Resolving Work Conflict Dementia
Resolving Work Conflict
Dementia often forces family members to admit their loved ones into long term care facilities.
Unfortunately, a variety of issues commonly arises after admission. For instance, family members,
especially those who have previously taken care of the resident, are sometimes reluctant to allow
changes in the residents routine, medication regimen, diet, etc. This can create conflict because
sometimes changes are necessary in order to create a plan of care capable of enhancing the resident s
quality of life.
Furthermore, health outcomes are individualized. Therefore, what constitutes an optimal plan of care
is highly subjective. As a result, the cultural norms of family members and nurses inevitably play a

The nursing team at WM views the resident, family members, physician, nurses, and nursing
assistants vital members of the care planning team. Consequently, nurses are empowering Ben to
participate in his mother s care. Even though this is currently creating conflict, ultimately, it should
enhance the quality of care the resident receives.
Likewise, cultural norms have influenced Ben s perceptions and belief about how health services
should be provided and what constitutes quality care. He has stated, Every time someone is admitted
to a nursing home, they change the patient s medicines to conform to the doctors preferences .
Additionally, Ben has reported he believes people should not be treated with many medications.
Further, over 40% of adults in the U.S. use some form of CAM therapy developed outside of
mainstream Western medicine (Ventola, 2010). In turn, it is certainly possible Ben favors alternative
medicine over conventional medicine.

The Politics Of The United States World Revolution
After the independence of the United States in 1776, the new nation needed to establish and decide
their global affairs. Since then the leaders of the United States from 1789 George Washington to 1823

designed in their policies to ultimately benefit the United States and promote themselves in
international affairs, to be considered as a new power in the world. The united states world policies

Americans won important battles in America against the English like the battle of Thames in 1813,
also the English were also fighting a war with France so America was able to stand up to them. The
results of this were that Americans set and achieved a goal of maintaining free trade with other
superpowers respecting while America s trading rights of neutrality are respected.
The United States ever since its creation has had an idea of Isolationism, which has helped their
interests in world affairs. This is regarding wars with Europe the United States maintained a policy of
staying out of them thus staying out of any conflict. In 1793 George Washington passed the Neutrality
Proclamation act, which declared the nation neutral in the conflicts regarding England and France,
while still maintaining trade with both countries enriching the economy of the US In 1796 in
Washington s farewell address he advised to stay away from long term alliances from other nations,
keeping the idea of neutrality.. Regarding the Napoleonic wars the John Adams the president at the
time declared Neutrality from wars in Europe, thus leaving a space for America to keep progressing
instead of fighting a war America struggled with other nations especially France and England to
respect their neutrality decisions and tried to block their trading

World Bank Reconstruction Role During The Leste s...
World Bank reconstruction role in Timor Leste creating problems (REFERENCE:
http://www.brettonwoodsproject.org/es/2007/01/art 550872/)
The World Bank came to Timor Leste in 1999, when the UN was still planning the intervention
mission. The lack of attention given by the UN Transitional Administration in East Timor to economic
development allowed the Bank to assume a central role. After the end of mass violence, the Bank and
Fund visited Timor Leste and conducted a joint assessment mission. This was done with little
consultation with the Timorese people.
There were several roles played by the Bank in the reconstruction and development effort in Timor
Leste:

This raises serious concerns both about unemployment in the agricultural sector and long term food
security.
The Bank s Community Empowerment Project aimed to establish transparent, democratic, and
accountable local structures in rural areas to make decisions about development projects in a
decentralised fashion. However the programme conflicted with traditional structures.
Even though the Bank argues that its presence has reinforced the position of the government, the
reality is that is has subordinated and marginalised it. Most of the Bank s programme does not involve
the government in the decision making process, undermining the accountability of democratically
elected representatives. In the end, the Bank s presence has created problems rather than solving them.
They could have avoided this by if they had consulted with the Timorese people.

Manipulations In Memento, By Christopher Leonard And Mollo
Throughout Memento there are a multiplicity of instances in which manipulation occurs. The audience
sees a plethora of people manipulating Leonard such as Teddy, Natalie and Burt. The audience
generally associates these individuals as the main manipulators in Memento, however that Christopher
Nolan and Leonard, respectively, manipulate the audience and themselves far more than anyone else.
Leonard is seen manipulating himself several times throughout Memento. One of the ways he does
this is through his tattoos. He writes certain things on his body to influence what he will remember
such as remember Sammy Jenkins. Leonard also uses photos and writes information on these as well
as the tattoos. The color sequences begin to elude that Leonard might have mixed motives for writing
something down on a photo. Teddy eludes that Leonard is a serial killer and that he killed the real
John. G. over a year ago. After Teddy reveals this to Leonard, Leonard purposely alters the memory
and writes down on his photo to not trust Teddy. The audience begins to realize that Leonard alters the
tattoos and photos for his own personal gain (Vane 2) Teddy later reveals that Leonard had taken out
pages in his own file and that his wife did not die in the attack and instead Leonard killed her with
insulin shots. At this point the audience realizes the tattoo is there so he never has to remember killing
his wife again. Leonard had manipulated those memories, so he could live with himself and

Dan Savage Character Analysis
Just by looking at him, you aren t going to know that Dan Savage is a newspaper column writer for
The Stranger, that founded It Gets Better, a multimedia organization to inspire and assist LGBTQ+
youth.
People need heroes because everyone needs somebody to look up to. Dan is my hero because not only
is he standing up for a community, but he doesn t have to do anything about the problems in the
community if he doesn t feel like doing it.
In my own opinion, Dan Savage holds the characteristic of brave. He shows bravery when he stands
up for who and what he believes in and that takes bravery since there will always be people against
him and his beliefs in some way or another so he has to be brave enough to stay standing and to

He shows compassion by reaching out and helping LGBTQ+ youth with problems they face like
bullying, family rejection, and self harm. I feel that he shows sympathy and/or empathy for the
problems the youth of this community are facing, since he is part of the community himself, and may
have gone through the same problems.
Now, your opinion may be different from mine, and you may not think that Dan could be described as
unprejudiced. Although, he has shown the trait of unprejudiced by starting the It Gets Better
organization. If he was Prejudiced, the organization most likely never would have started. It may have
even been started, but for the complete opposite reason; to go against LGBTQ+ youth, rather than be
for them. However, the past statements are not the case, and he started the organization with the intent
of helping the individuals that need it.
People need heroes because everyone needs somebody to look up to. Dan Savage is my hero on
account of him being brave, compassionate, and unprejudiced. Considering all of the above, Dan
Savage, newspaper column writer for The Stranger, that started the It Gets Better organization for
LGBTQ+ youth, is my hero. Seeing that he holds traits that go towards my definition of the word,
Hero; A leader who can stand up and care about what they believe in without other people s judgement

America, Lows for Many, Highs for Some
Reconstruction in America during the post civil war era was a both a test and boundary pushing
experience that challenged racial laws and the livelihood of many African Americans. During this time
period it was both a struggle and battle for everyone involved but none were hit harder than that of the
black community. A great deal African Americans had to adapt to the constant fear of lynching and
discrimination that was a threat on a daily basis. Especially in America during the late 1800 s through
the 1960 s which was very nadir time for many African Americans; do to loss of multiple civil rights,

African Americans had endure when it came to living during this time period of racial tension and
opposition from white racial groups. To illustrate this point Elias Hill, who on one fateful night on
May 5th, 1871 experienced first hand the ruthlessness of the Ku Klux Klan. On this night the Ku Klux
Klan kicked in the front door of Hills home and dragged him outside along with another black boy,
where they were questioned about the burning down of white owned homes. Mr. Hill replied with I
told them it was not me; I could not burn houses . Mr. Hill and the black boy were beaten for a crime
he did not commit; all so the Ku Klux Klan could gather answers to a meeting held between Mr. Hill
and the Urban League. As a result there was fear on both sides; Mr. Hill feared that the Ku Klux

Acne Vulgaris Report
December 5th, 2015
Mrs. Cook
Acne vulgaris is a skin condition that is caused by hormone changes that cause our bodies to secrete
more oil that then mixes with dead cells at the epidermis layer and clogs our pores. This is a condition
that mostly affects teens but can also be seen on newborn babies as well as older people. It is
commonly called ACNE.
It can be characterized by small or large red bumps. Sometimes they are raised off the skin, sometimes
they are pus filled and other times they may just swell then go away. The blocked follicles can keep
bacteria trapped in the pores which allows for the bacteria to grow more rapidly. The pus filled heads
are called white heads and the harder cored pimples ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Sophocles Oedipus The King
The renowned Greek philosopher, Aristotle, is widely known for his theories in mathematics, physics,
and politics. However, he is also known for establishing ideas in the field of literature, such as the
concept of tragedy and the theory of the importance of scenes of recognition and reversal. This ancient
concept and theory are still highly discussed and used to analyze numerous pieces of literature to this
day. One piece that could be considered as an ideal tragedy is the play Oedipus the King written by
Sophocles. In this play, Sophocles utilizes the concept of tragedy as well the theory of the importance
of scenes of recognition and reversal to create a setting, tone, and mood throughout the play. Oedipus,
the mythical king of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example of the use of fear to bring emotion to the reader in Oedipus the King is when the city of
Thebes is suffering from a plague that destroys fields of crops as well as the fertility of its woman. A
blight is on the fruitful plants of the earth, a blight is on the cattle in the fields, a blight is on our
women that no children are born to them; a God that carries fire, a deadly pestilence, is on our town
(Sophocles 26 30). At the beginning of the play when Oedipus is asking the people of Thebes why
they are sitting in front of his palace, a Priest explains that there is a plague going on in the city and
they want an end to it. It is later known that the plague will never end until the murderer of Laius, the
king of Thebes before Oedipus, is found. Oedipus vows to find the murderer, which eventually leads
to him finding out he was the one who killed his father and married his own mother, thus fulfilling his
fate. This extracts pity from the reader, for all the character tried their hardest to run from the
prophecy but in the end, it still catches them. Lastly, tragedy can be seen throughout the entire play, as
readers see the steady downfall of a hero, who was heavily influenced by his hubris or pride. Aristotle
s ideal tragic hero is one the must exceed the average man intellectually, physically and mentally.
Oedipus not only travels throughout the city defeating numerous foes, but eventually becomes the
king of Thebes. Not only that, according to

Detection of the disease is first identified via clinical symptomatology namely: smell of maple syrup

branched chain amino acids (BCAAs) and allo isoleucine can be checked within the first day after the
infant had an intake of protein. During BCAA testing leucine levels are most important to note as they
will be elevated in MSUD, while isoleucine and valine could be non specific. Allo isoleucine is the
more definitive indicator of MSUD. (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK1319/). An increase in
leucine leads to a decreased in other amino acids such as: tryptophan, histidine, glutamine, glutamate,
alanine, tyrosine. Testing for the levels of these amino acids along with BCAAs could indicate that the

Argumentative Essay On Christopher Columbus Day
In 1492, Christopher Columbus sailed the ocean and discovered what we now know as the Americas...
or so it s been taught. In all actuality, there were already Native people who had been living in the
continents for thousands of years. Since 1937, the US has used this discovery as a holiday known as
Columbus Day to celebrate a man who established the beginning of colonization of the New World.
While Columbus did begin the colonization of the Americas, he was not the one who discovered them.
History tends to be told from the privileged perspective which is why it s taught that Columbus
discovered these lands. The celebration of Columbus Day promotes the idea of colonization and the
marginalization of Native Americans; people also believe it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In fact, he had reached the Taino island of Guanahani, which is now modern day San Salvador.
Because Columbus believed he was in India, he named the Indigenous people, Native Indians. While
he was not in India, the name of the Indigenous people remained. While some Natives today are okay
with the term American Indian , some also believe that the term Indian is not okay because they are
not from the country of India (Blackhorse, 2017). Whether or not the terminology is offensive, the
moment Columbus landed, the establishment of marginalization and racism toward Indigenous people
of the land began. Celebrating Columbus with Columbus day is essentially honoring racism.
Racism is defined as prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different
race based on the belief that one s own race is superior. While it may not be super obvious today, there
are offensive, discriminatory stereotypes and terms used against Natives today. One example is the use
of the racial slur Redskin as the mascot of the Washington NFL team. The racial slur was used during
a time when people would be paid to kill Native Americans (referred to as Redskins) and this is
representation of how those terms can be present in today s society. As a country, Columbus Day is
celebrated to commemorate the discovery of America and to honor the relationship between the US
and Italy, but at what cost? The truth of Columbus influence on

of illegal or shameful activity. President William Jefferson Clinton, more commonly known as Bill

government to the American people. This Democratic politician would have his two terms in office

Summary Of The Call Of Cthulhu
In the short story, The Call of Cthulhu by H.P. Love Craft, Cthulhu is described multiple times
throughout the story a giant, otherworldly, unimaginable monster with ancient origins. What if
Cthulhu is more than a giant evil monstrosity but is a representation of madness itself, and like the
narrator, the reader is doomed to a fate of madness and there s nothing we can do about it. The story is
split into three chapters that introduces us to Thurston and Angell who learned of Cthulhu and starts
researching about it, then in chapter two it gives us more detail about the fanatic cult and then in the
third chapter, we learn a horrible truth behind the monster and the cult. The story shows how anyone
who knows or anyone who even conceives the idea of Cthulhu becomes crazy or even dies. This fate
has happened to the great uncle Angell, the narrator Thurston, and even possibly us as the reader.
In chapter one, we re introduced to Thurston and we discover his great uncle, Angell, died from
mysterious circumstances and left several journals behind. Angell was a professor of Semitic
Languages at Brown University in Rhode Island. He was studying a strange statue of an otherworldly
creature on a pedestal with some hieroglyphics. Thurston describes it by saying My somewhat
extravagant imagination yielded simultaneous pictures of an octopus, a dragon, and a human

blood is not too acidic (acidosis) and not too alkaline (alkalosis). A blood pH imbalance may indicate
a lung (respiratory), metabolic, or kidney disorder.
What is being tested?
The tests may include measurements of the following: pH. This is a measure of hydrogen ion
concentration. The pH level indicates the acid base balance of your blood. With increased amounts of
carbon dioxide and other acids, the pH of your blood decreases. This means that your blood becomes
more acidic.

This can be calculated from the pH and the partial pressure of carbon dioxide. It is a measurement of
the metabolic component of the acid base balance.
Partial pressure of oxygen. This is the amount of oxygen gas that is dissolved in the blood.
Oxygen saturation. This is the percentage of hemoglobin oxygen saturation. This refers to how much
oxygen is bound to hemoglobin in the red blood cells and available to be carried through the arteries
to nourish the body s cells.
Oxygen content. This is a calculated value that indicates the amount of oxygen in the blood.
Base excess or deficit. This is a calculated number that represents a sum total of the metabolic
buffering agents (anions) in the blood.
What kind of sample is taken?
A blood sample is required for this test. It is usually collected by inserting a needle into an artery.
How do I prepare for this test?
There is no preparation or fasting required for this test.

Duadi Azibo White American Psychology
Psychology can be defined as the study of the mind and behavior. Each individual thinks differently
and have different beliefs. Also, everyone has a different personality. Therefore, everyone cannot have
the same treatment. Reading the statement by Duadi Azibo, I agree with the statement White
American psychology may not always be wholly relevant or applicable in the analysis or treatment of
Blacks or African Americans. There has been discrimination between White Americans and African
Americans, so it would be immoral to use white psychology for the treatment of Blacks or African
Americans. To treat a person of color, one must first understand the struggles that African Americans
once faced. White Americans and Blacks or African Americans

Sustainability in Mauritius
Sustainable Mauritius Brundtland report (1987) has defined the term sustainable development as the
development that meets the needs for the present without compromising the ability of the future
generations to meet their own needs Sustainable development and planning is structured essentially
around 3 elements: economic growth, social development and environmental protection. While
development is associated with social development, it is also associated with environmental disasters
if the development is not well planned. In 1992, following the international conference in Rio de
Janeiro, a number of guiding principles were established on action that countries could take to achieve
sustainable development (Agenda,21) Based on these guiding ... Show more content on

Simple Distillation Of Methanol And 2-Pentanol
A simple distillation was carried out involving a 30 mL pre mixed solution of methanol and 2 pentanol
in order to separate the two compounds by taking advantage of the differing boiling points. Since
methanol has a lower boiling point at 64.7°C, compared to 2 pentanol s boiling point of 119.3°C, it
distilled off first. Through the use of the apparatus we set up, the solution was heated on a hot plate,
the vapor that came up was cooled by the condenser into a liquid and flowed down into the receiver.
Temperature was recorded for every 2 mL of distillate collected. In addition, three 10 mL distillate
fractions were collected to be analyzed through gas chromatography. The purpose of gas
chromatography analysis was analytical for this specific

Analyzing The Three Motivational Categories Of Terrorism
The three motivational categories of terrorism are the rationally motivated terrorist, the
psychologically motivated terrorist, and the culturally motivated terrorist (Bartol, Curt, Anne Bartol,
2012). A rationally motivated terrorist tends to consider the goals of the organization while being
mindful of the possible consequences of their actions. Psychologically motivated terrorists are driven
by a sense of failure or inadequacy finding direction in charismatic leaders. Culturally motivated
terrorist s actions are based of fear of irreparable damages to their way of living, national heritage, or
culture done which has either occurred or is going to happen due to the actions an organization,

2) Frame the right problem The issue is that our department is staffing inappropriately. Our busiest
days are Monday, Tuesday and Thursday averaging forty patients per day. However, only four nurses
are scheduled on our busiest days. That is ten critical patients per nurse, which is not only unsafe but
leads to decreased morale, mistakes and an inability to leave work on time. 3) Describe end state and
goals My goal, over the course of this class is to change the staff schedule to match that of the
operating room and to transition to Stay Staffed self scheduling systems hospital wide. The daily
schedule will include but is not limited to a minimum of six nurses per day with schedules that parallel
the operating room turnover times. Also, I have begun working with upper level management on a
program that allows critically ill, intubated patients to bypass the recovery room and be directly
admitted to the critical care area that the patient is assigned to. This saves the patient and family
money and decreases patient load for the recovery room staff. My goal is to hire three new nurses and
change the staff schedule from (4) twelve hour days to (3 to 4) eight to ten hour days and create a
weekend on call team. Instead of mandatory overtime, create a sign up list and make overtime
optional. Please see example of new schedule below:

famous thinkers is that they are all share creative minds and are all creative thinkers. Creative ideas

around World War II and was commissioned as a lieutenant.
Grace Hopper went to Harvard University and was assigned to the Bureau of Ordnance Computation
Project. This is where she learned to program a Mark I computer and later worked with the Mark II
and Mark III computers. The term computer bug had come from an experience Grace had at Harvard
after finding a moth that shorted out the Mark II. She was not the author of computer bug but played
her part. She also led the team that created the first compilers for computer languages.

The Correlation Between Down Syndrome And Alzheimer s...
The Correlation between Down syndrome and Alzheimer s disease
Anna Lister
Biology Honors, P. 3
Mrs. Creech
25 November 2015
Introduction:
Alzheimer s disease (AD) is a disease that slowly and progressively causes memory impairment. It
will eventually inhibit abilities, such as language, planning, and perception. AD is prevalent in
individuals with Down syndrome (DS), a condition where those affected had acquired three additional
chromosome 21 before birth (emedicinehealth, 2014). Michael Rafii, director of the Memory
Disorders Clinic at UCSD, says that people with Down syndrome represent the world s largest
population of individuals predisposed to getting Alzheimer s disease (Hamilton, 2014). There is no
cure for either, and scientists are still lacking the knowledge of a complete story.
Beta Amyloid, Plaques, and the Destruction of Nerve Cells:
There is a large supply of amyloid plaques in the cells of people with Alzheimer s disease. Amyloid
plaques are clustered pieces of protein that build up between nerve cells. They speed up the production
of beta amyloid, which are polypeptides of about thirty six to forty three amino acids long
(emedicinehealth, 2014; Stanford Medicine, 2013). Amyloid precursor proteins (APP), when split into
specific pieces, are producers of beta amyloid. They are found in tissues and organs, such as the brain.
Amyloid precursor proteins pass through a fatty membrane on the outside of a cell. This allows them
to extend from the

First Language Acquisition In Children
Introduction:
First language acquisition is the first words that the child speaks or says and it s the process by which
the child learn, speaks and write, and it is the initial stages of language development in humans
infants, children begin learning their language since they re babies with uncorrected grammar until
many years they will be able to learn the language with a perfect grammar after going to school and
have some support with their family, on the psychology side, Many of psychologist have a different
point of view in the first language acquisition and every psychologist have a different theory about the
language acquisition. And some of the theorists says that the language is acquired while the other
theorists said that the language is learnt, so every psychologist have a theory about the language
acquisition, and in my essay I will be talking about the first language acquisition for the child, and if
the language is learnt or acquired and more of things I will be talking about.

The, The Ancient Olympics, By Nigel Spivey
In the monograph, The Ancient Olympics, Nigel Spivey examines how culture encourages and shapes
the Olympic Games, as well as become a safe haven for ancient Greece during times of conflict. This
multifaceted monograph demonstrates that the societal behavior of the Athenians shifted within
prescribed roles regarding the use of violence, the imagery of true beauty, and the love for Greece s
youth during the games. In addition to shedding light on society s enlightening interpretation of what
occurs within the gymnasia, the Olympic Games redirect a whole new meaning to conflicts that arise
on and off the Olympic stage. Although the concept of a multifaceted culture revolving around
incessant conflict is not new to the study of ancient Greece, it is Spivey s unique analysis of the
impact of the Olympic Games that make his argument so compelling to his readers. Specifically,
Spivey argues that the behaviors captured during the Olympic games in ancient Greece and Rome are
synonymous with the shifts in cultural norms observed , as well as society s reactions to incessant
conflict surrounding ancient Greece, within and outside of the Olympic gymnasia. In order to
conceptualize the very shift in cultural norms that took place during the Olympic Games within
ancient history, Nigel Spivey claims in his monograph that the societal interpretation of the Games
correlates to culturally prescribed roles regarding strife as a guiding principle of existence, the
imagery of true masculinity,

The Daffodils Comparison
Two poems that share or have a similar meaning are quot; The Daffodils quot; written by William
Wordsworth and quot;Miracle on St David #39;s Day quot; written by Gillian Clarke. Both writers
wrote their poems in different times but share a very similar meaning. The poem quot; The Daffodils
quot; inspired
quot;Miracle on St David #39;s Day quot; that William Wordsworth wrote creates a unique situation,
which occurs in Clarke #39;s poem. William Wordsworth had never seen the daffodils in which he
wrote about in his poem. Although with a unique imagination and a few details that he has, William
Wordsworth could use the details and create it into a special and unique poem which sets for a
beautiful scenery. Which allows the reader to participate and feel the true beauty of the scene. In the
poem, a conflict presents itself in the beginning of the poem, when he uses such specific words that
are very contradictory with other parts of the poem such as when he describes not being so alone, but
with other people in the other parts of the poem.
The beginning of the first poem focuses on the writer #39;s use of a strong imagination to create a
multitude and vivid set of pictures that you can imagine yourself. The happiness he gains from
creating these images in his mind, fulfill him up with even more happiness and joy.
Likewise, Clarke #39;s experience is very similar in that it s also heartwarming and joyful, it involves
many people just like William s poem. In the poem, the daffodils by William s technique is to
reconstruct an imaginary trip in which he flies above the countryside. Showing the good side of
Garcia 2 things and the good side of his mood. He describes the location of the daffodils and identifies
them by quoting something he distinctly remembers. Their beauty not only affects him and his
emotions but also the rest of the environment around him. He also comments on the huge ability that
these daffodils have raised the human spirits, and in parts of the poem he makes it very obvious that
he has been completely unaware of the huge impact the daffodils would have had on him and how
William, in the future would continuously visit this imaginary scene he has created for himself and
learn from it. William

Sustainable Development, International Law, and Trade
Sustainable Development, International Law and the Impact of Trade
At a time when trade continues to expand into the global economy, issues such as climate change,
environmental protection and sustainable development are becoming increasingly important
considerations in the process. However, the question is whether these issues are being adequately
addressed by current International trade regulations, trade agreements and International law.
According to the Australia Government, sustainable development represents one of the greatest
challenges facing Australia s governments, industry, business and community in the coming years .1
What is Sustainable Development?
The most widely accepted definition of sustainable development is from the Brundtland report,
namely, Sustainable Development is development that meets the needs of the present, without
compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. 2 This statement contains two
main aspects, first that the present generation s needs are met (intra generational equity) but more
importantly, that it is not made more difficult for future generation to meet their needs (inter
generational equity). Since the report was published, sustainable development has become an integral
part of environmental policy and has been the subject of numerous conferences and summits including
and the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) in 1992,3 the World
Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD,

Community Vs. Perception Of Alcohol
Ian Markle 10/03/2016 Community vs Paranoia The influence of alcohol has been everywhere in
human history and is undoubtedly the most dominant psychoactive substance in every human culture.
It was critical for developing countries where alcohol was key to trade. (Awkward) Alcohol was one
of the main three psychoactive products (with tobacco and caffeine) which helped drive the
globalization of trade from the 17th century. Today, the consumption of alcohol has become more
omnipresent because of how diversified drinks have become. Drinking is an increasingly globalized
cultural practice because alcohol is a substance with a global history. Producers of these alcoholic
beverages tend to be large corporations reliant on innovative marketing techniques. The global alcohol
industry is also trying to expand into developing countries while continuing to collect profits in the
saturated markets of North America and Europe. Thesis: No one knows for certain as to when humans
first produced alcohol. The original alcoholic drink could have been created from berries or honey.
But according to (quote), the discovery of late Stone Age beer containers dating back to 8000 BCE
demonstrates that humans have been fermenting alcoholic drinks for at least 10,000 years. Since then
alcohol has been produced, consumed, and traded by humans for thousands of years. An early
example of alcohol trade happens in 3000 B.C., early Mesopotamian farmers realized that the alcohol
surplus they produced

World Bank reconstruction role in Timor Leste creating problems (REFERENCE: http://www.brettonwoodsproject.org/es/2007/01/art 550872/) The World Bank came to Timor Leste in 1999, when the UN was still planning the intervention mission. The lack of attention given by the UN Transitional Administration in East Timor to economic development allowed the Bank to assume a central role. After the end of mass violence, the Bank and Fund visited Timor Leste and conducted a joint assessment mission. This was done with little consultation with the Timorese people. There were several roles played by the Bank in the reconstruction and development effort in Timor Leste: through its supervision of the Trust Fund for Timor Leste (TFET), the Bank funded ... The Bank s Community Empowerment Project aimed to establish transparent, democratic, and accountable local structures in rural areas to make decisions about development projects in a decentralised fashion. However the programme conflicted with traditional structures. Even though the Bank argues that its presence has reinforced the position of the government, the reality is that is has subordinated and marginalised it. Most of the Bank s programme does not involve the government in the decision making process, undermining the accountability of democratically elected representatives. In the end, the Bank s presence has created problems rather than solving them. They could have avoided this by if they had consulted with the Timorese people. The audience sees a plethora of people manipulating Leonard such as Teddy, Natalie and Burt. The audience generally associates these individuals as the main manipulators in Memento, however that Christopher Nolan and Leonard, respectively, manipulate the audience and themselves far more than anyone else. The color sequences begin to elude that Leonard might have mixed motives for writing something down on a photo. Teddy eludes that Leonard is a serial killer and that he killed the real John. Dan Savage Character Analysis Just by looking at him, you aren t going to know that Dan Savage is a newspaper column writer for The Stranger, that founded It Gets Better, a multimedia organization to inspire and assist LGBTQ+ youth. People need heroes because everyone needs somebody to look up to. Dan is my hero because not only is he standing up for a community, but he doesn t have to do anything about the problems in the community if he doesn t feel like doing it. In my own opinion, Dan Savage holds the characteristic of brave. He shows bravery when he stands up for who and what he believes in and that takes bravery since there will always be people against him and his beliefs in some way or another so he has to be brave enough to stay standing and to continue ... I feel that he shows sympathy and/or empathy for the problems the youth of this community are facing, since he is part of the community himself, and may have gone through the same problems. Now, your opinion may be different from mine, and you may not think that Dan could be described as unprejudiced. Although, he has shown the trait of unprejudiced by starting the It Gets Better organization. If he was Prejudiced, the organization most likely never would have started. It may have even been started, but for the complete opposite reason; to go against LGBTQ+ youth, rather than be for them. However, the past statements are not the case, and he started the organization with the intent of helping the individuals that need it. People need heroes because everyone needs somebody to look up to. Dan Savage is my hero on account of him being brave, compassionate, and unprejudiced. Considering all of the above, Dan Savage, newspaper column writer for The Stranger, that started the It Gets Better organization for LGBTQ+ youth, is my hero. Seeing that he holds traits that go towards my definition of the word, Hero; A leader who can stand up and care about what they believe in without other people s judgement clouding around their ... • 10. Sophocles Oedipus The King The renowned Greek philosopher, Aristotle, is widely known for his theories in mathematics, physics, and politics. However, he is also known for establishing ideas in the field of literature, such as the concept of tragedy and the theory of the importance of scenes of recognition and reversal. This ancient concept and theory are still highly discussed and used to analyze numerous pieces of literature to this day. One piece that could be considered as an ideal tragedy is the play Oedipus the King written by Sophocles. In this play, Sophocles utilizes the concept of tragedy as well the theory of the importance of scenes of recognition and reversal to create a setting, tone, and mood throughout the play. Oedipus, the mythical king of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An example of the use of fear to bring emotion to the reader in Oedipus the King is when the city of Thebes is suffering from a plague that destroys fields of crops as well as the fertility of its woman. A blight is on the fruitful plants of the earth, a blight is on the cattle in the fields, a blight is on our women that no children are born to them; a God that carries fire, a deadly pestilence, is on our town (Sophocles 26 30). At the beginning of the play when Oedipus is asking the people of Thebes why they are sitting in front of his palace, a Priest explains that there is a plague going on in the city and they want an end to it. It is later known that the plague will never end until the murderer of Laius, the king of Thebes before Oedipus, is found. Oedipus vows to find the murderer, which eventually leads to him finding out he was the one who killed his father and married his own mother, thus fulfilling his fate. This extracts pity from the reader, for all the character tried their hardest to run from the prophecy but in the end, it still catches them. Lastly, tragedy can be seen throughout the entire play, as readers see the steady downfall of a hero, who was heavily influenced by his hubris or pride. Aristotle s ideal tragic hero is one the must exceed the average man intellectually, physically and mentally. • 12. Argumentative Essay On Christopher Columbus Day In 1492, Christopher Columbus sailed the ocean and discovered what we now know as the Americas... or so it s been taught. In all actuality, there were already Native people who had been living in the continents for thousands of years. Since 1937, the US has used this discovery as a holiday known as Columbus Day to celebrate a man who established the beginning of colonization of the New World. While Columbus did begin the colonization of the Americas, he was not the one who discovered them. Whether or not the terminology is offensive, the moment Columbus landed, the establishment of marginalization and racism toward Indigenous people of the land began. Celebrating Columbus with Columbus day is essentially honoring racism. Racism is defined as prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one s own race is superior. While it may not be super obvious today, there are offensive, discriminatory stereotypes and terms used against Natives today. One example is the use of the racial slur Redskin as the mascot of the Washington NFL team. The racial slur was used during a time when people would be paid to kill Native Americans (referred to as Redskins) and this is representation of how those terms can be present in today s society. The Correlation between Down syndrome and Alzheimer s disease Anna Lister Biology Honors, P. 3 Mrs. Creech 25 November 2015 Introduction: Alzheimer s disease (AD) is a disease that slowly and progressively causes memory impairment. It will eventually inhibit abilities, such as language, planning, and perception. AD is prevalent in individuals with Down syndrome (DS), a condition where those affected had acquired three additional chromosome 21 before birth (emedicinehealth, 2014). Michael Rafii, director of the Memory Disorders Clinic at UCSD, says that people with Down syndrome represent the world s largest population of individuals predisposed to getting Alzheimer s disease (Hamilton, 2014). There is no cure for either, and scientists are still lacking the knowledge of a complete story. Beta Amyloid, Plaques, and the Destruction of Nerve Cells: There is a large supply of amyloid plaques in the cells of people with Alzheimer s disease. Amyloid plaques are clustered pieces of protein that build up between nerve cells. They speed up the production of beta amyloid, which are polypeptides of about thirty six to forty three amino acids long (emedicinehealth, 2014; Stanford Medicine, 2013). The, The Ancient Olympics, By Nigel Spivey In the monograph, The Ancient Olympics, Nigel Spivey examines how culture encourages and shapes the Olympic Games, as well as become a safe haven for ancient Greece during times of conflict. This multifaceted monograph demonstrates that the societal behavior of the Athenians shifted within prescribed roles regarding the use of violence, the imagery of true beauty, and the love for Greece s youth during the games. In addition to shedding light on society s enlightening interpretation of what occurs within the gymnasia, the Olympic Games redirect a whole new meaning to conflicts that arise on and off the Olympic stage. Although the concept of a multifaceted culture revolving around incessant conflict is not new to the study of ancient Greece, it is Spivey s unique analysis of the impact of the Olympic Games that make his argument so compelling to his readers. Specifically, Spivey argues that the behaviors captured during the Olympic games in ancient Greece and Rome are synonymous with the shifts in cultural norms observed , as well as society s reactions to incessant conflict surrounding ancient Greece, within and outside of the Olympic gymnasia. In order to conceptualize the very shift in cultural norms that took place during the Olympic Games within ancient history, Nigel Spivey claims in his monograph that the societal interpretation of the Games correlates to culturally prescribed roles regarding strife as a guiding principle of existence, the imagery of true masculinity, ... The Daffodils Comparison Two poems that share or have a similar meaning are quot; The Daffodils quot; written by William Wordsworth and quot;Miracle on St David #39;s Day quot; written by Gillian Clarke. Both writers wrote their poems in different times but share a very similar meaning. The poem quot; The Daffodils quot; inspired quot;Miracle on St David #39;s Day quot; that William Wordsworth wrote creates a unique situation, which occurs in Clarke #39;s poem. William Wordsworth had never seen the daffodils in which he wrote about in his poem. Although with a unique imagination and a few details that he has, William Wordsworth could use the details and create it into a special and unique poem which sets for a beautiful scenery. Which allows the reader to participate and feel the true beauty of the scene. In the poem, a conflict presents itself in the beginning of the poem, when he uses such specific words that are very contradictory with other parts of the poem such as when he describes not being so alone, but with other people in the other parts of the poem. The beginning of the first poem focuses on the writer #39;s use of a strong imagination to create a multitude and vivid set of pictures that you can imagine yourself. The happiness he gains from creating these images in his mind, fulfill him up with even more happiness and joy. Likewise, Clarke #39;s experience is very similar in that it s also heartwarming and joyful, it involves many people just like William s poem. In the poem, the daffodils by William s technique is to reconstruct an imaginary trip in which he flies above the countryside. Showing the good side of Garcia 2 things and the good side of his mood. He describes the location of the daffodils and identifies them by quoting something he distinctly remembers. Their beauty not only affects him and his emotions but also the rest of the environment around him. He also comments on the huge ability that these daffodils have raised the human spirits, and in parts of the poem he makes it very obvious that he has been completely unaware of the huge impact the daffodils would have had on him and how William, in the future would continuously visit this imaginary scene he has created for himself and learn from it. Perception Of Alcohol Ian Markle 10/03/2016 Community vs Paranoia The influence of alcohol has been everywhere in human history and is undoubtedly the most dominant psychoactive substance in every human culture. It was critical for developing countries where alcohol was key to trade. (Awkward) Alcohol was one of the main three psychoactive products (with tobacco and caffeine) which helped drive the globalization of trade from the 17th century. Today, the consumption of alcohol has become more omnipresent because of how diversified drinks have become. Drinking is an increasingly globalized cultural practice because alcohol is a substance with a global history. Producers of these alcoholic beverages tend to be large corporations reliant on innovative marketing techniques. The global alcohol industry is also trying to expand into developing countries while continuing to collect profits in the saturated markets of North America and Europe. Thesis: No one knows for certain as to when humans first produced alcohol. The original alcoholic drink could have been created from berries or honey. But according to (quote), the discovery of late Stone Age beer containers dating back to 8000 BCE demonstrates that humans have been fermenting alcoholic drinks for at least 10,000 years.
