Jackson Vs Perseus
The story Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief and the Olympians is a similar modern day telling to
the Danaüs, Perseus and the Gorgon through events, archetypes and theme.
The two heroes in these story go through very similar events. Both Percy Jackson and Perseus fight
medusa but in different scenarios. In the text of Perseus s story it says, Perseus swooped down, and
with one deft stroke he cut off the Medusa s head. (D aulaires, 118) In Percy Jackson and the
Lightning Thief, Percy Jackson and his friends fight Medusa in a garden store that is filled with
statues. (Percy Jackson) This modernizes the older story because it is more realistic that Medusa
would hide in an area full of statues, since Medusa turns people into stone it is a good hiding place for
her. They both saved their mom from an evil/bad man. In the text it said, As soon as the king had
gotten rid of Perseus, he had tired to carry Danaë. (D aulaires, 120) In Percy Jackson and the
Lightning Thief this was modernized, Percy Jackson protects his mom from Gabe being a huge jerk.
(Percy Jackson) It would make more sense that a husband was being a jerk ... Show more content on

In both stories the hero s fight a dragon sort of monster but it is modernized in Percy Jackson and the
Lightning Thief. In the text of Danaus, Perseus and the Gorgon it says, As he spoke, a horrible sea
monster came from the sea, its huge mouth opened wide to swallow Andromeda. ( D aulaires, 120) In
the movie, it shows Percy Jackson 5 janitors that changed into the fire

Moral Development In The Chronicles Of Birnia
Every individual within a society develops morality, either independently or with the help of other
people. For an individual to grow morally, he or she needs knowledge or background information in
order to differentiate right from wrong. Moral psychology, is defined in the field of psychology, as the
study of the development of the moral sense (Britannica Moral psychology). In other words, it is the
capacity for forming judgments about what is morally right or wrong, good or bad. Psychologist
Lawrence Kohlberg hypothesized an individual s development of moral standards progresses through
various levels. The early level, the child utilizes physical experiences such as pleasure or pain, as the
source for moral decisions. At this level, the child s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, consider the possibility that the stakes are significantly higher. Imagine a scenario where the
life in danger isn t your own, but someone else s. This is the circumstance Digory finds himself in,
approaching the finish of a long journey he spent looking for a cure for his mom, who is at death s
door. Digory agreed to complete a mission from Aslan, promising to bring back an enchanted apple
that will secure Narnia, for a while, from the shrewdness he had brought into it. Having a sick but
present mother, Digory still made mistakes in his journey. Even though he was responsible for
releasing Jadis, who almost destroyed Aslan s creation, he showed character and maturity accepting
and completing Aslan s task in order to redeem himself. He developed morally by understanding the
consequences and taking responsibility for his actions, and helping to bring the solution for the chaos
he brought thinking about others ( Role taking

Steganography, An Ulterior, And Lesser Known Approach For...
Steganography is an ulterior, and lesser known approach to private communication. Steganographic
applications work by taking in three things: a cover work; this could be a picture, an audio file, a video
file, etc., a message to be embedded, and a stego key; we don t always use one but if we do it is much
like an encryption key. Steganography applications will then embed the message into the cover work.
This is most commonly performed using a method known as LSB embedding, which I will explain in
detail.
LSB embedding involves taking the gray scale values of certain pixels, and making sure the LSB, or
least significant bit is set to the bit value needed. If we have a gray scale value of 51, or 00110011, and
we need to have a 0 embedded at this pixel value, the application will simply change the gray scale
value to 50, or 00110010. If the grey scale value already ended in a 0 we would leave it as is. Within
LSB embedding are three options for how the pattern of pixels are chosen. The first method; which
has the lowest form of security, is sequential. This method embeds the pixels in a sequential manner,
for example: left to right, top to bottom. The second method is pseudo (random). This method works
exactly as it sounds and simply embeds based on a random pattern, which can be initialized by the
stego key provided. The third, and most secure, method is adaptive. Adaptive works intelligently, by
first analyzing the cover work and identifying locations where statistical

Alienation of Process according to Karl Marx
Karl Marx discusses four forms of alienation and two of the four are equally important in the ongoing
production of capitalism: alienation from the process and product one makes. From the alienation of
process, the proletariat or maker is just a producer of the product. He does not have any say as to how
a product should be made or improved because he is not the owner of the facilities or tools used to
make the product. This can be incorporated to a worker in a factory. He or she may be given specific
instructions and must follow through with the creation of the product. The entrepreneur, who owns the
amenities used to make the product, has power over the labor of the workers. Therefore, entrepreneurs
have the say as how the product should be developed. As a result, any completed or incomplete
product is left at the hands of the entrepreneur rather than the maker. This leads to another form of
alienation known as estrangement. Alienation from the product one makes, or estrangement, refers to
the relationship of the manufactured goods and the maker. The proletariat may be able to put value in
the product they make, but it does not necessarily mean they own the product. As a result, the higher
class, in this case the entrepreneurs, makes revenue of the product produced by the maker. All profit
where the workers don t own the means of production is based on exploitation (89). The proletariats,
therefore, are mistreated for the entrepreneurs benefit of gaining surplus

Importance Of Being At The Right Place
Being at the right time at the right place: How to benefit financially?
By some estimates, the total number of human beings that have ever lived is about 110 billion, of
which approximately 7% are alive today. The world population keeps growing every year, so,
statistically, you might say more humans have a chance of being at the right place at the right time
than at any given time before, right? Yes and, uh, no. Statistics and big numbers have a powerful way
of suggesting the wrong answer. Merely because more people play the lottery certainly does not mean
your chance to win increases; only the total amount the winner will take away increases. That is of
course unless we change the rules of the game itself. So, what does it ... Show more content on

You might have heard of him. Andrew saw a huge opportunity while working for the railroads,
expanding tracks West and South from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Rail tracks and bridges were
needed in great numbers all the way to the West Coast. A new, much more efficient process to make a
stronger iron had just been invented by Henry Bessemer in the United Kingdom and Andrew Carnegie
saw an enormous opportunity in making this new iron called steel from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania,
close to the iron ore mines and rivers for easy transport. But, the most important factor in deciding to
start this business was a law adopted in 1870 supported by the Republican Party, which had the
presidency and a majority in Congress. The law was a $28 tariff on imported steel, basically taking out
the British competition in one stroke. The tariff was upheld for a good 30 years. You may or may not
favor laws like this one, but it is beside the point: it was a Ka Ching moment for Andrew and the other
eight steel companies in the United States. They essentially got a license to print cash for themselves.
Their timing was right. The rest is history. Andrew Carnegie went on to become one of the wealthiest
men ever... only to give it all back to Society. The thinking behind his philanthropy was that he had
been given a huge opportunity, largely by the good fortune of being at the right time and the right
place. Of course, there is more to it than

The Impact Of Transgenders In The Military
One of the big questions lurking in the United States is if transgenders can serve in the military. As of
right now they are temporarily not allowing transgenders into the military. If they were to allow them
there would be many things that they would have to look at. There is things like where would they live
to how would be treated. They would have to decide what they would want to do with the ones
currently serving. There s just many factors to look at when trying to decide when something like
transgenders are becoming so popular in a society like ours today.
It all started in 2016 when Barack Obama let transgenders to enroll in the military. Before this time
there wasn t any problem with transgender because it just started to become a thing in 2016. Barack
Obama signed a policy in 2014 that banned people who were openly gay, lesbian, and bisexuals from
being in the military. There was never anything about transgenders.
In 2015 things began to change, they now made it so that transgenders could serve. Joe Biden put his
input in on what he thought about the situation. He argued that they should be able to serve. He said in
a conference that he didn t want to anger anyone currently serving that is transgender. A study was
made to see how big of an impact that transgenders would have on the military. They made the
prediction that they would cost little and have no significant impact on unit readiness. In 2016 they
made it so that transgenders would no longer be separated

Hurricane Andrew Research Papers
The sound of the wind, that s what you never forget. The initial whisper. The growing mewing that
turns into a howl. Then they cry of glass shattering. The grumbling of a roof peeling apart , said Ana
Veciana Suarez, as she remembers one of the worst, fiercest, and most powerful storm to hit South
Florida, Hurricane Andrew. On August 24, 1992, Category 5 Hurricane Andrew came through and
devastated South Florida turning its full forces on Miami Dade county. The aftermath of this hurricane
was completely unbelievable and devastating, being that it was the most high priced storm ever
recorded in United States History. Rebuilding the community took several years and even after
everything was rebuilt, citizens of South Florida, would never forget Hurricane Andrew.
As many know, hurricanes are considered to be among the most powerful forces in nature. A hurricane
is a powerful storm system that produces intense winds and heavy rainfall. Hurricanes form over
warm ocean water during warm months such as June, July, and August which is known as the ... Show

manner. As she continued to speak, she talked about how they prepared for Hurricane Andrew. We
went out and brought cold cuts, flashlights, candles, we even tied down everything on our back porch
and whatever we could not tie down, went in our shed. I thought we prepared more than enough, but
we didn t. We prepared just enough. She explained how the storm was furious, how it was very
powerful and dangerous. When I asked Mrs. Brown was there any damage done to her house, she said
yes. Our big avocado tree that has been there for almost 25 years, fell and hit our back porch and or

The Five Husbands In The Wife Of Bath s Tale
The wife of bath stands up for women equality and does not let men push her around. She had five
husbands, with each of them she used a technique to get what she wanted. She would blame them for
things they did not do, she would make them buy her things and have complete mastery over all of
them. With her fifth husband things become rocky with her having the upper hand in the relationship.
This is shown through the book that her husband reads which in that book degrades women. She snaps
back into this mode of control and stands up for women by tearing the pages out of this book. The
wife of bath thinks women should always have mastery in a marriage, this leads her to realize with her

marriage will continue on: You have two choices; which one will you try? To have me old and ugly till
I die, but still a loyal, true, and humble wife that never would displease you all her life, or would you
rather I were young and pretty and chance your arm what happens in a city where friends will visit

There are ten specific designated health services for which referrals by physicians who have financial
relationships with the entity providing the designated health service that are prohibited. According to
our textbook, they are Clinical laboratory services, Physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech
language pathology services, Radiology and certain other imaging services, Radiation therapy services

RDA Fragmentation Research
Still another example showing a RDA fragmentation phenomenon is the mass spectrum of
5,7dihydroxy 4 methoxyisoflavanone.
(C16 H14 O5 M 286)
In this molecular ion cleavage occur through RDA reaction. In the ionization process ene and diene
with charges are formed. The base peak is at m/z 134, is due to the ene and the diene is at m/z 152,
these fractions favor the fallowing mechanism, with the dissociation of ring present in the compound.
From the study of mass spectrum of Isoflavanone, masses and structures of the fragments ene, and
diene can be ascertained, and from this the structure of compound can be determined. The position of
substituent on the ring, can be determined by preparing the derivatives and studying the mass
spectrum of these derivatives with a known substituent in the fragment ene ... Show more content on

THE MacLofferty REARRANGMENT FRAGMENTATION PROCESS
Basically the hetero atom, or functional group in a molecule facilitate the fragmentation, and it is
expressed with α cleavage. In MacLofferty rearrangement the essential feature is the double bond,
with or without heteroatom, with a γ hydrogen. This type of arrangement is commonly encountered in
the compounds, with C (carboxylic acid, esters, aldehydes ketones, amides, lactams, lactones)
compounds with C=N (azomethines, or shiffs base, hydrazones, oximes, semicarbazones) compounds
with S=O, (sulfonic acid esters) and compounds with C=C (alkylarene, alkylhetero cycles, benzyl
ethers, olefene).
In MacLafferty cleavage, H atom at γ position to double bond, transfer to double bond via six member
ring formation, and simultaneously double bond moves in between the adjacent atoms, and a part of
molecule fragment detach from the molecule, the mechanism of fragmentation is as

Summary Of America Needs It Nerds
America Needs It Nerds by Leonid Fridman talks about how the American society looks down on
geeks or the intellectually curious and academically serious people. Fridman believes that if America
continues to do this it will lead to a negative on how other countries look at us. Leonid Fridman made
his argument using ethos, cause and effect, rhetorical questions, and pathos. In this passage Fridman
started off in the second paragraph using ethos to develop his argument. He cites Webster s new World
Dictionary definition of a geek, which is the word society uses to describe academically serious
individuals. The definition given is a street performer who shocks the public by biting off heads of live
chickens. This definition puts someone who dedicated to strictly under the same branch as a freak who

Towards the end of the passage Fridman asks many rhetorical questions. One of the questions asked
how will America remain a world class power if we constantly emphasize social skills and physical
prowess over academic achievement...?! This question makes readers think of how this societal issue
can lead to something bigger like America losing its world class power title . This question can strike
the American patriot readers or people that hold America in a high estate.
Lastly, Leonid Fridman used Pathos to develop his argument. This whole passage gives the intellectual
curious and academically serious people a voice. A reader who has dealt with being excluded from
society and looked down on as a freak will now feel as though their voice will be heard. Fridman
states how this issue is not only geared towards adults in paragraph 4 he explains how children as
young in elementary school are being educated for who they are and their academic abilities. This
gives readers an eye opener that if even young kids are going through this then the problem should be

Renaissance And The Italian Renaissance
The Italian Renaissance had two distinct periods during its lifetime. The first being the Early
Renaissance , which took place between the late 13th and the early 14th centuries. The second period
was known as the High Renaissance , which took place during the 15th and 16th centuries. These two
periods had very distinct foundations and styles behind the art and architecture of their respective
periods. The Early Renaissance revived many old themes which later became the foundations for the
High Renaissance. While the High Renaissance strayed from previous traditions and had its own form
of art and essentially perfected early themes and styles of art and included more scientific/mathematic
components.
The Early Renaissance saw the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Architects and designers such as Brunelleschi, Alberti, and Rossellino were absolutely obsessed with
designing and engineering building with perfect symmetry, proportions, and with ample amounts of
geometry. These architectural styles can be seen in the Pazzi Chapel (to the left), which was designed
by the famous Filippo Brunelleschi. The Palazzo Rucellai (to the right) (designed by Alberti and
architected by Rossellino) in Florence, Italy is another example of architectural uniformity during the
Early Renaissance. Proportions can be clearly seen throughout the exterior of the building and reflects
Roman architecture, which Alberti admired heavily.
The most complex and most high profile masterpieces and artists to come out of the Italian
Renaissance came during the 15th and 16th centuries, which was also known as the High Renaissance.
The architectural and artistic styles of the Early Renaissance essentially laid the foundations for the
High Renaissance period of art and architecture. These styles were mostly perfected during the High
Renaissance. One such example of perfected art is the most famous portrait known as the Mona Lisa
by Leonardo da Vinci. The Mona Lisa brings figure and landscape into exquisite harmony: the
pyramidal shape of the sitter is echoed in the curves of distant roads and rivers. ( Renaissance/Baroque

Should Books Be Banned From Libraries Essay
How would you like it if you needed a book for research or if you really liked a certain type of books
and they were banned? Books like The Outsiders could be banned for censored information about
drugs and alcohol. Libraries have been debating this problem for a long time to get a rule on
censorship or no censorship. Censoring in libraries is a big problem. People don t know if certain
books should be banned from libraries, and libraries don t know what would be censored and what
wouldn t be censored. I don t think books should be banned from libraries because they can show you
what not to do and be used for research topics, how would libraries decide what is censored and what
isn t, or they could be something that some reader like that others don t like.
Censorship should not be put in place because some of the book that are censored my be historic and
help people see what not to repeat in life. Books like the one Hitler wrote should not be censored
because they show society how to not act and how we can not repeat history. Some old books can be
used for research purposes for students and teachers. They can show people helpful things that some
people don t understand. These are types of books that could be censored, used in other ways than just
for bad use. This Is why books should not be censored because many that would be, contain valuable
historic content. Books in libraries should not be censored because of the historic value of the books.
I think some drama and romance books that might be censored shouldn t be because some people like
that stuff. Romance books like Fifty Shades of Gray might be liked by some people and we shouldn t
take away types of books that some people enjoy. Books that tell about very gory and violent things
people still like so we shouldn t take away those books. If we took away some drama, romance, or
violent books, where would the line be to have them be acceptable? Just because they shouldn t be
read by young readers doesn t mean they should be taken away. Parents of the young readers can just
tell them not to read the book. They can tell their children not to go to that certain section. Just
because you don t like the book doesn t mean it should be taken away from someone

Compare And Contrast Essay On Alzheimer s
All shows from the past have gone through a huge changed due to all the modernizing in today s TV

essay will be comparing and contrasting two of the exhibitions relinquished by The Munster s one in
1964 and the other in 2012: their apparel, their way of interacting with people, and their abode.
The Munster s clothing changes in a dramatic way from their show in 1964 to 2012In the Munsters

Their way of interacting with people showed how different they were in their behavior to normal
humans. The Munsters in their 1964 they would cerebrate that the mundane people verbalized

Water Hardness Of Water Solubility
Not all water is alike. In fact, water contains minerals that change its properties. According to the
University of Washington in St. hard water is hard water is water that contains cations with a charge of
+2, especially Ca2+ and Mg2+ 1. Water picks up these Ca2+ and Mg2+ cations as it moves through
soil and interacts with sedimentary rock undergoing a process known as dissolution. Water hardness
values can be represented in numerous ways, including milligrams per liter, parts per million, and
grains per gallon. The water hardness value becomes greater with the increase in concentration of
these cations2. The water hardness in State College, PA is rather high due to the location of the town
being on a large amount of limestone3. Water hardness is significant because of the effect it can have
in our homes but more importantly industries. Water hardness has an effect on the efficiency of soap
and can leave mineral deposits on your dishes. The biggest problems that water hardness creates are
these mineral deposits that it leaves behind. These mineral deposits are known as scale formation.
When water is boiled and evaporates, this solid substance called scale forms. It most commonly
hardens on pipes, tubes, large industrial boilers, and other appliances. Scale blocks the flow of water
and clogs pipes, decreases heat transfer efficiency in boilers, and can lead to weakness in structures.
This scale formation is also particularly difficult and expensive to remove4. As stated

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Plasmin
Plasmin is the most well studied and promising of the vitreolytic agents. It is a nonspecific serine
protease that mediates fibrinolysis and is capable of degrading several vitreous macromolecules
directly and indirectly.185 In a landmark paper published in 1993, Verstraeten and colleagues induced
PVD in rabbit eyes by intravitreal injection of this enzyme followed by vitrectomy.165 In 1999,
Hikichi and co workers166 confirmed complete PVD after injection of 1U plasmin and 0.5 ml SF6 gas
in the rabbit model, without evidence of retinal toxicity. In an electron microscopic study, the
vitreoretinal interface in postmortem human eyes showed complete vitreous separation with sparse
collagen fibrils after the injection of plasmin.186

First, the plasminogen is isolated from human plasma by affinity chromatography. Then it is
concentrated and activated by the addition of streptokinase. Finally, it is sterilized by filtration.
Although the use of plasmin obtained by chromatography has been found to be safe and efficient, the
production of the plasmin enzyme is technically and logistically difficult and expensive. Hence, other
alternative method has been proposed to facilitate the production of the APE for vitreoretinal surgery;
1 hour before surgery a sample of the patient s blood is centrifuged and incubated with streptokinase.
Using this method, Rizzo and coauthors reported the presence of PVD in 85% of the eyes which
received the APE solution intravitreally.193 Pharmacologic vitreolysis by intravitreal injection of APE
has been proposed by several researchers. In a pilot study, Williams et al.168 assessed the use of the
APE as an adjuvant to vitreous surgery in eyes with advanced diabetic retinopathy. A beneficial
surgical result was also reported in cases of pediatric macular194 and idiopathic macular holes in
adults.195 There is evidence of a favorable effect of plasmin on the ultrastructure of the ILL and its
separation from the vitreous, as reported by Asami et al.169 However, the efficacy and toxicity of
intravitreal APE is dosedependent. Intravitreal injection of 0.4 IU of plasmin has been

The ghostly figure can be recognised through the sound of her high pitched screams, which she

The Woman in Black only appears in shadows or in the reflection of a mirror using an over the
shoulder camera shot. Throughout the film, the ghost is not seen directly in frame position to ensure
that she isn t seen directly by the audience. By positioning the Woman in Black in corners and hiding
her in the shadows, it creates tension and adds a sense of mystery to a scene. This can be seen during
the film whilst Arthur is in the house, and he drifts off to sleep. The evil spirit is seen in the shadows
moving towards Arthur, the image of the Woman in Black becoming clearer as she moves closer to the

Book Report On The Movie Valentine
THEY rolled. Valentine watched the SUV flip twice, slamming into a shipping container and
careening off into a brutal spin on its roof. He laughed, high and harsh. Then he limped after them,
following the trail of broken glass and splinters of plastic and metal. Valentine led with the pistol he d
taken from one of the sailors, gripped in both hands. He ignored the pain in his right palm where he d
sliced it open as the cheap steak knife had broken off in the sailor s neck. He d had worse. Finish the
job. The SUV had stopped moving now, oily smoke rising into the night like winter fog. A figure
struggled out on the far side, the door screaming as it popped open. Valentine snapped off a quick
shot, but it went wide. The figure stumbled away, towards the cover of a hulking mass of shipping
containers. Even in the shadows, Valentine saw that they were big. Moving faster than he expected.
Hirsch. Valentine went into a crouch, skirting around the edge of the SUV wreck. His ankle burned
dully where he d jumped from the trawler. His palm was slick with blood. The burned tattoos along
his back and arms itched and stung. But Hirsch he wasn t worried about. Hirsch wasn t the problem.
Gunfire crackled in the darkness. Valentine flinched, but the fusillade was nowhere near him.
Someone guessing. Laying down blind cover fire. He hugged the shadows on the edge of the
containers, working his away around the SUV. He picked his way carefully, the pistol held steady.

White Horse Descriptive Writing
What just happened? I sat at the window, wondering about what I just saw. It was 3 am when I woke
up, in the middle of a thunderstorm. Carefully, I went to sit on the window seat to gaze at the dark,
rolling clouds above. Lightning flashed and thunder roared. Wait! What was that? It was a white horse.
Standing in the pasture, staring right at me. He was calm, almost as if he was waiting for someone, or
something. Suddenly, a huge lightning bolt flared. Momentarily, I was blinded. When I looked back at
where the horse was, I was astonished. Nothing!! Where did he go? Still confused, I get back into bed
and drift into a deep sleep filled with white horses galloping through the sky. The next morning, I sit
up and yawn. All at once, I remember ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I race down the loft ladder and out of the barn to find the mysterious white horse heavily panting as he
pulls and thrashes, trying to free his hoof from the fence. However, the most shocking thing is that
flailing in the air are two wings, practically glowing with an unearthly light. Carefully, I calm the
horse down, muttering soothing words to him, and he looks up at me with trusting liquid eyes.
Scrambling around Pegasus, I reach underneath the tightly wedged hoof and wiggle it from between
the posts. At last, Pegasus is free. With a glance in my direction, he trots towards the clouds in the
distance. I begin to follow, but an unknown force sweeps me off my feet and carries me into the sky. I
look up at the force, and see an enormous bird carrying me into the sky. Abruptly, I see a flash of
white and I am falling from the sky. Pegasus swoops under and catches me, then carries me back into
the sky above. We peacefully glide above the clouds, gathering speed until the world around me is a
blur. The blur slows down slowly, and I find Pegasus and myself flying towards a majestic mountain
with a Greek palace on top of it. Somehow, I hear a gentle voice inside my head that whispers,

The Process And Importance Of Socialization
Hailey Bryan
Dr. Michael Flota
SYG 2000 Online
June 2, 2017 The Process and Importance of Socialization in Children:
Socialization is the process through which an individual learns to become a functional member of
society. Through socialization, one learns their cultures language, their role in life, what is expected
from them, and what is considered acceptable behavior. Social interaction provides crucial sensory
stimulation, which then leads to the creation of short and long term memories. These memories are
important because they reinforce behaviors or actions in new social situations. Another important part
of the process of socialization is cognitive development, also referred to as modeling (Bandura, ...

It continues from birth until death. We are continuously being molded into a social creature, and
learning the social ways of acting and feeling. Without the process of molding, society could not
continue, nor would culture exist, nor could an individual become a person. Every person constantly
has to adjust themselves to be accepted by the society of which they are a member of. If they fail to do
so, they re labeled a social deviant and will be put back in line by the efforts of society. Socialization
is constantly reinforced all throughout our lifetime, not solely through just our parents and teachers,
but also through authority figures, messages from institutions, media, and our culture. Socialization
has a significant impact on the way that children perceive themselves when they are younger and
usually continues to affect them as they grow into adulthood. Thus, sometimes resulting in this
defiant, uncontrollable behavior. Children are born into this world without any knowledge of the
social culture. They must go through a long sociological developmental process in which parents and
other influences, attempt to transform them into socially competent individuals. So, what would a
human be like if raised in isolation? There is plenty of evidence that suggests if humans were raised in
extreme isolation, that they would lack many of the features that we generally identify as human.
Without socialization, children cannot and will

Satire of a Modest Proposal Essay
Irony is a beautiful technique exercised to convey a message or call a certain group of people to
action. This rhetorical skill is artfully used by Jonathan Swift in his pamphlet A Modest Proposal. The
main argument for this mordantly ironic essay is to capture the attention of a disconnected and
indifferent audience. Swift makes his point by stringing together a dreadfully twisted set of morally
untenable positions in order to cast blame and aspersions on his intended audience. Jonathan Swift s A
Modest Proposal employs despicably vivid satire to call for change in a world of abuse and
misfortune. The entire proposal stands as a satire in itself; an analogy paralleling the tyrannical
attitude of the British toward their Irish ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The British have reigned over the Irish so long and so cruelly that they have left Ireland in state of
dependence psychologically, politically, and economically. In other words, the ideology of Protestant
consumption has actually eroded the self confidence and sense of worth of the Irish so badly that it has
left Ireland a nation unable to sustain itself (Mahoney). England is eating up Ireland. But this
tribulation cannot be blamed solely on the British. Swift cleverly condemns the British aristocracy for
their mistreatment of the Irish people while also criticizing the Irish people for allowing this
exploitation. The Irish have done nothing to halt the terrorizing nature of their domineering
counterparts. Swift uses this proposal to the wretched Irish situation (Lockwood). By rigorously
underplaying the aspect of fantasy in his proposal, Swift suggests the Irish have arrived at a condition
in which such a plan may be seriously considered (Lockwood). Booth describes that every detail of
Swift s proposal supports the inference that the woes of Ireland make, indeed, a melancholy Object. In
essence, the anger against the English is used merely to heighten Swift s own dismay over the way
Ireland has conducted itself (Booth). Swift craftily causes readers to question more than just how to
fix the problems in fraught Ireland. Through the supreme verbal irony of his

The Destruction Of Coral Reefs
Few places are as teaming with life as coral reefs. However, this is all soon to change due to human
negligence. Human activity and stupidity is leading to the destruction of the vast majority of coral
reefs and is expected to continue to do so until coral reefs, as well as the species that reside in and
around them, are a thing of the past.
Coral reefs are extremely biologically and environmentally important (7). Not only are they home to
over a million species of fish, invertebrates, and algae currently occupying coral reefs but there could
be hundreds of thousands more species yet to be discovered (8). These reef dwelling species are food
to over a billion people around the globe. Coral is also used as a building material and is a major
tourist attraction, aiding the economies of communities bordering their coasts.
Humans are actively destroying reefs through processes such as destructive fishing, overfishing,
careless tourism, pollution, sedimentation, coral mining, coral bleaching, and global warming.
Destructive fishing destroys coral reefs and hinders their future production of fish and marine life. It
includes poison and explosive fishing. Poison fishing uses chemicals such as cyanide and is used
popularly by aquariums and traders to collect fish without killing them and is very popular in the
Philippines, Indonesia, and the islands of Micronesia. The fish are stunned by the chemicals and
therefore are easier to capture. This method poisons far more than the target

Monody Context
Quetext
About Widget FAQ Contact
The concept of monody was detrimental in the progression of music from the Renaissance era into the
Baroque, shaping operatic arias into what we know them to be. Monody is a musical texture
consisting of a single solo voice, supported by a free instrumental bass line. The voice line is often
simple yet ornate, using embellishments to motivate the ideas of the libretto. Whilst having simple
chordal accompaniment usually played on a lute, harpsichord, guitar or harp the listener can be
focused on the text and meaning of the recitative and aria. Two of the more noteworthy developments
of the transition from the Renaissance era to that of the Baroque, was the step away from choral
music, and the introduction ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The piece is about love, betrayal, death and anguish. You can see in Figure 1 the figured bass and
singular bass line. This is an example of baroque notation and the freedom that the accompanist had in
harmonization and improvisation. Another well known solo madrigal of the Baroque era is Giulio
Caccini s 1602 piece Amarilli mia bella from Le nuove musiche. Caccini spent most of his life in
Florence, Italy said to be the heart of Baroque music. He spent a lot of his time as not just a composer
and singer of the Medici court, but also a spy for the youngest son of the Grand Duke of Tuscany,
Pietro de Medici. Caccini was supported by other Florentine nobles, one being Giovanni de Bardi
leader of the Florentine Camerata . Amarilli, mia bella is an emotive song expressing love for the
singer s betrothed, Amarilli. Based on the Greek myth of Amaryllis, falling in love with Alteus, a
shepherd. Alteus, however, is only interested in the mountainside flowers she is picking and says he
can only fall in love with a girl who brings him a new flower. The story goes Amaryllis takes the
advice of the Delphi Oracle, each night waiting on Alteus doorstep, stabbing

Examples Of Contingency Approach To Management
The contingency approach to management holds that management techniques should be dependent

management is and the key elements of contingency management. Information in depth was gathered
from books, course texts and various reviews and articles.
There are many definitions of leadership. According to The Collins English dictionary defines
leadership as the leader(s) of a party or group. A leader can be anybody; he/she can be the CEO of an
organization, or a first year employee. A leader has the ability to lead through official authority and
power, as often, great leaders lead through inspiring the followers, through personal connection to
those followers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although, this theory s weaknesses are the fact that it is cumbersome to use, as it does not explain
what to do when there is a mismatch between style and situation and it does not take into account
situational variables, which also have an impact in a leader s effectiveness. However, it is used to help
management choose suitable leaders for each work group type. Although, there are doubts on whether
the Least Preferred Co worker scale is a true measure of leadership style and the leadership style lacks
flexibility. A major contribution of Fielder s work is that it has prompted others to conduct studies
about the contingency nature of leadership. The model has also alerted leaders to the importance of
sizing up the situation to gain control. A major problem centers on matching the situation to the leader
(Andrew J. p.142). In most situations, the amount of control the leader exercise varies from time to
time (Andrew J.

Social Work Theories, Methods and Skills
Social Work Theories, Methods and Skills Within this assignment I will recognise what and who is
priority in relation to the case study involving Sharon, Alice and James. I will ascertain and analyse
the models of assessment and look at methods of intervention and identify which is most appropriate
when working with Sharon, Alice and James. I will identify why I have used the theories, methods and
skills that informed the care plan I have used. My main priority would be Sharon and the appointment
her mother, Alice, has made with the GP. Under the Human Rights Act 1998, articles 8, 12 and 14,
Sharon has the right to respect for private and family life, the right to marry and to start a

(Parton and O Byrne, 2000, p. 142). When assessing Sharon I would mainly use the exchange model
and narrative model, as these models involve Sharon and her family fully in the decision making
process. Both Alice and James would be involved in the assessment, at some point, as it engages
everyone within her social network, making a holistic assessment of the situation. It will help form
and maintain relationships with all involved and create trust with open discussions; in the aim it will
ease friction between Sharon and her mother with regards to possible conflict over Sharon s choices,
wants and needs. (Coulshed and Orme, 2006). However due to organisational policies and procedures,
the use of both the questioning model and procedural model can be unavoidable. Workers are trained
to be needs led, but agencies seem to be risk and resource led . (Milner and O Byrne, 2001, p. 261).
On the other hand, the questioning model has roots in psychosocial therapy were congruence, empathy
and unconditional positive regard are key elements and this ethos is also a main factor of the exchange
model. The procedure model has positive aspects in that the format is clear for both the service user
and social worker. This format, adopted at the same time as the exchange model, enables the service
user to have a clear understanding of the process, with clear aims and goals. The

this path certain objectives and targets can be set to further improve the organisations structure. The
objective and targets that may be set can aspire and motivate the workforce. Aims could look at the
company s weaknesses and strengths, the weaknesses can be reduced in the future by choosing
appropriate objectives and the strengths can be further strengthened by setting targets which once

  • 2. Jackson Vs Perseus The story Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief and the Olympians is a similar modern day telling to the Danaüs, Perseus and the Gorgon through events, archetypes and theme. The two heroes in these story go through very similar events. Both Percy Jackson and Perseus fight medusa but in different scenarios. In the text of Perseus s story it says, Perseus swooped down, and with one deft stroke he cut off the Medusa s head. (D aulaires, 118) In Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief, Percy Jackson and his friends fight Medusa in a garden store that is filled with statues. (Percy Jackson) This modernizes the older story because it is more realistic that Medusa would hide in an area full of statues, since Medusa turns people into stone it is a good hiding place for her. They both saved their mom from an evil/bad man. In the text it said, As soon as the king had gotten rid of Perseus, he had tired to carry Danaë. (D aulaires, 120) In Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief this was modernized, Percy Jackson protects his mom from Gabe being a huge jerk. (Percy Jackson) It would make more sense that a husband was being a jerk ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 3. Moral Development In The Chronicles Of Birnia Every individual within a society develops morality, either independently or with the help of other people. For an individual to grow morally, he or she needs knowledge or background information in order to differentiate right from wrong. Moral psychology, is defined in the field of psychology, as the study of the development of the moral sense (Britannica Moral psychology). In other words, it is the capacity for forming judgments about what is morally right or wrong, good or bad. Psychologist Lawrence Kohlberg hypothesized an individual s development of moral standards progresses through various levels. The early level, the child utilizes physical experiences such as pleasure or pain, as the source for moral decisions. At this level, the child s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, consider the possibility that the stakes are significantly higher. Imagine a scenario where the life in danger isn t your own, but someone else s. This is the circumstance Digory finds himself in, approaching the finish of a long journey he spent looking for a cure for his mom, who is at death s door. Digory agreed to complete a mission from Aslan, promising to bring back an enchanted apple that will secure Narnia, for a while, from the shrewdness he had brought into it. Having a sick but present mother, Digory still made mistakes in his journey. Even though he was responsible for releasing Jadis, who almost destroyed Aslan s creation, he showed character and maturity accepting and completing Aslan s task in order to redeem himself. He developed morally by understanding the consequences and taking responsibility for his actions, and helping to bring the solution for the chaos he brought thinking about others ( Role taking ... • 4. Steganography, An Ulterior, And Lesser Known Approach For... Steganography is an ulterior, and lesser known approach to private communication. Steganographic applications work by taking in three things: a cover work; this could be a picture, an audio file, a video file, etc., a message to be embedded, and a stego key; we don t always use one but if we do it is much like an encryption key. Steganography applications will then embed the message into the cover work. This is most commonly performed using a method known as LSB embedding, which I will explain in detail. LSB embedding involves taking the gray scale values of certain pixels, and making sure the LSB, or least significant bit is set to the bit value needed. If we have a gray scale value of 51, or 00110011, and we need to have a 0 embedded at this pixel value, the application will simply change the gray scale value to 50, or 00110010. If the grey scale value already ended in a 0 we would leave it as is. Within LSB embedding are three options for how the pattern of pixels are chosen. The first method; which has the lowest form of security, is sequential. This method embeds the pixels in a sequential manner, for example: left to right, top to bottom. The second method is pseudo (random). This method works exactly as it sounds and simply embeds based on a random pattern, which can be initialized by the stego key provided. The third, and most secure, method is adaptive. Adaptive works intelligently, by first analyzing the cover work and identifying locations where statistical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Alienation of Process according to Karl Marx Karl Marx discusses four forms of alienation and two of the four are equally important in the ongoing production of capitalism: alienation from the process and product one makes. From the alienation of process, the proletariat or maker is just a producer of the product. He does not have any say as to how a product should be made or improved because he is not the owner of the facilities or tools used to make the product. This can be incorporated to a worker in a factory. He or she may be given specific instructions and must follow through with the creation of the product. The entrepreneur, who owns the amenities used to make the product, has power over the labor of the workers. Therefore, entrepreneurs have the say as how the product should be developed. As a result, any completed or incomplete product is left at the hands of the entrepreneur rather than the maker. This leads to another form of alienation known as estrangement. Alienation from the product one makes, or estrangement, refers to the relationship of the manufactured goods and the maker. The proletariat may be able to put value in the product they make, but it does not necessarily mean they own the product. As a result, the higher class, in this case the entrepreneurs, makes revenue of the product produced by the maker. All profit where the workers don t own the means of production is based on exploitation (89). The proletariats, therefore, are mistreated for the entrepreneurs benefit of gaining surplus ... • 6. Importance Of Being At The Right Place Being at the right time at the right place: How to benefit financially? By some estimates, the total number of human beings that have ever lived is about 110 billion, of which approximately 7% are alive today. The world population keeps growing every year, so, statistically, you might say more humans have a chance of being at the right place at the right time than at any given time before, right? Yes and, uh, no. Statistics and big numbers have a powerful way of suggesting the wrong answer. Merely because more people play the lottery certainly does not mean your chance to win increases; only the total amount the winner will take away increases. That is of course unless we change the rules of the game itself. So, what does it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... You might have heard of him. Andrew saw a huge opportunity while working for the railroads, expanding tracks West and South from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Rail tracks and bridges were needed in great numbers all the way to the West Coast. A new, much more efficient process to make a stronger iron had just been invented by Henry Bessemer in the United Kingdom and Andrew Carnegie saw an enormous opportunity in making this new iron called steel from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, close to the iron ore mines and rivers for easy transport. But, the most important factor in deciding to start this business was a law adopted in 1870 supported by the Republican Party, which had the presidency and a majority in Congress. The law was a $28 tariff on imported steel, basically taking out the British competition in one stroke. The tariff was upheld for a good 30 years. You may or may not favor laws like this one, but it is beside the point: it was a Ka Ching moment for Andrew and the other eight steel companies in the United States. They essentially got a license to print cash for themselves. Their timing was right. The rest is history. Andrew Carnegie went on to become one of the wealthiest men ever... only to give it all back to Society. The thinking behind his philanthropy was that he had been given a huge opportunity, largely by the good fortune of being at the right time and the right place. Of course, there is more to it than ... • 7. The Impact Of Transgenders In The Military One of the big questions lurking in the United States is if transgenders can serve in the military. As of right now they are temporarily not allowing transgenders into the military. If they were to allow them there would be many things that they would have to look at. There is things like where would they live to how would be treated. They would have to decide what they would want to do with the ones currently serving. There s just many factors to look at when trying to decide when something like transgenders are becoming so popular in a society like ours today. It all started in 2016 when Barack Obama let transgenders to enroll in the military. Before this time there wasn t any problem with transgender because it just started to become a thing in 2016. Barack Obama signed a policy in 2014 that banned people who were openly gay, lesbian, and bisexuals from being in the military. There was never anything about transgenders. In 2015 things began to change, they now made it so that transgenders could serve. Joe Biden put his input in on what he thought about the situation. He argued that they should be able to serve. He said in a conference that he didn t want to anger anyone currently serving that is transgender. A study was made to see how big of an impact that transgenders would have on the military. They made the prediction that they would cost little and have no significant impact on unit readiness. In 2016 they made it so that transgenders would no longer be separated ... The grumbling of a roof peeling apart , said Ana Veciana Suarez, as she remembers one of the worst, fiercest, and most powerful storm to hit South Florida, Hurricane Andrew. On August 24, 1992, Category 5 Hurricane Andrew came through and devastated South Florida turning its full forces on Miami Dade county. The aftermath of this hurricane was completely unbelievable and devastating, being that it was the most high priced storm ever recorded in United States History. Rebuilding the community took several years and even after everything was rebuilt, citizens of South Florida, would never forget Hurricane Andrew. Summary Of America Needs It Nerds America Needs It Nerds by Leonid Fridman talks about how the American society looks down on geeks or the intellectually curious and academically serious people. Fridman believes that if America continues to do this it will lead to a negative on how other countries look at us. Leonid Fridman made his argument using ethos, cause and effect, rhetorical questions, and pathos. In this passage Fridman started off in the second paragraph using ethos to develop his argument. He cites Webster s new World Dictionary definition of a geek, which is the word society uses to describe academically serious individuals. The definition given is a street performer who shocks the public by biting off heads of live chickens. This question can strike the American patriot readers or people that hold America in a high estate. Lastly, Leonid Fridman used Pathos to develop his argument. This whole passage gives the intellectual curious and academically serious people a voice. A reader who has dealt with being excluded from society and looked down on as a freak will now feel as though their voice will be heard. • 13. Renaissance And The Italian Renaissance The Italian Renaissance had two distinct periods during its lifetime. The first being the Early Renaissance , which took place between the late 13th and the early 14th centuries. The second period was known as the High Renaissance , which took place during the 15th and 16th centuries. These two periods had very distinct foundations and styles behind the art and architecture of their respective periods. Architects and designers such as Brunelleschi, Alberti, and Rossellino were absolutely obsessed with designing and engineering building with perfect symmetry, proportions, and with ample amounts of geometry. These architectural styles can be seen in the Pazzi Chapel (to the left), which was designed by the famous Filippo Brunelleschi. The Palazzo Rucellai (to the right) (designed by Alberti and architected by Rossellino) in Florence, Italy is another example of architectural uniformity during the Early Renaissance. Proportions can be clearly seen throughout the exterior of the building and reflects Roman architecture, which Alberti admired heavily. The most complex and most high profile masterpieces and artists to come out of the Italian Renaissance came during the 15th and 16th centuries, which was also known as the High Renaissance. The architectural and artistic styles of the Early Renaissance essentially laid the foundations for the High Renaissance period of art and architecture. These styles were mostly perfected during the High Renaissance. One such example of perfected art is the most famous portrait known as the Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci. • 14. Should Books Be Banned From Libraries Essay How would you like it if you needed a book for research or if you really liked a certain type of books and they were banned? Books like The Outsiders could be banned for censored information about drugs and alcohol. Libraries have been debating this problem for a long time to get a rule on censorship or no censorship. Censoring in libraries is a big problem. People don t know if certain books should be banned from libraries, and libraries don t know what would be censored and what wouldn t be censored. I don t think books should be banned from libraries because they can show you what not to do and be used for research topics, how would libraries decide what is censored and what isn t, or they could be something that some reader like that others don t like. Censorship should not be put in place because some of the book that are censored my be historic and help people see what not to repeat in life. Books like the one Hitler wrote should not be censored because they show society how to not act and how we can not repeat history. Some old books can be used for research purposes for students and teachers. They can show people helpful things that some people don t understand. These are types of books that could be censored, used in other ways than just for bad use. This Is why books should not be censored because many that would be, contain valuable historic content. Books in libraries should not be censored because of the historic value of the books. I think some drama and romance books that might be censored shouldn t be because some people like that stuff. Romance books like Fifty Shades of Gray might be liked by some people and we shouldn t take away types of books that some people enjoy. Books that tell about very gory and violent things people still like so we shouldn t take away those books. If we took away some drama, romance, or violent books, where would the line be to have them be acceptable? Just because they shouldn t be read by young readers doesn t mean they should be taken away. Parents of the young readers can just tell them not to read the book. They can tell their children not to go to that certain section. Albeit, the Munster s in their first show since 1964 was a good regalement to the people. This essay will be comparing and contrasting two of the exhibitions relinquished by The Munster s one in 1964 and the other in 2012: their apparel, their way of interacting with people, and their abode. The Munster s clothing changes in a dramatic way from their show in 1964 to 2012In the Munsters Masquerade the characters would wear apparel that wasn t unorthodox to mundane people. Their habiliments looked old and jaded. Albeit, in Mockingbird Lane the characters were wearing very elegant cloth compared to their old show. Their cloth in the exhibition plays a sizable voluminous consequentiality because it represents the character that is playing the role. Their way of interacting with people showed how different they were in their behavior to normal humans. • 17. Water Hardness Of Water Solubility Not all water is alike. In fact, water contains minerals that change its properties. According to the University of Washington in St. hard water is hard water is water that contains cations with a charge of +2, especially Ca2+ and Mg2+ 1. Water picks up these Ca2+ and Mg2+ cations as it moves through soil and interacts with sedimentary rock undergoing a process known as dissolution. Water hardness values can be represented in numerous ways, including milligrams per liter, parts per million, and grains per gallon. The water hardness value becomes greater with the increase in concentration of these cations2. The water hardness in State College, PA is rather high due to the location of the town being on a large amount of limestone3. Water hardness is significant because of the effect it can have in our homes but more importantly industries. Water hardness has an effect on the efficiency of soap and can leave mineral deposits on your dishes. The biggest problems that water hardness creates are these mineral deposits that it leaves behind. These mineral deposits are known as scale formation. When water is boiled and evaporates, this solid substance called scale forms. It most commonly hardens on pipes, tubes, large industrial boilers, and other appliances. Scale blocks the flow of water and clogs pipes, decreases heat transfer efficiency in boilers, and can lead to weakness in structures. Hence, other alternative method has been proposed to facilitate the production of the APE for vitreoretinal surgery; 1 hour before surgery a sample of the patient s blood is centrifuged and incubated with streptokinase. This rhetorical skill is artfully used by Jonathan Swift in his pamphlet A Modest Proposal. The main argument for this mordantly ironic essay is to capture the attention of a disconnected and indifferent audience. Swift makes his point by stringing together a dreadfully twisted set of morally untenable positions in order to cast blame and aspersions on his intended audience. In other words, the ideology of Protestant consumption has actually eroded the self confidence and sense of worth of the Irish so badly that it has left Ireland a nation unable to sustain itself (Mahoney). England is eating up Ireland. But this tribulation cannot be blamed solely on the British. Swift cleverly condemns the British aristocracy for their mistreatment of the Irish people while also criticizing the Irish people for allowing this exploitation. The Irish have done nothing to halt the terrorizing nature of their domineering counterparts. Swift uses this proposal to the wretched Irish situation (Lockwood). By rigorously underplaying the aspect of fantasy in his proposal, Swift suggests the Irish have arrived at a condition in which such a plan may be seriously considered (Lockwood). Booth describes that every detail of Swift s proposal supports the inference that the woes of Ireland make, indeed, a melancholy Object. In essence, the anger against the English is used merely to heighten Swift s own dismay over the way Ireland has conducted itself (Booth). Human activity and stupidity is leading to the destruction of the vast majority of coral reefs and is expected to continue to do so until coral reefs, as well as the species that reside in and around them, are a thing of the past. Coral reefs are extremely biologically and environmentally important (7).
