Descriptive Essay On The Place Of A Restaurant
What I thought was another quiet cafe in another quiet town was anything but... As soon as I walked
in I could tell that something else was going on with the way everyone stared at me. The only greeting
I got was from the dog in desperate need of a bath jumping on me. The tall waitress called something
and it jumped off but made sure to stay near.I found a corner booth that seems to have been cleaned in
the last 10 years unlike everything else in this place. The only other people desperate enough to eat
here was a small family of 3 whose daughter looked like she had just drank 10 cups of coffee and a
mother who looked like she hadn t slept in years. While thinking about whether or not I could stomach
this place for long enough to eat a full meal the tall brown haired waitress, whose name tag was so old
I could barely read it, comes and hands me a worn out menu with half of the food crossed out. I
glanced at what I could only assume was a half eaten hamburger sitting on my table and decided
against getting that. I finally settled on a piece of apple pie and a water for my evening meal.
After waiting for about 30 minutes trying to get the waitress s attention the owner finally walked over.
He was dressed to look like he was running a 5 star restaurant. With the money he spent on that suit he
could have afforded to knock this place over and rebuild it, or at least buy new wallpaper that didn t
look like it had been put up in the 1920s by a blind man. I finally received my order

Containing Retinal Ganglion Cells: Architecture, Projections, and Intrinsic Photosensitivity S. Hattar,
H.W. Liao, M. Takao, D.M. Berson, K.W. Yau 1. What is the objective/hypothesis/question of this
study? (1 point) The objective of this study is to investigate the molecular mechanisms responsible for
non image forming visual responses, such as the coordination of the biological clock. Because retinal
rod and cone cells are not required for non image forming visual responses, the researchers
hypothesized that retinal ganglion cells (RGC) may be the light sensitive cells utilized in the non
image forming visual response pathway. The researchers also hypothesized that if the RGCs are light
sensitive, then the protein melanopsin, which is found on the surface of RGCs, is likely the
photopigment that causes RGCs to respond to light. 2. What is the rationale and relevance of the
question? (1 point) This study is important because it allows us to better understand the mechanisms
that regulate essential biological functions such as pupil control and circadian rhythm. This research is
especially relevant to those who suffer from certain disorders that disrupt normal biological responses
and functions, such as hypernychthemeral syndrome. Hypernychthemeral syndrome, or Non24, is
characterized by delays in tiredness as well as continuous shifts in awareness. Non24 is just one of
many circadian

Native American Culture In The 18th And 19th Century
In the United States, there are over 500 federally recognized American and Native tribes. All which
study and practice their own set of cultures and values. Religion, language, food and way of dress are
what makes every tribe different in their own unique way. The Indian Wars of both the 18th and 19th
century caused many of these tribes to relocate thus causing them to not only lose their homelands but
also their cultural identity. Native Americans were prohibited from practicing religion and cultural
ceremonies. This caused a recession in youth obtaining the knowledge to keep their cultural
renaissance alive and pass on their tribal dialects to future generations. Today, however Native
Americans are thriving at branding their youth with generation after generation of language, religion,
ceremonial tradition etc. The Native American culture ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hispanic Americans may not have been kicked off their homeland and prohibited to study and teach
religion but they too have had to fight for their freedom. The Natives fought for their land and the
mexicans fought for territory. Different yet same. Decades ago, in the hispanic culture, the females
were raised to tend to the children and the men. Young females were considered women at very young
ages and were expected to get married and bear children. The men would go out and work to put food
on the table. In the Native Culture, it was the same, however native men would go out and hunt while
the native women would stay behind and tend to the children and work. Their work not only consisted
of cooking and cleaning, it also consisted of a full day of weaving baskets, stretching leather, picking
corn and anything needed for survival. The native woman was strong with belief and spiritual healing,
while hispanic women were dominated by the man. Today, however things have changed for both
cultures. Women are expected to work as well as take care of the home and

Theme Of The Scarlet Ibis
In the short story The Scarlet Ibis, James Hurst uses the setting to have a greater effect on how the
reader feels while reading the text. Hurst uses the setting to describe the lighthearted parts of the text,
such as Doodle learning how to walk and stand, the dark parts of the narrative, such as when Doodle
dies, and also uses setting to bring attention to the emotions felt by the reader and mood of the story.
Hurst uses setting to describe the lighthearted parts of the text in order to affect how the audience feels
while reading the story. Doodle stands up for the first time in Old Woman Swamp, which is a very
happy and carefree place. There, the grass beneath [them] was soft and the smell of the swamp was
sweet. When Doodle finally stands up, there s a sense of relief and happiness that we have for Doodle,
as he has made a major life achievement. He completes this achievement in Old Woman Swamp,
which was a very happy place. Doodle himself calls Old Woman Swamp So pretty, pretty, pretty.
Many flowers can be found in Old Woman Swamp, and Brother describes these flowers as jewels.
Brother also makes note of the way the sunlight touched the tops of the trees, [where] the slanted rays
of the sun [burns] orange in the tops of the pines. This gives Old Woman Swamp a glowing and
heaven like feeling, which translates to the reader, so the reader will feel just as lighthearted and
carefree as Doodle and Brother felt while they were at Old Woman Swamp. These

Challenges Faced By The Australian Government And Designers
Australia, like many other countries across the globe, faces challenges presented by existing climate
conditions and the future rates of change. Today s decisions, policies, and developing technologies
may alter the ways that climate change will impact the country. As a whole, the Australian government
and designers are already beginning to address these issues through the implementation of sustainable
building codes and the use of climate responsive design and materials that will adjust as the climate
does.
While the smallest of the world s continents, Australia is a vast country, the sixth largest in the world,
covering over 7.5 million square kilometers. While generally one of the flattest and driest regions,

The number of extreme fire risk days has grown over the past four decades as well, more than doubled

Additionally, heatwaves are among the highest impact climate events in terms of human health,
resulting is as many as 374 more deaths than average in Victoria during the heatwave of early 2009
alone (Australian Academy of Science). As such, these changes are becoming an issue that Australia is
not simply able to ignore. With these problems only continuing to get worse, the nation is being forced
to look at means of further adaptation, and sustainability issues are being considered for stricter
regulation, or else it will see potentially disastrous decline of its economy, infrastructure, environment,
and overall livability.
On a more general level, certain building codes and standards must undergo changes and be able to

Los Angeles, Five High Schools Essay
Throughout many cities, in specifically Los Angeles, five high schools were faced with
discrimination. Lincoln, Garfield, Wilson, Belmont, Roosevelt high schools was targeted in many
racist ways. These high schools had restricted rules towards students. Majority of the student
populations in these schools were Latinxs. They faced problems that were not as necessary
problematic. According to Jose Angel Gutierrez, English was the only language allowed spoken in the
classroom and schoolyard. Severe punishment awaited the bold who uttered their native Spanish
language within earshot of school officials (2). Students were forbidden to speak Spanish during
school hours. Students were forbidden from using the bathroom, especially during lunchtime. Students
were denied to be taught their Mexican American history. Students were mostly being led into the
labor industry instead of going to college and getting a degree. According to E. Esparza (2006), We
had a huge conference that summer of 1967, in which college students there were a couple of hundred
came together from throughout Southern California. It was basically almost everyone who was in
college then, because there was less than 2% of all Chicanos that even enrolled in college . Students
were discriminated by many teachers and administrators. Administrators were not responsible and
repeatedly called out, leaving small staff to teach the students. Students did not only receive these
discriminatory actions, they also

The Tempest Essay
Throughout the play The Tempest there is a relationship that pits master and slave in a harmony that
benefits both parties. Though it may sound strange, these slaves sometimes have a goal or expectation
that they hope to have fulfilled. Although rarely realized by its by its participants, the Master Slave,
Slave Master relationship is a balance of expectation and fear by the slaves to the master; and a

Marius Pontmercy s Rebellion Against The French Government
Marius Pontmercy should not be convicted for his participation in the rebellion against the French
government because it was not a direct assault on the government. First, the friends of Marius were
very involved in the uprising and Marius felt an obligation to support his friends in their cause since
they had been so supportive of him. Second, Marius father, Georges Pontmercy, was a soldier in
Napoleon s army. He was dedicated to a cause he believed in and because Marius had a great respect
for his father, he probably wanted to honor his legacy by following that example determination.
Finally, the night of the uprising was the night Maris learned of Jean Valjean s plan to leave with his
daughter Cosette. Since Marius loved Cosette he was utterly devastated to discover she was leaving
him. This shock caused him to feel as though there were no purpose to his life so his involvement in

Christianity, Christianity And The Teachings Of Christianity
Christianity has specific teachings within its religion that all christians practice. Christians believe in
the Trinity which is the Father, Son, and the Holy spirit. God is the father, son is Jesus, and the holy
spirit is a spirit. Another teaching of Christianity is that christian life is marked by baptism. Baptism is
when christians are submerged in water or water is sprinkled over their head and it symbolizes
purification. They practice this teaching because they believe that it is a way of recognizing that Jesus
died for their sins, was buried in a tomb, and rose from the dead. Christians also teach that the Bible is
the word of God and they believe in the Bible and what the Bible says. Islam teaches The Five Pillars
of Islam. The Five Pillars of Islam are Faith, Prayer, Charity, Fasting, and Pilgrimage. Faith is the
belief of one god, Prayer is praying five times a day, Charity is giving or donating to those in need,
Fasting is only eating after sunset to sunrise for a whole month, and Pilgrimage is the journey to
Mecca. The Five Pillars of Islam are practiced by every Muslim. Another teaching within Islam is that
they all believe in one god who is named Allah. The last teaching is that Muhammad who was the last
prophet of their god Allah is the messiah, which means Muhammad is their messenger of god.
Monotheism is believing in only one god. Both Christianity and Islam are Monotheistic religions and
believe in the same god. They are also similar because

How Does Lewis Use Temptation In The Screwtape Letter
In The Screwtape Letters by C.S.Lewis, the novel is from the perspective of Screwtape, who is writing
letters to his nephew. Screwtape shows clever subtlety in tempting patients to self centeredness in
prayers through feelings and images, to gluttony through delicacy, and to pride through membership in
an elite Christian social circle. Screwtape uses many, seemingly good, things to manipulate his
patients. Lewis uses this as an illustration of how easily humans can fall into temptation. Screwtape
uses pride, and intellect as a form of temptation throughout the novel, even while the patient is a
Christian. In the beginning, the patient is a hard intellect, which turns him off of Christianity, as it is
illogical. However, the patient is eventually converted to faith, yet even then, he is overcome by pride.
He is prideful to his intellectual friends, as he is more virtuous than them. Yet, he is also prideful to his
Christian friends, since he is obviously the intellectual superior, and has a better grasp on reality.
Screwtape suggest using this as a way to pull him away. With this pride, he will never truly be a part
of the Christian group, and will always be detached from his faith. Lewis uses this as an example of
how pride can corrupt even the purest intentions. The patient lets his intellect ... Show more content on

Compare American and Chinese Universities
Compare American and Chinese Universities
American universities and Chinese universities have very different admission requirements. American
universities, most of them, offer fall term and spring term enrollments, and some schools even offer
winter term or summer term enrollments as well. When they make a decision of whether to admit an
applicant, they consider the applicant s GPA and SAT score, and sometimes give privileges to students
who demonstrate their achievements on extra curricula activities. Because most of American
universities accept both types of freshman and transfer students, students who are not able to enroll at
a four year university right after they graduate from high school can still apply for universities as

By this system, students have flexibility to choose a class and schedule a course roadmap that outlines
the courses students take within the terms. Students can take courses on fall term and spring term at
semester system schools, and fall term, winter term and spring term at quarter system schools. Many
schools offer a summer session for students as well. Therefore, each student would have their unique
class schedule and course roadmap based on their own preference. On the contrary, Chinese
universities have a very different system called academic year system, which means students graduate
when they finish certain years of study. By this system, students are required to declare their majors
very early in which on the application form when they apply for the school. Since the major is
decided, students have to follow the school made course roadmap to take most of the courses.
Students in Chinese universities may have a few choices on choosing a different instructor or different
class time for the general education classes, but they have very limited choices for the major classes.
Moreover, all the universities in China do not offer summer session. Consequently, in most
circumstances, same major students who enrolled in the school in the same year probably have same
class schedule each semester, especially on junior and senior level. Therefore, based on the education
system, American university students and Chinese

What Does Masculine Mean To Me
Masculine to me means that not only are you physically strong mentally and emotionally strong. It
also means that you carry yourself with confidence and humility and compassion. To me it s important
that a male is able to express his emotions without feeling weak. To me, masculine, means to respect
others no matter what circumstance and be responsible.
I get my idea of what it means to be a good man from my own believes, some of my family ideas, and
from the Bible. I believe that these characteristics decide what a man is: Educated, hard working,
compassionate, humble, taking responsibility for their own , loving, and brave. Even being
emotionally vulnerable is another characteristic that describes a man to me.

How Is Social Engineering Used To Manipulate A Criminal
Social engineering refers to the techniques that are used by the criminals to manipulate people to give
out their confidential information such as user names, passwords and bank accountants without being
aware (Hadnagy, 2011). This technique is used by the criminals over the internet to trick people to
disclose their confidential information rather than hacking the software installed on their PC. Social
engineering takes different forms and it is perpetrated by the individuals who wants to take advantage
of others after getting confidential information that allows them to access their accounts such as email

technique of social engineering and it involves installing software in an individual s PC remotely. The

Devolution Of The Ocean
The Ocean makes up 80% of the earth s body and is home to many marine life and is also a source of

ecological extinction. Over the last several decades human activity has altered the oceans basic cycles
causing it to go into evolution, but in this case backwards. Many factors contribute to the devolution
of the ocean. Pollution, Overfishing, Climate change and many other factors. The problem is Society

Despite that, the human appetite has caused fisherman to increase fishing by creating innovative ways
to fish. With new the technology we are able to catch 94 million tons a year(Earth Policy Institute
1996) of fish. The fish don t stand a chance with the evolving technology. Techniques that are usually
common when it comes to fishing is when a ship drags enormous cages along the ocean s bottom and
haul nets the size of football fields through the water. Every country uses this method The United
States, Japan, Germany etc. but the country that outnumbers all of those countries is china. The basic
fact that China is hungry for fish. As the nation s standard of living rises, demand for seafood has
soared. Per capita, the Chinese eat 50 percent more fish than Americans. The country s 1.4 billion
citizens eat more fish than those of the next 10 biggest countries combined....one third of the world s
total according to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization. China has one of the biggest
fish industries in the world, How does this contribute to the destruction of the ocean? We are catching
fishes by tons, Many fishes don t get to reproduce and most of the time we leave the animals with less
food for them to eat for example, catching an entire surplus of one fish may starve another fish that
relied on it for food. Many unwanted fish get tangled into the cages or nets as well for example, when
a ship is sailing along with its nets and cages open many untargeted fishes get tangled into the nets.
Ten pounds of unwanted fish are killed for every pound of shrimp caught in the southern United States
(Carl Safina). Not only are we over fishing a targeted fish they are also catching untargeted fish. In
Some cases according to Safina, Dolphins and sharks and even seals get stuck into those cages and die

Taste And Cultural Opinion On Taste
Taste in incredibly complex and subjective. It can be both a personal and cultural opinion that holds
influence over the world around us and how we as a society and an audience think, feel and view
things we are presented with. Taste is an integral part of modern consumption and can change and
evolve over time considerably along with our own personal experiences and opinion. Taste can
inexplicably cause conflict due to its fickle nature, this can lead to taste becoming a problem. If
something does not conform to society and culture s taste then it will most likely be subject to
censorship, in an effort to make the content conform and become tasteful. In this essay I shall be
looking at three different things that have all been affected issues of taste and cultural opinion along
with censorship. The use of censorship in tandem with taste is an interesting link that I shall hopefully
explore and discuss.

Gen. Stat. § 1A 1, Rule 12.
The above statue is affirmed in Sutton v. Duke, 277 N.C. 9, 102 (N.C. 1970), Where the court
established the sufficiency of notice pleading. This type of pleading provides a statement of a claim is
adequate if it gives sufficient notice of the claim asserted to enable the adverse party to answer and
prepare for trial, to allow for the application of the doctrine of res judicata, and to show the type of
case brought
Further defining what is required for a complaint to be sufficient, Sutton establishes that, detailed fact
pleading is no longer required. A pleading complies with the rule if it gives sufficient notice of the
events or transactions which produced the claim to enable the adverse party to understand the nature
of it and the basis for it. Id. at 104. The court provided the rational for only requiring such notice by
indicating how the opportunity for discovery and the other pretrial procedures established by the Rules
to disclose more precisely the basis of both claim and defense and to define more narrowly the
disputed facts and issues. Id. at 102.
In addition, Buchanan v. Hunter Douglas, Inc., 87 N.C. App. 84, 88 (1987) affirms , The requirements

Alla Ajuera Summary
Allá Ajuera is a dramatic poem that shows the exchange between a mother and a son. The son wants to
play outside, but his mom is afraid for him. He does not understand why his mother is so against him
going outside. He says to his mother quiero vivir allá ajuera showing that the child feels like he is not
allowed to live freely if he is inside all of the time. His mother responds and tells him no mijo, allá

white man and does not want her son to go outside and play where the boss s children are playing in
fear of the children causing problems and her son being blamed and her having to face any
consequences. To avoid this, she does not want her son to play outside. The son wants to be a child
and be happy, but his mother wants to shield him from the harsh reality that the world that he lived in
did not want him to be happy. The son questions his mother and asks her Father Josue says God loves
us And he says we gonna be happy/When we die...tell me why we gotta wait Why we gotta die/To be
happy. His mother responds así lo quiso diocito, mijo. The son is innocent and naive and does not
know why he cannot be like the other children and have fun playing outside. The only explanation the
mother is able to offer to him is that this is the way God intended it to be and there is nothing that can
be done to change the circumstances. Lastly, after the mother has made her

When people hear the name Ben Carson they think of the neurosurgeon, who separated the Siamese
conjoined twins; Patrick and Benjamin Binder, at his adult age of 33. They will remember what a
tough process it must ve been on the parents, and especially on their mother, Theresa Binder after she
d searched throughout the medical world to find a team that would separate her twins while being able
to preserve both of their lives. There were other surgeon teams who told her it could not be done and
that one of her sons would have to die, which is a thought that she could not even bare. Luckily, she d
discovered the John Hopkins Team and met Ben Carson who was one of the neurosurgeons there and
was able to separate her twin boys keeping both of them alive. / Moreover, they will think of the
young man who was encouraged by his mother to work hard in school and read for a quality education
and the opportunity for him to achieve his all time dream which at his young age was to become a
doctor, though he was not very sure what kind. Ben Carson, known as Dr. Carson today was born in
Detroit, Michigan, on September 18, 1951. The second son of Sonya and Robert Solomon Carson, he
d grown up in the hard climate of the inner city Detroit. Ben had gone through a lot of struggles as a
child, which of course have made him stronger and smarter based on his success today. For instance,
when he was eight years old living with his mother, Sonya, and ten year old brother Curtis he lost

What Obstacles Did Jackie Robinson Face
In 1947, Jackie Robinson was called up to the major leagues by the Dodgers. On April 15, 1947,
Robinson made his debut in the major league at Ebbets Field. There was a crowd of 26,623 spectators,
and more than 14,000 of those spectators were Black. Robinson had officially broken the color line.
He had become the first African American to play in the Major League Baseball in the modern era.
The last time that the color line was openly broken in Major League Baseball was in 1880. This was a
huge deal. African American fans would start attending Dodger games just to see Jackie play. As
amazing as it was to finally have an African American playing in Major League Baseball, there was a
lot of racial criticism that came along with it. Jackie Robinson ... Show more content on

Jackie had a batting average of.296 and had 22 stolen bases for the season. The Dodgers were in first
place in the National League, but they ended up finishing in third. In the 1948 season, more black
players entered the league. This reduced racial pressure on Robinson. The Dodgers acquired three
other black players that season. In the 1949 season, Jackson improved his batting average from .296 to
.342. He received the Silver Bat Award for his superb batting average. Jackie stole 37 bases, had 122
runs, and was second in the league for doubles and triples. He had improved tremendously in the span
of one year. That season he earned the Most Valuable Player Award for the National League. In
addition to his 1949 MVP Award, Robinson was also voted to be the starting second baseman in the
1949 All Star Game. This was a very big deal, because it was the first All Star game to include black

Britney Alone Video Analysis
Anymore it feels as if you re incapable of logging on to your favorite social media platform without
seeing viral videos. There s videos of cats, there s videos of dogs, there s videos of out of control Dr.
Phil guest who get way too much attention for simply misbehaving and acting out. These videos are so
popular because they appeal to every demographic. No one s going to be mad at a cat for walking
around a house on its hind legs. Nor a poodle for doing the same. You re bound to get mad if the
videos that are popping up are dark and barbaric. Regardless a lot of people would rather spend their
days watching these videos versus spending their free time focusing on the troubles of life and the
strategies to overcome them. First we need to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was his first video to go viral and it did so by shocking its audience by the passion he had for
Britney Spears. In the video he spends 5 minutes screaming at the camera about how society holds
Britney to unfair standards and we need to leave her alone. This is accompanied by occasional
sobbing. A similar thing for the Catch Me Outside Girl. She s famous for her blatant disrespect and
overdramatic behavior. However this internet star was smart about her videos popularity. She has now
made her name a brand is making loads of money everyday for simply being an out of control
teenager. The last video Nyan Cat is a video of a pixelated cat, that is also half poptart for some
reason, making repetitive movements to a repetitive song. This video seems very simplistic and
innocent but the shock factor came from the amount of people that watched the video along with how
long the video was. The original video only lasted about for about 3 and a half minutes with about
144,648,119 views. While other versions of this video went on to be 24 hours long with less views
than the original. This videos only success after it s reign of popularity is it success in becoming a
meme.
Not all videos rely on shock factor though. In a away there are many genres of viral videos. There s
satisfy videos, cute videos, scary videos, political videos, and comedy videos. The reason there s a
need for all of these genres is because people want an array of options with it comes to their
entertainment. We live in a stressful, fast paced, high pressured society so if people want to unload
their troubles on soundbites of entertainment let them. There are worst things they could be

The Hero s Journey Bygone Analysis
The writer of bygone and sleepless nights went thrice outside his room, and the afternoon shifted its
colour, hence contradicting his premier wishes, which lay yonder across the tangled bushes and the
green raindrops. Selfish sounds, he said, while his eyes referred to the sky and the earth, thence
deeming insignificant the shoddy time which two guileful hands manipulated three consecutive rounds
in the middle. Thus, he resumed punishing his sagging chest whence this terrible vermin came, or the
crawler which he called the uneducated tune, without hesitation or a rhyme of doubt, filling hence his
drooping entrails with the toxic scum. Therefrom, he could not move ahead; how can you walk in a
tunnel stuffed with your own grime? The life ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The daily train transgressed its quotidian measure, staunched by three or four interruptions where the
clock stopped in a state of complete diligence. Moreover, man holds the reins of galloping time in the
passive hands of reality, or a literary representative and a deputy of an ancient asylum. Nevertheless,
this friend, who departed his body and freed himself from the impeding extremities, spoke to him. Go
back, he said, the end of this road resembles its beginning, and the friend listened to his voice.
Although he may not dissemble it, the writer attends various strains in every way he jaunts to the once
deserted land of free men. In public transportation, however, the roads and the cities combine as one
washes his hair in the golden lake, or time grows wintry in the cunning underworld. Therefore, what
journey lies between dark and light? back in the olden rhyme, the apprentice turned to his master and
wondered, as slime filled his cutaneous frame, and he examined the gravid house and the keys they
denied him with two possible recoveries. And, he asked, why the fallen slaves became a multitude of
spurious men who donned themselves with the august and arduous leaves, whereas he saved women,
who ripped the attire of a thousand crows, and the cage fell on a quiescent

The Prostitution Industry Essay
The Prostitution Industry
A prostitute is defined by the Oxford Advanced Learner s Dictionary as a person who offers herself /
himself for sexual intercourse for money. Legally, prostitution is the sale of sexual services. The
services may consist of any sexual acts, including those which do not involve copulation. While
payment may be any nonsexual consideration, most commonly it is in the form of money.
In what seems to be a world historical pattern, an upsurge in prostitution followed the effects of
urbanization and wage labor. In Africa and Latin America this trend was heightened by industrial
development, which greatly accelerated extensive displacement of people from traditional kinship ties.
Women often ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Abolition is a view that prostitution is immoral and prostitutes and their clients should be prosecuted.
This view calls for the complete removal of all prostitution activity within a community, and making
all associated activities illegal in the eyes of the law.
Regulation, on the other hand, allows prostitution to be considered a legitimate business or at least an
unavoidable evil; thus prostitution and empowerment of prostitutes are legal, but regulated in terms of
health, location of practice, etc.
Legalization sees prostitution as a victimless crime and should be made completely legal so that it is
no longer an underground activity, allowing the normal checks and balances of society and existing
laws to apply.
Decriminalization acknowledges that prostitution is inevitable, but exploitative; thus measures should
be put in place to protect prostitutes i.e. laws should target violent pimps and traffickers but not the
prostitutes.
UTILITARIAN VS DEONTOLOGICAL PERSPECTIVES ON PROSTITUTION
Utilitarianism seeks the greatest good for the greatest number of people. They believe that they should
make decisions that result in the greatest total utility, that is, achieve the greatest benefit for all those
affected by a decision. Utilitarian decision making relies on a systematic comparison of the costs and
benefits to all affected parties. (Ferrel et al: 2005, p.98)
In the case of prostitution, a utilitarian would conduct a

thousands of years and will continue to make a large impact for the future of humanity. What exactly

Ratio Analysis of Boeing
The Boeing Company operates in the industry of aerospace and defense. The largest aerospace
company, Boeing is the #2 maker of large commercial jets (behind rival Airbus) and the #2 defense
contractor behind Lockheed Martin. The aerospace and defense industry did suffer the effects of a post
9/11 society. Because of the weakened and fearful tourism market, spending on commercial aircraft
did decrease. But recently, revenues have improved considerably as travelers are becoming more
comfortable with flying again. Defense expenditures are the leading source of revenue for the US
industry. Boeing, despite aerospace spending decreasing, has profited from projects such as the missile

Also, the dividend yield is a very important measure of profitability to investors. The dividend yield
measure shows the rate of return to common stockholders in terms of cash dividends.
The Boeing Company performs very well in terms of ratios. Boeing s earnings per share on common
stock is 2.81. Also, Boeing s price earnings ratio is 33.31 and their dividend yield is 1.4%. Boeing s
stock is currently selling at 93.67. Boeing looks to be a pretty steady stock, as analysts are predicting
that its mean target is 99.83 and its low target is 70, while the high target is 114.
Boeing is a global company, considering it has customers in over 90 countries around the world and is
one of the largest U.S. exporters based on sales. It also has employees in 70 of the countries that it
deals with. Boeing is in a bit of a tough spot with outsourcing considering that they deal with
government defense contracts. They are taking large bounds to really work with their global partners.
Instead of just outsourcing call sources or manufacturing, they are actually outsourcing engineering
and design positions as well. One of Boeing s executives really summed up their goal quite well with
this quote, One of the things we have found [is that] it s best to have the people building the parts
designing the parts, says Michael Bair, Boeing s vice president in charge of the 787 program. It s
arrogant for us to sit here in Seattle

Energy Costs
Energy costs There are various energy sources available in the world today. These are either renewable
sources or non renewable sources. Some of the non renewable sources include coal, oil, and nuclear
fuel while renewable resources are solar energy, wind power, biomass, geothermal wave and tidal
power, hydropower and so on. Cost supply and uncertainty are usually quite asymmetric when it
comes to the energy industry and any other industry in the world. The paper will look at the future of
energy extraction in terms of costs.it will also look at how technological improvement have impacted
energy extraction even in the wake of the depletion of convectional sources. Cost supply and
uncertainty are asymmetrical when it comes to extraction of energy. The cost of energy extraction will
determine the supply. The future of energy extraction is quite uncertain since non renewable energy
sources are slowly being depleted. The future of energy extraction is quite uncertain which means that
the cost and supply are going to be determined by the availability of the energy sources which will be
extracted. The future of extraction of energy is determined by as a result of costs. This is because there
are various techniques which are used in extraction of energy. These techniques used all cost
differently depending on the complexity of the method of extraction that is being used. The
convectional energy sources which are in existence are slowly being depleted. This means that the

Wernicke-Korsakoff Syndrome Research Paper
Abstract Thiamine is an essential vitamin needed by all cells in the body. When the body lacks
thiamine for an extended period of time, many problems arise, mainly in the brain and heart.
Alcoholism and malnourishment are two of the leading causes of thiamine deficiency. Although fairly
rare, Wernicke Korsakoff syndrome (WKS) can be a severe consequence of thiamine shortage. WKS
is a neurodegenerative disease that affects the brain and disrupts the neuronal signaling. Not only does
it make daily life very difficult, it can become life threatening and cause permanent damage. The lack
of thiamine interrupts many biochemical pathways in the body, including the pentose phosphate
pathway, glycolysis, and the Citric Acid cycle. Disrupting these pathways causes WKS to present
along with multiple other complications.
Introduction
WKS is actually a combination of two different diseases. Wernicke s Encephalopathy is the first to
appear. It is a short lived, but life threatening mental condition. It causes ocular disturbances, mental
state variation, and unsteady movements and stance (Thomson, 2009). Wernicke s Encephalopathy is
mainly seen in alcoholics, but has been observed in non alcoholics as well. Korsakoff s syndrome is
the second illness to present. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, if caught early enough, the less likely there will be residual brain damage and memory
impairment. Treatment for WKS is immediate administration of thiamine. Thiamine doses differ from
patient to patient depending on severity of the WKS. Oral thiamine supplements are not effective in
severe cases because of the liver damage and disrupted thiamine metabolism. It usually is
administered intramuscularly. Taking the thiamine may not completely reverse all damage, but can
prevent the progression of the disease. Also, a few lifestyle changes should be made, including a
complete diet and refraining from heavy

  • 3. Descriptive Essay On The Place Of A Restaurant What I thought was another quiet cafe in another quiet town was anything but... As soon as I walked in I could tell that something else was going on with the way everyone stared at me. The only greeting I got was from the dog in desperate need of a bath jumping on me. The tall waitress called something and it jumped off but made sure to stay near.I found a corner booth that seems to have been cleaned in the last 10 years unlike everything else in this place. The only other people desperate enough to eat here was a small family of 3 whose daughter looked like she had just drank 10 cups of coffee and a mother who looked like she hadn t slept in years. While thinking about whether or not I could stomach this place for long enough to eat a full meal the tall brown haired waitress, whose name tag was so old I could barely read it, comes and hands me a worn out menu with half of the food crossed out. I glanced at what I could only assume was a half eaten hamburger sitting on my table and decided against getting that. I finally settled on a piece of apple pie and a water for my evening meal. After waiting for about 30 minutes trying to get the waitress s attention the owner finally walked over. He was dressed to look like he was running a 5 star restaurant. With the money he spent on that suit he could have afforded to knock this place over and rebuild it, or at least buy new wallpaper that didn t look like it had been put up in the 1920s by a blind man. Bradley Fleming Primary Literature Report 1 Neurobiology Biol 572 10/24/2016 Melanopsin Containing Retinal Ganglion Cells: Architecture, Projections, and Intrinsic Photosensitivity S. Hattar, H.W. Liao, M. Takao, D.M. Berson, K.W. Yau 1. What is the objective/hypothesis/question of this study? (1 point) The objective of this study is to investigate the molecular mechanisms responsible for non image forming visual responses, such as the coordination of the biological clock. Because retinal rod and cone cells are not required for non image forming visual responses, the researchers hypothesized that retinal ganglion cells (RGC) may be the light sensitive cells utilized in the non image forming visual response pathway. The researchers also hypothesized that if the RGCs are light sensitive, then the protein melanopsin, which is found on the surface of RGCs, is likely the photopigment that causes RGCs to respond to light. 2. What is the rationale and relevance of the question? (1 point) This study is important because it allows us to better understand the mechanisms that regulate essential biological functions such as pupil control and circadian rhythm. This research is especially relevant to those who suffer from certain disorders that disrupt normal biological responses and functions, such as hypernychthemeral syndrome. Hypernychthemeral syndrome, or Non24, is characterized by delays in tiredness as well as continuous shifts in awareness. Non24 is just one of many circadian ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. How Does Lewis Use Temptation In The Screwtape Letter In The Screwtape Letters by C.S.Lewis, the novel is from the perspective of Screwtape, who is writing letters to his nephew. Screwtape shows clever subtlety in tempting patients to self centeredness in prayers through feelings and images, to gluttony through delicacy, and to pride through membership in an elite Christian social circle. Screwtape uses many, seemingly good, things to manipulate his patients. Lewis uses this as an illustration of how easily humans can fall into temptation. Screwtape uses pride, and intellect as a form of temptation throughout the novel, even while the patient is a Christian. In the beginning, the patient is a hard intellect, which turns him off of Christianity, as it is illogical. However, the patient is eventually converted to faith, yet even then, he is overcome by pride. He is prideful to his intellectual friends, as he is more virtuous than them. Yet, he is also prideful to his Christian friends, since he is obviously the intellectual superior, and has a better grasp on reality. Screwtape suggest using this as a way to pull him away. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Abolition is a view that prostitution is immoral and prostitutes and their clients should be prosecuted. This view calls for the complete removal of all prostitution activity within a community, and making all associated activities illegal in the eyes of the law. Regulation, on the other hand, allows prostitution to be considered a legitimate business or at least an unavoidable evil; thus prostitution and empowerment of prostitutes are legal, but regulated in terms of health, location of practice, etc. Legalization sees prostitution as a victimless crime and should be made completely legal so that it is no longer an underground activity, allowing the normal checks and balances of society and existing laws to apply. Decriminalization acknowledges that prostitution is inevitable, but exploitative; thus measures should be put in place to protect prostitutes i.e. laws should target violent pimps and traffickers but not the prostitutes. • 31. Wernicke-Korsakoff Syndrome Research Paper Abstract Thiamine is an essential vitamin needed by all cells in the body. When the body lacks thiamine for an extended period of time, many problems arise, mainly in the brain and heart. Alcoholism and malnourishment are two of the leading causes of thiamine deficiency. Although fairly rare, Wernicke Korsakoff syndrome (WKS) can be a severe consequence of thiamine shortage. WKS is a neurodegenerative disease that affects the brain and disrupts the neuronal signaling. Not only does it make daily life very difficult, it can become life threatening and cause permanent damage. The lack of thiamine interrupts many biochemical pathways in the body, including the pentose phosphate pathway, glycolysis, and the Citric Acid cycle. Disrupting these pathways causes WKS to present along with multiple other complications. Introduction WKS is actually a combination of two different diseases. Wernicke s Encephalopathy is the first to appear. It is a short lived, but life threatening mental condition. It causes ocular disturbances, mental state variation, and unsteady movements and stance (Thomson, 2009).
