Chinook Salmon Essay
The lifecycle of the New Zealand chinook salmon is conventional to that of salmon in the North
Pacific. chinook salmon (Otherwise known as quinnat or king salmon) mature in the ocean, they
typically will reach sexual maturity at 3 years old, but this can vary anything between 2 7 years.
(Females take longer than males.) Upon reaching sexual maturity, they will migrate upstream to
spawn. Spawning usually occurs in autumn, immediately after all adults die, as the energy expenditure
of the process is too significant to recover. The eggs will hatch in early spring, and the chinook will
spend several months in the fresh water (some populations spend up to a year) before they migrate
downstream into the ocean, only to repeat the process over. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Euryhaline fish species are able to adapt to a wide range of salinities. This is absolutely crucial for the
chinook salmon to survive in the various conditions it is challenged by. Typically, an ocean has a
salinity of 35 ppt (parts per thousand), whereas freshwater has a salinity of less than 0.5 ppt. The
chinook is challenged with keeping the concentration and composition of their body fluids within
homeostatic limits while migrating through these continual changes in water salinity. Homeostasis
refers to the relatively constant physiological state of the body despite fluctuations in the external
environment. To be more specific the chinook salmon must regulate water potential in order to sustain
fluid and electrolyte balance within its body relative to its surroundings. This is achieved through a
process called osmoregulation. Osmoregulation is crucial for the chinook to maintain optimal osmotic
pressure within the body, this is the way by which it can withhold a suitable concentration of solutes
and amount of water in its body fluids. Osmosis is the net movement of water or solvent molecules
across a semi permeable membrane from a region of low solute concentration to high concentration.
The chinook salmon proves to be an excellent example of an organism that displays the application of
osmoregulation in order to survive and complete the lifecycle required of it to spawn and pass on its

Summary Of This Boy s Life By Tobias Wolff
The memoir, This Boy s Life, by Tobias Wolff is about a boy fighting an internal battle between bad
behavior and good morale; at the end of the book Toby becomes a good boy, but has many bumps in
his journey. For example, when Toby and his mother move into Dwight s house, he doesn t tell his
mother that Dwight is an abusive person. So when his mother was nearby Toby would lie and confirm
all his lying implications that we (Toby and Dwight) were pals and our life together was a good one
(99, Wolff). Toby kept quiet about the violence because he thinks that his mother is happy with
Dwight and he doesn t want to mess up their relationship. Secondly, when Toby is sent off to live at
the farm, he siphones gas from the Welch s car. Just afterwards,

The Pros And Cons Of The Crusades
The Crusades were a series of wars inspired by conflicting religious ideologies, specifically between
Christians and Muslims. A series being, that between the years 1096 and 1291, nine major military
expeditions occurred. Christian Muslim interactions between the 1000 1500 centuries were mostly
negative then positive. The justification for war included securing and gaining control of the holy
lands or territories sacred to both groups (Damascus, The River Jordan, Jerusalem, and numerous
others) and to diffuse or universalize their religious ideologies to those living in the eastern
hemisphere. Jerusalem was considered the holiest of all sites, because it was significantly important to
both religions, in different ways. To Christians, Jerusalem represents; the place of birth, ministry,
crucifixion, and resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth, the Savior or Messiah to Christianity. However, to
Muslims, Jerusalem houses the Al Aqsa Mosque (the third holiest site in Islam), in which they believe
Muhammad was transported to during the Night Journey (a physical and spiritual journey) from the
Sacred Mosque in Mecca. Islamic hero or leader of the Crusades, Saladin, is credited with re
conquesting Jerusalem from the Christians, uniting Muslim fractions and states, while enabling and
promoting Islamic faith and practices to exist in Jerusalem. Saladin was born in 1138, to a military
family, in Tikrit (modern day Iraq). He gained his dominance among ancient civilizations through his

Hillary Clinton Speech Analysis
At the fourth U.N. conference, Hillary Clinton gave a powerful speech about women s rights. Hillary
Clinton emphasizes that although women have been given more freedom and rights as the years went
by, it still isn t enough. In her speech, Clinton goes on to say that if women are free from violence,
their families will flourish. If women have a chance to work and earn as full and equal partners in
society, their families will flourish. And when families flourish, their communities and nations do as
well . Hillary Clinton used appeals to emotions, logic, and ethics to convey to the audience that
women s rights should be normalized and embraced around the world.
Hillary Rodham Clinton has many titles under her belt such as politician , first lady , senator etc. but
no title gives her a bigger sense of pride than being a woman . She believes to be a woman is to be
strength, power, and grace which she exudes with every step she takes. Growing up, Clinton always
dreamed of being a significant figure in the progression of women s rights. Some of the prominent
steps that Clinton took to pave the way for women and children include: becoming an advocate for
kids and families at the Children s Defense Fund, fighting for the Family and Medical Leave Act,
working to increase funding for childcare, and helping to start the National Campaign to End Teen and
Unplanned Pregnancy.

Rabbit Is Rich John Updike
Ever since the Middle Ages when royal family members fought for power of the throne, families still
grapple with the issue of hierarchy in society. It is what can tear apart families, making them fight
over who is right in certain situations. This is shown in the main plot of the story when Harry and his
mother in law, Bessie, argue over whether Harry s son, Nelson, can work with him at Springer Motors.
Each side believes it is right, and gives it s own opinion on if Nelson can be an employee. In the novel
Rabbit is Rich, author John Updike uses points of view to convey the conflict of social hierarchy in
the Springer Motors company. Harry s mother in law, Bessie, whose husband owned Springer Motors
before he died, is on the higher end of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He is the cause of the dilemma in the story; he has no degree from Kent State and has gotten his soon
to be wife, Pru, pregnant, so he must provide for his new family. When Harry keeps denying Nelson
the job, he is distraught and says he thinks he is so great. That s what gets me, his happiness. He is so
happy (Updike, 152). In his point of view, Harry is a bad man that does not deserve to be rich and
happy, and it irks him to see his dad be successful. He also knows that as long as his dad is successful,
he is unlikely to get the job since his dad is the one hiring him, making it difficult to raise the

Patrice Lumumba’s Struggle Against Belgian Imperialism Essay
Patrice Lumumba s Struggle Against Belgian Imperialism
It is hard to believe that in 2002 there is still imperialism being practiced in the world, but the fact of
the matter is, it is. Imperialism is the policy of extending a nation s territory or power by establishing
dominance over other nations. A modern example of imperialism is the Congo.
At the 1885 Berlin Conference, where the European powers carved up most of Africa among
themselves, they sanctioned the claim of Belgian King Leopold II to sole authority over the Congo, a
land mass 75 times the area of Belgium. The Congo was virtually his private property. He wiped out
some 10 million people, around half the population, in his determination to extract every ... Show

However, Lumumba s intentions became clear from his Independence Day speech. He said,
We have known sarcasm and insults, endured blows morning, noon and night because we were
niggers ... We have seen our lands despoiled under the terms of what was supposedly the law of the
lad but which only recognised the right of the strongest. We have seen that this law was quite different
for a white than for a black: accommodating for the former, cruel and inhuman for the latter.
It is evident from this excerpt that Lumumba s Congo would not be one where the Belgians could
remain in complete control.
The imperialist powers, led by Washington together with Brussels, undertook a series of operations
designed to undermine the new Lumumba led government. Less than two weeks after Congo s
independence, the former Belgian rulers succeeded in organizing a secessionist movement in the
province of Katanga, where U.S. and European companies had vast mineral holdings. On July 11,
1960, Moise Tshombe, a wealthy businessman and leader of the UCOL party who bitterly opposed
Lumumba, declared Katanga s separation from the Congo. UCOL originally stood for the Union for
Colonization but then was later changed to the Union for the Collaboration of the Middle Classes in
Katanga due to the feverish anti colonial spirit in the Congo. Brussels sent 10,000 troops to Katanga to

Workplace Violence And Its Effects On The Workplace
Employees encountering the biggest number of vicious attacks are those in medicinal services
occupations attendants specifics, and specialists, medical attendants and assistants who manage
psychiatric patients; individuals from crisis restorative reaction groups; and doctor s facility workers
working in confirmations, crisis rooms, and emergency or intense consideration unit.
This is violence committed by an aggressor who either gets administrations from or is under the
custodial supervision of the influenced work environment or the casualty. The aggressors can be
present or previous clients or customers, for example, travelers, patients, understudies, prisoners,
criminal suspects or detainees. The specialists regularly give direct administrations to general society,
for instance, civil transport or railroad drivers, human services and social administration suppliers,
instructors and deals work force. Law requirement staff is additionally in danger of strike from the
people over whom they apply custodial supervision. (Oliver, 2015).
3) Violence by co workers
This sort of workplace violence gets a large portion of the media space. It happens when a specialist
enters the working environment and carries on brutally against an administrator or collaborator. To
keep this sort of violence, manager or leaders in the workplace must always search for indications of
mental pain, for example, a withdrawal from socialization, an increment in at work unsettling and a

Successful Find Sociology
For this class I chose the title, Working with Others for a Successful Find. In archeology there are
many steps a person must take in order to have a successful find. A successful find is not just when
you find an object in the dirt or ground, it is when you find an object and find new information about
the past. The only way to know about the past is to talk to someone who would know what that object
is. This can be a historian, fellow colleague, and especially a descendant of who the object belongs to.
An example in which I am referring to when I say a descendant of who the object belongs to, is like
when Janet D. Spector talks to Carrie Schommer and Chris Cavendar about the Dakota people. These
two individuals are descendants of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In these groups they would have to act out the part as if they were either Native Americans, the
archeologists, or the state/country officials. The last group would be the jury members and I would be
the judge. Once I assigned them to a specific group they would have a short time to discuss with one
another the argument that they would make. They would be arguing against one another that they
should have the objects that were found. First each group would give their opening argument. After
each group finished that then they would have an open floor in which they would be able to debate
each other. Once they were finished debating and each group made their closing remarks then the jury
would go and deliberate to determine who gets the objects. When the jury returns I would read aloud
the decision. The group who made the best argument will win a prize. Their prize will be all of the
artifacts that were found from the first assignment. This second assignment ties back in with the first
theme as well because it requires the students to work with one another in order to be successful and
win the debate. So overall my class would be all about the students working with one another to
achieve success as well as trying to determine who would receive the artifacts that are found in Native
American lands. At the end of my class

Self Destruction In The Kite Runner
Finally, each author was able to make the most out of the theme, self destruction, until the final
conclusion of it. Amir has lived a life of misery since he selfishly chose to abandon Hassan, yet after
so long Amir has finally made the selfless choice, for he is determined to save Sohrab [Hassan s son],
even if it means confronting Assef [the person who sexualy abused Hassan], and by doing so finally
felt healed. Healed at last , for his body was broken , but his soul is cleansed (Hosseini 289). Hosseini
brilliantly ended the theme in such a daring way. Bring Assef back was something that readers did not
anticipate would happen. He made the theme go in a full circle, from Assef harming Hassan to Assef
harming Amir. Similarly, Sophocles ends

American Involvement in Ww1
World War I (WWI), which was predominantly called the World War or the Great War from its
occurrence until 1939, and the First World War or World War I thereafter, was a major war centered in
Europe that began on 28 July 1914 and lasted until 11 November 1918. It involved all the world s
great powers, which were assembled in two opposing alliances: the Allies (centered on the Triple
Entente of the United Kingdom, France and Russia) and the Central Powers (originally centered on
the Triple Alliance of Germany, Austria Hungary and Italy). These alliances both reorganized (Italy
fought for the Allies), and expanded as more nations entered the war. Ultimately more than 70 million

Anglo French trenches were only intended to be temporary before their forces broke through German
defenses. Both sides tried to break the stalemate using scientific and technological advances. On 22
April 1915 at the Second Battle of Ypres, the Germans (violating the Hague Convention) used
chlorine gas for the first time on the Western Front. Algerian troops retreated when gassed and a six
kilometer (four mile) hole opened in the Allied lines that the Germans quickly exploited, taking
Kitchener s Wood. Canadian soldiers closed the breach at the Second Battle of Ypres. At the Third
Battle of Ypres, Canadian and ANZAC troops took the village of Passchendaele. At the start of the
war, the German Empire had cruisers scattered across the globe, some of which were subsequently
used to attack Allied merchant shipping. The British Royal Navy systematically hunted them down,
though not without some embarrassment from its inability to protect Allied shipping. For example, the
German detached light cruiser SMS Emden, part of the East Asia squadron stationed at Tsingtao,
seized or destroyed 15 merchantmen, as well as sinking a Russian cruiser and a French destroyer.
However, most of the German East Asia squadron consisting of the armored cruisers Scharnhorst and

knowledge of the context first time they are seen alone with the candidate aware tacitly of the irony of
that. This is characterised by the candidate as distant, tense and cold because of the hasty marriage .
But there is no more detailed context offered, so that the Mousetrap is ignored and the refused chance

clear explanation of why this passage is significant in terms of either the relationship or the

Why Did The President Trump Give More Power
Eventually, on March 27th, along with other disapproval s from the CRA, the President signed H.J.
Res. 44 into law. When Trump took office, he talked about giving more power to the people, and he
supposedly did that through this resolution. Instead of allowing the BLM to have the ultimate say, it
gives more power to corporations. Similarly to signing the Stream Protection disapproval, Trumps
motive in his signing was to deregulate America in hopes of more jobs. Paul Larkin, a research for the
Heritage Foundation claimed, During the presidential campaign, President Trump expressed concern
that overregulation has handicapped industry s ability to maintain existing jobs and generate new ones,
(Larken). By limiting the BLM authority, some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On, Nov. 14, 2000, President Clinton s Occupational Safety and Health Administration finalized an
ergonomics regulation meant to reduce instances of wrist pain, back problems, and other injuries
stemming from repetitive tasks at work. Republicans controlled both chambers at this point, but in
order to nullify the rule means 2/3 of both chambers would have to support the congressional veto.
But in 2001, George W. Bush was sworn in as President. Republicans then had control of both
chambers of Congress and the Presidency. Therefore, because the ergonomic regulation fell into the 60
day window, through the CRA, Congress and Bush could override the regulation. After Bush signed
the disapproval into law, he states, This resolution is a good and proper use of the [Congressional
Review] Act because the different branches of our Government need to be held accountable. There
needs to be a balance between and an understanding of the costs and benefits associated with Federal
regulations, (Agragna). Even though the Bush administration didn t use the CRA as a way to regulate
his executive branch, many claim this was a good use of the congressional device, but Trump signing
14 CRA resolutions that repealed his predecessor s work proves how law making is becoming more
unorthodox. The CRA is definitely not a very well known tool used to make legislation. In fact, Emily

The Penn State child abuse scandal in 2011 left students, alumni, and even fans in a disarray of
thoughts. Not only were Sandusky s actions brutality and betrayal, but also those Penn State

Enzyme And The Enzyme Of Enzyme Essay
Introduction:
An enzyme is a macromolecule that works as a catalyst and speeds up chemical reactions through a
substrate that binds to the active site of the enzyme. When this process occurs, the enzyme lowers the
activation energy needed. This allows the reactant molecules to reach a state where they can complete
a reaction in most temperatures. The enzyme is not consumed when a chemical reaction is taking
place, however, it s shape changes in order to create a proper space for a substrate to bind to. Since the
enzyme is not consumed in the process of reactions, it can begin to lower the activating energy of
another process as soon as the first process is complete and it has returned to its original shape.
Without the assistance of enzymes, the pathways of metabolism in humans would be obstructed
because every process would take so long (Smith et., 2015). For every reaction completed, a different,
specific enzyme is utilized. Therefore, each location of each enzyme in the cell is very specific. The
speed of the enzyme that is being utilized is dependent on factors that are found in the environment,
for example, pH, temperature and the specific chemical reaction that will be occurring. The rate that a
catalyst can be most beneficial with regard to temperature is directly proportional to the increase in
temperature until the optimal temperature is reached. However, after the optimal temperature is
reached, if the temperature continues to be increased, the rate of the

Tracking Pba Schedule
INTRODUCTORY SUMMARY
In the past two years, our company has consistently missed the release dates for our PBA (printed
board assembly) products. These missed releases have resulted in fines to the company, and extreme
customer dissatisfaction. We have had to reduce our workforce considerably over the past year, and in
the process, we have lost experienced employee talent. Middle management has accepted the
challenge to develop a PBA Design to Release Spreadsheet. This spreadsheet process will assist our
Research and Development organization in achieving the company s goal to honor its contractual
obligations to customers. Since budget cuts are in place, the spreadsheet will be developed based on
existing resources and work force. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once each group has agreed upon their responsibilities, the Team Lead will present the list to the Core
Team. In the past, when this kind of information has been collected, the biggest concern expressed
from all of the groups is the limited amount of time they have to complete their job efficiently. Their
main concern is limited personnel and resources. This spreadsheet tracking process will present a
work culture challenge in the way our teams approach their tasks.
CORE TEAM REVIEWS EACH GROUP S DEFINITION OF DUTIES
After each group has completed their list of tasks and timelines, the Core Team reviews the combined
results. The Core Team s goal is to evaluate the lists, and incorporate them into the final spreadsheet.
The spreadsheet will define the fundamental duties and timelines to complete for each group. The
ultimate goal is to get the product to the customer within eight months.
CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
The logical approach is to start to perform the design work in parallel across groups, when practical.
This practice of concurrent engineering is commonly used by understaffed, schedule driven
companies. Using this method, each group can be working on their portion of the design, without
having to wait for the previous group to complete their portion. When the schedule of the PBA release
has been established, an excel spreadsheet is generated with each participant s responsibilities and

Brokers of Deceit by Rashid Khalidi
Focus on Palestinian Israeli conflicts in recent history, where Israel has won time after time and the
Palestinian people have been shattered and dispersed. (p.xiii)
3 major patterns in US policy in the middle east have emerged: 1) the US can do as it likes because the
Arab gulf states depend on the US in order to not be overthrown 2) ignoring other Arab gulf states
wishes and opinions 3) ignoring the fate of the Palestinian people.
Intent of the book is to show that USA has acted as a dishonest broker between Israel and the US, and
has instead acted as israel s lawyer (p.xxxvi)
Palestinian human rights, peace processes, and their right to self determination was not brought back
up again until George hw bush took office in the 90s.
Brokers of deceit is concise and easily accessible examination of how over more than thirty decades
the U.S. has been gaming the peace process for it s own benefit rather than to achieving a lasting and
just peace between the Israeli and Palestinian people.
Khalidi participated in peace negotiations in the 1990 s as an advisor so he cites original, unreleased
documents showing American and Israeli positions.
Khalidi says that the foundation of America s long term ongoing bias towards Israel is the Palestinians
lack of a size able domestic U.S. constituency.
Finding justice for the Palestinian refugees displaced from their homes by Israel would require that
Israel displace its own settlers that it encouraged to move

Jesus as a Figure in History: a Wealth of Information for Those Already Informed
Jesus Christ is one of the most recognizable figures in the modern world. And the legacies of few
people have sparked as many wars, built as many nations, and changed as many individual s lives, as
Jesus of Nazareth. Understandably, scholars and spiritualists alike have striven to answer one central
question, who was this Jesus? To some, He is known as the Son of God, who overcame death and sin,
offering salvation through His resurrection for all who place their faith in him. To others, He was
merely a carpenter from the small town of Nazareth, living in the early years of the Common Era. And
trying to figure out much else about Jesus is one of the most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In antiquity, historical thought was not what we would recognize as history today. Those who lived
alongside Jesus, or wrote about Him in contemporary times were not concerned so much with what
was but with what ought to have been. They wrote biographies with some sort of pre conceived
posture of who Jesus was, and molded the story to present that character. This was not seen as
dishonest in ancient times; in fact, it was considered the truest of histories.
But in the age of the Enlightenment, scholars began concerning themselves with the historical validity
of the subjects they studied. This began the first wave of historical Jesus scholarship. At this time,
various scholars became intent on discovering the historical Jesus, and began writing various works,
presented as the life of Jesus. But these writings suffered from an integral flaw, which has infected
historical Jesus scholarship until today. Rather than being works of discovery, they were truly projects.
Powell argues well, in his first chapter on the history of the historical Jesus movement, that a life of
Jesus would typically impose some grand scheme or hypothesis upon the material that allowed
everything to be interpreted in accord with a consistent paradigm... [and] exclude material in the
Gospels that did not fit with this paradigm... (Powell, 12) Powell takes a

Introduction
Most folks in the workforce believe they are obligated to do their best at their job simply because that
is what is expected. I am one of those individuals who take pride in my job and I do it well but set a
part from being a way to afford life s expenses, I m always in search of my legacy. The legacy I want
is embodied in my desire to showcase a body of work that demonstrates the three units of intrinsic
motivation that Dan Pink attributes to the most creative workers; Autonomy, Mastery, and Purpose
(Pink 2009). On the other hand, there are those folks out there that want to only do as much as they
can get away with doing. Regardless of which type of employee makes up, an organization, leaders
need to understand the science and application of motivation in business processes. Motivation comes
in many forms such as money, benefits, or simple recognition; extrinsic and intrinsic. The right type of
motivation can lead to exponentially higher productivity and profits and that is what we are all looking
for in business.
The aim of this paper is to provide an analysis of what science teaches about motivation and give a
contrast between intrinsic and extrinsic rewards as they relate to employee productivity. Additionally,
this paper will include identifying and elaborating on

Analysis of Politics in The Republic of Turkey
The book follows the author s preceding work on the two Ankara parliaments during the War of
Independence and studies the parliaments of the Republic of Turkey from 1923 to 1946, roughly the
time known as the single party period when the political power was monopolized by the Republican
People s Party (CHP Cumhuriyet Halk Fırkası/Partisi). In his former research Demirel had given a
large place to political disputes in the Turkish parliament by highlighting the actions of the fraction
opposed to the group under the guidance of Mustafa Kemal (Atatürk). The scope of his research has
changed, since the parliaments he deals with were composed nearly exclusively by deputies of the
single party, giving way to what Mete Tunçay has called an unanimous democracy (24). Nevertheless,
the book is part of a historiographical current that challenges the discourse the kemalist regime has
had on its proper history and insists on political contradictions in the formative processes of the early
Republic. In his analysis, the author draws mostly upon the official parliamentary publication, with
some references to the press and to memoirs by leading politicians. He meticulously scrutinizes the
composition of the six parliaments from 1923 to 1946 and presents valuable empirical data on the
deputies, like age, geographical origin, education, profession, or seniority in parliament. Demirel
processes the empirical data by analyzing the transition between two parliaments, and highlighting the

Asian Athlete Stereotypes
In US sports, Asian or Asian American athletes are almost nonexistent, particularly in basketball,
football, and hockey. When they do appear, these athletes may be devalued, dismissed, and/or simply
go unnoticed and unconsidered. In a sports world dominated by Black and White, Asian athletes are
being denied roles due to their perceived abilities. According to The Jeremy Lin Effect: Being an
Asian Sport Psychology Consultant in a Black and White World , Alexander Brian Yu, Thomas

decreases the opportunities they are given to participate in professional sports in the United States.

Because individuals in sports who make the roster decisions have such high power they tend to
overlook, under respect, or devalue others because of those persons races and/or ethnicities. These are
subtle forms of racism that may not be known by anyone as a conscious action, but are created by
negative stereotypes. This presents itself in sports especially because of how big of a discrepancy there
is between the number of Asians and the amount of Whites and Blacks in professional sports in the
United States. I can agree with the point that stereotypes are decreasing the opportunities for Asians in
sports. Whether you want to deny it or not, Asians are not viewed as the primary choice for any
athletic event in the United States, and that is shown especially in the NBA where there is only one
Asian player on a roster, Jeremy Lin. Although I do want to point out that the discrepancy there is that
in the United States White and Black races make up a much larger part of the population than Asians
do; therefore, there is a statistically smaller chance for an Asian in the United States to have the talent
to play professional sports than a White or

Characteristics Of Identical Twins
In our opinion, twins reared in different conditions will display some of the same traits. However, it
depends on certain aspects as well. To start off, Twin studies are a significant tool to investigate the
nature versus nurture argument. Identical twins, or monozygotic twins, are siblings that have the exact
same genotypes whereas fraternal twins are dizygotic twins that only share half of their genes
together. Fraternal twins are similar to siblings, except they have of the exact age. As Plomin, DeFries,
McClearn, and Rutter (1997) stated that if one twin has dark hair, then the other twin has dark hair as
well; where the concept of identical genes would ideally distribute itself towards the phenotypes of
behavior and personality of identical twins .
Twins reared in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Parents who dress their twins up in the same outfits or get them the same set of toys does not
contribute to twins who have the same traits. It shows that a common environment does not give much
impact in developing personalities. Mischel (1981) has also attested to this issue saying that genes and
glands are different, but social learning plays a dramatic role. People develop vast differences through
the stimuli they face in their daily life. Despite being reared in the same environment (their home),
both twins could have had different sets of friends. Thus, going through their school years having
different experiences and facing different challenges. As a whole they will have completely different
hobbies and interests.
Hence, we think that twins will display the same trait even though they were brought up in different
environments because traits have more to do with genetics rather than environment. Which is why
identical twins are more similar when compared to fraternal twins despite both being reared apart.
This is due to the higher similarity in genetic makeup for identical twins when compared to fraternal

How Far Do You Agree That Socialist Realism Was Stalin’s...
Stalin had several methods of social control that gave him such a powerful rule in Russia that even
today he still has supporters. Socialist Realism was an essential method to create this, although it was
not the most important method of social control. Socialist Realism was the second most important
method of social control as it was very effective, but not as effective as the Terror. Social Realism
allowed Stalin to be portrayed in a positive light but it was also an attempt to use art forms to sell
government economic and social policy to the Russian people. Artists were made to abandon their
new methods and instead forced to create more traditional pieces of art, such as Roses For Stalin
(Boris Vladimirski, 1949). This painting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This caused Stalin to gain a lot of support due to the sense of fear in the population, which also made
them fear Stalin himself. This gave Stalin a greater power in Russia as anyone who was reluctant to
follow him before had no choice but to obey him. Show trials were a crucial part of the Terror as they
made many people fear the consequences of going against Stalin. In show trials, the aim was not to
establish innocence or guilt as the guilt of the non Communists on trial were assumed guilty from the
start. This would show the Communists as the only trustworthy party. However, in 1936, Communists
were on trial such as Zinoviev and Kamenev. They were charged with the mysterious murder of Kirov,
a considered threat to Stalin. Although they pleaded their innocence in jail, they were persuaded to
confess. This portrayed Stalin as the only trustworthy member of the Communists and so, he should
be leader. Moreover, the Terror was Stalin s most important method of social control as it forced
people to follow him or face extreme consequences. The cult of personality was one of Stalin s most
important methods of social control. This method gave the impression that Stalin wanted to help
people and improve the living standards in Russia, and most importantly made him seem like a great
leader. This

Texas is a true melting pot and it is the differing cultures that make Texas great. Although there are
many native Texans born each day, there are just as many that migrate across the country to make
Texas their home (Wyly Wyly, 2012, p. 29). In the beginning, Texas was settled by Scots Irish,
Germans, Czech, Poles, and Italians. However, the greatest influence on the identity of Texas was
shaped by the Hispanic culture when they left Mexico behind to make Texas their home (Wyly Wyly,

U.S. Army officers in 1922. Nearly 90 years later, it is now an organization with more than 7.4 million
members, offering banking, investing, retirement and insurance services worldwide. Since its
inception, USAA has expanded membership eligibility to include all members of the Armed Forces

Weakness #2 No Particular Agent The second organizational weakness is the lack of personalized
service. It s impossible to give personal attention to as many members as USAA has like it is for a
smaller community bank and insurance provider. Since the organization is so large, it is easy to feel
lost in the mix and just another number. Smaller community banks and insurance providers have the
benefit of getting to know their clients personally, may be better able to serve their specific concerns
and clients tend to be more comfortable doing business with someone from their own community with
whom they deal with consistently. Also, it can be frustrating that you are unable to speak to the same
representative twice when calling a large business such as USAA. USAA can minimize this weakness
by creating teams of representatives for their members. Each member can be assigned to a team of 5 7
USAA representatives, one of which will be answering that members concern. Teams would be
comprised of representatives from each specialty (IRA planning, mortgage help, banking etc.) and be
available only to their customers. This strategy would provide comfort to the members who like to
deal with the same individuals when doing business.
Section III Opportunities and Threats
Two opportunities presented to USAA are to expand the number of physical locations both
domestically and nationally and to provide additional services to programs already being used. Two

The Effects Of Nicotine Dependence On Adolescents
Hypothesis:
In the study it was hypothesized that as the nicotine dependence progresses it would lead to low
positivity in the mood, high negativity in the mood, and higher mood variability. The study also
observed whether nicotine dependence in a person changes after increasing the frequency of the
person smoking during the course of the study.
Methods:
a. Participants
In the study, the participants who were recruited were from the SECASP project. The study was a
longitudinal study based on examining the smoking behavior amidst 12,970 young adolescents,
studying in high school in ninth and tenth grade, recruited from 16 different Chicago high schools.
These young participants were examined based on their smoking behavior and the results were used as
part of the longitudinal study by associating it with 1,263 participants with variability in smoking
experiences. However, a part of the study s data was collected to observe the mood behavior
associated with smoking, but the result of the effects did not show any nicotine dependence change.
(Piasecki, Hedeker, Dierker, and Mermelstein, 2014)
On the other hand, the research study also had a sub study known as the EMA study in which out of
461 young participants 329 data was analyzed reporting their smoking behavior past 30 days, and
completing their EMA recording and their Nicotine Dependence scale. Based on the criteria of the

My Reflection Of My Fitness Program
I really enjoyed my fitness program because thanks to it I realized that I am good at doing physical
performance when I am motivated. In this occasion, I was motivated because when I set myself an
objective I make sure I accomplish it or at least I try very hard to accomplish it. Also, this was an
important work that I had to do for sports (it was practically the whole grading for this partial).
I liked this activity, and thanks to it I was able to rediscover myself an adapt a healthier lifestyle. This
activity showed me that I can do whatever I propose if I am motivated. It also showed me that I can be
a persistent person. It showed me that I can be a persistent person because sometimes, when doing my
fitness plan, I thought that the exercises were really hard, but I didn t give up. I worked hard, and I
persist on doing the exercises not matter how harder they were.
I think that I achieved my goals because I have more flexibility, my core muscles are stronger and I
consider that my cardiovascular system is in good shape. I can affirm this because now I have a better
performance in any physical activity than before. For example, last weekend we went to do yoga with

Health Issues Of Ill Health
It is important that patterns of ill health are monitored as the Department of Health need to know
where to target the funds, and need to know what areas they need to target. For example, if the levels
of obesity are rising then the Department of Health needs to target this by putting in weight
maintenance courses and referring patients to clinics or recommending operations if they are beyond
helping themselves. Patterns of ill health help the Department of Health to see what areas are
increasing and the reasons for this. The research into why this happens helps them to know how to
tackle the problem.
Statistics
Statistics are used to monitor and recognise the patterns of ill health throughout the UK. Once
statistics are collected they are published on the National Statistics website. It is important to monitor
patterns of ill health and recognise where there is a dramatic increase or increase as then the health
and social funding can be spent in areas which need more help. For example, if there is a rising
problem with obesity, then funds can be spent to help those who are unable to control their weight,
more services will be able to be provided to those who are obese. Illnesses such as obesity are on the
rise but also illnesses associated with smoking, drinking and drugs are also, funding is targeted at
providing help for those who suffer from these illnesses.

Enlightenment And The French Revolution
Anarchy and poor leadership of the late 1700 s in France lead to the French Revolution. King Louis
XVI of France s reign lasted from 1774 to 1791, reflecting the ideas of monarchy and the divine right.
France s struggling economy forced the citizens to panic and increasingly urge to revolt against the
King. The citizens would not be influenced to revolt against their king without the Enlightenment. The
Enlightenment was a movement to protest against and question groups like the Catholic Church and
absolute monarchs because of their beliefs and control in society. Philosophes such as Montesquieu,
Voltaire, and Rousseau highlighted equality and the rights of man helping create the Declaration of the
Rights of Man and Citizen, ultimately leading to the ideas of change during the French Revolution.
The Enlightenment period had a vast impact on the movements of the French Revolution through
philosophes like Montesquieu, Voltaire, and Rousseau.
Charles de Montesquieu was a nobleman and a member of the parlement of Bordeaux. Montesquieu s
ideas during the Enlightenment left a great impact on the French Revolution. He protested against
absolute power and monarchy. He also believed that there should be different parts of a government.

The structure of economics is built on the law of demand. The law of demand simply says that when
the price of a good rises, the amount demanded falls, and when the price falls, the amount demanded
rises. An increase in demand means that the demand curve will shift to the right. A decrease in the
price of the product will not shift the demand curve, but will increase the quantity demanded
(Henderson, 2008).
The Coefficient of Determination Interpretation is the accuracy of the predictor of the independent
variable on the dependent variable value. The coefficient of determination is calculated as the square
of the correlation coefficient between the sample and predicted data. How well a regression model fits
the data is shown through the coefficient of determination. The value of the coefficient of
determination shows the percentage of variation that can be explained by the regression equation and
is used to show how accurately a regression model can predict future outcomes (Mahvish Zehra, n.d.).
The interpretation of each independent variable coefficient is as following. There is a decrease in the
demand for pizza. The coefficient of the cost of pizza is, 3,174.060 and the coefficient of the cost of
soda is, 2,266.736 this shows a negative impact on demand.

temperature and pressure and also have relatively high melting and boiling points. Sodium chloride
and magnesium chloride both have very strong ionic bonds between them and therefore a large
amount of energy is required to break the strong ionic bonds to cause them to melt or even boil. The
remaining chlorides will have relatively low melting and boiling points and most of them will be
liquid at room temperature. The chlorides will have low melting and boiling points due to the weak
van der Waals forces present. The melting point usually increases when you go from the element
sodium to silicon however then starts to decrease when it gets to argon. The boiling point will usually
increase when going from sodium to aluminium but will then decrease to argon. Sodium, Magnesium
and Aluminium are metals which have metallic bonding. In this

How To Hack A Doll
This article is alarming and frightening to read about. Something as seemingly innocuous as a doll was
capable of being manipulated and hacked to gather sensitive, personal information. I think the scariest
part is that we don t know who hacked the dolls and if they did, what their intentions were for using
their dolls, specifically, as a medium. If it wasn t for this article, I would have never imagined that a
hacker would hack a doll because it isn t commonly heard of. Usually, in the news, I hear about cell
phones, webcams, laptops, and those sort of technological devices being hacked. Although I was
surprised to read this, I feel as if I shouldn t be because the reality is that anything can be the object of
exploitation and manipulation as long as there is intent behind it. In fact, this actually reminds me of
an article that I read a while back about a baby monitor being hacked. In a similar fashion, the hacker
interacted with the child in a disturbing way.
When I read this article, my first initial thought was that the Cayla dolls were being used as a tool or
decoy so that the hackers could directly come in contact with the children. I assume the hackers that
actually interacted with the children had motives associated with them because I can t see ... Show

So, when the hacker talks to them through the doll, it causes them to associate the hacker with those
positive emotions, which essentially creates a sense of familiarity. Thus, when the child and hacker do
meet and make first direct contact, a relationship is already fostered. Also, since dolls serve as a friend
and companion, children usually share intimate thoughts, feelings, and etc. with them. This allows the
hacker to exploit and take advantage of the child s vulnerabilities either through blackmail or other
nefarious means. This was my theory behind it, but admittedly, that sounds quite far fetched looking

Identity And True Identity In The Movie Finding Forrester
Expository Essay
In everyone s there is your character and your identity. Some people choose to express their true
identity and true self, others hide their intentions and attitude to protect themselves. Their actions to
hide their personality could have been possibly decided by experiences or lifestyles. In the movie
Finding Forrester, the character Jamal Wallace is a 16 year old African American boy from the Bronx.
Where Jamal is from success in academics is not important and is not a necessity. In order to merge
into the norm Jamal purposing flunks his grades to not expose his talent of literacy. While playing
basketball Jamal is dared by his friends to break into an apartment that overlooks the courts. That
night he broke in he was caught by the owner of the apartment William Forrester, as he dashed out he
dropped his bag. The next day his bag was tossed at him as he crossed the street to the courts. Later
that day he noticed his writing was corrected and marked with errors. Since that point on Jamal and
William worked together to expand and exploit Jamal s gift. In the movie Finding Forrester, lifestyles
and experiences shape people s outside character, instead of exploiting their true selves. Different
characters find different mechanisms to hide their true selves to avoid reactions. In the movie Finding
Forrester the main character Jamal Wallace, a 16 year old African American kid from the Bronx is
challenged. During his time attending a public school in the Bronx,

Marcus Aurelius Analysis
Marcus Aurelius would have had mixed feelings about the collapse of the Roman Empire in the mid to
late third century AD. Marcus was undeniably aware of change and accepted it as a part of life that
was consistent, and that accepting change is basically equivalent to being one with nature. Marcus said
Words that everyone once used are now obsolete, and so are the men whose names were once on
everyone s lips: Camillus, Caeso, Volesus, Dentatus, and to a lesser degree Scipio and Cato, and yes,
even Augustus, Hadrian, and Antoninus are less spoken of now than they were in their own days. For
all things fade away, become the stuff of legend, and are soon buried in oblivion. The enormous
magnitude of emperors claiming the throne during the third century, and the speed at which they were
violently replaced, probably would have made him feel content with the ... Show more content on

There s no possible way that he would have been glaring into the past and yearning for times of other
prominent emperors because he understood that there was no control over the past or future.
Moreover, the present was the only moment that each individual owned and it was fleeting, and
Aurelian made exceptional use of it. The Emperor Aurelian made exceptional strides in reunifying the
Roman Empire from the rebel leaders Zenobia and Tetricus, and attempted to mend the broken
economy. Aurelian managed to reunify the Roman Empire and give the inhabitants a little sense of
security that they had been missing. Marcus was a firm believer in grasping the moment and living in
the present, as he said we live only in the present, in this fleet footed moment. Aurelian was the
second Emperor in a row who attempted to better the political situation in the Empire, and truly made
no excuse of the horrible hand he was dealt. Marcus would have been an admirer of Aurelian s
military and political successes. Over the course of the third century AD, the silver content of the
silver coin, the antoninianus,

Religion And Religion In Ron Howard s Angels And Demons
Emphasising the position of the Catholic Church as well as science and development, Ron Howard s
Angels Demons illustrates the universal components alongside the intrinsic struggle in a modern
society from a unique perspective. Centered around the Harvard symbologist, Professor Robert
Langdon, alongside C.E.R.N physicist, Vittoria Vetra, the plot reestablishes the legend of Illuminati
through showcasing the latter s struggle with the Catholic Church. While Langdon protects the church
from an outside threat of explosion and an inside threat of the Camerlengo, the audience is enchanted
by not only the plot twists but also the featured art and architecture. Representing the cults and
societies presented in the movie, the art plays a significant part in the overall plot alongside the
multiple themes illustrated in the story. Explicating effective instances of social changes and
functions, Ron Howard s 2009 film Angels Demons evidently presents a commentary on the struggles
between religion and science from a symbolic interaction perspective. Exhibiting an ancient conflict
under a contemporary light, the movie Angels Demons highlights the characteristics of modern society
in regards to its antique counterpart. Presenting countless instances of alterations in society in terms of
not only behavioural patterns but also cultural values, the movie elaborates on the social statics as well
as social dynamics. Defined by Auguste Comte, social statics is the study of social

The Elections of 1948 and 2004 Essay
The Elections of 1948 and 2004
The elections of 1948, and 2004 had many similarities. In both elections we had the two major
political parties, plus a third independent party. We had a war going on, polls trying to predict the
election, and two main candidates working on getting elected. The elections did have some differences
though. Money spent, mediums campaigned through, and the number of votes for the third party.
Despite the differences, there was one main similarity that stood out between the two elections, the
type of rhetoric used to sway votes from both sides.
In the election of 1948 Thomas Dewey rarely gave any plans, and even more rarely would he ever try
to tell us why he would make a better president than ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In his second attempt, he ran against incumbent President Truman. It may have been his second
attempt, but it was the first attempt by pollers to predict the outcome of a presidential election. The
polling agencies were quite sure Truman would be defeated. It could be that the polls were totally
wrong, or perhaps the polls effected the campaigns in an unexpected way. We do know that the
campaign of Dewey was effected by the polls. Since they showed him so far ahead, Dewey did little in
the way of campaigning. His running mate was so dissatisfied with the lack of campaigning he was
quoted as saying, Just once, I d like to call someone an S.O.B. ( 1948: The Great Truman Surprise )
Towards the end of the campaign though, the polls showed the gap closing, but everyone figured it
was too little too late. The Chicago Tribune even had printed its paper with a headline proclaiming
Dewey s victory.
The campaign although almost nonexistent, did still have a few of interesting propaganda pieces. The
first of which, the least persuasive one, was a simple pin on button with a giant H on the left side to
form the words Help Harry Hurry Home. There really are no persuasive words here at all. Instead, it is
more of a bandwagon/rally phrase, so it would loosely fit into the category of pathos. Next would
again be a pin. It read Don t be an vote for Dewey ( Collecting Thomas E.

Compare And Contrast The Aprenticeship Of Duddy Kravitz
The relationship between a parent and their child is a very important relationship in anyone s life. An
example of children being affected by their relationships with their parents is evident in the following
pieces of work. Death of a Salesman and The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz both share similarities
between the father and son relationships shown within the novels. The two books both share the idea
of having false ideals within the relationship between a father and son, the father does not treat women
with any respect, therefore the son follows in his footsteps, and the relationships simply lack a bond
between father and son. Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller and The Apprenticeship of Duddy
Kravitz by Mordecai Richler, show significant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There s no spite in it any more. I m just what I am, that s all. (Act 2) In The Apprenticeship of Duddy
Kravitz, Max is a pimp and he focuses his attention more on Lennie than Duddy. This is evident when
Duddy went off to work in the Laurentian Mountains and Max never took the time to reach out and
write to him whereas Max was able to write to Lennie every week, who was working as a camp
counsellor. The relationship between Duddy and his father is distant and his father never tells Duddy
that he is proud of him. This is small, but it removes any sort of positive reinforcement for Duddy.
Duddy would not feel accomplished whenever he would do something great and just be constantly
brought down because he feels like he does not make his father proud. The father son relationships
between Willy and Biff, and Max and Duddy both have a lack of a bond between the individuals
which evidently affects the son in a negative

Leave It To Beaver And Malcolm In The Middle
Reality TV are programs in which real people are continuously filmed, designed to be entertaining
rather than informative. ( reality TV: definition of reality TV in Oxford dictionary (American English)
(US), n.d.) That s the book definition and rightfully so, but I d say in the context of reality I d use that
term in the contrast between Leave it to Beaver and Malcolm in the Middle. We have two family
sitcoms that are related with both centering on a child while they deal with problems that arise. The
reality is in the way they were portrayed. One is on the side of an idealistic portrayal of family life and
the other in portraying of a somewhat normal dysfunctional family lifestyle. In Leave it to Beaver the
show starts with introductions

Open Carry In Criminal Justice Cases
According to Tribune Review analysis of Department of National Justice Caseload Data, 29.2 percent
of criminal violation citations had weak or insufficient admissible evidence; 25 percent had lack of
evidence of criminal intent; 9.2 percent had no federal offense evident; and 5 percent had insufficient
evidence. Statistics and data typically aren t very intimidating, however these are. These statistics
indicate that law enforcement officers and public officials are taking advantage of people who know
nothing of their own civil rights and liberties. Knowing your rights is vital to avoiding infringement,
and possible false incarceration. Violation of these rights isn t something new, it s been occurring for
many years, and many of your rights today were founded on some of the cases that have dealt with it.
One example, is Miranda vs Arizona, the supreme court ruled detained criminal suspects, prior to
police questioning, must be informed of their constitutional right to an attorney and against self
incrimination (Miranda v Arizona, Alex Mcbride).
It is immensely essential that you are aware of your Constitutional and legal rights. These ... Show

With that right comes open carry, and the legality of it. According to the former President of the NRA,
open carry is legal in 45 U.S. states (Joshua Gillen). Open carry should be permitted in every state, it
is part of the Constitution. Innocent citizens are being stopped by the Police for simply exercising their
right to open carry. Often times citizens are stopped at gunpoint and treated as if they were a criminal.
If we do not continue to exercise this right, harassment will only persist. There are multiple videos on
YouTube showing the Police harassing open carry activists and even disarming them. If you plan to
open carry to exercise your right, know that it is your right, and the police have no right to stop you
for exercising

Progressivism Dbq Essay
In the early 20th century, a fervent desire to allow the United States to escape from the corrupt and
unfair politics of the Gilded Age and to improve life for the employees in utter ignorance of
cleanliness or danger to [their] health (Document B) emerged. This great desire to reform society
became known as Progressivism. Under the leadership of three progressive presidents, Theodore
Roosevelt, William Howard Taft, and Woodrow Wilson, the Progressive Era reformers and the federal
government brought low and moderate national reform, though these measures often fell short of
Progressive ideals.
Roosevelt took the first steps towards reforming American society with his square deal, although his
willingness to work with corporations and trusts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, Progressive reform societies such as the National Women Suffrage Association convinced
Wilson to pass the 19th amendment allowing women to vote. (Although he did this grudgingly, as
Document H suggests.) Wilson believed that the fundamental wrongs of a modern society [could] be
easily and quickly righted as a consequence of a few laws, as Herbert Croly puts it in Document F.
However, Wilson s vision would be proven wrong. In 1918, the Supreme Court ruled that the child
labor laws Wilson had passed were unconstitutional in the case of Hammer v. Dagenhart, as laws
regulating child labor were purely a state authority, thus the laws were repugnant to the Constitution .
(Document G). Despite the antitrust acts, strikes and labor violence continued to be a problem. The
Ludlow Massacre, a confrontation between western miners and state militia and the Boston Police
Strike of 1919 exemplify that tensions still existed between workers and employers. Finally, the
reforms during the Progressive movement did very little to advance the status of African Americans.
The Chicago Race Riots of 1919 showed that racial tensions and discrimination were still present in
the United States. Despite the fact that African Americans had fought gladly and to the last drop of
blood; for America and her highest ideals during World War I, they had to return to the shameful land
of the United States

  • 2. Chinook Salmon Essay The lifecycle of the New Zealand chinook salmon is conventional to that of salmon in the North Pacific. chinook salmon (Otherwise known as quinnat or king salmon) mature in the ocean, they typically will reach sexual maturity at 3 years old, but this can vary anything between 2 7 years. (Females take longer than males.) Upon reaching sexual maturity, they will migrate upstream to spawn. Spawning usually occurs in autumn, immediately after all adults die, as the energy expenditure of the process is too significant to recover. The eggs will hatch in early spring, and the chinook will spend several months in the fresh water (some populations spend up to a year) before they migrate downstream into the ocean, only to repeat the process over. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Euryhaline fish species are able to adapt to a wide range of salinities. This is absolutely crucial for the chinook salmon to survive in the various conditions it is challenged by. Typically, an ocean has a salinity of 35 ppt (parts per thousand), whereas freshwater has a salinity of less than 0.5 ppt. The chinook is challenged with keeping the concentration and composition of their body fluids within homeostatic limits while migrating through these continual changes in water salinity. Homeostasis refers to the relatively constant physiological state of the body despite fluctuations in the external environment. To be more specific the chinook salmon must regulate water potential in order to sustain fluid and electrolyte balance within its body relative to its surroundings. This is achieved through a process called osmoregulation. Osmoregulation is crucial for the chinook to maintain optimal osmotic pressure within the body, this is the way by which it can withhold a suitable concentration of solutes and amount of water in its body fluids. Osmosis is the net movement of water or solvent molecules across a semi permeable membrane from a region of low solute concentration to high concentration. The chinook salmon proves to be an excellent example of an organism that displays the application of osmoregulation in order to survive and complete the lifecycle required of it to spawn and pass on its ... So when his mother was nearby Toby would lie and confirm all his lying implications that we (Toby and Dwight) were pals and our life together was a good one (99, Wolff). • 4. The Pros And Cons Of The Crusades The Crusades were a series of wars inspired by conflicting religious ideologies, specifically between Christians and Muslims. A series being, that between the years 1096 and 1291, nine major military expeditions occurred. Christian Muslim interactions between the 1000 1500 centuries were mostly negative then positive. The justification for war included securing and gaining control of the holy lands or territories sacred to both groups (Damascus, The River Jordan, Jerusalem, and numerous others) and to diffuse or universalize their religious ideologies to those living in the eastern hemisphere. Jerusalem was considered the holiest of all sites, because it was significantly important to both religions, in different ways. To Christians, Jerusalem represents; the place of birth, ministry, crucifixion, and resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth, the Savior or Messiah to Christianity. However, to Muslims, Jerusalem houses the Al Aqsa Mosque (the third holiest site in Islam), in which they believe Muhammad was transported to during the Night Journey (a physical and spiritual journey) from the Sacred Mosque in Mecca. Islamic hero or leader of the Crusades, Saladin, is credited with re conquesting Jerusalem from the Christians, uniting Muslim fractions and states, while enabling and promoting Islamic faith and practices to exist in Jerusalem. Hillary Clinton emphasizes that although women have been given more freedom and rights as the years went by, it still isn t enough. In her speech, Clinton goes on to say that if women are free from violence, their families will flourish. If women have a chance to work and earn as full and equal partners in society, their families will flourish. And when families flourish, their communities and nations do as well . Hillary Clinton used appeals to emotions, logic, and ethics to convey to the audience that women s rights should be normalized and embraced around the world. Hillary Rodham Clinton has many titles under her belt such as politician , first lady , senator etc. but no title gives her a bigger sense of pride than being a woman . She believes to be a woman is to be strength, power, and grace which she exudes with every step she takes. Growing up, Clinton always dreamed of being a significant figure in the progression of women s rights. Some of the prominent steps that Clinton took to pave the way for women and children include: becoming an advocate for kids and families at the Children s Defense Fund, fighting for the Family and Medical Leave Act, working to increase funding for childcare, and helping to start the National Campaign to End Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy. • 7. Patrice Lumumba’s Struggle Against Belgian Imperialism Essay Patrice Lumumba s Struggle Against Belgian Imperialism It is hard to believe that in 2002 there is still imperialism being practiced in the world, but the fact of the matter is, it is. Imperialism is the policy of extending a nation s territory or power by establishing dominance over other nations. A modern example of imperialism is the Congo. At the 1885 Berlin Conference, where the European powers carved up most of Africa among themselves, they sanctioned the claim of Belgian King Leopold II to sole authority over the Congo, a land mass 75 times the area of Belgium. The Congo was virtually his private property. He wiped out some 10 million people, around half the population, in his determination to extract every ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, Lumumba s intentions became clear from his Independence Day speech. He said, We have known sarcasm and insults, endured blows morning, noon and night because we were niggers ... We have seen our lands despoiled under the terms of what was supposedly the law of the lad but which only recognised the right of the strongest. We have seen that this law was quite different for a white than for a black: accommodating for the former, cruel and inhuman for the latter. It is evident from this excerpt that Lumumba s Congo would not be one where the Belgians could remain in complete control. The imperialist powers, led by Washington together with Brussels, undertook a series of operations designed to undermine the new Lumumba led government. Less than two weeks after Congo s independence, the former Belgian rulers succeeded in organizing a secessionist movement in the province of Katanga, where U.S. and European companies had vast mineral holdings. On July 11, 1960, Moise Tshombe, a wealthy businessman and leader of the UCOL party who bitterly opposed Lumumba, declared Katanga s separation from the Congo. UCOL originally stood for the Union for Colonization but then was later changed to the Union for the Collaboration of the Middle Classes in Katanga due to the feverish anti colonial spirit in the Congo. A successful find is not just when you find an object in the dirt or ground, it is when you find an object and find new information about the past. The only way to know about the past is to talk to someone who would know what that object is. This can be a historian, fellow colleague, and especially a descendant of who the object belongs to. An example in which I am referring to when I say a descendant of who the object belongs to, is like when Janet D. Spector talks to Carrie Schommer and Chris Cavendar about the Dakota people. These two individuals are descendants of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The last group would be the jury members and I would be the judge. Once I assigned them to a specific group they would have a short time to discuss with one another the argument that they would make. They would be arguing against one another that they should have the objects that were found. First each group would give their opening argument. After each group finished that then they would have an open floor in which they would be able to debate each other. Once they were finished debating and each group made their closing remarks then the jury would go and deliberate to determine who gets the objects. When the jury returns I would read aloud the decision. The group who made the best argument will win a prize. Their prize will be all of the artifacts that were found from the first assignment. This second assignment ties back in with the first theme as well because it requires the students to work with one another in order to be successful and win the debate. Instead of allowing the BLM to have the ultimate say, it gives more power to corporations. Similarly to signing the Stream Protection disapproval, Trumps motive in his signing was to deregulate America in hopes of more jobs. Therefore, because the ergonomic regulation fell into the 60 day window, through the CRA, Congress and Bush could override the regulation. After Bush signed the disapproval into law, he states, This resolution is a good and proper use of the [Congressional Review] Act because the different branches of our Government need to be held accountable. • 19. Enzyme And The Enzyme Of Enzyme Essay Introduction: An enzyme is a macromolecule that works as a catalyst and speeds up chemical reactions through a substrate that binds to the active site of the enzyme. When this process occurs, the enzyme lowers the activation energy needed. This allows the reactant molecules to reach a state where they can complete a reaction in most temperatures. The enzyme is not consumed when a chemical reaction is taking place, however, it s shape changes in order to create a proper space for a substrate to bind to. Since the enzyme is not consumed in the process of reactions, it can begin to lower the activating energy of another process as soon as the first process is complete and it has returned to its original shape. Without the assistance of enzymes, the pathways of metabolism in humans would be obstructed because every process would take so long (Smith et., 2015). For every reaction completed, a different, specific enzyme is utilized. Therefore, each location of each enzyme in the cell is very specific. The speed of the enzyme that is being utilized is dependent on factors that are found in the environment, for example, pH, temperature and the specific chemical reaction that will be occurring. The rate that a catalyst can be most beneficial with regard to temperature is directly proportional to the increase in temperature until the optimal temperature is reached. However, after the optimal temperature is reached, if the temperature continues to be increased, the rate of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Those who lived alongside Jesus, or wrote about Him in contemporary times were not concerned so much with what was but with what ought to have been. They wrote biographies with some sort of pre conceived posture of who Jesus was, and molded the story to present that character. This was not seen as dishonest in ancient times; in fact, it was considered the truest of histories. But in the age of the Enlightenment, scholars began concerning themselves with the historical validity of the subjects they studied. This began the first wave of historical Jesus scholarship. At this time, various scholars became intent on discovering the historical Jesus, and began writing various works, presented as the life of Jesus. But these writings suffered from an integral flaw, which has infected historical Jesus scholarship until today. Rather than being works of discovery, they were truly projects. Powell argues well, in his first chapter on the history of the historical Jesus movement, that a life of Jesus would typically impose some grand scheme or hypothesis upon the material that allowed everything to be interpreted in accord with a consistent paradigm... Analysis of Politics in The Republic of Turkey The book follows the author s preceding work on the two Ankara parliaments during the War of Independence and studies the parliaments of the Republic of Turkey from 1923 to 1946, roughly the time known as the single party period when the political power was monopolized by the Republican People s Party (CHP Cumhuriyet Halk Fırkası/Partisi). In his former research Demirel had given a large place to political disputes in the Turkish parliament by highlighting the actions of the fraction opposed to the group under the guidance of Mustafa Kemal (Atatürk). The scope of his research has changed, since the parliaments he deals with were composed nearly exclusively by deputies of the single party, giving way to what Mete Tunçay has called an unanimous democracy (24). Nevertheless, the book is part of a historiographical current that challenges the discourse the kemalist regime has had on its proper history and insists on political contradictions in the formative processes of the early Republic. In his analysis, the author draws mostly upon the official parliamentary publication, with some references to the press and to memoirs by leading politicians. He meticulously scrutinizes the composition of the six parliaments from 1923 to 1946 and presents valuable empirical data on the deputies, like age, geographical origin, education, profession, or seniority in parliament. This presents itself in sports especially because of how big of a discrepancy there is between the number of Asians and the amount of Whites and Blacks in professional sports in the United States. I can agree with the point that stereotypes are decreasing the opportunities for Asians in sports. Whether you want to deny it or not, Asians are not viewed as the primary choice for any athletic event in the United States, and that is shown especially in the NBA where there is only one Asian player on a roster, Jeremy Lin. To start off, Twin studies are a significant tool to investigate the nature versus nurture argument. Identical twins, or monozygotic twins, are siblings that have the exact same genotypes whereas fraternal twins are dizygotic twins that only share half of their genes together. Fraternal twins are similar to siblings, except they have of the exact age. As Plomin, DeFries, McClearn, and Rutter (1997) stated that if one twin has dark hair, then the other twin has dark hair as well; where the concept of identical genes would ideally distribute itself towards the phenotypes of behavior and personality of identical twins . People develop vast differences through the stimuli they face in their daily life. Despite being reared in the same environment (their home), both twins could have had different sets of friends. Thus, going through their school years having different experiences and facing different challenges. As a whole they will have completely different hobbies and interests. Hence, we think that twins will display the same trait even though they were brought up in different environments because traits have more to do with genetics rather than environment. Socialist Realism was an essential method to create this, although it was not the most important method of social control. Socialist Realism was the second most important method of social control as it was very effective, but not as effective as the Terror. Social Realism allowed Stalin to be portrayed in a positive light but it was also an attempt to use art forms to sell government economic and social policy to the Russian people. Smaller community banks and insurance providers have the benefit of getting to know their clients personally, may be better able to serve their specific concerns and clients tend to be more comfortable doing business with someone from their own community with whom they deal with consistently. • 43. Marcus Aurelius Analysis Marcus Aurelius would have had mixed feelings about the collapse of the Roman Empire in the mid to late third century AD. Marcus was undeniably aware of change and accepted it as a part of life that was consistent, and that accepting change is basically equivalent to being one with nature. Marcus said Words that everyone once used are now obsolete, and so are the men whose names were once on everyone s lips: Camillus, Caeso, Volesus, Dentatus, and to a lesser degree Scipio and Cato, and yes, even Augustus, Hadrian, and Antoninus are less spoken of now than they were in their own days. For all things fade away, become the stuff of legend, and are soon buried in oblivion. The enormous magnitude of emperors claiming the throne during the third century, and the speed at which they were violently replaced, probably would have made him feel content with the ... There s no possible way that he would have been glaring into the past and yearning for times of other prominent emperors because he understood that there was no control over the past or future. Moreover, the present was the only moment that each individual owned and it was fleeting, and Aurelian made exceptional use of it. The Emperor Aurelian made exceptional strides in reunifying the Roman Empire from the rebel leaders Zenobia and Tetricus, and attempted to mend the broken economy. Aurelian managed to reunify the Roman Empire and give the inhabitants a little sense of security that they had been missing. Marcus was a firm believer in grasping the moment and living in the present, as he said we live only in the present, in this fleet footed moment. Aurelian was the second Emperor in a row who attempted to better the political situation in the Empire, and truly made no excuse of the horrible hand he was dealt. Marcus would have been an admirer of Aurelian s military and political successes. Over the course of the third century AD, the silver content of the silver coin, the antoninianus, ... Religion And Religion In Ron Howard s Angels And Demons Emphasising the position of the Catholic Church as well as science and development, Ron Howard s Angels Demons illustrates the universal components alongside the intrinsic struggle in a modern society from a unique perspective. Centered around the Harvard symbologist, Professor Robert Langdon, alongside C.E.R.N physicist, Vittoria Vetra, the plot reestablishes the legend of Illuminati through showcasing the latter s struggle with the Catholic Church. While Langdon protects the church from an outside threat of explosion and an inside threat of the Camerlengo, the audience is enchanted by not only the plot twists but also the featured art and architecture. Representing the cults and societies presented in the movie, the art plays a significant part in the overall plot alongside the multiple themes illustrated in the story. Explicating effective instances of social changes and functions, Ron Howard s 2009 film Angels Demons evidently presents a commentary on the struggles between religion and science from a symbolic interaction perspective. • 45. The Elections of 1948 and 2004 Essay The Elections of 1948 and 2004 The elections of 1948, and 2004 had many similarities. In both elections we had the two major political parties, plus a third independent party. We had a war going on, polls trying to predict the election, and two main candidates working on getting elected. The elections did have some differences though. Money spent, mediums campaigned through, and the number of votes for the third party. Despite the differences, there was one main similarity that stood out between the two elections, the type of rhetoric used to sway votes from both sides. In the election of 1948 Thomas Dewey rarely gave any plans, and even more rarely would he ever try to tell us why he would make a better president than ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In his second attempt, he ran against incumbent President Truman. It may have been his second attempt, but it was the first attempt by pollers to predict the outcome of a presidential election. The polling agencies were quite sure Truman would be defeated. It could be that the polls were totally wrong, or perhaps the polls effected the campaigns in an unexpected way. We do know that the campaign of Dewey was effected by the polls. Since they showed him so far ahead, Dewey did little in the way of campaigning. His running mate was so dissatisfied with the lack of campaigning he was quoted as saying, Just once, I d like to call someone an S.O.B. ( 1948: The Great Truman Surprise ) Towards the end of the campaign though, the polls showed the gap closing, but everyone figured it was too little too late. The Chicago Tribune even had printed its paper with a headline proclaiming Dewey s victory. The campaign although almost nonexistent, did still have a few of interesting propaganda pieces. The first of which, the least persuasive one, was a simple pin on button with a giant H on the left side to form the words Help Harry Hurry Home. There really are no persuasive words here at all. Instead, it is more of a bandwagon/rally phrase, so it would loosely fit into the category of pathos. Next would again be a pin. It read Don t be an vote for Dewey ( Collecting Thomas E. ... • 46. Compare And Contrast The Aprenticeship Of Duddy Kravitz The relationship between a parent and their child is a very important relationship in anyone s life. An example of children being affected by their relationships with their parents is evident in the following pieces of work. Death of a Salesman and The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz both share similarities between the father and son relationships shown within the novels. The two books both share the idea of having false ideals within the relationship between a father and son, the father does not treat women with any respect, therefore the son follows in his footsteps, and the relationships simply lack a bond between father and son. I m just what I am, that s all. (Act 2) In The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz, Max is a pimp and he focuses his attention more on Lennie than Duddy. This is evident when Duddy went off to work in the Laurentian Mountains and Max never took the time to reach out and write to him whereas Max was able to write to Lennie every week, who was working as a camp counsellor. The relationship between Duddy and his father is distant and his father never tells Duddy that he is proud of him. This is small, but it removes any sort of positive reinforcement for Duddy. Duddy would not feel accomplished whenever he would do something great and just be constantly brought down because he feels like he does not make his father proud. The father son relationships between Willy and Biff, and Max and Duddy both have a lack of a bond between the individuals which evidently affects the son in a negative ... ( reality TV: definition of reality TV in Oxford dictionary (American English) (US), n.d.) That s the book definition and rightfully so, but I d say in the context of reality I d use that term in the contrast between Leave it to Beaver and Malcolm in the Middle. We have two family sitcoms that are related with both centering on a child while they deal with problems that arise. The reality is in the way they were portrayed. One is on the side of an idealistic portrayal of family life and the other in portraying of a somewhat normal dysfunctional family lifestyle. • 48. Open Carry In Criminal Justice Cases According to Tribune Review analysis of Department of National Justice Caseload Data, 29.2 percent of criminal violation citations had weak or insufficient admissible evidence; 25 percent had lack of evidence of criminal intent; 9.2 percent had no federal offense evident; and 5 percent had insufficient evidence. Statistics and data typically aren t very intimidating, however these are. These statistics indicate that law enforcement officers and public officials are taking advantage of people who know nothing of their own civil rights and liberties. Knowing your rights is vital to avoiding infringement, and possible false incarceration. Violation of these rights isn t something new, it s been occurring for many years, and many of your rights today were founded on some of the cases that have dealt with it. One example, is Miranda vs Arizona, the supreme court ruled detained criminal suspects, prior to police questioning, must be informed of their constitutional right to an attorney and against self incrimination (Miranda v Arizona, Alex Mcbride). Progressivism Dbq Essay In the early 20th century, a fervent desire to allow the United States to escape from the corrupt and unfair politics of the Gilded Age and to improve life for the employees in utter ignorance of cleanliness or danger to [their] health (Document B) emerged. This great desire to reform society became known as Progressivism. Under the leadership of three progressive presidents, Theodore Roosevelt, William Howard Taft, and Woodrow Wilson, the Progressive Era reformers and the federal government brought low and moderate national reform, though these measures often fell short of Progressive ideals. In addition, Progressive reform societies such as the National Women Suffrage Association convinced Wilson to pass the 19th amendment allowing women to vote. (Although he did this grudgingly, as Document H suggests.) Wilson believed that the fundamental wrongs of a modern society [could] be easily and quickly righted as a consequence of a few laws, as Herbert Croly puts it in Document F. However, Wilson s vision would be proven wrong. In 1918, the Supreme Court ruled that the child labor laws Wilson had passed were unconstitutional in the case of Hammer v. Dagenhart, as laws regulating child labor were purely a state authority, thus the laws were repugnant to the Constitution . (Document G). Despite the antitrust acts, strikes and labor violence continued to be a problem. The Ludlow Massacre, a confrontation between western miners and state militia and the Boston Police Strike of 1919 exemplify that tensions still existed between workers and employers. Finally, the reforms during the Progressive movement did very little to advance the status of African Americans. The Chicago Race Riots of 1919 showed that racial tensions and discrimination were still present in the United States. Despite the fact that African Americans had fought gladly and to the last drop of blood; for America and her highest ideals during World War I, they had to return to the shameful land of the United States ...
