Chiquita Csr Case Study
Analysis: Litigation Chiquita This case study deals primarily with the issue of litigation. The case
study focuses especially on litigation concerned with U.S. companies being held accountable in U.S.
courts for their actions and influences in foreign countries. The main company highlighted within the
case study is Chiquita, the largest employer of banana workers in Latin America.
This analysis will dive deeper into the actual issue of litigation and will focus on the Alien Tort Statute
(also called the Alien Tort Claims Act [ATCA]), which was a part of the Judiciary Act of 1789. The
issue of accountability and the analysis of multiple cases including Chiquita will be discussed in
relevancy to litigation and the ATCA. Finally, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the corporate entity wrongs the constitutional rights of others, shouldn t the state that chartered the
corporation be held accountable in some way?
Moving forward, who then should hold the state governments accountable for their corporate entities
misbehaving overseas if the state governments do nothing to remedy the situation? Since the US
Congress has the Constitutional authority to regulate commerce... among the several States as well as
with foreign Nations, (Article 1, Section 8 of the US Constitution) should it not also have authority
over states involved (via their corporate entities) in foreign commerce with citizens and businesses of
other nations? Werther and Chandler raise the question of whether or not U.S. courts should be
expanding their jurisdiction, or should these cases be a matter of U.S. foreign and trade policy?
Regardless of one s opinion, since the State governments bring the corporations into existence, they
should be responsible for the actions taken by their corporations.
Chiquita:
Another strong example and reinforcement of the ATCA was the lawsuit where 3,000 foreign banana
workers were allowed to be heard in U.S. Courts in 2002. These banana workers represented a fraction
of those that have been exposed to the pesticide dibromochloropropane (DBCP), also known as
Nemagon and Fumazone. Developed by Shell and Occidental Chemical, DBCP

Politics And The Economy Are Usually The Main Reasons Behind
Politics and the economy are usually the main reasons behind our thoughts about environmental issues
and destruction, likewise, we tend to think that implementing laws and rules are the only way to fix
those issues. However, as Joseph Wood Krutch, an American writer and an environmentalist who was
awarded the National Book Award for his nature books on the American Southwest, mentioned is his
book: If people destroy something replaceable made by mankind, they are called vandals; if they
destroy something irreplaceable made by God, they are called developers. (Krutch). Even though it is
rare that we think about religion when we talk about environmental sustainability and ways to achieve
it, religion has a key role. As the the world ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Rhetorical Devices In American Pie
Isiah Jones
Professor Harley
LA 201

Essay 3
The song American Pie , by Don McLean, was a dominate rock and roll hit in 1971. McLean
illustrates famous rock star artist and songwriter Buddy Holly, who died in a plane crash in 1962 by
using rhetorical strategies. The different potential interpretations of this song made it one of the most
controversial songs from the 1970 s. McLean was hitting home with many emotional resonances
defining moments in the recent American experiences. American Pie starts out addressing McLean
love for music in the 50 s. During the 50 s, music was a tool for getting people off their feet and on to
the dance floors. And I knew if I had my chance, that I could make those people dance, and maybe
they d be happy for a while (McLean). This verse symbolizes why he loves to create and perform for
his fans. McLean then goes on to mention his mentor Buddy Holly. But February made me shiver.
With every paper, I d deliver. Shocking news on the doorstep, I couldn t take one more step. I can t
remember if I cried. When I read about his widowed bride. But something touched me deep inside.
The day the music died (McLean). Buddy Holly died on February 3, 1959, in a plane crash. There are
two theories on why the song was called American Pie. It was rumored, American Pie was the name of
the plane that took Buddy Holly life. Also, someone refers it to a symbol of the beauty queen Miss
America (Morgan). Mclean remembered the paper boy delivering the morning paper and there on the
front page, was the story of the death of Buddy Holly. At the time Holly s wife was pregnant and soon
had a miscarriage afterward. McLean, he says he can t remember if he cried in the moment or not. All
this was in the first few verses in American Pie. McLean incorporated these lines of imagery to help
the listener picture his past emotional experiences. I believe McLean wanted to paint a picture for his
audience could relate to. During these times it was tough for McLean. Not only did Buddy Holly die
but also rock star legends Richie Valens, and the Big Bopper. For McLean music died for him and the
rest of the world.
American Pie not only pays tribute to three talented musicians but also

Homeless in America
Homeless in America
When we are little we never see ourselves being homeless, we only have dreams of having a good life
that has family, love, lots of money, nice cars, and big houses; we never think maybe we might end up
homeless with nothing but the clothes on your back. Being American and in the land of opportunity
we see and hear of endless possibilities, but everyone does not get to enjoy the possibilities because
the possibilities are not really endless. Homelessness in America is a persistent, complex, and widely
occurring problem that incorporates many economic, social, and psychological dimensions. After
years of war and economic decline, the ranks of the homelessness have grown to include ... Show

Some homeless steal food to feed themselves or their families it s like you can go so many days
without food or to let your family go without food before you have that thought of just stealing to
provide. Some homeless panhandle and beg for money which is starting to be against the law due to
panhandlers starting to be violent, they use to be happy with what you gave them or really mad that
you did not give anything. Also there are laws that are considered to be criminalizing to the homeless
by restricting the sitting and sleeping areas allowed, prohibits begging, and permits them from
sleeping under bridges.
Policies with dealing with the homeless is that even though they are of a lower class then most being
treated with respect and them still having rights even though they do not pay taxes as human beings.
Policies of no soliciting signs are in front of stores to keep the homeless from scaring off customers.
More policies are still being processed about what is right and wrong about being homeless after
places to sleep and sit and other things.
Being homeless in America there programs that are out to help the best they can to get them off the
street and to make sure they have a place to sleep at night. In communities some churches try to help

Attenuation Types Of Photon Energy
The CBCT is relatively recent technology, with the first commercial scanner being introduced in 1998
for dental imaging (87) This is a type of CT that uses a cone X ray beam instead of the conventional
fan beam (88). For standard full field of view for CBCT, polychromatic X rays are generated from a
source tube excited by 100 120 kV tube potential with 1.5 10 mA current (89). The emitted X ray
photon energy is absorbed by materials located be¬tween the X ray source and detector. The
remaining energy after absorption is recorded on a detector as expressed by intensity (I) that
represents energy per area and time. For example, the flat panel detector consists of a pixel array of
hydrogenated amorphous silicon thin film transistors (88). A ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

1. Larger detectors have a greater chance of encountering the scattered X ray pho¬tons leading to
streak artefacts during reconstruction pro¬cess for the CBCT image (90). Beam hardening occur as the
energy levels of polychromatic X ray beams used in the CBCT are not identical, the lower energy
photons can be easily absorbed at the edges of the scanned subject resulting in hardening of the X ray
beam, which produces lower gray values toward the center of the subject (cup¬ping artifact) even if
the density of the subject is homoge¬nous (91) Defects or un calibrated components in the detector
may cause ring artefacts with concentric rings in the CBCT im¬age. Scanning dense metallic materials
can cause severe streaking artifacts when their gray values exceed the maxi mum level of operation
that the software can handle (91). Shading or streaking artefacts may be observed when the gray
values are incorrectly registered due to patient motion during CBCT scanning (90,91) This artefact
com¬monly appears as double contours in the CBCT image. To date, CBCT based BMD measurement
has been used mainly to estimate bone properties for dental implanta¬tion (92). The BMD measured
from CBCT images showed a better predicting power to estimate cortical bone frac¬ture than assessed
by the conventional DXA images (93). More applications are performed for the diagnosis of oral bone
disease, improvement of orthodontic treatment,

Randall Jarrell Essay
The Fabulous Life and Works of Randall Jarrell The experience collected throughout a lifetime shape
a person s identity, with each choice made, bringing one closer to self realization, and the lessons of
the past always affecting the decisions of the future. This phenomenon can be clearly observed when
looking back on the life and works of Randall Jarrell, a literary genius during the World War Two era.
Throughout his life Jarrell collected experiences which shaped not only his works, but also forged
who he became as a person. Events which occurred all the way from Jarrell s early childhood up to his
late adulthood, and everything in between, were important to his development as a writer. His passion
for poetry, his time spent criticizing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Amidst the onslaught of industrialism, propaganda, and the horrific realization of a world at war, arose
the most celebrated work of Randall Jarrell. His most famous poem: The Death of the Ball Turret
Gunner, came from his own background with the air force. Although he was unable to meet the
requirements for becoming a pilot Jarrell ...trained Air Force pilots and worked with them in the
celestial navigation tower, (McCann 2) an experience which made him an authority figure among
many wartime poets. Many of Jarrell s best works came from his time in the Air Force training pilots
and operating the navigation tower. Having that kind of first hand experience with current events
allowed Jarrell to reach an audience that became captivated by his poetry, which struck the heart of
certain issues. Without these back influencing what he chose to write about and how he wrote it,
Jarrell most certainly would not have been remembered as he currently is. More importantly, without
the experiences that he had in his life Randall Jarrell would not have been able to become the person
or the writer that he

Regional Complementarity Essay
Regional Complementarity in America The United States is a nation that was built on the foundation
and reliance of other nations but in time was able to become optionally self sustainable. Though
America received its independence in 1776, we still rely on not only other nations to keep us going but
also on various regions within the country as well. The geographical term, regional complementarity,
is often associated with the United States as it heavily relies on others while others heavily rely on
them as well. This system of regional complementarity can be shown in recent news with the horrors
of Hurricane Harvey which deeply affected Houston and its oil industry and President Trump s
opinion and plans for the trade association with North ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
New York Times energy business correspondent, Clifford Krauss, reported a quote from Tom Kloza,
who is the global head of energy analysis for Oil Price Information Service, in Storm s impact on Oil
Industry is Felt at Gasoline Pumps, he says, Satan could not have drawn up a more horrible
geographic scenario for knocking out Texas refining. The storm effectively took out more than half of
its refineries which caused the cost of gasoline to raise dramatically. Krauss includes the example, The
price for regular gas in Florida rose to an average of $2.41 on Thursday from $2.35 in one day. This
primarily affected low income families as well as the rest of Americans all across the nation. Krauss
reported a week later in Texas Energy Industry Recovering From Hurricane s Disruption, he said, The
national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline was $2.67 on Friday morning, unchanged from
the day before, though it had risen 15 cents in the last week alone, according to the AAA motor club.
This just demonstrates the continued affects of Hurricane Harvey on Houston and the rest of the
nation. The rest of the United States relies on the oil refineries in the Texas region as Texas relies on
the rest of the United States for its sustainability. The Texas region provides a surplus of refined
petroleum required for the rest of the

I am the oldest of four girls in a family of six and I will also be the first one in my family to go to

reasons I strive to my best to be the best. She does odd jobs like cutting fish, drying fish, and driving
people s children to school. She recently got her citizenship, but she still doesn t really know a lot of
English. My mother does her best to help my sisters and I have the best childhood we can get. We do
silly things like go shopping for dresses on a slow Sunday or help carting around old drawers in an old
truck. She does not make a lot of money because honestly the side jobs only help support minor things
my family does or needs. I m worried about her because when I go to college because if my father
does get injured, she can only help with small things like books or the meal plan. Overall, I hope that
with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Scholarship, the financial unease that my parents have

not less money than me to go to college. It is not a matter if I will be able to go to college; it is a

college years. I believe that I need the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Scholarship to attend

The Human Rights Act
What are we to make then of the promise of the Human Rights Act that it would provide for better
protection of civil liberties? KD Ewing The Futility of the Human Rights Act (2004) Public Law
Background to the Human Rights Act (HRA)
The Human Rights Act 1998 (HRA) was granted royal assent on the 9th November 1998, however, it
was not fully implemented until the 2nd of October 2000. Previous to the implementation of the HRA
, anyone who wanted to challenge the decision of the UK Government for non compliance with the
European Convention of Human Rights had to take their case to the European Court of Human Rights
(ECtHR), which is situated in Strasbourg, France. An individual could only go to ECtHR once they
had established that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example of this prior to the HRA , can be seen in the telephone tapping case of Malone v UK taken
to the ECtHR, which led to the enactment of the Interception of Communications Act with provision
now contained in the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act . The labour government bill stated, the
time has come to enable people to enforce their Convention rights against the state in the British
courts ... In other words to bring the rights home.
The Labour Party emphasised that their aim was for the incorporation of the HRA to be boarder and
deeper than just saving time and money . Within the second reading of the Bill the Lord Chancellor
said that the incorporation of the Convention rights through the proposed HRA will:
Deliver a modern reconciliation, of the inevitable tension between the democratic right of the majority
to exercise political power and the democratic need of individuals and minorities to have their human
rights secured.
When drafting the HRA it was decided that some articles of the ECHR would not be included, such as
Article 1 (Respecting Rights) and Article 13 (Right to an Effective Remedy). Parliament believed that
it was not essential to include these articles within the HRA , as the ECHR are protected by the
domestic courts by the enactment of the HRA,

Friction and Dynamics of Rock Avalanches Travelling on...
Friction and Dynamics of Rock Avalanches Travelling on Glaciers
Rationale
The study of rock avalanches travelling on glaciers or glaciated areas has centred around interpreting
data collected from case studies throughout history. Looking at this data can confirm that, in general,
rock avalanches travelling on glaciers have a reduced coefficient of friction compared to rock on rock
avalanches. The decreased resistance contributes to a higher velocity and further distance travelled.
The precise reason for this behaviour is the subject of the research paper; it explains how and why the
dynamics of rock avalanches on glaciers are different and creates a model that describes the specific
contact between a rock landslide and a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This indicated that the friction coefficient of a rock avalanche on a glacier was not constant.
Before constructing the model, preconditions were established from simple experiments that
determined the basic attributes of solid objects travelling on ice. The preconditions were that heavier
weight caused more energy to dissipate and a larger layer of lubrication (therefore less friction). Rock
sliding on ice behaves in a similar way to a rough metal sliding against a soft metal. In both cases, one
digs grooves in the other, (and the rate of erosion is dependent on the angle at which the grooves are
dug.)
Through collecting data quoted in other studies with regard to friction s role in rock avalanches, a
physical model that demonstrated the mechanics of a rock avalanche travelling on glaciated terrain
was created. The distinguishing feature of this particular research was the construction of a model that
reproduces the behaviour of rock landslides in a high level of detail in order to confirm or contradict
predictions and observations.
The rock landslide is modelled as a rigid block with a fixed thickness and length. On the underside of
the block are indenters, or cone like spikes, that scrape the glacier as the landslide travels along it. The
contact area can then be calculated
Results and Conclusion
The key findings of the research mainly relate to the effects of ploughing and

Salt Late City Law History Essay
Salt Late City Law History
Salt Lake City looks like a very large well organised city, there are fair house allotments and they were
quite large. The city is a good strong planned community with lots of residential areas. The way the
city is set out it is obvious that a strong leader who knew what he wanted has planned the city and
shows through the city that it is very disciplined. There may have been school their as well which
would have proven what a well organised city this is. There are a few large churches, which tells us
that this city is prosperous and religious.

Apart from law and order there were many other problems in mining towns. The majority of the
population were males and built their own cabins, this meant they were probably not very good or
safe. Also they did there own cooking, which probably wasn t the best diet and probably got food
poisoning often. There was an epidemic of typhoid in fall and early winter but there were no deaths,
which show there were healthy and strong. The houses had no drains and most houses were badly kept
so the houses were most likely dirty.
The problems of law and order in early western towns can be studied using the sources these show lots
of lawlessness in towns and murdering. One source shows a bank robbery, this is proof that the towns
did not have any policing. The source shows also that a few vigilantes on the scene, further proof that
the towns were lawless. Vigilantes were present because of the lack of law that there was in the towns.
They felt it necessary that law had to be imposed on the town other wise it could fall apart.
Another source shows a notice from vigilantes pinned to a man hung for murder. This is useful
because it shows the vigilantes taken the law into there own hands. It also states the reasons for the
vigilantes forming, it tells us that life and security is too sacred to not be protected so they will resort
to these means even if it means killing

Will China Invent The Steam Engine Itself If The Opium...
As the development of the industry in China, a question is aroused about whether China can invent the
steam engine itself if the Opium Wars had not happened. In order words, according to the
development degree of China during the Opium Wars period, will it open the industrialization
progress initiatively? In my opinion, after comparing the situation of China and England at that time,
the answer is no. This essay will evaluate in three aspects, which are the political system and policy;
the economic level and the effect of the Opium Wars to prove that answer. In the politic aspect,
England had established a constitutional monarchy before inventing the steam engine, which leaves
more space for people to create something and put into action.

The Importance Of News Events In The Media

newsworthy stories such as Trump s visit to Puerto Rico. The agenda setting of the front page and
framing of crucial stories in major newspapers such as The Guardian, The New York Times, and The
New York Post depict the differences in these outlets such as political orientation, style of journalism,
and audience. The news sources examined highlight the importance of proximity and relevance when

little about those topics, a stark contrast in the stories classified as newsworthy. The Post is also a right
leaning source, which differs from The Guardian and The Times. The opinion sections emphasize the
disparity between these conservative and liberal sources. The Guardian has one opinion article on their
main web page about Las Vegas, titled No it s not hypocritical to call for gun control after Las Vegas.
The writer takes a pro gun control stance from a British perspective. Similarly, The New York Times

The German Invasion Of Poland
Introduction The German invasion of Poland on September 1st 1939, was an experimental display of
the most advanced and intense form of warfare the world had ever seen. With such a drastic use of
power and with aspirations expanding so wide, the German Wehrmacht 1, along with the Soviet Union
and a small Slovak contingent, soon escalated a central European battle into a global conflict. The
target of Poland, for such an experiment had been strategically chosen as a geographical and logistical
advantage, a self proclaimed repossession of pre World War one land ownership, and an eastern front
barrier with Germany s newly established pact/ally (via the Molotov Ribbentrop Pact), the USSR. The
concept of Blitzkrieg warfare had been developed by tactical lessons learned during and most
influentially, toward the end of World War One. When combined with technological innovations
developed until the advent of World War two, Nazi Germany would possess a devastating brainchild
that would eventually grow into the Shock and Awe technique of combat that we see today.2 The
execution of the invasion hailed the Germans with the overall victory they sought, however their
technique of the experiment were far from calibrated. The invading German army received heavy and
unanticipated losses from Polish defenders, even though Polish defense lines fell within two days of
initial invasion. Motivated by the protection of their people and the sanctity of the newly established
country of Poland

Yellow-Legged Frog Project
Overall for this change project, we have learned that the population of frogs has been decreasing all
over the world. There are many factors that decrease their population like agriculture, invasive
species, and the population of humans. Specifically, in California, only 40% of the historical sites in
the Northwest area have Foothill Yellow Legged Frogs, and this has the highest percentage out of all
of California. These frogs are indicators for the environment, meaning they can determine if the area
around them has changed dramatically due to their permeable skin. For our service project, we

we were able to improve the levelness of the area ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The chat was very helpful and we were able to communicate outside of school as well as have
meetings online.
Something that we learned as a group was that cooperation helps a lot. Certain tasks were
accomplished faster and this showed us that one person does not have to do the entire project on their
own. Procrastination is also detrimental, causing cramming on days before deadlines. This can be
stressful and force meetings to be postponed. Our group has also learned to follow a set schedule.
Following a schedule allows us to complete all of our work on time.
Some recommendations that we have to help the Foothill Yellow Legged Frogs incorporates the
government. The government is able to help by putting these amphibians on the endangered list and
providing laws to protect them. Putting restrictions on areas where these frogs live to protect their
population can help these frogs grow, and those who disturb their population should be fined. Another
way these frogs can be helped is to promote volunteering for nonprofit organizations such as Tule

The Rapper Eminem Is Not An Easy Task
Eminem s legendary music has inspired and intrigued many people and critics over the years. Even
though Eminem became famous at such a young age, Eminem s path to stardom was not an easy task.
Although known for constant controversy, the rapper Eminem is a world renown artist whose music
has influenced and impacted many fans and critics.
On October 17, 1972, a child was born in the deep ghetto of Saint Joseph, Missouri, troubled with a
hard life consisting of no father, a druggy mother, and seemingly alone. This child became one of the
most recognized rappers in the world, he is Marshall Bruce Mathers the third (Mattern 1). Over the
years Marshall became close with his uncle (Ronnie Mathers) who inspired him quite much and also
introduced him to rap and hip hop. Only a few years after Ronnie had introduced Marshall to hip hop,
Ronnie committed suicide ( Eminem Contemporary). This affected Marshall greatly for the man who
practically raised him over the years had just committed suicide leaving Marshall alone once again.
Growing up in a very rough and poor town living in a small 747 square foot home (often depicted on
album titles such as his newest album The Marshall Mathers LP 2 (Deluxe)) showed the rough
conditions of Marshall s hard child life ( Eminem Contemporary). Every day was a new battle for this
young man. Constantly fighting his way to the top with not only his fist but also his lyrics and quick
rhymes. Marshall s father had walked out on him and his

For over a year now, New York singer Halsey has been creating quite a buzz, with her eclectic slice of
R B tinged pop. This year, will see the release of her debut studio album Badlands, which follows last
year s Room 93 EP. Helmed by many as the female equivalent of The Weeknd, Halsey has already
mesmerised with the anthemic vibes from New Americana and Ghost . Badlands will see the light of
day, come August 28th. Number Three: Foals What Went Down. Earlier this month, UK indie rock
outfit Foals announced that their new album What Went Down will be released August 28. Along with

were to follow. Describing the record as the loudest and heaviest to date, the band are set to make an
emphatic return, and we can t wait! Number Two: Carly Rae Jepsen E.MO.TION. It s time Taylor
Swift was dethroned as the Queen of Pop, because Carly Rae Jepsen s latest full length project,

MY JOURNEY Life is like a mystery, you won t know what will you face in the next seconds, when it
comes and will it be a happy or sad ending. Sometimes life is frightening, sometimes it s exciting and
sometimes make you don t want to know the ending. The mystery of life is not a problem to be solved
but reality to be experienced and here is one of my journey. In September 2011, my mother received
the offer about a retreat to Taiwan only 8 days before the set off day and we had no idea about the

My Father bought a watch and my mom bought some dry food. By the way let me tell you that the
foods there are a little bit different from Indonesian food, Indonesian s is more tasty. The food there is
not salty or spicy so according to me it s tasteless. One more thing to tell about Taiwanesse habit is
they only take a bath once a day in the evening. In the morning they wash their face and brush their
teeth and the ready to go to work, they usually have bao or in Indonesia we call it bapao for breakfast.
It seems strange to me at first but on the other hand it s also weird for them that we Indonesian people
take a bath twice a day. After several days we went back to Indonesia, for me it s really an awesome
retreat. I m not regret to go there. That I went to Taiwan for retreat is wonderful. Being there for
several days made me got a new experience and knowledge even I had to take off from school for 8
days and when I came back to shool my class friends and my teacher looked at me with a weird
inspection. I don t say that is good to take off from school for travelling but it s really an unforgettable

Dante s Motivation to Write The Divine Comedy Essay
Dante s Motivation to Write The Divine Comedy (La Divina Commedia)
To truly comprehend Dante s Divine Comedy, although complete comprehension is not necessary to
enjoy this literary masterpiece, there are several skills one might need to acquire. For instance, one
helpful piece of knowledge would be the ability to fluently speak Italian, since the many translations
differ being able to have read Dante s actual written words and understand them would make reading
the Divine Comedy a bit more personal and therefore easier to understand. To catch and understand
the plethora of references and allusions made by Dante it would aid any reader with their findings to

What made her special enough to have a 967 page poem about her? Where did she belong in the vast
life of Dante? Why has Dante chosen to paint this truly heavenly picture of her? How did she react to
this? The historical Beatrice was very probably Bice, daughter of Falco Portinari, (Madelbaum [IN]
320) so in reality Beatrice or Bice was really just a childhood neighbor of the Alighieri, who Dante
says he, immediately felt the foce of love for her upon first glance. (Alighieri [VN] 37) However love
at first sight is hardly the case here. They first laid eyes on each other at age nine, Dante being several
months older then Bice, however the twist comes when it isn t until almost nine years after this event
the first words are finally spoken between the two. Soon after this event the heavenly Bice married,
not Dante, but Simone di Bardi and then, sadly, died at a very young age.
What is it exactly that would make Dante write such an epic piece about someone who he never really
knew too well? It is said that, After the death of Beatrice, Dante entered, belatedly but voraciously, a
period of philosophical study. His motives were both the need for consolation and the restless, urban,
unecclesiastical curiosity that characterized one who was becoming the most complete intellectual of
his time. (Mandelbaum [IN] 321) So it is easily noticeable that there is some kind of connection
between Dante and Bice. Yet, is it possible that this affection was a one

Descriptive Essay On A Great Vacation
I was sitting on a hot steamy white sand beach where the ocean was washing into the shore. Cinque
Terre was a nice vacation spot to chill, relax, and go for a swim. Ninety Five degree weather all day
long, everyday. My family and I were staying in a small, no air conditioning house with only 3
bedrooms. During our sleep, we forget to close the windows so little lizards come into our house and
crawl up our walls. Cinque Terre is a great vacation spot for many family activities! Our first day in a
new country, I was having a great time so far! We ran down to the beach and swam for the whole day.
Some local people were hiking up the side of a mountain from the ocean. We noticed there was a large
platform that they created at three top. Us as a whole family wanted to adventure up to the platform to
see what all of the commotion was. Then as we reached the top of the cliff, people were jumping off
and diving, doing all sorts of tricks. We decided to jump as well, this was a fun activity for us. As we
continued hiking to a higher spot we found out that there was several different platforms on the
mountain. People even made a small rocky path for people to walk up to. The tallest platform was too
high for anyone to go on, but we went on the second highest one which was still very scary. On the top
of the mountain, we can see all around the town of Cinque Terre. Also when we looked down at the
clear sea water, we can see all the way to the bottom and see the white sand. Sometimes fish will stroll
by and we can see them swim around our area.
The next day in Cinque Terre was a beautiful day. The ocean waves were rolling in, the bright sun was
shining high. As we were exploring the town looking for activities to do, a friendly tourist came up to
us and told us all about the things him and his family has done for the past week. This gave us some
ideas. We were told to go hiking. Scuba Dive. Explore all the local towns. Or enjoy a nice day at the
beach. Since we have already spent time at the beach we decided to just walk around the many towns
and enjoy our last day their. As we were walking around one of the neighboring towns of Cinque
Terre, we remembered our local guide man told us about hiking. We found a small

It is really immoral to have an affair with someone that married, this is why Dimmesdale is the worst

to keeping his identity as a secret. Dimmesdale does not tell anyone that he s a Hester s lover and
when given the chance to admit his sin, he let it go so many times . There is a time Hester asks him for
help when the old minister tries to take Pearl away from her, she says Thou wast my pastor, and hadst
charge of my soul, and knows me better than these men can. I will not lose my child! Speak for me!
Thou knows, for thou hast sympathies which these men lack! thou knows what is in my heart, and
what are a mother s rights, and how much the stronger there are when that mother has but her child

an opportunity that he could tell everyone the truth and stand up for them, but he chooses to hide it
instead to admit what he has done and allow everyone to learn from his imperfection. He is the worst
sinner because he is a coward that he decides not to confess to everyone even though he has so many
opportunities. The third example of Dimmesdale is the worst sinner than Chillingworth is because he
does not have responsibility for what he has done. After Hester is out of prison, she is punished and

The Roman Daily Life In The Roman Daily Life
For Ancient Romans, daily life could be kind of difficult. The Roman way of life has some similarities
and some differences of today s life. In the everyday life as an ancient roman, a typical Roman day
would start off with a light breakfast and then off to work. Work would end in the early afternoon
when many Romans would take a quick trip to the baths to bathe and socialize. At around three in the
afternoon, they would have dinner which was just as much as a social event as a bath (Macdonald,
26). Most of the people who lived in the Roman Empire lived in the countryside. Most of the people
who lived in the countryside where farmers. They worked very hard, they got up early in the morning
and worked the fields or did chores until the sun went down. Those that lived in the city, they were
there to trade goods, meet important people, and to be entertained (Khan Academy).
Ancient Rome was a complex society that required a number of different job functions and skills to
function. Most of the menial tasks were completed by slaves (abdalkareem, 4). A Roman might have a
job from farming, to being a soldier, to a merchant, from being part of the government. For younger
Romans, it was about school. Roman children started school at the age of seven. Wealthy children
would be taught by a full time tutor. Other children went to public schools. They studied the same
subjects we do today, including, reading, writing, math, literature, and debate. In this time, school was

The Cost Of The Cadillac Tax
Intentions of the Tax One of the primary goals of the Cadillac tax is to reduce the growing costs of
national health care (Lowry 2015). The government is hopeful that implementation of the Cadillac tax
will reduce overall health care expenditures and impede the growth of health care costs by
encouraging a change in consumer behavior through discouraging the provision and obtainment of
overly generous health coverage plans (Herring, 2011). Generally, individuals who are insured spend
greater amounts on health care than those who are not as they can consume greater amounts of
healthcare with a lesser personal burden. In the case that the insurance provided to an individual is
overly generous, it encourages over spending on health care due to the fact that they incur a only a
portion of costs of consumption. In this manner, the consumption of an inefficient amount of health
care is perpetuated by the provision of overly generous health care coverage. This inefficiency and
associated increase in demand for healthcare causes the price of healthcare to rise, which exacerbates
the undesirable growth in national health care costs (Gravelle, 2015). The Cadillac tax aims to
discourage the provision and obtainment of overly generous health care coverage by employers in an
effort to decrease inefficient over consumption of health care and stagnate the growth in healthcare
costs. The intent of the Cadillac tax is to alter consumer behavior to decrease the provision of

The Ethics Of Business Ethics
Business ethics refers to the consideration of moral decisions and responsibilities in the process of
operating a business. Business ethics, practiced throughout the deepest layers of a company, become
the heart and soul of the company s culture and can mean the difference between success and failure.
Values drive behavior and therefore need to be consciously stated, but they also need to be affirmed by
actions. Ethical business environments are created with foundations of integrity, accountability and
commitment. Personal/Professional Application Integrity is defined as following your moral or ethical
convictions and doing the right thing in all circumstances, even if no one is watching you. Having
integrity means you are true to yourself and would do nothing that demeans or dishonors you. When
employees are asked what they want from leaders it is integrity. Qualities change across culture and
time, but what people say they want most in American society is integrity. When people are asked to
define integrity, the word they mention most frequently is honesty. The leader with integrity always
tells the truth as he or she believes it to be. Think about the best leader you have ever had; she or he
probably had integrity. First and foremost, people want a leader they can trust. Ask yourself whether
you have a reputation for integrity. (Manning 6) Integrity can be broken down into sub components:
Honesty honesty creates an open environment in the workplace and effective

The Amboyna Massacre And The Dutch East India Company
The Amboyna Massacre occurred in 1623 on the island of Ambon in present day Indonesia where
twenty men were executed on the accusation of treason by the hands of the Dutch East India
Company. Ten of these men were members of English East India Company who were trading at a post
belonging to the Dutch East India Company. The Amboyna Massacre would result in an intensifying
feud between the English and the Dutch, and would be a symbol for growing European power
throughout the world. The Indies and more specifically Ambon Island would be the stage for this
massacre by the Dutch East India Company. What is more important than this is exactly what the

The Dutch may have very well looked for spices in Portuguese land as a form of retribution for
embargoing the Dutch. The Dutch may have also looked in Portuguese land because they thought it
was not as well as defended or it had easier shipping routes. All three of these reasons were the
potential thought process going through minds of the Dutch rulers at the time. Nearly seven years after
the Spanish had embargoed trade between the Dutch and the Portuguese, Steven van der Hagen
conquered the fortress Victoria at Amboyna. This fortress had previously been a trade center for the
Portuguese spice trade, but after it was captured by Steven van der Hagen in 1605, the spice trade
once again resumed. Once the Dutch had captured fort Victoria, they began to attempt to set up a local
monopsony. To set up a monopsony, all trade competitors had to be removed and there could only be
one buyer for all of the spice sellers. It was quite evident when the Dutch East India Company
captured the fort that setting up a monopsony would be quite difficult especially when considering
other major competitors such as the East India Company. The only way this would be possible was by
force which is where the rift and future rivalry began between the two companies. At this same very
time the East India Company had just been formed in 1600 after multiple

Integrating Special Education Children
Disadvantages of Integrating Special Education Children in Regular Classrooms Few topics have as
much controversy as inclusion of children with special needs in regular classrooms. Few professionals
question the appropriateness of inclusion of students with disabilities in regular classes. However,
significant debate about which students should form part of the general education classes and the time
they should spend in those classes persists. This has led to two groups, one for, and the other against
inclusion. There are those who think that all students belong to regular education. This group claims
that all students have a right to attend school with their peers and this can only occur within a single
system where all students form the learning community. Secondly, the group claims that all students
can benefit from education through supportive learning in inclusive settings. Third, they cite stigma as
unfavorable to the children s welfare. Lastly, they observe that the approaches used in special classes
do not significantly differ from those used in regular classes (Zwaagstra et al. 13). Conversely, the
other group believes that only students who meet certain standards should be included in regular
classes. The group supports inclusion only under unique conditions. This group observes in regular
classrooms instructors cannot offer some of the services that students with disabilities need.
Additionally, they claim that instructors in regular classrooms may lack the

Similarities Between Hamlet And Laertes
In the play Hamlet several acts of revenge are perpetrated. The most important of which are Hamlet s
revenge on Claudius, as Claudius was responsible for Hamlet s father s death because Claudius
wanted the title of King. There also is Laertes revenge against Hamlet as Hamlet was responsible for
the death of Laertes father because he thought he was Claudius. Both Hamlet s and Laertes s success
with their revenge plot can be seen as highly successful.
Hamlet is a highly dramatic character as well as a procrastinator The time is out of joint. O cursed
spite that I ever was born to set it right Hamlet. As indicated by this quote where Hamlet is yet again
over thinking and dramatizing his late father s (the ghost) request to kill Claudius for his crimes.
Hamlet s habit of over obsessing about this matter makes him a man of so called reason rather than
action. This negatively impacts on him, as his actions are then constantly postponed. Due to this
character trait Hamlet may be viewed as a poor revenge seeker.
This view is incorrect, because Hamlet more than makes up for this by not only killing Claudius and
fulfilling his father s wishes, but by also exposing Claudius crimes. He also experiences the success of
his revenge by witnessing Claudius ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

demise. Another argument is that he was actually manipulated by Claudius for Claudius own gain.

The Death Of The Pregnancy Test Essay
Many women find themselves in situations that leave them with an unwanted pregnancy and abort
their baby. The cause of abortion could simply be a birth control failure, from rape or incest, inability
to take care of the child, or in most cases, pressure from others. Whatever the case may be, these
women have chosen to get rid of their child, without thinking of the consequences after it is done.
After a mother chooses to abort her baby, she will be greatly affected psychologically and could
possibly change her and her future family s life forever.
Before the procedure is done, the mother of the child is positive about her decision, unaware of the
mental experiences she will be going through. Nonetheless, after the operation is done, the mother will
experience personal shame that could result in repressed grief, causing serious problems.
The anxiety over the unwanted pregnancy; the drama of the pregnancy test; often, the difficulty of
making the decision, then the waiting before the abortion can take place; perhaps protesters in front of
the clinic; the abortion clinic waiting room, crowded perhaps with other emotional women and men;
the abortion itself the doctors and nurses, the stirrups, the vacuum or other machinery then the
recovery room; the pain and bleeding afterward. All these dramatic experiences are likely to provide
her with indelible memories. A woman may return to them and relive them over and over. (Vitz 1)

  • 2. Chiquita Csr Case Study Analysis: Litigation Chiquita This case study deals primarily with the issue of litigation. The case study focuses especially on litigation concerned with U.S. companies being held accountable in U.S. courts for their actions and influences in foreign countries. The main company highlighted within the case study is Chiquita, the largest employer of banana workers in Latin America. This analysis will dive deeper into the actual issue of litigation and will focus on the Alien Tort Statute (also called the Alien Tort Claims Act [ATCA]), which was a part of the Judiciary Act of 1789. The issue of accountability and the analysis of multiple cases including Chiquita will be discussed in relevancy to litigation and the ATCA. Finally, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If the corporate entity wrongs the constitutional rights of others, shouldn t the state that chartered the corporation be held accountable in some way? Moving forward, who then should hold the state governments accountable for their corporate entities misbehaving overseas if the state governments do nothing to remedy the situation? Since the US Congress has the Constitutional authority to regulate commerce... among the several States as well as with foreign Nations, (Article 1, Section 8 of the US Constitution) should it not also have authority over states involved (via their corporate entities) in foreign commerce with citizens and businesses of other nations? Werther and Chandler raise the question of whether or not U.S. courts should be expanding their jurisdiction, or should these cases be a matter of U.S. foreign and trade policy? Regardless of one s opinion, since the State governments bring the corporations into existence, they should be responsible for the actions taken by their corporations. Chiquita: Another strong example and reinforcement of the ATCA was the lawsuit where 3,000 foreign banana workers were allowed to be heard in U.S. Courts in 2002. These banana workers represented a fraction of those that have been exposed to the pesticide dibromochloropropane (DBCP), also known as Nemagon and Fumazone. Politics And The Economy Are Usually The Main Reasons Behind Politics and the economy are usually the main reasons behind our thoughts about environmental issues and destruction, likewise, we tend to think that implementing laws and rules are the only way to fix those issues. However, as Joseph Wood Krutch, an American writer and an environmentalist who was awarded the National Book Award for his nature books on the American Southwest, mentioned is his book: If people destroy something replaceable made by mankind, they are called vandals; if they destroy something irreplaceable made by God, they are called developers. • 6. Rhetorical Devices In American Pie Isiah Jones Professor Harley LA 201 29 November 2017 Essay 3 The song American Pie , by Don McLean, was a dominate rock and roll hit in 1971. McLean illustrates famous rock star artist and songwriter Buddy Holly, who died in a plane crash in 1962 by using rhetorical strategies. The different potential interpretations of this song made it one of the most controversial songs from the 1970 s. McLean was hitting home with many emotional resonances defining moments in the recent American experiences. American Pie starts out addressing McLean love for music in the 50 s. During the 50 s, music was a tool for getting people off their feet and on to the dance floors. And I knew if I had my chance, that I could make those people dance, and maybe they d be happy for a while (McLean). This verse symbolizes why he loves to create and perform for his fans. McLean then goes on to mention his mentor Buddy Holly. But February made me shiver. With every paper, I d deliver. Shocking news on the doorstep, I couldn t take one more step. I can t remember if I cried. When I read about his widowed bride. But something touched me deep inside. The day the music died (McLean). Buddy Holly died on February 3, 1959, in a plane crash. There are two theories on why the song was called American Pie. It was rumored, American Pie was the name of the plane that took Buddy Holly life. Also, someone refers it to a symbol of the beauty queen Miss America (Morgan). Mclean remembered the paper boy delivering the morning paper and there on the front page, was the story of the death of Buddy Holly. At the time Holly s wife was pregnant and soon had a miscarriage afterward. McLean, he says he can t remember if he cried in the moment or not. All this was in the first few verses in American Pie. McLean incorporated these lines of imagery to help the listener picture his past emotional experiences. I believe McLean wanted to paint a picture for his audience could relate to. During these times it was tough for McLean. Not only did Buddy Holly die but also rock star legends Richie Valens, and the Big Bopper. For McLean music died for him and the rest of the world. Being American and in the land of opportunity we see and hear of endless possibilities, but everyone does not get to enjoy the possibilities because the possibilities are not really endless. • 8. Attenuation Types Of Photon Energy The CBCT is relatively recent technology, with the first commercial scanner being introduced in 1998 for dental imaging (87) This is a type of CT that uses a cone X ray beam instead of the conventional fan beam (88). For standard full field of view for CBCT, polychromatic X rays are generated from a source tube excited by 100 120 kV tube potential with 1.5 10 mA current (89). The emitted X ray photon energy is absorbed by materials located be¬tween the X ray source and detector. The remaining energy after absorption is recorded on a detector as expressed by intensity (I) that represents energy per area and time. For example, the flat panel detector consists of a pixel array of hydrogenated amorphous silicon thin film transistors (88). A ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 1. Larger detectors have a greater chance of encountering the scattered X ray pho¬tons leading to streak artefacts during reconstruction pro¬cess for the CBCT image (90). Beam hardening occur as the energy levels of polychromatic X ray beams used in the CBCT are not identical, the lower energy photons can be easily absorbed at the edges of the scanned subject resulting in hardening of the X ray beam, which produces lower gray values toward the center of the subject (cup¬ping artifact) even if the density of the subject is homoge¬nous (91) Defects or un calibrated components in the detector may cause ring artefacts with concentric rings in the CBCT im¬age. Scanning dense metallic materials can cause severe streaking artifacts when their gray values exceed the maxi mum level of operation that the software can handle (91). Shading or streaking artefacts may be observed when the gray values are incorrectly registered due to patient motion during CBCT scanning (90,91) This artefact com¬monly appears as double contours in the CBCT image. To date, CBCT based BMD measurement has been used mainly to estimate bone properties for dental implanta¬tion (92). The BMD measured from CBCT images showed a better predicting power to estimate cortical bone frac¬ture than assessed by the conventional DXA images (93). Randall Jarrell Essay The Fabulous Life and Works of Randall Jarrell The experience collected throughout a lifetime shape a person s identity, with each choice made, bringing one closer to self realization, and the lessons of the past always affecting the decisions of the future. This phenomenon can be clearly observed when looking back on the life and works of Randall Jarrell, a literary genius during the World War Two era. Throughout his life Jarrell collected experiences which shaped not only his works, but also forged who he became as a person. Amidst the onslaught of industrialism, propaganda, and the horrific realization of a world at war, arose the most celebrated work of Randall Jarrell. Many of Jarrell s best works came from his time in the Air Force training pilots and operating the navigation tower. Having that kind of first hand experience with current events allowed Jarrell to reach an audience that became captivated by his poetry, which struck the heart of certain issues. Without these back influencing what he chose to write about and how he wrote it, Jarrell most certainly would not have been remembered as he currently is. Though America received its independence in 1776, we still rely on not only other nations to keep us going but also on various regions within the country as well. The geographical term, regional complementarity, is often associated with the United States as it heavily relies on others while others heavily rely on them as well. Friction and Dynamics of Rock Avalanches Travelling on Glaciers Rationale The study of rock avalanches travelling on glaciers or glaciated areas has centred around interpreting data collected from case studies throughout history. Looking at this data can confirm that, in general, rock avalanches travelling on glaciers have a reduced coefficient of friction compared to rock on rock avalanches. The decreased resistance contributes to a higher velocity and further distance travelled. The precise reason for this behaviour is the subject of the research paper; it explains how and why the dynamics of rock avalanches on glaciers are different and creates a model that describes the specific contact between a rock landslide and a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This indicated that the friction coefficient of a rock avalanche on a glacier was not constant. Before constructing the model, preconditions were established from simple experiments that determined the basic attributes of solid objects travelling on ice. The preconditions were that heavier weight caused more energy to dissipate and a larger layer of lubrication (therefore less friction). Rock sliding on ice behaves in a similar way to a rough metal sliding against a soft metal. In both cases, one digs grooves in the other, (and the rate of erosion is dependent on the angle at which the grooves are dug.) Through collecting data quoted in other studies with regard to friction s role in rock avalanches, a physical model that demonstrated the mechanics of a rock avalanche travelling on glaciated terrain was created. The distinguishing feature of this particular research was the construction of a model that reproduces the behaviour of rock landslides in a high level of detail in order to confirm or contradict predictions and observations. The rock landslide is modelled as a rigid block with a fixed thickness and length. On the underside of the block are indenters, or cone like spikes, that scrape the glacier as the landslide travels along it. The contact area can then be calculated Results and Conclusion The key findings of the research mainly relate to the effects of ploughing and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 18. The German Invasion Of Poland Introduction The German invasion of Poland on September 1st 1939, was an experimental display of the most advanced and intense form of warfare the world had ever seen. With such a drastic use of power and with aspirations expanding so wide, the German Wehrmacht 1, along with the Soviet Union and a small Slovak contingent, soon escalated a central European battle into a global conflict. The target of Poland, for such an experiment had been strategically chosen as a geographical and logistical advantage, a self proclaimed repossession of pre World War one land ownership, and an eastern front barrier with Germany s newly established pact/ally (via the Molotov Ribbentrop Pact), the USSR. The concept of Blitzkrieg warfare had been developed by tactical lessons learned during and most influentially, toward the end of World War One. When combined with technological innovations developed until the advent of World War two, Nazi Germany would possess a devastating brainchild that would eventually grow into the Shock and Awe technique of combat that we see today.2 The execution of the invasion hailed the Germans with the overall victory they sought, however their technique of the experiment were far from calibrated. • 26. The Roman Daily Life In The Roman Daily Life For Ancient Romans, daily life could be kind of difficult. The Roman way of life has some similarities and some differences of today s life. In the everyday life as an ancient roman, a typical Roman day would start off with a light breakfast and then off to work. Work would end in the early afternoon when many Romans would take a quick trip to the baths to bathe and socialize. At around three in the afternoon, they would have dinner which was just as much as a social event as a bath (Macdonald, 26). Most of the people who lived in the Roman Empire lived in the countryside. Most of the people who lived in the countryside where farmers. They worked very hard, they got up early in the morning and worked the fields or did chores until the sun went down. Those that lived in the city, they were there to trade goods, meet important people, and to be entertained (Khan Academy). Ancient Rome was a complex society that required a number of different job functions and skills to function. Most of the menial tasks were completed by slaves (abdalkareem, 4). A Roman might have a job from farming, to being a soldier, to a merchant, from being part of the government. For younger Romans, it was about school. Roman children started school at the age of seven. Wealthy children would be taught by a full time tutor. Other children went to public schools. They studied the same subjects we do today, including, reading, writing, math, literature, and debate. In this time, school was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 27. The Cost Of The Cadillac Tax Intentions of the Tax One of the primary goals of the Cadillac tax is to reduce the growing costs of national health care (Lowry 2015). The government is hopeful that implementation of the Cadillac tax will reduce overall health care expenditures and impede the growth of health care costs by encouraging a change in consumer behavior through discouraging the provision and obtainment of overly generous health coverage plans (Herring, 2011). Generally, individuals who are insured spend greater amounts on health care than those who are not as they can consume greater amounts of healthcare with a lesser personal burden. In the case that the insurance provided to an individual is overly generous, it encourages over spending on health care due to the fact that they incur a only a portion of costs of consumption. In this manner, the consumption of an inefficient amount of health care is perpetuated by the provision of overly generous health care coverage. This inefficiency and associated increase in demand for healthcare causes the price of healthcare to rise, which exacerbates the undesirable growth in national health care costs (Gravelle, 2015). The Cadillac tax aims to discourage the provision and obtainment of overly generous health care coverage by employers in an effort to decrease inefficient over consumption of health care and stagnate the growth in healthcare costs. The intent of the Cadillac tax is to alter consumer behavior to decrease the provision of unnecessarily ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 30. The Ethics Of Business Ethics Business ethics refers to the consideration of moral decisions and responsibilities in the process of operating a business. Business ethics, practiced throughout the deepest layers of a company, become the heart and soul of the company s culture and can mean the difference between success and failure. Values drive behavior and therefore need to be consciously stated, but they also need to be affirmed by actions. Ethical business environments are created with foundations of integrity, accountability and commitment. Personal/Professional Application Integrity is defined as following your moral or ethical convictions and doing the right thing in all circumstances, even if no one is watching you. Having integrity means you are true to yourself and would do nothing that demeans or dishonors you. When employees are asked what they want from leaders it is integrity. Qualities change across culture and time, but what people say they want most in American society is integrity. When people are asked to define integrity, the word they mention most frequently is honesty. The leader with integrity always tells the truth as he or she believes it to be. Think about the best leader you have ever had; she or he probably had integrity. First and foremost, people want a leader they can trust. Ask yourself whether you have a reputation for integrity. • 31. The Amboyna Massacre And The Dutch East India Company The Amboyna Massacre occurred in 1623 on the island of Ambon in present day Indonesia where twenty men were executed on the accusation of treason by the hands of the Dutch East India Company. Ten of these men were members of English East India Company who were trading at a post belonging to the Dutch East India Company. The Amboyna Massacre would result in an intensifying feud between the English and the Dutch, and would be a symbol for growing European power throughout the world. The Indies and more specifically Ambon Island would be the stage for this massacre by the Dutch East India Company. What is more important than this is exactly what the Indies had to offer for both companies at the time. In short, the answers are trade ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Dutch may have very well looked for spices in Portuguese land as a form of retribution for embargoing the Dutch. The Dutch may have also looked in Portuguese land because they thought it was not as well as defended or it had easier shipping routes. All three of these reasons were the potential thought process going through minds of the Dutch rulers at the time. Nearly seven years after the Spanish had embargoed trade between the Dutch and the Portuguese, Steven van der Hagen conquered the fortress Victoria at Amboyna. This fortress had previously been a trade center for the Portuguese spice trade, but after it was captured by Steven van der Hagen in 1605, the spice trade once again resumed. Once the Dutch had captured fort Victoria, they began to attempt to set up a local monopsony. To set up a monopsony, all trade competitors had to be removed and there could only be one buyer for all of the spice sellers. It was quite evident when the Dutch East India Company captured the fort that setting up a monopsony would be quite difficult especially when considering other major competitors such as the East India Company. The only way this would be possible was by force which is where the rift and future rivalry began between the two companies. At this same very time the East India Company had just been formed in 1600 after multiple ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It focuses on how the poor work a lot and the rich benefit from it. The rich know nothing if the trials of the poor; (Mary Barton) This quote stuck out to me because in the book it seemed to talk a lot about how the rich benefited the most from what the poor did. This in turn created areas in the city that were mostly poor. Once these people were in this part of the city they had a hard time getting out. It was hard for them to make money to get out of there. • 33. Integrating Special Education Children Disadvantages of Integrating Special Education Children in Regular Classrooms Few topics have as much controversy as inclusion of children with special needs in regular classrooms. Few professionals question the appropriateness of inclusion of students with disabilities in regular classes. However, significant debate about which students should form part of the general education classes and the time they should spend in those classes persists. This has led to two groups, one for, and the other against inclusion. There are those who think that all students belong to regular education. This group claims that all students have a right to attend school with their peers and this can only occur within a single system where all students form the learning community. Secondly, the group claims that all students can benefit from education through supportive learning in inclusive settings. Third, they cite stigma as unfavorable to the children s welfare. Lastly, they observe that the approaches used in special classes do not significantly differ from those used in regular classes (Zwaagstra et al. 13). Conversely, the other group believes that only students who meet certain standards should be included in regular classes. The group supports inclusion only under unique conditions. This group observes in regular classrooms instructors cannot offer some of the services that students with disabilities need. Additionally, they claim that instructors in regular classrooms may lack the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. Similarities Between Hamlet And Laertes In the play Hamlet several acts of revenge are perpetrated. The most important of which are Hamlet s revenge on Claudius, as Claudius was responsible for Hamlet s father s death because Claudius wanted the title of King. There also is Laertes revenge against Hamlet as Hamlet was responsible for the death of Laertes father because he thought he was Claudius. Both Hamlet s and Laertes s success with their revenge plot can be seen as highly successful. Hamlet is a highly dramatic character as well as a procrastinator The time is out of joint. O cursed spite that I ever was born to set it right Hamlet. As indicated by this quote where Hamlet is yet again over thinking and dramatizing his late father s (the ghost) request to kill Claudius for his crimes. Hamlet s habit of over obsessing about this matter makes him a man of so called reason rather than action. This negatively impacts on him, as his actions are then constantly postponed. Due to this character trait Hamlet may be viewed as a poor revenge seeker. The cause of abortion could simply be a birth control failure, from rape or incest, inability to take care of the child, or in most cases, pressure from others. Whatever the case may be, these women have chosen to get rid of their child, without thinking of the consequences after it is done. After a mother chooses to abort her baby, she will be greatly affected psychologically and could possibly change her and her future family s life forever. Before the procedure is done, the mother of the child is positive about her decision, unaware of the mental experiences she will be going through. Nonetheless, after the operation is done, the mother will experience personal shame that could result in repressed grief, causing serious problems. The anxiety over the unwanted pregnancy; the drama of the pregnancy test; often, the difficulty of making the decision, then the waiting before the abortion can take place; perhaps protesters in front of the clinic; the abortion clinic waiting room, crowded perhaps with other emotional women and men; the abortion itself the doctors and nurses, the stirrups, the vacuum or other machinery then the recovery room; the pain and bleeding afterward. All these dramatic experiences are likely to provide her with indelible memories. A woman may return to them and relive them over and over.
