The song American Pie , by Don McLean, was a dominate rock and roll hit in 1971. McLean
illustrates famous rock star artist and songwriter Buddy Holly, who died in a plane crash in 1962 by
using rhetorical strategies. The different potential interpretations of this song made it one of the most
controversial songs from the 1970 s. McLean was hitting home with many emotional resonances
defining moments in the recent American experiences. American Pie starts out addressing McLean
love for music in the 50 s. During the 50 s, music was a tool for getting people off their feet and on to
the dance floors. And I knew if I had my chance, that I could make those people dance, and maybe
they d be happy for a while (McLean). This verse symbolizes why he loves to create and perform for
his fans. McLean then goes on to mention his mentor Buddy Holly. But February made me shiver.
With every paper, I d deliver. Shocking news on the doorstep, I couldn t take one more step. I can t
remember if I cried. When I read about his widowed bride. But something touched me deep inside.

Similarities Between Hamlet And Laertes
In the play Hamlet several acts of revenge are perpetrated. The most important of which are Hamlet s
revenge on Claudius, as Claudius was responsible for Hamlet s father s death because Claudius
wanted the title of King. There also is Laertes revenge against Hamlet as Hamlet was responsible for
the death of Laertes father because he thought he was Claudius. Both Hamlet s and Laertes s success
with their revenge plot can be seen as highly successful.
Hamlet is a highly dramatic character as well as a procrastinator The time is out of joint. O cursed
spite that I ever was born to set it right Hamlet. As indicated by this quote where Hamlet is yet again

Hamlet s habit of over obsessing about this matter makes him a man of so called reason rather than

demise. Another argument is that he was actually manipulated by Claudius for Claudius own gain.
