Lord Of The Flies Political Allegory
The Lord Of The Flies, written by William Golding, is a political allegory where the island illustrates
the world while Jack and Ralph both symbolize conflicting ideologies, totalitarianism and democracy
because Ralph and Jack, in a power struggle, fight for control over the island, trying to spread their
respective ideologies, just as it occurred during the inception of the book. Stranded on the island, the
boys, haggard and bedraggled, chose Ralph as their chief. During the voting process, Ralph and his
conch, the device use to talk in the tribe, are described: There was a stillness about Ralph as he sat that
marked him out: there was his size, and attractive appearance; and most importantly, yet most
powerful, was the conch (22). The quote, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ralph s stillness , the stance of a calculative person thinking about following actions, accredited him
to have the traits of a leader. In order to become the symbol of democracy, Ralph needed the conch.
The conch is quoted as being solely the most powerful object as it signified order and equality, giving
everyone an equal voice including responsibility in society. Democracy is defined as a society where
the people rule. Democracy is prevalent here as the people are given access to create change and are
given voice using the conch. Ralph, as the chief and the conch, symbolize the ideals of democracy.
During Jack and his choir boys encounter with Ralph and Piggy, Jack controlled the choir boys with a
iron hand; Piggy related his observations: He [Piggy] was intimidated by this uniform superiority and
the offhand authority in Merridew s [Jack s] voice (21). Piggy was able to illustrate Jack s ability to
command the choir boys. Jack s offhand authority over the choir boys, who later became the hunters

their songs were played by my family at parties, around the house, at family reunions. If my family

the songs we have in today s generation with all the bad language and drugs being mentioned. Queen

The company must factor in that each of their customers has lifetime value, a greater value than a
small gain made on first sales. With competition in their sector, more penetration pricing would be
appropriate. The penetrating pricing strategy would only make sense to retain customers; the pricing
strategy must realize lifetime value, (University of Phoenix, 2011).
Acer should avoid high price tactics, or selling off their market share. By doing this, they would retain
only a small percentage of the market. Acer currently does not have the capacity to capture a niche
market based on the uniqueness of their products (University of Phoenix, 2011). Their customers are
not willing to pay a much higher price for this new product. In general, most businesses tend to skew a
penetration price too high in an attempt to make more money. Based on Acer s market, it would make
sense to consider cost plus pricing; they would charge their prices explicitly with reference to average
costs plus a percentage profit mark up. Predatory pricing and limit pricing would not be appropriate
(McConnell Brue, 2004).
Acer has a degree of control over its prices and a considerable amount of non price competitions
exists, which ultimately leads to price discrimination (University of Phoenix, 2011). As such, Acer
should focus on attaining and retaining loyal customers. Their non pricing strategy should be focused
on the development of products that are unique

The Poem Richard Cory By Edwin A. Robinson
Humans live to love, interact, and be apart of something bigger and better than them. The poem
Richard Cory by Edwin A. Robinson illustrates a man, Richard Cory, to be perfect in every way. He
has goods looks, nice clothes, a gentleman like attitude, and money. What more could a person desire?
The people from the town did not notice that all Richard Cory wanted was a relationship, to be
listened to, and to be a friend. In the end Richard had no one to turn to and he was not happy anymore.
Even though he had an abundance of money, it was not enough for Richard. Edwin A. Robinson s
poem Richard Cory exhibits the theme of isolation portraying the lack of human contact through the
character Richard Cory by utilizing literary devices such as tone, and irony. ... Show more content on

In the poem Richard Cory the speaker repeatedly refers to the people as we . This indicates that the
speaker is a character in the story among all the other people in the town. Although the persona is
saying we this does not include the character Richard Cory. He is referred to the person that everyone
wants to be like. They want his money, his clothes, and his attitude. The speaker of the poem says,
Whenever Richard Cory went downtown / We people on the pavement looked at him (1,2). This quote
creates a complete distinction how Richard Cory is separate and singled out from we people . The
speaker does not realize they are singling Richard out but they seem to think that he is too good for
them because he has everything and they have nothing but

Life and Work of Sam Shepard
Student Name Professor Name Class/Section 11 December 2012 Sam Shepard A Review Summary
Sam Shepard has undoubtedly established himself as one of the greatest living American playwrights
of this time, if not for the duration of American history. His upbringing and experiences, both before
and since his stardom erupted, have shaped his work and how he is perceived and there is a litany of
examples of this that can be easily culled and analyzed. This report has several sections. The first
section looks at what has shaped Mr. Shepard and what he has become as it pertains to theater and the
American lexicon. Second, Mr. Shepard s work known as Buried Child will be compared to another
one of Mr. Shepard s works. Third, a look at the script of Buried Child will be under taken. Fourth, the
production of Buried Child will be assessed. The report will conclude with a character analysis of a
character from Buried Child and this will include some visual research of the same character assessed
on the rest of this section. Life of Sam Shepard In looking at what Mr. Shepard experienced growing
up, it is not hard to ascertain why he has such a unique and atypical perspective of life and America in
general. A son in a military family, he (like most military brats ) moved around a lot. However, the
common moves from place to place were fused with an alcoholic father that no doubt intimidated him
and made him anxious as a child. The juxtaposition of his dad s career as a military

Advantages Of Chinese Traditional Culture
2.1. Chinese Traditional Culture
As for the Chinese traditional culture, it derived from the ancient China. China is a country enjoying
over 5,000 years of history, which cultivated colourful culture of its population. Chinese Traditional

Zhongyuan Han nationality culture is constituted with Confucianism at its core, mixed first with
Taoism and later with Buddhism .
Confucianism provides guidance on the ethical principles of social and political life, while Taoism and

2.1.1.2. Lingnan Culture
Lingnan culture refers to the geographic culture originated from Lingnan areas, which covers the
nowadays Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan and Northern part of Vietnam. It consists of three culture
branches, Teochew Culture, Cantonese culture and Hakka culture. The study site city Guangzhou,
along the Pearl River, is the central of Cantonese culture. For one thing, considering its appropriate
geographic location (the Pear River Delta) and humidity subtropical climate, rice was cultivated as the
main staple food with long history, and the rice was so important to Guangzhou people, they named
their City hui (Rice ear) City. In the imperial era, inspired by the Han s clan system, similarly small
peasant farming and autarkic economy was led by clan based kinships organization, Guo called it Clan

The Legacy Of Rape, By Nancy Toping Bazin s And Jane...
To explore the legacy of rape as a tool in war Nancy Toping Bazin s and Jane Harmovit Lauter s
philosophy of domination is important to know. The philosophy of domination is the underpinning of
all patriarchal institutions from domestic institutions, to government, and the military. Another
usefully theory is one succinctly described by Katrina Lee Koo in Confronting a Disciplinary
Blindness: Women, War and Rape in the International Politics of Security . Koo says, the nation, the
state, allies, and enemies intersect with gendered identities...sexual enslavement is politicized violence
against women s bodies that is both state sanctioned and premeditated in effect, during war time there
is an intersection of gender with religion, ethnicity, nationality and anything else that represents the
opposing side as an other . In this sense an assault on the women of a nation is a direct assault on their
state, their culture, their religion, their ethnic group as well as the men in it. In her essay Revisiting the
Issue of Korean Military Comfort Women : The Question of Truth and Positionality Hyunah Yang
says, by invading women s bodies, rape attempts to possess the enemy s property and leaves a rift in
the most fundamental ground of the symbolic system that sustains the enemies group identity...belief
that the woman s body is a field underpinning the family, ethnic group, and/or nation (61). During the
comfort system the Japanese army was not only in control of the Korean

then charged with violating the state s anti miscegenation statute, which banned inter racial marriages.

The Illustrated Man Technology Essay
Abusing Technology Will Always Have Consequences Ray Bradbury s book, The Illustrated Man
contains different science fiction short stories. Some of his short stories are about aliens taking over
Earth, and some involve revenge and murder. Ray Bradbury grew up in the Great Depression and
started writing at twelve years old. In some of his short stories, Bradbury predicts how technology will
evolve in the future. The consequences of abusing technology are one of Bradbury s main themes in
his short stories. Ray Bradbury s short stories: The Veldt , Zero Hour , and Marionettes, Inc. , all show
the consequences of technology when they are in the wrong hands. The first short story in Bradbury s

Auditors And The International Financial Reporting Standards
Introduction: Auditors, accountants, and companies must comply with the regulations as
recommended by the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). Disputes concerning
convergence issues and compliance may arise between companies and the auditors. In the case of
dispute, the companies and the auditor should consider alternative dispute resolving mechanisms
which are faster, less expensive and less adversarial than traditional litigation.
Reason for Conflict: Audited financial statements may be a source of dispute between the auditor and
management. The process of audit resolution would entail negotiating them. Knapp (1985, p. 202)
proposes the way that auditors approach these conflicts play a big role on the auditors independence
and the content of the results and the credibility of the financial statements. Controversy threatens the
success of the firm, resolving controversy will help reduce the agency cost hence minimizing the
expenses to be incurred. Resolving audit disputes would also be serving the interest of the
shareholders.
Areas of Dispute: Audit disputes may arise in areas such as fraud investigations, malpractice claims,
fee disputes, the purpose of internal auditors and the appropriate application of the accepted
accounting practices.
How The Conflict Arises: In these cases, auditor s must inform their clients about their roles and the
responsibility of the companies accounting function against those of the external auditors. When the

The Pros And Cons Of College Education
This past summer I graduated High School and this past school year I had to give a lot of thought
where I would like to go to college or if even going to college was the correct choice for me.
However, I did start preparing for college at the beginning of High School as the concept and need of
college was instilled within me by most of my family and those at school from a young age as they
tended to say education was my ticket and it would take me far in life. However is the higher
education and experience one gains through college worth the large amount of debt one will most
likely take on in order to go to college? This topic I find to be very interesting and to resonate rather
deeply with me as while many of my friends decided to follow my same path, deciding to go on to
higher education almost as many decide not to go to college. This could have been from a multitude of
reasons from not being able to afford college to not feeling they have the aptitude and commitment to
do college. I took the time to analyze the question Is college worth it? with two sources, both
pertaining to whether college is really worth the investment of time and money one puts into it. I
found two articles Is College worth it? and College: Who profits? which both help to analyze the pros
and cons of college along analyzing various statistics pertaining to college. They both seem to be
rather useful with one being more of a report on a book and the other being an article about a report.
The first source I analyzed was Is College Worth it? Written by Michelle Adam and published by The
Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education. Adam reports on a recent question Is College Worth it? which
was analyzed and asked by the Pew Research center. Adam noted throughout the source numerous
surveys and statistics, which the Pew Research used to help answer their question. One such survey
noted that 57% of people surveyed did not find they got good value for their money with higher
education, 75% said college was too expensive for many Americans, and yet 86% of college grads
said it was a good investment for them personally with 94% of parents claiming they expected their
child to go to college. Adam also noted that within the survey

Why Students Should Start Later In School
There are multiple reasons why schools start way too early in the morning. Some reasons are
exhausted students, more time to get ready for teachers and students, etc. These reasons support what
y schools should start later in the day. Waking up early is a challenge for some students. This is mainly
because of huge workloads and getting ready for the school day ahead of them. Students need to rest
or they will not have any good grades in school. This is the same thing for teachers. They have to
grade hundreds of student s tests. That would take a lot of time and make them tired for the school day
ahead of them. If school started earlier than students and teachers would have time to rest more and be
energized for the school day leading to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They have to get up at ridiculous times to get to school and setup. The teachers would most likely be
exhausted and would not be efficient during the school day. This would lead to bad lessons and bad
grades. If the school day started later in the day then the teachers would have more time to set up and
come up with better lessons. This would lead to good attitude and be energized. Students usually never
have enough time to finish their daily routine. They have to get up early and go through their whole
routine. After they go through their routine they eat breakfast and they are ready to go. Unfortunately,
that is not how it happens usually happens. Students sometimes do not get to eat their breakfast. This
will result in drowsiness during class and inefficiency. If the school day started later in the day then
students would have more time to get their routine finished and eat breakfast. Also, they might have
enough time to finish assignments. Parents are also affected by this because they have to make lunches
and drive the kids to school. Parents need to wake up early and need to drop their kids off at school.
This can be a huge disadvantage if the parents if they need to wake up early and go to work in the
morning. If the school day was longer the parents would have more time to get their kids ready for
school. Also, they can be energized as well as the

Human Relationships And The Social Psychological Theories...
Human relationships are the foundation of human life, they strongly influence other individual s
behaviour (Bercheid et al., 2000). There are different types of relationships such as co workers,
friendship, marriage which all involve a connection and therefore is an important characteristic of the
formation of human relationships (Salisch 1996). The purpose of this essay is to explore research
within human relationships and the relevant social psychological theories that have been linked with
this conflicting topic. The theories that will be discussed throughout this essay will be the attribution
theory, social learning theory, social exchange, attachment theory, evolutionary theory and the
breakdown of relationships. This would initially ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To explain human relationships further, the social exchange theory can be another definite explanation
to help distinguish how we feel to be with other people and how one perceives to be with them, either
to rekindle their relationship or to question the decisions that make to be in a relationship (Kelley
1959). The social exchange theory can be defined as a term that allows behaviour to be exchanged to
allow a relationship between two people to happen (Huston et al., 2013). An individual social life
involves interactions between two people which can be viewed as social exchanges in terms of costs
and benefits (Nakagawa et al., 2013). By taking the view of human relationships the social exchange
theory argues that individuals engage in a cost benefit analysis which forms their relationship with
others (Milkie et al., 2004). When the costs and benefits are equal in a relationship, it is defined as
equitable (Siddiqui 2008). Moreover, romantic relationships may be difficult for some people as it
involves interpersonal skills in order to make them mutually satisfying therefore requires constant
maintenance. Recently, Psychologists have begun to look at the breakdown of relationships and the
characteristics which requires them to fail. The breakdown of relationship is a theory which explains
the failure of certain human relationships and the factors that may be involved such as lack

Lamb To The Slaughter Analysis
Murder is an inherently evil act, no matter what the circumstances, no matter how convincing the
rationalizations (Bentley Little). In the book Lamb to the Slaughter by Roald Dahl, the main character
Mary Maloney ends up committing a serious crime by murdering her husband who is a detective.
Mary Maloney is a conniving criminal aware of and responsible for her lawless action due to her
being Malice. Mary s quick thinking, her actions after the crime, and her giggling proves to show her
being guilty.
To begin with, Mary may be malice, but do to her quick thinking she is a loving housewife who cares
for her husband. When her husband (Patrick) arrives home from work, Patrick gives Mary information
that he is leaving. This shocks Mary, but still manages to round up dinner for them. She grabs the first
object she could find which was lamb. On her way back to the kitchen with the big frozen leg of lamb,
Patrick, who had his back turned toward Mary said he was going out and that he didn t want her to
make anything. At this point, Mary walked up behind him and without any pause, swung the big
frozen leg of lamb in the air and brought it down hard on the back of his head. After Patrick had fallen
onto the floor, Mary had many questions, but everything became clear to her. She carried the meat into
the kitchen, placed it in a pan, turned the oven on high, shoved it inside (Dahl). Mary then hurries to
the store to buy vegetables for dinner. On her way back she convinced herself to act normal because
nothing was wrong. And if, She happened to find anything unusual, or tragic, or terrible, then naturally
it would be a shock and she d become frantic with grief and horror. That s the way, she told herself.
Do everything right and natural. Keep things absolutely natural and there ll be no need for any acting
at all (Dahl). Mary put a ton of thought into her plan after realizing all the possibilities that would
happen to her if she was caught. Besides Mary Maloney s quick thinking, her actions prove that she
knew what she was doing and are clear evidence that she is guilty. As soon as Patrick had fallen onto
the ground Mary realized she still had the lamb. She still had the murder weapon. Mary disposes of

John Brown Research Paper
Hello Everyone,
John Brown was a revolutionary abolitionist who felt very strongly about ending slavery. He was born
in 1800 and died in 1859. His birthplace was Torrington, Connecticut. He belonged to a very loving
family with very strong anti slavery beliefs. He tied the knot twice and brought forth 20 children from
those unions.
Brown had several business endeavors that failed. In 1842 he filed bankruptcy. He began working as a
conductor with the Underground Railroad in order to support the abolitionist cause. He also started the
League of Gileadites, which was organized to aid runaway slaves fleeing to Canada. He later moved to
a free black farming community in New York.
In 1856, at the age of 55, Brown and his sons moved to Kansas Territory, John Brown accompanied by
a small army of his four sons and two other men set out along the Pottawatomie Creek and brutally
murdered five men and boys whom they believed were promoting slavery. Later on Brown raided

Sildenafil Citration
A little blue pill that would literally make a male stand straight with excitement became readily

Analysis Of Lysistrata
In Aristophanes play Lysistrata, the plot is during the middle of the Peloponnesian war. The title
character Lysistrata, is a Athenian woman who has convened a meeting with the women whose
husbands are off fighting in the war. Lysistrata arranges the meeting in order to propose a solution to
ending the war which includes the women withholding sex from their husbands. Initially, the women
don t like the idea of her plan but soon come to agree with her after realizing that it may be the only
way to get the men to stop fighting. All of the women then take an oath and swear off sex until a peace
treaty is signed. Lysistrata also plans to attack and seize the nearby acropolis, which contains the
Athenian treasury, in order to cut off funding to the war. When the chorus of women go to the
acropolis, they are met by a chorus of men who have intentions of smoking the women out of it but
the women meet them with buckets of water. After multiple altercations with different people in the
men s chorus, one of the women s husbands shows up wanting to have sex with his wife and she plays
along with him, giving him the impression that they re going to have sex but then soon runs back to
the acropolis with the other women. Upon their return, men from both the nearby cities as well as
Sparta realize that they have something in common: their wives are all withholding sex from them and
the conspiracy is international. Upon the realization of this, the men decide to declare peace with one
another and the story concludes with large celebrations. A large portion of Aristophanes play relies
heavily on the use of women and sex in comedic ways. Aristophanes uses women to satirically
undermine the athenian government through the use of sexual comedy. Aristophanes portrays women
as irrational and lustful creatures. A large portion of the story relies heavily on this idea as for it drives
the idea as for it sets the tone for the mindset of the women. The play begins with a misinterpretation
between two characters, Calonice and Lysistrata. Lysistrata arranges the meeting of women and
Calonice is the first of the women to show up. Calonice is curious as to why Lysistrata calls the
meeting so she then asks, CALONICE. Well, Lysistrata

Parent Involvement Definition
II. Relevant Literature: Parent Involvement and Understandings of Bilingual Education
Parent Involvement is something that is very important and crucial when it comes to the education of
students. Especially to those students who are part of the bilingual programs, parent teacher
communication is key to success for the students. There tends to be a lack of communication between
the school and parents in which is very alarming for the reason that students are not fully getting the
education experience that they should be getting. Parents have the power and potential to influence
bilingual policies and practice at the school, district, and state wide (Lee, 1999 p. 201) levels in which
it is very important to have good relations with the parents. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Whitbread World Sailboat Race
Project Plan for Whitbread World Sailboat Race The following paper analyzes the Whitbread World
Sailboat Race case scenario presented at the end of chapter 9 in the Gray and Larson text, Project
Management: the Managerial Process. The project encompasses two main objectives; one, design,
build and test a new vessel, and two, select and train a crew capable of winning the race. Both
objectives must be completed within 45 weeks, the start of the race, and with a planned budget of $3.2
million. Initial projections show that the current schedule will take 50 weeks to finish with a final
budget estimate of $3.152 million. Although the project estimate comes in under budget, the time

Table 1 shows the Whitbread World Sailboat Race priority matrix as described above. With clear
expectations of which activities take precedence, the Bjorn project team can then analyze the various
events to determine which can be crashed and the additional costs associated with doing so. This
analysis should be done prior to finalizing the project network because not all events will be crashed
in order to keep costs to a minimum. Placing the events in a Gantt chart will help clarify and organize
the events, the order in which they will occur, as well as any preceding activities that must be
accomplished. Table 5 shows the project s normal conditions, their timeframes and associated costs.
As noted, normal conditions require 50 weeks to complete and therefore, cannot be used. Table 6 is a
similar chart showing the project under ultimate crash conditions. As mentioned earlier, the project
can be accomplished in as little as 42 weeks if every activity is crashed. This scenario is not desired
however, because the project s budget then approaches $5 million in associated costs, over 50%
beyond the original allotted expenditure. To arrive at the optimal schedule, Bjorn and his team must
consider which activities to accomplish using normal conditions and which activities to crash that
keeps the budget to a minimum. To accomplish this, using table 2 we first notice that activities C, E,
G, H, N, O, and P cannot be crashed and therefore,

Availability of credit cards have left young people in debt. College age students and low income

high school students have a major credit card. And nearly a third do not pay their bills in full each

Experts don t agree about when and how to introduce kids to credit cards. Teens younger than 18 can
only get a credit card if their parents co sign for it.

Oregon Water Resources Department states it is legal to collect rainwater off of surfaces like roofs or

Some states have regulated the collection of rainwater, but have not necessarily banned the collection.
Some states even offer tax incentives for the proper collection and retention of rainwater on your own
property.
The problem is that some people do not want to follow certain laws, because they have deemed them
unnecessary, to restrictive or simply do not want to bother with the proper permits and refuse to
research what is actually allowed and what is not.
Some want to believe the click bait headlines, because it validates what they already believe. This is

Analysis Of Borderlands By Gloria Anzaldua
Speaking of Texas U.S. Southwest/Mexican border, the first thing appears in many people s mind is a
horizontal line with US on the upper side and Mexico on the lower, as depicted in maps. However, in
reality, a border serves more than just to separate states. In many occasions, it witnesses and bridges
social networks that stretch across border. These two functions seem to contradict each other but in
fact they exactly reflect the complex nature of borders, or, more realistically, borderlands, a term
coined to uproot in people the misleading image of a line. In her book Borderlands, the author Gloria
Anzaldua, as a descendent of Indians and Mexicans living close to the America Mexico border in
Southern Texas, defies such dualistic and simplistic thinking about the border/double sided or multi
sided dilemma, suggesting a new mestiza consciousness , a tolerance of ambiguity and a way of
creating new personal culture from her accounting with all three cultures, as opposed to adopting only
one of them without independent thinking and confronting against the rest. This new way of thinking
stems from the reality of borderlands but instead of stopping there the author expands its application
to establishing both cultural and sexual identities.
For Anzaldua, any borderland is a place of contradictions (preface 19), rendering border residents to
suffer from constant insecurity and perplexity as they struggle to keep their multiple identities intact.
Nonetheless, as she writes

Rosetta Stone Analysis
The Rosetta Stone has a long and complex history. The knowledge inscribed on the stone itself offers
a glimpse of life in Egypt under the Pharaoh Ptolemy V. Though Egypt had lost part of its former
identity as a power, and instead acted as a Roman client state, Egypt still acted as its own separate
entity. The Rosetta Stone offers a major look into Egypt as a center of trade, religion and culture. The
Rosetta Stone not only stands as a testament to the relationship between Egypt and its people, but also
to the rulers who had come before. The Rosetta Stone helps to show what the pharaohs of the
Ptolemaic Dynasty had intended for their legacy, the betterment of the way of life of the people.
Before Egypt was ruled over by Rome, it was a major religious and political center. The Pharaohs
ruled over Egypt was a strong fist, and acted benevolently towards their people, as they were seen as
protectors of the natural order. This is due to the fact that Egyptian politics is intertwined with
religion. Egyptian religion was much more complex than any other belief system in the surrounding
area. This is due to the idea that separate interpretations of religion do not contradict each other, but
instead are both accepted equally among members of the society. The Pharaoh was not only seen as
the protector of the natural order, but as the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Modern And Capable Armed Forces
Maintaining modern and capable armed forces is not an easy task. One of the most important tasks for
a country, state and society is to defend itself against attackers and other threats. Military force, as
Clausewitz made explicit, is not an end in itself and it only has meaning in relation to the future
desired political landscape. When internal political institutions function normally, the wielders of
sovereign power are the natural arbiters of last resort among competing interests and values in the
policy, including the subordination of the military to the highest political authorities.
Armed Forces of a country should be designed to fulfil all tasks given to them from political
authorities. Each country develops its armed forces based on specific conditions and requirements
drawn from national security policy and as stated in national security and national defense strategies.
National security strategy is aimed to enhance the safety of the nation s economic, social and political
institutions against different threats. Strategies also deal with complex and diverse security challenges,
like proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, climate change and migrations. To accomplish and
safeguard their own security, states are trying to depend on national resources and also through the
various international organizations and alliances.
Defense policy covers the military domain and involves quantitative issues of the size, recruitment and
supply of the military forces,

Inignificant Loss In One Art By Elizabeth Bishop
In One Art by Elizabeth Bishop, the speaker is talking about the art of losing. In this poem, Bishop is
the speaker and describes how some things are made to be lost easily, like house keys or times that

continues, when significant loss occurs, it would make hard for her to cope and accept. Bishop also
described door keys or times that she waste as insignificant loss, then the poem grows when things she

The Development of Civilization Essay
The Development of Civilization
Our civilizations are merely a wrinkle in time. Billions of years ago, during the Paleolithic Culture
people had only knowledge for basic survival. The Stone Age was a time for hunting and gathering,
building tools, and making fire. As the human race evolved, so did the culture. This is when the
Neolithic Culture was born. People started taking control. Farms sprang up and sedentary villages
began to take form. Amazingly, not too far from these progressing cultures grew civilizations.
When one wants to look at the true heart of a civilization, they must first understand the civilization s
beliefs, moral standards, social interaction, attitudes, values and social consciousness. Without a

The Athenians were superbly educated in the arts and sciences, and trained to be extremely productive
in times of war and peace. When looking at their educational and philosophical output it is simple to
see that the Athenian people valued their futures.
Without educational programs for the Athenian youths, Athena would have lost their civilization long
before it initially peaked. Undoubtedly, Athenian people had a productive social consciousness, and
realized that education and knowledge was quite important. They knew that the future of their city
state depended on the smarts of the people in it. Social awareness was not usually number one to
people back then. Normally, city states were concerned with war and gaining land. While the gross
majority of Greece were fighting and stealing, Athenians were busily figuring out the philosophy of
life. Clearly, the Athenians were socially aware of what was going on in their lives, through education
and philosophy.
The Spartans on the other hand were more concerned with being brute and strong against their
enemies. A typical Spartan soldier would have to endure unbelievable pain and hardship to become a
respected Spartan and citizen. Their moral standards must have influenced them to exploit their
respect toward physical pain and suffering. Many historians believe Spartans were cunning, lying
cheaters. There were even

Word Accuracy And Word Frequency Essay
This study is a conceptualized replication of the Howes and Solomon (1951) experiment investigating
word accuracy and word frequency in short duration trials. It is hypothesized that words that appear
more often in printed text (easier to access in the lexicon) will be more accurately identified rather
than words that appear less commonly. A total of 83 participants in the study were presented with
words taken from the Throndike Lorge database. The words were presented for one second with a six
second rest in the middle. This was done sixty times and the results suggest a moderate strong
relationship between word accuracy and frequency. Though there are multiple factors that may have
influenced these results. Introduction Word recognition involves an individual s ability to identify
words independently without requiring related words for contextual help. A widely examined topic in
the field of cognitive psychology, it deals with understanding printed letters as a word which has been
kept in the lexicon. The word frequency effect is important in the recognition of words. It suggests
more common words in printed language are easier, faster and more accurate to distinguish than words
that appear less frequently. Outlined in their journal article, Howes and Solomon utilized Thorndike
Lorge s word count for word frequency and measured the threshold of recognition. They found
correlation coefficients of .68 to .75 between word frequency and threshold or duration.

DELEGATION AND DECENTRALIZATION
Advantages and Disadvantages of Decentralization
In an organization, centralized way of making a decision entails less autonomy to everyone except the
central leadership. In contrast, decentralization involves delegation of responsibility and the associated
decision making powers across various levels in the organization. Let us discover the pros and cons of
this concept.
A central command structure derives from an autocratic style of management. Autocracy is not
necessarily an intention and could be incidental. For example, typically start ups and business that
have just been founded are naturally autocratic with the founding members primarily running the
show. Gradually, as the business grows and the headcount expands, the ... Show more content on

The adoption of organizational standards and best practices is also facilitated by a decentralized setup.
Transparency in process ensures that it is easy for the various local teams to emulate and adopt the
methods and processes that brought success to a team located elsewhere.
One of the major advantages of decentralized way of taking decisions is witnessed during a sudden
change in the local business environment such as the onset of recession or currency devaluation, etc.
Businesses are able to respond and adapt quickly to these changes when authority is decentralized.
Retail businesses like Walmart and hotel chains often benefit from having a decentralized style of
management. Businesses, where quick decisions amidst fast paced changes in environment are the
order of the day, stand to benefit from decentralization.
Disadvantages of Decentralization
Too much emphasis on localized way of taking decisions may end up blurring the bigger picture. As
you go down the corporate ladder, employees seem to lose sight of the organizational vision.
A highly decentralized organization can be the battleground for unhealthy competition between local
managers leading to lack of co operation and coordination. As a result, interdependent functions may
suffer and resolving interdepartmental conflicts is difficult when authority has been delegated. In
addition, there is costly duplication

  • 2. Lord Of The Flies Political Allegory The Lord Of The Flies, written by William Golding, is a political allegory where the island illustrates the world while Jack and Ralph both symbolize conflicting ideologies, totalitarianism and democracy because Ralph and Jack, in a power struggle, fight for control over the island, trying to spread their respective ideologies, just as it occurred during the inception of the book. Stranded on the island, the boys, haggard and bedraggled, chose Ralph as their chief. During the voting process, Ralph and his conch, the device use to talk in the tribe, are described: There was a stillness about Ralph as he sat that marked him out: there was his size, and attractive appearance; and most importantly, yet most powerful, was the conch (22). The quote, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ralph s stillness , the stance of a calculative person thinking about following actions, accredited him to have the traits of a leader. In order to become the symbol of democracy, Ralph needed the conch. The conch is quoted as being solely the most powerful object as it signified order and equality, giving everyone an equal voice including responsibility in society. Democracy is defined as a society where the people rule. Democracy is prevalent here as the people are given access to create change and are given voice using the conch. Ralph, as the chief and the conch, symbolize the ideals of democracy. During Jack and his choir boys encounter with Ralph and Piggy, Jack controlled the choir boys with a iron hand; Piggy related his observations: He [Piggy] was intimidated by this uniform superiority and the offhand authority in Merridew s [Jack s] voice (21). Piggy was able to illustrate Jack s ability to command the choir boys. Jack s offhand authority over the choir boys, who later became the hunters later in the tribe, is a trait of ... My Favorite Recording Band Of All Time My Favorite Recording Group Queen By: Carlos Ramirez Page1 Carlos Ramirez Music 125 12/6/14 www.queenonline.com My favorite recording band of all time is Queen. I grew up with their songs. My parents would play their song all the time. We would go out and I would hear queen play in the car. I learned to bond with their songs and I learned to love their music. To me their music is unique. Page 2 Music 125 12/6/14 www.queenonline.com In my opinion that was pretty cool, two of your favorite songs by your favorite rock band playing one after the other. That s something we don t have today anymore. I really wish that the radio stations out there would do something like this with two of the greatest hits from some of the best rock bands that there are out there today and put them one after the other like they did with some of queens greatest hits. I think that the rock band queen has a great impact on me because their songs were played by my family at parties, around the house, at family reunions. If my family played their songs then that means that they were fun to listen to and kid friendly and not like some of the songs we have in today s generation with all the bad language and drugs being mentioned. Queen is the type of band that can be listened to with family. Some history moments for the band were when Queen formed in 1971 and in 1973 signed their first recording contract for EMI. That year they released their first album, Queen. The same year saw their first major UK tour, and in 1974 they released Queen II as well as making their first UK headlining tour. The company must factor in that each of their customers has lifetime value, a greater value than a small gain made on first sales. With competition in their sector, more penetration pricing would be appropriate. The penetrating pricing strategy would only make sense to retain customers; the pricing strategy must realize lifetime value, (University of Phoenix, 2011). Acer should avoid high price tactics, or selling off their market share. By doing this, they would retain only a small percentage of the market. Acer currently does not have the capacity to capture a niche market based on the uniqueness of their products (University of Phoenix, 2011). Their customers are not willing to pay a much higher price for this new product. In general, most businesses tend to skew a penetration price too high in an attempt to make more money. Based on Acer s market, it would make sense to consider cost plus pricing; they would charge their prices explicitly with reference to average costs plus a percentage profit mark up. Predatory pricing and limit pricing would not be appropriate (McConnell Brue, 2004). Acer has a degree of control over its prices and a considerable amount of non price competitions exists, which ultimately leads to price discrimination (University of Phoenix, 2011). As such, Acer should focus on attaining and retaining loyal customers. Their non pricing strategy should be focused on the development of products that are unique ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. The Legacy Of Rape, By Nancy Toping Bazin s And Jane... To explore the legacy of rape as a tool in war Nancy Toping Bazin s and Jane Harmovit Lauter s philosophy of domination is important to know. The philosophy of domination is the underpinning of all patriarchal institutions from domestic institutions, to government, and the military. Another usefully theory is one succinctly described by Katrina Lee Koo in Confronting a Disciplinary Blindness: Women, War and Rape in the International Politics of Security . Koo says, the nation, the state, allies, and enemies intersect with gendered identities...sexual enslavement is politicized violence against women s bodies that is both state sanctioned and premeditated in effect, during war time there is an intersection of gender with religion, ethnicity, nationality and anything else that represents the opposing side as an other . In this sense an assault on the women of a nation is a direct assault on their state, their culture, their religion, their ethnic group as well as the men in it. In her essay Revisiting the Issue of Korean Military Comfort Women : The Question of Truth and Positionality Hyunah Yang says, by invading women s bodies, rape attempts to possess the enemy s property and leaves a rift in the most fundamental ground of the symbolic system that sustains the enemies group identity...belief that the woman s body is a field underpinning the family, ethnic group, and/or nation (61). • 11. Auditors And The International Financial Reporting Standards Introduction: Auditors, accountants, and companies must comply with the regulations as recommended by the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). Disputes concerning convergence issues and compliance may arise between companies and the auditors. In the case of dispute, the companies and the auditor should consider alternative dispute resolving mechanisms which are faster, less expensive and less adversarial than traditional litigation. Reason for Conflict: Audited financial statements may be a source of dispute between the auditor and management. The process of audit resolution would entail negotiating them. Knapp (1985, p. 202) proposes the way that auditors approach these conflicts play a big role on the auditors independence and the content of the results and the credibility of the financial statements. Controversy threatens the success of the firm, resolving controversy will help reduce the agency cost hence minimizing the expenses to be incurred. Resolving audit disputes would also be serving the interest of the shareholders. Areas of Dispute: Audit disputes may arise in areas such as fraud investigations, malpractice claims, fee disputes, the purpose of internal auditors and the appropriate application of the accepted accounting practices. • 13. The Pros And Cons Of College Education This past summer I graduated High School and this past school year I had to give a lot of thought where I would like to go to college or if even going to college was the correct choice for me. However, I did start preparing for college at the beginning of High School as the concept and need of college was instilled within me by most of my family and those at school from a young age as they tended to say education was my ticket and it would take me far in life. However is the higher education and experience one gains through college worth the large amount of debt one will most likely take on in order to go to college? This topic I find to be very interesting and to resonate rather deeply with me as while many of my friends decided to follow my same path, deciding to go on to higher education almost as many decide not to go to college. This could have been from a multitude of reasons from not being able to afford college to not feeling they have the aptitude and commitment to do college. I took the time to analyze the question Is college worth it? with two sources, both pertaining to whether college is really worth the investment of time and money one puts into it. I found two articles Is College worth it? and College: Who profits? which both help to analyze the pros and cons of college along analyzing various statistics pertaining to college. They both seem to be rather useful with one being more of a report on a book and the other being an article about a report. The first source I analyzed was Is College Worth it? Written by Michelle Adam and published by The Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education. Adam reports on a recent question Is College Worth it? which was analyzed and asked by the Pew Research center. Adam noted throughout the source numerous surveys and statistics, which the Pew Research used to help answer their question. One such survey noted that 57% of people surveyed did not find they got good value for their money with higher education, 75% said college was too expensive for many Americans, and yet 86% of college grads said it was a good investment for them personally with 94% of parents claiming they expected their child to go to college. To explain human relationships further, the social exchange theory can be another definite explanation to help distinguish how we feel to be with other people and how one perceives to be with them, either to rekindle their relationship or to question the decisions that make to be in a relationship (Kelley 1959). The social exchange theory can be defined as a term that allows behaviour to be exchanged to allow a relationship between two people to happen (Huston et al., 2013). An individual social life involves interactions between two people which can be viewed as social exchanges in terms of costs and benefits (Nakagawa et al., 2013). By taking the view of human relationships the social exchange theory argues that individuals engage in a cost benefit analysis which forms their relationship with others (Milkie et al., 2004). When the costs and benefits are equal in a relationship, it is defined as equitable (Siddiqui 2008). The title character Lysistrata, is a Athenian woman who has convened a meeting with the women whose husbands are off fighting in the war. Lysistrata arranges the meeting in order to propose a solution to ending the war which includes the women withholding sex from their husbands. Initially, the women don t like the idea of her plan but soon come to agree with her after realizing that it may be the only way to get the men to stop fighting. All of the women then take an oath and swear off sex until a peace treaty is signed. Lysistrata also plans to attack and seize the nearby acropolis, which contains the Athenian treasury, in order to cut off funding to the war. When the chorus of women go to the acropolis, they are met by a chorus of men who have intentions of smoking the women out of it but the women meet them with buckets of water. After multiple altercations with different people in the men s chorus, one of the women s husbands shows up wanting to have sex with his wife and she plays along with him, giving him the impression that they re going to have sex but then soon runs back to the acropolis with the other women. Upon their return, men from both the nearby cities as well as Sparta realize that they have something in common: their wives are all withholding sex from them and the conspiracy is international. Upon the realization of this, the men decide to declare peace with one another and the story concludes with large celebrations. These two functions seem to contradict each other but in fact they exactly reflect the complex nature of borders, or, more realistically, borderlands, a term coined to uproot in people the misleading image of a line. In her book Borderlands, the author Gloria Anzaldua, as a descendent of Indians and Mexicans living close to the America Mexico border in Southern Texas, defies such dualistic and simplistic thinking about the border/double sided or multi sided dilemma, suggesting a new mestiza consciousness , a tolerance of ambiguity and a way of creating new personal culture from her accounting with all three cultures, as opposed to adopting only one of them without independent thinking and confronting against the rest. This new way of thinking stems from the reality of borderlands but instead of stopping there the author expands its application to establishing both cultural and sexual identities. For Anzaldua, any borderland is a place of contradictions (preface 19), rendering border residents to suffer from constant insecurity and perplexity as they struggle to keep their multiple identities intact. • 30. Rosetta Stone Analysis The Rosetta Stone has a long and complex history. The knowledge inscribed on the stone itself offers a glimpse of life in Egypt under the Pharaoh Ptolemy V. Though Egypt had lost part of its former identity as a power, and instead acted as a Roman client state, Egypt still acted as its own separate entity. The Rosetta Stone offers a major look into Egypt as a center of trade, religion and culture. The Rosetta Stone not only stands as a testament to the relationship between Egypt and its people, but also to the rulers who had come before. The Rosetta Stone helps to show what the pharaohs of the Ptolemaic Dynasty had intended for their legacy, the betterment of the way of life of the people. Before Egypt was ruled over by Rome, it was a major religious and political center. The Pharaohs ruled over Egypt was a strong fist, and acted benevolently towards their people, as they were seen as protectors of the natural order. This is due to the fact that Egyptian politics is intertwined with religion. Egyptian religion was much more complex than any other belief system in the surrounding area. This is due to the idea that separate interpretations of religion do not contradict each other, but instead are both accepted equally among members of the society. The Pharaoh was not only seen as the protector of the natural order, but as the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 32. Modern And Capable Armed Forces Maintaining modern and capable armed forces is not an easy task. One of the most important tasks for a country, state and society is to defend itself against attackers and other threats. Military force, as Clausewitz made explicit, is not an end in itself and it only has meaning in relation to the future desired political landscape. When internal political institutions function normally, the wielders of sovereign power are the natural arbiters of last resort among competing interests and values in the policy, including the subordination of the military to the highest political authorities. Armed Forces of a country should be designed to fulfil all tasks given to them from political authorities. Each country develops its armed forces based on specific conditions and requirements drawn from national security policy and as stated in national security and national defense strategies. National security strategy is aimed to enhance the safety of the nation s economic, social and political institutions against different threats. Strategies also deal with complex and diverse security challenges, like proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, climate change and migrations. To accomplish and safeguard their own security, states are trying to depend on national resources and also through the various international organizations and alliances. Billions of years ago, during the Paleolithic Culture people had only knowledge for basic survival. The Stone Age was a time for hunting and gathering, building tools, and making fire. As the human race evolved, so did the culture. This is when the Neolithic Culture was born. People started taking control. Farms sprang up and sedentary villages began to take form. Amazingly, not too far from these progressing cultures grew civilizations. When looking at their educational and philosophical output it is simple to see that the Athenian people valued their futures. Without educational programs for the Athenian youths, Athena would have lost their civilization long before it initially peaked. Undoubtedly, Athenian people had a productive social consciousness, and realized that education and knowledge was quite important. They knew that the future of their city state depended on the smarts of the people in it. Social awareness was not usually number one to people back then. Normally, city states were concerned with war and gaining land. While the gross majority of Greece were fighting and stealing, Athenians were busily figuring out the philosophy of life. Clearly, the Athenians were socially aware of what was going on in their lives, through education and philosophy. The Spartans on the other hand were more concerned with being brute and strong against their enemies. A typical Spartan soldier would have to endure unbelievable pain and hardship to become a respected Spartan and citizen. Their moral standards must have influenced them to exploit their respect toward physical pain and suffering. Many historians believe Spartans were cunning, lying cheaters. There were even ... • 35. Word Accuracy And Word Frequency Essay This study is a conceptualized replication of the Howes and Solomon (1951) experiment investigating word accuracy and word frequency in short duration trials. It is hypothesized that words that appear more often in printed text (easier to access in the lexicon) will be more accurately identified rather than words that appear less commonly. A total of 83 participants in the study were presented with words taken from the Throndike Lorge database. The words were presented for one second with a six second rest in the middle. This was done sixty times and the results suggest a moderate strong relationship between word accuracy and frequency. Though there are multiple factors that may have influenced these results. Introduction Word recognition involves an individual s ability to identify words independently without requiring related words for contextual help. A widely examined topic in the field of cognitive psychology, it deals with understanding printed letters as a word which has been kept in the lexicon. The word frequency effect is important in the recognition of words. It suggests more common words in printed language are easier, faster and more accurate to distinguish than words that appear less frequently. Outlined in their journal article, Howes and Solomon utilized Thorndike Lorge s word count for word frequency and measured the threshold of recognition. They found correlation coefficients of .68 to .75 between word frequency and threshold or duration. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

DELEGATION AND DECENTRALIZATION Advantages and Disadvantages of Decentralization In an organization, centralized way of making a decision entails less autonomy to everyone except the central leadership. In contrast, decentralization involves delegation of responsibility and the associated decision making powers across various levels in the organization. Let us discover the pros and cons of this concept. A central command structure derives from an autocratic style of management. Autocracy is not necessarily an intention and could be incidental. For example, typically start ups and business that have just been founded are naturally autocratic with the founding members primarily running the show. The adoption of organizational standards and best practices is also facilitated by a decentralized setup. Transparency in process ensures that it is easy for the various local teams to emulate and adopt the methods and processes that brought success to a team located elsewhere. One of the major advantages of decentralized way of taking decisions is witnessed during a sudden change in the local business environment such as the onset of recession or currency devaluation, etc. Businesses are able to respond and adapt quickly to these changes when authority is decentralized. Retail businesses like Walmart and hotel chains often benefit from having a decentralized style of management. Businesses, where quick decisions amidst fast paced changes in environment are the order of the day, stand to benefit from decentralization. Disadvantages of Decentralization Too much emphasis on localized way of taking decisions may end up blurring the bigger picture. As you go down the corporate ladder, employees seem to lose sight of the organizational vision. A highly decentralized organization can be the battleground for unhealthy competition between local managers leading to lack of co operation and coordination. As a result, interdependent functions may suffer and resolving interdepartmental conflicts is difficult when authority has been delegated. In addition, there is costly duplication ...
