How Did Civilization Affect The Development Of Civilization
Beginning in approximately 3500 BCE through the peak of the PErsian empire in 200 s BCE, humans
living together created order and structure in natural, human, and built environment systems. The
development of writing systems, religious systems, and economic systems led to the growth of
civilization and empire.
Writing systems affected the growth of civilization because it developed understanding between
people. In 3500 BCE, a writing system was created in the Sumerian culture. It was called cuneiform,
the sumerians recorded their writing on rocks. The language helped to better trade, laws, and
storytelling. Typically, it helped stories stay factual when passed down through generations. Shorty
after the language was created, men discovered math. The Persian people based their writing on the
arabic alphabet, but they too used cuneiform to communicate. The cuneiform language spread to tribes
and different tribes, making it easier for trade. THe Sumerians created a language that helped the
development of civilization and structure through the people. ... Show more content on

Economic systems developed organization between trade and people. The Sumerians lacked raw
materials for trade, but were rich in crops. Trade was constructed between them and Southwest Asia.
Another tribe that took part in trade were the Persians, they were rich in water, land, and gold. Trade
was developed between them and several other tribes. This changed the birth of civilization because it
truly was the first development of trade, still today we use the method of trade. During the ancient
times, men had political power in the sumerian culture. Typically, the women took care of their homes
and children, in some occasions they were allowed to be educated if they were upper class. The
economy was good depending on the tribe and agriculture... the better the crop the better the economy
rate. At times some tribe economies were really bad because they lacked resources to

The Human Soul And The Soul s Salvation
In his letter to the priest, Sixtus, Augustine claims that ...when [humans] suppose that free choice is
taken away if they agree that a human being cannot have a good will without the help of God, they do
not understand that they do not strengthen human choice... he establishes one of the most debated
concepts of the Reformation period: The human soul cannot save its self. This idea of Soteriology,
expressed in his Letter 194 presents only one side of the argument. On the other side of the spectrum
of soteriological ideology was Pelagius s argument that to be just in God s sight, a person must be
pure in both body and heart. Through the use of Augustine s Letter 194 as well as Pelagius s Letter to
Demetrias I will first summarize each author s argument on how much of a role human free will can
contribute to the immortal soul s salvation. Then I will explain why both sides of the argument
appealed to large groups, and why each view point remained debated all the way into the Reformation
period. Before either argument can be dissected however, some issues with the sources must be
addressed. Firstly, Pelagius s text Letter to Demetrias has been translated from its original language
into English. Pelagius was very learned in both Latin and Greek, meaning that the original text was
probably written in one of these languages. The translation into English means that there was an
opportunity for error, and for details to get lost. It is also known that Pelagius was an

Swimming Reflection
I was in 5th grade and school was going just fine. I had decent grades, some good friends, absolutely
no athletic ability. Just your typical 10 year old nerd. Soon, in Physical Education, we were going to
start our swimming unit. The more athletic kids loved this; needless to say, I didn t, and for one reason
and one reason only; I never learned how to swim.
When the day of the first swimming unit started, I felt scared, or perhaps that s my present emotions
getting in the way of my past emotions. We entered the locker room and equipped ourselves with our
swimming apparel and exited to the room with the pool. I could smell the chlorine in the air. Everyone
in my class was seated on a large steel bench and divided into groups; Beginner, Intermediate, and
Advanced.
Surprisingly enough, I was placed into the Intermediate group with two of my aforementioned friends.
I felt a weird sense of pride as I walked past the others waiting to be assigned to a group with my new
colleagues. Once everyone was assigned to a group, my group s instructor yelled out, Alright, get in
the water and hold onto the side! We did as we told, but what I didn t know was that the height of the
water in that area of the pool was greater than mine.
Next, he barked, Alright, we re gonna swim to the deep end and back!
At this point, the thoughts in my head probably resembled something like, What! or How do you
expect me to do that! I figured it would be best not to argue and I instead shot off the

Ruining Vehicles
Detailing a vehicle can be overwhelming for some people, but really there are three easy steps: pre
clean, wash, and protect. The first step is the pre clean in this step you will rinse the outside of the
vehicle. You will also remove the big dirt from the interior along with any trash. The reason for rinsing
the outside of the vehicle is to remove the large dirt so that it does not scratch the paint. Dirt is like
sand paper to the paint it will remove the clear coat causing the car to look dull. Rinsing the vehicle
also keeps the soap from drying when you start the washing process. In the interior you should remove
all the bigger trash so that it s not in the way when you go to vacuum or shampoo the interior. It also
helps to remove as much

Essay about America Needs Nuclear Energy
America Needs Nuclear Energy
There are many power sources that can be utilized for our everyday lives; to heat our homes , run our
toasters, and light our hallways. Most of that power either directly or indirectly comes form the
sun(such as solar energy and fossil fuels). But one energy source that derived by the pure ingenuity of
man is nuclear power. As with all power sources there are positive and negative externalities. For
example: the burning of fossil fuel releases SOX and NOX into the air which can cause harm to the
health of humans ie. negative externality. But what is the the environmental effect of using nuclear
energy? What is the cost of extracting all this energy from so little? Radioactivity has always ... Show

The disposal of of nuclear waste is another environmental concern that must be dealt with in a smart
manner. This is a highly debated topic for several reasons. Having a half life of 10,000+ years, some
radioactive substances will stay highly dangerous for thousands of years. One possible solution to the
storage of nuclear waste is the Yucca mountain project (McCombie). This would provide a universal
storage site for all of the nuclear waste of the United States. However; there still are many things to be
worked out for this solution such as how will the nuclear waste be safely transported to Yucca
Mountain?
The nuclear energy institute refers to nuclear energy as the most eco efficient of all energy sources
because it produces the most electricity in relation to its minimal environmental impact. Nuclear
energy created electricity without burning anything and is therefore emission free. The areas around
nuclear power plants and their cooling ponds are so clean, they are often developed as wetlands that
provide nesting areas for waterfowl and other birds, new habitats for fish, and the preservation of
other wildlife as well as trees, flowers, and grasses not to mention the amount of actual land a nuclear
power plant uses in relation to the amount of

Campus Molds Advantages And Disadvantages
Moving in as a freshman is great. You are excited, everyone helps you move in, and it goes by fast.
Moving out after freshman year is another story. The move out process is tiring, no one helps you, and
it takes forever. The young men who started Campus Crates felt these same feelings for move in and
move out of college. Their solution to the problem was creating a moving and storage company that
caters to college students. Campus Crates was started by two students both named Ryan after their
freshman year of college at Baylor University. The company became an LLC in 2016 and started
moving students that summer (Leland, 2016). Campus Crates goal is to make the lives of parents and
students easier by relieving the inconvenience and expense of moving to and from college. Campus
Crates is an on demand storage service that only requires you to register, pay, schedule a time for
boxes to be dropped off, and then pack the boxes at your own convenience. Then they will pick up
your belongings, store it in a secure facility, and then return your belongings to your new residence
(Mycampuscrates.com, 2017). Although Campus Crates was established in 2016, their concept has
proven to be successful.
Strengths
There are no other companies near the Baylor area that offer what Campus Crates offers. This fact
allows Campus Crates to have a competitive advantage over other storage companies. Campus Crates
is the only company that delivers packing supplies, picks up packed boxes, stores boxes

The Last September Essay
h bowen Published in 1929 The Last September written by Elizabeth Bowen highlights the difficulties
which faced the Irish Anglo genre. It was one of many novels published in the nineteenth and
twentieth century, based on Big House life in Ireland. Bowen herself is critical of the Anglo Irish
gentry as she believes that they are responsible for the downfall in the society. The denial of their
predicament and also their refusal to except change had caused Bowen to be censorious of them. She
expresses her points of symbolism, imagery and characterization using a variety of tactful techniques.
In the analysis these factors and techniques will be discussed in greater detail. She was to later
describe her writing as verbal paintings ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author emphasizes the pressure that is now forcing Lois to marry and to produce an heir so the
property can be passed on for more generations. Lois no longer sees Big House lifestyle as viable and
therefore further adds to the confusion in which she is facing. Lois, as the only alternative heir,
complains that she feels trapped in a cocoon and longs for some other kind of existence. (Genet., J,
p149, 1991) The ante room in which Lois visits frequently serves no particular purpose and therefore
symbolizes that indeed the room compares to Lois feelings within herself of feeling lost and lonely. In
her life deprived as she saw it there was no occasion for courage, which like an unused muscle
slackened and slept (Bowen., E, p33, 1998) Another point which suggests Lois is lost and confused is
the fact that often spends time walking outside the boundaries of the house which symbolizes her need
to escape from this façade, the so called birthright of her generation. Fantasizing how life would be
with out having the responsibility of running the Danielstown House. Throughout the novel Bowen
uses the unusual technique of personifying the Danielstown house. It is a presence that becomes
frequent throughout the poem. (For in February, before those leaves had visibly budded, the death
execution, rather of the three houses... Had occurred on the same night.)

Grendel
Grendel as a Ridiculous Character Probably one of the greatest questions of the 19th century comes
directly from John Gardner s novel Grendel. Given a world with no inherent meaning, how should one
live his or her life? Grendel lives in a world that he is not supposed to be in, acting out on emotion.
Grendel represents the animalistic traits of humans. His actions are primitive and based around society
s acceptance throughout the novel. Grendel portrays a ridiculous character that is convinced we are
born a certain way, and no matter how badly it will never change. Being that Grendel is a ridiculous
child like character there are two points of view in this analysis. The analysis of Grendel, and his
actions against humanity that is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Grendel is a perfect example of the minorities who received guidance from people who didn t want
change to happen even though they were being out casted as well. On the other hand chapter six
brings someone with compassion into Grendel s life. Unferth son of Hrothgar witnesses Grendel
attacking the mead hall, and starts to challenge Grendel very vocally QUOTE Grendel responds with
childlike sarcasm, and begins to show Unferth his capacity for language, and pities Unferth for his
courage, and the belief in heroism. Grendel doesn t romanticize about heroism the way Unferth does.
Grendel does not kill Unferth, and curses him with never taking his life during any of his raids on the
mead hall. Further on the next ridiculous event in Grendel happens as Grendel watches as Hrothgar
confronts the Helmings, as they surrender apart of the agreement becomes The leader s daughter
Wealtheow. Hrothgar takes Wealtheow as his wife, and Queen of the mead hall. Captivated by her
presence Grendel envisions child like fantasy of hanging on to her dress as she embraces him just as
she does with the children in Hart. Wealtheow is a representative of a strong woman who is beautiful,
and can stop an argument between thanes with one word. Because of Wealtheow s presence Grendel
distances himself from the hall for a little while and becomes bored with himself. Until fifteen Geats

Two of the reports, however, stand out.
January 30, 2010 LB Police officers responded to a family disturbance call at Mr. Cook s residence.
Upon entering the residence, I saw the father, Kenneth C., pinning his son, Ethan Cook, a 13 year old

On this occasion, the officer never questioned Ethan Cook independently to determine if the case

Good Character In The Movie Radio
I think that good character is very important in life because it shows who you are as a person, how you
carry yourself as a person and how you treat other people. Having good character is what I believe you
need to be successful in life, having good character can cause you to get a good job, possibly getting a
raise in your job, making friends and just doing the right thing in general. There was a bunch of good
and bad examples in Radio to start with, Coach Jones was the best example of good character in Radio
because the movie started off with Radio walking in the town and people just giving him stares and
moving out his way like he was different from everyone. When Radio was at the football practice just
watching the football ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That s how I think Radio changed Coach Jones as a person, he made him realise more about life and
made him a more caring person. The next person that had a huge personal growth change in the movie
would be Johnny. Johnny started out as this bully to Radio, Johnny tied him up and the football threw
footballs at Radio, Johnny talked Radio into going into the girl s locker room and he was just being
mean to him for no reason. When Radio got in trouble for going into the girl s locker room he didn t
tell on Johnny but Coach Jones found out and benched him for the next basketball game, and Radio
felt bad because Coach Jones yelled at Johnny so Radio wrote a letter and placed it on Johnny s bench
with a radio and that s when Johnny realized that Radio was a caring person and that s when Johnny
started being nice to Radio and Johnny returned the favor by giving Radio a Letterman jacket. There
was a bunch of other characters that had personal growth in the movie, but those two were the main
people who came along way in the movie. Also the town as a whole grew to like Radio, they said hey
to him in the school hallways, outside of school and on Christmas they helped him with a bunch of
presents and felt like he belonged in the community. Personal Character traits can help you grow as a
person because with good character by you just being nice to someone you could make their day, and
seeing them happy can make you feel

The As A Metaphor For The State Of A Nation Essay
In what ways does the figure of the child serve as a metaphor for the state of a nation?
In China s quest for modernity, the figure of the child transcended its biological definition. It took on a
symbolic metaphorical form of rejuvenation used to revitalize the state of a nation facing extinction.
After the Opium Wars, Chinese intellectuals had started to become aware of China s weakness on the
world stage. By 1900, defeat in the Sino Japanese War, the failure of the Boxer Rebellion and the
humiliating treaties that followed, made it clear to all. The old empire was in decline with the
inadequacies of tradition exposed. A critique of the Confucian Doctrine, had begun. China needed to
rejuvenate, rewriting the weaknesses of the old empire into a youthful nation. The questioning of
nationhood coincided with a rising class of literati learning outside of China. Those such as Liang
Qichao, believed that the huge gap between China and the West was not because of race but different
educational systems within which, the education of children was vital. Ideas of Social Darwinism and
the survival of the nation spread, furthering the symbolism of the child through the prism of the
nation. Reformers in this class fervently critiqued the Civil Service Examination system in relation to
foreign aggression. Lin Shu denotes, thousands of literati were trained to be familiar with Confucian
classics and historical books, but they had no ability to deal with invaders. In this way,

Validity And Validity Of Assessment
Validity refers to whether or not the test is measuring what it purports to measure. There are many
things which can influence a test s validity, such as: how the content relates to the construct being
measured; rater response processes, item relationships within the scales; as well as external variables
(Cohen Swerdlik, 2009). Validity includes measurements of criterion related validity which
encompasses both predictive validity and concurrent validity. These serve to show validity in the area
of prediction (Cohen Swerdlik, 2009). Further, convergent validity is utilized to establish a relational
validity when more than two assessments are used through showing a convergence which proves each
is measuring the same construct (Cohen Swerdlik, 2009).
Proficiency in the different methods of testing with respect to the technical aspect of assessment is a
requirement of administering and analyzing an assessment competently (Krishnamurthy et al., 2004).
In order to effectively select and implement psychological testing, one must have a thorough
understanding of the intended purpose of the assessment and further, how to decipher the results
(Cohen Swerdlik, 2009). A full understanding of sources of error, such as bias, must be understood, as
well as how to determine internal and external validity. Failures to fully understand the problems or
goals of the client could result in misappropriate test selection. Similarly incorrect selection of test
based on an incomplete

Jacques-Louis David Research Paper
Jacques Louis David was born on August 30, 1748, in Paris, France. By the time he was 9, his father
was killed in a duel, giving his widow mother no option but to leave him with his two uncles. As the
years went on, David began to show interest in painting. His uncles sent him to François Boucher, a
main painter of the time and family companion. Boucher was a Rococo painter, yet the Rococo time
was offering route to a more traditional style, so Boucher chose to send David to his companion
Joseph Marie Vien, a painter more tuned in to the neoclassical response to Rococo.
By age 18, the skilled youthful artist was enrolled at the Académie Royale (Royal Academy of

After all, this was a period in time where suicides were happening left and right so they were very
common. I think it s quite ironic that in the picture the bath tub is made up as if it were a bed. It gives
off the vibe that Marat wanted to be comfortable before he died. I think that this is a very successful
piece because it shows a brief image of the neoclassical period. It has been constructed beautifully to
show how common suicides were. I feel like the picture is a tad tragic simply because of the facial
expression David painted on Marat s face. As far as I am concerned, David did an amazing job trying
to communicate this with us. If I were to change or add anything I would ve added more red to the tub.
The bloody tub would ve added more emphasis to his death. Overall though, this was a good

The amount of money that comes out of your pocket for schooling, incarceration, jobs lost, and
maintaining the medical system in the United States because of illegal immigrants may be more than
people know. During the past few decades, the influx of illegal immigrants has risen dramatically.

It is stated by many politicians that the illegals only take the jobs that American citizens do not want.
With the guest worker program and the use of H 1B visas, businesses use these workers at a
significant lower rate of pay than they would have to pay a citizen. The number of H 1B visas issued
in 1992 was estimated at less than 100,000. By 2002 the number climbed to over 1 million (Wagner,
2007). This abuse of the working visa is absolutely legal by any company looking for workers that are
not citizens. The big business corporations are not looking to change this law as they would be out of
pocket a great deal more money in wages. Every single person in the United States will be touched by
the effects of illegals in this country at some point in their life. It may come in the form of a grocery
bill, auto insurance, property taxes, driver s license fees, hospital rates or many other areas. In the area
of healthcare, the influx of illegals has proven to put a huge burden in all areas of the system. In
California over the last decade many hospitals and emergency rooms have closed due to the illegals
being treated there and not being able to pay the bills from the hospital. Right now, California out of

Margaret Hungerford s Beauty Is In The Eye Of The Beholder
Beauty. When you see that word, what do you think of? Your significant other? A Victoria s Secret

Although it seems that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, the ridiculous standards and pressures of
beauty created by the current modeling and entertainment industry have caused us to form a warped

world. From ancient times to present day, the concept of beauty has changed tremendously. Back in
the 17th and 18th centuries, society embraced models such as Lillian Russell, a more heavyset woman
that would most likely be shunned in the current modeling industry (Bushak). Even in the mid 1900s,
one of the most iconic women of the century, Marilyn Monroe, was quite curvy herself (Bushak).
Then, in the 1990s, skinny was in; models were progressively becoming thinner and thinner to the
point we are at now, influencing the major eating disorder epidemic and body insecurities in
adolescents we see today. Even I have noticed this change in Disney Channel; over the years, the
actors sizes have gone from a 10 to a 2. For example, the shows I used to watch included actresses like
Raven Symone and more recent shows, like Shake It Up, include actresses such as Bella Thorne and
Zendaya. Young girls are constantly seeing and comparing themselves

HIV Treatments and Reducing Drug Resistance Essay
HIV Treatments and Reducing Drug Resistance
Abstract
HIV is a retrovirus that will constantly attack human s immune system once an individual is infected
and will eventually develop to AIDS, often a deadly sexually transmitted disease. Currently, there are
different kinds of antiretroviral treatments available for patients who are tested to be HIV positive as
well as patients with AIDS. HIV can easily develop resistance to its treatment through mutation each
generation, which leads to ineffectiveness in treatment. The only way to continue to fight off HIV is to
change treatment that is still available. Patients have to cooperate with experienced doctors by
adhering to their professional recommendations, while doctors are responsible ... Show more content

However, as HIV attack the immune system over time, AIDS will eventually develop. No one has ever
died from HIV infection, however, a person can die anytime when AIDS has developed in the body.
When a person has AIDS, the immune system no longer has the ability to fight against minor
infections such as bacteria, fungi or viruses that are usually not disease causing. AIDS patients can get

since their T cells are almost eliminated in the immune system due to constant HIV attack (AIDS.org,

the T cells in the immune system and to help the immune system to restore the ability to fight against
infection (AIDS.org, 2005). From the perspective of the medical profession, HIV/AIDS specialized
and experienced doctors have to be predominantly attentive on the HIV patients health conditions and
their test results in order to correctly recommend when the patients should change their treatments to

Comparing Tulip s Obsession With Adversity
I think each of these books were infused with the problem of adversity. Moving around the states,

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 Though one might say video games have no value in today s society,
technology is one of the most useful tools for children today. Video games can help to connect a
person to their character through the actions they cause or the changes they make. It s very easy for
someone to connect to a world through a character s eyes completely controlled by them. The idea of
virtual reality is a very useful tool to help teach people how to work in the real world. However, Call
of Duty is not one of those tools. To begin with a description for the game, Call of Duty is a first
person, war like battle simulation game. The player is given the choice of multiple game types that
will either involve working as a team or on their own to complete a mission. The objective will range
anywhere from taking out the enemy team to destroying a bomb site. Some examples of game modes
would be: Capture the Flag, Team Deathmatch, Free for All, Domination, or Hardpoint. The players
have the ability to choose any type of playstyle that fits them comfortably. Players have a large arsenal
to procure weapons from. The guns all show statistics of range, accuracy, damage, and speed. The

The Latest Cycle Of Trade Negotiations
Introduction The Doha Development Agenda, referred to as the Doha Round, is the latest cycle of
trade negotiations among World Trade Organization member governments and was officially launched
at the WTO s Fourth Ministerial Conference in Doha, Qatar, in November 2011. Following eight
rounds of multilateral trade talks since World War II, the Doha Round is the first that is explicitly
geared toward facilitating the induction of developing countries into the global market and
effectuating economic growth as a result. Bullet points on the agenda include reductions in tariffs and
farm subsidies, as well as liberalizing trade in services through lowering taxes and regulatory barriers
that impede cross border trade in services such as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This essay will clarify these misconceptions that have impeded the progress of the Doha Round.
Developing Countries Can Benefit From Their Own Reforms A prominent misconception is that trade
liberalisation in rich countries harm the growth of agricultural industries in developing countries.
Essentially, agricultural industries in developing countries suffer due to Europe depressing the world
price while keeping out efficient suppliers such as Brazil and Thailand, and also it destroys prospects
for some of the least developed countries (LDCs) such as Mozambique (Oxfam, 2002). Import
Barriers Discourage Exports Barriers to trade in developing countries can hinder their economic
growth by inducing disincentives to export. Tariffs on imports create a bias against exports by
lowering the domestic relative price of exports, changing wages and rental rates that are absorbed by
the export sector, and increasing the cost of imported intermediate inputs used by export sectors
(Tockarick, 2006). Hence, import protection can function as

Changing Time In High School
A problem with changing the time that schools starts is parent work schedules. When school starts at
7:30, most parents can see their kids before they go to school. If that time was changed, most parents
won t be able to still drive their kids to school and get to work on time. A main a problem for parents
of young children, who need supervision while getting ready for school and waiting for the bus. For
teenagers, later starting time may lead to more responsibility such as getting themselves up on their
own and getting their own breakfast.
Another issue is bus schedules and other transportation. Lots of school districts use the same buses to
get the elementary and high school students. Delayed school times would affect this because if the
same bus driver drops students off at the high school and then has to pick up elementary school
students. Schools would have to delay both high school times and all elementary schools times or

In PL, Dupin s known logic of how people act leads him to the letter. In both stories, Dupin makes fun
of the ways police use routine investigative procedures that do not help them find any clues or

headed they are and how they lack the analytical abilities to figure things out. In both stories, Dupin is
the detective who interferes with the thick headed police and easily solves the cases with brilliance.
These stories are being told through the use of a companion as narrator, while he follows the detective

Ring Species Evolution
Many geneticists believe that all current life stems from one common ancestor in a tree of life fashion.
Over millions of years, this process of speciation has created numerous kinds of creatures, many of
which we are still discovering today. For instance, a rare phenomenon, occuring only in particular
environments, was dubbed as a ring species by scientists Ernst Mayr and Theodosius Dobzhansky and
may help to create this great biodiversity (Pereira Wake, 2015). When a species becomes separated
and can no longer interbreed, the gene flow between these two populations discontinue, which leads to
the development of two entirely different species (Martins de Aguiar, 2017). Researchers have
documented this extraordinary event, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
B. Martins, M. A. M. de Aguiar, and Y. Bar Yam created a simulation to compare calculated
information to the actual evidence found from different greenish warbler forms. They discovered that,
while ring species may be volatile, they can occur for long lengths of time and often match computed
data from their model. Furthermore, they also questioned how each factor influenced the growth and
strength of a ring species. They determined that many elements, particularly the range of species area,
species dependent traits, and geographical features, affect the overall stability and efficiency of
speciation (Martins, de Aguiar, and Bar Yam, 2013). Multiple components having a significant impact
on ring species explains the unstable nature of these scenarios and their rarity. Nonetheless, studying
these less than ideal examples proves that speciation can transpire without the adherence to strict
conditions and also might insist that the definition of a ring species be broadened to encompany more

Coal Seam Gas
Coal seam gas (CSG) is mostly composed of methane and is typically attached to coal underground.
This gas is released when pressure on the coal seam is reduced by removing water from the seams
(Queensland Government, 2014 ). In order to obtain the gas, wells are drilled into the coal seams,
bringing water from the coal seams to the surface. This process reduces pressure and allows the gas to
be released (Queensland Government, 2014 ). CSG is an important energy resource in Queensland and
production of this gas takes up an ever increasing proportion of Queensland gas use. Almost every
farmer in Queensland depends at times on underground water. The effect of CSG extraction using
underground fracturing on underground water is not clear. Basic sets of impacts that are broadly well
understood are that aquifer levels will sink dramatically and will depressurise. It also risks
groundwater contamination and the salt that is present in the water of coal seams will be brought to
the surface as well, in a quantity of about 1.8 million tonnes of salt per year (ABC, 2010). There are
several types of water contamination that are possible. One is through the injection of chemicals
through the fracking processes, which will go underground and can travel to nearby water systems that
are in use (Gasfield Free Northern Rivers, 2014). Another is through chemicals that naturally exist in
coal seams being taken out of the coal seams and exposed to other the various water systems nearby.

The word centroid means like a center . It is like a center because the centroid of an object is the
center of mass or the balance point. A centroid is also one of the points of concurrency of a triangle. In
addition, a centroid is like a circumcenter and is located on the inside of the triangle where the
perpendicular bisectors of a triangle intersect. Furthermore, the centroid of a triangle is made up of the
intersection of three medians and the division of a centroid and a median makes a ratio of 2:1. In other

How New Technologies Impacted The Purchasing Habits Of The...
The rapid growth in technological capability, accessibility and usability during recent memory is
undeniable: in January 2015, almost 42% of the world s population had access to the internet, there
were 2.08 billion active social media accounts worldwide, mobile cellular internet penetration was on
an all time high with approximately 3 billion unique mobile users, including more than 70%

Music During the Vietnam War Essay
In the nineteen sixties almost half of the American population were young adults. Because of this, the
sixties were an age of youth and there was a generation gap that America had never seen before. Many
of the baby boomers were at risk of being drafted into the Vietnam War. This war brought on
revolutionary and innovative ways of thinking. The young people of this decade wanted change and
this brought a huge difference in culture from the conservative fifties. Inspiration for many of the
songs and lyrics of the time came from the Vietnam War. The war caused many people to protest and
speak out about it. The main genres people used to show their attitudes about the current war were
folk and rock.

The Folk music scene was often connected with the hippy movement because of its calming and peace
promoting disposition. Many of the songs were about dodging the draft, wanting peace, and the power
of the people. This music brought people together in an anti violent way. Folk music was huge in New
York throughout the sixties and later moved to Los Angeles. People filled the seats of cafes and
lounges listening and singing along to the folk singers. . . . folk musicians addressed contemporary
issues facing college students, notably civil rights and, later, the Vietnam War (American Decades).
Bob Dylan was a pioneer of the antiwar movement. He opened a new section of music and inspired
millions. Although he wasn t the best singer in the traditional sense, his lyrics were what moved
people. For example in Man on the Street , Bob Dylan tells of the human suffering that is caused by

When you look at the world today you see all the factory´s, manufacturing, and technology all around

iron plows. John Deere made the steel plow to cut through that soil for more farming land. Another
invention was the mechanical reaper. This made farming faster by having the crops mechanically

Investigating The Effect Of Acid Base Indicator On The...
Introduction In analytical chemistry, there are numerous methods that can be utilized in order to
analyze different substances by determining the composition or concentration of a said substance,
which is the main goal (Analytical Chemistry, n.d.). One of those methods available, and used widely
in analytical chemistry, is spectroscopy. Spectroscopy utilizes the quantification of light; which is
based upon intensity, amount absorbed, and amount transmitted, in order to determine the
concentration of a given substance (Vo, 2016). For the following lab, the main goal is to determine the
pKa of an acid base indicator by means of spectroscopy. There are numerous types of spectrometers
that can be utilized for the purpose of this lab; the one utilized for this lab is the Spec20D. An acid
base indicator is a substance that is added to s solution and indicates pH change by means of changing
colors. For example, bromocresol green is an acid base indicator, which is a monoprotic organic acid
with a molecular weight of 698.02 g/mol. The absorbance of the indicator solution will be tested over
a range of wavelengths utilizing the protonated form to determine the wavelength of highest
absorbance; then the same tests will be conducted, but when the indicator is in the deprotonated form.
Lastly, the tests will be conducted with both species present, utilizing the wavelengths derived from
the first two tests. The data will then be plotted and the pKa can then be derived. For the

corporations in America. It has become one of America s most successful retail chains by offering
everyday goods at low prices for middle and lower class families. Even with all of its financial
success, the company cannot open a store without dealing with an abundance of protest groups.
Walmart always overcomes these groups, but nonetheless there is always opposition against them.
Walmart has had a reputation for unfair labor practices by refusing unionization, offering really low
wages, and discrimination. The protest groups defend local store owners, the environment, employee
salaries, and discrimination against various minority groups. Walmart displays an image of being
charitable and giving back to the community, but they are responsible for unjust and discriminating
actions in the United States. To maintain its low cost strategy, Walmart has been involved in ethically
questionable practices, including gender discrimination in promotion and pay. While the Supreme
Court recently ruled against class certification of 1.5 million women in the Dukes v. Walmart case due
to a lack of proof that Walmart operated under a general policy of discrimination , there is much
evidence that shows that gender discrimination is still a problem rooted in the culture of Walmart,
despite gender neutral policies (Biskupic, 2011). During the 1950 s and 60 s in northwest Arkansas, a

Essay Richard Nixon and the Watergate Scandal
June 17th, 1972 would be a day America would never forget it was the start of one of the largest
scandals in our government. Richard Nixon was president of the United States and the people trusted
him. However this trust would be betrayed, as he got involved in something now known as the
Watergate Scandal. This was an interesting time in history because it was a large cover up by the
Republican Party. Also, how different people reacted to this event was fascinating because some
people were so blind to the truth, that they stuck behind Nixon even once tapes and other credible
evidence against him was produced. In this paper I will describe the events of Watergate and the
publics opinion and reactions to this lengthy Scandal that corrupted ... Show more content on

Mr. Hunt has disappeared.1 The connection between Nixon and the scandal was undeniable, as the
investigations continued to happen more and more information was revealed, and the tie between the
burglary and the Republican Party grew. The five men who had been arrested had been found with
bugging and eavesdropping devices, different types of cameras and around $5,000 dollars all in big
bills. The money has now been traced. It turns out to be part of $114,000 which found its way from the
Nixon headquarters to the Miami bank account of Bernard L. Barker, one of the five men arrested at
the Watergate.1 Journalists were writing up a storm during this time, finding more and more ways to
peg this on the Republican Party and Nixon, making them have no way out besides admitting they
were guilty. Despite denying that they had no way of knowing how that money got to Mr. Barker, the
people had no other choice then to believe them guilty, stirring up more problems for Nixon s
committee. From reading the articles that were published in the newspapers during this time, it seems
as though that the people were captivated by what was happening and disgusted with the outright
denial that the Republican Party lawyers and spokesmen were sticking too. It is now clear that
Republican denials of responsibility for the sinister Watergate espionage case issued from the White
house down

Lies In Huckleberry Finn
In today s society, lying has become a thing that happens almost every hour, of every day. There are
some people that believe lying is wrong, and there are other people that believe isn t always wrong
and that it can be good in some situations. In the book, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, many
lies occur. The lies that occur are both good and bad lies, and they occur because Mark Twain is trying
to get the message out that lying is happening all the time even if you do not know it is happening. But
what exactly is the difference between a good and a bad lie? A good lie is considered a lie that you tell
in order to help yourself or someone else out. It could be to save there life, or it could to stop them
from having to go home to their

Mute, Motionless, and Beautiful
Gunda, Divya s four year old son was playing in the living room happily. He looked at his mother
again and again. She looked different like she was getting ready to go out. He liked going out not just
with her but anybody per se. Sometimes he would just cry in a high pitch tone until the concerned
person would agree. Of course there won t be any tears. Everybody knew he would just throw dry
tantrums. When he was angry, he would bite everyone around him and smash things. When he was in
a happy mood, he was like a sweet boy. Give him whatever he would want, then he would kiss you all
the time. He was playing with his toys until Divya put on her shoes. Then he ran and chained her right
leg with cute little hands. ``Mom, I want to come with you. ``I am not going anywhere. ``You are
lying. Then why are you looking so pretty? Why are you wearing this saree. I know this saree is for
special occasion. Divya told him the truth that she was getting ready to see the doctor. she was 8
months pregnant. She wanted to take him with her. But she did not know how long it would take.
Sometimes it would take hours when hospital was filled with patients. She was afraid that he would
fall asleep and it would be difficult to carry him. So she told him that if he accompanied her, then the
doctor would give him injection. ``I know doctor will give you injection not me. He thought for a
while and replied. ``Why would doctor give me injection? I am a big girl. Doctors give

Eric Foner Analysis
The juxtaposition Eric Foner creates between Stephen A. Douglas s, popular sovereignty and Lincoln
s absolutist ideology, demonstrations that the issue of slavery will ultimately transform the political
atmosphere for years to come. According to Foner, both Lincoln and Douglas disagree on the account
of the intentions of the founding fathers right to local self government . Douglas contributed a long
article to Harper s New Monthly Magazine, in which he states that the doctrine of popular sovereignty
is derived from the founder s commitment to Local self government . Potentially under popular
sovereignty, a few voting men could change the outcome of slavery in the American Territories
repealing the longstanding, Missouri Compromise. However,

What Is The Symbols In A Clean Well Lighted Place
A Clean Well Lighted Place is a short story written by Ernest Hemingway. The story is about three
men that always spend the night in the cafe. Two men as a waiter and an old man that always come to
drink in the cafe. The old man and old waiter like to stay until late at night yet the younger waiter
doesn t like to stay until late night because he wants to leave as soon as possible to meet with his wife.
In the story, Hemingway tries to combine the symbols and characters together. Hemingway uses the
symbols to symbolize the characteristic of the characters in his story.
The first symbol that Hemingway shows in his story is the cafe. Actually the story is took place in the

He uses the light and shadow to know the characteristic of those characters in his story. Shadow is a
little bit of light because without light, there is no shadow. In this story, Hemingway uses light and
shadow to symbolize the happiness and despair. It was late and every one had left the cafe except the
old man who sat in the shadow the leaves of the tree made against the electric light. (Hemingway,
1987, page 288) and The old man sitting in the shadow rapped on his saucer with his glass.
(Hemingway, 1987, page 288) The two quotations explain about the old man that likes to stay behind
the shadow and against the electric light. Shadow means despair. It can highlight that the old man
wants to show his despair. Every night he likes to stay behind the

  • 2. How Did Civilization Affect The Development Of Civilization Beginning in approximately 3500 BCE through the peak of the PErsian empire in 200 s BCE, humans living together created order and structure in natural, human, and built environment systems. The development of writing systems, religious systems, and economic systems led to the growth of civilization and empire. Writing systems affected the growth of civilization because it developed understanding between people. In 3500 BCE, a writing system was created in the Sumerian culture. It was called cuneiform, the sumerians recorded their writing on rocks. The language helped to better trade, laws, and storytelling. Typically, it helped stories stay factual when passed down through generations. Shorty after the language was created, men discovered math. The Persian people based their writing on the arabic alphabet, but they too used cuneiform to communicate. The cuneiform language spread to tribes and different tribes, making it easier for trade. • 3. The Human Soul And The Soul s Salvation In his letter to the priest, Sixtus, Augustine claims that ...when [humans] suppose that free choice is taken away if they agree that a human being cannot have a good will without the help of God, they do not understand that they do not strengthen human choice... he establishes one of the most debated concepts of the Reformation period: The human soul cannot save its self. This idea of Soteriology, expressed in his Letter 194 presents only one side of the argument. On the other side of the spectrum of soteriological ideology was Pelagius s argument that to be just in God s sight, a person must be pure in both body and heart. Through the use of Augustine s Letter 194 as well as Pelagius s Letter to Demetrias I will first summarize each author s argument on how much of a role human free will can contribute to the immortal soul s salvation. Then I will explain why both sides of the argument appealed to large groups, and why each view point remained debated all the way into the Reformation period. Before either argument can be dissected however, some issues with the sources must be addressed. Firstly, Pelagius s text Letter to Demetrias has been translated from its original language into English. Pelagius was very learned in both Latin and Greek, meaning that the original text was probably written in one of these languages. The translation into English means that there was an opportunity for error, and for details to get lost. It is also known that Pelagius was an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Soon, in Physical Education, we were going to start our swimming unit. The more athletic kids loved this; needless to say, I didn t, and for one reason and one reason only; I never learned how to swim. When the day of the first swimming unit started, I felt scared, or perhaps that s my present emotions getting in the way of my past emotions. We entered the locker room and equipped ourselves with our swimming apparel and exited to the room with the pool. I could smell the chlorine in the air. Everyone in my class was seated on a large steel bench and divided into groups; Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced. Surprisingly enough, I was placed into the Intermediate group with two of my aforementioned friends. I felt a weird sense of pride as I walked past the others waiting to be assigned to a group with my new colleagues. Once everyone was assigned to a group, my group s instructor yelled out, Alright, get in the water and hold onto the side! We did as we told, but what I didn t know was that the height of the water in that area of the pool was greater than mine. Next, he barked, Alright, we re gonna swim to the deep end and back! It was one of many novels published in the nineteenth and twentieth century, based on Big House life in Ireland. Bowen herself is critical of the Anglo Irish gentry as she believes that they are responsible for the downfall in the society. The denial of their predicament and also their refusal to except change had caused Bowen to be censorious of them. She expresses her points of symbolism, imagery and characterization using a variety of tactful techniques. In the analysis these factors and techniques will be discussed in greater detail. In her life deprived as she saw it there was no occasion for courage, which like an unused muscle slackened and slept (Bowen., E, p33, 1998) Another point which suggests Lois is lost and confused is the fact that often spends time walking outside the boundaries of the house which symbolizes her need to escape from this façade, the so called birthright of her generation. • 14. The As A Metaphor For The State Of A Nation Essay In what ways does the figure of the child serve as a metaphor for the state of a nation? In China s quest for modernity, the figure of the child transcended its biological definition. It took on a symbolic metaphorical form of rejuvenation used to revitalize the state of a nation facing extinction. After the Opium Wars, Chinese intellectuals had started to become aware of China s weakness on the world stage. By 1900, defeat in the Sino Japanese War, the failure of the Boxer Rebellion and the humiliating treaties that followed, made it clear to all. The old empire was in decline with the inadequacies of tradition exposed. A critique of the Confucian Doctrine, had begun. China needed to rejuvenate, rewriting the weaknesses of the old empire into a youthful nation. The questioning of nationhood coincided with a rising class of literati learning outside of China. Those such as Liang Qichao, believed that the huge gap between China and the West was not because of race but different educational systems within which, the education of children was vital. Ideas of Social Darwinism and the survival of the nation spread, furthering the symbolism of the child through the prism of the nation. There are many things which can influence a test s validity, such as: how the content relates to the construct being measured; rater response processes, item relationships within the scales; as well as external variables (Cohen Swerdlik, 2009). Validity includes measurements of criterion related validity which encompasses both predictive validity and concurrent validity. These serve to show validity in the area of prediction (Cohen Swerdlik, 2009). Further, convergent validity is utilized to establish a relational validity when more than two assessments are used through showing a convergence which proves each is measuring the same construct (Cohen Swerdlik, 2009). Proficiency in the different methods of testing with respect to the technical aspect of assessment is a requirement of administering and analyzing an assessment competently (Krishnamurthy et al., 2004). In order to effectively select and implement psychological testing, one must have a thorough understanding of the intended purpose of the assessment and further, how to decipher the results (Cohen Swerdlik, 2009). Import Barriers Discourage Exports Barriers to trade in developing countries can hinder their economic growth by inducing disincentives to export. Tariffs on imports create a bias against exports by lowering the domestic relative price of exports, changing wages and rental rates that are absorbed by the export sector, and increasing the cost of imported intermediate inputs used by export sectors (Tockarick, 2006). • 32. Coal Seam Gas Coal seam gas (CSG) is mostly composed of methane and is typically attached to coal underground. This gas is released when pressure on the coal seam is reduced by removing water from the seams (Queensland Government, 2014 ). In order to obtain the gas, wells are drilled into the coal seams, bringing water from the coal seams to the surface. This process reduces pressure and allows the gas to be released (Queensland Government, 2014 ). CSG is an important energy resource in Queensland and production of this gas takes up an ever increasing proportion of Queensland gas use. Almost every farmer in Queensland depends at times on underground water. The effect of CSG extraction using underground fracturing on underground water is not clear. Basic sets of impacts that are broadly well understood are that aquifer levels will sink dramatically and will depressurise. It also risks groundwater contamination and the salt that is present in the water of coal seams will be brought to the surface as well, in a quantity of about 1.8 million tonnes of salt per year (ABC, 2010). There are several types of water contamination that are possible. One is through the injection of chemicals through the fracking processes, which will go underground and can travel to nearby water systems that are in use (Gasfield Free Northern Rivers, 2014). One of those methods available, and used widely in analytical chemistry, is spectroscopy. Spectroscopy utilizes the quantification of light; which is based upon intensity, amount absorbed, and amount transmitted, in order to determine the concentration of a given substance (Vo, 2016). For the following lab, the main goal is to determine the pKa of an acid base indicator by means of spectroscopy. There are numerous types of spectrometers that can be utilized for the purpose of this lab; the one utilized for this lab is the Spec20D. An acid base indicator is a substance that is added to s solution and indicates pH change by means of changing colors.
