The Effects of Sociocultural Factors on Individuals Essay
Swami Nirmalananda, a disciple of the Indian mystic Ramakrishna, once said Our modern society is
engaged in polishing and decorating the cage in which man is kept imprisoned. Society is seen as a
cage by many because the cultural beliefs that make up the society are what guide the actions and
behaviors of those people within. Sometimes the culture in societies result in helping people develop
successfully and positively, but this is not always the case. For instance, societies that were challenged
by racism during the mid twentieth century were marked by rage and were the causes of some
troublesome lives. In two short stories set during the mid twentieth century, Sonny s Blues, by James
Baldwin and The Man Who Was Almost a Man, by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While Sonny s father was alive, Sonny would often fight with him, and after fighting Sonny just
moves back, inside himself, where he can t be reached (42). Also, after Sonny s mother passed away, it
was only Sonny and his brother; however, the two were separated for a long period of time. Having
support or being cared for by family members is invaluable, but Sonny did not have this and it
ultimately resulted in one of the reasons for his troubled life. In Richard Wright s short story The Man
Who Was Almost a Man the main character, Dave Saunders, also faces a problem which can be
similarly traced to sociocultural factors. While shooting his gun for the first time Dave accidentally
shoots his boss , Mr. Hawkins, mule, and the mule dies. The only reason Dave purchased a gun in the
first place was to prove to the others in society, specifically those who worked alongside him at Mr.
Hawkins plantation, that he was not a boy anymore, but rather a man. While working on Mr. Hawkins
plantation Dave is often humiliated by the older workers because they think [he] ain t nothing but a
boy (878). Also, the narrator states near the end of the story that a group of people that has gathered
around the dead mule on the plantation laughs at Dave as he is walking away with tear filled eyes
(886). Once again this emphasizes that he receives no respect from the others. Mr. Hawkins plantation
is similar to the social environment in Harlem described in Sonny s Blues . Both

Apple Strategic Management
Apple Inc. Analysis Strategic Management
Introduction
Strategic management is the process by which an organization drafts, implements and evaluates cross
functional decisions that enable the organization to achieve its long term objectives. It entails the
process of specifying the mission of the organization, its vision, objectives and the development of the
various strategies to achieve the objectives of the organization. Apple Inc. (Apple) has managed to
create substantial value in the highly competitive personal computer industry, by innovating and
forging a path considerably different from those of the largest competitors in the industry. The

Bill Gates and Microsoft were encouraging Apple to license their OS in the early 1980s, because they
were developing software for Apple and had much riding on the success of the company. When Apple
did not license, Microsoft began developing their operating system, Windows. (Apple Inc. 2010c).
Apple Corporation also operates in the music industry. The company enjoys a dominant market share
in the music industry though competition is tough. According to Jade (2006), though digital music
sales are growing rapidly, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) states that digital
sales of all music are still low. Deutschman (2000) notes that Apple s sales in the music industry
amount to between 66% and 75% of downloads and 80% of music players (Apple, 2005). Apple is
part to a suit alleging monopolistic practices concerning their market share dominance of players and
downloads (Apple Inc. 2010b)
The other players in the download market are (the revised) Napster, Yahoo Music, Rhapsody, and
illegitimate file sharing services among others. Portable music players competing with the iPod
include those made by Creative, Samsung, iRiver, and Sony. A major point of contention between
these services and player manufacturers is the control of a variety of incompatible Digital Rights
Management (DRM) schemes.

Functionalism And The Inverted Spectrum
Imagine walking past a garden with an assortment of flowers. Now close your eyes and take in each
distinguishing familiar smell. As you take a whiff you smell the differences between the roses, lilies,
and even tulips. We can tell the sound of a drum from that of a gong; the touch of cool, smooth marble
as we run our fingers over it distinctively feeling the difference from that of sandpaper. Our everyday
lives are continuous experiences of sensations. These sensations have characteristic qualitative
features, which are called phenomenal , phenomenological or sensory qualities. In philosophical terms
these sensations can be referred to as qualia, which are defined as properties of experiences that type
them in phenomenological respects .
The understanding on the knowledge of other minds has provided a puzzle known as the inverted
spectrum. This possibility has emerged as an important challenge to functionalist accounts of qualia.
Functionalism is committed to defining mental states in terms of their cause and effects . By
identifying sensory events with casual roles, however, functionalism appears to be missing qualitative
aspects all together. The topic of spectrum inversion has often been raised as a contradiction to
functionalism, as well as other materialist theories about consciousness. These negates to
functionalism show that even when all the relevant physical facts are held constant, the facts about
qualia can still vary, hence that the phenomenal must be over

Conductive Hearing Loss In The US
Introduction In the United States, about 48 million people or 20 percent of the population is affected
by hearing loss (Hearing Loss Association of America). According to Cole and Flexer (2008), Hearing
loss is the most common birth defect (p. xi). Approximately 16,000 to 18,000 infants and young
children are diagnosed with hearing loss every year. (Cole Flexer, 2008).
Hearing loss can be classified in three ways based on type: conductive, sensorineural, and mixed.
Conductive hearing loss is when sound is not transmitted from the outer ear to the middle ear in an
effective manner. Examples of a conductive hearing loss include: otitis media, perforation of the
tympanic membrane, impacted cerumen, benign growths, foreign objects, or a maldeveloped or absent
outer ear or middle ear structure. Most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It can be described as unilateral meaning only one ear is affected or bilateral meaning both ears are
affected. Hearing loss can also be classified as symmetrical or asymmetrical. Symmetrical means that
both ears are affected equally while asymmetrical means that the ears are unequal in their level of
hearing loss. Hearing loss can also be broken down into sudden and progressive onset. Hearing loss
can occur over a short period or it can worsen over time. Fluctuating hearing loss changes over time,
and stable hearing loss remains constant. Hearing loss is characterized by degree of severity based on
decibel loss (American Speech Hearing Association). Normal hearing has a decibel loss of 10 to 15.
Slight hearing loss has a decibel loss of 16 to 25. Mild hearing loss has a decibel loss of 26 to 40.
Moderate hearing loss has a decibel loss of 41 to 55. Moderately severe hearing loss has a decibel loss
of 56 to 70. Severe hearing loss has a decibel loss of 71 to 90. Profound hearing loss has a decibel loss
of 90 or greater (Clark,

Question 1: When comparing performance during the first five months of 2004 with performance in
2003, which warehouse shows the most improvement?
St. Louis is the only one showing any improvement, using cost per unit shipped as the performance
criterion. The cost for the first five months of 2003 was $9.97 and for the first five months of 2004, it
fell to $9.07.
Question 2: When comparing performance during the first five months of 2004 with performance in
2003, which warehouse shows the poorest change in performance?
The worst change is the company s own warehouse (located in Fargo), where costs per unit shipped
increased 31%. Among the public warehouses used, Denver was the worst in terms of cost per unit ...

the same proportion in 2004. (1) (2) (3) (4) Warehouse location | % 2003 costs occurring in first five

costs in 2004 (column 3) are calculated by dividing the actual costs for the first five months of 2004
(column 2) by the percent of 2003 costs that occurred in the first five months (column 1). For
example, Atlanta s actual 2004 costs of $40,228 divided by 2003 s 22.88% yields projected 2004 costs
of approximately $175,822.
The projected costs in the last six months of 2004 (column 4) are calculated by subtracting the actual

The Impact Of National Football League And National...
Introduction In Baseball, statistics are in abundance. Unlike the National Football League and the
National Basketball Association, Major League Baseball(MLB) does not have a salary cap. This has
caused a lot of randomness in salaries. The salaries of teams also varies quite a bit as well. From the
data I have used, in 2015, the Los Angeles Dodgers salary was almost five times higher than the
Miami Marlins. What would cause such a disparity? Being a Baltimore Orioles fan and my father
being a New York Yankee fan, we would argue statistics and I usually would have a less than
substantial argument for my beloved Orioles. My father would say 25, implying the number of
pennants the Yankees had. Given this was about eight years ago, I had not taken a statistics class. I
did, without research, argue that the Baltimore Orioles do more with their salary. While thinking of a
regression earlier this semester, I wanted to run a regression of team wins on the city size. My theory
was larger cities meant higher salaries and in turn more wins because of the higher salaries. I ran the
regression and found the results to be very insignificant and had no basis of explaining the wins of a
team. A recent outcome in Baseball, blew my theory out of the water. The Kansas City Royals play in
the third smallest market according to metropolitan size.(1) The Royals are also 13th on a list of
highest salaries in the MLB.(3) The Royals won the 2015 World Series. There is a lot of randomness

19th Century Transcendentalism
During the 19th and 20th century, the arts played a major role in helping society move toward social
and political changes. Most of the writers, and other influential people during this time used the arts to
emphasis the importance of the current problems that needed dire change. This included literature
used by the transcendentalists, slavery abolitionists, and even in the Harlem Renaissance and more.
During the early 19th century transcendentalists writers such as Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry
David Thoreau questioned the doctrines of established churches and the business practices of the
merchant class. Most of what the transcendentalists were writing about included the need for social
changes. Ralph Waldo Emerson, one of the best known ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Books written about slavery and its cruelty brought more concern to people regarding the real issue
with slavery. The most influential book of its day was a novel about the conflict between an enslaved
man named Tom and the brutal white slave owner Simon Legree. The publication of Uncle Tom s
Cabin in 1852, by the northern writer Harriet Beecher Stowe moved a generation of Northerners as
well as many Europeans to regard slave owners as monstrously cruel and inhuman. However, in
response Southerners, condemned these truths and claimed it was just proof of the prejudice
northerners had against the southern way of life. In addition, Hinton R. Helper s book of nonfiction,
Impending Crisis of the South, attacked slavery at another angle. The author used statistics to
demonstrate to fellow Southerners that slavery weakened the South s economy. In response many
southern states moved to ban the book but it had already been in wide distribution. In addition, to
counter the attack that slavery was evil, pro slavery southern whites argued that slavery was just the
opposite, a positive good for slaves and masters alike. They argued that slavery was sanctioned by the
Bible and was firmly grounded in philosophy and history. Southern writers also contrasted the
conditions of Northern wage workers as wage slaves forced to work long hours in factories and mines
with the familial bond that could develop on plantations between slaves and masters. One of the
southern authors George Fitzhugh questioned the principal of equal rights for unequal men and
attacked the capitalist wage system as worse than slavery. Both the laws passed such as the fugitive
slave law and the antislavery and proslavery literature, polarized the nation even more. Northerners
who had earlier scorned abolition became more concerned about slavery as a moral

Imagery In The Raven
The Poem, The Raven, by Edgar Allen Poe, is a timeless, and one of the most read, poems in history.
It gives the readers a sense of fear, sadness, and excitement all at the same time. One of the ways that
Poe stimulates the readers emotions is how he uses and symbolizes the Raven in the story. Throughout
history, birds have symbolized hope, light, and freedom. Birds such as an Eagle, who symbolizes
freedom and pride, or a dove that represents peace and love, show how birds bring a sense of good to
a story. Although, I think the Raven brings a sense of sorrow, or loneliness to the story.
In the Raven it states,

In the beginning of the story, the narrator speaks of his lost love, Lenore, and says how he is distraught
over her passing. Succeeding this moment of sorrow, he hears a rapping on his chamber door ( Poe 4)
which causes him to be curious who would be knocking at his chamber door at such an hour. He is
filled with both hope, for the return of his lost Lenore, and terror for whatever he could dream was at
his door. Then in came the raven and perched himself atop his chamber door on top of a statue of the
Greek goddess Athena, who is the goddess of wisdom. For the symbolism of the raven, the narrator
sees the raven as grim, ghastly, and ominous, but gives a new sense of curiosity to the narrator. The
symbolism of a raven is the engaging in mystical and magical arts and gaining and receiving secret
knowledge. Knowing this, it shows how the narrator would be both frightened, and fascinated at the
presence of a mystical bird on his chamber door. Also the statue of Athena symbolizes the wisdom of
the raven to perch on top of it and also adds to the mysterious side of the creature. But there could also
be other reasons why the raven could seem scary and

Partition Action Research Paper
d. The Parties to a Partition Action
The parties that must be included in a petition to partition are every joint tenant or tenant in common
who holds an interest in the property, and their spouses. Life tenants, judgment creditors, mortgage
holders, and other lien creditors should also be brought into the proceeding, even though they are not
required parties.
A life tenant in the property may join in the partition proceeding and upon a partition sale will receive
the fair market value of his or her interest. This sum will be paid either in an annual amount or a lump
sum paid out of the proceeds, based on a value of the share of interest in the land calculated in relation
to his or her estimated life expectancy.
Joint tenants or tenants in common may still obtain partition, in kind or by sale, even with the
existence of a lien. If an actual partition is successful, any existing liens will follow the share allocated
to the co tenant who is the debtor and the other tenants will be able to hold their interest
unencumbered by the previously applied liens. If the partition occurs by forced judicial sale then the
purchaser will take the property subject to the liens. The better practice is to make creditors,

community a better place for everyone. I have been playing this game for 7 years and this is my 6th
year being involved in the hcf community. I have seen much bias, discrimination, and overall hate
towards people just because they are not known enough. But in my eyes, everyone within the hcf
community is an equal, and should be treated like one. This means giving second chances for
improvement or change if requested, banning a famous player even though I may get hate, or even just
moving people in teamspeak evenly, to be sure no one gets upset. I strive to provide the best playing
experience possible for any player regardless of his or hers ranking within the community. If our
players are happy, than I am happy. I will make sure that each player who joins the network will be
met with kind words and best regards. I plan to help as many people possible through simple actions
such as answering a question in chat, or providing additional information even though it may take a
longer amount of time to complete. I ve learned over my many years that if you provide a unique
experience for any and all players, those players on the network will always log out at the end of the
day with a smile on their face. I believe

Designing A Control Strategy With Variable Operating...
The objective of the proposed internship can be divided into the following sub objectives 1) develop a
control strategy with variable operating switching frequency to dynamically control current ripple and
reduce system losses, and 2) develop a current control strategy to improve dynamic response for the
two level inverter fed PMSM drive; while taking into account the effect of different operating regions
and drive design parameters. More specifically the following tasks will be accomplished for each sub
objective:
1) Define the design parameters of the two level inverter for the PMSM
2) Investigate the drive control strategies most suitable for the TM4 system
3) Assessing the constraints on the drive control strategies by the design parameters
4) Studying the theoretical and practical constraints on the control strategy of the drive
5) Assessing how the variation of design variables impacts the characteristics of the control strategies
6) Define and establish appropriate control strategies to meet requirements as demanded by the TM4
7) Validate the proposed control strategies over a wide operating range of the drive, for steady state
and transient operation.
8) Representing the strategies in the form a simulation control block, to be made readily available for
TM4 to use in their drive and providing a final report.

The Movie Donnie Darko By Richard Kelly
Donnie Darko follows a mentally troubled teenage boy after his family survives a jet engine falling on
their home. Throughout the film, a delusional Donnie encounters a talking rabbit and eventually
discovers that he has been living in a parallel universe since his near death experience. To escape this
alternate timeline and save his mother and sister who are on the ill fated plane, Donnie realizes that he
must be killed by the engine and allows himself to die in the accident. The film has strong themes of
time travel and the future, much like Lee Edelman s The Future is Kid Stuff. Through his idea of
reproductive futurism, Edelman hypothesizes that the Child is the future and states that everything we
do has the ultimate goal of protecting the future. Edelman also believes that queers will not survive in
the future because they are unable to reproduce. The film Donnie Darko, directed by Richard Kelly,
challenges society s unrealistic expectations of a perfect nuclear family by juxtaposing a queer Donnie
with his heteronormative sister Samantha. When considered in the context of Lee Edelman s The
Future is Kid Stuff, this stark contrast confirms the theory of reproductive futurism and explains the
ending of the movie in which Donnie sacrifices his life so that his sister can survive.
By exposing the flaws in the seemingly perfect Darko family, the film challenges its viewers idea of
what a perfect nuclear family is while creating a substantial difference between the future

Do Video Games Help Students Essay
Do video games help students in the classroom? This is a question that I have been pondering about
because I am part of a group of about 150 million Americans that play video games. Alicia Ault, an
author of a video gaming and learning article wrote that the biggest converts to video games are
educators, who are using them to teach such subjects as history, geography, science and math and to
hone students critical thinking abilities (Ault). According to a Pew Internet American Life Project
survey, half of the experts surveyed predicted that gamification, or the use of games by educators and
companies to turn work into a game, would become a major factor in education, health care and the
workplace by 2020 (Pew Research Center). I believe that this gamification going on throughout
schools could help student learn. Elizabeth Box, a civics teacher in a Florida middle school, started
noticing a decline in kids engagement. They didn t care, their parents didn t care, and they were
failing. Box knew that she needed to do something in order to make them study again. So, she
researched online and found a blog called Teched up Teacher by Chris Aviles that made her class into
a video game. Her classroom went from a 30 percent assignment completion rate to 100 percent. In
the end, all of her students get their work done, everyone logs in outside of school, and every single
one is passing her civics class. This shows that gaming is helping out teachers complete their tasks of

Old Washington Historic State Park Analysis
You may be looking for the perfect spot for a summer vacation for your family. If so, Arkansas has
fifty two state parks that offer a variety of recreation and entertainment options. These state parks play
a vital role in the historical education of our great state. A few of the options include; visiting a
prehistoric Indian mound, digging for diamonds, viewing Civil War battle grounds, or just enjoying
the many great outdoor adventures. Although there are many options, one of my favorite places to
visit has always been Old Washington Historic State Park.
This park is located in Hempstead County in Southwest Arkansas. It offers visitors a view into the
state s early history. It was a stopping point along the Southwest Trail, which was

Introduction The 20th century saw Malaysia undergoing numerous political, social and economical
changes, all of which were reflected in the cultural changes that also took place during this time. In
particular, Malay music in Malaysia, due to a myriad of factors and influences, experienced significant

Instead of the monotonous drum beats of the Rebana Ubi, modern synthesizers have been included in
accompaniment to the traditional gamelan and drums. The Rise of Malay Popular Music Before the
1920s, the pop music scene in Malaysia was almost non existent. Malaysia s pop music scene
developed from traditional Asli (pure) music, which was popularized in the 1920s by bangsawan
musicians.
The period between 1965 and 1971 was termed the Era of Pop Yeh Yeh. Colonisation led to the
introduction of bands like The Beatles and The Shadows which exerted great influence, as evidenced
by how many local singers started emulating Western pop stars. Rocky Teoh was known as the Elvis
of Malaysia and several women called themselves the local Connie Francis. Later, other Malaysians
would aspire to emulate Tom Jones, Bob Marley and other foreign entertainers.
The first local song in this genre was M. Osman s 1964 hit Suzanna , which was soon followed by
dozens of others. The Pop Yeh Yeh stars sold thousands of records and dominated the music scene in
Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei throughout the 1960s. Many sang only in Malay. Music in this era
was more Western sounding than much of the earlier Malay pop music. During this era, western
popular music was heard increasingly on the radio, spreading the western pop culture to even the rural
villages.

My Role As An Educator
Throughout this term, we have learned various models of teaching such as: Reggio Emilia,
Montessori, Waldorf, Forest, HighScope and Head Start. My role as an educator is to implement a
variety of learning strategies taught to me. As I learned about each models of teaching, I still hold my
bias towards the Reggio Emilia Approach, but I also like some aspect of the HighScope curriculum. In
my personal philosophy, I will talk about what I believe to be an image of a child and role of an
educator. For instance, I believe that every child is unique in their own individual way. They are
viewed as being naturally curious about the environment around them, are full of knowledge,
creativity and have potential that they want connect to the world around them by exploring freely.
Children learn best through playing and exploring the environment around them freely. There is
nothing better that to get acquainted with nature and exploring real life experiences. As an educator,
we have to recognize the child as a whole and base our curriculum according to their needs. For
example, setting up a rich environment where the child can explore, learn, and grown at his or her own
pace of developmental level. Thus, I agree with Reggio Emilia Approach, that children should be
given rights and opportunities to develop to their full potential. They view the child as beautiful,
powerful, competent, creative, curious, full of potential and ambitious desires that interested in

The Problem Of Water Conservation
Water is very important in everyone s daily lives. They need it to shower, brush their teeth, cook,
taking care of the landscapes, and most importantly to live. Water is everywhere but as some people
say it will soon become scarce due to the fact people are being very wasteful with it. Water
conservation is a big topic in the United States when it comes to California, a state known for their
droughts. It seems like every years there is always something on the news headlines talking about a
drought in California. Conserving water would obviously become an even bigger deal if we lived in
California instead of the Midwest. Obviously the topic of water conservation is still a big topic in the
Midwest because as a nation, people are wasteful and taking having water for granted in our everyday
lives. Although scientists and astronomers are learning how they can get water from comets and
asteroids if planet Earth were to run out of water one day it is still in the experimental phase and is not
a for sure thing on Earth. For the time being, instead of wasting the water, in people s everyday life s
they can help reduce the risk of water going completely extinct by understanding how the water is
going to waste, solutions to saving water, and being smart when dealing with landscaping.
People say that the Earth is running short on water but never seem to point out that there are some
backup plans that are being put into action and tested out currently by scientist. When people think

Napoleon s And His Life
NAPOLEON Napoleon Bonaparte was a merciless and selfish individual whose only thrive was to
conquered his egotistical heart. He gave up an ordinary life to serve his country and his desires to be at
the top of world. His desires to conquer and power unraveled a history that will last a lifetime.
The infamous Napoleon Bonaparte was born in August 15, 1769, he was the second of eight children,
on the newly added island of Corsica. Great Britain s instability was feeling the beginning of a
revolution. During this time a young and pale Napoleon was quickly maturing. He was a careless but
disciplined young man who would not care if he had friends or ate alone. Often, he would only speak
to officers and to those who seemed ignorant of the law. At the age of fourteen he decided to pursue a
military career and later his father would pave his way into a French military academy. Napoleon
worked very hard to educate himself, and at being a disciplined man. Young Bonaparte was not liked
amongst his fellow comrades as he looked and acted weird.
The French Revolution was the opportunity young Napoleon had been looking for to rise in the
French Army. It was nothing but chaos and weakness in Europe that gave Napoleon the opportunity
that first came to him. He only looked at France as a source of a ladder to the top. Napoleon careless
of democracy or even religion made every attempt to always outsmart others. France declares war on
Britain, Spain, and Holland in February, 1793.

custodian. James Leeds s perspective on his job s objective is challenged and Sarah Norman fights her
past s torments. James and Sarah start a romance wrought with arguments and misunderstandings. As
their bond progresses, James learns what it means to be deaf. James Leeds is a speech pathologist who
has worked in multiple top rated schools. In his classes, he tries to encourage his students to speak

a hearing society, deaf people must be able to speak. James is an excited, encouraging teacher to his
pupils. He listens to music and other activities to make it easier for his students to speak (Children of a
Lesser God). With other students in his school, he encourages them to speak even if it is profanities
toward him. James is an active, positive teacher. He spends one on one time with his students and
plays basketball and other games with them (Children of a Lesser God). Although James wants what
he thinks is best for his students, Sarah Norman teaches him not everyone wants to speak aloud. Sarah
interests James because, although she has graduated, she remains a silent custodian (Children of a

Analysis Of Mihayao Spirited Away By Miyazaki Hayao...
In a traditional or typical family, it is always understood that children are meant to and able to rely on
their parents for both safety and emotional support. In the film by Miyazaki Hayao Spirited Away, we
observe a family far from the traditional sense of the word. Much of this film is about a young ten year
old girl who is forced to save herself and her parents from being forever stuck in a world separate of
their own. The relationships she loses and gains form her into a different person than who she is in the
beginning of the film. Susan Napier asserts in her book Anime from Akira to Howl s Moving Castle
Chihiro is a bratty child with parents who seem to be detached with her and as we see in the film
selfish and indulgent in their own desires (181). These factors all contribute to the development and
relationships of Chihiro in the film as well as the idea of family. At the beginning of the film as
Chihiro and her parents are driving to their new home in the countryside, we are introduced to the type
of relationships and personality of the family members. Napier describes her parents as disconnected
from each other and their daughter and Chihiro as a whiny, sullen, and self obsessed child (181). Right
off the bat we are able to see a significant difference in what a family is considered to be and how it is
represented in the film. As mentioned before a family is meant to care for each other and parents are
meant to care for their children especially, however perhaps because of these circumstances we are led
on the journey of Chihiro s evolution from that of a spoiled child to a braver and assertive child. Upon
getting lost in the forest by taking a shortcut, the father decides instead of trying to find their way back
to the road, on exploring the mysterious tunnel and the mother follows, telling Chihiro to stay in the
car while they go off to see what is on the other end.
Already we see how different the role of the father is portrayed as someone who thinks of his own
desires and being before that of his wife or daughter. In the traditional role of a father, he is the person
who is the protector of his family and as such he is meant to put his family first. It is pointed out in
Napier s book

An Investigation of Customization in ERP System...
IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON ENGINEERING MANAGEMENT, VOL. 56, NO. 4, NOVEMBER
2009 663 An Investigation of Customization in ERP System Implementations Marcus A. Rothenberger
and Mark Srite Abstract This research investigates why certain enterprise resource planning (ERP)
system adopters have pursued high levels of software customization during implementation despite
the generally accepted best practice heuristic of limiting customization. Qualitative data from ERP
adoption projects and consultants working with ERP implementations have been collected. This study
empirically identifies customization drivers and explains their relationship to customization. The
results suggest that high customization may occur because of: unnecessary ... Show more content on

Such decisions address the dilemma that all ERP adopters continuously face during the
implementation: whether to change the business process to fit the ERP system or whether to change
the ERP system to fit the business process. To minimize customization, the decision to change the ERP
system should only be made in rare circumstances, e.g., when a business process cannot be changed
without losing a competitive advantage. Furthermore, such decisions require cooperation between the
information technology (IT) and the operational departments, following formal defined activities,
which are part of a change management process. Thus, change management is instrumental to ERP
implementation. In fact, it was listed as one of the top five factors in a study of chief information
officer (CIO) perceptions of critical success factors for ERP projects [17]. The analysis of two
implementation cases [7] confirms this notion as it identifies change management as one of the major
success factors. The issue of management and employee readiness to implementing business process
change is a common characteristic of successful implementations. In a case study of a failed SAP R/3
implementation [13], the absence of change management inhibited the broad involvement of
employees in the implementation of business changes required for the successful adoption of the ERP
system standard processes. The importance of business process reengineering and minimal
customization was further confirmed

Salvador Late or Early includes figurative language all throughout the short story. For example,
Salvador with eyes the color of caterpillar, (Paragraph 1, Line 1) is a metaphor suggesting
metamorphosis and even though he is a caterpillar stuck inside its cocoon, he will soon become a
beautiful, graceful butterfly. This metaphor gives rise to the artistic voice and thematic meaning
because the message this short story is trying to send is that no matter how worthless one may feel and
if they think that they ll never have enough power to hatch out of their cocoon, in the end, they will
always become the beautiful, graceful butterfly they were all along. Another example of figurative
language in Salvador Late or Early is a metaphor in paragraph 2: Arturito has dropped the cigar box of
crayons, has let go the hundred little fingers of red, green, yellow, blue, and nub of black sticks that
tumble and spill over and beyond the asphalt puddles... This symbolizes a rainbow after a storm, and
the deeper meaning behind this symbolism is that although Salvador is caught in the middle of a brutal
storm, the sun will soon come out and he will find a rainbow. One example of figurative language in
Eleven is when Rachel uses similes such as Because the way you grow old is kind of like an onion or
like the rings inside a tree trunk or like my little

Gerhard Richer (1932~) is a German artist who is unique for not conforming to a particular movement
or having his own artistic style. However, his works have been influenced by many art movements and
styles, including Abstract Expressionism, Pop art, Minimalism, and Conceptualism. He was trained to
paint a traditional realist art style in early years under the oppressive East German communist regime,
banned from exposure to American Pop art and other contemporary art (1). Thus he often explored
figurative expression or representation of subjects, until his exposure to abstract art in West Germany

There are a couple of elements that set his painting apart from Friedrich s; that it has a surrealist
element, and that Richter values the characteristics of modern art, meaning that the artwork does not
focus on how to most imitate a subject most faithfully ( realistically ) but to capture the essence of it.
The surrealist element in particular is significant when placed side by side with the traditional style of
landscape painting, because his choice not to completely disassociate it with the orthodox is what
allows it to emphasize the surreality of the piece (4). It is also set apart from romantic paintings by
nature s indifference . The artwork has a lack of sympathy for the viewer s search for something to
relate or connect to in the painting which links to its function and purpose. Sea Sea is are particularly
significant work for being a sort of stepping stone for Richter. On one hand, we see how his
background of being trained to paint in a traditionalist realistic painting style has influenced his
photorealistic style, but on the other, his desire to move into a more expressive form of art as the
discomfiting element and the inhuman detachment of Sea Sea

Environmental Issues Of Climate Change
Climate change refers to any changes in climatic conditions, for example, temperature, precipitation
and wind patterns, which last for at least great amount decades. Before the Industrial Revolution,
which took a place in the mid 18th century, climate change was mostly because of natural reasons
such as changes in the sun s activity and volcanic eruption. nevertheless, recent climate change is
extensively attributed to human activities, since the mid 20th century to change climate change worse.
All of these are putting the lives facing the threaten and need to be dealt with as soon as possible. Any

The problem of climate change can be alleviated by three different levels, namely the individual level
and the social level. Many people put forward the idea that individuals can do little to tackle the

Comparing Hubris In Frankenstein And The Picture Of Dorian...
Hubris is clearly prominent in both novels and a major theme in gothic literature. Dorian Gray is a
novel obsessed with the aesthetic movement, Wilde clearly criticising the upper class Victorian desire
when Dorian exclaims: If it were I who was to be always young... (Ch.2. 29) Modern readers are able
to relate to this desire in a social media obsessed world where arguably beauty can be powerful. The
novel with hidden meaning beneath relates to Wilde s own need for discretion in life trying to conceal
his own homosexuality from the preying public eye. Thus possibly Wilde is trying to present the idea
that it is society s evil that turns the innocent into the corrupt, Dorian not being strong or

Yet different to The Picture of Dorian Grey, in the modern era the moral behind Frankenstein is

The only innocent character in Frankenstein is arguably Walton he narrating the novel in epistolary

reflects the distance of the characters, both Victor and the monster isolated from the people and the

only long enough so that they can have the money to make a down payment on the house they look to
own. Sadly, their shared dreams are crushed when Lennie accidentally kills the wife of another ranch

The Importance Of Slaves In The New England Colonies
I first went to Hartford in Connecticut. It was in the New England Colonies. It first seemed pretty
good, because they didn t really have slaves. Which I was surprised about. They apparently think that
hiring workers cost less than owning slaves, so they hired a lot of workers instead. My husband also
thinks it s a bit weird, but I guess we agree with them. I also learned that the New England colonies
had the best public schooling. The children were like required to go to school, which I definitely want
my son to go to one day. I think that my son would also like all the games they played there, like
stoolball and tag, but playing cards was forbidden. This would be really hard, though, because back in
England, we loved playing cards. I think living there might be a bit hard though. As I have seen,
cooking is very dangerous and the meals are kind of repetitive. The iron pots can burn you really
easily and the scared of burning my back. Another reason I don t really want to live in the New
England Colonies is because many people die for denying the true god or cursing at your parents. I
think that I am fine with John saying crap, but I do not want him to die because of it. He could totally
get punished, but definitely not death. I think that overall I really liked the fact that the New England
colonies didn t really like slaves and that they had some of the best public schooling, but it did have
some factors I didn t like, like the fact that my son could die for saying a bad

The World Trade Organization And Its Predecessor The...
Over the course of its history, the World Trade Organization (and its predecessor the General
Agreement on Tariffs and Trade) has aimed to liberalise trade throughout the globe. While
accomplishing such a task is no easy matter, the WTO has managed to successfully implement a
number of agreements over the course of 67 years towards such a goal. Recently though, the WTO
seems to have stalled in producing successful agreements. The latest round of such agreements,
dubbed the Doha Development Round, has been in development for nearly 15 years now with little to
show for it. Why is it then that the WTO, an organization that has managed to successfully agree on
eight previous rounds, been stuck for so long?
The World Trade Organization largely accomplishes its agenda through rounds : negotiation rounds
between all members that largely focus on specific agendas with the aim to create guidelines and rules
that promote global trade. Historically, the WTO (and the GATT) have seen eight rounds thus far (nine
if counting the current Doha round), with each producing an universally agreed on agreement. The
first round of such, taking place in 1947, is what actually brought about the GATT and focused largely
on tariff controls. The subsequent four rounds, occurring in 1949, 1951, 1956, and 1960, each also
focused on tariffs controls. Such negotiations largely took place because of the quickly changing
world playing field and as new members joined onto the GATT. It wasn t until the mid

Gallipoli Research Paper
The average Indian is almost ignorant about Gallipoli as a campaign in World War I, retired Indian Air
Force wing commander Rana Chhina said in a 2015 ABC article. The average Australian however,
may think they have learnt every last detail of the campaign before they ve even graduated high
school. When one thinks of the ANZAC legend, they think of thousands of strapping, fit, young, white
lads going off to the war to fight for King and country. Seldom does one think of the 15,000 Indian
men fighting alongside those. Neither does one contemplate just how much... nor perhaps how little
the ANZAC legend means to the Indian population in Australia because of this disregard. It is
unthinkable to even consider that despite the Indian military force s ... Show more content on

Professor Stanley claims that the number was in excess of 15,000 in his new book. Those numbers are
comparable to the 20,000 ANZAC soldiers who fought at Gallipoli. According to updated records at
the Australian War Memorial, 8,159 Australian and New Zealand combatants perished. Together with
them, approximately 10% of the serving Indian militia also died, 3,500 wounded. And yet, Mr. Chhina
says that the only recognition in India of the 15,000 that fought and 1,500 that died is but a small
plaque at a hospital in Ferozepur. It is no surprise that all that the Indian militants had done is not near
to common knowledge. Indian born migrants are the 4th largest immigrant population in Australia,
making up 2.13% of the whole Australian population, sitting at 295,000 people. They are the fastest
growing migrant population, increasing by 17% every

The Devil And Tom Walker Archetypes
History has a way of repeating itself, and it does so in many different ways, ranging from ideas to
actions to even global events. Enter the idea of archetypes. Archetypes are inferred plots in texts that
appear in literature and stories throughout history. The archetype being discussed in this essay would
be, selling one s soul to the devil. In this archetype, a character trades something irreplaceable to them
in exchange for something they greatly desire that is temporary, and generally, the character that
makes the deal usually learns it was a bad idea. This can be witnessed in the text, The Devil and Tom
Walker by Washington Irving, the movie A Raisin in the Sun directed by John M. Eckert, and the
movie Star Wars Episode III: Revenge ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He stumbles upon a Black Man, and to peak his interest the Black Man, told him of great sums of
money buried by Kidd the pirate under the oak trees on the high ridge, not far from the morass (Irving
156). This shows the offer made by the Devil . Later, after Tom s wife had disappeared in search of the
Black Man, Tom went after her noticing she took all the valuables with her. He happened upon the
Black Man once more and the devil offered him the treasure in exchange for him using it to become a
usurer. The exchange was brief and the deal was closed with a handshake and an ecstatic uttering of
the simple word, Done (159). Tom got the wealth he wanted. But he knew that he would end up
spending the rest of eternity serving the devil so he became a violent churchgoer. One day, Tom was
foreclosing a mortgage, and when he grew tiresome of the man stating he made too much money off
of him Tom stated, The devil take me, if I have made a farthing! (160). Thus Tom got his wish and the
devil took him never to be seen again. This shows how the deal ended poorly for Tom and
demonstrates the final point of the

The Communist Manifesto By Karl Marx And Friedrich Engels
The Communist Manifesto was written by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels to begin explaining
Communism and its goals. The Manifesto suggests that history acts according to what is called class
struggle. The means of production are what truly defines the class relationships according to Marx and
Engels (Marx 2002). Inevitably, the classes conflict and become hostile, no longer moving fluidly
(Spalding 2000). The Manifesto states that this conflict becomes so severe that it eventually becomes
a revolution and one of the classes becomes the ruler of the other, keeping one oppressed while the
other flourishes. These two classes by name are the bourgeoisie and the proletariat (Marx ch.2 2002).
The bourgeoisie being the highly upper class and the proletariat being everyone else or the working
class . It is important to note that Karl Marx was a member of the bourgeoisie himself. He had the
ability to recognize the partiality given to the upper class and the repercussions of this act (Marx
2002).
According to this manifesto, the dynamic between the two has shaped the way society has industry
where its values originate. Before this, it was traditionally so that society was organized into more
complex hierarchies (Spalding 2000). But, as a result of the French Revolution, feudalism was
replaced by this newer sense of class order. Instead of having a variety of classes such as nobles,
artisans, royalty etc., there were now simply two. There was now a severe demand for more

Youtube Case Analysis
Fun, creative, motivational, and humorous, private and homemade videos were where YouTube really
shined during the previous decade. Anyone with a computer, camera, and video editing software had
an outlet to show their creative works for fun or presentation, with little restriction besides time and
data limits, or certain language and content, to keep the creative environment friendly and legal. The
addition of advertisement came along with channels becoming more and more popular, acquiring large
followings, yet did not present any more restrictions to the video sharing site. However, in the recent
years, this past decade, YouTube has began to partner with artists and content creators in order to
crack down on the usage of some content, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Breaking it down, the argument for removing or blocking music use in videos is that it hampers the
ability of the artist to make money, since there is the ability to rip music from videos, thus providing a
free source of music. This is proposed by Andy Smith is an insight column on copyrighted material.

that of other users, ...it s not true that you can legally use the first 30 seconds of any song in your

factors, the three most relevant considerations are commercial vs. non commercial use, portion of
material used, and effecting the material owner s ability to make money. Eliminating the full usage of
music is what YouTube uses to justify these regulations on video making. However, these YouTube
users have stated that even 30 seconds is enough to trigger YouTube algorithms and block or silence
the video. This does not seem to violate any of the three relevant regulations. YouTube video creators
and homemade videos could still maintain their creativeness and non monetary entertainment

Narrative Essay On Irish Dance
Day 6: I was served a traditional Irish breakfast this morning, and aside from the puddings (which
weren t too bad), it was similar to a traditional breakfast I get at home. After breakfast, we boarded the
bus and headed for Glenveagh Castle. The castle itself was beautiful, from the elaborate interiors, to
the stunning gardens and trails, and the gorgeous scenery. The castle even has a curse attached to it,
showing how Irish culture is fond of myths and superstitions. After we left the castle, we went back to
the community center for lessons in Irish culture and dance. Although it is not the most common
spoken language in Ireland, Gaelic, is the national language of Ireland. Having their own national
language would promote nationalism within the country, giving the people something of their own that
wasn t established when Brittan took over. I was as good at learning Gaelic as I was with Spanish,
terrible, after the session all I could remember was how to ask for a pint and how to ask for food. Out
of the two sessions, I was far better at the Irish dancing. The session itself was one of the most fun
things I did in Ireland, learning the various dances and the meaning behind them. Irish dancing, like
Gaelic, is very important to the Irish people, even our language instructor know some of the Irish
dances. That was not the only place that I saw Irish dancing, it was common at pubs when bands were
playing and even people in the crowds joined in. The Irish dancing itself is

Reinhold Niebhur s Views On Original Sin
Reinhold Niebhur s views on Original sin fall in line with my own actually; I do believe that man is
inherently evil with power to do good. As much of a blessing that free will is, I believe it to also be a
curse because nothing good comes free. With the freedom to make our decisions comes the
responsibilty to not only know but also to understand the effects of them. Every action has a reaction,
and sin is the reaction to free will. Niebuhr holds that man is responsible for his unintentional sins,
even if there was no malice. Niebuhr argues through Pauline teachings that sin is essential; especially
with man s tendency for self glorification. Pauline teachings indicate that human sin is an inevitable
defect derived from the sin of the first man . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is easily seen because humans are faulty beings, who often fall into error even with good
intentions. Our faulty minds and free will can easily fll prey deception and misinterpretation of what
we think we saw with ignorance and imagination filling the gaps, and no matter what level of mental
fortitude, sense of morality, or innate holiness man possesses. Man still falls subject to deception. If
our minds, which are factors in our free will, can be subjected to manipulation, it is not bizarre to
claim that man sins unintentionally and is responsible to correct its actions.
Man s biggest flaw is its weakness in the face of temptation because temptation also lies in its heart.
Man s free will is inherently corrupted by the temptations of life and the world. While free will pushed
man s creativity to what seems to be a limitless boundary, it has also played a part in man s own
undoing. Man s undoing lies in their ego and desire for self gratification and self glorification. They
constantly strive to expand their presence and knowledge so much so that it seems to know no bounds.
However even with man s ambition it is all subject to God s

Similarities Between China And America
The United States of America and China have a rough relationship, but it is clear to anyone that they
are the two biggest superpowers in the world. These two countries have the highest GDP (gross
domestic product) out of any other country, and they are both very influential over other countries,
making them the two largest powers in the world. Being two major powerhouses, the two countries
have many similarities, and after taking a closer look at the geography, people, and history of the two
countries, it becomes evident that there are many differences as well. The geography of the United
States varies in many ways. Being the third largest country in the world, at 3,717,727 square miles, the
U.S. has lots of space for different types of land. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
China has a population more than four times the size of the U.S., and is the most populated country in
the world with a staggering 1,403,500,365 people. That is almost one seventh of the entire population
of the world. China has had to implement laws that make it so families get taxed more on every child
that they have after their first, to try and get their population down. The population may be much
higher than the U.S., however, the median house income is much lower at just over $10,000. About
half of the population works in manufacturing, and the other half works in the service industry. The
majority of people are some Chinese, although there are many ethnic groups that would all be
considered Chinese, the most common being Han. The next most common race is Mongol, followed
by Korean, Russian, and Uzbek. Unlike the United States, there are two official languages in China,
Mandarin Chinese and Standard Mandarin. Mandarin Chinese is mostly spoken in the north and
southwest parts of the country and Standard Mandarin is mainly spoken everywhere else. The two
most followed religions in China are Buddhism and Taoism. There is also a very large amount of
unaffiliated people in China. China is one of the last remaining communist countries, which plays a
big role as to the reason that China has a poor relationship with the United States. China also has a
legislative, executive, and judicial branch, however they have one

Why Is Chivalry Important
In today s world, there are many examples of chivalry that are not being reflected on. Respect,
bravery, and loyalty, are no longer a focus in today s culture. Many people decline to show these traits.
This starts the topic saying that chivalry is still necessary in today s society. Today, people in Western
society basically have no respect towards others. To have respect, people should never have contempt
for others. As children, people were educated to respect adults and the rules. For this reason, everyone
should always value other people s opinions. People should never stereotype others by what they say
or do. In the article, Respect has Great Importance in Everyday Life by Susie Wilson, she states,

they believe in; no matter what happens to them. In the article, Famous Examples of Bravery A

any fears we might have about our own safety. A great example would be Rosa Parks. Parks was

  • 2. The Effects of Sociocultural Factors on Individuals Essay Swami Nirmalananda, a disciple of the Indian mystic Ramakrishna, once said Our modern society is engaged in polishing and decorating the cage in which man is kept imprisoned. Society is seen as a cage by many because the cultural beliefs that make up the society are what guide the actions and behaviors of those people within. Sometimes the culture in societies result in helping people develop successfully and positively, but this is not always the case. For instance, societies that were challenged by racism during the mid twentieth century were marked by rage and were the causes of some troublesome lives. Also, after Sonny s mother passed away, it was only Sonny and his brother; however, the two were separated for a long period of time. Having support or being cared for by family members is invaluable, but Sonny did not have this and it ultimately resulted in one of the reasons for his troubled life. In Richard Wright s short story The Man Who Was Almost a Man the main character, Dave Saunders, also faces a problem which can be similarly traced to sociocultural factors. While shooting his gun for the first time Dave accidentally shoots his boss , Mr. Hawkins, mule, and the mule dies. The only reason Dave purchased a gun in the first place was to prove to the others in society, specifically those who worked alongside him at Mr. Hawkins plantation, that he was not a boy anymore, but rather a man. While working on Mr. Hawkins plantation Dave is often humiliated by the older workers because they think [he] ain t nothing but a boy (878). Also, the narrator states near the end of the story that a group of people that has gathered around the dead mule on the plantation laughs at Dave as he is walking away with tear filled eyes (886). Once again this emphasizes that he receives no respect from the others. Mr. Hawkins plantation is similar to the social environment in Harlem described in Sonny s Blues . Both ... • 5. Functionalism And The Inverted Spectrum Imagine walking past a garden with an assortment of flowers. Now close your eyes and take in each distinguishing familiar smell. As you take a whiff you smell the differences between the roses, lilies, and even tulips. We can tell the sound of a drum from that of a gong; the touch of cool, smooth marble as we run our fingers over it distinctively feeling the difference from that of sandpaper. Our everyday lives are continuous experiences of sensations. These sensations have characteristic qualitative features, which are called phenomenal , phenomenological or sensory qualities. In philosophical terms these sensations can be referred to as qualia, which are defined as properties of experiences that type them in phenomenological respects . The understanding on the knowledge of other minds has provided a puzzle known as the inverted spectrum. This possibility has emerged as an important challenge to functionalist accounts of qualia. Functionalism is committed to defining mental states in terms of their cause and effects . By identifying sensory events with casual roles, however, functionalism appears to be missing qualitative aspects all together. The topic of spectrum inversion has often been raised as a contradiction to functionalism, as well as other materialist theories about consciousness. These negates to functionalism show that even when all the relevant physical facts are held constant, the facts about qualia can still vary, hence that the phenomenal must be over ... • 8. The Impact Of National Football League And National... Introduction In Baseball, statistics are in abundance. Unlike the National Football League and the National Basketball Association, Major League Baseball(MLB) does not have a salary cap. This has caused a lot of randomness in salaries. The salaries of teams also varies quite a bit as well. From the data I have used, in 2015, the Los Angeles Dodgers salary was almost five times higher than the Miami Marlins. What would cause such a disparity? Being a Baltimore Orioles fan and my father being a New York Yankee fan, we would argue statistics and I usually would have a less than substantial argument for my beloved Orioles. My father would say 25, implying the number of pennants the Yankees had. Given this was about eight years ago, I had not taken a statistics class. I did, without research, argue that the Baltimore Orioles do more with their salary. While thinking of a regression earlier this semester, I wanted to run a regression of team wins on the city size. My theory was larger cities meant higher salaries and in turn more wins because of the higher salaries. I ran the regression and found the results to be very insignificant and had no basis of explaining the wins of a team. A recent outcome in Baseball, blew my theory out of the water. The Kansas City Royals play in the third smallest market according to metropolitan size.(1) The Royals are also 13th on a list of highest salaries in the MLB.(3) The Royals won the 2015 World Series. Most of the writers, and other influential people during this time used the arts to emphasis the importance of the current problems that needed dire change. This included literature used by the transcendentalists, slavery abolitionists, and even in the Harlem Renaissance and more. Books written about slavery and its cruelty brought more concern to people regarding the real issue with slavery. The most influential book of its day was a novel about the conflict between an enslaved man named Tom and the brutal white slave owner Simon Legree. The publication of Uncle Tom s Cabin in 1852, by the northern writer Harriet Beecher Stowe moved a generation of Northerners as well as many Europeans to regard slave owners as monstrously cruel and inhuman. However, in response Southerners, condemned these truths and claimed it was just proof of the prejudice northerners had against the southern way of life. In addition, Hinton R. Helper s book of nonfiction, Impending Crisis of the South, attacked slavery at another angle. The author used statistics to demonstrate to fellow Southerners that slavery weakened the South s economy. In response many southern states moved to ban the book but it had already been in wide distribution. In addition, to counter the attack that slavery was evil, pro slavery southern whites argued that slavery was just the opposite, a positive good for slaves and masters alike. They argued that slavery was sanctioned by the Bible and was firmly grounded in philosophy and history. Southern writers also contrasted the conditions of Northern wage workers as wage slaves forced to work long hours in factories and mines with the familial bond that could develop on plantations between slaves and masters. One of the southern authors George Fitzhugh questioned the principal of equal rights for unequal men and attacked the capitalist wage system as worse than slavery. It gives the readers a sense of fear, sadness, and excitement all at the same time. One of the ways that Poe stimulates the readers emotions is how he uses and symbolizes the Raven in the story. Throughout history, birds have symbolized hope, light, and freedom. Birds such as an Eagle, who symbolizes freedom and pride, or a dove that represents peace and love, show how birds bring a sense of good to a story. In the beginning of the story, the narrator speaks of his lost love, Lenore, and says how he is distraught over her passing. Succeeding this moment of sorrow, he hears a rapping on his chamber door ( Poe 4) which causes him to be curious who would be knocking at his chamber door at such an hour. He is filled with both hope, for the return of his lost Lenore, and terror for whatever he could dream was at his door. Then in came the raven and perched himself atop his chamber door on top of a statue of the Greek goddess Athena, who is the goddess of wisdom. For the symbolism of the raven, the narrator sees the raven as grim, ghastly, and ominous, but gives a new sense of curiosity to the narrator. The symbolism of a raven is the engaging in mystical and magical arts and gaining and receiving secret knowledge. Knowing this, it shows how the narrator would be both frightened, and fascinated at the presence of a mystical bird on his chamber door. Also the statue of Athena symbolizes the wisdom of the raven to perch on top of it and also adds to the mysterious side of the creature. • 20. The Movie Donnie Darko By Richard Kelly Donnie Darko follows a mentally troubled teenage boy after his family survives a jet engine falling on their home. Throughout the film, a delusional Donnie encounters a talking rabbit and eventually discovers that he has been living in a parallel universe since his near death experience. To escape this alternate timeline and save his mother and sister who are on the ill fated plane, Donnie realizes that he must be killed by the engine and allows himself to die in the accident. The film has strong themes of time travel and the future, much like Lee Edelman s The Future is Kid Stuff. Through his idea of reproductive futurism, Edelman hypothesizes that the Child is the future and states that everything we do has the ultimate goal of protecting the future. Edelman also believes that queers will not survive in the future because they are unable to reproduce. The film Donnie Darko, directed by Richard Kelly, challenges society s unrealistic expectations of a perfect nuclear family by juxtaposing a queer Donnie with his heteronormative sister Samantha. When considered in the context of Lee Edelman s The Future is Kid Stuff, this stark contrast confirms the theory of reproductive futurism and explains the ending of the movie in which Donnie sacrifices his life so that his sister can survive. By exposing the flaws in the seemingly perfect Darko family, the film challenges its viewers idea of what a perfect nuclear family is while creating a substantial difference between the future ... • 21. Do Video Games Help Students Essay Do video games help students in the classroom? This is a question that I have been pondering about because I am part of a group of about 150 million Americans that play video games. Alicia Ault, an author of a video gaming and learning article wrote that the biggest converts to video games are educators, who are using them to teach such subjects as history, geography, science and math and to hone students critical thinking abilities (Ault). According to a Pew Internet American Life Project survey, half of the experts surveyed predicted that gamification, or the use of games by educators and companies to turn work into a game, would become a major factor in education, health care and the workplace by 2020 (Pew Research Center). I believe that this gamification going on throughout schools could help student learn. Elizabeth Box, a civics teacher in a Florida middle school, started noticing a decline in kids engagement. They didn t care, their parents didn t care, and they were failing. Box knew that she needed to do something in order to make them study again. So, she researched online and found a blog called Teched up Teacher by Chris Aviles that made her class into a video game. Her classroom went from a 30 percent assignment completion rate to 100 percent. In the end, all of her students get their work done, everyone logs in outside of school, and every single one is passing her civics class. This shows that gaming is helping out teachers complete their tasks of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Rise of Malay Popular Music Before the 1920s, the pop music scene in Malaysia was almost non existent. Malaysia s pop music scene developed from traditional Asli (pure) music, which was popularized in the 1920s by bangsawan musicians. The period between 1965 and 1971 was termed the Era of Pop Yeh Yeh. Colonisation led to the introduction of bands like The Beatles and The Shadows which exerted great influence, as evidenced by how many local singers started emulating Western pop stars. Rocky Teoh was known as the Elvis of Malaysia and several women called themselves the local Connie Francis. Later, other Malaysians would aspire to emulate Tom Jones, Bob Marley and other foreign entertainers. The first local song in this genre was M. The Pop Yeh Yeh stars sold thousands of records and dominated the music scene in Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei throughout the 1960s. Many sang only in Malay. My role as an educator is to implement a variety of learning strategies taught to me. As I learned about each models of teaching, I still hold my bias towards the Reggio Emilia Approach, but I also like some aspect of the HighScope curriculum. In my personal philosophy, I will talk about what I believe to be an image of a child and role of an educator. For instance, I believe that every child is unique in their own individual way. They are viewed as being naturally curious about the environment around them, are full of knowledge, creativity and have potential that they want connect to the world around them by exploring freely. Children learn best through playing and exploring the environment around them freely. There is nothing better that to get acquainted with nature and exploring real life experiences. As an educator, we have to recognize the child as a whole and base our curriculum according to their needs. For example, setting up a rich environment where the child can explore, learn, and grown at his or her own pace of developmental level. Thus, I agree with Reggio Emilia Approach, that children should be given rights and opportunities to develop to their full potential. Water conservation is a big topic in the United States when it comes to California, a state known for their droughts. It seems like every years there is always something on the news headlines talking about a drought in California. Conserving water would obviously become an even bigger deal if we lived in California instead of the Midwest. Obviously the topic of water conservation is still a big topic in the Midwest because as a nation, people are wasteful and taking having water for granted in our everyday lives. Although scientists and astronomers are learning how they can get water from comets and asteroids if planet Earth were to run out of water one day it is still in the experimental phase and is not a for sure thing on Earth. For the time being, instead of wasting the water, in people s everyday life s they can help reduce the risk of water going completely extinct by understanding how the water is going to waste, solutions to saving water, and being smart when dealing with landscaping. • 30. Analysis Of Mihayao Spirited Away By Miyazaki Hayao... In a traditional or typical family, it is always understood that children are meant to and able to rely on their parents for both safety and emotional support. In the film by Miyazaki Hayao Spirited Away, we observe a family far from the traditional sense of the word. Much of this film is about a young ten year old girl who is forced to save herself and her parents from being forever stuck in a world separate of their own. The relationships she loses and gains form her into a different person than who she is in the beginning of the film. Susan Napier asserts in her book Anime from Akira to Howl s Moving Castle Chihiro is a bratty child with parents who seem to be detached with her and as we see in the film selfish and indulgent in their own desires (181). These factors all contribute to the development and relationships of Chihiro in the film as well as the idea of family. At the beginning of the film as Chihiro and her parents are driving to their new home in the countryside, we are introduced to the type of relationships and personality of the family members. Napier describes her parents as disconnected from each other and their daughter and Chihiro as a whiny, sullen, and self obsessed child (181). Right off the bat we are able to see a significant difference in what a family is considered to be and how it is represented in the film. As mentioned before a family is meant to care for each other and parents are meant to care for their children especially, however perhaps because of these circumstances we are led on the journey of Chihiro s evolution from that of a spoiled child to a braver and assertive child. Upon getting lost in the forest by taking a shortcut, the father decides instead of trying to find their way back to the road, on exploring the mysterious tunnel and the mother follows, telling Chihiro to stay in the car while they go off to see what is on the other end. Already we see how different the role of the father is portrayed as someone who thinks of his own desires and being before that of his wife or daughter. In the traditional role of a father, he is the person who is the protector of his family and as such he is meant to put his family first. It is pointed out in Napier s book ... IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON ENGINEERING MANAGEMENT, VOL. 56, NO. 4, NOVEMBER 2009 663 An Investigation of Customization in ERP System Implementations Marcus A. Rothenberger and Mark Srite Abstract This research investigates why certain enterprise resource planning (ERP) system adopters have pursued high levels of software customization during implementation despite the generally accepted best practice heuristic of limiting customization. Qualitative data from ERP adoption projects and consultants working with ERP implementations have been collected. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Such decisions address the dilemma that all ERP adopters continuously face during the implementation: whether to change the business process to fit the ERP system or whether to change the ERP system to fit the business process. To minimize customization, the decision to change the ERP system should only be made in rare circumstances, e.g., when a business process cannot be changed without losing a competitive advantage. Furthermore, such decisions require cooperation between the information technology (IT) and the operational departments, following formal defined activities, which are part of a change management process. Thus, change management is instrumental to ERP implementation. In fact, it was listed as one of the top five factors in a study of chief information officer (CIO) perceptions of critical success factors for ERP projects [17]. The analysis of two implementation cases [7] confirms this notion as it identifies change management as one of the major success factors. The issue of management and employee readiness to implementing business process change is a common characteristic of successful implementations. In a case study of a failed SAP R/3 implementation [13], the absence of change management inhibited the broad involvement of employees in the implementation of business changes required for the successful adoption of the ERP system standard processes. The importance of business process reengineering and minimal customization was further confirmed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Why is it then that the WTO, an organization that has managed to successfully agree on eight previous rounds, been stuck for so long? The World Trade Organization largely accomplishes its agenda through rounds : negotiation rounds between all members that largely focus on specific agendas with the aim to create guidelines and rules that promote global trade. Historically, the WTO (and the GATT) have seen eight rounds thus far (nine if counting the current Doha round), with each producing an universally agreed on agreement. The first round of such, taking place in 1947, is what actually brought about the GATT and focused largely on tariff controls. The subsequent four rounds, occurring in 1949, 1951, 1956, and 1960, each also focused on tariffs controls. Such negotiations largely took place because of the quickly changing world playing field and as new members joined onto the GATT. It wasn t until the mid ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Gallipoli Research Paper The average Indian is almost ignorant about Gallipoli as a campaign in World War I, retired Indian Air Force wing commander Rana Chhina said in a 2015 ABC article. The average Australian however, may think they have learnt every last detail of the campaign before they ve even graduated high school. When one thinks of the ANZAC legend, they think of thousands of strapping, fit, young, white lads going off to the war to fight for King and country. Seldom does one think of the 15,000 Indian men fighting alongside those. Neither does one contemplate just how much... nor perhaps how little the ANZAC legend means to the Indian population in Australia because of this disregard. Professor Stanley claims that the number was in excess of 15,000 in his new book. Those numbers are comparable to the 20,000 ANZAC soldiers who fought at Gallipoli. According to updated records at the Australian War Memorial, 8,159 Australian and New Zealand combatants perished. Together with them, approximately 10% of the serving Indian militia also died, 3,500 wounded. And yet, Mr. Chhina says that the only recognition in India of the 15,000 that fought and 1,500 that died is but a small plaque at a hospital in Ferozepur. It is no surprise that all that the Indian militants had done is not near to common knowledge. Indian born migrants are the 4th largest immigrant population in Australia, making up 2.13% of the whole Australian population, sitting at 295,000 people. • 43. The Devil And Tom Walker Archetypes History has a way of repeating itself, and it does so in many different ways, ranging from ideas to actions to even global events. Enter the idea of archetypes. Archetypes are inferred plots in texts that appear in literature and stories throughout history. The archetype being discussed in this essay would be, selling one s soul to the devil. In this archetype, a character trades something irreplaceable to them in exchange for something they greatly desire that is temporary, and generally, the character that makes the deal usually learns it was a bad idea. This can be witnessed in the text, The Devil and Tom Walker by Washington Irving, the movie A Raisin in the Sun directed by John M. Eckert, and the movie Star Wars Episode III: Revenge ... He stumbles upon a Black Man, and to peak his interest the Black Man, told him of great sums of money buried by Kidd the pirate under the oak trees on the high ridge, not far from the morass (Irving 156). This shows the offer made by the Devil . Later, after Tom s wife had disappeared in search of the Black Man, Tom went after her noticing she took all the valuables with her. He happened upon the Black Man once more and the devil offered him the treasure in exchange for him using it to become a usurer. The exchange was brief and the deal was closed with a handshake and an ecstatic uttering of the simple word, Done (159). Tom got the wealth he wanted. But he knew that he would end up spending the rest of eternity serving the devil so he became a violent churchgoer. One day, Tom was foreclosing a mortgage, and when he grew tiresome of the man stating he made too much money off of him Tom stated, The devil take me, if I have made a farthing! (160). Thus Tom got his wish and the devil took him never to be seen again. This shows how the deal ended poorly for Tom and demonstrates the final point of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. The Communist Manifesto By Karl Marx And Friedrich Engels The Communist Manifesto was written by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels to begin explaining Communism and its goals. The Manifesto suggests that history acts according to what is called class struggle. The means of production are what truly defines the class relationships according to Marx and Engels (Marx 2002). Inevitably, the classes conflict and become hostile, no longer moving fluidly (Spalding 2000). The Manifesto states that this conflict becomes so severe that it eventually becomes a revolution and one of the classes becomes the ruler of the other, keeping one oppressed while the other flourishes. These two classes by name are the bourgeoisie and the proletariat (Marx ch.2 2002). The bourgeoisie being the highly upper class and the proletariat being everyone else or the working class . It is important to note that Karl Marx was a member of the bourgeoisie himself. He had the ability to recognize the partiality given to the upper class and the repercussions of this act (Marx 2002). According to this manifesto, the dynamic between the two has shaped the way society has industry where its values originate. Before this, it was traditionally so that society was organized into more complex hierarchies (Spalding 2000). But, as a result of the French Revolution, feudalism was replaced by this newer sense of class order. Instead of having a variety of classes such as nobles, artisans, royalty etc., there were now simply two. There was now a severe demand for more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Anyone with a computer, camera, and video editing software had an outlet to show their creative works for fun or presentation, with little restriction besides time and data limits, or certain language and content, to keep the creative environment friendly and legal. The addition of advertisement came along with channels becoming more and more popular, acquiring large followings, yet did not present any more restrictions to the video sharing site. • 46. Narrative Essay On Irish Dance Day 6: I was served a traditional Irish breakfast this morning, and aside from the puddings (which weren t too bad), it was similar to a traditional breakfast I get at home. After breakfast, we boarded the bus and headed for Glenveagh Castle. The castle itself was beautiful, from the elaborate interiors, to the stunning gardens and trails, and the gorgeous scenery. The castle even has a curse attached to it, showing how Irish culture is fond of myths and superstitions. After we left the castle, we went back to the community center for lessons in Irish culture and dance. Although it is not the most common spoken language in Ireland, Gaelic, is the national language of Ireland. Having their own national language would promote nationalism within the country, giving the people something of their own that wasn t established when Brittan took over. I was as good at learning Gaelic as I was with Spanish, terrible, after the session all I could remember was how to ask for a pint and how to ask for food. Out of the two sessions, I was far better at the Irish dancing. The session itself was one of the most fun things I did in Ireland, learning the various dances and the meaning behind them. Irish dancing, like Gaelic, is very important to the Irish people, even our language instructor know some of the Irish dances. That was not the only place that I saw Irish dancing, it was common at pubs when bands were playing and even people in the crowds joined in. The Irish dancing itself is ... • 47. Reinhold Niebhur s Views On Original Sin Reinhold Niebhur s views on Original sin fall in line with my own actually; I do believe that man is inherently evil with power to do good. As much of a blessing that free will is, I believe it to also be a curse because nothing good comes free. With the freedom to make our decisions comes the responsibilty to not only know but also to understand the effects of them. Every action has a reaction, and sin is the reaction to free will. Niebuhr holds that man is responsible for his unintentional sins, even if there was no malice. Niebuhr argues through Pauline teachings that sin is essential; especially with man s tendency for self glorification. Pauline teachings indicate that human sin is an inevitable defect derived from the sin of the first man . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is easily seen because humans are faulty beings, who often fall into error even with good intentions. Our faulty minds and free will can easily fll prey deception and misinterpretation of what we think we saw with ignorance and imagination filling the gaps, and no matter what level of mental fortitude, sense of morality, or innate holiness man possesses. Man still falls subject to deception. If our minds, which are factors in our free will, can be subjected to manipulation, it is not bizarre to claim that man sins unintentionally and is responsible to correct its actions. Man s biggest flaw is its weakness in the face of temptation because temptation also lies in its heart. Man s free will is inherently corrupted by the temptations of life and the world. While free will pushed man s creativity to what seems to be a limitless boundary, it has also played a part in man s own undoing. Man s undoing lies in their ego and desire for self gratification and self glorification. They constantly strive to expand their presence and knowledge so much so that it seems to know no bounds. However even with man s ambition it is all subject to God s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These two countries have the highest GDP (gross domestic product) out of any other country, and they are both very influential over other countries, making them the two largest powers in the world. Being two major powerhouses, the two countries have many similarities, and after taking a closer look at the geography, people, and history of the two countries, it becomes evident that there are many differences as well. Many people decline to show these traits. This starts the topic saying that chivalry is still necessary in today s society. Today, people in Western society basically have no respect towards others. To have respect, people should never have contempt for others. As children, people were educated to respect adults and the rules. For this reason, everyone should always value other people s opinions. People should never stereotype others by what they say or do.
