Theme Of Guilt In Atonement
Both writers of the books Atonement and The Remains of The Day investigate the manners by which
the characters are responsible for enabling their imagination to dominate their perception of reality.
This then brings severe consequences that shape the rest of their stories throughout the novels. Regret
and guilt are depicted throughout both novels by the successful utilization of dialect that is used in the
books in the portrayal of emotions, or lack of, which also showed the tension between the characters.
With close analysis of the characters in the novel, it is questionable regardless of whether the
characters feel regretful or guilty for any of their actions throughout the novel. Nearing the climax of
the novels; Briony and Stevens set goals ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Atonement, Briony is the guiltiest because of her abuse of her imagination and therefore becomes a
victim to the controlling demon the invades her mind. However, her guilt is not made excessively
obvious up until the end section of the novel where it is uncovered that she becomes a nurse. Briony s
guilt is shown through the way that she endeavours to keep on working for her fallen sister as opposed
to following her own desires. The fountain scene is an excellent example of how Briony s desire for a
much more romanticised world would affect her to think irrationally, while watching the interactions
amongst Cecilia and Robbie, Briony s train of thought switches rapidly between a proposal of
marriage to Robbie being in control of Cecilia and issuing a command which Cecilia dared not to obey
. The verb command would have stunned Briony to a high degree as Cecilia was of a higher class than
Robbie which was very

Misconceptions In The Film Fursona
Dominic Rodriguez s Fursona , a 2016 film, documents the misconceptions faced by Americans who
believe in the furry lifestyle. A group of people who dress in elaborate animal costumes as a means of
typically light hearted leisure would mostly consider themselves to be furries. Each furry develops a
fursona , a play on persona and the documentray s namesake, and the members have coolectively
named their following The Fandom . However, these people have faced aversion by the public based
on the media. This negative appearance has forced the community of furries to rally behind Uncle
Kage , who may have negative intentions as well. The media that Uncle Kage releases to depict these
people is being controlled by him alone, with intent to keep an upstanding reputation. However, this
may have backfired and the group s extremists may have created a dichotomy between the average
and the over the top. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although occasionally wearing $7000 anthropomorphic animal costumes, they can appear as average
citizens. Scenes from AnthroCon, a furry convention in Pittsburgh, are frequently shown. The way that
these people are rallying together to celebrate individuality and acceptance displays the major themes
of the group. However, these themes have been soiled by the media and views of the few. For
example, a specific member of the society, Boomer the Dog, has embarrassed the fandom more than
once. His legal attempt to officially change his name to Boomer the Dog and his appearances on Dr.
Phil are infamous for portraying furries as delusional and unacceptable. The way that Rodriguez uses
the interivews of these individuals is both interesting in a way that catches the attention of the
argument, as well as not being disrespectful and insensitive to the furry fandom. This techinique

Reasons For Buying Luxury Goods
Their average monthly consumption times are more than twice, and the consumption cost is also the
highest in all age groups. The China Daily newspaper has reported that, younger Chinese luxury goods
consumption has become a trend. In their survey of Chinese youth luxury goods consumption, more
than 60% of young consumers indicated that in order to pursuit fashion and taste, they are willing to
pay big bucks to buy luxury goods (Wu, 2014).

Advantages Of Production Planning And Scheduling
SCHEDULING AND PRODUCTION PLAN
To maximize productivity, every company needs a sound production plan. However, effective
planning is a complex process that covers a wide variety of activities to ensure that materials,
equipment and human resources are available when and where they are needed. Production planning is
like a roadmap: It helps you know where you are going and how long it will take you to get there.
Here are some advantages of an effective production plan and scheduling.
 Reduced labor costs by eliminating wasted time and improving process flow.
 Reduced inventory costs by decreasing the need for safety stocks and excessive work in process
inventories.
 Optimized equipment usage and increased capacity.
 Improved on time deliveries ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Communicate the plan
After you have determined that you have met the criteria to start production, you will need to
communicate the plan to the employees who will implement it. You can plan the production on
spreadsheets, databases or software, which usually speeds the process up. However, a visual
representation is preferred as a means to communicate operation schedules to floor employees. Some
businesses post work orders on boards or use computer monitors to display the floor schedule. The
schedule also needs to be available to employees ahead of time and kept up to date.
Consider change
One of the many challenges of production planning and scheduling is following up with changes to
orders. Changes happen every day. You will need to adjust your plan in line with these changes and
advise the plant. Dealing with change is not always easy and may take as much effort as creating the
original production plan. You will need to follow up with the various departments involved in order to
rectify any problems. As well, computer software can be helpful in tracking changes, inventory,
employees and

Human Activity Is Causing Global Warming Essay
Climate change poses a serious threat to Earth and its inhabitants. There is now substantial evidence
that human activity is causing global warming because of our large emissions of greenhouse gases.
For instance, atmospheric carbon dioxide currently measures at three hundred and ninety seven parts
per million, which is the highest it has been for at least the past one million years (National Research
Council of the National Academies). Also, scientific data shows that Earth s average surface
temperature has increased more than 1.7 Fahrenheit over the past one hundred years (National
Research Council of the National Academies). The evidence is unequivocal that our activities are the
main culprit to the disruption of the climate system. In 2013, the top four emitters of carbon dioxide
totaled to fifty eight percent of entire global emissions (Loiseau). Among these four, China is the
largest, accounting for twenty eight percent (Loiseau). The United States accounted for fourteen
percent; The EU accounted for ten percent; And India accounted for seven percent (Loiseau).
Specifically, China s total annual carbon dioxide emissions amounted to a massive 8.3 billion metric
tons while the United States emitted 5.4 billion metric tons annually (Loiseau). India followed China
and the United States with just over 2 billion metric tons emitted annually (Loiseau). This data could,
however, be somewhat misleading. For example, even though China does emit the most, it only emits

Health Information Technology Impact On The Quality Of...
Health Information Technology Impact on the Quality of Care The health care industry is driven
forward by the advancements in technology. Advancements in technology has improved the way
health care treatments are delivered to patients. Patient outcomes are affected in the way that the care
is being delivered. Technology has found ways to not only improve the way it is being delivered but
has also made it more efficient in how it is being done so. Therefore, healthcare quality has improved
with the advancements in technology. Health Information then and now Health information
technology has improved dramatically since early doctor visits conducted by Greek medical
practitioners. During that time frame there was no internet to rely on transfer of information, no
telephone lines to communicate with other health care personnel to bounce ideas off of and there was
no social media platforms, such as YouTube, in which medical information can be reviewed. The
ability to access information has dramatically changed from then to now. Back then, medical
professionals had to rely more on skills and use what they can to arrive to a positive outcome.
Information technology today has been able to make positive strides in the way paper based supports
have been slowly phasing out in favor of a computer based system. Computer based systems with
various amounts of patient information has led to an increase in efficiency while maintaining costs
low. Physicians now have the ability to reduce

Background of the Study
Personal hygiene has always been a part of a person s daily activities but what is really the depth of an
individual s understanding of why personal hygiene should be practiced every day? One s behavior
towards practicing personal hygiene greatly aids in the prevention of diseases; thus, an optimal
component to the well being of people. More studies have also depicted the health benefits of
improved hygiene (Fewtrell et al. 2005) Boot and Cairncross (1993) mentions hand washing and nail
cleaning; washing of the face; bathing; hygiene post defecation; and washing of towels, beddings,
clothes, etc. before use as part of personal hygiene. At an early age, children are educated about ...

I still remember my first dress design at the age of 5. It was made of lake blue cloth, some leftover

situation are different in America. I have seen students who would spend a whole day in art studios or
try their best to raise fund for spontaneous math seminar. I started to question myself: studying math
or economics could provides me various decent career possibilities, and my math grade is not bad, but
is math truly my loved Mr. Right?
I gradually realize that, compared with other math majors around me, I kind of lack the enthusiasm
that they have to detailedly seek deeper principles behind every conclusive formula. I constantly
regard math as a tool to educate me how to comprehend and think critically. Undoubtedly I enjoy
working on math, but if let numbers and computing dominate my future, will I be totally regretless or
incessantly imagine another life composed with art? I believe I should experience the second situation
because of my college experience so far.
At first, I chose Fordham because of its location. During my freshmen year, I found out its academic
difficulty is not challenging enough and decided to transfer. Universities like Vanderbilt became my
targets because of their well known academic reputation. The offer took me away from New York City
to Nashville, a city of music but not art. This city provides few high standard art museum or

The Individual in Judaism and Hinduism
Through the Bhagavad Gita and the Book of Job we see the similar ways that different religions affirm
that the individual can t have the same level of knowledge as the divine. We also, however, see that
while Hinduism offers an explanation for this knowledge disparity, and offers a path of empowerment
that allows the individual to strive for the knowledge level of the divine, Judaism simply deems that
we are insignificant beings when compared to God, and that we can t ever achieve nearly the same
amount of knowledge as God. The Book of Job tells those who consider the bible to be a holy text,
namely Jewish and Christian people, the story of Job. His story tells us that we, as individual human
beings, are lesser beings than God and can t know as much as God. At the end of the story, after
hearing God mention the greatness of his creations, Job finally breaks and admits that he was wrong to
question God, as Job, an individual human being, has a limited amount of knowledge compared to
God. While God is pleased with this response from the previously dubious Job, he is not happy with
Zophar, Eliphaz, and Bildad for claiming to know why God acted in the manner in which he did while
they were consoling Job. God relents however, and forgives them after Job prays for them. God is so
delighted with Job for withstanding all of the punishments Satan had put forth upon him that he
rewarded Job with two times more of everything he had lost, including his children. This ending to the

Flashing Lights, Hugs From Strangers, Pounding Of Tables,
Flashing lights, hugs from strangers, pounding of tables, and more await those coming into the Deaf
Cultural world. After all, how does one communicate with another who cannot hear? From the
perspective of one who grew up in the hearing world, these cultural norms were anything but normal;
yet they have become ingrained, almost second nature. Now these are my norms and are part of my
world. My journey into Deaf culture started in elementary school while riding the school bus. A friend
of mine named Francis allowed me into her world of American Sign Language by teaching me the
manual alphabet and some basic conversational sign language, such as roller skates and how are you?

Some options include: flashing the lights briefly, stomping on the floor, or simply walking across the
room to grab their attention. Another important cultural tidbit, eye contact is incredibly important. To
an outsider it can be a bit unnerving, it almost feels like they are staring you down; however, direct
eye contact is expected when someone is communicating with you, as this shows that you are fully
engaged in the conversation. Breaking eye contact while in a conversation is akin to interrupting and
stating that their conversation is not worth your time.
Living isolated by a majority of those who live around you, simply because of the mode of
communication, can be very difficult. A majority of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community in the
United States communicate with a three dimensional language known as American Sign Language, or
ASL. ASL is a unique language that differs greatly from English. Not only does ASL differ from
English linguistically, it also differs in modality. Instead of articulating phonemes with one s mouth,
teeth, tongue, and throat, one articulates ASL with one s hands, fingers, face, and surrounding space.
As such, an individual whose primary language is ASL may struggle reading and writing in English,
especially in complex situations such as a doctor s appointment. Also, the Deaf community shares a
unique lexicon used to identify various individuals with whom they come in contact.

School Uniform Controversy
There has always been a big controversy on whether schools should require students to wear uniforms
issued by the school. Some believe that students should have the freedom to wear whatever they
would like to express themselves. Others believe that students should wear uniforms to reduce
bullying and provide a look of success. Schools should be required to have students wear uniforms.
One reason that schools should require students to wear school uniforms is because it would make
schools safer. The schools superintendent, Paula E. Howard, said the district turned to uniforms in
response to an after school fight last year that involved weapons concealed in loose clothing (Article 2

Discuss the nature nurture debate in relation to individual development (M1)
Evaluate the nature nurture debate in relation to development of the individual (D1)
Over the course of the last century one of the greatest debates in psychology concerns, the basis of
behaviour, specifically whether behaviour is innate i.e. genetically controlled, or whether it is learnt
through the socio cultural environment. This is often referred to as the Nature vs. Nurture debate.
There are two main arguments on this issue. The Nativist claims that all behaviour is innate believing
that genes control the majority of animal behaviour. On the other hand, the empiricist position
suggests that all behaviour is learned through an individuals cultural ... Show more content on

It has been argued that the propensity towards intellectual plasticity is determined genetically, but that
the environment is what governs the moulding of that plasticity. As such, people who have a genetic
propensity to intelligence and a highly stimulating infancy will become most intelligent, while those
who have a lower genetic propensity to intelligence may still demonstrate high IQ through a highly
structured intervention program. This would explain both Ramey s study, as well as the Devlin
argument, and hence support the concept that there might be both a genetic and an environmental
influence on intelligence.
Naturally there are opposing views, from the Nativists that individual s genetics are determinant in
regards to behaviour, and that indeed certain behaviour and instincts are in fact largely under genetic
control. A prime example of this is the Chomsky s cognitive theory of language. Chomsky s approach
to the study of language emphasizes an innate set of linguistic principles shared by all humans known
as universal grammar. N.Chomsky was the first behaviourist to provide a functional, operant analysis
of language. He proposed that we are born with a brain mechanism he called the language acquisition
device (LAD). This

Heaton manor letter After reading the letter from Heaton manor I realised that this letter was written in
formal. This is because the way the writer has authored this it looks professional. The letter was
drafted to the students parents about a trip. They used the words Dear at the beginning and Yours
Faithfully at the end of the page, this is used if the name of the person isn t known. However, they
wrote the letter to the parents and carers because if they didn t do this, they would have found it
crucial and more complicated, because its harder to write the letter to each parent. Although, it would
have been exceeding if they wrote to each parent, because this would make the parents know that they
have taken their time to write to each parent so their child could go to the trip. Also, they have added
the date. This material is added to show when the letter was written. The address isn t added .

might not know the addresses of each student. Also, most of the logos are either combined at the top
or at the bottom of the page. This is used to show which company or school this is from. In this letter

Contributions Of Leonardo Da Vinci
Illegitimately born to a Middle Eastern peasant, Caterina, and a prominent notary of Florence, Messer
Piero Fruosino di Antonio da Vinci, was an aspiring painter, sculptor, architect and a scientist. This
Italian genius who went by the name Leonardo da Vinci, was born in the city of Florence on April 15,
1452. Da Vinci was said to have spent his early years in Archiano then his later years with his
extended family. Though Da Vinci s early life was not well known, it was learnt that at age fifteen
(15), his father apprenticed him to Andrea del Verrocchio. Verrocchio was the most prominent artist of
the Renaissance period and in the city of Florence at that time. Verrocchio s apprenticeship generated
opportunities for a multitalented self taught individual to create some of the most popular paintings
and writings of today ; this later led to Leonardo Da Vinci s significant contributions to the High
Renaissance period.
Approaching age 20, Leonardo Da Vinci s work began to become popular and many people were
interested to work alongside him. He however declined the offer and continued working with
Verrocchio. After becoming independent in 1472, he painted the Adoration of the Magi for San
Donato. This was his first commissioned piece; however, due to his relocation to join the Sforza clan
in Milan he was unable to complete the painting. Leonardo relocated in 1481 to work for the Duke.

Leadership Style And Personal Strengths Essay
Using Leadership Style and Personal Strengths to Succeed in a Doctoral Program Leadership is an
important outcome of the doctor of nursing practice (DNP) program (Zaccagnini White, 2014).
Measurement tools are available that identify leadership style (Clark, 2010) and personal talents,
called Signature Themes (Gallup, Inc., 2010). When leadership style and personal strengths are
identified, they can be maximized to achieve success (Clark, 2010; Gallup, Inc., 2010). This paper
provides both a framework about the importance of leadership in the DNP curriculum and several
examples of how I will use my leadership style and Signature Themes to succeed in the DNP program.
Leadership in DNP Program Curricula Prior to the development of the DNP degree, several practice
focused doctoral programs existed in the United States; however, they did not have uniform curricular
standards (American Association of Colleges of Nursing [AACN], 2004). An AACN task force (2004)
studied the programs and recommended they be consolidated into one practice doctorate, called the
DNP. The AACN task force found that leadership preparation was a common curricular thread in each
practice doctoral program (AACN, 2004). In 2006, the AACN published The Essentials of Doctoral
Education for Advanced Nursing Practice to establish guidelines for DNP curriculum development.

Questions On Moore s Belief Of External World Essay
Philosophy 111A, Introduction to Philosophy: Knowledge and Reality Professor: Nicholas Ray TA: J.

1, 2,3,4, Essay question on Moore s belief of external world PART A: 1 Why do Parmenides and Zeno
think that change/flux/motion are impossible? : Parmenides argues that 1. It is and is not possible for
something not to exist, 2. Something that is there in thought and through senses must exist. He
believes that there are two paths one can follow. The path of error, trusting ones sensory inputs, and
the path of truth, conclusion through reasoning and logical thought. His idea of change is for
something that exists to not exist anymore, something that wasn t is now. To conceptualize this picture
a block of stone, a sculptor chisels it into a beautiful piece of art, the statue is still the same piece of
rock, only in a different shape. Parmenides thinks that those who follow the path of error would argue
that the stone did change, however he believes that their senses are deceiving them. The rock instead
ceased to exist, and the beautiful sculpture came into existence. As a result of this belief, change is
impossible due to the fact that something that has changed does not exist anymore, instead a new body
is created with different properties. Zeno s most famous example on why flux/flow are impossible his
race paradox. Zeno lets a tortoise have a 5 minute head start on him and then tries

International Trade Is An Effective Stimulation Of...
Engaging in international trade is an effective stimulation of economic growth. David Ricardo s
principle of comparative advantage argues while nations involved in international trade, a country will
become specialised in producing a product that has the lowest relative costs. (Economist, 2015) By
focusing on the production onto a limited scope of product or industries, firms or the nation will
experience rise in productivity due to higher efficiency in allocation and utilisation of resources. As
the process of specialisation will cause reallocation of other less efficient resources, nations, as a
result, will import products that are less efficiently produced from other countries. While different
nations specialising in different goods and services, a greater variety and cheaper products will
become available for consumption, improving the quality and quantity of consumption by all nations.
To determine whether developing nations are experiencing disadvantage in the international trade, it
requires a careful examination with Porter s Diamond factor endowments. It analysis a nation s
competitiveness under four categories: factor endowments, demand condition, related and supporting
industries and firm strategy, structure and rivalry.
Factor endowments meaning the availability of resources and skills, which can further categorise into
basic and advanced factor. To fully utilise the potentials within a nation (Basic factor), it requires

Essay on Sir John Reith
Sir John Reith Sir John Reith was the first Director General of the BBC, and he had particularly strong
views on broadcasting as having a cultural and moral responsibility as a means of educating and
informing the masses. He once famously stated
It is occasionally indicated to us that we are apparently setting out to give the public what we think
they need and not what they want but few know what they want and very few what they need. In any
case it is better to overestimate the mentality of the public than to underestimate it. He who prides

The idea of the BBC as a public service meant that the provision should be public goods rather than a
private commodity (Curran, 2000). The funding of the service was based upon the license fee and their
agreement with parliament, and this was decided when it was felt that advertising could limit the
number of programmes they would be able to broadcast. They maintained the view that our
responsibility is to carry into the greatest possible number of homes, everything that is best in every
department of human knowledge, endeavour, or achievement (cited in Smith, 1998).
That the BBC kept a firm degree of independence from the government was always at the forefront of
Reith s aims, and the fact that it also gained a reputation for its impartiality meant that it came to be,

A Brief Note On Cross Cultural Communication Within The...
Problems or difficulties of cross cultural communication within the company
Language problem and other difficulties. English is the communication language within the company
but it s not native for the Russian managers. Therefore, they admit some difficulties related to this,
such as sometimes it s necessary to ask for the details from their American colleagues to understand
their requests better. American managers admit the language difficulties as well but they understand
that it s not easy to express oneself in a foreign language. There are also differences in the approach to
the business correspondence, e. g. the American managers use many introductory and conclusive
phrases, while Russian managers go straight to the business and often ... Show more content on

Moreover, Russian colleagues are perceived as a bit negative and American ones as too optimistic
regarding new ideas:
Russian colleagues can be, I don t want to say negative , but there is always an element of an argument
to what they do. When you bring up an idea instead of always looking at anything optimistic they say
yes, but... . It s always something a kind of negative and there is no optimistic look. I don t know if it s
cultural, I m not sure. Sometimes it is said that people in the USA are too optimistic, but it s one of the
biggest things that I can see (Participant 5).
This observation is in compliance with Thomalin and Nicks (2007) and Bergelson (2003) who
describe Russians as more fatalistic and Americans as having a can do attitude. Also American
colleagues avoid the word problem and start to discuss business issues from the positive things. While
Russian managers concentrate on the negative things first.
Stress during cross cultural communication. Four out of six managers have some stress during cross
cultural communication with their Russian or American colleagues. According to the opinion of one
American manager, around 80% of the American employees agree that it would be less stressful if
there could be less communication with their Russian colleagues. Russian managers have

Descriptive Essay Volcano
Allie Koza
Professor Baer
English
17 October 2017 Descriptive Essay The word volcano comes from the little island of vulcano in the
Mediterranean Sea, these fire fountains can reach hundreds of feet into the sky (Lindop). Early
Romans believed this mountain belonged to vulcan, the blacksmith of the gods. Within the last twenty
years, a volcanologists have been working hard to learn how to predict eruptions and keep people safe.
Ash plumes and steam rose into the bright blue sky as the underground earthquake shook the land and
rattled windows all across the eighteen mile town. As the jet circled the island, in view of lovely
beaches and emerald water, looming over this lush paradise was the screaming volcano. Volcanos
erupt when the pressure inside of them becomes so great that the magma surges up and forces its way
out. An exploding volcano can rip apart a mountain in just seconds, when the eruption is over, a
landscape is changed forever. The united states is home to more volcanos than any other country
except Indonesia, and Japan. The majority of these volcanoes are in Alaska. Until recently, there was
no way to predict when a volcano would blow, although volcanoes give off many warning signs
before they erupt. Including smaller earthquakes beneath the volcano, slight inflation, or swelling. The
rising magma eventually causes the solid rock to break, sending earthquake signals. Most volcanoes
give warning signs beginning weeks or months before they blow (Lindop). Lumps of Lava cool into
solid rocks as they fly through the sky, forming rounded chunks that can be also known as bombs,
while pieces with corners and sharp edges are named blocks. Both bombs and blocks can cause a great
deal of damage. As the volcano begins to burst, the sky fills with choking, smoky powder, while it
starts raining lava, and rock. The air warmed quicker than when you pour kerosene on a fire, with a
sound so loud it circled the earth four times, red hot lava flows down the side of the volcano and
magma spews out the top. The only taste in my mouth is the smoke coming from the lava, as the gas
in the air turned all my silver jewelry black. I feel very frightened knowing this is such a normal thing
to happen in different

`` A Cyborg Manifesto `` By Donna Haraway
We invented machines to fulfill our necessities. As machines get smarter in the 21th century, we give
machines more permissions and freedom to do more things for us. However, the new generations that
are born with all the advanced technologies they needed don t quite understanding the use of machines
as we are more relying on them. The machines are quickly expanding and replacing our brains and
bodies even it is a simple task to do. But if we step back a little and think that we are the inventors of
these modern machines. Are we scare of machines taking over our societies or is it just our fear and
curiosity that tricked us? Well, we now cannot live without machines. Human and machine are bonded
together tightly that we can t identify who we really are. We become cyborg which is a more accurate
term to describe who we are now.
The reading A Cyborg Manifesto by Donna Haraway points out that we are cyborgs. There is no
difference between human and machine and this boundary has been breached. Cyborgs are a hybrid of
machine and organism. They often appear in the science fiction. Haraway describes that machines are
now doing most of our works while we just sit back and watch them doing what they suppose to do. It
feels like the machines are becoming alive and we are the one that rarely doing anything. However,
we are still on the top of the hierarchy no matter how machines will change our lives, we are still on
the top of the food chain. But even so, we can t ignore that

experiences of a Panjabi girl from India. The life of Jyoti is told from her point of view when she is
twenty four years old, and pregnant with the baby of Bud Ripplemeyer, a crippled banker who is more
than twice Jyoti s age. During the span of two months in Iowa, Jyoti narrates her biographical
experiences in Punjab and in America as she strives to become independent. Jasmine illustrates that

wanted her to call him by his first name, Jyoti said, In Hasnapur wives used only pronouns to address

Prakash (77). The conflict she has trying to call him by his name shows the difference between how
she lived in Hasnapur before Prakash and how she is after she marrieshim. Prakash also insists on
calling Jyoti, Jasmine. Prakash plays an important role in Jasmine s life because he is the first person
who helped Jasmine become more conscious of the modern world and the opportunities it holds.
Prakash is a modern man as it is revealed, My husband, Prakash Vijh, was a modern man, a city man

Postpartum Depression During The Postpartum Period
The postpartum period is about going through change and transition from a woman to a new mother.
This is a time where mothers restore muscle tone and connective tissue in the body after the birth of
the baby. Although there is a dramatic change during the postpartum period, women s body is
nonetheless not fully stored to pre pregnant physiology until about 6 months post delivery (Osailan,
6). At this time, women need to receive special health and social support to prevent problems such as
postpartum depression. During this period, culture plays a major role in the way a woman perceives
and prepares for her birthing experience. In fact, the notions of birth and postnatal care vary
considerably with cultural beliefs and traditional practices. Each culture has its own values, beliefs
and practices related to pregnancy and birth (Osailan,1). In the United States, after a short hospital
stay, moms and babies are sent home because it is expected for mothers to heal within 42 days after
giving birth. Whereas in other societies like Mexico, the postpartum recovery is active long enough
until the new mother is fully healed (Brenhouse). In the article, Why Are America s Postpartum
Practices So Rough on New Mothers? by Hilary Brenhouse, the author states, With these rituals comes
an acknowledgment, familial and federal, that the woman needs relief more at this time than at any
other especially if she has a career to return to and that it takes weeks, sometimes months, to properly

Comparing The White Man s Burden And The Poisonwood Bible
Weighed down, overwhelmed, accountability, and responsibility. These are all aspects of having a
burden, but what exactly is the burden of a white man? Labor? Money? Extreme temperatures? No,
far from it actually. In the poem the White Man s Burden, Kipling portrays the Burden as having to
civilize the uncultured heathens of Africa. The family in The Poisonwood Bible have this particular
burden. However, the family is divided on how they think about this so called burden . These two
works of literature go together like peanut butter and jelly. They walk hand in hand to expose the
downfalls of colonialism and superiority. The Poisonwood Bible has a family that is sent to the Congo
to help the Congolese people by introducing them to the Christian faith. In The White Man s Burden,
it talks of civilizing the uncivilized or changing them. Just as the Price family is doing to the
Congolese people. However the question remains. Is it the family s job to civilize these people? Well,
many believe not. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

is a sense of mock in the wording of it. Both of these works of literature express the downside of this.

angry with Anatole or when the Congolese finally stand up to Nathan. The reader gets the feeling that
Nathan should back off. Even the family of Nathan feels odd in the moment while Nathan himself is
like a cobra ready to strike. This is a perfect example of how the family is split over how they should

raised him Methodist, and his sister did his schooling in a one room schoolhouse. At the age of 10, his
father died and his mother left the farm to move to Louisville, Kentucky. They struggled with poverty
after that, and he eventually got into acting and filmmaking. He started off as an actor when his first
screenplay was rejected. However, he started working with a production company called Biograph,

When he tries to express his sexuality towards her, she brushes him off, which further enforces the
idea that the free blacks are over sexualized. The biggest sense of loyalty from Mammy we see is
when she tries to protect her master from union soldiers arresting him for being in the Ku Klux Klan.
Gus, the Union Solider, seems to be best associated with brute and coon tendencies, which is
characterized by his sexuality towards Flora. The union soldiers in general represent the brutal buck
character type because they are seen as violent, uncontrollable and sexualized in the film. Gus, also
has coon tendencies, however, in the way his character expresses himself. His eyes are very big and
full of expression, and seem to be laughed at a lot. He is used as comic relief in addition to his role as
an instigator to the Ku Klux Klan. When he comes onto Flora, he is overly sexual and aggressive
towards her. He seems to be out of control as soon as the interaction starts, and ends with a chasing
scene through the forest. This goes along with the Moonlight and Magnolia theme that white women
are the epitome of beauty, and how frail and delicate they seem. Silas Lynch is also depicted as overly
aggressive in his pursuit and proposal to Elsie Stoneman. This represents the fear of miscegenation, as
well as rape. The skewed view promotes the domination of women through portrayals of white
women and black soldiers. The Stoneman housekeeper, Lydia, is portrayed as a

A critical incident is an event that is usually remembered by the participant as important or used as a

In the theater Blood Wedding , there were some scenes mixed with Flamenco dance, which is very
popular in the Spanish literature. The beginning is a Spanish language plot with English introduction.
The dancing with the dancers at the beginning of the dance is a shadow, casting on the screen behind
the dancers. The shadow looks like the dancer but also not without doubt, which undoubtedly
indicates some things, heralding love behind the other protagonist it? Or the same fate of both of the
two main male characters? This was a tragedy, which happened between two families, among a
couple, and more, between the two men, whose fate may would be shadowed or indicated in the
Flamenco dance. The play was showed in a black box theatre, where the spaces are easily built and
maintained, and are usually home to plays or other performances with very basic technical
arrangements, such as limited set construction. For the play Blood Wedding , the black box gave it
sufficient space and room to make itself best, because the space of the stage is versatile and easy to
change. And there were some design challenges in the play. In costumes, the play arranged no masks
for the main characters, through which the play emphasized the characters so that the audience can
follow the emotion of the characters very well, and can understand the the story theme better. When
the climax of the plot came, the light of the stage became red, the color of

Feed By M. T. Anderson Analysis
Today s society is fueled by marketing and consumerism, which is detrimental to our environment.
Throughout the novel Feed, M.T Anderson uses a futuristic society as an scathing indictment of our
current consumer habits. This is best demonstrated by the use of multiple related themes. Many
abrasive marketing techniques used by multinational conglomerates are designed to prey on middle
and working class consumers. Thus creating a higher demand for product manufacturing. This higher
demand in return increases environmental pressures, due to an unregulated private manufacturing
sector.
Two relevant themes that relate to each other are Because it is built into things we use every day,
marketing is inescapable¨ and Negligent consumerism is destructive to the environment¨. These two
themes relate to each throughout novel. With that being said, marketing is widely demonstrated all
through our daily lives because of the modern societal use of products that are brought to our attention
day in and day out. Whereas abrasive marketing tactics become more prevalent in the average
consumer s daily habits. The draconian nature behind marketing is easily forgotten. With marketing
comes consumption, with mass marketing comes negligent consumption, with negligent consumptions

Lack of Regulation in Banking Industry
What case can be made that it was the lack of regulation of the banking sector that led to the financial
crisis of 2008 9? What are the new regulatory structures that are being proposed in the US and UK?
The preconditions of the 2008 9 crisis were high unemployment, high growth which was stimulated
partially by foreign investment caused by imbalance of current accounts on the international arena (ie.
Huge debt of US and the UK and surplus of China, Korea, Japan). Large part of the problem was
caused by low inflation in healthy economy house prices oscilate around the inflation rate. In this

The level of defauls in the sub prime market was over 10% whilst the prime market was around 2%.
The price decrease in real estate lead to banks not being able even to recover the amount they
invested. When the speculative subprime market went into crisis it only began much bigger recession.
Behind the sub prime there was another crisis the financial innovation products: CDO s, CDS s,
derivatives, futures market, which were directly interlocked with sub prime loans. Creation of a
secondary «shadow market» with no transparency and lack of government regulation. Banks were
continuiously and artificially creating enormous amount of money. Derivatives which are essentially
just bets (on virtually anything: price of commodity, exchange rate, inflation, currency exchange, etc.)
have become a huge market worth over $700 trillion. The problem with them is that there is no
physical value behind them and if things go wrong one have to face loss of all the money that have
been invested. Shadow banking system has developed further based on the innovation and creation of
new over the counter financial solutions. The illegal practices were allowed to flourish. It is known
now for example that Credit Default Swaps even though they are a type of insurance, were sold as
derivatives. Credit Default Swap is the financial solution of sprading the risk of defaulting on
repayment of the loan. It is an agreement than one side gets paid for

Forrest has a totally different outlook he sees school as a playground for bullies even though he

With much respect, our freedom is earned by the bravery of many men and woman. The effects of the
Vietnam War can be considered a theme in the movie, Forrest Gump. This film portrays the Vietnam
War with a child like, simplicity outlook but contains much deeper meaning like thinking about life,
death, and destiny. While at war, Forrest saved Lieutenant Dan Taylor s life, yet Lieutenant was not
satisfied. He believed it was his destiny to die which put many things into perspective for Forrest such
as life and death, especially after Forrest saw his best friend, Bubba, die at war. Forrest Gump stated in

High Fat and Butter Cake Recipes
High Fat or Butter Cakes
High fat cakes are made by using creaming method. Solid fat, usually butter, is creamed with sugar
until it becomes light, pale and expands in volume. This procedure incorporates air into the mixture,
and during baking air cells spread and leaven the cake. After creaming fat, eggs are mixed into the fat
which emulsifies the mixture. It is possible to add whole eggs or just egg yolks, and in that case,
remaining egg whites are mixed separately into meringue and folded into the mixture at the end. At
the end flour and other ingredients are added.

  • 2. Theme Of Guilt In Atonement Both writers of the books Atonement and The Remains of The Day investigate the manners by which the characters are responsible for enabling their imagination to dominate their perception of reality. This then brings severe consequences that shape the rest of their stories throughout the novels. Regret and guilt are depicted throughout both novels by the successful utilization of dialect that is used in the books in the portrayal of emotions, or lack of, which also showed the tension between the characters. With close analysis of the characters in the novel, it is questionable regardless of whether the characters feel regretful or guilty for any of their actions throughout the novel. In Atonement, Briony is the guiltiest because of her abuse of her imagination and therefore becomes a victim to the controlling demon the invades her mind. However, her guilt is not made excessively obvious up until the end section of the novel where it is uncovered that she becomes a nurse. Briony s guilt is shown through the way that she endeavours to keep on working for her fallen sister as opposed to following her own desires. The fountain scene is an excellent example of how Briony s desire for a much more romanticised world would affect her to think irrationally, while watching the interactions amongst Cecilia and Robbie, Briony s train of thought switches rapidly between a proposal of marriage to Robbie being in control of Cecilia and issuing a command which Cecilia dared not to obey . • 3. Misconceptions In The Film Fursona Dominic Rodriguez s Fursona , a 2016 film, documents the misconceptions faced by Americans who believe in the furry lifestyle. A group of people who dress in elaborate animal costumes as a means of typically light hearted leisure would mostly consider themselves to be furries. Each furry develops a fursona , a play on persona and the documentray s namesake, and the members have coolectively named their following The Fandom . However, these people have faced aversion by the public based on the media. This negative appearance has forced the community of furries to rally behind Uncle Kage , who may have negative intentions as well. The media that Uncle Kage releases to depict these people is being controlled by him alone, with intent to keep an upstanding reputation. However, this may have backfired and the group s extremists may have created a dichotomy between the average and the over the top. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although occasionally wearing $7000 anthropomorphic animal costumes, they can appear as average citizens. Scenes from AnthroCon, a furry convention in Pittsburgh, are frequently shown. The way that these people are rallying together to celebrate individuality and acceptance displays the major themes of the group. However, these themes have been soiled by the media and views of the few. For example, a specific member of the society, Boomer the Dog, has embarrassed the fandom more than once. His legal attempt to officially change his name to Boomer the Dog and his appearances on Dr. Phil are infamous for portraying furries as delusional and unacceptable. The way that Rodriguez uses the interivews of these individuals is both interesting in a way that catches the attention of the argument, as well as not being disrespectful and insensitive to the furry fandom. This techinique allows for a successful means of addressing both sides of the main ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There is now substantial evidence that human activity is causing global warming because of our large emissions of greenhouse gases. For instance, atmospheric carbon dioxide currently measures at three hundred and ninety seven parts per million, which is the highest it has been for at least the past one million years (National Research Council of the National Academies). Also, scientific data shows that Earth s average surface temperature has increased more than 1.7 Fahrenheit over the past one hundred years (National Research Council of the National Academies). The evidence is unequivocal that our activities are the main culprit to the disruption of the climate system. In 2013, the top four emitters of carbon dioxide totaled to fifty eight percent of entire global emissions (Loiseau). Among these four, China is the largest, accounting for twenty eight percent (Loiseau). The United States accounted for fourteen percent; The EU accounted for ten percent; And India accounted for seven percent (Loiseau). During that time frame there was no internet to rely on transfer of information, no telephone lines to communicate with other health care personnel to bounce ideas off of and there was no social media platforms, such as YouTube, in which medical information can be reviewed. The ability to access information has dramatically changed from then to now. Back then, medical professionals had to rely more on skills and use what they can to arrive to a positive outcome. • 10. The Individual in Judaism and Hinduism Through the Bhagavad Gita and the Book of Job we see the similar ways that different religions affirm that the individual can t have the same level of knowledge as the divine. We also, however, see that while Hinduism offers an explanation for this knowledge disparity, and offers a path of empowerment that allows the individual to strive for the knowledge level of the divine, Judaism simply deems that we are insignificant beings when compared to God, and that we can t ever achieve nearly the same amount of knowledge as God. The Book of Job tells those who consider the bible to be a holy text, namely Jewish and Christian people, the story of Job. His story tells us that we, as individual human beings, are lesser beings than God and can t know as much as God. At the end of the story, after hearing God mention the greatness of his creations, Job finally breaks and admits that he was wrong to question God, as Job, an individual human being, has a limited amount of knowledge compared to God. While God is pleased with this response from the previously dubious Job, he is not happy with Zophar, Eliphaz, and Bildad for claiming to know why God acted in the manner in which he did while they were consoling Job. God relents however, and forgives them after Job prays for them. God is so delighted with Job for withstanding all of the punishments Satan had put forth upon him that he rewarded Job with two times more of everything he had lost, including his children. After all, how does one communicate with another who cannot hear? From the perspective of one who grew up in the hearing world, these cultural norms were anything but normal; yet they have become ingrained, almost second nature. Now these are my norms and are part of my world. My journey into Deaf culture started in elementary school while riding the school bus. Some options include: flashing the lights briefly, stomping on the floor, or simply walking across the room to grab their attention. Another important cultural tidbit, eye contact is incredibly important. To an outsider it can be a bit unnerving, it almost feels like they are staring you down; however, direct eye contact is expected when someone is communicating with you, as this shows that you are fully engaged in the conversation. Breaking eye contact while in a conversation is akin to interrupting and stating that their conversation is not worth your time. Living isolated by a majority of those who live around you, simply because of the mode of communication, can be very difficult. A majority of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community in the United States communicate with a three dimensional language known as American Sign Language, or ASL. ASL is a unique language that differs greatly from English. Not only does ASL differ from English linguistically, it also differs in modality. Instead of articulating phonemes with one s mouth, teeth, tongue, and throat, one articulates ASL with one s hands, fingers, face, and surrounding space. As such, an individual whose primary language is ASL may struggle reading and writing in English, especially in complex situations such as a doctor s appointment. This is often referred to as the Nature vs. Nurture debate. There are two main arguments on this issue. As such, people who have a genetic propensity to intelligence and a highly stimulating infancy will become most intelligent, while those who have a lower genetic propensity to intelligence may still demonstrate high IQ through a highly structured intervention program. This would explain both Ramey s study, as well as the Devlin argument, and hence support the concept that there might be both a genetic and an environmental influence on intelligence. Naturally there are opposing views, from the Nativists that individual s genetics are determinant in regards to behaviour, and that indeed certain behaviour and instincts are in fact largely under genetic control. A prime example of this is the Chomsky s cognitive theory of language. Chomsky s approach to the study of language emphasizes an innate set of linguistic principles shared by all humans known as universal grammar. Contributions Of Leonardo Da Vinci Illegitimately born to a Middle Eastern peasant, Caterina, and a prominent notary of Florence, Messer Piero Fruosino di Antonio da Vinci, was an aspiring painter, sculptor, architect and a scientist. This Italian genius who went by the name Leonardo da Vinci, was born in the city of Florence on April 15, 1452. Da Vinci was said to have spent his early years in Archiano then his later years with his extended family. Though Da Vinci s early life was not well known, it was learnt that at age fifteen (15), his father apprenticed him to Andrea del Verrocchio. Verrocchio was the most prominent artist of the Renaissance period and in the city of Florence at that time. Verrocchio s apprenticeship generated opportunities for a multitalented self taught individual to create some of the most popular paintings and writings of today ; this later led to Leonardo Da Vinci s significant contributions to the High Renaissance period. Leadership Style And Personal Strengths Essay Using Leadership Style and Personal Strengths to Succeed in a Doctoral Program Leadership is an important outcome of the doctor of nursing practice (DNP) program (Zaccagnini White, 2014). Measurement tools are available that identify leadership style (Clark, 2010) and personal talents, called Signature Themes (Gallup, Inc., 2010). When leadership style and personal strengths are identified, they can be maximized to achieve success (Clark, 2010; Gallup, Inc., 2010). It is and is not possible for something not to exist, 2. Something that is there in thought and through senses must exist. He believes that there are two paths one can follow. The path of error, trusting ones sensory inputs, and the path of truth, conclusion through reasoning and logical thought. His idea of change is for something that exists to not exist anymore, something that wasn t is now. To conceptualize this picture a block of stone, a sculptor chisels it into a beautiful piece of art, the statue is still the same piece of rock, only in a different shape. Parmenides thinks that those who follow the path of error would argue that the stone did change, however he believes that their senses are deceiving them. The rock instead ceased to exist, and the beautiful sculpture came into existence. As a result of this belief, change is impossible due to the fact that something that has changed does not exist anymore, instead a new body is created with different properties. • 20. International Trade Is An Effective Stimulation Of... Engaging in international trade is an effective stimulation of economic growth. David Ricardo s principle of comparative advantage argues while nations involved in international trade, a country will become specialised in producing a product that has the lowest relative costs. (Economist, 2015) By focusing on the production onto a limited scope of product or industries, firms or the nation will experience rise in productivity due to higher efficiency in allocation and utilisation of resources. As the process of specialisation will cause reallocation of other less efficient resources, nations, as a result, will import products that are less efficiently produced from other countries. While different nations specialising in different goods and services, a greater variety and cheaper products will become available for consumption, improving the quality and quantity of consumption by all nations. To determine whether developing nations are experiencing disadvantage in the international trade, it requires a careful examination with Porter s Diamond factor endowments. It analysis a nation s competitiveness under four categories: factor endowments, demand condition, related and supporting industries and firm strategy, structure and rivalry. The funding of the service was based upon the license fee and their agreement with parliament, and this was decided when it was felt that advertising could limit the number of programmes they would be able to broadcast. They maintained the view that our responsibility is to carry into the greatest possible number of homes, everything that is best in every department of human knowledge, endeavour, or achievement (cited in Smith, 1998). That the BBC kept a firm degree of independence from the government was always at the forefront of Reith s aims, and the fact that it also gained a reputation for its impartiality meant that it came to be, and to some extent, still is a respected institution throughout the world. Nowadays, the BBC still pride themselves on being free of commercial interests and political bias (2002). During his reign on the BBC throne, Reith came under much criticism on his views of overestimating the mentality of the public, and providing a service that contained the matters that he thought should be most important to society. • 23. Descriptive Essay Volcano Allie Koza Professor Baer English 17 October 2017 Descriptive Essay The word volcano comes from the little island of vulcano in the Mediterranean Sea, these fire fountains can reach hundreds of feet into the sky (Lindop). Early Romans believed this mountain belonged to vulcan, the blacksmith of the gods. Within the last twenty years, a volcanologists have been working hard to learn how to predict eruptions and keep people safe. Ash plumes and steam rose into the bright blue sky as the underground earthquake shook the land and rattled windows all across the eighteen mile town. As the jet circled the island, in view of lovely beaches and emerald water, looming over this lush paradise was the screaming volcano. Volcanos erupt when the pressure inside of them becomes so great that the magma surges up and forces its way out. An exploding volcano can rip apart a mountain in just seconds, when the eruption is over, a landscape is changed forever. The united states is home to more volcanos than any other country except Indonesia, and Japan. The majority of these volcanoes are in Alaska. Until recently, there was no way to predict when a volcano would blow, although volcanoes give off many warning signs before they erupt. Including smaller earthquakes beneath the volcano, slight inflation, or swelling. The rising magma eventually causes the solid rock to break, sending earthquake signals. Most volcanoes give warning signs beginning weeks or months before they blow (Lindop). Lumps of Lava cool into solid rocks as they fly through the sky, forming rounded chunks that can be also known as bombs, while pieces with corners and sharp edges are named blocks. Both bombs and blocks can cause a great deal of damage. As the volcano begins to burst, the sky fills with choking, smoky powder, while it starts raining lava, and rock. The air warmed quicker than when you pour kerosene on a fire, with a sound so loud it circled the earth four times, red hot lava flows down the side of the volcano and magma spews out the top. This is a time where mothers restore muscle tone and connective tissue in the body after the birth of the baby. Although there is a dramatic change during the postpartum period, women s body is nonetheless not fully stored to pre pregnant physiology until about 6 months post delivery (Osailan, 6). At this time, women need to receive special health and social support to prevent problems such as postpartum depression. During this period, culture plays a major role in the way a woman perceives and prepares for her birthing experience. In fact, the notions of birth and postnatal care vary considerably with cultural beliefs and traditional practices. Each culture has its own values, beliefs and practices related to pregnancy and birth (Osailan,1). When he tries to express his sexuality towards her, she brushes him off, which further enforces the idea that the free blacks are over sexualized. The biggest sense of loyalty from Mammy we see is when she tries to protect her master from union soldiers arresting him for being in the Ku Klux Klan. Gus, the Union Solider, seems to be best associated with brute and coon tendencies, which is characterized by his sexuality towards Flora. The union soldiers in general represent the brutal buck character type because they are seen as violent, uncontrollable and sexualized in the film. Gus, also has coon tendencies, however, in the way his character expresses himself. His eyes are very big and full of expression, and seem to be laughed at a lot. He is used as comic relief in addition to his role as an instigator to the Ku Klux Klan. When he comes onto Flora, he is overly sexual and aggressive towards her. He seems to be out of control as soon as the interaction starts, and ends with a chasing scene through the forest. This goes along with the Moonlight and Magnolia theme that white women are the epitome of beauty, and how frail and delicate they seem. Silas Lynch is also depicted as overly aggressive in his pursuit and proposal to Elsie Stoneman. This represents the fear of miscegenation, as well as rape. The skewed view promotes the domination of women through portrayals of white women and black soldiers. The Stoneman housekeeper, Lydia, is portrayed as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. Feed By M. T. Anderson Analysis Today s society is fueled by marketing and consumerism, which is detrimental to our environment. Throughout the novel Feed, M.T Anderson uses a futuristic society as an scathing indictment of our current consumer habits. This is best demonstrated by the use of multiple related themes. Many abrasive marketing techniques used by multinational conglomerates are designed to prey on middle and working class consumers. Thus creating a higher demand for product manufacturing. This higher demand in return increases environmental pressures, due to an unregulated private manufacturing sector. Two relevant themes that relate to each other are Because it is built into things we use every day, marketing is inescapable¨ and Negligent consumerism is destructive to the environment¨. These two themes relate to each throughout novel. With that being said, marketing is widely demonstrated all through our daily lives because of the modern societal use of products that are brought to our attention day in and day out. Whereas abrasive marketing tactics become more prevalent in the average consumer s daily habits. The draconian nature behind marketing is easily forgotten. Behind the sub prime there was another crisis the financial innovation products: CDO s, CDS s, derivatives, futures market, which were directly interlocked with sub prime loans. The problem with them is that there is no physical value behind them and if things go wrong one have to face loss of all the money that have been invested.
