Marine Biology Lab Report
6.There are various types of experiments and observations a Marine Biologist can do with SCUBA.
They can experience the environment they are studying and see how the organisms interact in their
natural habitat. They are also able to stay underwater for longer periods of time, which gives them
more time to study how organisms interact and their surroundings. However, there are limitations
for what scientists can do with SCUBA. The limitations that the beginning scientists encountered
included the coldness of the ocean, and the depths they were able to reach with the equipment they
possessed. The constraints marine biologists today face include studying the oceans would be the
depth of the dive and the pressure of the depths. 7.The first

A frozen, yummy treat on a hot, sunny day can be fun and easy to make. I was watching a video
on YouTube about making popsicles. You are about to learn how to make a popsicle and what
you ll need to make your yummy treat. First, an empty cup, juice of your choice, plastic wrap,
and popsicle sticks. To begin, pour the juice in the cup. Leave space at the top empty. Next, take
enough plastic wrap to fold over the cup. Tape down the sides of the plastic wrap to the sides of
the cup. Finally, gently poke the popsicle stick into the plastic wrap and into the drink. You can
tape the part of the popsicle stick sticking out to the plastic wrap. To continue, put your popsicle in
the freezer. Juice usually takes 2 to 4 hours to freeze in a

When we enter the world of Andrzej Sapkowski we were captivated with the visual quality of the
surroundings and the perfect modeling of all the characters and creatures, especially The White
Wolf (Geralt of Rivia). The quality of the textures, dynamics processing work and the perfect
implementation of all elements provide a living world around us that will leave us captivated. This

It is incredibly shocking and galling to see the incredible design of the physical context in which
we live.
You can go riding on a plain to gradually go deeper into a thick forest with giant trees that at one
point, block any sunshine. I found that the random encounters and events with people and monsters
in the open world were just as fulfilling as the main story.
I am happy to say that this kind of magical moments are more frequent in The Witcher 3 of what
many might think. Every plant, every bush, every stream, every swamp and every ravine, has a
purpose to be, leaving very clear the huge attention to detail that was put into this aspect of the
game. No, you will not get bored at any time the environment you have to explore, because its
elements will feel organic and mutating as your story progresses. In general, I can say that explore
every centimeter of the world that presents Wild Hunt, is a true delight.

Civil War Dbq Analysis
Over 182,000 texans are slaves (Doc A), and it could all be changed by one war. Many of the
texans involved in the Civil War didn t have it easy. Between 12,000 and 15,000 texans died just
due to the wars fighting and disease (BK). There was even a miniature fighti inside Texas
debating over the Kansas Nebraska Act. A man, John Brown, was so angry he tried to start a slave
uprising and attack the federal arsenal. A now nervous nation held its breath, waiting for the next
move to play out (BK). At one time Texashad had enough of the rights, slavery, and laws that they
left the Union for good. Texans fought in the war so they could have states rights, enjoy their
love for Texas, and keep slavery. Texans fought in the civil war because of states rights. States
rights means a state gets to choose if they want to follow something or not. Texas really enjoyed it
s freedom, but still wanted to be apart of the United States(Doc C). Also, no matter how hard you
tried, no state upon its own mere motion could lawfully get out of the Union (Doc C). Many
people who lived in Texas were furious about this, because they felt like they couldn t do anything
without permission from the Union. Overall, states rights were a definite part in why Texans fought

Advantages Of Genetically Modified Crops
The Advantages of GMO crops Genetically modified crops have shorter maturation periods,
meaning they can be harvested much faster and in shorter intervals. Therefore farmers can
produce more crops in shorter time frames and increase their profitability Genetically modified
crops make agriculture more sustainable. Due to the short maturation periods, soil salinity
decreases as the crops don t spend as long taking nutrients and minerals out of the soil.
Genetically modified crops are made to be better/improved and carry strong genes for certain
favourable characteristics. This allows for higher quality crops to be produced. They have
resistance to diseases and viruses, herbicides and pesticides. There is an increased yield in the...

believe that by inserting genes of another species into crops the taste and physical characteristics
will change/differ. Genetically modified crops cost a lot more to produce; more than expected
therefore some farmers are against it. There is an increased use of pesticides and herbicides due
to herbicide resistance in the genetically modified crops which is harmful to the environment
therefore people do not support GM crops. People believe that GM organisms are unnatural and
for that reason are unsafe. There has not been enough testing done on genetically modified

The Nature of a Mistress-Servant Relationship in Daniel...
Relationships play a large part in the average modern day person s everyday life, just as
relationships were important in the past. Although types of companionships have somewhat
changed over time, the presence and importance of them still remains. Viewing, analysing and
comparing other individual s relationships to our own is something most people do, as a sort of
assurance that things are natural. This is why many people are interested in novels about ways that
other human beings interact with individuals and groups. Daniel Defoes character Roxana has her
own way of interacting with and manipulating people. In his novelRoxana, Defoe uses examples of
extreme faithfulness from the Amy to demonstrate the intimate relationship present... Show more

At the start of the novel, Roxana gives Amy the task of abandoning her children. Amy performs
this task without asking any questions, as a loyal servant of friend should. The children are
only brought back into the novel when Roxana realizes that one of her daughters is living in her
home as a cook maid. Amy is again given the task of dealing with her mistress s children. She
dresses up and visits them, giving them money on their mother s part, while careful not to reveal
the secret about Roxana. When one of the children figures out who her mother is, Amy kills her
against Roxana s wishes. This goes to show how loyal she is: even though she disobeyed her
mistress, she treated the incident as if the daughter had wronged her, rather than Roxana. This
may just be what the murder is about Amy has been close to Roxana for so long, sharing the
secret identity, that it has almost become her own secret in many ways. Her choice of words she
ll ruin us all (272) (using us instead of you ) shows that she feels as much in trouble as her
mistress; on the other hand, her loyalty is still evident when she tells Roxana: I ll put you out of
your Pain, and her too (273). Amy is obviously thinking about preventing her mistress from
suffereing, more than she is thinking about herself. Amy again takes on the family when she
confronts Roxana s first husband. She finds out all there is to know and reports back to her
mistress, as she does in many cases.

Abortion Executive Branch
The purpose of this American government research paper is to discuss the topic of abortion and
how it relates to the three branches of the American government. This essay will research the
Executive, Judicial and Legislative branches. I will use research from sources to cover how this
topic plays out in the government along with its effects on the American people. The US Federal
Government has dealt with abortionby different facts between the Executive Branch, the Judicial
Branch, and the Legislative Branch. Abortion is a process that terminates pregnancy. The
decisions that the government are trying to put in play are hard because everyone has different
views on abortions. While, the Supreme Court s, the laws, and the president all are trying to
reduce abortion, it is like taking away from another life that is being created. Still, until this day
they are still trying to have decisions on abortions. It remains a relevant topic on major news
stations and as recently with attacks at a Planned Parenthood.

Analysis Of Doing Wrong To Make It Right By Erdrich And Enger
Doing Wrong to Make It Right
Erdrich and Enger address the matter of vigilante justice in many places within their individual
novels, nevertheless Erdrich suggests that Joe had no other option but to take down Linden Lark
on his own, whereas Enger proposes Davy Land could have used other resources to get justice for
his family from Israel Finch and Tommy Basca. In Both Peace Like a River and The Round
House the authors suggest law enforcement, family bond and protection, intolerance, and freedom
all explain why Davy Land and Joe Coutts along with Cappy would feel compelled to kill the
antagonists in these stories. Although what Davy and Joe did was illegal, they did it for the
wellbeing of their families, was it justified for both characters, or was there different avenues they

She sees the conflict between civilization and savagery as an endless, eternal and everlasting
struggle. The civilization is like the colonizer, the master always trying to restrain every natural
powerful impulse to bring it under the control of certain codified rules, laws and regulations
which symbolize the ordered civilization. The force of wilderness on the other hand always tries
to break free to express itself in a manner which is always incomprehensible to the civilized

We constantly hear the claim that you can t eat healthy on a budget, and to us that s a myth
because a family can eat a healthy diet with fruits and vegetables that meets the Dietary Guidelines

Language And Bias In Language
Language and Bias In New York City, hundreds of languages have been spoken everyday on the
street as a grand representation that we live in a multilingual society. However, within the
multilingual society minority language is often deemed as not useful due to the cultural, social and
economical advantages that dominant languageis able to bring along with it. This explains that why
some of second generation immigrants are unable to speak in their heritage language, because they
or their parents hold this belief. Also, this kind of attitude can be even found in the classroom.
According to Mallinson, Professor of Language, Literacy, and Culture, from University of Maryland
and Hudley, Associate Professor of Education, English, and Linguisticsfrom College of William
Mary, study suggests that teachers might subconsciously or consciously favor students who talk
like them and judge negatively toward students who doesn t. This would discourage that students
from different language background to speak, crate linguistic insecurity and ultimately affect their
academic performance (2017). Additionally, Minority languagescould face challenges related to
governmental power. During the Francisco Franco era, the dictator banned the Catalan language
from speaking in public. Because the dictator wanted to create a Spanish centralized nation.
Prominent Catalan figures were prosecuted; Catalan language in the public education system was
suppressed. As a result,

Social Attitudes Of Freedom And Control By George Orwell...
Despite their unique perspectives and social attitudes of freedom and control, both George Orwell
and Fritz Lang explore issues of class struggle and the impact of technology on humanity through
their medium of choice, expressing these serious concerns by forming a dystopic outlook of the
future world. Lang s science fiction film Metropolis encapsulates the tensions of his wartime
experience, and the political situation of the 1920s Weimer period in Germany, in which Lang
tapped into the country s power struggles, issues of poverty and conflict, as well as the clear
fascination with technological developments, through a heavily stylised futuristic environment.

The workers are depicted in uniform black, trudging in synchronised robotic movements in an
overcrowded environment, which reinforces their lack of identity and alluding to machinery,
their dehumanisation and conformity to the atrocities of the industrialist environment. This is
contrasted with the light shades and wide open spaces above the depths, reflecting the lifestyle
of freedom enjoyed by the members of the upper city in the eternal garden, including the
protagonist Freder. The repeated reference to the Mediator, between the head and the hands
postulates the increasing class struggle in Lang s time. The iris effect on Maria emphasizes her
angelic nature, and adoption of Christian values. As a devout catholic, Lang intended Maria to
adopt notions of equality which are obsolete in the society of Metropolis, the head of the city,
Joh Frederson, possessing a capitalist outlook. He is the embodiment of power over the workers
as suggested by his body posture and stern facial expressions. Moreover, Maria acts as a catalyst
to the Mediator, who is Freder, as suggested by the chiaroscuro lighting on his face in the
catacombs. Freder s actions in the Moloch scene in which he reaches out his hands to help the
workers represents his Christian nature and foreshadows his ability to undo the inequality of class
in which Metropolis has been founded. Similarly, British author George Orwell s Nineteen Eighty
Four (1984) written in 1949 explores a totalitarian society

The Authoritative Parenting And The Style Of The Parenting...
The parenting style that my parents use is definitely authoritative. My parents have shown
authority towards me and my siblings but have always been flexible with their rules. My parents
have never stressed us out by being too strict with their rules. The first question I asked my
parents was, how would you react if one of my siblings or I asked to come home later than you
originally told us to come home? My parents responded that they would ask why we want to
come home later and then tell them they can come home later at a certain time but no later than
the extended time. This fits exactly with the authoritative parenting style because my parents
would extend the time which is being flexible and then also they would enforce a new time for
us to come home which shows authority. Next I asked my parents, what would you do if one of
my siblings or I got in trouble at school? My parents said they would have a talk with whoever
got in trouble and make sure they know not to ever do it again. Also, my parents said they would
discipline whoever got in trouble by doing more chores or taking away their phone for a day.
This fits with the authoritative parenting style as well because my parents are making us
understand what we did wrong and learn from it. They would also give a consequence because of
it but nothing that is too harsh because they trust us to learn from what we did. After that, I asked
my parents, what would your reaction be if I did not do my chores at the house?

Essay On How To Vote
What resource will be most helpful to you as you decide if and how to vote? How can you help

I have really already established a set of values and wants that I would like to be able to see in a
representative, but just as Black wrote about being overcome by the ballot, I also felt I was
unprepared for the long list of elected offices on the ballot. I recognized some of the names on the
ballot, but other than that it was a guessing game. The resources that will be most helpful when I go
to vote again will be learning more about each candidate and their positions, learning actual
government offices and what the job entails, and creating a priority list. During the next election

We have to remember that politics are complex and the government has already solved the easy
problems and we must accept the complexity of the process, Black says. By knowing this we can

The government depends on compromise and the ability for each representative to not only
express their views but listen to others who oppose them. We must learn to listen to our
neighbors to be able to create a society that is great in the eyes of God. One must be prepared to
debate over issues they believe are right and wrong, but never stray away from your own personal
beliefs and values just because someone does not agree. Black says to look outside of politics to
help address problems such as in your church or in your family. She says, Model Christian values
in your family, and set a positive example for others (Black 197). She states that we should honor
and respect your public officials because most are dedicated public servants trying to do their best
to make a difference. Finally, Black says instead of criticizing political leaders we do not agree

Imagining the Future in Iraq Essay
Imagining the Future in Iraq
The future of Iraq remains unclear. There are those who have tried to categorize the current conflict
as the next Vietnam. Others have dubbed it the next Afghanistan, and others still see a future for
Iraq unlike any seen in history. In the midst of all this speculation, one thing is certain: eventually,
the US military must withdraw from occupied Iraq. As a matter of history, occupation does not last
unless there is a concomitant colonization and/or a significant population influx. Since the latter is
absent from the current situation in Iraq, it holds that an eventual American military withdrawal is
inevitable.
Interestingly enough, the U.S. s divide and conquer method, i.e. one which attempts ... Show more

Just as in George Orwell s 1984, where the government was in the business of tampering with public
records to push their agenda, so too is the current administration sugar coating the truth with
falsehood and deceptively harming the American public by keeping them in the dark. Wouldn t it
be ironic though if Iraq managed, as in Iran, to take over the American Embassy and declare the
independence of its own theocratic state?
The current situation does after all mirror Iran s prior to the Revolution of 1979 in several ways.
The United States s presence was one that encouraged the political repression of those against the
established power in Iran and does the same today in Iraq. Further, Shias, who constitute sixty
percent of the Iraqi population and almost all of Iran s, tend to gather more than Sunnis in large
groups during such mourning holidays as Ashura and Arba een, and so have a ritual means of
gathering en masse. Also, just like the thousands of troops the U.S. has stationed around the country,
so too did the Shah employ tens of thousands of SAVAK agents, or secret police, to keep a tight grip
on any potential insurrection. Ultimately, the instability of the mass protests frightened the Shah and
he fled to Egypt shortly afterwards. In Iraq, escalating American deaths and an unstable situation

Prophet Jeremiah Research Paper
The prophet Jeremiah lived during the most critical period of Judah s existence. He saw the
destruction of Jerusalem. God s declared that my people have committed two evils. They have

There is no help for those who have God against them. Jerusalem should have been a center of

So is the plight of today s society, in particular the United States. Woe is the nation that calls good

the God of creation. When promoting homosexual marriages that is defiant of marriage of the bible

that women s right. We know that life begins at conception and only God has a right to take a

Jp Morgan Chase Essay
I chose JP Morgan Chase because they are one of the oldest leading financial institutions within the
Unites States. Their history dated back to over 200 years. This financial institution leads global
financial services with assets totaling approximately $2.5 trillion. They have operations in over 60
countries and an estimated 240,000 employees. JP Morgan Chasealso has stocks in one of the
components of Dow Jones (Morgan). JP Morgan Chase s principles are maintained on how they can
strengthen, provide safety, and continue to grow within their industry now and in the future. Their
focus on these principles is what is predicted to be the best and most respected in the banking
industry. JP Morgan Chase has four main areas that they focus their attention. One area is
exceptional client services. Serving clients is JP Morgan Chase s top priority in which they strive to
exceed their expectations through actively listening to their clients (Morgan). They offer their
clients high quality and competitive product pricing as well as great services. They are also field

became increasingly upset due to this matter, causing JP Morgan Chase s productivity to suffer

Differences Of Fear In Once Upon A Time By Nadine Gordimer
Omphalophobia is the fear of belly buttons. Strange thing is, we are all connected through those
bizarre digs in the middle of our stomachs. Everyone grew and came from the same place, cut
from the same cord. A lot of times no one remembers this, and they strike out against each other,
or hide from each other in fear, because of skin color or religion. Fear is something that inhabits
all of us. Writhing underneath our skin just waiting to find a reason to be unleashed. This feeling
can be used in different ways, bringing everyone together, or tearing people from civilization. In
the same way, the written works Once Upon a Time , A Quilt of a Country and The Vietnam Wall
show the contrast between these two types of fear.
In the story Once Upon a Time written by Nadine Gordimer, fear is a concept that dictates the
leading characters thoughts and actions. The husband and wife that are supposedly living happily
ever after, have built a wall around their house to keep out the raids and the burglars that had
roamed the suburbian streets they lived on at night. Fear is what led this family to destruction,
killing their son and handing them misery and the knowledge that the wall they put up, didn t save
them from anything. If the husband and wife hadn t listened to the wise old witch and her warning
and left their house uncaged, and accessible to everyone else, their son might still be alive and
unburdened by the rest of the world and the fear that controlled

Gender Equality In Nazi Germany
At the turn of the twentieth century, a new representation of the female race was beginning to
emerge in German society. The was primarily a result of the brutal impact of WWI on the
population of men in Germany. They had suffered immense loss of life and nearly drained their
supply of young men because so many had died in the war. Meanwhile, German women had
been forced to fill in the gaps in the labor force. While the men were off in battle, they would do
the jobs that men would normally be doing. Consequently, many women became accustomed to
working, being paid, and excelling in their careers. This gave way for the emergence of
petitioning for other women s rights such as women s suffrage, equal pay, and other
emancipations. Women began challenging fashion norms and breaking the stigma that a
woman s purpose was limited to the family and home. However, as veterans began to return from
war, they began to reclaim their old jobs, women were laid off, and although progress had been
made, there was (and still is) a long way to go in order to achieve true equality. Things began to
slide back to the way they were, and with the enabling of the Third Reich any ideas of gender
equality came crashing down completely. This is not to say that women were viewed as useless or
worthless in Nazi Germany. It was quite the contrary. Women were a crucial part of Hitler s plan
to expand the Aryan race to maximum capacity. Women were exalted and celebrated on all kinds of
propaganda

Abusive Domestic Relationship Defence
According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics half of the female victims of domestic violence
experience more than one incident of abuse (Australian Bureau of Statistics, 2013). In
Queensland using spousal abuse as a defence to murder can be problematic for female
defendants who kill their abusers. Jurors in most cases relating to spousal abuse tend to find the
act of pre emptive killing in self defence not justifiable. Queensland s Criminal Code should be
amended to allow the Abusive Domestic Relationship Defence to be used as a full defence. This
can be proven as victims of violencetend to lack the ability to make logical decisions; individuals
feel a case of entrapment and the victim signals violence and acts before the onset of abuse.... Show

In R v. Runjanjic and Kontinnen (1991), Chief Justice King explained the effects of Battered
Woman Syndrome ; a theory which is used to invoke why women kill their abusive partners
their (women) reactions and responses differ from those which might be expected by persons
who lack the advantage of an acquaintance (Lenore Walker, 2012). Walker argues that the
syndrome would influence the abused individual to make decisions which appear illogical to a
typical person. A common person would leave an abusive relationship rather than kill for self
preservation, whilst the syndrome would influence the victim to kill. In the case R v. Runjanjic
and Kontinnen (1991) the loss of this ability is clear as the defendant s lawyer claimed , Though
she doesn t consciously remember her decision making process, Kontinnen grabbed a shotgun and
shot Hill in the back of the head (Bradfield, 2011). The fact that Kontinnen cannot remember what
caused her to make the decision to kill the deceased displays the effect violence has had on her
mental health. Defendants using the defence of Killing for preservation in an abusive relationship
should have the opportunity for a full acquittal, as their damaged mind takes control of their decision

Why We Need The TSA Essay
After the events of 09/11/2001 the Department of Homeland security was founded and within the
department fell a new agency known as the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). The TSA
was instructed to secure all modes of transportation and they committee was instructed that they
wanted to see result soon. Additionally the Aviation and Transportation Security
Act required the
screening of passengers, cargo and luggage for explosives as the primary priority. Even though the
TSA is charged with the transportation security the primary focus has been Airport security. Long

The current screening method is the body scanner which has been reported on multiple times by
the news as it is consider invasive in nature. The screener is able to see the passenger s nude
image, but software updates have eliminated this providing only detection of metallic and
nonmetallic threats. The prior method of a metal detector which did not alarm staff if
nonmetallic threats existed allowed C 4 explosive (a clay type of explosive) to board the plan.
The body scanners are quicker than the former methods of a pat down , which every passenger
had to endure and were less invasive. This system will be used by the TSA until a better method
is discovered, which will provide faster screening, more privacy to passengers and better detection
of threats. The cost of this has rising over the years but it was the initial setup of the TSA in 2002
which cost the most since there was not an agency within this realm that completed these duties.
Security costs at airports have increased because of Transportation Security Administration
operations. It has also resulted in numerous passenger delays and additional cost. People likely are
spending thousands, if not millions, of hours at airports, which results in loss of productivity.

The Kosta Bros Case Analysis
Question 1 The Kosta Bros Seafood has experienced a series of changes to become one of the
most influential seafood companies in Australia and Southeast Asia. It started with George s
effort as a sole trader when he emigrated from Greece to seek for huge opportunity. In 1950s, his
two brothers came to assist him. They decided to borrow loans from bank while their personal
assets were used as securities. Thus, the partnership was formed as a result of expansion. They
agreed to be individually liable for business s entire debt. In 1980s, Perth was experiencing the
mineral boom and the economy grew tremendously. The Kosta Bros could be able to expand more

shareholders. Thus, an unlisted public company was achieved at this stage . The Board of
Directors would like to change the entity structure from the ambition of penetrating into new
markets and raising more funds. They decided to write down possible issues to be listed on the
Australian Securities Exchange. Question 2 In 1997, the Kosta Bros could be identified as a
large proprietary company. Under CA 2001 s45A (1)*, a proprietary company could be defined
when there are less than 51 non employee shareholders. By 1990, there were 30 shareholders
existing in the company. Also, it did not raise funds from the public since most of the capital
was obtained from the interest bearing debt provided by major banks. Thus, the company was a
proprietary company. When we are evaluating the size of a company using CA 2001 s45A (2)*,
Kosta Bros employed 85 EFT staffs, which were greater than 50*; the gross assets obtained
were $19m, which were greater than $12.5m; the gross operating revenue was $20m, which was
less than $25. When two of three thresholds are achieved, the proprietary company is regarded as
large*. In 2013, the company becomes an unlisted public company because it has 70 shareholders,
which are greater than 51. Due to the ambition of the Board of Directors, the company would like

1.6 POWER SUPPLY:
Power supply is a reference to a source of electrical power. A device or system that supplies
electrical or other types of energy to an output load or group of loads is called a power supply
unit or PSU. The term is most commonly applied to electrical energy supplies, less often to
mechanical ones, and rarely to others. Here in our application we need a 5v DC power supply for
all electronics involved in the project. This requires step down transformer, rectifier, voltage
regulator, and filter circuit for generation of 5v DC power. Here a brief description of all the
components are given as follows:
TRANSFORMER: A transformer is a device that transfers electrical energy from one circuit to
another through inductively coupled conductors

Slavery Impact On Slavery
Transatlantic trade slavery, facilitated by the European powers, is an era of slavery that is often
discussed and is often regarded as the most impactful form of slavery in terms of the number of
people it impacted and the geographical area that it covered. While the Transatlantic slavery trade
is an important topic it is not the only slaverytrade that existed. Ancient slavery in Rome is a topic
worth acknowledging and analyzing. The article Slavery in the Ancient World by A.H.M. Jones, the
article The Bitter Chain of Slavery : Reflections on Slavery in Ancient Romeby Keith Bradley and
Frank M. Snowden, and the article The Roman Slave Supply by Walter Scheidel all ask important
questions regarding slavery in Ancient Rome. The articles share similar themes and ask important
questions regarding the source of Roman slaves, the costs of Roman slaves, the number of
enslaved peoples in comparison to the rest of the population, the lifestyle of Roman slaves in
comparison to that of freedmen, the working conditions under which enslaved peoples were
placed, the existence of slavery in surrounding areas, different social and political settings and their
impact on slavery, the nature of the master slave relationship, how and why slavery did not seem to
be problematic in Roman society from a Roman perspective, the different forms of slavery, and why
slavery continued.

Defender Of The Faith And Good Country People Summary
In Defender of the Faith and Good Country People , the problem of identity is key to the story,
for it is something that can be pondered over or quickly answered. In Defender of the Faith ,
Marx is seen struggling to identify himself by his actions, his religion, and his duty. In Good
Country People , Pointer is quickly identified as a good country person yet this perception isn t
accurate. Identity can be formed through a number of things, like family, friends, school, religion,
and etc. This is basic sociology, yet there is more to this simple list. It is the individual that
chooses to be influenced. An individual chooses who he or she interact with, one may say an
individual can t choose his or her biological parents, however, an individual can choose who to
call mom and dad. One can even argue that an individual can be identified by the choices he or
she have turned down. There are many influences to form an identity, yet it is the individual who
ultimately forms his or her identity based on the influences he or she chose. Marx is seen
struggling with his identity in Defender of the Faith , for he has allowed himself to be identified
by his duty, but Grossbart helped Marx rediscover a part of him that he lost during the war. By no
means was Grossbart intending to help Marx, Grossbart was only interested in his own self gain,
but this didn t stop Marx to let his Jewishness out. Grossbart invited Marx to mass one evening and

My Life Is The Worst
The air was damp and still. Not a single breeze on this seemingly hot as fuck evening in the
middle of August. I close my eyes as I continue down the sidewalk out of the small neighborhood
of shitty apartments, most of which that are left to rot. Not very many people live here, which
is probably my favorite part of this place. No one yelling at the other from their balcony, cursing
while a million little children run about getting bullied and thrown to the ground. It s so quiet.
So quiet and peaceful, it s hard to imagine that town is right around the corner. It s as if even the
outside world s sound had abandoned this place. 5th street is quite the ways down, so I was left
to my own devices. I would love to say that this is my down time. My time to just think and

about thinking. I ll remember the worst crap that I do. Like this one time, back when I was just

Personal Statement For Girl Child Education

a role model to both young and old. According to the Uganda Bureau of Statistics , 79% of men
aged 45 49 are literate compared to 50% of women in the same age group. Coming from a family

that Africa has very few influential women that younger girls would look up to. I therefore want to

Liberals and Conservatives in Post Revolutionary Latin America
Models for post revolutionary Latin American government are born of the complex economic and
social realities of 17th and 18th century Europe. From the momentum of the Enlightenment came
major political rebellions of the elite class against entrenched national monarchies and systems of
power. Within this time period of elitist revolt and intensive political restructuring, the fundamental
basis for both liberal and conservative ideology was driven deep into Latin American soil. However,
as neither ideology sought to fulfill or even recognize the needs or rights of mestizo people under

Comprised of landowners, lawyers, judges, priests, military officers and public officials, the creole
and mazomba leaders of Latin American society found insatiable inspiration from the American and
French Revolutions of the eighteenth century, and flooded Latin America with a liberal movement
for independent nations. Conservatives, in contrast, sought to preserve the traditions of the colonial
period, and the Orthodox rule of both the church and foreign born royal authorities. Yet Old World
flavor soured bitterly in a New World teeming with liberal thinkers and daring rebels. Desiring to
surpass Old World peninsular and reinГіs rulers, creole and mazomba won control over local
resources and economic development.
New World liberal intellectuals believed in minimal government direction and unregulated free
trade of agricultural and mined goods (63). Representing less than 5% of the total Latin American
population, the small, privileged elite of the New World reaped even greater awards during the
early decades of nationhood than under colonialism and created theological republics out of
Spanish and Portuguese colonial systems (84). New liberal republics built nations on the backs of
barbarous Indian and mestizo workers, and trumpeted free trade as a natural means to wealth and
the secret to European economic success. Sarmiento s ideology encapsulates liberal Latin America

The Great Presidents By Woodrow Wilson Essay
Presidential greatness isn t necessarily determined just by success or remembrance, but is
determined by the ideas that a president has and how it impacts the people. Each president sets
out with an agenda to accomplish and to leave a legacy behind, however, only few presidents are
remembered, celebrated, and taught about. The history of great presidents often correlates to time
of war for America. This is because great presidents often emerge to the people in times of crisis,
such as wars. Of the many great presidents, Woodrow Wilson, offers unique qualities such as
energy, intelligence, and leadership that make him a great president. The traits of a great president
are beginning to be defined first in Federalist 70 by Alexander Hamilton. In this document,
Hamilton outlines the need for a strong executive branch and the need for a strong president. A trait
that Hamilton believes defines a good president is a trait of strong energy; energy to protect the
nation, secure the liberties, and help administer laws to help promote the stability of the nation.
Hamilton argues that a feeble executive implies a feeble execution of the government. (Lawler).
Without a strong, energetic president as the backbone to provide leadership, the country can fall
into the traps of factions or anarchy, ultimately destroying the government. In addition to strength
and energy, intelligence and leadership is crucial for a president to be effective and great.
Leadership is a necessary quality to

been hired by a large public school system to construct a musical aptitude test. Describe how you
would standardize your test and assess its reliability and validity. Explain why it might be more
difficult to develop a valid musical aptitude test than a reliable one.
It is difficult to develop a valid musical aptitude test because most of the time, the measures of the
aptitude are misunderstood and demands that are unrealistic, made on them. Validity should be seen
as construct validity. The problem sources are in two groups. The first group uses composite
validity criteria. This forms the assumption that they are not dimensional. The second one uses
subject groups. The groups do not represent the distribution of the construct in whole. In order to
maximize the ecological validity, composite measures must be used as the criteria for validity.
Legitimacy is likewise harder to acquire as a rule the individuals that have been concentrated on

Analysis Of Hajime Isayama s Novel Attack On Titan
Graphic artist Hajime Isayama s best selling novel, Attack on Titan, illustrates the story of a
walled community that protects its citizens from gigantic humanoids Titans that consume
humans (Isayama, 2014). Hot headed 13 year old Eren Jäger features as the main protagonist,
who pledges his life to the military at the age of 11 to defeat the Titans. Eren s noble dedication
is fueled by the multiple traumas he experienced in his childhood. From enduring family risk
factors such as becoming orphaned at age 8, to community risk factors such as lack of support for
an overzealous pre teen soldier, Eren exhibits increased vulnerability to developing multiple types
of psychopathy. On the other hand, Eren eventually finds himself a tight knit group of friends and
new parental figure, which together produce protective factors such as supportive relationships, as
well as physical and psychological safety. An analysis of Eren s intra and inter personal
experiences suggests his likelihood to developing several types of psychopathy.
The multidimensional integrative approach to psychopathology indicates Eren s vulnerability to
developing psychological disorders exists in biological, psychological, emotional, and
developmental categories (Barlow et al., 2017). The novel hints at Eren s allegedly dead father, Dr.
Grisha Jäger exhibiting elements of schizophrenia as he hallucinated about Titans from working as
a doctor during Titan battles (Isayama, 2014). Subsequently, the diathesis

An Individual s Identity Is Shaped By Many Aspects Of...
An individual s identity is shaped by many aspects of their life, but the ones where they either
experienced hardship or were oppressed are the most prominent in defining their identity.
Individuals who identify as LGBTQ often have to deal with issues of inequality in their everyday
lives, because the dominant group, straight individuals, create an environment where others feel
oppressed. In many situations the dominant group feels as though anyone not like them needs to
change, and because they believe sexual orientationis a choice, they should just be straight. The
importance of maintaining individualfreedom, even when laws that oppress people and
discrimination is very prevalent, ultimately allows people to feel free. Many aspects of... Show

While he was talking about race, the argument still applies to sexuality, and necause LGBTQ
individuals had to endure this injustice it was not only their privilege, but their right to take action
against it. Taking this initiative to create an equal society was best accomplished through
nonviolent resistance. Martin Luther King Jr., a large proponent of nonviolent campaigns, writes
about how there are four basic steps in creating a campaign. First the collection of the facts to
determine whether injustice exists, which in this case it does based on the definition of an unjust
law. Next, self purification, this is having the confidence to unwaveringly believe in a cause and not
stray from non violence resistance. Third direct action which is used to create enough tension in the
community so that something happens, in this case causing friction between the government and
LGBTQ individuals. Finally, negotiation, where people worked with the government to change the
law so that LGBTQ individuals have the right to get married. While, this does not have an affect
on societal view it at least makes individuals freedoms legal. Martin Luther King Jr., believe in
talking the initiative to challenge unjust laws that revoke personal freedom and accepted all sorts of
punishment, from the dominant group, for it. This was similar to what LGBTQ individuals were
willing to do for equality, but with regards to sexual orientation not race. Individual expression is
another way that the

The Importance Of Women s Basketball
Are women s sports less interesting? Many people think that women s basketball is less
interesting. There are several reasons why women s sports is less popular. Women s sports are
less flashy and no as fun to watch. There are reasons why women s sports is superior to men s
sports. Basketball is one of the biggest women sports around the world. Even though it is popular
it is still not as popular as men s basketball. The reasons why it is less popular are mostly because
of wanting to be excited while watching. Some of the reasons of less interest in women s
basketball is there are not as many upsets, women s basketball is predictable, the talent is not as
wide in the WNBA, and the competition is better in the NBA. Women can not do all of the
flashy things that men can do in the game of basketball. Women s basketball started to become
more popular around the 1970s. Women s basketball was not taken seriously until the 1970s. By
the 1970s the sport had attracted the notice the International Olympic Committee, which added
women s basketball as an official sport of the Olympic Games in 1976, the men debuted in 1936.
(Women s Basketball) The rise of men s basketball was around 1946. The women were behind in
popularity by thirty years.Today both the WNBA and the NBA are both popular. Today the WNBA
have an average of 7,716 people in attendance at a season game. The NBA have an average of

Violence In A Tale Of Two Cities
A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens is about a time where the citizens of both France and
England are falling to oppression and violence by the government. With corrupted politicians
taking place; is making the citizens live their lives ruled by twisted people. One of the big
themes in A Tale of Two Cities is oppression and violence, which is making life difficult for those
who are innocent and want to live their life without pain as the corrupt government ends up
making everyone feel suffering. Politics is a main contributor to oppression and violence as they
tend to care more about themselves. The politicians are pleasing those who are in a high social
class than those who are in a lower social class such as the poor. In George Orwell s... Show more

They start treating them as trash and not give a second of thought about their humanity. In 1984
injustice occurs when the government removes the civil rights of their citizens, they heavily
survey their actions and any thought of rebellion can lead to arrest. The Party the name of the new
government undertakes in these activities to insure they are able to keep their position without
being challenged. The government in Syria led by President Assad uses excess force and treats
their people in a inhumane and uncivil as all the rights of the people are being taken away; in such
an unjust and violent way, which continues to separate the population and cause more uneasiness
between the people as they don t know what will happen. In A Tale of Two Citiesthe citizens are
forced to abide by the rules set by the French government, with these rules set; if a person breaks
them they might be arrested and sent to prison with ever being able to prove their innocence in a
trial or even be sentenced to a death penalty which keeps the citizens afraid from doing anything

Rhetorical Analysis Of Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
A common tactic used by many anti slavery writers in the Romantic Era is in speaking for and/or
giving voice to an estranged or silenced other , by giving the victim of the power struggle the
rhetorical devices needed to gain power (Kitson, 519). Shelley gives the creature not just a voice,
but an entire Volume of the book. However, she does this in an effort to reinforce the moral
superiority [which] means that [Frankenstein] will rarely question the validity of his own society s
formation and that he will not be inclined to expend any energy in understanding the worthless
alterity of the colonized (JanMohamed, 65). In other words, the creature s words only reinforce the
struggle of power between the creature and Frankenstein. Instead of giving a voice with which the
creature can gain power, Shelley uses this voice to break the monster further by reinforcing the
ideas of Frankenstein. Directly, Shelley allows Frankenstein to initially sympathize with the
creature, whose words had a strange effect upon me...[but] when I saw the filthy mass...my heart
sickened and my feelings were altered to those of horror and hatred... I could not sympathize with
him, (Shelly, 103); but eventually, when the reality of the creature as a monster (and not a human)
is recognized, Shelley leaves no room for sympathy. Not only does Frankenstein s perception go
against prominent anti slavery writer Samuel Taylor Coleridge s message that no man is wicked
without temptation, no man is wretched

The Life And Court Case Of Brandon Teena

Brandon Teena s Life and Court Case
Brandon Teena was a twenty one year old transgender man: a person who was born female but
who identifies as a male, who was brutally raped and murdered in 1993. After a few friends
found out he was transgender they raped him, beat him relentlessly and then later shot him at a
friends home for filling a police report. His story brought national attention to transgender people
and is the inspiration for two films and a book. His life was not in vain and he still lives on in his
story and the hearts and minds of many.
Brandon Teena was born Teena Renae Brandon in Lincoln, Nebraska in the year 1972. Brandon s
father died in a car crash before he was born ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The hate crime of Brandon brought national attention to the ideal and possibility that someone
would want to change their gender. For many people, this was their first time even hearing about
trans people and the violence against trans people. After his death, his identity was challenged and
argued even though there are quotes from him saying he felt like a man trapped inside a woman s
body. As Karina Eileraas puts it Transgender violence targets both men and women, but Brandon
Teena s case highlights its particularly brutal effects on FTM transgender individuals. Boys Don t
Cry provides a clear political incentive to integrate feminist, gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender
concerns in the analysis of violence against women...Serious risks accompany any attempt to invest
the body with particular truths about gender and sexuality . Brandon was not fully accepted in life
or given the support he needed but he is remembered in death and his story continues to inspire
many people whether trans or not.

Although types of companionships have somewhat changed over time, the presence and importance of them still remains. Viewing, analysing and comparing other individual s relationships to our own is something most people do, as a sort of assurance that things are natural. This is why many people are interested in novels about ways that other human beings interact with individuals and groups. Amy is again given the task of dealing with her mistress s children. She dresses up and visits them, giving them money on their mother s part, while careful not to reveal the secret about Roxana. When one of the children figures out who her mother is, Amy kills her against Roxana s wishes. This goes to show how loyal she is: even though she disobeyed her mistress, she treated the incident as if the daughter had wronged her, rather than Roxana. This may just be what the murder is about Amy has been close to Roxana for so long, sharing the secret identity, that it has almost become her own secret in many ways. Her choice of words she ll ruin us all (272) (using us instead of you ) shows that she feels as much in trouble as her mistress; on the other hand, her loyalty is still evident when she tells Roxana: I ll put you out of your Pain, and her too (273). However, within the multilingual society minority language is often deemed as not useful due to the cultural, social and economical advantages that dominant languageis able to bring along with it. This explains that why some of second generation immigrants are unable to speak in their heritage language, because they or their parents hold this belief. Also, this kind of attitude can be even found in the classroom. Despite their unique perspectives and social attitudes of freedom and control, both George Orwell and Fritz Lang explore issues of class struggle and the impact of technology on humanity through their medium of choice, expressing these serious concerns by forming a dystopic outlook of the future world. Lang s science fiction film Metropolis encapsulates the tensions of his wartime experience, and the political situation of the 1920s Weimer period in Germany, in which Lang tapped into the country s power struggles, issues of poverty and conflict, as well as the clear fascination with technological developments, through a heavily stylised futuristic environment. The workers are depicted in uniform black, trudging in synchronised robotic movements in an overcrowded environment, which reinforces their lack of identity and alluding to machinery, their dehumanisation and conformity to the atrocities of the industrialist environment. This is contrasted with the light shades and wide open spaces above the depths, reflecting the lifestyle of freedom enjoyed by the members of the upper city in the eternal garden, including the protagonist Freder. The repeated reference to the Mediator, between the head and the hands postulates the increasing class struggle in Lang s time. The iris effect on Maria emphasizes her angelic nature, and adoption of Christian values. As a devout catholic, Lang intended Maria to adopt notions of equality which are obsolete in the society of Metropolis, the head of the city, Joh Frederson, possessing a capitalist outlook. He is the embodiment of power over the workers as suggested by his body posture and stern facial expressions. Moreover, Maria acts as a catalyst to the Mediator, who is Freder, as suggested by the chiaroscuro lighting on his face in the catacombs. Freder s actions in the Moloch scene in which he reaches out his hands to help the workers represents his Christian nature and foreshadows his ability to undo the inequality of class in which Metropolis has been founded. My parents have shown authority towards me and my siblings but have always been flexible with their rules. My parents have never stressed us out by being too strict with their rules. The first question I asked my parents was, how would you react if one of my siblings or I asked to come home later than you originally told us to come home? My parents responded that they would ask why we want to come home later and then tell them they can come home later at a certain time but no later than the extended time. This fits exactly with the authoritative parenting style because my parents would extend the time which is being flexible and then also they would enforce a new time for us to come home which shows authority. Next I asked my parents, what would you do if one of my siblings or I got in trouble at school? My parents said they would have a talk with whoever got in trouble and make sure they know not to ever do it again. Also, my parents said they would discipline whoever got in trouble by doing more chores or taking away their phone for a day. This fits with the authoritative parenting style as well because my parents are making us understand what we did wrong and learn from it. Others have dubbed it the next Afghanistan, and others still see a future for Iraq unlike any seen in history. In the midst of all this speculation, one thing is certain: eventually, the US military must withdraw from occupied Iraq. As a matter of history, occupation does not last unless there is a concomitant colonization and/or a significant population influx. The current situation does after all mirror Iran s prior to the Revolution of 1979 in several ways. The United States s presence was one that encouraged the political repression of those against the established power in Iran and does the same today in Iraq. Further, Shias, who constitute sixty percent of the Iraqi population and almost all of Iran s, tend to gather more than Sunnis in large groups during such mourning holidays as Ashura and Arba een, and so have a ritual means of gathering en masse. • 24. Differences Of Fear In Once Upon A Time By Nadine Gordimer Omphalophobia is the fear of belly buttons. Strange thing is, we are all connected through those bizarre digs in the middle of our stomachs. Everyone grew and came from the same place, cut from the same cord. A lot of times no one remembers this, and they strike out against each other, or hide from each other in fear, because of skin color or religion. Fear is something that inhabits all of us. Writhing underneath our skin just waiting to find a reason to be unleashed. This feeling can be used in different ways, bringing everyone together, or tearing people from civilization. In the same way, the written works Once Upon a Time , A Quilt of a Country and The Vietnam Wall show the contrast between these two types of fear. In the story Once Upon a Time written by Nadine Gordimer, fear is a concept that dictates the leading characters thoughts and actions. The husband and wife that are supposedly living happily ever after, have built a wall around their house to keep out the raids and the burglars that had roamed the suburbian streets they lived on at night. Fear is what led this family to destruction, killing their son and handing them misery and the knowledge that the wall they put up, didn t save them from anything. If the husband and wife hadn t listened to the wise old witch and her warning and left their house uncaged, and accessible to everyone else, their son might still be alive and unburdened by the rest of the world and the fear that controlled ... • 25. Gender Equality In Nazi Germany At the turn of the twentieth century, a new representation of the female race was beginning to emerge in German society. The was primarily a result of the brutal impact of WWI on the population of men in Germany. They had suffered immense loss of life and nearly drained their supply of young men because so many had died in the war. Meanwhile, German women had been forced to fill in the gaps in the labor force. While the men were off in battle, they would do the jobs that men would normally be doing. Consequently, many women became accustomed to working, being paid, and excelling in their careers. This gave way for the emergence of petitioning for other women s rights such as women s suffrage, equal pay, and other emancipations. Women began challenging fashion norms and breaking the stigma that a woman s purpose was limited to the family and home. However, as veterans began to return from war, they began to reclaim their old jobs, women were laid off, and although progress had been made, there was (and still is) a long way to go in order to achieve true equality. Things began to slide back to the way they were, and with the enabling of the Third Reich any ideas of gender equality came crashing down completely. This is not to say that women were viewed as useless or worthless in Nazi Germany. It was quite the contrary. Women were a crucial part of Hitler s plan to expand the Aryan race to maximum capacity. Women were exalted and celebrated on all kinds of propaganda ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Abusive Domestic Relationship Defence According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics half of the female victims of domestic violence experience more than one incident of abuse (Australian Bureau of Statistics, 2013). In Queensland using spousal abuse as a defence to murder can be problematic for female defendants who kill their abusers. Jurors in most cases relating to spousal abuse tend to find the act of pre emptive killing in self defence not justifiable. Queensland s Criminal Code should be amended to allow the Abusive Domestic Relationship Defence to be used as a full defence. This can be proven as victims of violencetend to lack the ability to make logical decisions; individuals feel a case of entrapment and the victim signals violence and acts before the onset of abuse.... Runjanjic and Kontinnen (1991), Chief Justice King explained the effects of Battered Woman Syndrome ; a theory which is used to invoke why women kill their abusive partners their (women) reactions and responses differ from those which might be expected by persons who lack the advantage of an acquaintance (Lenore Walker, 2012). Walker argues that the syndrome would influence the abused individual to make decisions which appear illogical to a typical person. A common person would leave an abusive relationship rather than kill for self preservation, whilst the syndrome would influence the victim to kill. In the case R v. Runjanjic and Kontinnen (1991) the loss of this ability is clear as the defendant s lawyer claimed , Though she doesn t consciously remember her decision making process, Kontinnen grabbed a shotgun and shot Hill in the back of the head (Bradfield, 2011). The fact that Kontinnen cannot remember what caused her to make the decision to kill the deceased displays the effect violence has had on her mental health. The body scanners are quicker than the former methods of a pat down , which every passenger had to endure and were less invasive. The cost of this has rising over the years but it was the initial setup of the TSA in 2002 which cost the most since there was not an agency within this realm that completed these duties. Defender Of The Faith And Good Country People Summary In Defender of the Faith and Good Country People , the problem of identity is key to the story, for it is something that can be pondered over or quickly answered. In Good Country People , Pointer is quickly identified as a good country person yet this perception isn t accurate. Identity can be formed through a number of things, like family, friends, school, religion, and etc. This is basic sociology, yet there is more to this simple list. It is the individual that chooses to be influenced. An individual chooses who he or she interact with, one may say an individual can t choose his or her biological parents, however, an individual can choose who to call mom and dad. One can even argue that an individual can be identified by the choices he or she have turned down. The Great Presidents By Woodrow Wilson Essay Presidential greatness isn t necessarily determined just by success or remembrance, but is determined by the ideas that a president has and how it impacts the people. Each president sets out with an agenda to accomplish and to leave a legacy behind, however, only few presidents are remembered, celebrated, and taught about. The history of great presidents often correlates to time of war for America. This is because great presidents often emerge to the people in times of crisis, such as wars. Of the many great presidents, Woodrow Wilson, offers unique qualities such as energy, intelligence, and leadership that make him a great president. The traits of a great president are beginning to be defined first in Federalist 70 by Alexander Hamilton. In this document, Hamilton outlines the need for a strong executive branch and the need for a strong president. A trait that Hamilton believes defines a good president is a trait of strong energy; energy to protect the nation, secure the liberties, and help administer laws to help promote the stability of the nation. From enduring family risk factors such as becoming orphaned at age 8, to community risk factors such as lack of support for an overzealous pre teen soldier, Eren exhibits increased vulnerability to developing multiple types of psychopathy. On the other hand, Eren eventually finds himself a tight knit group of friends and new parental figure, which together produce protective factors such as supportive relationships, as well as physical and psychological safety. An analysis of Eren s intra and inter personal experiences suggests his likelihood to developing several types of psychopathy. The multidimensional integrative approach to psychopathology indicates Eren s vulnerability to developing psychological disorders exists in biological, psychological, emotional, and developmental categories (Barlow et al., 2017). The novel hints at Eren s allegedly dead father, Dr. Grisha JГ¤ger exhibiting elements of schizophrenia as he hallucinated about Titans from working as a doctor during Titan battles (Isayama, 2014). While he was talking about race, the argument still applies to sexuality, and necause LGBTQ individuals had to endure this injustice it was not only their privilege, but their right to take action against it. Taking this initiative to create an equal society was best accomplished through nonviolent resistance. Martin Luther King Jr., a large proponent of nonviolent campaigns, writes about how there are four basic steps in creating a campaign. First the collection of the facts to determine whether injustice exists, which in this case it does based on the definition of an unjust law. Next, self purification, this is having the confidence to unwaveringly believe in a cause and not stray from non violence resistance. Third direct action which is used to create enough tension in the community so that something happens, in this case causing friction between the government and LGBTQ individuals. Finally, negotiation, where people worked with the government to change the law so that LGBTQ individuals have the right to get married. While, this does not have an affect on societal view it at least makes individuals freedoms legal. Martin Luther King Jr., believe in talking the initiative to challenge unjust laws that revoke personal freedom and accepted all sorts of punishment, from the dominant group, for it. This was similar to what LGBTQ individuals were willing to do for equality, but with regards to sexual orientation not race. Individual expression is another way that the ... • 48. Rhetorical Analysis Of Mary Shelley s Frankenstein A common tactic used by many anti slavery writers in the Romantic Era is in speaking for and/or giving voice to an estranged or silenced other , by giving the victim of the power struggle the rhetorical devices needed to gain power (Kitson, 519). Shelley gives the creature not just a voice, but an entire Volume of the book. However, she does this in an effort to reinforce the moral superiority [which] means that [Frankenstein] will rarely question the validity of his own society s formation and that he will not be inclined to expend any energy in understanding the worthless alterity of the colonized (JanMohamed, 65). In other words, the creature s words only reinforce the struggle of power between the creature and Frankenstein. Instead of giving a voice with which the creature can gain power, Shelley uses this voice to break the monster further by reinforcing the ideas of Frankenstein. Directly, Shelley allows Frankenstein to initially sympathize with the creature, whose words had a strange effect upon me...[but] when I saw the filthy mass...my heart sickened and my feelings were altered to those of horror and hatred... I could not sympathize with him, (Shelly, 103); but eventually, when the reality of the creature as a monster (and not a human) is recognized, Shelley leaves no room for sympathy. Not only does Frankenstein s perception go against prominent anti slavery writer Samuel Taylor Coleridge s message that no man is wicked without temptation, no man is wretched ...
