Essay on juan peron
Juan Domingo PerГіn is known as the greatest Argentinean politician of all time. However, he is
also one of he most controversial. His tactics and alliances are often criticized as are the changes
and developments he brought about in Argentina. The one thing that can be concluded by all is that
this man led a very complex and important life.
PerГіn was born on October 8, 1895, in a province of Buenos Aires. He was the second son of Mario
and Juana PerГіn. His father was an employee of the local court. When Juan was five years old his
father abandoned the family. To make ends meet, Juana married a man whom was a farm hand.

In 1945 he was arrested and was forced to resign. That upset his followers. They got him released
through protests and demonstrations.
In 1946 with the help of his wife Eva PerГіn, he rose to power and was elected president. Eva
helped Juan in may ways. When she tried to run for vice president she was denied mainly because
many of the military leaders felt threatened. She kept on helping PerГіn by keeping him in contact
with he countries labor unions. Eva or Evita died in 1952 of cancer.
PerГіn set out to make Argentina the military and financial power of Latin America. This was a
tough task though since PerГіn had many oppositions. PerГіn used censorship and other violations
of
Civil rights to help control his oppositions. The catholic church was one of them.
The catholic church was in an uproar when PerГіn pushed for the policy of divorce. They reformed
and revolted and forced PerГіn to flee. Both the army and the navy felt it was best for the country
if PerГіn resigned. PerГіn resigned and moved to Spain. Even though PerГіn was out of Argentina
his followers or quot;peronistas quot;, as they were called, stayed active.
In 1970 Argentina was going through a time of economic trouble. The quot;peronistas quot; gained
strength during these times. In 1973 was asked to return to Argentina. He was elected president

Oolite Boulders In Research Paper
Why do you need Oolite boulders? When planning a landscape project, many people will focus
on selecting trees, shrubbery, flowers, and other plants. Nonetheless, there are other aspects of a
landscape design needed to make it perfect. Boulders, paving stones, decorative gravel, water
features, and garden walls are hardscape features that will add beauty and elegance to your outdoor
space. Adding hard materials and build structures will add dimension, character, and artistry to your
landscape, makes it stand out from your neighbor s yard. Oolite boulders are a versatile material,
with a uniquely Floridian charm, that can perform aesthetic and functional duties. No matter the
landscape design idea, using natural boulders will add flare and make

1970 s Music Videos
Back in the 1970 s music videos were already able to be produced by record companies and were
being used in promotional sites. This was thanks to technology that was created in the 1950 s by
French artists (Serge Gainsbourg, François Hardy, Jacques Dutronc) . They had created a
machine called the Cine box that would allow them to play a short film and a tape recording. The
videos they created were the beginnings of the music video that even involved lip syncing. Their
technology became more popular and advanced as it was used throughout the 60 s and so on by
popular bands and musicians. When the 70 s arrived people had already begun to insert short songs
throughout many films and from then on the music video continued

Lsc Restrictions
Since 1974 the Legal Services Corporation has worked to ensure access to legal assistance for
low income persons, and safeguard America s fundamental value of equal justice under the law.
As the costs of legal services continue to rise and the justice gap wherein 80 percent of the civil
legal need of low income Americans goes unmet continues to widen, LSC remains the single largest
funder of civil legal aidin the nation. Nevertheless, since 1981 the Heritage Foundation has called
for the elimination of LSC in their Mandate for Leadership book series affirming the following
arguments:
LSC violates restrictions set in the annual appropriations language which prohibits political
participation and involvement
Legal services would work more effectively if handled by local and state governments
Access to equal justice is not a responsibility of the federal government

Mahatma Gandhi and The Salt March Essays
In an effort to help free India from the British rule, Mahatma Gandhi once again contributed to a
protest against salt taxes, known as the Salt March. This protest advocated Gandhi s theory of
satyagraha or nonviolent disobedience as the nation came together on March 12, 1930 to walk the
241 miles long journey to the shores of Dandi to attain salt. Although some Indians criticized
Gandhi for not achieving direct independence from the Raj or British rule, Gandhi s execution of
the Salt March helped to create a stronger nation for the Indians to live in. Gandhi motivated the
Indians to act robustly against the injustices of the salt taxes through nonviolent means. This caused
Gandhi to create a temporary compromising pact between Gandhi and... Show more content on

Gandhi believed that if the Satyagrahis maintained a strong posture, then satyagraha would
become even more effective. Unfortunately, after the trip to Dandi, Gandhi was arrested as a
consequence for the execution of Salt March along with the other protesters who were involved
in buying, selling, or making salt (Gold 86). However, while being held captive, a poet and a
close associate of Gandhi, Mrs. Sarojini Naidu, took an advantage of the new attention that the
Satyagrahis and Gandhi had aroused by leading another protest on the Dharsana Salt Works,
which caused intense physical harm to the protestors. Anne Todd asserts that as a leader of this
particular protest, Naidu inspired and reminded the Satyagrahis that even though Gandhi s body is
in jail...his soul is with you. India s prestige is in your hands. You must not use any violence under
any circumstances. You will be beaten but you must not resist; you must not even raise a hand to
ward off blows (66). As the demonstrators approached the site, they encountered the British police
officers who were trying to block them and were brutally bashing these Indians with five foot long
steel tipped clubs (Todd 66). Despite the British effort, these satyagrahis relentlessly marched
forward. Ved Mehta points out a correspondent for United Press, Webb Miller, who reports on the
incident at the Dharsana Salt Works:

God s Caring For Israelites Research Paper
God s miraculous care for Israel was astonishing when the Israelites were in the wilderness. He
used His incredible powers to make it possible for the Israelites to live and grow in His
faithfulness. He provided manna, water, clothes, and shoes, Nothing can compare to what he did
for them. The manna that God provide was on the ground in the desert. There on the ground was
bread. They each divided it among every person who needed it and it lasted for 40 some days. The
bread looked like coriander seed and tasted like wafers with honey. They ate it like cakes. God is so
miraculous, He made water come out of a rock. At Rephidim God used Moses to provide water out
of a rock. God told Moses to beat the rock until water scattered

way you can employee your virtual assistant to your advantage.

Romans 14-17
Children of God
Romans 8:16 tells us that The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children
of God. This is a doctrine that receives strong emphasis in the LDS church. From the time they
enter Primary they sing the hymn I am a Child of God. In Young Women s they recite We are
daughters of our Heavenly Father, who loves us and we love him. As LDS members, they live their
lives knowing that they have a loving Father in Heaven. Though other Christian churches share the
belief that God is the Father, their understanding of this fact is different than the LDS view. Other
churches interpret the scripture block Romans 8:14 17 to mean that we are adopted children of
God, whose adoption is conditional on our good behavior ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

To claim a God as our parent is either to claim ourselves as Godkind, or claim that God is human.
However, we are told that God made us in His own image, not just in appearance, but in form.
LDS members do not believe that God is Eternal Spirit (ucg) but rather that he is material and
humanoid (bills). Though there is a difference between God and mankind, LDS doctrine tells us
that The difference...may be one of advancement...rather than one of kind or ontological
difference (white). We are the offspring of God, not just in form, but also in disposition: Bills
tells us that contrary to the popular belief of learned men, man is created in both the physical
and moral image of God (Bills). In all senses of the word, we are a chip off the old block. Though
not yet posessing the power of God, as his children, we have the potential to be Gods. The
number one thing we must understand is that even though God is infinitely more than us, he is
also similar to us. He is our Father, and we are His children, therefore there must be similarity.
However, if you believe that we are merely adopted children of God, we lose out on this great
insight into the character of

Laurel Creek Health Care Center V. Bishop Essay
Laurel Creek Health Care Center v. Bishop
Court of Appeals of Kentucky,____S.W.3d___(2010)
FACTS
Gilbert Bishop was admitted to Laurel Creek Health Care Center on July 23, 2002, after arriving
via ambulance without family present. During that examination, Gilbert communicated to Laurel
Creek staff that he could not use his hands well enough to write or hold a pencil. Gilbert was
otherwise found to be mentally competent. Gilbert s sister, Rachel Combs, arrived after Gilbert, she
offered to sign the admissions forms, but Laurel Creek employees told her that it was their policy
to have the patient s spouse sign the admissions papers if the patient was unable to sign them.
Rachel also testified that Gilbert asked her to get his wife, Anna ... Show more content on

REASON
Laurel Creek first argues that this is a case of actual agency and that Anna Bishop has actual
authority as Gilbert s agent to sign the admissions paperwork as is therefore bound by the
arbitration agreement therein.
We agree with Laurel Creek that Gilbert created an actual agency relationship between him and his
wife. According to his sister, Rachel, Gilbert specifically asked that his wife be brought to the
nursing home so that she could sign the admissions documents for him, and Anna acted upon that
delegation of authority and signed the admissions papers. This is consistent with the creation of
actual authority as described in the Restatement (Third) of Agency В§ 2.01, comment c (2006). The
Restatement explains the rationale for the creation of actual agency in three steps. First, the
principal manifests assent to be affected by the agent s action. In the instant case, Gilbert asked that
Anna come to the hospital to sign the papers for him. Second, the agent s actions establish the
agent s consent to act on the principal s behalf. Here, Anna signed all the admissions papers per her
husband s request and therefore consented to act on Gilbert s behalf. Third, by acting within such
authority, the agent affects the principal s legal relations with third parties. Clearly here, Anna s
actions affected Gilbert s relations with Laurel Creek, a third party.
The trial court acknowledged that Gilbert had the

Essay on Franklin D. Roosevelt
Franklin Delano Roosevelt was born January 30, 1882. He was the only child. His parents were
James Roosevelt and Sara Delano Roosevelt. He was raised very fortunate because his family had
a lot of money. Franklin, at age fourteen, attended Groton School. For his undergraduate degree he
attended Harvard University. At Harvard he was elected editor in chief of the college paper.
Franklin looked up to his distant cousin, Teddy Roosevelt. He wanted to be in office just like Teddy
was. He ran for his first office in 1910 for New York s state Senator. With in three years he was

He then passed the Emergency Banking Act, which gave federal assistance to banks. He also
created the CCC, Civilian Conservation Corps, which paid young men to work on conservation
projects under the Army s supervision. He also created the AAA, Agricultural Adjustment act, too.
The AAA subsidized farmers for limiting acreage and taxed processors of products to pay for
subsidies, and many more.
Roosevelt s policies prevented the bottom from falling out of the American economy. He also did
his best to aid the Allies despite congress resistance. After the attack of Pearl Harbor, Franklin
knew how to handle things. He set up a front that met a very high goals of production levels. He
knew the only way the war could be won was by the country who had the most resources.
He also realized that peace after war would only be guaranteed by the great powers of the world so
he created the International Monetary Fund, the United States Nations, and he negotiated peace.
Although Roosevelt is often criticized by some of his decisions he made while in office, he
made many great changes to the American society. If I had to recommend this book to anyone I
would probably be honest and say don t waste your time unless you are in to biographies. To me
this was an extremely hard book to read just because it was so boring to me. On the other side I

Adenotonsillar Hyperplasia Research Paper
Enlarged palatine and pharyngeal tonsils is one of the most frequent occurrences in
otorhinolaryngology. (1) The adenotonsillar hyperplasia is the most common cause of respiratory
obstruction in children and unchains obstructive sleep disorders that include a variable group of
abnormalities such as snoring and sleep obstructive apnea syndrome. Moreover, these children
may present with a high incidence of recurrent infections of the upper airways with the frequent

Maggie a Girl of the Streets
Maggie: A Girl of the Streets, a novella written in 1893 by Stephen Crane, focuses on a poverty
stricken family living in the Bowery district of New York City. This novella is regarded as one
of the first works of naturalism in American literature and it helped shape the naturalistic
principle that a character is set into a world where there is no escape from one s biological
heredity and the circumstances that the characters find themselves in will dominate their
behavior and deprive them of individual responsibility. Throughout the story, the primary goal
of the main characters is to escape the lives they lead and to find more comfortable lives away
from their current problems, which differs from the romantic ideal that the main characters
usually turn inwards to solve their problems. In the opening stages of the novella, Maggie tries
to escape her troubling life through her relationship with Pete. As Maggie grows up, she
becomes a beautiful girl who hates her life in Rum Alley. She sees Pete as a savior who could
lead her away from her poverty stricken life and bring her into the world of leisure because he
introduces her to popular music, dances, and dramas, all of which seem extravagant to her.
Maggie begins to note the well dressed women she meets. She [envies the women s] elegance
(11). Most of the melodramas that Maggie watches with Pete show the American dream of a
person going from rags to riches, which is a goal that she thinks Pete will help her in achieve.

The Four Key Differences Between Project-Based...
BAM 514 International Business Management
Unit # 3
Question #1. Discuss the four key differences between project based collaborations and equity joint
ventures. As focal firms internationalize they often run into risks that are beyond their capabilities
to overcome by themselves. Consequently, many firms often conclude it makes sense to work with
a strategic partner with capabilities complimentary to their own to achieve certain projects. When
two or more firms come together to manage risks associated with internationalization, they form
international partnerships, or international strategic alliances. By working together, focal firms use
the capabilities, resources or other strengths of their partners to achieve projects they would
otherwise be unable to do alone. There are two basic forms of partnerships, Equity joint ventures
and Project based collaborations. To understand the differences between these two basic types of
partnerships it helps to understand how each is structured. (S. Tamer Cavusgil, Gary Knight, and
John R. Riesenberger, 2012. International Business: The New Realities. Second edition, page 411).
An Equity joint venture is a traditional partnership in which a new entity is created through the
combination of assets by two or more parent companies. Together, the firms share joint ownership
of the new legal entity. Typically, this may be a result of one firm not having all the resources or
assets necessary to exploit an opportunity, or it may be the only

Advocates for medicinal marijuana argue that clinical tests have established that marijuana has
definite and valid therapeutic values. It is the Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in marijuana that is the
active chemical component for the relief o pain and symptoms. Marijuana suppresses AIDS
related nausea and nausea in patients undergoing cancer chemotherapy, along with appetite loss
and abnormal pressure in the eye which leads to glaucoma, the #1 cause of blindness. Marijuana
is also believed to be a safe and inexpensive alternative in treating muscle spasms, epilepsy,
anorexia, asthma, insomnia, depression and other disorders. Marijuana is not only believed to help
with physical ailments, but psychological ones as well. A former chairman of the 1991 established
Office of Alternative Medicine s (OAM) Program Advisory Council said, When used appropriately,
marijuana could be extremely helpful to people undergoing certain kinds of emotional crises.
Then there is the opposition who says that there is still no consensus that confirms marijuana as a

Factors For Consider When Pick An Employee Schedule Template
Title: Factors to Consider When Pick an Employee Schedule Template Description If you have
been given the responsibility of picking an Employee Schedule Template try considering certain
factors which are quite important. An Employee Schedule Template is considered one of the
greatest methods of starting on creating employee schedules in organizations possessing
employees above a certain staff strength or size. These templates match the staffing
requirements of an organization with job profiles and employee availability. They are also of
good use in allotting the number of work hours by making use of staff scheduling software.
They help in getting employee spreadsheets that can easily be reused as per requirements.
Therefore, they are of good help in saving effort and time. Templates in good design offer
flexibility allowing an individual to work in different timings and seasons. There are some
advantages that need to be considered when picking employee work schedule templates and they
are as follows: User Friendly The people who are into designing rosters and shifts are not experts.
They need to have a user friendly employee work schedule template that can be handles very
easily. This is because even a small mistake in this field might mean a huge loss. Therefore, it is
important to make the choice of a vendor offering elegant and simple solutions and the one which
has the willingness to spend some time in training the staff on using an employee work schedule
template.

Iq Tests And Cultural Bias
Essay #3: IQ Tests and Cultural Bias There was a cartoon showing different animals, including an
elephant, fish, seal, and monkey, lined up by a tree in front of a man behind a desk. The man said
he was going to make a fair selection by giving them all the same test. The test was that they all had
to climb the tree. In this case, the monkey probably was the only one that thought the test was fair.
Welcome to the controversy over IQ (Intelligent Quotient) tests and cultural diversity. In 1904, a
French psychologist (Alfred Binet) created the first intelligencetest in order to help the French
Ministry of Education segregate children that may have difficulty learning in a regular classroom.
At that time, he did not know that his test would be the basis for IQ tests administered over 100
years later. He has a Stanford University psychologist, Lewis Terman, to thank for expanding his
work and creating the Stanford Binet intelligence test that took root in the United States in 1916
and is still popular today. However, along with its popularity came criticism. Critics see the current
version of the Stanford Binet test and other intelligence tests, despite attempts to make them
culturally fair, as limiting to individuals who are not from the major social norm. They claim that
cultural bias in test questions is why certain races do not perform as well as others on the test.
Psychologist Arthur Jensen stated the extent of the controversy best in the opening to his 1978
article,

rates for example unemployment, the relationship between the community and the police
departments, and possibly the ratio between social classes of high class, middle classes and low
classes. Also any political agendas, or even laws could affect the social economical differences
between metropolitan cities, disregarding the size of the population.

RECONSTRUCTING MEANING THROUGH EMBODIMENT пїЅпїЅпїЅ2
It was previously thought that once you complete the stages of grieving it eventually
comes to an end. However, new research has shown that it is in fact a life long process.
According to newer approaches to bereavement, the Dual Process Model (DPM) can help to
better understand the process of grief. Research done by Strobe and Schut (1999, 2001) on the
DPM reveals that the process ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

harnessed by the art therapist to allow the client a creative outlet to express intense and changing
emotions (Lister et. al, 2008, p. 248). The role of the art therapist is not to prohibit the
expression of negative emotions, but to help hold the space and contain these emotions in a safe
environment. Exploring emotions can not only be cathartic, but over time the exploration
through art making can help to reframe these emotions into something that is easier to carry.
In facilitating an art therapy group with adults who are bereaved and grieving, it was
apparent that art making allowed for exploration of both loss orientation an restoration
orientation. For the first session, the theme was around strength and groundedness. The group
began with the question of how do the adults define strength and groundedness in daily life and
closed with the poem Advice from a Tree (Shamir, 2016). The directive was kept fairly simple
and open ended, and the adults were instructed to trace their hand in any way to create a tree
from it using the medium of oil pastels. The

The Female Pilots Of The United States During World War II
During World War II, the United States had a shortage of pilots, and the leaders decided to train
women to fly military aircraft so male pilots could be released for combat duty overseas. The
group of female pilots was called the Women Airforce Service Pilots, WASP for short. Young
women between the ages of twenty one to thirty five, all civilian volunteers, flew almost every
type of military aircraft but were not considered to be formally militarized. The program began
in 1942, and was closed by 1944. But within this time frame, the female pilots flew sixty million
miles in every military aircraft and thirty eight died while serving their country as Army Air
Corps arsenal. It wasn t until many years later that the WASPS were finally given
acknowledgement of their services and recognized as veterans of war. One member, Anne
Chisholm Dessert Oliver, from Brandon Manitoba, Canada tells her story of her experience as a
member of the WASP s. Oliver, a French Canadian with dual citizenship knew at an early age she
wanted to fly. During a trip to Colorado with her father, Oliver experienced her first flight at the
county fair. It was at this moment she decided she wanted to become a pilot. Oliver s father
worked in the seed business and eventually moved to El Centro, California, where Oliver would
eventually begin her journey as an iconic female pilot. Oliver and a friend bought shares in a small

Native American Corn With Corn
WHAT IS POPPING WITH CORN?
Corn is a vegetable I consider a gift and so do Native Americans. It s known and appreciated around
the world as a multipurpose staple. Corn as we know it today was first founded as a wild grass
called Teosinte, it is believed to be over 80,000 years old, first discovered and cultivated by the
Inca s, and the Mayans almost 5,000 years ago. Scientist are still finding corn pollen in the in the
lakes beneath Mexico City. Corn was often planted with Squash and Beans and was lovingly
nicknamed the Three Sister s because they protected each other through the way they grew in
similitude and benefited each other space, and nutritional levels they were helpful against the

Media Influence On Lesbian Identity
Through the questionnaire and responses from all six participants, some dominant and overall
themes emerged. I found that the results of this investigation did and did not cooperate with my
initial hypothesis for reasons that I will explain more in the following paragraphs. The current
research both confirms and departs from existing research done on this topic, as there is a mixture
of lesbian representations including media and stereotypes having both positive and negative
influences on lesbian identity. As mentioned in the data results, the overall opinion by the group of
participants was that lesbian representations including media imagery and resulting stereotypes, did
not have a significant influence on lesbians self identity. When... Show more content on

Although majority of the participants said that they assumed media representations had
negative impacts on other lesbians identities and lesbian communities, it was also brought up
that it could and can be used as a positive influence on identity. One of the examples given by one
of the participants was the media s use in helping her realize she was a lesbian in the first place
by portraying lesbian women that she began to have sexual feelings for. Another women had
explained that she felt if a young girl was struggling with sexuality, media could possible provide
the outlet for her to not only learn about lesbian relationships but to help identify herself as one
as well. It is through Gomillion s article that we can relate to the medias positive influence on
lesbian identity where she explains, media had influenced self realization, coming out, and
current identities by providing role models and inspiration and also media role models serve as
sources of pride, inspiration, and comfort (330). We can see that media has the potential to aid
and contribute positivity to lesbians self identity, if only we can move from the stereotypical and
unrealistic representations so dominantly used. The participants also expressed a sense of media s
growing potential to have a positive influence on lesbian identity. The history of lesbian invisibility
and the vast number of lesbians and lesbian relationships currently on mainstream media has the
potential to greatly impact how lesbians are viewed and thus how they may look at themselves. As
lesbianism becomes more of a norm and less of a fetish and a broader variety of lesbian women are
brought into the mainstream hopefully including different races, classes, abilities,

Erik The Red s Role In Viking History
Erik the Red was a Norwegian Viking that was born in the 10th Century C.E, and his life
contributed significantly to the outstanding legacy of the Vikings through his explorations. It is
through the discovery of Greenland and its later settlement that cast Erik the Red s legendary
adventures into folklore. These two events are how Erik the Red played his role in Viking history,
not through warfare, but through explorations. The adventures undertaken, and the feats achieved

All businesses are affected by national and global economic factors. National and global interest
rate and fiscal policy will be set around economic conditions. The climate of the economy dictates
how consumers, suppliers and other organizational stakeholders such as suppliers and creditors
behave within society.
An economy undergoing recession will have high unemployment, low spending power and low
stakeholder confidence. Conversely a booming or growing economy will have low unemployment,
high spending power and high stakeholder confidence.
A successful organization will respond to economic conditions and stakeholder behavior.
Furthermore organisations will need to review the impact economic conditions are having on their
competitors and respond accordingly.
In this global business world organisations are affected by economies throughout the world and not
just the countries in which they are based or operate from. For example: a global credit crunch
originating in the USA contributed towards the credit crunch in the UK in 2007/08.
Cheaper labour in developing countries affects the competitiveness of products from developed
countries. An increase in interest rates in the USA will affect the share price of UK stocks or
adverse weather conditions in India may affect the price of tea bought in an English cafГ©.
A truly global player has to be aware of economic conditions across all borders

A Room Of One s Own And Terry Eagleton Analysis
There are many different theories you can look for when reading literature. You have five of
Terry Eagleton s theories which are reader s response, feminism, psychological view, and
historical, and formalism. There is Nietzsche s theory where he believes everything is a metaphor,
everything can be interpreted differently by the reader. Emerson s theory is transidlism and
existentialism. Transidlism is when someone will accept that there are miracles in the world.
Existentialism is when someone doesn t believe there are miracles. The last theory is the chaos
theory where everything is connected to everything, one thing sets off a chain reaction, and the
whole world is affected by it. You can see these different theories in Virginia Woolf s

been so thwarted and hindered by other people, so tortured and pulled asunder by her own contrary

Finally you notice Emerson s theory of transidlism which is someone who believes in miracles.
Woolf believes that there can be miracles for women. For my belief is that if we live another
century or so I am taking of the common life which is the real life and not of the little separate
lives which we live as individuals and have five hundred a year each of us and rooms of our

escape a little from the common sitting room and see human beings not always in their relation

Essay on Shel Silverstein
amp;#9;Few writers of the twentieth century have made nearly the same impact on the literary
society than Sheldon Allan Silverstein. His writing encompasses a broad range of styles, from
adult to children s, comical to unusual. One of his most common styles was that of fantasy: actions
and events that cannot logically happen. This style was evident in his works, the Loser, ThumbFace,
Warning, Squishy Touch, and Skin Stealer. Through the description of these absurd circumstances,
Silverstein was able to entertain readers of all ages.

The problem occurs in the story when the person cannot find the head because almost all
sensory perception went along with the head. In the end, the person says, amp;quot; . . . I guess
I ll sit down / On this rock / And rest for just a minute . . . . amp;quot; (p. 25). The rock, as the
picture accompanying the poem shows, turns out to be the person s lost head. This story is
obviously impossible considering the biological fact that when a person is decapitated, his/her life
ceases. However, with the use of simple end rhyme and an amusing story, Silverstein is able to
present a light hearted view of what could have been a tragedy.
amp;#9;Thumb Face, included in A Light in the Attic, is another example of Silverstein s use of
fantasy. The first line of the poem basically says it all: amp;quot; There is a face upon my thumb .
. .. amp;quot; (p. 55). For all practical purposes, this is an absurd situation. The speaker goes on to
describe the features of the small face on his/her thumb. Certain descriptions of the face imply a
sense of minuteness and leave the reader feeling compassionate for it because of its size. For
example, Silverstein wrote, amp;quot; It has a little twisty mouth, / And yellow teethies, too.
amp;quot; Again, Silverstein uses end rhyme in the pattern of amp;quot;a b c b, amp;quot; which
helps move the story along in a definite rhythm. While the subject matter is irrational, Silverstein
uses vivid descriptions and a straightforward picture

Figurative Language In Edgar Allan Poe s The Raven
Quoth the Raven, Nevermore is undoubtedly one of the most popular lines ever written in poetry.
Even those unfamiliar with the works of the author that uttered this will have some faint inkling of
recognition when met with this line. However, those who examine and take the time to analyze the
stylistic elements of poetryrecognize that techniques like symbolism, figurative language, and
repetition, such as the repetition of the phrase nevermore, are designed to impact the reader and are
utilized by the author to create a desired effect. Edgar Allan Poe, the poet responsible for many
works of literature such as The Raven, Annabel Lee, The Haunted Palace uses symbolism, extended
metaphor, and repetition to make the mood of his poems... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A prominent example of extended metaphor is when Edgar Allan Poe utilizes the symbol of a
palace/castle in The Haunted Palace to represent someone s mind. At the beginning, Poe writes,
Once a fair and stately palace Radiant palace reared its head / In the monarch Thought s
dominion, It stood there! At this point in the poem, the palace, or mind, is fair and working well.
Later, however, Poe begins to describe how ...evil things, in robes of sorrow/ Assailed the
monarch s high estate introducing a shift from the previously happy image of a calm, beautiful
palace, now somber and ghastly. The tone of the poem, through introducing this extended
metaphor, thus shifted to become sorrowful and regretful. Another popular example of repetition
from Poe s work is the repetition of the phrase, Nevermore, throughout The Raven. At the
beginning, when the bird just arrived, nevermore represented hope, such as when Poe writes, Till
I scarcely more than muttered Other friends have flown before /On the morrow he will leave me,
as my Hopes have flown before. / Then the bird said Nevermore. This shows that the bird showed
up as symbol to comfort the narrator and distract him from Lenore s death. However, throughout the
poem, phrase nevermore begins to get more and more frustrating, as now, the raven is using it to

vital role in maintaining the heat balance on the earth by absorbing the infrared radiation received
from the sunand re emitted by the earth. Infact, it is known as the greenhouse effect , which keeps
the earth warm enough to sustain life on the earth. The atmospherehas broadly three categories like
major, minor and traces compounds.
Major components N2 (78.09%), O2 (20.94%) and water vapour (0.1 to 5%).
Minor components Argon (0.93%), CO2 (0.32%).
Trace components Neon, Helium, Methane, Krypton, Nitrous Oxides, Xeon, SO2, NO2, NH3, CO,

Whatever Holden judges, it is not written law. It is an unwritten law, the law of death and evil.
Judge Holden represents a demonic character, larger than life, with a cruel soul.
The Imbecile, James Robert, exemplifies the Judge s god like power. Once the Judge rescues
James from drowning and after a sort of mock baptism, the once wild man becomes docile and
shadows the Judge s every movement. Judge Holden leading the imbecile around on a leash is
similar to a king being followed by his fool. The imbecile is another creature the Judge controls
by allowing to exist. One reason he allows the imbecile to live, while killing so many others, may
be as a way to show his superiority to Glanton. While Glanton has a mere dog as a pet, the Judge
has an actual human as a pet.
Another example of Judge Holden s god like behavior occurs as he is pursuing the Kid and
Tobin. Throughout the novel, whenever the Judge set out to accomplish a task, he succeeds.
While the Kid is drinking water in the bone filled ravine, the Judge shoots at the Kid and misses.
The Judge is an excellent marksman and has a clear shot. However, at this point, he allows the Kid
to live. Instead of shooting to kill, the Judge s shot serves as a way to control the Kid; to maintain
his suzerainty over the weakest member of the group.
Judge Holden controls through destruction and pure evil, only he perseveres and triumphs, while
others fail, including the Kid.

Essay On Bringing Crime To America
The facts aren t known because the media won t report on them, Donald Trump declared during
his immigration speech in Phoenix on Wednesday. A few hours earlier, the Republican nominee
had been in Mexico City, where he had held a joint press conference with the Mexican President,
Enrique PeГ±a Nieto, and lauded Mexican Americans as amazing people . . . just beyond
reproach. In Phoenix, flanked by American flags, he struck a different tone. Trump warned the
crowd that if Clinton were elected, America would be inundated by a new wave of illegal
immigrationthat would result in thousands of more violent, horrible crimes, and total chaos and
lawlessness.
Again and again in his Presidential campaign, Trump has issued sweeping assertions about how
immigrants are bringing crime to America. Wednesday offered only the latest, and loudest,
example. Examining these claims is instructive, not for what they tell us about Trump but for what
they reveal about immigrants, whose relationship to crime is greatly misunderstood. If you live in a
city that has become less dangerous in recent decades, a growing body of evidence suggests that
you actually have immigrants to thank.
When Trump kicked off his campaign, last year, he accused Mexico of sending rapists and
criminals to America. This was a patently outrageous claim, and there was no evidence behind it.

The Importance Of Having A Car On Students
Being a freshman at Regis is not easy, due to are already at a disadvantage of not having your car

that brings us to and from Riverside and the Natick Mall the scheduled times are not beneficial.
Regis should have the shuttle be more accessible to students more frequently. As a freshman who is
not allowed to have a car on campus I find it inconvenient that the shuttle to the NatickMall comes
every three to five hours.
A major aspect of a college education is students learning independence and freedom; therefore
creating a schedule at the students disposal will allow them to learn that independence and gain
that freedom.

As stated, Framingham State has shuttles that stop at multiple locations, which allows students to

the Regis shuttle should include AMC Theater, Shopper s World, and Target. Many would argue
that AMC Theater is very close in distance to the Natick Mall, and may ask why the passengers of
the shuttle cannot walk to the theater? An intersection similar to the one behind the mall can get
busy and is very dangerous at night if one is not careful. Adding Shopper s World being added as a
destination shuttle s route would be beneficial to the students taking it because there are so many
stores in the shopping area. Therefore, it would limit the amount of time and money a student will
spend on going to multiple stores via uber or public transportation. Another location that the shuttle

it is a store that has everything a college student uses in their daily lives. Another flaw in Regis

Social Criticism In The Hunger Games And Alice s Adventures In Wonderland Off with their
heads! (Carroll 122) could be the motto of Suzanne Collins bestseller The Hunger Games.
Published in 2008, the novel tells the dystopian story of Katniss, a young girl who has to
participate in a fight to death tournament with 23 other teenagers. Connoisseurs might have
recognized the quotation of the classic Alice s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, first
published in 1865. Mostly known as a children s book, the novel depicts the story of Alice a girl
that finds herself in a wonderland, where she meets many curious people and gets confronted with

The capriciousness of the Queen s decisions becomes even more obvious when Alice attends a
trial where the Knave of Hearts is accused for having stolen some tarts which the Queen had
made. Not only that the reason for this charge seems ridiculous but when finding no evidence the
Queen just overrules the jury and the judge, which again underlines the oppressive power she
possesses. Both novels, The Hunger Games and Alice s Adventures in Wonderland, therefore
succeed in depicting arbitrary measures and brutality as a way to portray government oppression,
personified by the Gamemakers and the Queen of Hearts. Being confronted with this oppression,
both girls think about which place they take and self reflect their identities. According to Erik
Erikson, an important developmental psychologist and psychoanalyst, identity formation is one
of the key tasks of adolescence. (Beck, Earl 77). Relating to that, both novels deal with the
fundamental topic of children s development. Katniss, although being only age 16, can be
described as comparatively mature, at first glance. Since her father died in a mine accident, she
has to replace him in being the breadwinner of the family. On closer examination, however, one
discovers Katniss immaturity: she doesn t seem to be able to organize her feelings, which lets her
appear stubborn in some ways. This is for instance shown in the relationship to her mother who

They are given meaning in the minds of managers through processes of selective attention and
simplification (Pfeffer and Salancik 1978). Otherwise managers could not possibly cope with
the myriad of trends and events that must be organized, analyzed for patterns, and acted upon.
Managers therefore adopt a customer focused or competitor centered perspective to help
simplify their environment and decide what information is to be gathered and how it is to be
screened and interpreted. Simplification comes at a cost, which is the risk that only a partial and
biased picture of reality is created. A competitor centered perspective leads to a preoccupation
with costs and controllable activities that can be compared directly with corresponding activities
of close rivals. Customer focused approaches have the advantage of examining the full range of
competitive choices in light of the customers needs and perceptions of superiority, but lack an
obvious connection to activities and variables that are controlled by management. Clearly a
balance of the two characteristic perspectives is needed. In practice most businesses tilt in some
cases very sharply toward one or the other. A significant complication in the search for a balanced p

Before the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) reformed the executive compensation
disclosure requirements regarding inside debt in 2006, it is very difficult to find out information
related to the deferred compensation. Therefore, following Sundaram and Yermack (2007), the
data set used in this paper for the period before 2006 consists of the pension data only, and
ignores the minority of the cases for which deferred compensation data are available. Sundaram
and Yermack (2007) calculate the actuarial present values of each CEO s pension at the end of
each fiscal year. They calculated the actuarial present value of a CEO s pension by using the
following formula
∑_(n=maxв
ЃЎ(0,R A))^(K A)в–’p(n)X/гЂ–(1+d)гЂ—^n
Where X is the annual pension amount, R is the minimum retirement age, A is the CEO s current
age, p(n) is the probability that the CEO is alive n years in the future, collected separately for
male and female CEOs from the actuarial tables published by the U.S Social Security
Administration, d is the cost of long term debt, and K is the terminal year of the pension (maximum
is set 120). Collecting pension data following the above procedure is time consuming. It involves
checking each company s proxy statement, and identifying the disclosed annual pension payments
in matrix form, as required by the SEC.

Similarities Between Letters To Alice And Fay Weldon
Education has been a complex concept and remains a relevant notion in texts across time.
Women were encouraged to pursue an education in both the regency period and the 20th century.
But the type of education encouraged for women in the regency period differs substantially from
the kind offered in the 20th century as they were shaped through the respective contexts of their
surroundings. This is evident when comparing Jane Austen s 1813 Regency social satire Pride and
Prejudice, and Fay Weldon s 1984 postmodern epistolary work, Letters to Alice, as both texts
manifest how changes in their social context have resulted in the altered position of the type of
education encouraged for women, through the inclusion of different language features, ... Show

The trees within the image is positioned to symbolise the females within the regency period and the
20th century. On the left page, from the sky, symbols of music, art, statues of dancers and the
modern languages are pouring down to nourish these trees, highlighting the type of education that
was encouraged for women in the regency period. Under these trees there are symbols of music,
art, dance and modern languages hanging off their branches to symbolise the acquired education
that regency females received from their nourishment. The page on the right hand side highlights
trees and fertile seeds growing with an invisible force from the sky to indicate that the spectrum for
education towards women is not constricted. This indicates that females were encouraged to
participate in all the various types of education. Subsequently, the trees produce different symbols
of education, such as books, universities and career pathways. In between these two types of trees
there is a line which separates these two to represent that although females from both periods were
encouraged towards education, both differ in the type of education they were encouraged as a
result of their context. Thus, as a result of their context the items in which these trees grow are

Eugene Peterson Essay
Eugene Peterson and Bono are two completely diverse men, but together, they make quite an
intriguing pair of friends. Eugene Peterson, an American born clergyman, scholar, professor
author, and poet is known for creating The Message: The Bible in Contemporary Language
translation. On the other hand, 30 years his junior, Irish born and raised, Bono, is best known as
the lead vocalist for the rock band, U2. However, these unlikely friends do have one thing in
common, their Christian faith. It was actually through Peterson s, The Message, that the two met
and became friends. Because of their Christian beliefs, they have used their calling, vocation, art
and media to impact culture for the sake of the Gospel. Both men have received the... Show more

During the video, their individual worldviews were shown through the various things they said
or sometimes, did not say. It was very clear in the video that Peterson is a professing Christian;
even a person who is not aware of all of his Christian books and teachings that he has produced
would come away agreeing that he is a Christian. In the video, Peterson references Christ when
he says, The world is violent and is the answer to that more violence or less? The answer is the
cross. Peterson is most well known for his Bible translation, The Message, which presents
scripture in modern day language. However, this version is quite controversial in Christian
circles because some feel that it water downs God word while others validate the translation.
Early on in the documentary, Peterson calls Bono a companion in the faith, however, Bono made
no comment about Christ even when Peterson brought up Jesus and in fact, he even said that he
is skeptical of Christians because he feels that they lack realism. He made it obvious that he was
not including himself as Christian when he said that. Based on the film, I am hesitant to label him
as a follower of Christ because of a lack of evidence that points to him being a Christian.
According to 1 John 4, we recognize the Spirit of God in someone when they acknowledge that
Jesus Christ has

What Is Stretching Essay
Benefits of Stretching
The body is flexible. It is supposed to be flexible. You must be able to bend and reach that
something you dropped on the floor. You must be able to zip the back of your favorite dress on
your own. You must be able to reach that book you need to read at the top shelf. These are simple
activities. Nothing grand about them, you merely stretched out a bit. However, if there are
difficulties in doing such simple motions, then you have to stretch your limits. You already need a
stretching program.
What Is Stretching?
Stretching is simply the act of extending to full length the body or simply a part of it. This activity
involves straightening or stretching the structure or the limbs.
How Does One Do the Stretching?
Stretching is fairly easy. As mentioned in the introduction, it is involved in the normal activities. It
can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It can be incorporated in the lifestyle and the daily activities. It does not require much of your
time. Stretching exercises can also be done while training. Actually, stretching is an essential
part of any training or sport. It must be done first before anything else. Stretching the body and
the limbs is a good preparation for a more rigorous activity. Most athletes would do the sit and
reach, wherein they position on the floor, extend their legs and reach the tip of their foot with the
tip of their hand. Actually, most trainers actually require their athletes to really do the stretching
before playing. There is actually an ideal length of time in stretching. It is best to do it in 10
minutes. This will give the body enough opportunity to move and flex the muscles, thus preparing
it for more complicated and strenuous movements. Experts however would frown upon going way
beyond 10 minutes. Stretching the exercise to 30 minutes or more will already wear out the body.
This will not be favorable if one is preparing for a

Laughter In A Midsummer Night s Dream
In A Midsummer Night s Dream, Shakespeare turns what might have been a tragedy into a comedy.
Christopher Fry s article, which appeared in Vogue magazine, reflects on the nature of comedy and
laughter and their relation to the big picture of life.
Responding to the Reading
1. What do you suppose Fry means when he says that Comedy is an escape, not from truth but from
despair ?
I think what Fry means by his quote is that comedy can be used as a coping mechanism. It is like
an escape because it takes your mind off of stressful things that are bothering or in his words the
despair. However, Fry says that comedy doesn t let you escape the truth which to me means it
distracts you just enough so that you are still aware of your issues but are still able to take your
mind off of what s bothering you.
2. Do you think that laughter is a way to deal with the tragedies we experience in life? Explain.
I think laughter is a good way to deal with the tragedies we experience in life. I agree that finding
humor in everyday life is important because laughter is good ... Show more content on

A lot of comedy comes from tragedy because there is beauty in every struggle, as odd as that may
sound. In the play there are many examples of comedy deriving from tragedy however, the most
memorable part is when Helena spoke. She describes how terrible she feels because of her
situation but as the play goes on it s becomes comical considering how fast her situation is
changed. The Athenian lovers all leave the woods and get married which means there is
someone who is heartbroken and this can be viewed as a tragedy. So that being said, without the
tragedy of heartbreak in the play then it is hard for there to be comedy. This is just one example
but it proves that if there is no tragedy which in this case for Midsummer s Night Dream is
heartbreak then there can be no comedy for the

poland history Essay
The Poles who were West Slavic people established Poland in the late 5th century. History was
first written in the 10th century about Poland when the Polish nation changed into Christianity in
966. Prince Mieszko I was the first ruler and his son, Boleslaw I, was the first king of Poland.
This established the Piast dynasty that lasted from 966 to 1370. During the Piast dynasty there
where Piast kings with a lot of rivalries from nobilityand Bohemian and Germanicinvasions that

After Polish troops were driven out of Moscow in 1613, Russia became more powerful. After
that Poland went into a time of war beginning in 1648, Ukrainian, Cossacks, marauding Tartars,
Turks, and Russians attacked Poland. The Swedes did the greatest damage. They conquered and
laid to waste almost the entire country in 1655. King John III Sobieski s victory over the Turks
at Vienna in 1683 recovered some of Poland s power but he couldn t stop the Russians and the
further loss of the eastern territory. During the reign of Augustus II (ruled 1697 1733), who was
the elector of Saxony, Poland was involved in the Great Northern War, which mainly took place in
Poland. The war of the Polish Succession was triggered when Augustus III became the new king of
Poland (Grolier).
Stanislaw II (ruled 1764 95), who was a puppet of Catherine II of Russia, was the last king of
Poland. The Confederation of Bar (1768), a French supported alliance of Polish nobles, was
formed from the Anti Russian feeling, but this was unable to prevent the dismemberment of
Poland by Russia, Prussia, and Austria. The constitution of May 3,1791 granted political rights to
burghers and peasants. Tadeusz Kosciuszko s national insurrection of 1794 was defeated and
followed by the partition of 1795. This marked the disappearance of Poland from the map of
Europe (Grolier).
Poland reemerged when Napoleon I

Types Of Business Entity For A Business
Of all the choices you make when starting a business, one of the most important is the type of
business entity you select for your company. Not only will this decision have an impact on how
much you pay in taxes, it will affect the amount of paperwork your business is required to do,
the personal liability you face and your ability to raise money. It s not a decision to be entered
into lightly, either, or one that should be made without sound counsel from business experts.
Kalish says it s important for business owners to seek expert advice from business professionals
when considering the pros and cons of various business entities . The business entity I have
chosen for my business is sole proprietorship. I don t want to be responsible if someone else
makes a bad chose for the company. I want to run my business my way. If anything goes wrong it
is completely my fault not anyone else s. Types of Business Entities The type of business entity
you choose will depend on three primary factors: liability, taxation and record keeping. Here s a
quick look at the differences between the most common forms of business entities: A sole
proprietorship is the most common form of business organization. It s easy to form and offers
complete managerial control to the owner. However, the owner is also personally liable for all
financial obligations of the business. A partnership involves two or more people who agree to

  • 7. Mahatma Gandhi and The Salt March Essays In an effort to help free India from the British rule, Mahatma Gandhi once again contributed to a protest against salt taxes, known as the Salt March. This protest advocated Gandhi s theory of satyagraha or nonviolent disobedience as the nation came together on March 12, 1930 to walk the 241 miles long journey to the shores of Dandi to attain salt. Although some Indians criticized Gandhi for not achieving direct independence from the Raj or British rule, Gandhi s execution of the Salt March helped to create a stronger nation for the Indians to live in. Gandhi motivated the Indians to act robustly against the injustices of the salt taxes through nonviolent means. This caused Gandhi to create a temporary compromising pact between Gandhi and... Unfortunately, after the trip to Dandi, Gandhi was arrested as a consequence for the execution of Salt March along with the other protesters who were involved in buying, selling, or making salt (Gold 86). However, while being held captive, a poet and a close associate of Gandhi, Mrs. Sarojini Naidu, took an advantage of the new attention that the Satyagrahis and Gandhi had aroused by leading another protest on the Dharsana Salt Works, which caused intense physical harm to the protestors. Anne Todd asserts that as a leader of this particular protest, Naidu inspired and reminded the Satyagrahis that even though Gandhi s body is in jail...his soul is with you. India s prestige is in your hands. You must not use any violence under any circumstances. You will be beaten but you must not resist; you must not even raise a hand to ward off blows (66). As the demonstrators approached the site, they encountered the British police officers who were trying to block them and were brutally bashing these Indians with five foot long steel tipped clubs (Todd 66). Despite the British effort, these satyagrahis relentlessly marched forward. REASON Laurel Creek first argues that this is a case of actual agency and that Anna Bishop has actual authority as Gilbert s agent to sign the admissions paperwork as is therefore bound by the arbitration agreement therein. We agree with Laurel Creek that Gilbert created an actual agency relationship between him and his wife. According to his sister, Rachel, Gilbert specifically asked that his wife be brought to the nursing home so that she could sign the admissions documents for him, and Anna acted upon that delegation of authority and signed the admissions papers. This is consistent with the creation of actual authority as described in the Restatement (Third) of Agency В§ 2.01, comment c (2006). The Restatement explains the rationale for the creation of actual agency in three steps. First, the principal manifests assent to be affected by the agent s action. In the instant case, Gilbert asked that Anna come to the hospital to sign the papers for him. Second, the agent s actions establish the agent s consent to act on the principal s behalf. Here, Anna signed all the admissions papers per her husband s request and therefore consented to act on Gilbert s behalf. Third, by acting within such authority, the agent affects the principal s legal relations with third parties. Clearly here, Anna s actions affected Gilbert s relations with Laurel Creek, a third party. The trial court acknowledged that Gilbert had the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Maggie a Girl of the Streets Maggie: A Girl of the Streets, a novella written in 1893 by Stephen Crane, focuses on a poverty stricken family living in the Bowery district of New York City. This novella is regarded as one of the first works of naturalism in American literature and it helped shape the naturalistic principle that a character is set into a world where there is no escape from one s biological heredity and the circumstances that the characters find themselves in will dominate their behavior and deprive them of individual responsibility. Throughout the story, the primary goal of the main characters is to escape the lives they lead and to find more comfortable lives away from their current problems, which differs from the romantic ideal that the main characters usually turn inwards to solve their problems. In the opening stages of the novella, Maggie tries to escape her troubling life through her relationship with Pete. As Maggie grows up, she becomes a beautiful girl who hates her life in Rum Alley. She sees Pete as a savior who could lead her away from her poverty stricken life and bring her into the world of leisure because he introduces her to popular music, dances, and dramas, all of which seem extravagant to her. Maggie begins to note the well dressed women she meets. She [envies the women s] elegance (11). • 16. The Four Key Differences Between Project-Based... BAM 514 International Business Management Unit # 3 Question #1. Discuss the four key differences between project based collaborations and equity joint ventures. As focal firms internationalize they often run into risks that are beyond their capabilities to overcome by themselves. Consequently, many firms often conclude it makes sense to work with a strategic partner with capabilities complimentary to their own to achieve certain projects. When two or more firms come together to manage risks associated with internationalization, they form international partnerships, or international strategic alliances. By working together, focal firms use the capabilities, resources or other strengths of their partners to achieve projects they would otherwise be unable to do alone. There are two basic forms of partnerships, Equity joint ventures and Project based collaborations. To understand the differences between these two basic types of partnerships it helps to understand how each is structured. (S. Tamer Cavusgil, Gary Knight, and John R. Riesenberger, 2012. International Business: The New Realities. Second edition, page 411). An Equity joint venture is a traditional partnership in which a new entity is created through the combination of assets by two or more parent companies. Together, the firms share joint ownership of the new legal entity. Typically, this may be a result of one firm not having all the resources or assets necessary to exploit an opportunity, or it may be the only ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Iq Tests And Cultural Bias Essay #3: IQ Tests and Cultural Bias There was a cartoon showing different animals, including an elephant, fish, seal, and monkey, lined up by a tree in front of a man behind a desk. The man said he was going to make a fair selection by giving them all the same test. The test was that they all had to climb the tree. In this case, the monkey probably was the only one that thought the test was fair. Welcome to the controversy over IQ (Intelligent Quotient) tests and cultural diversity. In 1904, a French psychologist (Alfred Binet) created the first intelligencetest in order to help the French Ministry of Education segregate children that may have difficulty learning in a regular classroom. At that time, he did not know that his test would be the basis for IQ tests administered over 100 years later. He has a Stanford University psychologist, Lewis Terman, to thank for expanding his work and creating the Stanford Binet intelligence test that took root in the United States in 1916 and is still popular today. However, along with its popularity came criticism. Critics see the current version of the Stanford Binet test and other intelligence tests, despite attempts to make them culturally fair, as limiting to individuals who are not from the major social norm. They claim that cultural bias in test questions is why certain races do not perform as well as others on the test. His writing encompasses a broad range of styles, from adult to children s, comical to unusual. One of his most common styles was that of fantasy: actions and events that cannot logically happen. This style was evident in his works, the Loser, ThumbFace, Warning, Squishy Touch, and Skin Stealer. Through the description of these absurd circumstances, Silverstein was able to entertain readers of all ages. amp;#9;In Sely Friday s reference to a biography, Shel Silverstein was quoted as saying, amp;quot; . . . This story is obviously impossible considering the biological fact that when a person is decapitated, his/her life ceases. However, with the use of simple end rhyme and an amusing story, Silverstein is able to present a light hearted view of what could have been a tragedy. amp;#9;Thumb Face, included in A Light in the Attic, is another example of Silverstein s use of fantasy. The first line of the poem basically says it all: amp;quot; There is a face upon my thumb . . .. amp;quot; (p. 55). For all practical purposes, this is an absurd situation. The speaker goes on to describe the features of the small face on his/her thumb. Certain descriptions of the face imply a sense of minuteness and leave the reader feeling compassionate for it because of its size. For example, Silverstein wrote, amp;quot; It has a little twisty mouth, / And yellow teethies, too. amp;quot; Again, Silverstein uses end rhyme in the pattern of amp;quot;a b c b, amp;quot; which helps move the story along in a definite rhythm. Even those unfamiliar with the works of the author that uttered this will have some faint inkling of recognition when met with this line. However, those who examine and take the time to analyze the stylistic elements of poetryrecognize that techniques like symbolism, figurative language, and repetition, such as the repetition of the phrase nevermore, are designed to impact the reader and are utilized by the author to create a desired effect. Edgar Allan Poe, the poet responsible for many works of literature such as The Raven, Annabel Lee, The Haunted Palace uses symbolism, extended metaphor, and repetition to make the mood of his poems... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A prominent example of extended metaphor is when Edgar Allan Poe utilizes the symbol of a palace/castle in The Haunted Palace to represent someone s mind. At the beginning, Poe writes, Once a fair and stately palace Radiant palace reared its head / In the monarch Thought s dominion, It stood there! At this point in the poem, the palace, or mind, is fair and working well. Later, however, Poe begins to describe how ...evil things, in robes of sorrow/ Assailed the monarch s high estate introducing a shift from the previously happy image of a calm, beautiful palace, now somber and ghastly. The tone of the poem, through introducing this extended metaphor, thus shifted to become sorrowful and regretful. Another popular example of repetition from Poe s work is the repetition of the phrase, Nevermore, throughout The Raven. At the beginning, when the bird just arrived, nevermore represented hope, such as when Poe writes, Till I scarcely more than muttered Other friends have flown before /On the morrow he will leave me, as my Hopes have flown before. / Then the bird said Nevermore. Once the Judge rescues James from drowning and after a sort of mock baptism, the once wild man becomes docile and shadows the Judge s every movement. Judge Holden leading the imbecile around on a leash is similar to a king being followed by his fool. The imbecile is another creature the Judge controls by allowing to exist. Both novels, The Hunger Games and Alice s Adventures in Wonderland, therefore succeed in depicting arbitrary measures and brutality as a way to portray government oppression, personified by the Gamemakers and the Queen of Hearts. Being confronted with this oppression, both girls think about which place they take and self reflect their identities. Simplification comes at a cost, which is the risk that only a partial and biased picture of reality is created. Variable measurement and sample selection Before the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) reformed the executive compensation disclosure requirements regarding inside debt in 2006, it is very difficult to find out information related to the deferred compensation. Therefore, following Sundaram and Yermack (2007), the data set used in this paper for the period before 2006 consists of the pension data only, and ignores the minority of the cases for which deferred compensation data are available. Sundaram and Yermack (2007) calculate the actuarial present values of each CEO s pension at the end of each fiscal year. They calculated the actuarial present value of a CEO s pension by using the following formula ∑_(n=maxв ЃЎ(0,R A))^(K A)в–’p(n)X/гЂ–(1+d)гЂ—^n Where X is the annual pension amount, R is the minimum retirement age, A is the CEO s current age, p(n) is the probability that the CEO is alive n years in the future, collected separately for male and female CEOs from the actuarial tables published by the U.S Social Security Administration, d is the cost of long term debt, and K is the terminal year of the pension (maximum is set 120). Collecting pension data following the above procedure is time consuming. It involves checking each company s proxy statement, and identifying the disclosed annual pension payments in matrix form, as required by the SEC. • 42. Similarities Between Letters To Alice And Fay Weldon Education has been a complex concept and remains a relevant notion in texts across time. Women were encouraged to pursue an education in both the regency period and the 20th century. But the type of education encouraged for women in the regency period differs substantially from the kind offered in the 20th century as they were shaped through the respective contexts of their surroundings. This is evident when comparing Jane Austen s 1813 Regency social satire Pride and Prejudice, and Fay Weldon s 1984 postmodern epistolary work, Letters to Alice, as both texts manifest how changes in their social context have resulted in the altered position of the type of education encouraged for women, through the inclusion of different language features, ... On the left page, from the sky, symbols of music, art, statues of dancers and the modern languages are pouring down to nourish these trees, highlighting the type of education that was encouraged for women in the regency period. Under these trees there are symbols of music, art, dance and modern languages hanging off their branches to symbolise the acquired education that regency females received from their nourishment. The page on the right hand side highlights trees and fertile seeds growing with an invisible force from the sky to indicate that the spectrum for education towards women is not constricted. This indicates that females were encouraged to participate in all the various types of education. Subsequently, the trees produce different symbols of education, such as books, universities and career pathways. In between these two types of trees there is a line which separates these two to represent that although females from both periods were encouraged towards education, both differ in the type of education they were encouraged as a result of their context. Thus, as a result of their context the items in which these trees grow are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Eugene Peterson, an American born clergyman, scholar, professor author, and poet is known for creating The Message: The Bible in Contemporary Language translation. On the other hand, 30 years his junior, Irish born and raised, Bono, is best known as the lead vocalist for the rock band, U2. However, these unlikely friends do have one thing in common, their Christian faith. It was actually through Peterson s, The Message, that the two met and became friends. Because of their Christian beliefs, they have used their calling, vocation, art and media to impact culture for the sake of the Gospel. Both men have received the... It was very clear in the video that Peterson is a professing Christian; even a person who is not aware of all of his Christian books and teachings that he has produced would come away agreeing that he is a Christian. In the video, Peterson references Christ when he says, The world is violent and is the answer to that more violence or less? The answer is the cross. Peterson is most well known for his Bible translation, The Message, which presents scripture in modern day language. However, this version is quite controversial in Christian circles because some feel that it water downs God word while others validate the translation. Early on in the documentary, Peterson calls Bono a companion in the faith, however, Bono made no comment about Christ even when Peterson brought up Jesus and in fact, he even said that he is skeptical of Christians because he feels that they lack realism. He made it obvious that he was not including himself as Christian when he said that. Based on the film, I am hesitant to label him as a follower of Christ because of a lack of evidence that points to him being a Christian. According to 1 John 4, we recognize the Spirit of God in someone when they acknowledge that Jesus Christ has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Christopher Fry s article, which appeared in Vogue magazine, reflects on the nature of comedy and laughter and their relation to the big picture of life. Responding to the Reading 1. What do you suppose Fry means when he says that Comedy is an escape, not from truth but from despair ? I think what Fry means by his quote is that comedy can be used as a coping mechanism. It is like an escape because it takes your mind off of stressful things that are bothering or in his words the despair. However, Fry says that comedy doesn t let you escape the truth which to me means it distracts you just enough so that you are still aware of your issues but are still able to take your mind off of what s bothering you. 2. She describes how terrible she feels because of her situation but as the play goes on it s becomes comical considering how fast her situation is changed. The Athenian lovers all leave the woods and get married which means there is someone who is heartbroken and this can be viewed as a tragedy. So that being said, without the tragedy of heartbreak in the play then it is hard for there to be comedy.
