Cause And Effect Of Cocaine
One of the most detrimental and addictive narcotics in the world today is cocaine. Cocaine dates back
as early as 3000 BC. Ancient Incas used the coca leaves to counter the effects of living in thin
mountain air. Native Peruvians in the 1500 s chewed the plant strictly for religious ceremonies.
Andean Indians are believed to chew the leaves of the coca plant to increase their energy for work
while decreasing their hunger and pain. It wasn t until 1859 when a German chemist Albert Niemann
successfully extracted the narcotic from the coca leaf. In the 1880 s, it was freely prescribed by
physicians for maladies as exhaustion, depression, and morphine addiction and was available in many
patent medicines ( Cocaine ), until users and doctors began to realize its dangers and side effects.
While it was not fully understood at the time, cocaine has many devastating and lasting effects on the
user.
Today, cocaine is commonly derived from the coca plant that is most commonly grown in Columbia
but also Peru and Bolivia. It is harvested and processed into a coca paste which the base of is extracted
and turned into the white powder form of cocaine. Once the powder is made it is often mixed with
laundry detergent, laxatives, or boric acid to cut down the potency and have more to distribute.
Cocaine can be used snorting, smoking, injecting or swallowed. The United States outlawed cocaine
in the early 1920 s but it wasn t until the 1970 s and middle of the 1980 s that cocaine was at

Analysis Of The Crash
Crash! Bryan Song 7A Crash. Jack couldn t stand any more of this. It had just been a normal school
day, but now he was running from an army of crazed robots. He could smell the smoke coming from
behind him, all the buildings getting burnt. Tony, his friend, had also gotten into this trouble, but he
was fast and was well ahead of him. He was slowing down, and he could hear the robo s heavy
machinery behind him. Jack its 12 minutes to 8!! Get up lazy pig! said his sister, Stacie. Shut up, I was
going to get up, replied jack as he sauntered out his door. His dad had passed out last year dude to a
car accident, and his mom was working in another city. So the only close family member he had was
his sister, who was 21 years old, 7 years older than him. He crawled out of his bed, put on some
clothes, grabbed his bag, and trudged out the door. Jack had not been eating breakfast for a long time,
so he was used to it. He heard his teachers say that not eating breakfast was bad for him, and he should
eat breakfast, which could help him do better at school and on tests. As he walked down the street to
the bus stop, he met Tony, who lived across the street from him. They got on the bus together and
started talking about last night s football game, and how the Patriots beat the Ravens. On the way to
school, Jack saw a mysterious looking store that wasn t there last week, before the weekend. It had
back signs all across the windows so they couldn t see the inside. There was a

The Philippine Insurrection
The Philippine Insurrection of 1899 1902 was a little different than most insurgencies. Using Mao s 3
phases of an insurgency, which I will break down below.
The native demand for liberation from Spain had been building since the 1880s. In 1892 a poor
warehouseman by the name of Andres Bonifacio organized a group called the Katiunan, hoping to
drive the Spaniard s out of the Philippines. As in other insurgencies, we are seeing groups coming
together for the same objective, but not all insurgent groups get along. In 1896 after a reign of terror
against the islanders, Emilio Aguinaldo, a rival group leader, took over leadership by having Bonifacio
executed. The insurgency was forced into the hills, but the fighting continued. The people wanted
Spain out and supported an independent Philippines. In 1897 Spain paid Aguinaldo off to stop the
fighting and sent him to Hong Kong. This put the insurgency back into survival mode and brought a
temporary peace.
Aguinaldo made a pact with the United States which was at war with Spain at the time. With the
assistance of Commodore Dewey they were able to have a decisive victory over the Spanish in
Manila. June 12th then became Philippine Independence Day in 1898. The Americans seemed
reluctant to leave and in December Spain formally ceded the Philippines to the United States in the
Paris Peace Treaty. In January 1899 Aguinaldo staged an inauguration of the First Philippine Republic.
This was an uneasy peace, because what was

Ragtime Essay
Ragtime Essay In the novel, Ragtime, E. L. Doctorow writes about the lower and upper class areas,
during the early 1900 s. He includes specific details of events that take place, but more importantly
certain characters that within the novel. Doctorow implies a main theme throughout the book that
ultimately applies to all the characters. This theme is the idea of escaping. Whether it is escaping from
a certain person, a specific event, or a particular place, the theme is addressed with the idea of
avoiding some undeniable problem. Characters in the story help underline this specific problem of
how to escape and with that comes historically important factors the developed during the early 1900
s. Through the characters in his book, Doctorow, brings alive the history of the early 1900 s, as well as
concentrating the theme of the time period, escaping. The key problems of the period in Ragtime are
racism, the growth of sexual nature in society, the always changing modern America, and ... Show

This problem formulates so many problematic situations during the 1900 s that I doubt anyone ever
thought it would disappear. Doctorow brings to life the character of Coalhouse Walker to illustrate the
awfulness of discrimination against Blacks during this time. Coalhouse Walker was a black pianist
with mannerisms that did not fit the mold of him being an African American with a high class
reputation. His social position was not all that low and because of that many did not like him. His
sense of pride and how he does not act or talk like a colored man was believed to be atypical of how
African Americans were supposed act during the time period. The way he acts in the novel is
repeatedly in conflict with others expectations of how African Americans are supposed to act. The
African Americans of this time only wanted to escape from the boxes they were put in and be seen as
equal

International Mathematics And Science Study
Many students in the United States are not ready to compete in a society that demands critical
thinking, the ability to problem solve, and to work with others (Team Pennsylvania Foundation, 2011).
Team Pennsylvania Foundation has reported sub par performance on state mandated high school
assessments suggesting that our classroom instruction lacks the rigor required to ensure student
success on these exams (2011). In 1957, the launch of Sputnik marked the need for the United States
to take a serious look at the education provided to its children (Powell, 2007). The next 30 years
ushered a renewed emphasis on mathematics and science in schools across the country. Focus centered
on systemic changes to curriculum and improving instructional techniques. Schools increased
expectations to meet the realized needs of a nation ready to take the next technological step (Thomas,
2013).
Nearly 40 years later, the effectiveness of the United States educational system again came into
question. The launch of the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) in 1995
measured student performance in mathematics and literacy worldwide. Twelfth grade students in the
United States ranked among the lowest in the world (Schmidt, 2012). While the United States
demonstrated growth ranking in the top 36%, just 9 years later many of the countries that participated
in the first study chose not to participate in the follow up study. Schmidt (2012) theorized that the

How Traditional Anishinaabe Medicine Can Be Integrated...
When the culture of the Anishinaabe, or Ojibwe, people were suppressed when colonization began in
the Americas, their medical practices were as well. In an effort to preserve the Ojibwe culture as well
as establish effective treatment options for people living on reservations as well as members of Ojibwe
communities, Anishinaabe cultures should be incorporated into the clinical setting.
When working with different cultures in a health environment, it is necessary to have an
understanding of that culture as different perspectives and values will have an effect on their medical
care. Therefore, an understanding of Anishinaabe medicinal practices is crucial when considering the
prevention and treatment of illnesses in the Anishinaabe community. Since traditional methods are not
practiced in American healthcare, how information is perceived in the population as well as inclination
to comply with different treatments are affected. How traditional practices can be incorporated in a
Western healthcare setting as well as the challenges that exist in doing so will be evaluated.
To begin to assess the different ways that traditional Anishinaabe medicine can be integrated into
Western medicine, how the Anishinaabe culture was affected by colonization must be discussed. The
cause of an illness is fundamental to determine how to treat it. There are two kinds of illnesses that
differ in how they are treated as well as their etiology.
One is white man s sickness , which include diseases

Rhetorical Techniques In Fight Club
Lit Analysis Paper In Chuck Palahniuk s novel Fight Club the main character is in fact never named
throughout the book. He s never called by his name or even speaks of it. We re forced to view in the
3rd person, the events and life of this character and the battle he endeavors with insomnia and the
suspicions friends that he meets. Tyler Durden comes along when the narrator is in need of a friend
and turns out being a terrible influence, but is his closest friend. It was his idea to start the fight club to
let out frustrations and anger of everyday guys that want to walk into their boss s office and upper cut
them. Palahniuk s usage of imagery, diction, and foreshadowing shows the physical, and
psychological, battle that the narrator is enduring. The title of the novel suggest that the entirety of the

Its the bridge that connects one idea to another. All night long I was dreaming I was humping Marla
Singer. (56). This is the first noticeable piece of foreshadowing in the novel when you re left confused,
why was it written in the first place. The narrator claims to have a strong dislike for Marla, that is
reaffirmed in later pages of the book. It was written to show the split of the narrator s psyche. How the
narrator is slowly deteriorating mentally from holding in two personalities and the other one being
strongly destructive. The erosion to his mental stability is also evident with the little tangents that the
narrator takes that often show how out of touch he is. The imagery to foreshadowing connection is not
uncommon in Fight Club, is a strategy that is comfortable for Palahniuk to use to get his point across;
only after you cross a very winding road to eventually get to his point of intent. The intent is so
noticeable when you realize it. You feel stupid you didn t see it before, was just so well

The Disappearance Of Childhood By Neil Postman
Even though childhood has change for the better there is an argument stating that childhood is
disappearing at a dazzling speed (Postman, 1996) says that there is a closing gap between childhood
and adulthood. Neil Postman (1996) claims this in his book The Disappearance of Childhood .
Postman theory was purely based on the way that communications through technology were made
which shapes society today. He thinks that due to the technology such as television and the Internet
children nowadays are much likely to have more access to the adult world , thus childhood to be
disappearing (Postman, 1982). He claims its Frankenstein Syndrome consequence of the mass media
is mainly the responsible for the usage of television, and the social media. Palmer (2007) parallels this
study with Postman (1982) and thinks that parents tend to use technology such as television and
electronic games to keep their children occupied and to be quiet due to their busyness or maybe too
preoccupied by consumerism to give the children the traditional childhood. The book makes durable
case for the traditional values and through her study has noticed that children need to develop skills
such as developing their focus. She also recommends real food rather the ones high in sugar and more
fish oil, eaten at family meals. Another study has also been made by Pugh (2002) he proposes that
parents that spends time with and on their children is consumption as compensation . The parents who

Credibility Was A Strength For Me
1.) Credibility was a strength for me. The books illustrates that to present with professional
excellence, you must demonstrate credibility and help your audience believe you and the information
or argument you are presenting (250). I felt I did a good job in the way I explained my experience in
the music industry and how I ve been successful. I didn t just rush into my main points and I allowed
the audience to believe what I am saying is credible. Secondly, the design an informative speech I felt
was another strength of mine. The book says try to incorporate a variety of supporting material such as

The book explains, a well designed conclusion can elevate a presentation from average to excellent,
whereas a poor conclusion can make an otherwise excellent presentation fall flat (279) . This is
something I need to work on because I feel I did great explaining my main points but from watching
the video and putting myself in the perspective of the audience I realized my ending was very weak. I
was to focused on memorizing the main points and details that I forgot about my conclusion. The
books makes great points that in order to allow the audience to know when a conclusion is coming
phrases like In conclusion , In summary , As I close , or I would like to end with can all be good
transition phrases. One more weakness I would say was the lack of research to support my ideas. In
regards to how to gather a speech the book says the research you need in order to develop and support
your presentation can and should come from a variety of sources. Depending on the topic, you must
use internal sources, external sources, or a combination of two (272) From watching the video I felt I
used to many internal sources and not enough external sources. I was disappointed because I had
many sources at hand but I didn t mention them as much as I would have liked because I was so
worried about forgetting my body of the speech. In order to improve this I will have a sheet in front of

Analysis Of 24-Hour Psycho
Clearly heavily influenced by Douglas Gordon s 24 Hour Psycho, Don DeLillo decidedly creates a
somewhat parallel universe in which Jim Finley, the protagonist of Point Omega partakes in
voyeuristic acts and shares many odd similarities with 24 Hour Psycho s Norman Bates that illustrate
Finley as a clone of Bates, allowing the reader (and watcher) to understand both personas from a more
understanding perspective. The novella Point Omega immediately alludes to 24 Hour Psycho as the
epilogue presents a scene in which an anonymous voice we later confirm as Finley, explains his
ongoing thoughts and experience with the film playing in the background. We are able to observe
DeLillo s interest in 24 Hour Psycho which translates then into his character Finley, who displays his
captivation with the film through his own film. Finley is an aspiring filmmaker who seeks out Richard
Elster, a retired strategist during the Iraq War to star in his upcoming film project. During his time
spent learning about Elster s past, he stays with Elster in an under furnished house in the middle of the
desert, one with a scarcity of clocks or other time telling machines so that his time spent there is
literally immeasurable. And even within his own film, Finley allocates a lot of freedom for the
duration of his film. Once Elster begins sharing his experiences regarding the war and life as a whole,
Finley then turns his concern, or lack thereof, to the film s running time because to him, it could be

Examples Of Satire In Candide

Ms. Kalick/Carlton Candide s Garden Candide is a satire written by Voltaire. Voltaire wrote it to poke
fun at Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz s idea of philosophical optimism, the belief that we live in the best of
all worlds. Voltaire disagreed with this philosophy, a philosophy which Dr. Pangloss, a character from
the satire, strongly believes in. Another philosophy that is stated in the satire is Candide s, but let us
cultivate our garden . To cultivate [a] garden means to improve ourselves through open mindedness
and adaptation. One way you can improve yourself is by being open to new ideas. Candide does this

Sustainability and Urban Development
Sustainability and Development
Introduction
Sustainable development and sustainability have been the focus of many researchers in various
disciplines for quite some time now. The current distribution of natural resources and their allocation
is modeled on an infinite growth assumption. The mainstream economic perspective assumes that the
market will allocate resources in the most efficient way possible. Yet there are many externalities that
often left out of this model such as clean air, clean water, and the carrying capacity of the Earth s
natural systems. For example, when someone used oil as a source of fuel, the pollution from its use is
not counted in the standard economic perspective. Furthermore, the fact that oil is a nonrenewable
resource is also not effectively included in these models.
Sustainable development incorporates various social and economic objectives that try to optimize the
use of natural resources in the society. It is a broad topic but is centered on trying to make the most
efficient use of the resources that are available while also ensuring that there are resources available
for future generations. The main objective of sustainable development is to achieve a reasonable and
equitable distribution of resources that can offer a high level of well being for all generations; those
that are currently alive and those are yet to be born. In order to achieve sustainability, the society and
the planet as a whole has to have the regenerative ability to

Asian American Population And Asian Americans
The Asian American population is a major facet of American life; beginning their lives as immigrants
they have worked their way to become integral members of society. In 2010 there were 14.7 million
Asian Americans living in the United States and in 2011 that number increased to 18.2 million.1
Culturally, Asian American people have traditions and beliefs that contradict those of the Western
world.2 Culture molds people s values, attitudes, and beliefs; influences their perceptions of self and
others; and determines the way they experience their environment. 10 As a result there are certain
barriers that exist when communicating with Asian Americans due to their cultural background.
Additionally, Asians living in America suffer from the Model Minority Myth, which typecasts these
people as being financially and educationally well off in comparison to other ethnic groups.2 Due to
this Asian Americans aren t considered more at risk for many health risks compared to other
ethnicities; cultural and physical barriers act as a hindrance to Asian Americans receiving healthcare
services, primarily mental health related services.
According to Spencer et al. Asian Americans often stigmatize mental health. As a result many
individuals forgo taking advantage of mental health services because it promotes cultural feelings of
shame or embarrassment.2 The article analyzed the connection between discrimination and the usage
of mental health services on a national sample of Asian Americans.

People’s Experiences of Death and Dying Are Profoundly...
Introduction
People s experiences of death and dying are profoundly affected by social and cultural differences.
Socio economic factors such as standard of living, economic infrastructure, diet, environmental
disasters, war, sexual pervasiveness, disease etc all interconnect to affect the way in which they frame
an individual s experience of death and dying. The unequal distribution of resource throughout the
world and the differing levels of food shortage, disease, war and natural disasters need to be taken into
account when considering how health care workers can improve the needs of people who are dying.
Culture, identity and personal beliefs all have a profound impact on an individual s choices in the
context of the dying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They should not see the elderly as a burden and think only in terms of medicating the elderly. They
need to challenge the view that Good death is when a person grows old and dies peacefully (Block 1,
Unit 3, page 116). Health care workers need to have appropriate training to identify the many unmet
social needs of the elderly and provide better access to palliative care. Rather than seeking solely to
provide a peaceful death, they should also look to provide a dignified death and provide the best level
of care they can offer to the elderly patient taking into account the patients social and emotional care
needs and observing their personal choices.
Cultural differences
We live in an increasingly multicultural world, with global inequalities and world events such as
natural disasters and wars. This means that we are surrounded by many different competing and
challenging ideas about a good death (Block 1, Unit 4, page 120). Trying to recognise different
attitudes, beliefs and cultural practices could assist those caring for the dying and could contribute
towards greater equality (Block 1, Unit 5, page 120).
In the audio for Block 1, Unit 5, Activity 5.3 Nurat describes her father s death in the family home in
Bradford. She talks about her cultural background and the importance of family members caring for
the dying person rather than leaving them in a care home or hospice. For Nurat, visiting

Los Angeles Riots Sociology
The Los Angeles riots in 1992 did not stem from the beating of Rodney King but stemmed from a
much larger problem. Individuals were frustrated with being placed in a social hierarchy based on the
color of their skin. The beating of Rodney King was the cherry on top for the bottled up frustration
people felt. In the United States, there is a social hierarchy, and the judicial system works differently
depending on where the individual is placed within the hierarchy. The riots were a non constructive
way to fight for equal rights within the judicial system, but many individuals were fed up with society
telling them where they should be placed. A social hierarchy has existed since the beginning of time.

Suppressing negative emotions can cause mental health concerns, but individuals with low social
power and low social status may use these strategies to avoid conflict (Langner, Social Hierarchy And
Depression: The Role Of Emotion Suppression ). The social hierarchy affects mental health in part
through a process of emotion suppression. It also does not help that some scholars suggest that the
more individuals aim at climbing the social hierarchy, the more society s hierarchy gets strong
(Bardoscia, The Social Climbing Game ). Pepi Leistyna states in her Social Class and Entertainment
television article that there are harsh realities that the poor and working class of color face, but
television and other media outlets show that the middle class is open to everyone (Leistyna 3). The
middle class has not been open to everyone, and the social hierarchy that has been the unwritten law
of where an individual is placed in society can explain this. The hierarchy is not only destructive for
individuals of color, but even European females and European families who have not came from
money. It is a frustrating reality that seems never to be changing and only getting worse. The country
is dividing into the two extremes. There is the rich who are getting richer and the poor who are getting
poorer. The majority of individuals who are getting poorer are

Classical Approach To Utilitarianism
2.1. Classical approach
The Classical approach for utilitarianism has two main prominent thinkers who are Jeremy Bentham
and John Stuart Mills.
Jeremy Bentham s concept of Utilitarianism
The concept of Utilitarianism was developed by Jeremy Bentham (1748 1832). He belonged to the
positivist school of Jurisprudence. According to him every human life is governed by two hedonistic
principles that is pleasure and pain. He believed that every individual tries to maximize his own and
pleasure and also decrease pain as much as possible. Although it would seem an individualistic
perspective but he also applied this principle to the society as a whole. According to him the role of
every government in the society is to maximize the greatest good of the greatest number. He also ...

He placed weight on the effectiveness of internal sanctions like guilt and remorse which serve to
regulate our actions. He believed that humans are those sorts which have social feelings, feelings for
others and are not only selfish. We care about people around us and when one inflicts harm over the
other then it leads to a painful experience in us. One feels guilty for what one has done. With this he
argued that conscience and sense of justice are emotions present in every human being through which
comes the sense which involves a desire to punish those who have harmed others.
Just like Bentham Mill also sought to reform law and social policy with his theory of utilitarianism.
The aim of increasing happiness underlies his argument of women s suffrage and free speech. It can be
seen best in his arguments regarding social status of women. He argued that it was important to
improve the status of women because they were capable of these cultivated faculties, and denying
them access to education and other facilities for development is resulting in a significant loss of source
of happiness for the

P1 is a regular Preset potentiometer and adjusts a wide range of temperature for this circuit. We use a

R1 is a security resistor just in case the trimmer pot P1 is adjusted all the way to 0 ohms. At which

R3 is the feedback resistor. The op amp is working in inverting mode. If we would not put any

oscillation and makes operation of comparator stable.

George Orwell 1984 Essay
1984 Final Paper
It was terribly dangerous to let your thoughts wander when you were in any public place or within
range of a telescreen. The smallest thing could give you away, (Orwell, 79). The quotation above is
from George Orwell s 1984. The meaning behind this is that totalitarian governments cause others to
always feel like their actions are being watched. Because of this, those people feel very paranoid since
they aren t doing whatever the norm is. George Orwell wrote 1984 to show readers that dictatorships
are only harmful and cause many people to be fearful of their every move, and they still exist today.

The character Big Brother is the leader of the Party and everyone follows his rule, just like how today
people have a leader or form of government. In 1984, Big Brother is a dictator, which an example of is
what North Korea is like with Kim Jong un as a singular ruler over the citizens. This example means
that George Orwell was trying to make a novel that would continue for years to explain the dangers of
only having one person making the decisions for the people of their country. Another reason for
including dictatorships and the issues with them was to make sure that all readers for generations to
come would notice that their life was not very different from the life that the people in 1984 were
living in. There were telescreens that watched the members of the Party s every move and making sure
that they were not going against their country in any way. The novel, 1984, includes the telescreens as
an example of what life is like for all citizens today because the leaders of the country can always
have access to anything people do on their technology. The example above shows Orwell wanting to
make the book something that everyone for generations could relate with technology constantly
advancing. George Orwell is also trying to show the reader that the government can constantly see
whatever is being done, and the leaders say it is in order to keep the countries safe. The author is

The Azusa Street Revival By William J. Seymour
What if Fire at Azusa never happened

HISTORY OF CHRISTIANITY II:
THE REFORMATION AND MODERN CHURCH
HIST 0562
INSTRUCTOR: REV. DR. RON KYDD 13th April 2015
Mail Box # 344
The Azusa Street Revival was a historical Pentecostal revival meeting that occurred in Los Angeles,
California and is the beginning of the Pentecostal movement. It was run by William J. Seymour, an
African American minister. It started with a meeting on April 9, 1906, and proceeded until about 1915.
The revival was portrayed by euphoric spiritual encounters joined by miracles, speaking in tongues,
inter racial socialising during worship services. The members were criticized by media and
theologians for their behaviour as it was considered as outrageous and unorthodox, particularly at the
time. Today, the restoration is considered by historians to be the essential push for the spread of
Pentecostalism in the 20th century. This paper will aim to analyze how history may have unfolded if it
had not happened, it will be examining the event and setting it in context that how it has impacted the
history of Christianity for the reformation and modern Church. It will analyze how this event impacted
the historic Pentecostal movement. Being born and bought up in Christian Orthodox Church, for a
long time I could not understand the real meaning of Pentecostalism, but things changed dramatically
in my life, and so did my theology about Church. Throughout the year I have learnt a

The Design Philosophy Of Antoni Rovira I Trias
The Sant Antoni Market is one of the most popular and architecturally brilliant markets in Barcelona.
Originally designed by Antoni Rovira i Trias, an architect and urban planner who publically favored
the destruction of walls in Barcelona and supported free growth in the city. Trias was a very outspoken
architect and called for a change in the way Barcelona should be urbanized and he actually won the
competition, in 1859, for the design of the expansion of the city. However, the central Spanish
government in Madrid favored Cerda s plan instead. Nevertheless, Trias continued with his work as an
architect and he designed the markets of La Concepcio in 1885, the Born in 1873, and most
importantly for this research paper, the San Antoni market completed in 1882. Throughout this
research paper, I will be analyzing the design philosophy of Rovira i Trias in his works particularly the

were the major users of the market at first because it was right in the middle of everything so it was
easy to get to and it had everything they needed. They would either use the market or go by the market
every day and the sidewalks would be packed with people. Eventually, the market began seeing some
international interest. When people from other countries would travel to Barcelona they would either

Middle of the World, Territory of Complexity Essay
With current advancement involving technological, and biological warfare all over the earth, the world

apparently cause a world war if it is not solved, The Israeli Palestinian conflict can overflow onto the

Israel does certainly have the right to defend itself from the heavy opposition. It is a volatile situation
when any nation can cause violence for having different beliefs. Nonetheless the definition of one s
rights varies from different countries. Israel is outnumbered, yet still manages to survive, although, the
threat is not gone. Many nations surrounding the Jewish State condemn the close relationship between
the United States and Israel because the United States has contributed to the preservation of the Jewish
nation. The Arab resistance yearns to take total dominion over the west bank of Israel. Although Israel
is a small nation by itself, people opposing Israel say that the Israelis are nothing short of military
bullies. Israel is known for their military might and success in preserving there nation. Their defense
program is state of the art and far above other surrounding nations. Yet the potential of rogue nations
containing nuclear capabilities are substantial. Some of the Arabian fighters are not all radicalized but
are angered victims of having family members becoming casualties of war. Israel also while trying to
defend itself, occasionally contribute to the unfortunate casualty victims. Naturally they would oppose
Israel for taking away their sons and daughters, mothers and fathers, and also friends.

Corruption in Corporate America
Corruption in Corporate America As said in every economics class, the reason every business goes
into business is to make money. The same can be said in criminal cases involving businesses. In the
majority of cases, executives and people highly ranked in the company tend to bend the numbers in
the financial/accounting areas of the business or corporation. They do not do this for fun, but rather to
make money. Something needs to be done before corporations really get out of hand. Thankfully, after
the Enron Corporation scandal, the government has recently started to crack down on corporations and
pay more attention to what they are doing. This is due to the extent of what Enron Corp did for so
long. From approximately 1996 to 2001, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

themselves. If they were able to build up the company, they obviously are intelligent minds and more

so many people are affected. Millions of people lost so much money and too many lost their life
savings just because the people at the top of Enron were greedy. It seems as though the government is
taking small steps in the right direction. However, I feel that more needs to be done especially because
some of these companies are funding and supplying potential terrorists. That is just outrageous and
shows the extent of what people will do to make money. This is difficult to control and monitor but
more steps need to be made. Hopefully the politicians and others of the future will recognize this ever
growing problem and solve it for the companies to

Similarities Between Old English And Modern English
English went on a long and vigorous adventure to have become the vast language that we know, speak
and read today. In this essay, the differences and similarities between Old English and Modern English
will be discussed by referring to an extract of Matthew 2: 4 10 from The Gospel of Saint Matthew in
West Saxon: edited from the manuscripts by James Wilson Bright (1910:5 6). In the discussion there
will be referred to the differences and similarities in orthography, spelling, vocabulary and syntax.
Conclusions will also be made about the nature of these chances as they occurred in the adventure
from Old English to Modern English. The extract of Matthew 2:4 10 can be placed between the year

Quite a few of the Old English vocabulary can still be found in the Modern English we speak and read
today, it is just the spelling that differ is some places. Therefore, if read from a vocabulary perspective,
there are familiar words, for example, awriten which is written , læst is last , forð is forth , steorra is
star , etc. These are words which seems familiar, but because of the various influences and where
English comes from there is differences and unfamiliar words. Modern English differ from Old
English because as the language grew it took in more words and replaced old versions of words
(2011:22). For example, the word sacerda which means priests is from the Latin word sacerdos and
folc and ic is Germanic words for people and I . There are also words from Anglo Saxon, like heretoga

Congress Passed The Budget Control Act
On August 2, 2011, Congress passed the Budget Control Act (BCA) of 2011 which cut $487 billion
from projected defense spending over the next 10 years.1 The act also established a system of
sequestration, which would cut an additional $495 billion from the defense budget.2 Altogether, the
BCA would cut almost $1 trillion dollars from the Department of Defense (DoD). The passing of the
BCA and the subsequent loss of funding mark an end to a 13 year period of robust budget allocations
to support the global war on terrorism. From 2001 to 2013 over $1.6 trillion has been allocated to the
DoD to support preparations for and execution of operations in various overseas areas.3 Within this
$1.6 trillion, 94% of the funding was allocated to support operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.4 This
robust amount of funding cultivated a culture within the DoD that there would always be funding
available to cover costs at home and abroad. This culture is deeply entrenched within the United States
Army due to large budgets provided to the Army over the past 13 years. In today s environment of
shrinking budgets, this culture can no longer stand true and must be changed. Establishing a cost
conscious culture (CCC) within the Army is critical to our ability to sustain the current Army force
structure and make the needed modernization investments to ensure our capability to fight and win our
nations wars.
Our world continues to remain a violent, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous environment.

  • 3. Cause And Effect Of Cocaine One of the most detrimental and addictive narcotics in the world today is cocaine. Cocaine dates back as early as 3000 BC. Ancient Incas used the coca leaves to counter the effects of living in thin mountain air. Native Peruvians in the 1500 s chewed the plant strictly for religious ceremonies. Andean Indians are believed to chew the leaves of the coca plant to increase their energy for work while decreasing their hunger and pain. It wasn t until 1859 when a German chemist Albert Niemann successfully extracted the narcotic from the coca leaf. In the 1880 s, it was freely prescribed by physicians for maladies as exhaustion, depression, and morphine addiction and was available in many patent medicines ( Cocaine ), until users and doctors began to realize its dangers and side effects. While it was not fully understood at the time, cocaine has many devastating and lasting effects on the user. Today, cocaine is commonly derived from the coca plant that is most commonly grown in Columbia but also Peru and Bolivia. It is harvested and processed into a coca paste which the base of is extracted and turned into the white powder form of cocaine. Once the powder is made it is often mixed with laundry detergent, laxatives, or boric acid to cut down the potency and have more to distribute. • 5. Analysis Of The Crash Crash! Bryan Song 7A Crash. Jack couldn t stand any more of this. It had just been a normal school day, but now he was running from an army of crazed robots. He could smell the smoke coming from behind him, all the buildings getting burnt. Tony, his friend, had also gotten into this trouble, but he was fast and was well ahead of him. He was slowing down, and he could hear the robo s heavy machinery behind him. Jack its 12 minutes to 8!! Get up lazy pig! said his sister, Stacie. Shut up, I was going to get up, replied jack as he sauntered out his door. His dad had passed out last year dude to a car accident, and his mom was working in another city. So the only close family member he had was his sister, who was 21 years old, 7 years older than him. He crawled out of his bed, put on some clothes, grabbed his bag, and trudged out the door. Jack had not been eating breakfast for a long time, so he was used to it. He heard his teachers say that not eating breakfast was bad for him, and he should eat breakfast, which could help him do better at school and on tests. As he walked down the street to the bus stop, he met Tony, who lived across the street from him. They got on the bus together and started talking about last night s football game, and how the Patriots beat the Ravens. On the way to school, Jack saw a mysterious looking store that wasn t there last week, before the weekend. It had back signs all across the windows so they couldn t see the inside. There was a ... • 6. The Philippine Insurrection The Philippine Insurrection of 1899 1902 was a little different than most insurgencies. Using Mao s 3 phases of an insurgency, which I will break down below. The native demand for liberation from Spain had been building since the 1880s. In 1892 a poor warehouseman by the name of Andres Bonifacio organized a group called the Katiunan, hoping to drive the Spaniard s out of the Philippines. As in other insurgencies, we are seeing groups coming together for the same objective, but not all insurgent groups get along. In 1896 after a reign of terror against the islanders, Emilio Aguinaldo, a rival group leader, took over leadership by having Bonifacio executed. The insurgency was forced into the hills, but the fighting continued. The people wanted Spain out and supported an independent Philippines. In 1897 Spain paid Aguinaldo off to stop the fighting and sent him to Hong Kong. This put the insurgency back into survival mode and brought a temporary peace. Aguinaldo made a pact with the United States which was at war with Spain at the time. With the assistance of Commodore Dewey they were able to have a decisive victory over the Spanish in Manila. June 12th then became Philippine Independence Day in 1898. The Americans seemed reluctant to leave and in December Spain formally ceded the Philippines to the United States in the Paris Peace Treaty. In January 1899 Aguinaldo staged an inauguration of the First Philippine Republic. This was an uneasy peace, because what was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He includes specific details of events that take place, but more importantly certain characters that within the novel. Doctorow implies a main theme throughout the book that ultimately applies to all the characters. This theme is the idea of escaping. Whether it is escaping from a certain person, a specific event, or a particular place, the theme is addressed with the idea of avoiding some undeniable problem. Characters in the story help underline this specific problem of how to escape and with that comes historically important factors the developed during the early 1900 s. Through the characters in his book, Doctorow, brings alive the history of the early 1900 s, as well as concentrating the theme of the time period, escaping. The key problems of the period in Ragtime are racism, the growth of sexual nature in society, the always changing modern America, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This problem formulates so many problematic situations during the 1900 s that I doubt anyone ever thought it would disappear. Doctorow brings to life the character of Coalhouse Walker to illustrate the awfulness of discrimination against Blacks during this time. Coalhouse Walker was a black pianist with mannerisms that did not fit the mold of him being an African American with a high class reputation. His social position was not all that low and because of that many did not like him. International Mathematics And Science Study Many students in the United States are not ready to compete in a society that demands critical thinking, the ability to problem solve, and to work with others (Team Pennsylvania Foundation, 2011). Team Pennsylvania Foundation has reported sub par performance on state mandated high school assessments suggesting that our classroom instruction lacks the rigor required to ensure student success on these exams (2011). In 1957, the launch of Sputnik marked the need for the United States to take a serious look at the education provided to its children (Powell, 2007). The next 30 years ushered a renewed emphasis on mathematics and science in schools across the country. Focus centered on systemic changes to curriculum and improving instructional techniques. Schools increased expectations to meet the realized needs of a nation ready to take the next technological step (Thomas, 2013). Nearly 40 years later, the effectiveness of the United States educational system again came into question. The launch of the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) in 1995 measured student performance in mathematics and literacy worldwide. Twelfth grade students in the United States ranked among the lowest in the world (Schmidt, 2012). • 11. How Traditional Anishinaabe Medicine Can Be Integrated... When the culture of the Anishinaabe, or Ojibwe, people were suppressed when colonization began in the Americas, their medical practices were as well. In an effort to preserve the Ojibwe culture as well as establish effective treatment options for people living on reservations as well as members of Ojibwe communities, Anishinaabe cultures should be incorporated into the clinical setting. When working with different cultures in a health environment, it is necessary to have an understanding of that culture as different perspectives and values will have an effect on their medical care. Therefore, an understanding of Anishinaabe medicinal practices is crucial when considering the prevention and treatment of illnesses in the Anishinaabe community. Since traditional methods are not practiced in American healthcare, how information is perceived in the population as well as inclination to comply with different treatments are affected. How traditional practices can be incorporated in a Western healthcare setting as well as the challenges that exist in doing so will be evaluated. To begin to assess the different ways that traditional Anishinaabe medicine can be integrated into Western medicine, how the Anishinaabe culture was affected by colonization must be discussed. • 14. The Disappearance Of Childhood By Neil Postman Even though childhood has change for the better there is an argument stating that childhood is disappearing at a dazzling speed (Postman, 1996) says that there is a closing gap between childhood and adulthood. Neil Postman (1996) claims this in his book The Disappearance of Childhood . Postman theory was purely based on the way that communications through technology were made which shapes society today. He thinks that due to the technology such as television and the Internet children nowadays are much likely to have more access to the adult world , thus childhood to be disappearing (Postman, 1982). He claims its Frankenstein Syndrome consequence of the mass media is mainly the responsible for the usage of television, and the social media. Palmer (2007) parallels this study with Postman (1982) and thinks that parents tend to use technology such as television and electronic games to keep their children occupied and to be quiet due to their busyness or maybe too preoccupied by consumerism to give the children the traditional childhood. The book makes durable case for the traditional values and through her study has noticed that children need to develop skills such as developing their focus. • 17. Analysis Of 24-Hour Psycho Clearly heavily influenced by Douglas Gordon s 24 Hour Psycho, Don DeLillo decidedly creates a somewhat parallel universe in which Jim Finley, the protagonist of Point Omega partakes in voyeuristic acts and shares many odd similarities with 24 Hour Psycho s Norman Bates that illustrate Finley as a clone of Bates, allowing the reader (and watcher) to understand both personas from a more understanding perspective. The novella Point Omega immediately alludes to 24 Hour Psycho as the epilogue presents a scene in which an anonymous voice we later confirm as Finley, explains his ongoing thoughts and experience with the film playing in the background. We are able to observe DeLillo s interest in 24 Hour Psycho which translates then into his character Finley, who displays his captivation with the film through his own film. Finley is an aspiring filmmaker who seeks out Richard Elster, a retired strategist during the Iraq War to star in his upcoming film project. During his time spent learning about Elster s past, he stays with Elster in an under furnished house in the middle of the desert, one with a scarcity of clocks or other time telling machines so that his time spent there is literally immeasurable. And even within his own film, Finley allocates a lot of freedom for the duration of his film. • 22. Sustainability and Urban Development Sustainability and Development Introduction Sustainable development and sustainability have been the focus of many researchers in various disciplines for quite some time now. The current distribution of natural resources and their allocation is modeled on an infinite growth assumption. The mainstream economic perspective assumes that the market will allocate resources in the most efficient way possible. Yet there are many externalities that often left out of this model such as clean air, clean water, and the carrying capacity of the Earth s natural systems. For example, when someone used oil as a source of fuel, the pollution from its use is not counted in the standard economic perspective. Furthermore, the fact that oil is a nonrenewable resource is also not effectively included in these models. Sustainable development incorporates various social and economic objectives that try to optimize the use of natural resources in the society. It is a broad topic but is centered on trying to make the most efficient use of the resources that are available while also ensuring that there are resources available for future generations. The main objective of sustainable development is to achieve a reasonable and equitable distribution of resources that can offer a high level of well being for all generations; those that are currently alive and those are yet to be born. Additionally, Asians living in America suffer from the Model Minority Myth, which typecasts these people as being financially and educationally well off in comparison to other ethnic groups.2 Due to this Asian Americans aren t considered more at risk for many health risks compared to other ethnicities; cultural and physical barriers act as a hindrance to Asian Americans receiving healthcare services, primarily mental health related services. Just like Bentham Mill also sought to reform law and social policy with his theory of utilitarianism. The aim of increasing happiness underlies his argument of women s suffrage and free speech. It can be seen best in his arguments regarding social status of women. He argued that it was important to improve the status of women because they were capable of these cultivated faculties, and denying them access to education and other facilities for development is resulting in a significant loss of source of happiness for the ... • 30. Final Year Project (Heat Sensor) Abstract This report contains an account of my final year project, which was carried out in the two and half year of the Electronic and Electrical of Engineering (EEE) diploma at Institut Teknologi dan Pengurusan Lebuh Victoria. This paper is based on the design and analysis of Heat Sensor with water pump system using cooling fan to reduce the temperature. This project was done to see the operation of heat sensor and how the water pump system and the cooling fan work. This project is divided into two parts namely software and hardware development. Also, it includes two circuits that need to be designed and developed, specifically analogue and digital part. Hence, to prove the circuit works, the simulation of the output need to be shown. ... Another name for the thermistor is NTC . NTC stands for Negative temperature Co efficient . Which means surrounding temperature decreases the resistance of this thermistor decreases. P1 is a regular Preset potentiometer and adjusts a wide range of temperature for this circuit. We use a regular type Preset but a regular Bourns trimmer potentiometer will work for a bit finer adjustment. R1 is a security resistor just in case the trimmer pot P1 is adjusted all the way to 0 ohms. At which time the thermistor would get full 12Volts and may burnt out. R3 is the feedback resistor. The op amp is working in inverting mode. If we would not put any feedback the circuit may become oscillatory or unstable. R3 makes a negative feedback, prevents oscillation and makes operation of comparator stable. Transistor Q1 can be a 2N2222(A), 2N3904, NTE123A, ECG123A, etc. Any power transistor will equally well. It acts only as a switch for the relay so almost any type will work, as long as it can provide the current needed to activate the relay s coil. D1, the 1N4148, acts as a spark arrestor when the contact of the relay opens and eliminates false triggering. When the relay coil ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. George Orwell 1984 Essay 1984 Final Paper It was terribly dangerous to let your thoughts wander when you were in any public place or within range of a telescreen. The smallest thing could give you away, (Orwell, 79). The quotation above is from George Orwell s 1984. The meaning behind this is that totalitarian governments cause others to always feel like their actions are being watched. Because of this, those people feel very paranoid since they aren t doing whatever the norm is. George Orwell wrote 1984 to show readers that dictatorships are only harmful and cause many people to be fearful of their every move, and they still exist today. Orwell provides pieces of absolute power in the book to show readers that many people are afraid of what might happen if they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The character Big Brother is the leader of the Party and everyone follows his rule, just like how today people have a leader or form of government. In 1984, Big Brother is a dictator, which an example of is what North Korea is like with Kim Jong un as a singular ruler over the citizens. This example means that George Orwell was trying to make a novel that would continue for years to explain the dangers of only having one person making the decisions for the people of their country. Another reason for including dictatorships and the issues with them was to make sure that all readers for generations to come would notice that their life was not very different from the life that the people in 1984 were living in. There were telescreens that watched the members of the Party s every move and making sure that they were not going against their country in any way. The novel, 1984, includes the telescreens as an example of what life is like for all citizens today because the leaders of the country can always have access to anything people do on their technology. The example above shows Orwell wanting to make the book something that everyone for generations could relate with technology constantly advancing. George Orwell is also trying to show the reader that the government can constantly see whatever is being done, and the leaders say it is in order to keep the countries safe. RON KYDD 13th April 2015 Mail Box # 344 The Azusa Street Revival was a historical Pentecostal revival meeting that occurred in Los Angeles, California and is the beginning of the Pentecostal movement. It was run by William J. Seymour, an African American minister. It started with a meeting on April 9, 1906, and proceeded until about 1915. The revival was portrayed by euphoric spiritual encounters joined by miracles, speaking in tongues, inter racial socialising during worship services. The members were criticized by media and theologians for their behaviour as it was considered as outrageous and unorthodox, particularly at the time. Today, the restoration is considered by historians to be the essential push for the spread of Pentecostalism in the 20th century. This paper will aim to analyze how history may have unfolded if it had not happened, it will be examining the event and setting it in context that how it has impacted the history of Christianity for the reformation and modern Church. It will analyze how this event impacted the historic Pentecostal movement. Being born and bought up in Christian Orthodox Church, for a long time I could not understand the real meaning of Pentecostalism, but things changed dramatically in my life, and so did my theology about Church. • 33. The Design Philosophy Of Antoni Rovira I Trias The Sant Antoni Market is one of the most popular and architecturally brilliant markets in Barcelona. Originally designed by Antoni Rovira i Trias, an architect and urban planner who publically favored the destruction of walls in Barcelona and supported free growth in the city. Trias was a very outspoken architect and called for a change in the way Barcelona should be urbanized and he actually won the competition, in 1859, for the design of the expansion of the city. However, the central Spanish government in Madrid favored Cerda s plan instead. Nevertheless, Trias continued with his work as an architect and he designed the markets of La Concepcio in 1885, the Born in 1873, and most importantly for this research paper, the San Antoni market completed in 1882. Throughout this research paper, I will be analyzing the design philosophy of Rovira i Trias in his works particularly the Sant Antoni market and how it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The market was made the unofficial center of the neighborhood and apartment buildings, houses, other shops just started popping up around the market. The market was a perfect starting point and center of a neighborhood because it was pragmatic to surround yourselves around basic necessities such as food, drink, clothes, and other appliances and entertainment like they had in the market. The locals were the major users of the market at first because it was right in the middle of everything so it was easy to get to and it had everything they needed. They would either use the market or go by the market every day and the sidewalks would be packed with people. Eventually, the market began seeing some international interest. • 34. Middle of the World, Territory of Complexity Essay With current advancement involving technological, and biological warfare all over the earth, the world can seem to resemble a ticking time bomb waiting to be detonated. All it would take is one rogue nation to oppose a neighboring nation and provoke a terrible conflict, and other nations would have to intervene. The conflict over territory is present in Israel and Palestine. This ancient feud will apparently cause a world war if it is not solved, The Israeli Palestinian conflict can overflow onto the rest of the surrounding nations, right into our very backyard, and it already involves U.S. Government. Israel is outnumbered, yet still manages to survive, although, the threat is not gone. Many nations surrounding the Jewish State condemn the close relationship between the United States and Israel because the United States has contributed to the preservation of the Jewish nation. The Arab resistance yearns to take total dominion over the west bank of Israel. Although Israel is a small nation by itself, people opposing Israel say that the Israelis are nothing short of military bullies. Israel is known for their military might and success in preserving there nation. Their defense program is state of the art and far above other surrounding nations. Yet the potential of rogue nations containing nuclear capabilities are substantial. Some of the Arabian fighters are not all radicalized but are angered victims of having family members becoming casualties of war. Israel also while trying to defend itself, occasionally contribute to the unfortunate casualty victims. • 35. Corruption in Corporate America Corruption in Corporate America As said in every economics class, the reason every business goes into business is to make money. The same can be said in criminal cases involving businesses. In the majority of cases, executives and people highly ranked in the company tend to bend the numbers in the financial/accounting areas of the business or corporation. They do not do this for fun, but rather to make money. Something needs to be done before corporations really get out of hand. Thankfully, after the Enron Corporation scandal, the government has recently started to crack down on corporations and pay more attention to what they are doing. This is due to the extent of what Enron Corp did for so long. From approximately 1996 to 2001, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If they were able to build up the company, they obviously are intelligent minds and more than likely already have a significant amount of money. Millions of people lost so much money and too many lost their life savings just because the people at the top of Enron were greedy. It seems as though the government is taking small steps in the right direction. However, I feel that more needs to be done especially because some of these companies are funding and supplying potential terrorists. That is just outrageous and shows the extent of what people will do to make money. This is difficult to control and monitor but more steps need to be made. Hopefully the politicians and others of the future will recognize this ever growing problem and solve it for the companies to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. Congress Passed The Budget Control Act On August 2, 2011, Congress passed the Budget Control Act (BCA) of 2011 which cut $487 billion from projected defense spending over the next 10 years.1 The act also established a system of sequestration, which would cut an additional $495 billion from the defense budget.2 Altogether, the BCA would cut almost $1 trillion dollars from the Department of Defense (DoD). The passing of the BCA and the subsequent loss of funding mark an end to a 13 year period of robust budget allocations to support the global war on terrorism. From 2001 to 2013 over $1.6 trillion has been allocated to the DoD to support preparations for and execution of operations in various overseas areas.3 Within this $1.6 trillion, 94% of the funding was allocated to support operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.4 This robust amount of funding cultivated a culture within the DoD that there would always be funding available to cover costs at home and abroad. This culture is deeply entrenched within the United States Army due to large budgets provided to the Army over the past 13 years. In today s environment of shrinking budgets, this culture can no longer stand true and must be changed. Establishing a cost conscious culture (CCC) within the Army is critical to our ability to sustain the current Army force structure and make the needed modernization investments to ensure our capability to fight and win our nations wars. Our world continues to remain a violent, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous environment. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
