The Absolute Monarchy, The Baroque, Baroque And The...
The absolute monarchy, the Baroque style and the Scientific Revolution were very critical movements
during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. The similarity and difference of these three movements
marked the beginning of early modern Europe and their interaction with each other made a huge
influence on political and social reform in European countries.
The one thing common in the absolute monarchy, the Baroque style and the Scientific Revolution was
that they all stood for the end of the Middle Ages. The absolute monarchy started a new regime with
the centralized power and the King of supreme. The Baroque period generated a new form of art to
worship the Church and the absolute authority. The Scientific Revolution led to a new era with a
different world view and the development of rationality. However, these three movements built on one
another and impacted the society in different directions, which will be discussed in the following.
The absolute monarchy was a political system reform in order to deal with social turmoil. It was
developing across Europe during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Around the middle of the
seventeenth century, France experienced a religious strife that the various Parlements and the nobility
started the revolution against the monarch. The Parlements and the nobility asked for the right to claim
the power and weaken the King s regime. The nobility threw France into turmoil by pillaging and
affrighting the innocent people. Under

Introduction This article in the Therapeutic Recreational Journal, presents a unique and inspired way
to improve decreased levels of social self efficacy and social performance (Allsop, Negley, Sibthorp,

By continuing to run camps and activities that take a further in depth view it may be possible to
discover that changes may develop in other areas aside from just the social aspect. It is highly likely
that increases in mental, emotional, and physical performance occur as well. However a trained and
certified TR professional running the camp would know how to better conduct assessments and
implement methods to plan an intervention in comparison to a TR intern. A major study that could
come from this research is measuring the difference in social performance when the camp is
completely administered by licensed TR professionals. While doing so it would also be a stupendous
idea to measure all four domains and really understand which domain benefits most from a camp

Throughout civilization, religions have come a long way in impacting modern society and civilization.
One of the major Abrahamic religions, Islam, has made many advances and has contributed a variety
of concepts, ideas and inventions to western civilization. Most of these contributions have gone
unnoticed throughout the years, and have been credited by various people, when in reality Muslim
scholars have formulated these concepts. Although some may believe that these contributions are
irrelevant, the reality is that most of the everyday concepts humans use all around the world, have
been derived from a primarily Islamic school of thought.
In 622 CE, a new world religion, Islam, emerged. The founder, a man by the name of Prophet ... Show

While Europe was struggling during the Dark Ages, Islam was prospering greatly. Muslim intellectual
centers were slowly growing over the Asian African continent. While first only Africa and India were
present as the major Islamic areas, the Islamic empire soon grew to the areas of the Indonesian islands
and China. This combination of the cultures of the Arabs, Indians, Turks, Chinese, and Persians is
contrasting to the popular belief that Islam is a discriminatory race, while actually all of these cultures
along with countless smaller groups aided in the contribution of the construction of the Islamic
civilization. The main logic behind this intellectual boom in the Islamic civilization is due to the
statement made by Prophet Muhammad, which goes as the following: the ink of scholars is more
precious than the blood of martyrs. These words from the Prophet served as the impetus of the
movement, as scholars from all around attempted to seek out the intellectual treasures hidden within
the minds of themselves and their cultures.
The unabridged list of the accomplishments made during the Golden Age is too lengthy to mention.
However, the major subject areas of advances were in the fields of Science, Mathematics, Medicine,
Culture and Education.
Science One of the most notable advances in the Islamic Golden age was in the field of science.

Sterilizing Delicate And Heat-Chemical
1. Explain some of the problems involved in sterilizing delicate and heat sensitive instruments such as
endoscopes, catheters, etc. *
Although sterilizing instruments for procedures is an effective way to reduce the risk of
contamination, not all instruments are able to endure the level of heat with this process. Many
endoscopes, for example, are flexible to allow for the ease of movement in the body and are not made
of sturdy material, but delicate ones. The heat used in sterilization could potentially damage the
instrument creating a vehicle for bacteria to enter the body. Some delicate pieces could be destroyed
and manipulated and introduce bacteria during a procedure, jeopardizing the health of a person.
Catheters, especially indwelling ones, must be sterile to ensure the prevention of the introduction of
bacteria to a patient/person. Made of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Visibly soiled hands (bodily fluids, etc.) should and must be washed with soap and water to
substantially rid the hands of microbes. Studies found that hand sanitizers with an alcohol content of
60 95% can kill germs effectively (instead of hand washing) compared to those hand sanitizers that
contain less than a 60% alcohol concentration or those without alcohol. Growth of microbes or
bacteria present on the hands may be inhibited, but will not completely rid their presence. They may
still stay on the hands and not completely wash off, like that during the process of rinsing during hand
washing where water will rinse them off the hands and into the sink. Bacteria like Clostridium dificile
or E. coli are familiar organisms present in the healthcare settings and may not be effectively removed
by hand sanitizers (those with alcohol content) alone. They may still be found in the crevices of the
hand or ridges in between the fingers and can sometimes spread to the wrist area and forearm if not

Abraham Lincoln also well known as Abe , was born February 12, 1809, in Hardin County, Kentucky

Abe is also on the one cent and the five dollar bill. He is on the one cent also called the Lincoln Penny

Comparing Upton Sinclair s The Jungle And Capitalism
The major issues Sinclair addressed in The Jungle are Capitalism. The explosive growth of American
industry in the late nineteenth century caused a similar expansion in the work force. Working
conditions in the new urban industrial zones were wretched, and a progressive reform movement soon
grew out of the need to address the health and welfare of the American worker. In 1905, Upton
Sinclair (1878 1968), a young socialist journalist and novelist, received a $500 advance to write a
novel about abuses in the meat processing industry and spent seven weeks investigating the subject in
Chicago. His novel, The Jungle (1906), shows the unsanitary and dangerous conditions in the plants,

The Book Of Ecclesiastes, Within The Old Testament Of The...
God gave us the gift of life for us to enjoy, so why do thoses who seek only enjoyment feel rejected
and unsatisfied with their very being? The book of Ecclesiastes, within the old testament of the bible,
can give us insight to how to interact with the laws of nature and truly be able to live life to its fullest.
Ecclesiastes is spoken by a prophet said to be the air of King David is referred to as Teacher
throughout the book. Spoiled, rich, and said to have done everything that deemed to his satisfaction,
yet he has felt nothing. As the wisest man in Jerusalem, the Teacher feels as though he has been cursed
by God, for he has tried all the deeds under the sun (1:2). He drinks, becomes wealthy, owns land,
acquires power, and experiences sexual gratification. However, none of these deeds have brought him
satisfaction. The disatisfaction of his life led him to realize that if your beliefs are of the ones of God,
than your actions through life should resemble those commanded by him, for God himself did not
curse you of evil, yet the laws of nature find a time and place for everything to happen. The teacher
encourages us to live life to the fullest, and embrace the unforeseen changes of life for we should fear
the power of God, obey his commands, and respect him. An understanding of this will grant you the
pleasure you desire in life for it is the true meaning of life and the very source of fulfillment.
We as humans should be content with the life God has

Technology Is The World Of Online Education
As the world of online education continues to evolve, schools are incorporating digital learning into
their classrooms. Through diversifying learning and opening communication technology has become
the most unique way to develop the comprehension the school s desire. Student learning and the
outcome of the technology generation has become a common development and looks as though it is
here to stay. This paper discusses the pros for technology as the gateway to education, such as:
diversity technology gives and individuality and responsibility technology makes students have;
however, the most repetitive con this paper discusses and disproves is the idea that technology is a
distraction.
Technology is one of the most controversial and innovative subjects in recent history. It has been said
that it s what will cause us to survive in the near, but distant future. Technology has been entering the
realm of education for years now. Some schools are becoming one on one schools where every student
has their own computer. The increasing population of ELL students have also come to use
technological resources as a way to not only communicate, but to learn the English language.
However, there are those who see technology as a distraction or it does not socialize the students. The
main argument for technology in the classroom is that emerging students should be able to apply
classroom concepts to daily life, and a large part of daily life revolves around technology.

Many people has suffered and struggled while trying to fit into the society. The society judges a
person thoroughly, and new members of the society are often bullied by others. Personification is used
in Lovato s lyrics, Sky s are Crying to imply the sad and depresses atmosphere hovering over the
people that has been mistreated by society. Based on Lovato s real life experience, she suffered
throughout her childhood as she was constantly being bullied by others. According to Lovato, her
hardship is to ignore the comments from society, for instance, Metaphor is found in the lyrics
Catching teardrops in my hands, indicating the struggle to leave behind the pain inflicted by society.
In the past, factors that have caused Lovato to develop eating disorder like bulimia and anorexia are
comments from the society. She tells in her lyrics nothing left of me? (5), which explain that the
society has ripped of a person s pride, exposed, and turned them into laughing stock of others, making
the person feel naked and worthless. Through her song, Lovato tries to tell her listeners that things don

Employment and Medical Leave Act Essay
Family and Medical Leave Act The Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 (FMLA) was established
to help protect employees who missed work for medical reasons. The Family and Medical Leave Act
(FMLA) provides employees job protection in case of family or medical emergency. FMLA permits
eligible employees to take up to 12 workweeks of unpaid leave during any 12 month period.
(Martocchio, 2003) The Wage and Hour Division (WHD) is responsible for administrating and
enforcing most of the labor laws, including FMLA. There are four reasons that an employee can claim
FMLA. They are 1) for the birth and care for a newborn child; 2) for placement with the employee of

In reality, the impact of FMLA abuse extends well beyond the workplace because FMLA costs are
passed on to consumers. (Profesional Exchange Service Corporation, 2005) Even though the time off
is unpaid to the employee, it is very disruptive to certain types of business such as call centers who
need to schedule employees to cover busy call times with in their business. By having employees
abusing this policy, it becomes harder and harder to staff some businesses. It is not only the employer
that suffers; it is also the employees that are left to work when there peers off of work. Some of the
other issues with the administration of the law are the vague diagnoses doctors give for the reasons
employees should be off of work. In some cases, employees file under the FMLA law when in fact
they may have a type of disability the employer could accommodate under the ADA law. Even though
the intent of this act was to help protect employees, many believe that FMLA may be doing more
harm to business that it was intended. It may be time to review and revamp this law, and have some of
the items intergraded into the ADA in order for it to be better managed. Many believe that there are
ways to improve this law to help protect employees as well as have the law not have a severe impact
on businesses. References Cohen, D. G., McLeod, T. (2003, August 2003). Changes in FMLA are
needed. Michigan Banker, 15(8),

Ernest Hemingway s A Clean, Well-Lighted Place
After a countless amount of readings of Ernest Hemingway s short story A Clean, Well Lighted Place I
have often contemplated what it all means. I ve previously been told by my undergraduate professor
that the story has no intrinsic meaning or value. I refuse to believe that is true. All stories can have
multiple meanings that are buried deep beneath the text. It just requires an extensive analyzation of the
short story. Why would the story be written if it had no meaning? In this paper, I will search for
meaning in the text that is primarily described as an exploration of existential nihilism. In order to
analyze the story, I will deconstruct the meaning. The short story is filled with holes. Not only is there

Instead, you enter a world of ambiguous conversations surrounding suicide and nihilism. The short
story introduces an ideology of agnosticism and atheism that challenges the ever powerful, and
meaningful, religious ideologies. In this case, the agonistic worldview is oppressed compared to an
ideal religious ideology. Another idealistic feature within the text is being youthful. The younger
waiter in the story is privileged because he has many years ahead of him, a wife, and he believes he
has a more meaningful life. The oppressed and unappealing people in the text would be the old deaf
man and the old waiter that are in the story. With the younger waiter being privileged in the story, it is
essential to challenge and reverse the powerful hierarchies that romanticize being youthful and having
meaning in ones life. When the younger waiter refuses to let the old man stay and drink in the cafe he
assumes that the old man can go drink elsewhere. He doesn t realize that he needs the cafe, because it
is nicely lit and it is quiet. Not only is the waiter closing the cafe earlier than usual, but he mentions
that an hour means more to him than it would to the old man. The text states, Why didn t you let him
stay and drink? the unhurried waiter asked. They were putting up the shutters. It is not half past two. I
want to go home to bed. What is an hour? More to me than to him. An hour is the same (381). At this
point in the story, the older waiter is telling the young man that he was wrong for sending the old man
away. When the younger waiter to state that his time is more valuable than the old man, this shows
how the older people in the text are being oppressed. According to Rolfe, To reverse the resident

Theme Of Evil In The Kite Runner
The majority of literature at its core, can display a power struggle between the forces of good and evil.
These overarching ideas represent the human condition and how a certain state of being brings out
these concepts from deep within the hearts of men. This is exemplified in Khaled Hosseini s The Kite
Runner, in which evil permeates characters in the form of greed, abuse of power and deceit. The
themes of evil act as an affliction on Amir s mind in his treatment of Hassan, within Baba s sins
toward his family and religion and Assef, who s psychological insanity drove him toward cruel
exploits of others. Amir s character represents a development of the human spirit. He is inherently
good in his thoughts and actions early on in the story, but the reader can see him begin to evolve. The
actions of others, more specifically his father and Hassan cause him to become plagued with
aforementioned themes of evil. He sees himself largely influenced by greed and an ability to abuse his
power over Hassan. The evil metamorphoses Amir into a character driven by self interest at the
deprivation of others. Amir feels challenged for his father s love by Hassan and uses his social status
and educated ability to impose himself over Hassan when they read together. This abuse of power
shows the corruption within Amir that develops into greed as Baba continues to distance himself from
Amir. This selfishness climaxes when Hassan is defiled by Assef and Amir says

Argumentative Essay On Animal Rights
Animal rights has always been conversional subject, what rights do they have, what type of treatment
they may endure, and what is wildlife versus what are pets. Society as it a whole as always had used
animals as form entertainment for example like zoos, circuses, aquariums, rodeos, animal fighting and
hunting. Though these types of entertainments project as innocent forms of fun for all ages when it s
enslavement for the animals. These animals are taken from their homes to be forced behind cages,
glass and concert walls to perform for the paying customer. The animals see millions of human faces
pressed against these walls staring in hoping to see them do tricks or just move in general. These
animals are also forced to perform and train for hours on in just to be a meal ticket for the right buyer.
The advertisement above illustrates how animals are used like puppets for entertainment. When you
think of puppets, you think of a puppet master pulling the strings, to make the puppet dance, sing and
entertain you. Now just picture a wild animal having invisible strings attached to them with a puppet
master giving orders. Instead of strings they use actual force and punishment to get what they want.
While in the picture it states, The show must go on , when you hear this phrase you know meaning
that regardless of what happens, whatever show has been planned still must be performed for the
paying guests, the same goes for animals too. Which suggest no matter how much force, pain

Formaldehyde Research Paper
Formaldehyde is a colorless and flammable gas. It is used in many cosmetic products to aid in
preventing bacteria growth. This chemical can be found in many different personal care products
including nail polish, body washes, shampoos, cleansers, eye shadows, and nail polish treatments. The
most common side effect of Formaldehyde are allergic skin reactions. It has been found to cause
irritation of the eyes, nose, and skin. But, it as also been linked to nasal and nasopharyngeal cancers.
It is somewhat difficult to figure out if your cosmetics contain Formaldehyde because most product
labels won t tell you if it is or isn t present. However, you can figure it out yourself by checking for
various chemicals. Some chemicals that are related to Formaldehyde are DMDM hydantoin,
Imidazolidinyl urea, and Bronopol. In addition, there are some nail polish companies who do not use

Hydroquinone
Hydroquinoe is a compound found in numerous skin products that is used for lightening skin. It is
contained in a lot of products that are aimed towards reducing the appearance of dark spots, freckles,
and acne scars. Hydroquinoe unfortunately does cause some dangerous health concerns. For one, it
causes skin irritation. Using this ingredient regularly can result in your skin starting to irritate. Some
people have even experienced extreme redness and itching when they applied it to their skin.
There are many alternatives to using products that contain hydroquinone. If you are searching for a
skin whitening product, look for one that is made of natural ingredients such as mandelic acid and
alpha hydroxy acids. Using products with these natural ingredients are way safer than using products
that contain hydroquinone. However, remember that even though skin whitening can help many skin
problems, it should only be used for treating problem regions, not for using all over. Try your best to
be comfortable in the skin you already

It is the third largest country in Latin America and has one of the largest populations more than 100
million making it the home of more Spanish speakers than any other nation in the world. Despite the
political and social changes that have occurred over the centuries, evidence of past cultures and events
are apparent everywhere in Mexico. Many of Mexico s rural areas are still inhabited by indigenous
people whose lifestyles are quite similar to those of their ancestors. In addition, many pre Columbian
ruins still exist throughout Mexico, including the ancient city of Teotihuacán and the Mayan pyramids
at ChichénItzá and Tulum. Reminders of the colonial past are evident in the architecture of towns like
Taxco and Querétar.

The Olmecs, Mexico s first known society, settled on the Gulf Coast near what is now Veracruz.
Remembered for the giant head sculptures they carved from native stone, the Olmecs had two main
population centers: San Lorenzo, which flourished from about 1200 to 900 B.C., and La Venta in
Tabasco, which lasted until about 600 B.C.
By 300 B.C., villages based on agriculture and hunting had sprung up throughout the southern half of
Mexico. Monte Albán, home to the Zapotec people, had an estimated 10,000 inhabitants. Between 100

Essay On The Sectional Crisis
The Road to Secession How did the sectional crisis begin? What one event triggered this crisis? While
these are question commonly answered, it is up to interpretation of the conflicts between the North
and South in order to decide which events caused the secession. There is not simply one event or
conflict which resulted in the secession of the deep southern sates beginning in 1860 (Brands 2015,
333). As of February 1, 1860 seven southern states had seceded from the union due to the friction
between Northern and Southerners. While some may argue that the sectional crisis is a result of the
fight for power between the North and South; the sectional crisis can be attributed to three main
factors and their effects on the nation, differences ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One key difference between the North and South was the North s abundance of cheap labor. Between
1845 and 1855 around 3 million people immigrated to the US (304). This new influx of people
brought large quantities of low waged factory, mine and construction workers to the Northern states
just in time to aid in the industrial revolution. Contrary to the North, southern states still relied heavily
on slave labor as their economy was dependent on cash crops. Furthermore, slavery was not only an
economic institution but now a way of life for Southerners. Therefore, slavery was more widely
accepted and condoned as it was both a way of life and an economic institution. However, Northerners
did not experience this way of life or rely on slave labor. Due to this, Northerners we more eager to
expel slavery. Northerners discontentment with slavery created negative responses to the Compromise
of 1850 as opposed to the Southerners. One of the five federal laws in the Compromise of 1850, the
Fugitive Slave Act, disabled Northerners to remain impartial to the slavery conflict (315). The

Essay on The Death of Innocence in The Catcher in the Rye
Holden identifies with, yearns for, and despises traits of the adult and child realms. In the novel The
Catcher in the Rye, by J.D. Salinger, the protagonist, Holden Caulfield, fears becoming an adult who
exhibits the characteristics that he holds complaints against. Throughout this Bildungsroman narrative,
Holden searches for his identity. He tries to figure out his place either in the adult or child realm.
Holden possesses a combination of fear and hatred for phonies . Holden uses this term to describe a

The functioning of an international order refers to the rules of the game that delineate how states act
toward each other. These rules or governing arrangements are intentionally constructed by states to
promote their goals and interests (Bull 1977: 8) These rules may be formal, operating through
mechanisms like international law, international treaties and alliances, and international organizations,
or they may be informal, based on more nebulous concepts like norms, principles, and values
regarding acceptable or legitimate behavior. These rules of the game identify the rights and obligations

Thus, there is no central political authority that can establish rules, force states to obey them, punish
states that break the rules, or otherwise arbitrate among states (Jervis 1985). However, the major
theoretical paradigms draw different implications from anarchy.
Realism is a dominant theory of international relations focuses on state s security and power primarily.
Besides, states are considered the only unitary rational actors where its survival and interests is the
cornerstone of interstates relation highly based on might rather than on right. Hence, realists believe
that people are by nature sinful and instinctively seeking power to dominant others. Power will be
everlasting in the human s nature and the possibility to be eradicated is a utopian aspiration (Kegley,
1993). On the other hand, Liberalism as a dominant theory of international relations emphasizes
peaceful interstates relations where the preference of states goes beyond politics to economic and
social interaction to achieve a harmonious environment and reducing war conflicts. Basically, the
liberals underline that states are not unitary actors and non states actors are significant to take a part in
the realm since states are not rational and all actors will function better together. Additionally, power
and security dilemma is a secondary objective.
For realists, power and the distribution of power are the only important factors in IR. It is

Essay On The Conch Shell In Lord Of The Flies
A group of young British boys is stranded on an island with little to no supplies, besides a silly shell,
and a fire to keep their hope alive. In William Golding s Lord of the Flies, a group of British boys
were shot out of an airplane and landed on a strange island, all separated from each other. It is a very
interesting novel which includes a series of intense and sad events that all play a part in leading the
group of boys to their rescue off of the island. The group of boys has also come across multiple items
which represent a larger and influential idea towards the reader. The fire, conch, and the specs which
belong to Piggy. The symbolic conch shell in Lord of the Flies evolved its meaning throughout the
novel seeing that it first represented order, became power, and ultimately a loss of civilization through
the course of the book.
To begin, throughout the beginning of Lord of the Flies, the conch shell becomes a symbol of order
and unity. After their tragic plane crash, one element that brought the boys together was the conch
shell. One of the main characters, Ralph, used the conch shell to call anyone else who is on the island,
which resulted in the other boys being found and a tribe being formed. When Ralph was voted chief,
he started to create rules that were based around the conch. Ralph picked up the conch and began to
explain the rules, And another thing. We can t have everybody talking at once. We ll have Hands up

What Is The Evolution Of Jazz
Beyond Commercial Jazz Duke Ellington, one of the most influential musicians in jazz, was known to
have described his own unique brand of the genre as American Music. While the reach of jazz ended
up breaking past the western hemisphere, it was a definitively American phenomenon (Dyas). The
style of the jazz age, exemplified notably by Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby, described perfectly the
commercial birth of jazz and the spontaneous lifestyle of the 20 s. However, the commercial styles of
jazz such as the Dixieland of the 20 s and swing of the 30 s and 40 s could be viewed as an
introductory phase in the evolution of jazz (Scaruffi). If people were to look past the commercial
styles of jazz, they would find a performance art full of impulse ... Show more content on

Here is when have Miles Davis, for the third time setting the stage for style of jazz with two back to
back albums In a Silent Way and Bitches Brew (Scaruffi). One might have assumed that fusion was a
grasp towards commercialism, with rock music being the leading sound at this period, but these
releases of Miles s still have the experimental heart of jazz. In a Silent Way boasts a regular jazz
quintet, but with two pianists, an organist, and a guitarist (Scaruffi). The result was a hushed, curious
ambient sound that was the quiet of the storm to Miles s more ambitious Bitches Brew. Bitches Brew
was the true kick start to fusion: the ambitious double LP blurred rock and jazz together into a
torrential, impressionistic landscape that inspired many musicians, and pushed the agenda that the
combination of jazz and rock could have artistic integrity (Scaruffi). Multiple fusion bands formed as
a result of Bitches Brew alumni. Electric pianist Joe Zawinul joined forces with Wayne Shorter to start
the fusion band The Weather Report, gaining a diverse group of players such as the talented electric
bassist Jaco Pastorius (Blumenthal 147). John McLaughlin, another Bitches Brew alumni formed the
band Mahavishnu Orchestra which has recorded notable albums such as The Inner Mounting Flame
(Scaruffi). An analysis of In a Silent Way states that ...wasn t exactly jazz, [but] it certainly wasn t
rock (Freeman 26), and this genre ambiguity of the album held a precedent for fusion jazz becoming a

Relationship Between Consumer Sentiment And Adr Price Essay
These studies discussed above implicitly assume that the local and US investors have homogeneous
expectations about future prospects of all markets. However, in practice, different market conditions
can cause investors to generate differential risk perceptions. Some studies argue that investor
sentiment may augment to the price divergence between ADRs and their underlying stocks.
 Heterogeneous Investor Sentiment
Grossmann et al. (2007) perhaps is the first to investigate the relationship between consumer
sentiment and ADR price differences. Using a fixed effects panel data approach, they provide
evidence in support of the hypothesis that costly arbitrage factors influence ADR price differentials.
30 Moreover, they argue that sentiment could also help explain the mispricing of ADRs. Specifically,
they test whether consumer sentiment (measured by consumer sentiment indices) help to explain the
divergence between the prices of ADRs and that of their underlying assets. Their results suggest that
the more optimistic U.S. consumers are the lower the ADR premiums. Based on the findings, they
conclude that the prices of ADRs and that of the underlying stocks are more responsive to US
consumer sentiment as to the consumer sentiment of the country of origin.
Using a cross sectional panel data approach, Arquette et al. (2008) model the variations in ADR
discount as a function of expected changes in exchange rate expectations and differences in investor
sentiment.31 The sample

Anti Catholic Beliefs In America
From being the main religion of the entire Roman Empire to its followers being exiled in the early
Puritan settlements, Catholicism and those who follow it are considered a minority in the American
society. The Puritan religion was the first religious group in the colonies to be actively anti Catholic.
America gained religious tolerance after the American Revolution, but state laws varied on the
practice of religion. The Puritan belief system stayed prevalent throughout the centuries, influencing
anti Catholic groups. Anti Catholic sentiment arises in pop culture because of the misinterpretation in
the Church s doctrine in that it never changes while our society does.

Despite the age of these systems, the Catholic Church continues to operate close to them, similar to
when they were adopted. The misunderstanding and prejudice towards these systems cause many
people to adopt anti Catholic beliefs for contemporary issues in America. The democratic political
system in America clashes with the hierarchical lineage that the Catholic Church possesses. The
problem arises when anti Catholics claim that Catholics are un American because they follow a
hierarchy, rather than the American system of democracy. The democratic system allows the people to
vote for their leader to govern them, however, the Catholic leader, the Pope, is not chosen by the
people of the Catholic Church. Un American criticism continues with the debates and movements on
Sexism and Feminism. As women s roles are changed, the Catholic Church is keeping true to its
origins by keeping the governing body, the priesthood, bishops, Cardinals, and the Pope, a completely
male role. The Church is criticized by many as being sexist and by that, un American, for not allowing
ordination for women. Many Americans / view the church s ban on women s ordination largely in
terms of democratic principles, or rights and representation (Martin). Anti Catholics throw up these
accusations of sexism without contemplating the true role of women in the Catholic Church. Pope
Francis said in an interview Look, in the Church women are more important than men, because the
church is a woman / The Church is the bride of Jesus Christ. And the Madonna is more important that
popes and bishops and priests (Ruiz). This governing structure, as well as other beliefs of the Catholic
Church, seem confusing or silly to post enlightenment ideas. As human philosophy has developed
after the Enlightenment, the Church has kept the doctrine the same. This has not caused the anti
Catholic community to criticize

Bohemian Rhapsody Essay
Queen s cult classic hit Bohemian Rhapsody debuted in 1975; this single exploded and had sold more

seized the opportunity to experiment with what could be accepted in mainstream music. Through
thoughtful and decisive manipulation of musical elements such as tonality, harmony, form and lyrical

falls under a genre known as progressive rock. It s a genre that is characterised by the unorthodox take

Origin of the human malaria parasite
Plasmodium falciparum has become one of the most prevalent and lethal of the malaria parasites
infecting humans despite the fact that its evolutionary history remains controversial and unresolved.
(Nature, The International Weekly Journal of Science No.7314 23 September, 2010). Researches done
by Weimin Liu and associates to characterize Plasmodium species using DNA sequence in faecal
samples from wild living apes indicated Plasmodium infections in Gorilla and Chimpanzees from the
nearly 3000 specimens collected. These Plasmodium infections were prevalent in Chimpanzees (Pan
troglodytes) and western gorillas (Gorilla gorilla), but not in gorilla found from the eastern part of
central Africa known as Gorilla beringei and bonobos also known as Pan paniscus. The findings also
indicated that ape plasmodial infections were highly prevalent, well distributed and is most of the time
are made up of mixed parasites species. This interesting research findings shows that P. falciparum
originated from gorilla and not chimpanzee, bonobo or even ancient human origin.

The Importance of Ethics in the Workplace Essay
The Importance of Ethics in the Workplace
In their personal and professional lives, people can and, unfortunately, sometimes do go against their
moral and ethical standards. Ethical standards are what it means to be a good person, the social rules
that govern our behavior. Ethics in business is essentially the study of what constitutes the right and
wrong or the good or bad behavior in the workplace environment. A business is an organization whose
objective is to provide goods or services for profit. The organization has a group of people that work
together to achieve a common purpose. The moral challenges that these men and women face each
day along with a whole range of problems that could occur, are why ethics plays such an important ...

what happens to you. (Smith, 2005, 7)
What a valuable employee, Sue definitely took the high road and handled that dilemma with integrity.
Each person has many reasons for being ethical. Some reasons can be: inner beliefs, habits, virtue
because it is its own reward, personal advantages, it s good business, there is approval, being an
ethical person can lead to self esteem, the admiration of loved ones and the respect of peers. There is
also religion because it is believed that good behavior can please or help serve a deity. Ethical actions
can fit in with upbringing or training. Ethics starts with the individual employee choosing the right or
wrong decision.

Chlorpromache Research Paper
This week I learnt about chlorpromazine, which is an antipsychotic. It is also used in short term
management of anxiety, agitation or disturbed behaviour in non psychotic disorders. Chlorpromazine
is an antagonist of many receptors, which include α1 adrenoceptor, M3 muscarinic receptor, H1
Histamine receptor, 5HT2 receptor, dopamine D2 receptor and angiotensin II AT1 receptor. This
illustrates one of the pharmacology principles, which is selectivity of a drug. A highly selective drug (
clean drug ) binds to only one receptor or molecular target whereas a drug having low selectivity (
dirty drug ) will bind to many targets in the body. Binding upon many receptors can produce many
effects but some effects are not desired. For example, chlorpromazine ... Show more content on

Morphine mimics endogenous opioids and activates opioid receptors in the central and peripheral
nervous systems. Opioid receptors are G protein coupled receptors which are coupled to Gi protein.
Upon binding of morphine to opioid receptors, it triggers the inhibition of adenylate cyclase enzyme
and ultimately stops the firing of impulses for nociceptive information. After repeated activation of
opioid receptors by morphine, some receptors can be desensitised and binding of morphine to these
receptors can no longer stops the neurotransmission. As a consequence, tolerance to morphine
develops. When a drug is used repeatedly over time, tolerance can develop as the body adapts to the
presence of the drug in the body. Therefore, a higher dose is required to achieve the same desired
effect. For example, for morphine, if tolerance develops, a higher dose is needed in order to attain the
same analgesic effect. Moreover, one of the adverse effects of morphine when it is used for long term
to relieve pain is physical dependence. Dependence develops as a result of tolerance, leading to a
resetting of homeostatic mechanisms that require the continued presence of drug for normal function.
Therefore, if chronic treatment is stopped suddenly or an antagonist is given, withdrawal symptoms
such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, sweating, anxiety can

inconsistent results in relation to the effects on depressive outcomes. Some studies have indicated that
the motivational component of agency to be more predictive in the maintenance of psychological well
being (Arnau et al., 2007; Cramer Dyrkacz, 1998; Lopez et al., 2003), whereas other studies have
suggested that the ability to formulate alternate routes to goal attainment in the form of pathways is a
better predictor of psychological adjustment (Elliot et al., 1991; Irving, Snyder, Crowson, 1998).
Specifically, Chang (2003) investigated these variables among a sample of middle aged men and
women. Findings revealed that agency thinking had a direct effect on depressive symptoms and that
pathways thinking had an effect on depressive symptoms for women but not for men). Furthermore,
results also indicate that as agency and pathways increase among men and

Relationship Between Child Abuse and Delinquency
A child is an innocent figure only looking for love and care from those around them. No one can ever
imagine that the lives of children are put in danger everyday. Child abuse is commonly known for
physical marks such as bruises or broken bones. It is obvious that some marks are not from falling off
a bike and those are the signs that appear that something is wrong with the child. According to the
Florida Statue, abuse means any willful act or threatened act that results in any physical, mental, or
sexual injury or harm that causes or is likely to cause the child s physical, mental, or emotional health
to be significantly impaired. Abuse of a child includes acts or omissions. Corporal discipline of a child

They may never understand what a good relationship consists of since all they know is how to be
abusive and controlling over another person. Another effect on children is feeling worthless. Some
believe that name calling should not leave a mark on a person but for young children not knowing any
better or understanding the concept of what is being done to them can make them truly believe
whatever is being said to them. They will believe that they are not smart or pretty and grow up
thinking that they are damaged and are good for nothing. Lastly, abused children tend to have
problems expressing their feelings and regulating their emotions. Some children keep quiet to
themselves and hold all their emotions inside while others may lash out unexpectedly causing them to
become aggressive and harming others. If these emotions are not dealt with right away it will carry on
to their adulthood where they will struggle with issues such as anger and depression which then can
lead to drugs and alcohol. The effects of abuse can continue on in a variety of ways but this is only a
handful of effects that can occur. III. Role of Professional Social Worker in addressing the issue A
social worker, whether protective or one who has other job functions, is considered to be a

Using the Correlational Method to Study the Divided Brain
The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the correlational method as a means for examining the
relationship between functions of the left and right hemispheres. I will compare the performance of
people with intact brains with the performance of so called split brain patients. In many ways, the
brains of these two groups are very similar. 1a. The brain stem is found in the deepest part of the brain.
The brainstem controls the automatic survival functions of the body, such as breathing. There are no
differences between the function of the normal brainstem and the brain of a split brain patient. The
brainstem will still supply the automatic survival functions of the body. 1b. The hippocampus is found
in the limbic system along with the amygdala, the hypothalamus. The hippocampus is in charge of
allowing the body to process information into memories. Without the hippocampus, there is no way
for new memories to be created. There is no anatomical difference between the hippocampus in the
normal brain and a split brain. 1c. The corpus callosum is found in the center of the brain. The role it
plays as a part of the brain is it connects both the left and right hemispheres of the brain, allowing
them to work and interact together as a whole system. The difference between the anatomy of the
corpus callosum in a split brain patient versus someone without a

Remember The Titans Quotes
Remember The Titans Coach Yoast:
In the movie Remember the Titans by Jerry Bruckheimer and Chad Oman, there are two main coaches
that are involved with a mixed race football team from T. C. Williams High School. In the start of the
movie Coach Yoast was a happy man coaching a good team. Then came along a black coach called
Coach boon and took his job. There were some arguments throughout the movie and then Coach Yoast
had to accept he was going to have to work with this man.
In the movie Remember the Titans by Jerry Bruckheimer and Chad Oman, there are two main coaches
that are involved with a mixed race football team from T. C. Williams High School. In the start of my
essay I will be talking about when these two coaches meet. Then I will talk about how one coach loses
his job and the other takes over. In the 3rd paragraph I will talk about how those two work together.
Then in my final paragraph I will talk about the championship game.
When these two first met, Coach Yoast didn t know that he was going to lose his job to coach Boone.
The school board may have put you on my team, but I did not hire you this is what coach Yoast first
says to Boone. This shows that even though Coach Boone will be working alongside him, Yoast didn t

Procedural Programming Of Programming Languages
Programming Languages
Definition of the term program
A program in computing is a predefined list of instructions that, when run or executed , tell a computer
to carry out a task and how to it.
Overview of procedural, object orientated and event driven programs
In programming, there are many different paradigms, also known as structures or styles that allow the
programmer a means to build or structure different elements within a computer program. These
paradigms are: procedural, event driven and object orientated.
Applications that can be developed using these paradigms
Procedural programming uses a list of instructions to tell the computer what to do step by step.
Procedural programming relies on you guessed it procedures, also known as routines or subroutines. A
procedure contains a series of computational steps to be carried out. Procedural programming is also
referred to as imperative programming. Procedural programming languages are also known as top
down languages.
Procedural programming is intuitive in the sense that it is very similar to how you would expect a
program to work. If you want a computer to do something, you should provide step by step
instructions on how to do it. It is, therefore, no surprise that most of the early programming languages
are all procedural.
The procedural paradigm uses a list of instructions as a basis. These tell the computer what to do, and
how to do it step by step. The procedural paradigm does rely on subroutines or

The Challenges of Introducing New Technology
Comment lines: The challenges of introducing new technology
Skill Level: Introductory Andre Tost (andretost@us.ibm.com) Senior Technical Staff Member IBM
06 Oct 2010 Technologies that are new to an organization present a number of issues simply because
they are new. Such issues are rarely addressed properly or sufficiently, if at all. The lack of a formal
process for introducing new technology into an IT environment is one of the biggest challenges faced
by companies looking to leverage new products. Here is a look at how you can plan for introducing
new technologies including new software, new systems, new versions of existing software and
systems, and more to ensure the proper technical teams and governance mechanisms are ... Show more

these goals. A possible future trend that might lead to equally large numbers of new technologies and
products is the concept of cloud computing, just to name one last example. Another trigger for new
technology can come from the lines of business in an enterprise. New business requirements might
arise that result in the need for technology that an IT organization currently does not support.
Examples for the technologies that have to be introduced to the IT landscape in those cases are portals,
multi channel architectures, or business rule systems.
A lifecycle for new technology
Despite the wide variety of new technologies (as defined above) and just as many possible triggers for
these technologies, you can still define a common lifecycle that all technologies share. The lifecycle
described in Table 1 is such an example; there are many variations but all would include these same
major aspects: Table 1. Sample technology lifecyle
Stage Introduced Description A technology or product is brought into an organization for the first
time. This is when various groups get to take a first look at the technology, often testing its use in the
form of a proof of concept. Initial planning has been conducted for the technology to go into
production in support of a business solution, which will act as a pilot. The planning

The World s First Nuclear Weapon
The creation of the nuclear weapons has caused major concern towards national security worldwide
since the 1940 s when the US sets up the Manhattan Project to develop the first nuclear weapon. After
the weapons were created we find that more then five nations and counting have been developing their
own weapons besides our very own USA. These other nations include but not limited to Russia,
United Kingdom, France, India, China, North Korea, Pakistan and Israel. Throughout this paper we
are going to take a look at the history of nuclear weapons, mechanical make up, magnitude of
destruction, how many nuclear weapon each country has and the future of a possible nuclear war.

Not only that tens of thousands later died of radiation exposure. Under the pressure of being out
numbered Japan agreed to an unconditional surrender on August 14, 1945. This resulted as the end of
World War II. In years after the massive attacks, the United States, Soviet Union and Great Britain
conducted several nuclear weapons tests. In 1954, President of India called for a ban on nuclear
testing. It was the first big scale initiative to ban using nuclear technology for mass destruction.
The United States, Soviet Union and some sixty other countries signed a treaty to seek the ends of the
nuclear arms race and promote disarmament on July 1, 1968. It purpose was to permits the use of
nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. In 1995 The United Nations, on December 12 decreed an
immediate ban on all nuclear testing and urged disarmament with the vision of a world free of nuclear
weapons. The United States is the only known country to have mussels with range to attack any target
on earth. They aren t alone over thirty countries have unmanned planes that are undetected by missile
defense systems, and can carry nuclear, biological or other weapons of mass destruction.
Other reasons that can fuel the usage of weapons of mass destruction are belief in religion. In the
Middle East, Iran may be one of the most dangerous places to receive nuclear weapons, but luckily no
one from Western civilization supplies these armies with such technology. This

Malcolm X Biography Essay
Throughout history there are many great people who dedicated their life to the advancement of the
African American race. Few of these people created as much controversy during the 1960 s then the
man who would be known as Malcolm X. Unlike many of the civil rights leaders of the time who
promoted non violence, Malcolm X believed in the use of aggressive tactics in his battle for equality.
Malcolm X was born Malcolm Little on May 19, 1925, in Omaha, Nebraska to Earl and Louise Little.
His father, a minister and devout Christian, was known for being an outspoken follower of the black
nationalist leader Marcus Garvey. Garvey s message promoted the back to Africa movement that

Malcolm began a life of using and selling drugs, home invading, gambling, as well as wearing flashy
clothing. He moved to Harlem in 1942 and continued his rise in the criminal world, becoming known
as Detroit Red for his reddish brown hair. When the authorities became aware of his illegal activities
he returned to Boston. Four years later at the age of twenty, Malcolm was arrested and sentenced to
ten years in prison for burglary. It would be the time spent in prison that would transform Malcolm
and change him from a career criminal to the activist he would later be known as. He visited the
prison library and read books on religion, philosophy, and history. He read and copied the entire
dictionary acquiring the skills that would make him a powerful public speaker. He dedicated his time
in prison to his own personal development and through his brother Reginald learned of the
organization known as the Nation of Islam or the Black Muslims. The Nation of Islam is an Islamic
religious organization founded by its leader Elijah Muhammad which promoted Black separatism
from whites culturally, physically, politically and psychologically. Malcolm began to follow the
preachings of Muhammad and practiced the religion devoutly, giving up drug use, alcohol
consumption, as well as eating pork. Upon his release from prison in 1952 Malcolm traveled to
Chicago, Illinois to meet with Elijah Muhammad. Muhammad accepted

Gender And Gender Aspects Of Gender In Everyday Life
Gender in Everyday Life
Shyana Burks Diggins
Community College of Aurora
Gender in Everyday Life In today s culture, I see gender being a person s master status. In most
aspects of my life, I notice that gender overrides other statuses such as my race or occupation. I
believe gender does this because of the way it is instilled in every social institution. I imagine it is
hard to inquire about my experiences without it coming from a woman s perspective. It s not what it
means to be college educated, but what does it mean to be a college educated woman, and not what
does it mean to be black, but what does it mean to be a black woman. Parenthood is near impossible to
be understood without seeing it through a gender experience. Although gender is a social construction,
it dictates individuals in a way that I cannot imagine any other social concept could. As I recorded my
actions throughout the day, I realized that there are a lot of them that are dictated by my gender. I
recorded over 50 actions and I am sure that I could have recorded differently depending on the kind of
day. I recorded around 10 15 actions just from the daily aspect of getting ready and clothing. For
example, I thought I chose my clothing depending on how I felt that day, but I realized small things
like my choice of underwear was never of my volition. Depending on the kind of pants I wore, I
wanted to avoid a panty line not only for fashion s sake but because that will affect future interactions
with the other sex. With my experience, I see that men pick the underwear that will suit their comfort
level, like if they want to wear briefs for exercising or boxers for a less active setting. Some of my
actions I instantly knew were gendered, like my application of makeup to uphold a feminine standard
or even the change of inflection of my voice when I talk to customers on the phone. As a woman and a
consumer, I know that when I speak to a representative about an issue I expect empathy. A
representative conveys that through smiling through the phone . Supervisors and trainers at my job
admit that this trait is better accomplished by women because if we sound any other way we sound off
putting and ingenuine. This

Elizabeth Cady Stanton Essay
Elizabeth Cady Stanton Elizabeth Cady Stanton was known as the Daughter of the Revolution, which
dealt with women s suffrage (Ward 92). Stanton was born on November 12, 1815, to Daniel Cady and
Margaret Livingston. Daniel, her father, held the position of judge of Johnstown, New York.
Unfortunately for Daniel, Margaret gave birth to only three sons, two whom died shortly after; one at
birth and the other after graduating from Union College . Stanton engaged herself in Greek studies and
mathematics at the Johnstown Academy. She learned to ride and manage a horse and became a skilled
debator. She also found great joy in participating in various sporting activities, although her mother
greatly dissapproved, referring to Stanton as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Stanton eventually went on to marry Henry Stanton, a progressive thinking reformer in the abolitionist
movement. Once, she accompanied her husband on a visit to London to attend the World Anti Slavery
Convention (Huntington 1). This convention refused to recognize women as legitimate delegates. This
obviously angered Stanton and encouraged her to steer most of her energy towards ending women s
suffrage.
Stanton resolved to call together a women s rights convention when she returned from London. Eight
years later, this convention took place in Seneca Falls, New York. At the convention, women discussed
the social, civil, and religious conditions and rights of women. Stanton acted as the leader of this
convention and wrote the meeting s manifesto, the Seneca Falls Declaration of Sentiments, which
included a women s bill of rights. After the convention, Stanton began traveling around the country
giving speeches on women s rights, only resting four months out of the year. Usually these breaks
from traveling were due to bad weather conditions, which prevented her from traveling. Stanton was
passionate about the overturning of what she deemed the orthodox patriarchal society against which
she led a lifelong rebellion (Banner 10).
In 1868, Stanton, with the help of Suan B. Anthony, created the Independent National Woman
Suffrage Association. The same year, Stanton also began publishing the

The Pros And Cons Of Assassination As A Tool Of Modern...
The changing face of conflict has brought about an evolution on how we conduct and even think about
warfare. Gross (2010) states that assassination was once prohibited under the statutes of international
law but has increasingly become common in the modern day battlefield. A dilemma is presented when
we question is there any ethical basis of using assassination as a tool of modern warfare. There is
increasing realization that one cannot engage in war using the conventional means. Terrorism and
insurgence being the new methods employed in modern warfare mean fighting using conventional
rules puts one at a major disadvantage. The killing of Osama Bin Laden according to White (2012)
can be termed as an assassination; it was executed by a special ... Show more content on

Osama bin Laden s case was special since while he was not the head of a government, he was the
leader of a terrorist organization that was engaged in terrorist attacks against the United States. And as
concluded by White (2012) this notion can be used to support the rationale of using terrorism as a tool
of war on some specific special targets. Assassination though is not a just means of engaging in
warfare as explained by Gross (2010) since there is no basis of choosing who is a terrorist engaging in
warfare and who is not a terrorist. Nelson Mandela was labeled a terrorist by the South African
government but he subsequently became a head of state and leader of South Africa. If assassination
was used as a tool to eliminate him then it would complicate the justification of assassination as stated
by White (2012) as a tool to eliminate terrorists in the event of a war. Mandela transformed from being
a terrorist to a Nobel Peace prize winner. Justice cannot be served through assassinations as a method
of war. The discretion of whether to use it or not cannot be left to the whims of those in government
since they could use it on any of their so called enemies whom they could label as

  • 2. The Absolute Monarchy, The Baroque, Baroque And The... The absolute monarchy, the Baroque style and the Scientific Revolution were very critical movements during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. The similarity and difference of these three movements marked the beginning of early modern Europe and their interaction with each other made a huge influence on political and social reform in European countries. The one thing common in the absolute monarchy, the Baroque style and the Scientific Revolution was that they all stood for the end of the Middle Ages. The absolute monarchy started a new regime with the centralized power and the King of supreme. The Baroque period generated a new form of art to worship the Church and the absolute authority. The Scientific Revolution led to a new era with a different world view and the development of rationality. However, these three movements built on one another and impacted the society in different directions, which will be discussed in the following. The absolute monarchy was a political system reform in order to deal with social turmoil. It was developing across Europe during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Around the middle of the seventeenth century, France experienced a religious strife that the various Parlements and the nobility started the revolution against the monarch. The Parlements and the nobility asked for the right to claim the power and weaken the King s regime. The nobility threw France into turmoil by pillaging and affrighting the innocent people. Under ... It is highly likely that increases in mental, emotional, and physical performance occur as well. However a trained and certified TR professional running the camp would know how to better conduct assessments and implement methods to plan an intervention in comparison to a TR intern. A major study that could come from this research is measuring the difference in social performance when the camp is completely administered by licensed TR professionals. One of the major Abrahamic religions, Islam, has made many advances and has contributed a variety of concepts, ideas and inventions to western civilization. Most of these contributions have gone unnoticed throughout the years, and have been credited by various people, when in reality Muslim scholars have formulated these concepts. Although some may believe that these contributions are irrelevant, the reality is that most of the everyday concepts humans use all around the world, have been derived from a primarily Islamic school of thought. In 622 CE, a new world religion, Islam, emerged. The founder, a man by the name of Prophet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While Europe was struggling during the Dark Ages, Islam was prospering greatly. Muslim intellectual centers were slowly growing over the Asian African continent. While first only Africa and India were present as the major Islamic areas, the Islamic empire soon grew to the areas of the Indonesian islands and China. This combination of the cultures of the Arabs, Indians, Turks, Chinese, and Persians is contrasting to the popular belief that Islam is a discriminatory race, while actually all of these cultures along with countless smaller groups aided in the contribution of the construction of the Islamic civilization. The main logic behind this intellectual boom in the Islamic civilization is due to the statement made by Prophet Muhammad, which goes as the following: the ink of scholars is more precious than the blood of martyrs. These words from the Prophet served as the impetus of the movement, as scholars from all around attempted to seek out the intellectual treasures hidden within the minds of themselves and their cultures. The unabridged list of the accomplishments made during the Golden Age is too lengthy to mention. However, the major subject areas of advances were in the fields of Science, Mathematics, Medicine, Culture and Education. Explain some of the problems involved in sterilizing delicate and heat sensitive instruments such as endoscopes, catheters, etc. * Although sterilizing instruments for procedures is an effective way to reduce the risk of contamination, not all instruments are able to endure the level of heat with this process. Many endoscopes, for example, are flexible to allow for the ease of movement in the body and are not made of sturdy material, but delicate ones. The heat used in sterilization could potentially damage the instrument creating a vehicle for bacteria to enter the body. Some delicate pieces could be destroyed and manipulated and introduce bacteria during a procedure, jeopardizing the health of a person. God gave us the gift of life for us to enjoy, so why do thoses who seek only enjoyment feel rejected and unsatisfied with their very being? Employment and Medical Leave Act Essay Family and Medical Leave Act The Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 (FMLA) was established to help protect employees who missed work for medical reasons. FMLA permits eligible employees to take up to 12 workweeks of unpaid leave during any 12 month period. (Martocchio, 2003) The Wage and Hour Division (WHD) is responsible for administrating and enforcing most of the labor laws, including FMLA. There are four reasons that an employee can claim FMLA. (Profesional Exchange Service Corporation, 2005) Even though the time off is unpaid to the employee, it is very disruptive to certain types of business such as call centers who need to schedule employees to cover busy call times with in their business. By having employees abusing this policy, it becomes harder and harder to staff some businesses. It is not only the employer that suffers; it is also the employees that are left to work when there peers off of work. Some of the other issues with the administration of the law are the vague diagnoses doctors give for the reasons employees should be off of work. In some cases, employees file under the FMLA law when in fact they may have a type of disability the employer could accommodate under the ADA law. Even though the intent of this act was to help protect employees, many believe that FMLA may be doing more harm to business that it was intended. It may be time to review and revamp this law, and have some of the items intergraded into the ADA in order for it to be better managed. Many believe that there are ways to improve this law to help protect employees as well as have the law not have a severe impact on businesses. References Cohen, D. G., McLeod, T. (2003, August 2003). I ve previously been told by my undergraduate professor that the story has no intrinsic meaning or value. I refuse to believe that is true. All stories can have multiple meanings that are buried deep beneath the text. It just requires an extensive analyzation of the short story. Why would the story be written if it had no meaning? Instead, you enter a world of ambiguous conversations surrounding suicide and nihilism. The short story introduces an ideology of agnosticism and atheism that challenges the ever powerful, and meaningful, religious ideologies. In this case, the agonistic worldview is oppressed compared to an ideal religious ideology. Another idealistic feature within the text is being youthful. The younger waiter in the story is privileged because he has many years ahead of him, a wife, and he believes he has a more meaningful life. The oppressed and unappealing people in the text would be the old deaf man and the old waiter that are in the story. With the younger waiter being privileged in the story, it is essential to challenge and reverse the powerful hierarchies that romanticize being youthful and having meaning in ones life. When the younger waiter refuses to let the old man stay and drink in the cafe he assumes that the old man can go drink elsewhere. He doesn t realize that he needs the cafe, because it is nicely lit and it is quiet. Not only is the waiter closing the cafe earlier than usual, but he mentions that an hour means more to him than it would to the old man. The text states, Why didn t you let him stay and drink? the unhurried waiter asked. They were putting up the shutters. It is not half past two. I want to go home to bed. What is an hour? More to me than to him. An hour is the same (381). At this point in the story, the older waiter is telling the young man that he was wrong for sending the old man away. When the younger waiter to state that his time is more valuable than the old man, this shows how the older people in the text are being oppressed. • 20. Theme Of Evil In The Kite Runner The majority of literature at its core, can display a power struggle between the forces of good and evil. These overarching ideas represent the human condition and how a certain state of being brings out these concepts from deep within the hearts of men. This is exemplified in Khaled Hosseini s The Kite Runner, in which evil permeates characters in the form of greed, abuse of power and deceit. The themes of evil act as an affliction on Amir s mind in his treatment of Hassan, within Baba s sins toward his family and religion and Assef, who s psychological insanity drove him toward cruel exploits of others. Amir s character represents a development of the human spirit. He is inherently good in his thoughts and actions early on in the story, but the reader can see him begin to evolve. The actions of others, more specifically his father and Hassan cause him to become plagued with aforementioned themes of evil. He sees himself largely influenced by greed and an ability to abuse his power over Hassan. The evil metamorphoses Amir into a character driven by self interest at the deprivation of others. Amir feels challenged for his father s love by Hassan and uses his social status and educated ability to impose himself over Hassan when they read together. This abuse of power shows the corruption within Amir that develops into greed as Baba continues to distance himself from Amir. This selfishness climaxes when Hassan is defiled by Assef and Amir says Nothing was free in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, in practice, different market conditions can cause investors to generate differential risk perceptions. Some studies argue that investor sentiment may augment to the price divergence between ADRs and their underlying stocks.  Heterogeneous Investor Sentiment Grossmann et al. (2007) perhaps is the first to investigate the relationship between consumer sentiment and ADR price differences. Using a fixed effects panel data approach, they provide evidence in support of the hypothesis that costly arbitrage factors influence ADR price differentials. 30 Moreover, they argue that sentiment could also help explain the mispricing of ADRs. Specifically, they test whether consumer sentiment (measured by consumer sentiment indices) help to explain the divergence between the prices of ADRs and that of their underlying assets. Their results suggest that the more optimistic U.S. consumers are the lower the ADR premiums. Based on the findings, they conclude that the prices of ADRs and that of the underlying stocks are more responsive to US consumer sentiment as to the consumer sentiment of the country of origin. • 34. Bohemian Rhapsody Essay Queen s cult classic hit Bohemian Rhapsody debuted in 1975; this single exploded and had sold more than one million copies by the start of 1976. During a period when rock was finding its roots Queen seized the opportunity to experiment with what could be accepted in mainstream music. Through thoughtful and decisive manipulation of musical elements such as tonality, harmony, form and lyrical undertones; Queen effectively conveys musical meaning and entertains listeners. Bohemian Rhapsody falls under a genre known as progressive rock. It s a genre that is characterised by the unorthodox take on form which incorporates aspects of other genres and often supports aspects of a classical form. This song is peculiar in that it has four sections, and lack of a chorus, these sections being; Intro (0:00 00:49), Ballad (00:49 3:02), Operatic verse (3:02 4:07), Hard Rock (4:07 4:54) and Outro (4:54 5:55). Malari Vaccines And Its Development KALU AGBAEZE Nov 4th , 2010 Dr. WADE JENNIFER Biosec 134 3735 MALARIA; VACCINES AND ITS DEVELOPMENT Malaria is a disease caused by a parasite called Plasmodium according to researches done by Center for Disease and Control. It is transmitted by mosquito bites and it is of major public health challenge in developing countries. It disproportionately affects poor people. Majority of malaria cases occur in the poorest countries of the world. (1). (2) Origin of the human malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum has become one of the most prevalent and lethal of the malaria parasites infecting humans despite the fact that its evolutionary history remains controversial and unresolved. (Nature, The International Weekly Journal of Science No.7314 23 September, 2010). Researches done by Weimin Liu and associates to characterize Plasmodium species using DNA sequence in faecal samples from wild living apes indicated Plasmodium infections in Gorilla and Chimpanzees from the nearly 3000 specimens collected. These Plasmodium infections were prevalent in Chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes) and western gorillas (Gorilla gorilla), but not in gorilla found from the eastern part of central Africa known as Gorilla beringei and bonobos also known as Pan paniscus. The findings also indicated that ape plasmodial infections were highly prevalent, well distributed and is most of the time are made up of mixed parasites species. This interesting research findings shows that P. falciparum originated from gorilla and not chimpanzee, bonobo or even ancient human origin. Malaria Complications Malaria, which is caused mainly by Plamodium species, is transmitted to human beings by the bite of infected Anopheles mosquitoes. • 36. The Importance of Ethics in the Workplace Essay The Importance of Ethics in the Workplace In their personal and professional lives, people can and, unfortunately, sometimes do go against their moral and ethical standards. Ethical standards are what it means to be a good person, the social rules that govern our behavior. Ethics in business is essentially the study of what constitutes the right and wrong or the good or bad behavior in the workplace environment. A business is an organization whose objective is to provide goods or services for profit. The organization has a group of people that work together to achieve a common purpose. The moral challenges that these men and women face each day along with a whole range of problems that could occur, are why ethics plays such an important ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mary Fallin in Oklahoma: It s hard at times to find people that will take the high road, and that s why we see so many of the scandals we ve seen, like WorldCom and Enron, said Fallin. It s not what happens to you that determines where you are in life, but its how you respond to what happens to you. (Smith, 2005, 7) What a valuable employee, Sue definitely took the high road and handled that dilemma with integrity. Each person has many reasons for being ethical. Some reasons can be: inner beliefs, habits, virtue because it is its own reward, personal advantages, it s good business, there is approval, being an ethical person can lead to self esteem, the admiration of loved ones and the respect of peers. There is also religion because it is believed that good behavior can please or help serve a deity. Ethical actions can fit in with upbringing or training. Ethics starts with the individual employee choosing the right or wrong decision. The second ethical dilemma that our group provided was one that dealt with sexual harassment. Sexual harassment encompasses a wide range of unwelcome sexual conduct. • 37. Chlorpromache Research Paper This week I learnt about chlorpromazine, which is an antipsychotic. It is also used in short term management of anxiety, agitation or disturbed behaviour in non psychotic disorders. Chlorpromazine is an antagonist of many receptors, which include α1 adrenoceptor, M3 muscarinic receptor, H1 Histamine receptor, 5HT2 receptor, dopamine D2 receptor and angiotensin II AT1 receptor. This illustrates one of the pharmacology principles, which is selectivity of a drug. A highly selective drug ( clean drug ) binds to only one receptor or molecular target whereas a drug having low selectivity ( dirty drug ) will bind to many targets in the body. Binding upon many receptors can produce many effects but some effects are not desired. For example, chlorpromazine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Morphine mimics endogenous opioids and activates opioid receptors in the central and peripheral nervous systems. Opioid receptors are G protein coupled receptors which are coupled to Gi protein. Upon binding of morphine to opioid receptors, it triggers the inhibition of adenylate cyclase enzyme and ultimately stops the firing of impulses for nociceptive information. After repeated activation of opioid receptors by morphine, some receptors can be desensitised and binding of morphine to these receptors can no longer stops the neurotransmission. As a consequence, tolerance to morphine develops. When a drug is used repeatedly over time, tolerance can develop as the body adapts to the presence of the drug in the body. Therefore, a higher dose is required to achieve the same desired effect. For example, for morphine, if tolerance develops, a higher dose is needed in order to attain the same analgesic effect. Moreover, one of the adverse effects of morphine when it is used for long term to relieve pain is physical dependence. Dependence develops as a result of tolerance, leading to a resetting of homeostatic mechanisms that require the continued presence of drug for normal function. Therefore, if chronic treatment is stopped suddenly or an antagonist is given, withdrawal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, sweating, anxiety can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In contrast, pathways had a stronger effect on depressive symptoms than agency for women, but this effect was only small. These findings suggest that agency and pathways are possibly related to depressive symptoms differently for men and women. Findings from the current study are consistent with existing research in suggesting mixed results relating to the effects of agency and pathways. Research that has investigated the unique contribution of agency and pathways has yielded inconsistent results in relation to the effects on depressive outcomes. Some studies have indicated that the motivational component of agency to be more predictive in the maintenance of psychological well being (Arnau et al., 2007; Cramer Dyrkacz, 1998; Lopez et al., 2003), whereas other studies have suggested that the ability to formulate alternate routes to goal attainment in the form of pathways is a better predictor of psychological adjustment (Elliot et al., 1991; Irving, Snyder, Crowson, 1998). Specifically, Chang (2003) investigated these variables among a sample of middle aged men and women. They will believe that they are not smart or pretty and grow up thinking that they are damaged and are good for nothing. I will compare the performance of people with intact brains with the performance of so called split brain patients. In many ways, the brains of these two groups are very similar. 1a. The brain stem is found in the deepest part of the brain. The brainstem controls the automatic survival functions of the body, such as breathing. There are no differences between the function of the normal brainstem and the brain of a split brain patient. The brainstem will still supply the automatic survival functions of the body. 1b. The hippocampus is found in the limbic system along with the amygdala, the hypothalamus. The hippocampus is in charge of allowing the body to process information into memories. Without the hippocampus, there is no way for new memories to be created. There is no anatomical difference between the hippocampus in the normal brain and a split brain. 1c. The corpus callosum is found in the center of the brain. Procedural Programming Of Programming Languages Programming Languages Definition of the term program A program in computing is a predefined list of instructions that, when run or executed , tell a computer to carry out a task and how to it. Overview of procedural, object orientated and event driven programs In programming, there are many different paradigms, also known as structures or styles that allow the programmer a means to build or structure different elements within a computer program. These paradigms are: procedural, event driven and object orientated. Applications that can be developed using these paradigms Procedural programming uses a list of instructions to tell the computer what to do step by step. Procedural programming relies on you guessed it procedures, also known as routines or subroutines. A procedure contains a series of computational steps to be carried out. Procedural programming is also referred to as imperative programming. Procedural programming languages are also known as top down languages. Procedural programming is intuitive in the sense that it is very similar to how you would expect a program to work. If you want a computer to do something, you should provide step by step instructions on how to do it. It is, therefore, no surprise that most of the early programming languages are all procedural. The procedural paradigm uses a list of instructions as a basis. These tell the computer what to do, and how to do it step by step. The procedural paradigm does rely on subroutines or ... Gender And Gender Aspects Of Gender In Everyday Life Gender in Everyday Life Shyana Burks Diggins Community College of Aurora Gender in Everyday Life In today s culture, I see gender being a person s master status. In most aspects of my life, I notice that gender overrides other statuses such as my race or occupation. I believe gender does this because of the way it is instilled in every social institution. I imagine it is hard to inquire about my experiences without it coming from a woman s perspective. It s not what it means to be college educated, but what does it mean to be a college educated woman, and not what does it mean to be black, but what does it mean to be a black woman. Parenthood is near impossible to be understood without seeing it through a gender experience. Although gender is a social construction, it dictates individuals in a way that I cannot imagine any other social concept could. As I recorded my actions throughout the day, I realized that there are a lot of them that are dictated by my gender. I recorded over 50 actions and I am sure that I could have recorded differently depending on the kind of day. I recorded around 10 15 actions just from the daily aspect of getting ready and clothing. For example, I thought I chose my clothing depending on how I felt that day, but I realized small things like my choice of underwear was never of my volition. Depending on the kind of pants I wore, I wanted to avoid a panty line not only for fashion s sake but because that will affect future interactions with the other sex. With my experience, I see that men pick the underwear that will suit their comfort level, like if they want to wear briefs for exercising or boxers for a less active setting. Some of my actions I instantly knew were gendered, like my application of makeup to uphold a feminine standard or even the change of inflection of my voice when I talk to customers on the phone. As a woman and a consumer, I know that when I speak to a representative about an issue I expect empathy. A representative conveys that through smiling through the phone . There is increasing realization that one cannot engage in war using the conventional means. Assassination though is not a just means of engaging in warfare as explained by Gross (2010) since there is no basis of choosing who is a terrorist engaging in warfare and who is not a terrorist. Nelson Mandela was labeled a terrorist by the South African government but he subsequently became a head of state and leader of South Africa. If assassination was used as a tool to eliminate him then it would complicate the justification of assassination as stated by White (2012) as a tool to eliminate terrorists in the event of a war.
