandler, Glendale, and Scottsdale. • 11. Lord Of The Flies Civilization Analysis Within any civilization, there are multiple key components required in order to create a functioning society. As explained through Lord of the Flies by William Golding, these pivotal building blocks of a civilization can play a great part into bringing a group of people to society, or drag them all down into savagery. The conch shell is an excellent example of political legitimacy and democratic power. Although, while this device can be used for good; providing others with order and sanity, it can also be used for the utter destruction of a civilization. The conch shell in Lord of the Flies by William Golding begins as civilization and order, becomes the fragility of power and influence, and concludes with the collapse of any civilized thoughts. Civilization and order can be found within every society, and this is no exception within the group of boys in the beginning of the novel. Throughout the exposition of the story, governance over the group of boys was unknown. No order was established to influence the boys to cooperate and fulfill the needed tasks to get off the island. Although, there was a stillness about Ralph as he sat that marked him out: there was his size, and attractive appearance...yet most powerfully, there was the conch. The being that had blown that, had sat waiting for them on the platform with the delicate thing balanced on his knees, was set apart (Golding 22). The conch shell was able to control and demand a large audience. It provided Ralph with a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This quote by Winston Churchill exemplifies his hardworking and stubborn personality which helped him become a figurehead of British history. Churchill s time as a young boy inspired him to pursue a career in politics, which in turn transformed him into a masterful public speaker and the legendary personality that he is remembered and celebrated for today. Winston s early years played a major role in shaping him into the legendary leader he was later in his life. Winston Leonard Churchill was born on Nov, 30, 1874, in Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire, England. His father was Conservative politician, Lord Randolph Henry Spencer Churchill and his mother was Jennie Jerome, daughter of a New York stockbroker, financier and newspaper proprietor. They were a glamorous high society couple but, distant parents. They were more interested in being part of the English society than caring for her son. His parents were rarely around to care for and love him; this lead to him resenting them at times. He felt they treated him as an afterthought (International Churchill Society 1 2). Winston had one younger brother, named Jack Churchill, who took up his parents attention even more. Many new markets have been created, and routes for innovation have opened, but not all industries have flourished as a result of this era. Music piracy, which is the illegal act of obtaining or distributing sound recordings without the owner s permission, is theorized to be the ultimate downfall of the music industry. CD sales have plummeted and caused the music moguls to panic, but their worriedness might be narrow sighted. Through speculative research, it can be surmised that the act of piracy can positively influence a musician s career, allow for new opportunities and niches in the market, and have little side effects to anyone else in the business. Pirating music, regardless of reason, is illegal in the United States and holds great penalties. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) is the entity in charge of enforcing copyright violations. According to their website, Criminal charges may leave you with a felony record, accompanied by up to five years of jail time and fines up to $250,000 (RIAA). With charges at that rate, the public would be expected to pay the $0.99 fee for a song on iTunes rather than face the repercussions, but the rate only increased. This is an example of the many forms of protests in the Egyptian revolution. A street vendor had been severely mistreated in his job, so he put on a public display to draw attention to his struggles. Setting himself on fire was his way of telling the world that he needed a change. A social impact of the Egyptian Revolution were the emergency measures taken by the government to control protesters. Although protests were non violent, the police used very abusive tactics to end them. Police used tear gas, rubber bullets, firehoses and even guns, to end protests. (Egyptian Anti Government Protests). Despite the country s fight to end police brutality, and other violations of human rights, their protests were stopped by any means necessary. The struggle that Egypt was going through was so harsh, the police had the right to mistreat anyone participating in even the most peaceful protests. The biggest social impact of the Egyptian Revolution was the number of casualties. Egyptian people faced mass arrests of protesters, injuries, and even deaths. Over the course of the revolution, there were at least 840 deaths.(Britannica School). Despite both sides good intentions, the number of casualties in the Egyptian revolution was astounding. Willa Cather, a nineteenth century American female writer, used her childhood experiences growing up on the great plains of Nebraska to write about a woman named Alexandra Bergson and her struggles on her family s farm on the Nebraskan frontier in the book, O Pioneers! ( Willa Sibert Cather ). The narrator follows Alexandra throughout her life, and shows how she became successful while overcoming the patriarchy. Conversely, Cather also wrote about a young, confused girl named Marie Tovesky, who found herself in a crumbling relationship, not sure if she loved the man she married, or Alexandra s sibling Emil. Her story both regales the reader with a tragedy, but also shows how others treated and oppressed women during that time. Cather s O Pioneers! tells the tales of two women who find themselves on varying levels of society, and uses their stories to address feminism. Alexandra Bergson grew up in the small town of Hanover, Nebraska on her family s farm, otherwise known as The Divide. Creationists believe it was an intelligent designer, namely, God; evolutionists believe it was a driving force of nature, namely, natural selection. Natural selection works when life forms with advantageous survival traits live long enough to breed, therefore passing on those traits to the next generation. Life forms with weaker traits die before breeding, and therefore disappear from the gene pool. Genetic diversity results in slight variations of these hereditary traits from generation to generation, which allows a species to adapt to the changing demands of a changing environment. He pointed out that the universe more resembles a living organism than a mechanical watch which indicates that the universe must have started as a fetus in a cosmic womb! Other scholars also lampooned Paley s argument; Voltaire argued that noses must have been designed to hold up glasses, and that bunny rabbits must have been given white tails so they could be easier to shoot. The idea of design was so thoroughly and effectively ridiculed that theologians of the time actually stopped using it as an argument, although, curiously enough, it would resurface in the 20th century. Darwin essentially agreed that life had been designed, although not necessarily by the designer that Paley evoked. Darwin s advance on the argument was that the designer did not have to be an intelligent being, but could also be a driving force of nature. Consider the example of horse breeding. A rancher can select any trait among his horses that he would like to emphasize for example, small size. By breeding his smallest horses together, he will eventually obtain a line of miniature horses. Evolutionists cite this as proof that species can change as a result of selective breeding. Creationists respond quite rightly that the process needs a designer, in this case the rancher. But evolutionists point out that the same process happens in nature. American Sign Language was actually a combination of sign language(s) used in America prior to 1817 and Old French Sign Language. • 32. Tuskegee Airmen And The Civil Rights Movement Kyle Ondar Dr. Adair WGS 252 31, March 2017 Tuskegee Airmen Many people know of the story of the Tuskegee Airmen, they were the first African American Fighting group that flew combat missions for the United States military in World War II. Throughout their time overseas they were breaking down racial barriers by proving that colored men can fly a plane just as well as their white aviation counterparts. In order to get their chance to prove that they were able to serve their country, many things had to go right before they were allowed to take their wheels off the ground. They faced constant discrimination but because of that discrimination they were able to conquer the stereotypes and rise to become some of the most decorated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This was a huge stop on the way to success of having the first class of recruits leave the airfields and move into combat. The wife of the president gave encouragement and fully backed the Tuskegee Airmen and gave them determination and consequently the space to push out the first class of recruits. Before this could happen there were a few problems on the camp that the recruits had to overcome. One of which being Colonel Von Kimble. As the commanding officer on the base, he oversaw the day to day operations of the entire base including, the training regimen and schedule of the current recruits. Von Kimble was a white man that was not very supportive of the program making it near impossible for expansion and advanced training to occur on the base. Col. Edward Glenn makes the point in his interview with Studs Terkel that even on the base in training the whites ate separately then the blacks . Von Kimble kept tight to the law of the land Alabama and did not deviate from the mentality that the southerners had adopted throughout the the decades.(Terkel) In December of 1942 Lt. Col. Parrish became the director of operations due to this, Von Kimble was relieved of his duties. Lt. Col. Parrish was much more cognizant of segregation and pushed for a completely desegregated airfield. (Historynet) He refused to cut corners and was determined to see the recruits as nothing more than trainees and not races. This determination and resilience helped to ... • 34. Corruption In The Oedipus Complex Cormac McCarthy s novel exemplifies the nature of power and corruption in a post apocalyptic setting. Throughout the entirety of the novel, readers are witnessed to a relationship between a man and boy displaying their encounters in a corrupt dystopia. Following the death of his wife, the man and his son embark on a journey through this setting in hopes of reaching the coast where they would be isolated from cannibalism, corruption, and empowerment. These different acts can relate to multiple readings of psychology and mythology. Readers are first captured by the corruption of this dystopia immediately at the beginning of the novel. The author addresses the man believing as if the month was October , stating that he has not kept a calendar for years (McCarthy 1). By inferring that the month is October we can assure that the man and boy have been living in this corrupt dystopia for an expanded time. As they continue on this journey, images of a psychological comparison come to mind. Dr. Sigmund Freud s, The Oedipus Complex, is a theory of psychosexual stages of development to describe a boy s feelings of desire for his mother and jealousy and anger towards his father. This Oedipus Complex directly correlates to the boy s relationship to his father, specifically when they encountered another man: this man was struck with lightning and was struggling to survive. Instead of helping, the man decided to worry about their own survival and continue their journey to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. The Chase Approach The Chase Approach, developed by Marian Chase, is the dance/movement therapy orientation that continues to be studied and practiced the most to date. This orientation focuses on the therapist joining a client on their verbal and physical level through mirroring or attunement. These interventions involve group work that builds trust and communication through rhythmic movements. Mirroring of the clients movements is a key rehabilitative intervention that validates their emotions on a deeply personal and genuine level (Malchiodi, 2005, p.71). Susan Sandel, a student of Marian Chase, identified the need to expand on the concept of mirroring through empathic reflection , which highlighted the importance of nonjudgmental and supportive growth. ... • 36. Eastern and Western Medicine Essay Eastern and Western Medicine The complex structure and foreign nature of Tibetan medicine makes it difficult to relate its practices to Western medicine, making it difficult to determine the clinical efficacy of Eastern medical practice. Several clinical analysis studies have recently been performed in order to determine the efficacy of the holistic practices of Eastern cultures. Whether the studies show Eastern or Western practices to be more effective, I believe that the most effective treatment should be a combination of both practices. Eastern and Western practices differ on many levels. One of the main differences between these two methods is the way in which medicine is actually practiced. Western medicine is heavily ... It is a strong belief of the Tibetans that their karma of previous lives plays a significant role in their health.5 Tibetan medicine practices the belief that methods must be practiced as equally as they are learned academically. Misinterpretations of certain Buddhist aspects of Eastern medicine create difficulties in relating Eastern and Western principles. Some Westerners feel that all you need to practice medicine in the East is a strong sense of compassion to help people, without having any real knowledge of the medical practices: A few weekend courses and all the good intentions in the world it would seem is all that is thought to be necessary. (Dummer p. 11). This, however, is not the case at all. Eastern practitioners spend years learning medical procedures and techniques before going into practice. They are also fully educated in the spiritual aspects of medicine as well, as for religion plays a significant role in Eastern practices. Inadequate training may result in improper care and detrimental diagnosis to those who may be seriously ill or suffering from undiagnosed diseases.7 Eastern medicine also differs from Western practices in the way in which the human body is classified. In Tibetan medicine, the constituents of the body are quantified more on an observatory and physical basis, rather than the scientific and technological methods used in Western medicine.
